Headcase: LGBTQ Writers and Artists on Mental Health and Wellness, edited by Stephanie Schroeder and Teresa Theophano
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Before queerness was seen as an identity it was considered a disease, given entries in the DSM, and used as an excuse to detain and "cure" people of perceived deviance. Even after revisions to diagnostic practices, both past and present traumas contribute to high rates of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses among LGBTQ populations. Thirty-seven artists, writers, poets, psychologists and more lend their voices to this collection, exploring their personal experiences with queerness and mental health, whether related to their identity or otherwise.
This collection wasn't bad, but I feel that it would have the most value to an ally who wants to understand and support queer people in their community, or perhaps a LGBTQ person who isn't very familiar with the history. Most of what it covered were things I already knew about, so my reading experience was more emotionally exhausting than illuminating. There were some pieces that were very interesting to me though, such as Fidelindo Lam's contrast of his identity as a gay man in the Philippines versus how we understand gay identity in the United States, as well as the stories that sought to share personal accounts as opposed to arguing why therapists should do this or that.
I was pleased by how diverse the contributors were. It's skewed towards the US and UK, but the collection features racial diversity as well as a full spectrum of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and non-binary individuals. It's also very accessible to people without a background in psychology(my own consists of a single 100-level course). A couple of the chapters get a bit dense, but I was able to follow the argument without needing google as a reference. All in all, I'd recommend this primarily to people who work in or engage with mental health support systems and would like to learn more about supporting LGBTQ populations. It might also have strong appeal to LGBTQ people who are looking to learn more about queer history as it relates to mental health struggles.

This is great. Werewolf, drama, comedy, etc. CinemaSerf: I will admit to being somewhat sceptical when I sat down to watch this, but within about twenty minutes the auditorium was chuckling to the witty banter of Sean Pertwee and his squad of soldiers who find themselves stuck on an exercise in a remote Scottish forest when they’d sooner be in the wardroom sinking a few beers while watching Germany beat England at football. When their fireside banter is ruined by a missile shaped like a dead cow; things start to liven up and what ensues is a race against time for their very survival there are more dangerous creatures in the forest than red squirrels! Kevin McKidd keeps the troop focussed at they face their foes with grim determination and their black humour prevails pretty much throughout their ordeal. The special effects are a little bit “Dr. Who” but Neil Marshall ensures the lighting and sound folks do their level best to keep the suspense going for a long as possible and at no stage does it hang about: it’s end to end action with a tinge – a soupçon – of horror as the story builds to an enjoyable denouement! On the big screen again now in late 2020 – not sure why – but if you get chance, and you like your horror unsophisticated and funny, then this is definitely for you.

Girls Think Of Everything By Catherine Thimmesh
In kitchens and living rooms, in garages and labs and basements, even in converted chicken coops, women and girls have invented ingenious innovations that have made our lives simpler and better. Their creations are some of the most enduring (the windshield wiper) and best loved (the chocolate chip cookie). What inspired these women, and just how did they turn their ideas into realities?
Features women inventors Ruth Wakefield, Mary Anderson, Stephanie Kwolek, Bette Nesmith Graham, Patsy O. Sherman, Ann Moore, Grace Murray Hopper, Margaret E. Knight, Jeanne Lee Crews, and Valerie L. Thomas, as well as young inventors ten-year-old Becky Schroeder and eleven-year-old Alexia Abernathy. Illustrated in vibrant collage by Caldecott Honor artist Melissa Sweet.

I’m Waiting For Kameron to Be Fired!
Rumor has it that only 3 housewives will get their contracts renewed on RHOD.
And the question on everybody’s mind is who are those 3?!
It’s almost hard to see a future for RHOD after the vile display of racism with the war on Twitter.
There has been no news about reprimands of Kameron Westcott after the racist attack on Tiffany Moon from her and her family.
And I feel a certain way about it.
Bravo did put out a statement where they supported Tiffany and her work with the AAPI community.
But they must come down harder on blatant display of racism.
I think that the punishment of LeeAnne Locken was far worse than Bravo’s reaction to Kameron and her family.
That’s not right!
Kameron and her family tried to make Tiffany look like the racist one and that is despicable and vile.
Some may make a point that her husband and his brother did the most and worst here, but I haven’t forgotten her response when a fan told her to get her family in check.
“Haha, they’re protective of me.”
It’s the laugh for me. She act like this isn’t a big deal.
She needs to go. Bravo should announce it like they did with Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute.
Just humiliate her and give the statement that they cannot support racism on their platform.
Am I evil for wishing for such a thing? I don’t care.
Kameron and her family needs a reality check and a one way ticket back to Earth and 2021.
Fans are hoping that the housewives returning are Stephanie Hollman, D’Andra Simmons and Tiffany.
Personally I haven’t got a damn clue.
Tiffany hasn’t gotten the best feedback from her work colleagues or family members, which made her hesitant about returning for another season.
But no way in hell will it be okay to bring Kameron back next season. Bring her back at your peril, Bravo.
The future of RHOD is in my opinion hanging by a thin thread and this feels like their last chance.
So make it count and fire Kameron.

