Death Dorm (The Dorm That Dripped Blood, 1982)
"I'm not gonna hurt you! I love you! I'm not gonna hurt you like all the others. The others - the others! Do you wanna see the others, huh?"

Ten ways no way home could’ve less crap.
Peter B Parker and Miles Morales being the other world Spider-Men instead of Nick Carraway and Desmond Doss. Because I like the cartoon Spider-Men more.
Not killing May off. Like I said. It was depressing and unnecessary.
Peter Parker getting a minimum 10% inheritance from Tony Stark and a job at Stark Industries straight out of high school. It’s what he deserved.
The public finding out Quentin Beck framed Peter for his murder.
Them pulling a Man Of Steel and having Peter kill Norman when it’s clear that the bastard will never stop his tirade. It can be a sad moment. Just as long as Norman died.
May giving the Dumbass Motherfucker hell for not explain the spell to Peter before he started it. I wanted him to cower in his ammonia scented boots.
Jameson being revealed as a conspiracy hack and dying in a moment of comedy.
Pepper solving everything in a cameo appearance.
Peter ACTUALLY reintroducing himself to Michelle and Ned.
Peter ending the movie rich and living in an EXTREMELY fancy, Stark Industries, deluxe with a capital D, penthouse with his girlfriend, his best friend and his aunt. Which is what he deserved to have in the first fucking place.

Indigenous People's Day
DR. HENRIETTA MANN Cheyenne
On this Indigenous Peoples' Day, we are featuring Matika Wilbur’s recent publication Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America, published by Ten Speed Press in 2023. Wilbur (b. 1984) is a visual storyteller and member of the Swinomish and Tulalip peoples of coastal Washington. She holds a degree from the Brooks Institute of Photography alongside a teaching certificate that has shaped her style of educating through narrative portraits.
Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America, a book born from a documentary project of the same name, resolves to share contemporary Native issues and culture. In 2012 Wilbur set out from Seattle to visit and photograph all 562 plus Native American sovereign territories in the United States.
Wilbur’s engagement with the communities she visited resulted in the creation of hundreds of dynamic portraits and documentation of conversations about “tribal sovereignty, self-determination, wellness, recovery from historical trauma, decolonization of the mind, and revitalization of culture.” She refers to her portraiture approach as “an indigenous photography method” that includes several hours and sometimes days of interaction with the participants, an exchange of energy and gifts, and asking sitters to choose their portrait location. The outcome is a stunning collection of Native narratives and portraits.

We acknowledge that in Milwaukee we live and work on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, and Menominee homelands along the southwest shores of Michigami, part of North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes, where the Milwaukee, Menominee, and Kinnickinnic rivers meet and the people of Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida, and Mohican nations remain present.

Midnight Pals: Final Girl
Stephen Graham Jones: Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this the tale of the girl who’s obsessed with slashers Jones: there’s this girl who just constantly talks about slashers Barker: oh that sounds really annoying Jones: Barker: like that sounds SO annoying
Jones: so one day she thinks she might be in the middle of her own slasher movie Jones: and she thinks oh shit this rules Jones: people are just gonna get murdered left and right Jones: this fucking rocks
King: so why’s she think she’s in a slasher movie? is there a killer on the loose? Jones: oh it’s cuz this hot virginal girl moves into town King: King: wait so not because anyone gets murdered? Jones: no just cuz this hot girl moves in Jones: i mean that’s usually the first indication that a slasher is around right? King: to be honest, it’s not usually the first thing I’d think of Poe: yeah that could indicate a lot of different things
Jones: so this hot but very pure girl moves into town King: and somehow that makes the slasher-obsessed girl think that she’s in a slasher movie come to life? King: but why would tha- Joss Whedon: [shrieking] SHE’S THE FINAL GIRL!!! Whedon: LET ME TELL THE STORY! Whedon: I KNOW ALL THE TROPES!
Jones: see, this girl knows the rules of a slasher movie Jones: so she knows how to- Joss Whedon: OH! OH!!! Whedon: OH!!!!!! Whedon: PICK ME!! PICK ME!! I have thoughts on this!! Jones: Jones: no Whedon: b-b-b Whedon: [weakly] b-but the tropes Whedon: [weakly] i-i need the tropes to live Whedon: [weakly] p-please Whedon: [weakly] the tropes Whedon: [pathetic cough]
Jones: also in the midst of this a whole herd of elk mysteriously dies Jones: possibly from overexertion during a pick up basketball game King: Poe: Jones: It could happen
Jones: so this girl sees some classmates going to a party Jones: so she puts on her michael myers mask and kind of stalks around in the background Jones: as you do
Jones: there’s a summer camp that was once the site of a slasher-type massacre. It was on the other side of the lake, up the road with the gas station, you know, the one old man McGee ran? He used to sell sodas in cans, not with the pop tops. With the pull tabs. They don’t make those anymore, you can’t even get them. King: so about that massacre Jones: this is what we call local color
Jones: so i had to take the ferry over to terra nova. so i tied an onion to my belt, as was the style at the time. we didn’t have white onions on account of the war Koontz: [crying] when are we gonna get to the massacre

i’m a bookseller so let’s analyze the books that asoiaf characters would probably be into in my expert opinion
sansa: easy answer, mass-market bodice rippers. true answer, horror. she is a vc andrews girly but she hates stephen king. also she probably read a bunch of colleen hoover at a very formative age and it fucked up her idea of healthy relationships.
jon: manga. i do not know jack or shit about manga but i do know he’d probably like that berserk one or whatever the fuck it’s called. he’s emo. nobody understands him. you get it. so on and so forth.
theon: he doesn’t read but he does go back into the kids department and stick gum in the pages of the i survived books. sometimes if he’s feeling really bold he’ll put his number in between the pages of novels that he thinks are for smart people. his concept of high lit is not very developed so it’s sort of a toss-up as to the books he does this to. they’ve found his number in the brothers karamazov and a taylor jenkins reid novel on the same day.
dany: ya dystopia. you KNOW she would have been so into the maze runner and divergent. somebody let this child have a hunger games phase dear lord.
arya: her idol growing up was junie b jones. she was obsessed with the boxcar children and when she was 7 she tried to run away but to her extreme dismay she couldn’t find a boxcar so she settled for an underpass frequented by various delinquents, vagabonds, etc. they unionized to get her back home and cat didn’t let her outside for a year. immediately after she was ungrounded she ran away again to murder pigeons en masse because she had just read wringer by jerry spinelli and took away the wrong message. now she just reads fencing instructional books. also a warrior cats kid.

Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors
Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?
What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.
Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.
Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!
Check it all out under the cut ⬇️

between dust and dawn
https://archiveofourown.org/works/58081114 by webss312 “You…” Tony’s eyes narrowed. “Where are you staying, then?” he asked, carefully, like he was afraid of the answer. “May is staying in one of the post-snap womens’ shelters down the street from our old apartment,” Peter responded, watching as Tony’s shoulders relaxed incrementally at the mention of May— before tensing up again when Peter didn’t continue. “And you?” his mentor prodded, though knowing that the non-answer in and of itself was answer enough. “Rooftop on 53rd, when I’m lucky.” OR: The Endgame fixit wherein I a) make everyone live, b) simultaneously traumatize Peter further by making him homeless due to his scroungy resourceful stubborn traumatized self-sacrificial self, and c) actually deal with the countless ramifications of bringing back half of the entire world’s population in a single instant— as seen through Peter’s eyes as he helps the city as Spider-Man.
