The Jeep
Eli’s sixteen and Stiles wants to give him the Jeep, Derek might need some persuading.
[AO3]
Tumblr media
“I’m just saying—” Stiles said, sitting back against the velvet covered bedhead. “He’s sixteen now, he’s got his licence, he’s going to need a car.”
“Then we’ll get him a car,” Derek replied from the ensuite.
“Why not just give him the Jeep?” Stiles pressed.
Derek peered his head around the corner of the doorframe. “Because that thing is held together by duct tape and prayers.”
“Then we’ll get it fixed up,” Stiles suggested.
“Or we just get him a new car,” Derek countered, stepping out of the ensuite. He turned the light off behind him and climbed into bed beside Stiles. “One with better safety ratings, GPS, Bluetooth, and all that. A car that’s not going to break down or fall to pieces every time he reverses out of the driveway.”
“A car that crumples like a paper ball at the smallest dent? I mean, I hit Jackson with that Jeep and it barely made a dent.”
Derek huffed out a breath, struggling to smother his laughter and trying to keep a serious face.
“We’ve been through a lot, and – for better or worse – that Jeep has survived everything we have,” Stiles continued. “It may not have Bluetooth or GPS, but it still works after all these years.”
Derek sighed.
He had to admit: Stiles had a point. That Jeep, despite all the damage and duct tape, had held together over decades.
But there was something else; something Stiles wasn’t saying.
Derek leant back against the pillows, turning his head to look at Stiles.
“And…?” he prompted.
“It’s going to sound stupid,” Stiles started slowly, “but it was my mum’s car. My dad gave it to me as a way of holding onto her. I always felt like… it felt like she was watching over me. And as silly as it sounds, the thought that she’d be watching over Eli gives me some comfort.”
Derek reached over and took Stiles’ hand in his. He laced their fingers together and gave Stiles’ hand a gentle squeeze.
Stiles blinked back the glistening tears that welled in his eyes.
Derek brushed the ball of his thumb over the back of Stiles’ hand.
“Okay,” he relented. “You can give him the Jeep.”
Stiles straightened, looking at Derek with a mix of shock and joy.
“On one condition,” Derek added quickly. “We get a complete refit: new engine, brakes, airbags, full service—all of it. And we’re taking the police scanner out.”
“You can replace it with one of those fancy radios with Bluetooth and GPS,” Stiles offered, leaning his head against Derek’s shoulder.
A small smile turned up the corners of Derek’s lips.
“Deal,” he whispered, turning his head and pressing a soft kiss to the crown of Stiles’ head.
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Eli?” Derek called out from where he stood by the front door.
He heard the footsteps on the wooden floorboards as Eli emerged from his room. “Yeah?”
“You got a minute?” Derek asked.
“Am I in trouble?” he asked as he made his way down the stairs and over to his dad’s side.
“Should you be?” Derek asked as he held the front door open, letting his son step out onto the front porch where Stiles stood waiting for them.
He paused for a moment, his eyes darting about as he searched his memories for anything he might have done that would get him in trouble.
“No,” he answered, but there was an upward infliction at the end of the word that made it sound like a question rather than a statement.
“You’re not in trouble,” Stiles reassured him.
“So, what’s up?” Eli asked.
“Well,” Stiles started. “You’re sixteen now and you have your license, and since your dad and I need the cars all the time—”
“And since you’ve proven you can be responsible and trustworthy,” Derek added.
“—we’re giving you a car.”
Eli’s eyes opened wide, his jaw hanging open. “Seriously?”
Derek nodded.
Stiles dug into his pocket and pulled out the key, holding it out in front of him for Eli to take.
Eli recognised the key.
He stared at it in stunned silence.
When he found his voice again, his words were barely a whisper.
“The Jeep?” His voice broke around the word, his eyes glistening with tears of joy as he looked from the key to his dads’ faces. “You’re giving me the Jeep?”
“It’s all yours,” Stiles told him.
Eli reached out and look the key from his dad.
“It’s been fully serviced,” Derek told him. “It has a new engine and everything.”
Eli glanced over his shoulder at the dusty-blue Jeep. “Can I…?”
Stiles nodded.
He leapt off the porch and bounded over to the Jeep, pulling open the driver’s side door and sliding into the seat. He didn’t turn it on; he just sat in the driver’s seat, bouncing up and down slightly with uncontainable happiness. He couldn’t help but laugh with excitement as he let his hands grip the soft, worn leather of the steering wheel.
Stiles and Derek stepped over to the car.
Eli bolted upright, his eyes widening as he remembered something.
“Does it still have the—?” His words died off as he answered his own question: he pulled down the sun visor to see the photo of Stiles wrapped in Claudia’s arms. He was four – maybe five – years old in the photo, the sun shining on their faces as they both looked at the camera, caught half way between smiling and laughing. He carefully pulled the photo out from where it was held in place by elastic, holding it in his hands as he looked at it fondly.
He sniffed and blinked back tears, trying to hide his face from his parents as he turned to hand the photo to Stiles.
Stiles shook his head, gently pushing Eli’s hand back. “That’s for you.”
Eli looked at him, his brow furrowed slightly with confusion.
“She’s always watching over you,” Stiles said quietly.
Eli didn’t say anything. Tears fell from Eli’s eyes, trailing down his cheeks as he looked down at the photo again. He offered his dad a shaky smile as he slotted the photo back into its place. He looked at his grandmother’s face one more time before carefully and lovingly putting the sun visor back up.
He wiped away his tears with the sleeve of his jacket. “Thanks, Dad.”
Stiles offered him a kind smile.
“There’s an emergency kit in the back,” Derek told him. “First aid kit, blanket, bottled water, snacks, a change of clothes, and a few other things. And, most importantly…” He stepped around the hood of the Jeep and opened the passenger side door. He reached into the glove box, pulled something out, and held it up.
The moment Eli and Stiles saw it, they both burst into laughter.
A brand new roll of duct tape.

