Breaking News: Los Angeles Wildfires Update
Los Angeles, CA – January 13, 2025
A fast-moving wildfire erupted overnight in the Los Angeles area, prompting urgent evacuations and spreading across thousands of acres due to dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds.
Key Developments:
Evacuations Ordered: Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders for communities in the northern and western parts of Los Angeles County, including neighborhoods in Topanga Canyon and Malibu. Residents are urged to leave immediately as conditions worsen.
Fire Spread: The blaze, dubbed the "Sunset Ridge Fire," has already consumed over 8,000 acres and is currently 10% contained, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Firefighters are working tirelessly to establish containment lines but are facing significant challenges due to gusty winds reaching up to 60 mph.
Road Closures and Air Quality: Several major highways, including portions of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and the 101 Freeway, have been shut down to facilitate evacuation efforts and ensure public safety. Additionally, air quality in the region has deteriorated, with officials advising residents in affected areas to remain indoors and use air purifiers if possible.
Power Outages: In an effort to prevent further fires, utility companies have initiated precautionary power shutoffs in high-risk zones. Thousands of residents are currently without electricity.
Emergency Shelters: Temporary shelters have been set up at designated locations, including:
Palisades Charter High School
Agoura Hills Recreation Center
Santa Monica Civic AuditoriumThese shelters are providing food, water, and medical assistance to evacuees.
Governor Declares State of Emergency
California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles County, unlocking additional resources and funding to combat the fire and assist displaced residents.
"We are deploying all available resources to ensure the safety of our communities and support those affected by this devastating wildfire," Governor Newsom said in a press statement.
Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant
Officials are reminding residents to monitor local news outlets and emergency alerts for updates on the fire's progression and evacuation orders. The LAFD has also provided tips for fire preparedness, including:
Packing emergency kits with essential items.
Keeping vehicles fueled and ready for evacuation.
Avoiding outdoor activities due to poor air quality.
How to Help
Those wishing to assist can donate to organizations like the Red Cross or local food banks. Volunteers are also needed at shelters to support evacuees.
Stay Updated
For the latest information, follow the Los Angeles Fire Department on social media or visit their official website. Updates will also be provided on local news stations and emergency alert systems.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor the situation.

Stay Vigilant: How to Avoid Scams in the Crypto Space
Tumblr media
The cryptocurrency world is full of promise, opportunity, and innovation, but unfortunately, it's also a breeding ground for scams. As crypto continues to rise in popularity, so do the number of people looking to take advantage of others. According to a report by Chainalysis, cryptocurrency scams cost investors $14 billion in 2021 alone, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance. Scammers are getting smarter and more sophisticated, targeting individuals through social media and other online platforms. I've personally encountered these scams, and today I want to share my experience to help others stay safe.
The Psychology of Scams
At the heart of every scam is one thing: manipulation. Scammers are experts at playing on human emotions—whether it's excitement, greed, or desperation. They know how to make offers seem irresistible, making promises of unbelievable returns or exclusive opportunities. Their entire approach is built around FOMO (fear of missing out) and urgency, pushing people to act quickly without thinking critically.
It's important to understand that these scams often seem tailor-made for each individual. Scammers take time to study their targets, learning their interests and pain points, before crafting the perfect pitch.
Common Types of Scams
There are several common types of scams in the crypto space that you should be aware of:
Phishing Attempts: Attempts to steal sensitive information by pretending to be a legitimate entity. Whether it's a fake email or website, scammers often ask for private keys or passwords.
Fake Giveaways and Impersonations: You might have seen these on social media—"Send 0.1 BTC and get 1 BTC in return!" These scams often involve impersonators posing as well-known figures or organizations.
Investment Scams: These scams promise guaranteed returns that sound too good to be true. The scammer tries to convince you to invest in a project or exchange that ultimately disappears with your money.
Off-the-Wall Exchanges: Many scammers will direct you to sketchy, little-known exchanges, promising quick profits. These platforms often have no regulatory oversight and can vanish overnight, taking your assets with them.
