checking 11ty
I’ve seen many blogs I really like refer to 11ty as the one static site generator to rule them all. The intro video seems like it’s dead simple and the setup feels a lot like obsidian templates and setup. In fact, I often write a bunch of content with very similar templating in obsidian and it feels like there might be some benefits to convert the site into 11ty as a result. So, I’ve added this…

Hi!!
I’ve been super inspired by your blog and want to try coding my own personal website from scratch, I’m just not sure where to go for hosting it! Is Wordpress a must even without using templates? Every resource on this turns out to be an ad for Squarespace. What worked for you/what would you recommend?
Thank you!
hi hi, i put the source code for my website up on github yesterday (link below), and as most personal blogs by like nerdy folks it doesn't use a CMS or anything but a static site generator (in my case eleventy) which allows you to write blog posts and stuff in templates with usually markdown and then compiles it all to static html files so your site requires barely any resources and doesn't really have ANY attack surface. feel free to look at how i did my site to get a bit of an idea of the possibilities!

Thoughts on micro.blog
Not gonna lie, I’m enjoying it. It’s somewhat janky behind the scenes (as expected, it’s a small team of developers after all), but it works pretty great in syndicating posts (or cross-posting) to other networks without requiring plugins or manual modifications. More than that, it exports the whole blog as Markdown (ready to be used with Hugo if you want to) or in HTML (great for archival purposes). I’m seriously thinking about moving my blog here just because of that, as despite really liking the WordPress CMS for blogging, it effectively locks you within its system with an export that seems pretty hard to clean up and use elsewhere, and the IndieWeb plugins don’t make up for it, even if they work great.
(I won’t even touch the whole shenanigans involving the CEO but, suffice it to say, I don’t feel comfortable using a self-hosted open-source project where one person has absolute control and can cut, whenever he wants, people using the .org version from accessing automatic updates and such. This kinda defeats the purpose of the project being open-source to me, to be honest. I prefer to use a private-owned platform with good exports as “escape options” in that case.)
Anyway, I messed around with the default theme here a bit and was able to do almost everything I wanted to, which is way more than what I was able to when trying to use Ghost (before WordPress). Let me be clear, though: Ghost is an awesome platform, but the lack of blog-focused themes (especially ones that didn’t break if the post lacked an image), and the fact they only export a .json file that apparently is also hard to wrangle, kinda pushed me away. I (a non-coder) tried messing around with Ghost’s theming for a while and had a moderate amount of success, but was still pretty unhappy with the result. Here, it was way easier.
I also tried Bear Blog and, to be honest, was having a hard time deciding between it and micro.blog. However, Bear Blog only exports a .csv that, despite still being more useful than Ghost’s .json and WordPress’s .xml, is still not a markdown export, you know. The lack of comments and syndication is also a negative for me. Not that I expect tons of comments or anything, but I had blogs in the past where every once in a while someone commented and it was pretty awesome, especially when they brought new information to the topic at hand.
So, yeah, despite micro.blog not being open-source and being kinda janky, I like the options it gives me (and I also don’t have to spend time maintaining a website or fixing broken stuff in it). This post should show up on Mastodon, Tumblr, and Bluesky, and comments made under it should show up here (not sure this works with Tumblr, though), which is awesome because it puts me in touch with almost all of my friends scattered through different networks.
There were some issues with the WordPress import, so I’ll bring my older posts here manually, little by little. If I like the way stuff looks, I’ll move my “official domain” here. If I don’t, I might try that ClassicPress thing, or finally give up and force myself to learn to code so I can better use a static site generator.

Web Development Trends 2023: What's Shaping the Future of Online Experiences
The development of the web over time is evidence of the tech industry's commitment to constant innovation in the face of a constantly shifting digital landscape. Keeping up with these changes is crucial if we are to continue providing our clients with the most innovative solutions as a leading Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.
Web development has come a long way from its infancy to the present day. Static HTML web pages were the foundation upon which the modern web was developed. The pages were static and lacked the interactive elements that characterise modern websites. However, a giant leap was made in web development with the introduction of JavaScript and its associated frameworks. This ushered in a new era of user-centric design, rich media, and dynamic content.
The subsequent appearance of content management systems (CMS) triggered a sea change in web development and administration. WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal are just a few of the platforms that have simplified content updates and modifications by eliminating the need for elaborate coding. As a top Web development company in Gujarat, India we were responsible for implementing these systems to provide our customers with better control over their material and provide more streamlined processes.
As the variety of devices available to users grew, so did the demand for responsive web design. Maintaining continuity of use across devices with varying display sizes is now of crucial importance. This focus on responsive design is in line with our mission as a Vadodara web development company to deliver excellent user experiences on all devices.