You sleep like you’re trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records, and your eating habits are bizarre! You vomit around the clock and for some reason only the tea your mother used when she was pregnant will get your stomach to settle down for any length of time. Is there something you aren’t telling me? Can werewolves get guys pregnant? I’ve noticed how you look at that Hale kid-” Stiles meeps and flails, sloshing tea down his front. Luckily it’s not scalding anymore, but still hot, so he jumps up and wrenches his shirt off. “God, dad, no! Guys can’t get pregnant, that’s ridiculous, it’s like...” “Like werewolves being real?” his dad questions, deadpan.

SPECIAL FIC RECS:
1. The Soul Knows What the Heart Wants by isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella)
163K Words // Chapters: 9/9 // Hits: 74K // COMPLETED
//MATURE//
“Holy—shit,” Stiles breathed, Bacon stopping in what he was doing, still staring at him intently, as if begging him to understand, for someone to finally understand. Stiles felt like he’d been electrocuted and he leapt out of his chair, kneeling in front of Bacon and grabbing at his furry face. “Holy shit! Oh my God, are you—wait, holy—you’re not fucking with me, right?!” Bacon let out two quick barks, which Stiles chose to interpret as ‘no.’ “Oh my God, are you a real person in there?!” Stiles shouted in the wolf’s face, staring him right in the eye. He was still holding the wolf’s head with both hands, but Bacon dipped his muzzle in confirmation and Stiles officially lost his mind. “Oh my God!” he shouted again, releasing Bacon to clutch at his own hair. “Oh my God! Dude, for real?! You’re—holy shit! Holy shit!” He didn’t know how to react to this news. He had no fucking idea how to react. This was a person?! But how?! How was this a person?! People didn’t just turn into wolves!
2. Whisper Through the Din by HyperLittleNori (Shiguresan)
38K Words // Chapters: 4/4 // Hits: 11K // COMPLETED
//EXPLICIT//
He wasn’t good at knowing the best thing to say, knowing how to comfort someone. He never had been. That had always been his mom or Laura. He thought of them then, of his mom’s warm eyes and Laura’s thoughtful expression. He remembered that night she’d tucked him into the Camaro, smoke still clinging to their hair and clothes, remembered what she’d said and he thought those words would stick with him until the day he died. He watched Stiles for a long heartbeat; his own head slightly cocked as he listened to Stiles’s heart simmer back from the enraged crescendo it’d worked itself into. When it settled back to something sad and steady, like the vibration on a string instrument, Derek offered an uncertain echo of Laura’s words. “We’ll work this out, Stiles.”
3. This isn’t the OK!Cupid I thought I was signing up for by changez
21K Words // Chapters: 12/12 // Hits: 8K // COMPLETED
//MATURE//
Stiles and Scott are enjoying their relatively quiet life on the East Coast, but everything is turned upside down by the appearance of a very familiar black wolf stalking the nearby woods. A lone hunter forces Derek to make a last second decision to give Stiles the bite to save his life, but the circumstances bring a seemingly fairytale legend to reality. Derek feels remorse for what he’s done to Stiles, but before he can make amends, he’s captured. Stiles will have to come to terms with more than just the bite before it’s too late.