Pump and Dump Schemes: In these scams, fraudsters artificially inflate the price of a cryptocurrency through false statements, then sell their holdings at the inflated price, causing the value to crash.
My Personal Experience
Recently, I've been targeted by scammers on X (formerly Twitter). The pattern is always the same: someone follows me, I follow them back, and within a short time, they slide into my DMs with an investment pitch. They promise incredible returns, sometimes showing fake testimonials or screenshots of "earnings." Every time, they try to send me to obscure exchanges, claiming I need to use their "exclusive platform" to achieve these returns.
The red flags were obvious to me: the promises were outlandish, and the exchanges were completely unfamiliar. It's important to trust your instincts in these situations. If something feels off, it probably is.
Why Scammers Succeed
So why do these scams work? It comes down to psychological tricks. Scammers create a sense of urgency, making you feel like you'll miss out on an opportunity if you don't act quickly. They also prey on greed, offering returns that are too good to pass up. For many people, the idea of easy money is tempting enough to lower their guard, even when the deal seems suspicious.
Scammers also succeed because they create fear or doubt. They might claim that the window of opportunity is closing, or that their "offer" is only available for a limited time. These tactics work because they bypass logical thinking and appeal directly to emotion.
How to Stay Vigilant
Staying safe in the crypto space requires a mixture of caution, skepticism, and research. Here are a few ways to protect yourself:
Recognize the Red Flags: If someone promises guaranteed returns, especially astronomical ones, be wary. Similarly, if you're being rushed into making a decision or are directed to an unknown exchange, stop and evaluate the situation.
Research Exchanges Before Investing: Always take time to thoroughly research any exchange you plan to use. Look at reviews, check for regulatory compliance, and verify if the platform has a strong track record.
Protect Your Digital Assets: Use hardware wallets and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all your accounts. Avoid sharing sensitive information like your private keys with anyone, and be mindful of phishing attempts.
Report Suspicious Activity: If you encounter a scam, report the account or platform to the appropriate authorities. On social media, you can block and report scammers to help protect others from falling victim.
Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest crypto news and scam tactics. Websites like CoinDesk and Cointelegraph can be valuable resources.
What to Do If You've Been Scammed
If you believe you've fallen victim to a crypto scam, take these steps immediately:
Stop All Communication: Cut off contact with the scammer immediately.
Document Everything: Save all communications, transaction details, and any other relevant information.
Report the Scam: Contact your local law enforcement and file a report. Also, report the scam to the relevant crypto exchange or platform.
Inform Your Bank: If you used a credit card or bank transfer, contact your bank immediately to try and stop or reverse the transaction.
Seek Support: Being scammed can be emotionally devastating. Don't hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or professional counseling services.
Conclusion
The world of crypto offers immense potential, but it's also filled with risks. Scammers are becoming smarter, and their methods more sophisticated, but by staying vigilant and doing your research, you can protect yourself from their traps. Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Take the time to think critically, guard your assets, and most importantly, stay informed.
Stay safe out there, and happy investing!

📱🚫⚡️ ALBO wants you to turn off your phone?!?!?! But why? Well, he's been communicating with the new king of cyber safety in good old down under and they've sussed out the situation. The down low key notes are that those pesky hackers want your deets and your phones have those deets. So to stop them dead in their tracks, you can use this one simple trick: just turn your phone off. 🙅‍♂️💥
But this advice ain't new, my fellow Tumblarians! The US of A decided way back in 2020 that the advice was lit af. 🔥🔥
The cool doctor was like, "yo, you want alarms all hours? Don't do it. Just be the cool person and prank the script kiddies with the power of no power." 😎🔌
So, fam, next time you're feeling like you're under attack from those hackers, remember Albo's advice and power down that phone. Stay safe out there! ✌️🔐✨

The Internet is a Graveyard Episode #3 of REALTALK is making me want to dig my own GRAVE.