Cutting-edge innovations like AI, Progressive online Apps, and AR have come to define modern online design and development. These developments are raising the bar for performance and user interaction, allowing for the creation of truly unique digital experiences. As an excellent Web development company in India, we've embraced these developments, tapping into their potential to create sites that expertly blend aesthetic value with state-of-the-art features.
The Advent of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs):
The advent of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) has been heralded as a revolutionary step that has effectively blurred the distinctions between regular web pages and dedicated mobile apps. Nivida Web Solutions is recognised as a distinct Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. We recognise the potential of PWAs to improve digital interactions for our customers and their end users, and we are committed to seizing this opportunity.
When it comes to interacting with and understanding material on the web, progressive web apps herald a significant shift. These applications take the greatest features of both websites and mobile apps and offer users extraordinary interactivity and functionality. We know that progressive web apps' (PWAs') smooth user experience is crucial to attracting and retaining visitors.
PWAs are distinguished by their adaptability to different screen sizes and devices. PWAs guarantee the same high-quality experience across all devices, from mobile to desktop. Being the most reliable Web development company in Gujarat, we are dedicated to providing solutions that are as adaptable as possible to meet the needs of a wide range of users.
Instant loading times are another strength of PWAs, which they achieve in spades regardless of network performance. Faster loading speeds improve the user experience by decreasing the need for patience-testing waits. We know how important it is for our client's digital platforms to load quickly so that users can have a positive experience.
In addition, PWAs include offline capabilities that let consumers view content even without an active internet connection. This is a huge deal, especially in places with spotty internet service.
Voice Search and AI Integration: Transforming User Interactions
Key developments, such as voice search and AI integration, are revolutionising the way people use the internet. We at a premier Web development company in India understand the revolutionary potential of these technologies to shape the future of people's time spent online, and we're dedicated to maximising that potential to create delightful, natural user experiences for our customers and their target demographics.
Voice-activated search engines are changing the way people find their way online. The way individuals look for information has changed drastically since the introduction of voice-activated devices and virtual assistants. To ensure that our clients' platforms are still discoverable and available to consumers who prefer speech-based queries, as a reputable Web development company in Gujarat, we know the value of optimising websites for voice search.
Another game-changer in user engagement is the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI), especially in the form of chatbots. Artificial intelligence-based chatbots allow for immediate help and tailored suggestions. Users are more satisfied and invested in the experience because it feels more human. As an India-based web development agency, we specialise in incorporating AI-powered chatbots to provide innovative user experiences that go beyond standard interfaces.
In addition, businesses may learn more about their customers' habits and preferences using AI-driven data analysis, paving the way for more tailored content and a more satisfied customer base. Vadodara's most innovative web developers know full well the strategic value of using AI to create personalised user experiences.
Keeping up with the competition requires websites to evolve as the use of voice search and AI increases. Our agile web development team builds AI-driven features that respond to user preferences and expedite interactions to make websites voice search-friendly.
Web Accessibility and Inclusive Design: Making the Web Universally Usable
The trend now is towards making websites and apps usable for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The principles of web accessibility and inclusive design have recently come to the fore, greatly impacting the process by which new websites are created. We understand the impact these tendencies will have on the future of people's interactions with the internet and are dedicated to building accessible platforms for everyone.
For those with physical or cognitive impairments, it is essential that websites be built with accessibility in mind from the start. However, Inclusive Design goes above and beyond accessibility standards by taking into account a wider range of user requirements and preferences. We, as Gujarat's leading web development agency, believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the same high-quality online services without discrimination.
Screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, picture alt text, and optimisation for users with visual, aural, or cognitive impairments are all components of Web Accessibility. Not only does Inclusive Design account for people of all ages and linguistic backgrounds, but it also takes into account the specific needs of those users. Websites built by an Indian web development firm following these guidelines would be accessible to the widest possible audience.
Web accessibility and inclusive design have many positive outcomes. For starters, they improve the quality of service provided by a website by making it easier to navigate and utilise. Second, they allow people who might not have been able to visit websites before to do so because of these tools. Websites that are easy for users with disabilities to navigate tend to rank higher in search results. Being the most distinguished Web development company in India, it is our responsibility to ensure that these guiding principles are fully included in our work so that no user is overlooked.
Immersive Technologies: AR and VR Redefining Online Experiences
The advent of new kinds of online experiences is due in large part to the widespread adoption of immersive technologies like AR and VR. We at Nivida Web Solutions, recognise the game-changing potential of augmented and virtual reality to shape the future of the internet. Incorporating these innovations into websites and apps will allow developers to craft more engaging and dynamic experiences for users.