let me take care of you
stiles x derek || rated: t || wc: 1.3k
Stiles couldn’t do anything but stare at the alpha werewolf as he rambled while unloading the aforementioned supplies from the grocery bag to Stiles’ counter.
Nothing Stiles was seeing made sense.
Why was Derek here, in his apartment, with cold medicine and fucking soup?
Or, the one where Derek comes over to take care of a sick Stiles. They talk about their moms and confess some feelings. It's all very soft.

while everyone is sad and in need of non-terrible sterek content, here's a minor headcanon I'm probably never going to get around to using in anything:
derek is a massive halo nerd, but hates all video games basically universally. he picked up one of the novels because he knows stiles likes the games, and he wanted to be able to contribute during stiles's periodic gamer info-dumps, but then got weirdly invested in the lore and now knows way more about the universe than any reasonable person should
stiles thinks this is adorable, obviously, but also hilarious, and spends a lot of times scheming ways to trick their friends into accidentally saying something that will activate derek's halo-heresy senses and trigger an angry rant. his crowning achievement was getting scott to read the drill 'masterchief's suit jacks him off' tweet out loud verbatim in derek's presence. neither of them have forgiven him for it, and he does not care because it was the funniest shit he's ever seen.
he's also started leaving 40k novels lying around derek's apartment. to date he has not taken the bait, but they both know it's only a matter of time before he caves.

