concept that just hit me: pete comes across an old photo of his like… idk, let’s sayyyy 4th grade class. he’s looking at all the other kids and trying to remember their names just to see if he can, and he gets caught on this one girl. she has braces and ridiculously tight bunches (pigtails). she kinda looks like darla from finding nemo but that’s not why she looks familiar to him. he can’t quite put his finger on it. he remembers that steph went to that school too and he texts her the photo with a circle drawn around the girl & he’s like “Steph do you remember who this is? She looks familiar but I can’t place it, it’s driving me nuts”

after about 2 minutes of being left on read [which pete doesn’t know was mostly steph laughing her ass off] a reply comes back that just says “yeah i remember. those braces were such a pain in the ass”

pete.exe buffers, crashes, reboots.

then he proceeds to call her to infodump about digimon for like an hour (she doesn’t mind)

What ships do you have for Yu-Gi-Oh! male leads and the Yu-Gi-Oh! series you have seen?

For most of the main characters, I don't really have any ships! Not opposed to an idea of any of them in relationships, but one of the reasons I got into yugioh was the lack of romantic subplots. This being said, I am an utter fiend for starshipping (Jaden x Yusei)

They're two of the most ace aro idiots of all time how are they dating no one knows it doesn't even look like a relationship to most people, but they know each others demons they are foils they are soulmates.... I will yell about this to my dying day. I have an entire aspec romance novel sitting uncompleted in my drafts about this. They just get eachother despite being completely different breeds of people.

Also Jesse having a crush on Jaden and having to get over it and settle into this completely anormative chaos relationship where they're soulmates who aren't dating but are each others' Most Important Person.... Yubel accepting and loving Jaden just the way they are now regardless of promises made in the past.... I see a queerplatonic ship and I go "Mh yes delicious."

Lazytown/yugioh AU might be cool if you’d wanna discuss!

I got some ideas like: maybe Stephanie as Yugi (main character, positive and upbeat); Trixie as Yami Yugi (more of a mischievous character, friends w/ main character); Stingy as Kaiba, Ziggy as Joey or maybe Bakura?, and maybe Pixel as Duke Devlin? I’m unsure for him- Duke is really into games though; and I’m still deciding for Sportacus and Robbie Rotten. Maybe Shadi and Pegasus, respectively?

I know you might not be familiar with it but I thought it might be a cool AU regardless!

I just looked it up and I really can't tell if I've ever even heard of Yugioh, but all the Lazytown AUs are very interesting to me, and this concept that you've described sounds pretty legit, especially with the fact that both of these media have a cheerful main character, a mischievous character, and a character who's interested in games :D And it is cool indeed!!

i think what really bugs re critiquing s2 aki izayoi is that like. i can't make any critique without someone going "YEAH HER WRITING IS THE WOOOORST IT'S ONLY HER THAT GOT BAD WRITING IN S2 AND THAT'S WHY I CAN'T STAND YUGIOH WOMEN BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL BADLY WRITTEN" and like. oh my god.

aki's writing is flawed, but not irredeemably bad. just like how yusei, jack, crow, sherry, bruno, lua, luka, carly, mikage, and stephanie all got hit with the clumsy genre shift, sudden allergy to writing complex women, and the overintroduction of new characters in an extremely short time span, aki also suffers in s2, yes. but it's not that irredeemably bad.

the biggest fixes to her writing i'd overall make is 1) not make her control over her powers be something that happens off screen, 2) not reduce her entire riding duel learning to a singular episode, 3) inject some much needed agency into her (something arguably yusei, carly, mikage, & stephanie also badly need), and 4) actually give her interactions with bruno and sherry. granted, that's part of a broader problem where bruno & sherry both are on the outside of team 5ds, never directly interacting with anyone BUT yusei so like. that's also a fix to them too lol

like. it's not irredeemably bad. i promise you. except for the making her want to be a doctor out of nowhere. that is irredeemably bad and is going straight in the garbage where it belongs.