Here's how atheist candidates fared in the 2022 elections
There are at least 15 nonreligious state senators.
This is a jump from 10 just two years ago. While they use different labels to describe themselves, these legislators show that you can represent people of faith even when you don’t believe in a Higher Power yourself.
Sen. Stanley Chang (HI)
Geoff Schroeder (ID)
Pinny Beebe-Center (NH)
Sen. William Brownsberger (MA)
Sen. Jeff Irwin (MI)
Sen. Jen McEwen (MN)
Sen. Megan Hunt (NE)
Sen. Andrew Zwicker (NJ) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. William Peter Soules (NM) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Julie Mayfield (NC)
Nate Blouin (UT)
Rep. Rebecca White (VT)
Sen. Dick McCormack (VT)
Sen. Melissa Agard (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Kelda Roys (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Jeanne Casteen (AZ)
Sen. Juan Mendez (AZ)
Brian Nash (CA)
Maria Peterson (IL)
You can see from the list that the senators include challengers, former state representatives, and incumbents whose open nonreligiosity wasn’t a dealbreaker for voters.
There are at least 44 nonreligious state representatives
With several races yet to be called, this is heading toward a record number of nonreligious State House members.
Jennifer Longdon (AZ)
Rep. Melody Hernandez (AZ)
Rep. Athena Salman (AZ)
Rep. Karen McCormick (CO)
Rep. Brianna Titone (CO)
Rep. Chris Kennedy (CO)
Rep. Judy Amabile (CO)
Rep. Cathy Kipp (CO)
Rep. Joshua Elliott (CT)
Rep. Roland J. Lemar (CT)
Rep. Paul Baumbach (DE)
Rep. Eric Morrison (DE)
Rep. Anna Eskamani (FL)
Elinor Levin (IA)
Rep. Lynne Williams (ME)
Rep. Lois Reckitt (ME)
Rep. Julie Palakovich Carr (MD)
Rep. David Moon (MD)
Rep. Jim Hawkins (MA)
Rep. Tram Nguyen (MA)
Rep. Mike Freiberg (MI)
Bob Carter (MT)
Rep. Rochelle Nguyen (NV)
Rep. Howard Watts III (NV)
Carry Spier (NH)
Rep. Sherry Dutzy (NH)
Rep. Amanda Bouldin (NH)
Rep. Kat McGhee (NH)
Rep. Jacqueline Chretien (NH)
Rep. Ellen Read (NH)
Rep. Harvey Epstein (NY)
Rep. Pam Marsh (OR)
Rep. Julie Fahey (OR)
Emily Kinkead (PA)
Mark Rozzi (PA)
Robert Ziegler (PA)
Rep. Chris Rabb (PA)
Rep. Jon Rosenthal (TX)
Rep. Robin Scheu (VT)
Rep. Kathleen James (VT)
Rep. Barbara Rachelson (VT)
Monique Priestley (VT)
Rep. Strom Peterson (WA)
Rep. Francesca Hong (WI)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Sara Aminzadeh (CA)
Alex Lee (CA)
Stephanie Vigil (CO)
Jennifer Parenti (CO)
Brooke Grossman (MD)
Joey Andrews (MI)
Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban (NH)
Wendy Thomas (NH)
Holly Hillhouse (NH)
Melanie Renfrew-Hebert (NH)
Courtney Neron (OR)
Zach Hudson (OR)
Rep. Ashlee Matthews (UT)
Mike Rice (VT)
Jessica Wadhams (WA)
As you can see, there’s a mix of incumbents and challengers, including in several red states.

34 new TARDIS social interactions available.
My future plans:
I want to rework the whole TARDIS interactions thing. Sims won't behave like ghosts anymore. That's why I don't add more interactions/room. The whole system needs a fresh restart and I want it to make it possible to share the TARDIS (like Woohoo, travelling with others etc.).

🔎 YA Under the Radar 🔍
For a while, I’ve been thinking about doing a recommendations list of YA novels that don’t get as much love as they probably deserve. So here are 50 of my favourite YA novels and series that (as of December 18th 2018) have less than 10,000 ratings on Goodreads.
All of these books are from my “read” shelf on Goodreads and I fully endorse them. Some are contemporaries, some are speculative fiction, all are awesome. Many of the authors on this list are from the UK or Australia as well.
Please feel free to add your own so that we can spread the love for these hidden gems of the genre!