For the prompt post: “Are you sure about this?”
I don't know if you wanted a requested pairing, but you write three of my favs so.. dealer's choice.
The words, ‘Are you sure about this?’ still ring heavily in Stiles’ ears. They’re shortly followed by an eye roll from a very gruff-looking Alpha and, ‘Yes, Stiles, I’m sure. Now get out there, you got this.’
He, in fact, did not have it.
It being the rough and tumble he had to endure whilst training with the wolves. Scott may have pulled his punches and linebacker tackles, but he was still a solid mass of supernatural vigor and after two, count them, two pile drives to the gut, Derek finally heeded the standard rule of tap-outs and let Stiles sit out the next few rounds.
He was busy cleaning up a bloody nose in the bathroom when Derek came up behind him a few minutes later. He could hear the rest of the pups still training outside through the small open window above the shower stall. It was a nice day outside, the sun high in the sky, a chill breeze whirling through the trees.
Stiles would have rather spent it inside, but he’d been dragged out of the house with the promise of coffee and breakfast foods. He had no idea he’d be duped into training with the pack on Derek’s old family land afterward.
He’d rebuilt the house one summer, after selling the loft and purchasing the land back. Stiles had helped when he could, but most of the time he’d defer to the pack who had the super strength and fortitude to build such a big estate.
This bathroom was on the first floor and mainly used for guests, but it was one of five sprinkled around the large house, usually between rooms save for the master bath in Derek’s room.
Stiles had never been inside that one.
“Did you know that tilting your head back during a nosebleed doesn’t really stop the bleeding?” Stiles asked amidst shoving tissues up his nostrils. Most of the flow had stopped by now but the sink looked like a massacre had occurred in it.
Derek leaned against the door frame, tucking one arm under the other. He’d decided to wear a gray muscle shirt today and Stiles had to stop himself from staring too long on many occasions. He couldn’t help but look now as he stared at Derek through the mirror, though.
“Nope,” Derek shrugged.
“Right,” Stiles nodded, rolling his eyes and regretting it a second later when it made his nose hurt. “I forgot, you magically heal within seconds. Do you even get nosebleeds?”
“Occasionally,” Derek gruffed.
Stiles had to resist the urge to roll his eyes again. “Cool, so-” He turned around, leaning back against the edge of the sink. “What’s up? Shouldn’t you be watching them?”
Derek glanced toward the open window and back again to Stiles. “Just checking up on you.”
“Well, I’m just dandy, big guy. Swell, even.” He shifted his weight, leaning back on the sink with his hands.
“Stiles-”
“Peachy keen.”
Derek huffed a sigh through his nose, clearly frustrated. But Stiles was frustrated too and he couldn’t understand why he had to do things like this when he clearly wouldn’t ever be able to match their level.
“Would you just-”
“I don’t see the poin-”
They spoke at the same time and Stiles would have continued on with the rant he’d been preparing the moment he set foot inside the house had Derek not stepped into the bathroom and derailed any present thought from his mind. “Shut up for a moment and let me talk,” Derek grumbled, a low growl forming in his throat.
Stiles wasn’t even sure how to respond to that, so he stood, quiet, waiting, and ready to listen to whatever drabble Derek might have to say about ‘pack dynamics’ and ‘how everyone should pull their weight’.
“You could get seriously hurt,” Derek said into the silence between them. “I’m trying to protect you.”
Stiles hadn’t been expecting that. “I’m sorry, what?” He’d set himself up to listen to the rantings and ravings of a frustrated Alpha and his wayward human, not the quiet concern he could just barely hear in Derek’s voice.
Derek sighed again and took another cautious step toward Stiles. He couldn’t back up anymore or he’d risk falling into the sink and he was pretty sure the back of his pants was already ruined by any of the blood spatter. “You need to be able to protect yourself. I - We won’t always be there to watch out for you.”
He knew what Derek was trying to get across but arguing was second nature to Stiles. The urge to question and pester was just as a part of him as the skin on his bones. “I don’t need you guys to watch out for me.”
Something flashed across Derek’s face and for a moment, Stiles thought he saw something akin to disappointment flare in his eyes. Stiles swallowed past a lump forming in his throat because he never wanted to disappoint Derek. It was just difficult to do what he wanted.
“You’re right.” And just like that, Derek was shutting down. Stiles could see it, feel it, and knew he didn’t need heightened senses to realize that the disappointment Derek was feeling wasn’t for him. It was for Derek. He’d spoken up and said something on his mind. Showed a sliver of vulnerability and Stiles had cut it off at the quick.
He hadn’t meant to, he just wished everyone would just stop worrying about him. He didn’t deserve it.
Derek turned to leave and Stiles did something stupid. He reached out, pushing himself off the edge of the sink, and grabbed at Derek’s arm to get him to stop. It was easy enough. Now all he had to do was speak.
“I’m sorry,” Stiles sighed. “I’m just - upset. I mean, you can’t mess with the money-maker,” He smirked, pointing at his face and trying to lighten the mood. Derek turned around but he didn’t exactly look all that amused. Stiles’ smirk fell and suddenly he realized just how close they were now, how warm Derek’s arm was underneath the palm of his hand. He released his hold as if burned to touch the wolf and sighed again. “Sorry, I-”
Derek wasn’t going far though, nor did he look offended by Stiles’ abrupt retreat. He towered over Stiles, took a brave step toward him, and looked down at him a moment before he reached out to grip his tiny shoulders in massive, warm hands.
That lump in Stiles’ throat was growing, along with the rising levels of embarrassment mixed with anxiety that was normally at a high but now felt like they were skyrocketing up and out into the room.
“We - I can’t always be there to fight with you. I need to know that you’ll be okay when I’m not.”
Suddenly training wasn’t that difficult of a request anymore. He could do it. He’d endured worse over the past few years, right? Sure, he’d end up with some bruises, maybe a broken bone here and there, but looking up at Derek right now made all those impending dooms feel like they were tiny and insignificant.
Stiles sighed. His shoulders, along with Derek’s hands, slumped a little. “Just give me a minute and I’ll be back out there.”
“Are you sure about this?” Derek asked, a small smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. It was the kind of smirk Stiles wanted to eat up, but that was a hill to climb for another day.
Huffing a chuckle, Stiles offered up a smile instead, slapping a hand down on one of Derek’s shoulders.
“Yeah, we got this.”
Thanks for the prompt! It’s been a bit since I’ve done much Sterek so I went with them for a light, fluff piece :3

