It takes Hazel a second to register that Allie is speaking to them. Well, maybe not to them exactly but they're the only one still left in the locker room after practice. Peering over their shoulder at their teammate, Hazel hesitates before a reply is spilling forth without them realizing, a common habit.

"I think you are. I mean, you're a freshman who made it onto varsity, if we're talking about the soccer part, and you seem pretty popular if we're talking about other things." They pause, trying to wrack their brain for other possibilities for what Allie may have meant.

Oh right, maybe the gaping hole of the rest of the varsity team that has been missing for over a year now after their plane went down, a plane that Allie was supposed to have been on.

Hazel's not quite sure how to bring that up since it seems to be a taboo topic more often than not so they just go back to stuffing their cleats into their bag. "Did someone say something to you?"

I know you probably aren't into FNaF anymore but I thought you'd be interested in knowing that a MASSIVE leak just happened. Basically, in 2023 a group called Fright's Dome got their hands on an old, completely unknown version of the Freddy Files that they dubbed the Talbert Files based on the author and paranormal investigator, Christopher Ryans-Talbert. Scott told them that he didn't necessarily care what they did with it, but he preferred it stay just between the group, and they decided to respect his wishes. This caused drama in the group and someone tried leaking it, but it was covered up until recently where personal DMs were leaked revealing its legit (which is honestly fucked up, those were private and personal conversations).

Basically, this old draft of the lore shows off some pre-FFPS storylines. I think the biggest part is that Henry and Charlotte WEREN'T originally planned to be part of the games, instead replaced by a man named Emmett Tucker and his daughter, Cassidy. Emmett created the Medicore Melodies, with Happy Frog made specifically for Cassidy, but William rejected them so he flipped and left. Cassidy possessed both the Puppet AND Golden Freddy, and the five kids reported was purely an error on investigators who saw Cassidy's ghosts on the cameras.

Other things include ages (in 1985 William was 40, Mike was 17, and Phone Guy was 34), names of the missing kids (Susie Mosteller, Gabriel Gardner, Jeremy Fitzgerald Jr., Fritz Smith Jr.), Phone Guy's name (Steven Callahan), acknowledgement of the SAVETHEM victims (they were teens who broke into Freddy's and was picked off by William), the SL gang becoming cryptids (Scrap Baby and Molten Freddy obviously, but Michael himself was also one known as the St. George Stitchwraith), Fazbear's Fright being made by FE to basically do what the indie games did successfully, Elizabeth's original name (Abaigael), and a journal entry from William Afton himself after the death of his youngest son that dives into his twisted ideals and motivations. There's a good chunk more, but those are just the key stuff. The overview document and some pages are making their way around the internet rn

Home Coming

Part 1

Thinking of Steve Harrington, post season one beat-down and Demogorgon encounter, returning to his house to see the rare sight of his mothers car parked in the driveway.

He only hesitates for a moment before he walks in, spotting his mother at the dining table.

She looked so out of place, unnatural, back ramrod straight and legs crossed at the knee in a chair she’d picked out herself but had never broken in.

She was pretending to read her crisp, - unopened-, copy of Jane Eyre, the spine creaking too loudly with every page turn.

Her expression was pinched in the way it got when she had something to say, some reprimand she was doing her best to puzzle through, words rearranging for maximum devastation upon delivery.

That was her specialty, after all. Words of harsh judgment disguised as concern.

She finally glanced up when he’d been staring for long enough, smoothing her immaculately styled hair down with freshly manicured nails as she fixed him with a look that made him wish he’d stayed at the hospital.

“Where’s dad?” he tried for casual, apparently missing by a mile.

“Steven,” she spoke cooly, rose painted lips downturned, blue eyes boring into him like tent spikes.

He straightened.

“Your father received a call from Officer Callahan. Would you care to explain?”

Steve tried to stay still; tried not to shift or shuffle nervously on his feet.

He knew his mother hated that.

“I…” he cleared his throat, still scratchy from screaming, though it’d been hours since the last time he had.

He squared his shoulders and took a deep breath.

This was his mother, after all, not an interdimensional monster.

“It was my fault.”

One perfectly plucked eyebrow rose, the small simple gesture communicating more than words ever could.

It was a clear and unarguable “go on”.

So he did.

He told almost the full story; spotting Nancy with Jonathan, Tommy’s little art piece on the cinema marquee, the fight.

He stopped at arriving to the Byers’ place to apologise, the words catching in his throat like Laffy Taffy in molars as she raised a hand, her lips pressed into a thin pale line.

The displeasure roiled off of her in waves.