atm my main focuses are

Junesu- Junpei/Stephanie (Desu), Persona 3. Junpei is a dorky guy who fancies himself as a Casanova, he also has an interest American culture and baseball. Stephanie is a Canadian girl in Tatsumi Port Island on an exchange program and is a massive weeaboo. It's a friends to lovers deal and very slow burn lol

CharLey - Char/Nnyley, Gundam. Char is an ace pilot and former commander for Zeon who goes under the alias Quattro Bajeena. He is in love with a former protege (?) Of his named Lalah and keeps everyone at a distance. Nnyley is a comm officer who is madly in love with Quattro and Char's legend. She's an annoying fangirl but once she learns his secret, she starts to take him down from her pedestal. She eventually joins him when he comes back from the seemingly dead.

Judemi - Judai/Emi (Jaden x Amy), Yugioh gx. A childhood oc/cc ship of mine where it was childhood friends to lovers to exes. Emi had a crush on Judai for years but he was oblivious until she finally confessed to him in their second year. She winds up teen preggers with his kid ans drops out of school due to the pregnancy and drama going on in season 3. They don't reconnect until years later.

KiraYuga - Kirameki/Yuga , MHA. Kirameki is a gloomy and kinda greasy fujoshi who has a crush on Aoyama. He doesn't notice her at first but when she confesses he treats her like a princess. It's a cute and awkward relationship fbbfhfhdh

Batfam, favorite Duel Monsters archetypes/strategies, go.

gonna preface this by saying that while i do play duel monsters and have never lost a game, that’s because i’ve only played like. five games ever.

also i haven’t touched my deck in at least five years so. that being said.

i think most of the batfam would tend towards strategies that rely on trap or spell cards rather than drawing a specific powerhouse monster (looking at you kaiba)

dick has two different decks - one he uses to play for fun and one he uses when he wants to win. the first deck is mainly made up of cards with puns in the name bc he thinks it’s funny (and also because he loves the look of dawning horror on his opponent’s face as they start to realize that the puns won’t stop). unfortunately that leaves that deck not super well-balanced but he enjoys the mental exercise of trying to win anyway. his deck for winning is made up of mostly water/wind type monsters and one time it made wally cry.

jason’s deck is the most well put together (by which i mean every card he draws enhances whatever cards he has in his hand) and it’s pretty well balanced although he does tend to go a little heavy on the trap cards and field cards. it works for him though. a lot of his monster cards are fiend or psychic type.

tim learned how to play via the yugioh tv show so while his deck is pretty well put together and has a bunch of intricate almost instant win combinations, he mostly relies on luck of the draw (and the heart of the cards ofc) to actually get those combos. tim is not a lucky person, and although those combos are devastating to his opponent when he does pull the right cards, they’re much less effective when he keeps pulling one card from each of his combos instead of a complete combo. his main monster type is dragons bc he made his deck when he was like twelve and he thought they were cool (secretly he likes the pun).

cass has a super op light/fighting type deck. i forget which card it is but there’s one that’s like “every light monster on your side of the field gets 500x(# of light monsters on field) points added to their attack score” and once she plays that it is over. she mostly relies on monster effects over spell cards though so even if she doesn’t draw that card she usually wins.

damian loves using field cards to give himself an advantage or to give his opponents a disadvantage but he also shoots himself in the foot a little because whenever he comes across a card he thinks looks cute he adds it to his deck. he tries to incorporate the cute monsters into his strategy but it doesn’t always work. yes he has at least one kuriboh in his deck. kind of reminds him of goliath. he owns like fifty monster reborn cards.

duke’s only just been inducted into the secret batfam duel monsters competition and he’s having to overhaul his deck from when he was like ten. it’s mostly warrior and winged beast type monsters and he’s a little low on spell and trap cards. jason’s offered to let him have some of the cards he isn’t using (he has a stash of old DM cards bc he refuses to throw them away) but duke hasn’t had a chance to look through them yet.

steph refused to play the first time tim asked if she wanted to join and now there’s a bet going on to see who can get her to cave first. she knows about it and refuses to give them the satisfaction. she does know all the rules though and often gets pulled into being the referee (mostly to stop the peanut gallery demo interfering tbh)