In Augmented Reality, the user's environment is augmented with digital elements such as images, animations, and data. In contrast, virtual reality (VR) allows users to feel as though they are actually present and interacting within a digital world. We see the potential for augmented and virtual reality integration to transform customers' online experiences across sectors.
Virtual and augmented reality has the potential to produce very compelling interactions that will draw people in and keep them engrossed in digital material. The level of immersion provided by these technologies is unrivalled by more conventional means, whether one is trying on clothes before buying them or touring a house virtually. As an Indian web development firm, it is our job to leverage augmented and virtual reality to create user experiences that stick with them long after they've left the website.
The fields of teaching, learning, and leisure could likewise benefit greatly from these innovations. The ways in which people take in information are changing as a result of the advent of augmented and virtual reality technologies. Responsible web development in Vadodara means using cutting-edge tools like augmented and virtual reality to build cutting-edge platforms that provide users with more than just the run-of-the-mill experience.
Final Thoughts:
The trends we've covered thus far are just the tip of the iceberg, but they give us a glimpse into the exciting and transformational future of online experiences as we look ahead to 2023 and beyond. All of these developments—from Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and voice search to Augmented Reality (AR) and inclusive design—point to a single truth about the modern digital landscape: it is in a constant state of flux, and businesses that want to stay competitive must be willing to adapt to new realities as they emerge.
Being an industry-leading Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, Nivida Web Solutions has seen this transformation firsthand. By deftly incorporating these developments into our projects, we not only stand ready to take advantage of these tendencies, but we also intend to establish new standards in web construction. Our inspiration comes from our customers' ideas, and we build each website with the goal of going above and beyond their wildest dreams.
Our commitment to quality and originality remains firm even as the environment around us changes. We hope you'll join us on this exciting adventure into the future. Working together, we can fully realise the advantages of PWAs, voice search, augmented and virtual reality, web accessibility, and more. Together, we have the opportunity to create a vision for the future of digital culture that doesn't merely reflect current fashions but rather pushes the envelope. Nivida Web Solutions is where website creation is headed in the future.

like, there's drag-and-drop site creation tools like wix and squarespace, but I wouldn't call those automated (and to get good results you'll probably have to write some code anyway, at which point you should just use another tool lol)... there's one million content management systems but those are generally neither javascript-based nor automated and wrangling a CMS is a job in itself... there's also a million static site generators and a lot of those are javascript-based but there's others that use python (sphinx) or ruby (jekyll) instead and knowing HTML and CSS are imperative for pretty much any of them. if what you're really lamenting is how you can't really do serious web development anymore with "just" HTML/CSS knowledge then like, fair enough, but from my understanding it's kind of expected that developers are gonna have to pick up new languages over time...

Latest Trends In Web Development For 2024
With 2024 in the picture, a lot of shifts and advancements are expected as far as web development is concerned. Considering the rapid evolution of the trends, developers must keep themselves updated with the latest trends and technologies in order to stay competitive. In this post, we have compiled a list of Web Development Trends for 2024.
Are you excited to embrace the Latest Web Development Technologies that are going to dominate the trend?
Front-End Development Trends
Front-end development knows no bounds when it comes to innovation. We know how much a developer loves using new frameworks. JavaScript Frameworks in 2024 will continue to lead like React.js, Angular, and Vue.js. They are sure to enhance the developer experience and performance.
Progressive Web Apps (PWA)
Another one to dominate the trend. It strikes just the right balance between a mobile app and the web while giving an app-like experience to users on the web. PWAs have faster loading time and can be operated even offline, thus ensuring a seamless experience.
Single-Page Applications
Unlike traditional multi-page applications, SPAs rewrite a page with new content whenever there is an interaction from end users. The user experiences provided by them are responsive, smooth, and faster. SPAs secure their spot too in the list of trendmakers for 2024.
Motion UI
A revolutionary trend of front-end development, Motion UI design is a unique approach that elevates UX standards in web apps with the help of transitions and animations, ensuring better user engagement.
Dark Mode UI
It has recently gained popularity globally and is amongst UX Design Trends for 2024. Regardless of the device, users can access dark-themed sites which aren’t heavy on the eyes since they need less brightness. It also gives a rather ‘stylish’ appearance to the websites.
API-First Design
In this approach, APIs are given priority and treated like a foundation on which the applications are built. Adopting an API-first design would offer numerous benefits like flexibility, scalability, and enhanced collaboration.