“So,” she started, pulling the ribbon attached to the spine of the book in between the crisp, too-white pages to hold her place, though he was absolutely certain she wouldn’t be picking it up again.

She glanced up at him, large blue eyes scanning his face, flitting over the evidence of his fight.

He could fool himself into believing she was concerned, worried, even.

But then she’d spoken again, and all those thoughts were undoubtedly dashed.

“You‘ll take full responsibility for this?”

Steve’s brow furrowed in confusion, and he flinched as a newly formed scab pulled at the throbbing skin above his eye, threatening to bleed once more.

“I… what?”

His mother huffed, adjusting the collar of her soft pink blouse, smoothing out invisible wrinkles.

“The marquee, Steven. Dean Hughs said it was stained and that he expected money for a new one.”

Steve’s stomach dropped.

“Oh…” he let out weakly, ignoring the burn of his scraped up knuckles as he shoved his hands in his pockets, the ache in his head that’d been persistent since Jonathan had clocked him, the heat of tears prickling behind his eyes, threatening to spill.

“Since you admit to your part in it, we’ll be taking the money from your allowance. The Hagan’s are doing the same with Tommy.”

Steve found himself nodding, though it felt like his head was underwater.

“I expect you to apologise to your father when he gets home,” she continued with that same cold and impersonal tone he’d grown to expect.

To dread.

“You have no idea how embarrassing it was to be the last to find out about your little brush with vandalism. I mean, really Steven? We leave for a month, and you’re already falling into delinquency? Next we hear you’ve been hanging around the trailer park with the rest of the flea bitten trash, like the Curtis’s, or, Heaven forbid, that Munson boy-“

Steve tuned out his mother, his shoulders sagging, his heart sinking, his eyes stinging.

She hadn’t even asked him if he was ok.

She hadn’t said a word about the blood that stained his shirt, the bruises and cuts pounded into his flesh, the unsteadiness of his hands.

She didn’t seem to notice the nervous set of his shoulders, the bags under his eyes, the brand new terror etched into his very being.

She didn’t care.

And he should’ve known, really.

After a lifetime of criticism, of admonition instead of praise, of:

“Steven, stop ruining your brand new pants!”

Instead of

“Great job on that home run!”

Of

“You can do better.”

Instead of

“Thank you for trying.”

He wanted to run.

He had nowhere to go, so he stayed and waited out his mothers rant with his head bowed and his eyes damp.

When she had finally finished, she sat back in the chair and sighed as if her speech had taken it out of her; as if she were the one who was hurting.

She let her eyes sweep over him once more, her regal nose scrunching in distaste at his less than perfect appearance.

“Get cleaned up and throw away those ruined clothes. And if I see any stains in my couch or on my hardwood, you’ll be grounded for a week.”

With that, she waved her hand to dismiss him and turned back to her book, not opening it, just staring at its unblemished cover with a complete lack of interest.

A painfully familiar expression.

Steve did as he was told.

He grabbed the first aid kit, a bit understocked from the time he’d injured himself at basketball practice two months prior, and did what he could to treat his own wounds.

After, he sat alone in his bedroom, lights on, window open, spiked bat resting at his bedside within reach.

He pinched at the bridge of his nose; tried not to cry.

Harringtons didn’t cry.

He thought about the Byers; about Ms. Byers allowing the entire town to think she’d gone insane in her efforts to recover her son.

He thought about Jonathan, and how goddamn lucky he was to have a mom like that.

One who didn’t care about her reputation, her spotless image. One who loved wholeheartedly and unselfishly.

One who would see his pain and embrace him, wipe away his tears and ask if he was alright.

He thought of Nancy.

Maybe he could call her?

He glanced to the clock radio on his nightstand.

03:30 AM.

It was no good.

He didn’t fall asleep that night, every creak of a floorboard or shift in the air sending him into high alert.

He wrapped himself in his blanket, one hand out and resting on the handle of his bat, and thought:

“At least I’m not alone.”

The other day I read through all your officer noodle/ uncle Phil Callahan au posts and god!!!! How that would change (but also not!) the Dynamic S1 & S2 especially. Like Steve is the only kid without any parent on screen who is In His Corner. He’d finally have an Adult who gives a shit and, while he may not Like Steve, loves him & would be able to say ‘why is this teen getting the shit kicked out of him every 6 months’ and make sure he’s actually getting medical treatment every time he gets his shit rocked lol. Also the angst potential of Callahan & his mom (Steve’s grandma) realizing his sister abandoned them when she found a rich husband/ family but now she’s abandoning her own kid like she did them and like, ‘fuck is he my responsibility now if she’s not even in the country??’ Idk, would love to hear if you (or anyone else!) have any more Thoughts abt it!