Stiles: I KNOW you’re not delulu enough to think you’re smarter than my husband is. *snarls*
Scott: I KNOW I’m smarter! If not, I couldn’t have become True Alpha. Deaton said so.
Derek: *sighs in exasperation*
Stiles: Scott, the only “big” word you know is ephemeral and you had to study it for a week.
Scott: Yeah, well… I have claws.
Stiles, looking unimpressed: You know what? Final straw, McCall. Take yourself and that room temperature IQ of yours out of our home. Oh, and don’t come back.
Derek: Thank you for defending me, baby. I’ve tried for a year with him.
Stiles: *begins a fluent convo in Greek with Derek while flipping off Scott* Pánta agápi mou. (Always my love)
Isaac watching amused: Alithinó álfa kólo mou! (True Alpha my ass!)
Stiles, cooing: Aaww pup, you’re doing so well with lessons!
Isaac: *blushing* Thanks Mom.

Derek is doing push-ups and Stiles is lying under him so he's more motivated to stay up on his arms and keep going and sometimes when Derek goes down he gets a peck on the lips (and then Derek gets tired and collapses heavily on top of Stiles, smushing him while Stiles flails).

“I need to talk to you and not as your friend.”
Stiles and Derek are engaged, but Cora has something to talk to Stiles about first, and not as his friend. [AO3]
Tumblr media
Cora, Derek and Stiles sat in the living room, Cora and Stiles at opposite ends of the couch with Derek wedge between them.
They’d made it a tradition that they spent Sundays together, unless - of course - there was an emergency. Most Sundays they’d go for a walk through the reserve, watch movies together, or play the world’s most competitive games of Mario Kart.
Today, they were playing a few multiplayer games get Stiles had found for them.
In between games, Derek set his controller down.
“I’m going to get a drink,” he announced as he stood up. “Anyone want anything?”
“Don’t say ‘that cake’,” Cora growled at Stiles who was openly ogling his fiancé’s ass.
Stiles smirked, chuckling slightly. “Dr Pepper for me please.”
Derek turned to Cora, arching a brow and waiting for her request.
“Same,” Cora added. “Thanks.”
“Two Dr Peppers coming up,” Derek said as he skirted around the coffee table in the middle of the living room and out the door.
Once she was sure her brother was out of earshot, Cora scooted across the couch towards Stiles. She turned towards him and - rather abruptly - said, “I need to talk to you and not as your friend.” Stiles’ eyes widened with excitement. A small - joking - gasp escaped his lips. “We're friends?”
“Yes,” Cora replied, regretting it as she said it, “but if you tell anyone, I will deny it.”
Stiles nodded, expecting as much. “Okay. Will we still be friends after this conversation?”
“Yes, but I'm starting to reconsider my options.” Cora narrowed her eyes at him, a look of exasperation settling in to the shadows and creases of her face. “That’s beside the point! What I have to say now, I say as Derek's sister, not as your friend.”
“Okay...” Stiles replied, hesitantly.
Cora drew in a deep breath, calming herself.
“You two are getting married, and I'm happy for both of you,” she started, but her voice quickly took a dark turn, deepening to a threatening tone as her eyes pierced him, “but if you ever hurt my brother, if you ever break his heart or make him cry, I will hunt you down and kill you, got it?”
Stiles swallowed hard and nodded. “Got it.”
Cora’s glare softened as she sat back, relaxed. “Okay.”
“Are you back to talking to me as a friend again?” Stiles asked.
Cora fought the urge to roll her eyes. “Yeah.”
A spark of mischief lit Stiles’ eyes. “Dude, you won't believe what Derek's sister just said to me!”
Cora tried - and failed - not to laugh, letting out a short snort as she dipped her head to hide the smirk that turned up the corners of her lips.

There's a face hovering above him, with a shock of black hair, and although Stiles is having problems focusing, the person looks good. Insanely, inhumanly good.

Oh, and he definitely didn't expect werewolves.
6. On my Way by Gia279

Huge black paws smacked the window, followed by a fuzzy face smooshing up against it. He scrambled over the gear shift, tipping into the passenger seat. Bear, he thought hysterically. It had to be a bear, a freaking bear. A big pink tongue rolled out, lips pulling back as the creature panted.

When his best friend’s son barrels into the kitchen only dressed in a pair of skintight jeans, lean but defined torso on display, Derek knows he’s truly and utterly fucked.