Tumblr media
Last week the REALTALK girls were back at it again to spout misinformed nonsense. After spending 30 minutes questioning if I should just throw my laptop out the window and run away to go live in the forest away from all these ignorant people, I decided otherwise and instead have come here to debunk them once again. On Episode #3, the girls had a lot of say about ghosts being trapped on the internet. YES! you read that right. I’m using this article by Oliver Misraje and this article by Kate Wagner to help debunk their ABSURD claims.
FIRST, let me make this very clear if it wasn’t already obvious to everyone before hand. THERE ARE NO GHOSTS LIVING IN YOUR COMPUTER! The REALTALK girls never actually mention what the overarching concept all their jabberwocky from this week is encompassed by, but in short, from what I can decipher, they’re discussing the concept of digital ghosts. The concept of digital ghosts refers to the online personas left behind by those who have passed. This entails both the digital footprints of the deceased through their social media profiles and blogs, as well as the usage of digital spaces to create memorials for deceased individuals. Though the concept encompasses a variety of topics ‘virtual ghosts’ are NOT real ghosts being controlled by SATAN. Yes, Joanna Rogain I wrote the S word.
I will say that I commend the REALTALK girls on using some thought towards their ghost conspiracy. The idea that minerals are harvested from the ashes of witches and used to make up motherboards in computers, which result in how ghosts are able to enter the internet and talk to people through their screens as well as shut down ‘GODLY’ websites, is some real deep thinking - I hope my readers can catch on to the sarcasm ;) Sadly ladies it’s not the ghosts of leftists that are the reason ‘404 Page Not Found’ pops up on your screen when you try to access your old bible study website. In actuality, website pages like humans can be living or dead. ‘404 Page Not Found’ is the message that appears when a user tries to access an internet page that has a broken URL or has been deleted, or in other words is DEAD. These are the REAL ghosts of the internet, the phantom sites that once were. #RIPADOBEFLASHGAMES
Going back to the idea of virtual ghosts in relation to creating digital memorials, there is a supposed ethical issue associated with the principle, and not in the bible thumping way of the REALTALK girls. Another usage for AI has risen once again with usage of AI chatbots to help with grief. The supposed ‘ghosts’ the REALTALK girls were discussing are actually uploaded personalities of deceased individuals onto chatbots. These chatbots are then used to allow a person grieving to talk to their lost loved one. I’m no psychologist so I won’t comment too much on the matter, but I do find this a little creepy and arguably a way to exploit a grieving person if these chatbots become commercialized.
Speaking on unethical commercialization of digital memories – NFT’s. Once again, those pesky NFT’s come into play in relation to virtual ghosts. How you might ask? Well, you can blame Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse, and the creation of meta cemeteries. Marble Town is the first of these metaverse cemeteries in which users have the ability to purchase plots and headstones for deceased individuals. They can then decorate these plots with NFT’s and hold virtual memorial services. Some may call this sentimental, others on the more pessimistic train might call it a way to prey on grief-stricken individuals and steal their money. And hey, the funeral industry has already been doing that for decades, but given the dead are already taking up space in the ground, do they really need to be taking up space in the internet too (need I remind you the internet also takes up space in reality and damages our environment) all because some techy wants to make an extra buck???????
Tumblr media
But hey you guys can come up with your own thoughts about digital ghosts, I’m just here to make sure you realize they aren’t actual ghosts in need of busting. Don’t let misinformed people try to scare you with ideas of ghosts controlling the internet. Even when things seem obvious, I guess it’s not always to everyone so always remember to double check what you hear online. I guess you can say I like to double check people so that no spook, specter, or tradwife will ever be safe again. As always remember to #StayVigilant!

Step 1: Identify the Charge
1️⃣ Check Your Statement: Look for details like the transaction date, amount, and merchant name. Sometimes the name might be abbreviated or different from what you expect. 2️⃣ Think Back: Did you recently visit a store, sign up for a subscription, or make an online purchase? It could be something you forgot about. 3️⃣ Ask Around: If you share your card with family or friends, check if they made the purchase.