I have thoughts! This is kinda long.

Phil was never particularly close with his sister, but the six-year age gap between them never felt wider than it did when he saw his nephew for the very first time. He was twelve, gangly and awkward, and his legs hurt all the time from growing, but he didn’t feel like an uncle.

Everybody said that he was an uncle now, but Uncle was a grown-up word and Phil was just a kid. He thinks that Mom is a grown-up word too and that just because Angie was eighteen and married, that it didn’t make her an adult.

When he saw her, tired and exhausted, holding her little bundle of baby like she didn’t quite know what to do with it… it felt like she was just playing pretend. He didn’t think that she should be having a baby or that she should be married to twenty-five year old Richard Harrington no matter how good his job was, but that was what happened.

Phil was technically the first man – boy – to hold little baby Steven because Richard had stepped out to make a call and didn’t come back until an hour after Steve was born. He had lipstick on his collar, wasn’t particularly interested in the baby, and Phil was left with this sinking feeling that they were all going to fail this kid.

Phil graduated from high school, tried college, dropped out, joined the police force, and that feeling remained there. It never really went away – not when Angie stopped coming around for holidays, not when they went five years without hearing from her, and not when he found out that she left her ten year old home alone while she followed her husband out of the country.

Phil’s dad died when he was young and he didn’t really remember much about the man, but he knew that he must have been a fierce man because that fierceness lives inside of Angie, or maybe it was just something that Richard Harrington put there. Their mother was not fierce. She was timid and kind, and she didn’t put up a fight when Angie came to collect her child after a week because she didn’t know how.

Angie said a lot of hateful words that day – mostly to Phil – and Richard threatened worse, but Steve didn’t cry when he was dragged away even though he looked like he wanted to. Phil was put on a week’s suspension after Richard threatened to sue the police department for harassment, and life went on.

Phil always pictured a life where he left Hawkins but it never came to fruition. He never moved out of his mother’s house. He made plans to but they fell through when her health took a turn. He stayed. He slept in the same bed that he had his whole life, he continued his work at the police department under Hopper, made a life-long friend out Calvin Powell, and he did not check in on his nephew. Though maybe he should have.

Phil’s interactions with Steve were few and far between and each one filled with more disdain and attitude than the one before. He saw him running out of parties that the police broke up, grinning through the window of his daddy’s car when he was pulled over for speeding, and he saw him beaten halfway to hell sitting in the waiting room after Will Byers was found.

“Did a nurse look you over?” Phil asked, crouching down to catch Steve’s eyes when it was just the two of them and a sleeping Ted Wheeler left in the waiting room. Steve squinted at him and shrugged, but otherwise didn’t respond. “You could have a concussion – you probably do.”

“I deserved it.”

“Yeah, I know,” Phil said because he probably did. He put his hand on Steve’s knee to lift himself back up but stopped, “God, you’re shaking like a leaf. Are you-“

“Just shut up, okay?” Steve snapped at him. He looked angry and panicked for a second, and Phil was left with that sinking feeling of failure again. “I’m sorry. I’m just – I’m sorry. Just – I’m tired.”

Callahan went to get Steve a cup a water and came back to an empty chair. Steve cleaned up his act after that and then Billy Hargrove happened. Steve was in the hospital with a concussion, cracked ribs, and three broken fingers, and neither Angie nor Richard answered the goddamn phone. Fall passed into winter, spring, summer, and Hopper died.

Hopper was dead and the mall was in flames, and the only goddamn thing that Callahan can see is his nephew beaten half to hell again. Steve’s on a stretcher with a shell-shocked look, and when Callahan approached, Steve startled so violently that it looked like everything hurt.

He asked what happened and Steve told him with a choked voice that Hopper was, uh. That Hopper was gone. And Phil asked if Steve was okay and he said in barely a whisper, “No.”

Phil took Steve home that night. He made up the bed in Angie’s old room for his nephew and the Robin girl that he insisted had to stay with him, and he knows that he’s missed a lot – a lifetime – but he vows to himself that nothing else was going to happen to this kid anymore.

He doesn’t pick up the phone this time.

okay friends, its time for another reading poll! i finished The Poisonwood Bible and had a really profound experience following the threads from the first time I read it to now and even found some traces of it in decisions i made when writing AASOAF (done subconsciously bc i never really set out with that book in mind as an inspiration for the series) anyway it was really cool and i cried again like i did the first time 😭 fun fact, that was the first book that ever made me cry! anyways POLL