Voice Search Optimization
With a surge in voice surges in the year 2023, no doubt this will just get bigger and better and more in use. In order to ensure an optimal user experience and easy accessibility, it has become a necessity to optimize websites for voice search.
Blockchain Technology
Blockchain Technology in Web Development has already proved itself to be revolutionary. With a secure and decentralized framework, it offers transparency and enhanced security features.
Headless CMS
Headless CMS is set to overshadow traditional CMSs like WordPress. Headless CMS allows content management at a single place and to deploy that content on your choice of digital channel.
Responsive Design
Now that there are varying screen sizes available out there, responsive design ensures that the website looks good on all platforms. Instead of building different versions of websites for different devices, it lets a developer make one adaptive website all at once.
Microservices Architecture
Unlike a monolithic application, microservices breaks down an application into loosely coupled services. Each microservice performs a specific business function and can be independently developed, deployed, or scaled.
Low-Code/No-Code Development
This will surely be a trendsetter since it provides ease to users who want to create web applications, without having any expertise in programming. It has a set of drag-and-drop tools and a visual interface which makes it easy to build a tech product.
Static Site Generators
Their ability to produce fast, scalable and secure websites is making static site generators a popular choice. They not only improve the performance but also lessen the need for server-side processing since it is simpler to manage. Their speed and ease of use make them a popular choice amongst developers.
Cloud-Native Applications
These applications are designed specifically for cloud computing architecture. They use microservices architecture, thus making them more cost-efficient, scalable and flexible.
Web Performance Optimization
Considering the online competition everywhere, web performance optimization is something that will not go out of the trend. Improving the speed of a website enhances user experience and increases conversions as well. It is one critical factor that cannot be missed.
All the above-mentioned trends are crucial from a developer’s perspective and following them will definitely fetch amazing results.
If you wish to implement any of these or require assistance regarding the same, then get in touch with us. Let’s try to be a step ahead in this era of rapidly evolving trends.

So, here’s the thing. I’ve always had ideas for a massive CMS that would be the back-end engine for a whole bunch of Prince sites.
For instance, a wiki-like site along the lines of PrinceVault, but one that would combine its dry information with more personal content, e.g. a concert entry would link to someone’s personal report of said concert. But not just that, it would also allow its database-origins to use the same information in different ways, e.g. you could generate a grid that would show the tracklists of a tour and how those evolved (much like Uptown used to publish back in the day). Or you could go to an entry of a song and then click through an exhaustive list of every concert that song was ever performed at.
There would also be a “library” of articles: interviews, reviews, press releases, podcasts,... Of course that would be a copyrights nightmare, and thus this library would actually link to the original source instead of merely presenting its text. Full disclosure: this is in fact inspired by Warren Mason’s The Vault: a site from the mid-/late-1990s that contained the contents of numerous newspaper and magazine articles about Prince. It was a great resource, but unfortunately it went offline in the early 2000s (perhaps even late-1990s).
This library would also be used to generate news entries -- mind you, this part of the CMS is still vague and undefined, undoubtedly this is something that would have massively evolved over time.
Of course I never built this, because merely the effort of designing and implementing such a site would be massive, and not something I could ever do alone. And the costs of hosting it would be high.
But some years ago I learned about Github Pages, which would certainly help with the latter problem. Of course, it would mean a static site, but that could still be a valuable resource. I decided to build a management site in ASP.NET MVC where I could enter all the relevant information about articles I would find online (title, contents, author, source, publication date), which then could be used to generate Markdown files per category (publication, topic, author, date), which then could be used by Github pages to be generated into a static site.
I actually built this. It is basically a POC (= proof of concept) and very flawed, but it worked. I entered the details of about 1500 different articles, generated the Markdown files, uploaded them to Github... and then saw Github pages’ site generator choke on the volume of pages and links within those pages. And thus I abandoned it.
Then some weeks ago I learned about Microsoft’s Docfx, which could take Markdown files and generate a static file. I was very skeptical, but I decided to experiment with it... and was immensely impressed. In mere seconds Docfx generated the whole site, and even when I included all the topics as links with each article entry it had no problem. Plus there was a search!
The result of this: https://bjmdotnet.github.io/pr1nc3/ . Granted, it looks extremely basic, but I’m not gonna waste much time and effort on beautifying it. Especially not when it is still lacking so much data, i.e. all those articles from the past three years or so that I didn’t put into the system.
In an ideal world I would have started work on this years or even decades ago, and by now this project would have evolved into a massive array of interlocked Prince-sites, each with their own purpose, with me and others getting paid through income from a Patreon or something similar. But that ain’t gonna happen, so this is what it is. Perhaps I’ll manage to find ways to automate the data entry for the system, but it’s not like I’m gonna spend much time and effort on that.

Leverage Browser Caching: Browser caching allows you to store certain elements of your website, such as images, CSS, and JavaScript files, in a user’s browser cache. This way, when a user revisits your site, the browser doesn’t have to download those files again, resulting in faster load times. You can enable browser caching by setting appropriate HTTP headers or using caching plugins for your content management system (CMS).
Use Content Delivery Networks (CDNs): CDNs store copies of your website’s static files (such as images, CSS, and JavaScript) on servers distributed globally. When a user accesses your website, the CDN serves the content from the server closest to their location, reducing the latency and improving load times. Popular CDNs include Cloudflare, Amazon CloudFront, and Akamai.
Optimize Code and Database Queries: Well-optimized code and efficient database queries can significantly impact your website’s performance. Eliminate unnecessary code, reduce the number of HTTP requests, and optimize your database queries to ensure faster execution. Utilize tools like GTmetrix, Google PageSpeed Insights, or Pingdom to identify areas of improvement.
Choose a Reliable Web Hosting Provider: The quality and performance of your web hosting provider can influence your website’s load times. Select a reputable hosting provider that offers high-speed servers, solid-state drives (SSDs), and robust infrastructure to ensure faster data retrieval.
By implementing these strategies, you can enhance your website’s load times, providing users with a smoother browsing experience. Remember that continuous monitoring and optimization are essential to maintain optimal performance as your website grows and evolves in the sense you need to take web development services in Pune.
Engaging and Readable Content :
Engaging and readable content is a crucial aspect of improving your website’s user experience. It not only captures visitors’ attention but also provides them with valuable information and encourages them to stay longer on your site. When creating content, keep in mind the following strategies to enhance user experience, while also considering the expertise of a top web development company in Pune or a top development company.
Understand Your Target Audience: Before creating content, it’s important to have a deep understanding of your target audience. Research their preferences, needs, and pain points. This knowledge will help you tailor your content to their interests and make it more engaging and relevant.
Use Clear and Concise Headings: Headings play a crucial role in grabbing users’ attention and guiding them through your content. Use descriptive and concise headings to break up your content into easily scannable sections. This makes it easier for users to find the information they’re looking for and encourages them to continue reading.
Write in Plain Language: Avoid using jargon or complex language that may confuse or alienate your audience. Write in a clear and concise manner, using simple language that is easy to understand. This helps users grasp the key messages and concepts quickly, improving their overall experience on your website.
Utilize Visual Elements: Incorporating visual elements, such as images, videos, infographics, and charts, can significantly enhance the readability and engagement of your content. Visuals help break up the text, make it more visually appealing, and provide additional context or explanations. Ensure that the visual elements you use are relevant, high-quality, and properly optimized for web viewing.
Incorporate Calls-to-Action (CTAs): To encourage user engagement and guide visitors through your website, include clear and compelling calls-to-action. CTAs prompt users to take specific actions, such as signing up for a newsletter, downloading a resource, or making a purchase. Place CTAs strategically within your content to guide users toward the desired conversion points.
Provide Valuable and Relevant Information: Users visit your website seeking information, so it’s crucial to provide valuable and relevant content with the help of a top web development company in Pune. Conduct thorough research, offer unique insights, and present information in a well-structured manner. This builds trust and establishes your website as a credible source of information.
Optimize for Readability: Pay attention to the formatting and layout of your content to ensure readability. Use short paragraphs, bullet points, and subheadings to break up the text and make it easier to scan. Additionally, choose a legible font, appropriate font size, and contrast between text and background to improve readability.
Proofread and Edit: Poor grammar, spelling mistakes, and formatting errors can negatively impact user experience and undermine the credibility of your website. Take the time to proofread and edit your content before publishing it. Consider enlisting the help of professional editors or proofreaders to ensure accuracy and quality.

Minimize the number of form fields and make them easy to fill out. Provide clear instructions and error messages to guide users through the conversion process.
Implement trust elements, such as security badges, customer reviews, and testimonials, to instill confidence in your visitors and increase conversion rates. Professional web development services in Pune can help optimize your website’s conversion process and make it user-friendly.
Conclusion :
Enhancing your website’s user experience is a continuous process that requires attention to detail and a user-centric approach. Note
In light of recent events, do you know of any good alternatives to wordpress? I've wanted to use it for a while but I don't want to support the ceo at this point because of how he's acting. I get that he felt threatened but he shouldn't have overreacted.
personally i use a static site generator and am not super fond of CMSes for most of my stuff, but ghost cms is pretty good and way more modern in design and lower maintenance
