Best part of the whole show is the fact that no one died. Y’all can stay over there crying about the frailty of life and the pain of overcoming loss and I’m gonna stay over here with my decapitated robot, his pet thing, and a smoothie

The way he stopped himself... I am absolutely positive that he was about to say "That's not true."
Either he or someone he cared about -- I'm thinking his mother -- was abandoned by the Jedi in the past. Left to die, left to fend for themselves. Maybe when Order 66 came down, a Jedi had to make a choice and decided to escape rather than to save Jod or Ninaa... or maybe Jod just thinks that was what happened. Maybe he (or she or they) were waiting for a rescue that never came.

the way jod was playing with the saber there’s no way he’s used one before: not enough to be a lost jedi

Ok idea if Jod gets a redemption I’d want it like this. maybe now that everything in his life is pretty much over, his crew gone and if he gets away he’s on the lam. maybe having to face the harsh memory of what happened to his Jedi master awakens something in him again. Something small but aching in his chest
He remebers some the the now destroyed temples she took him to where no one else seemed to exist. At first he hides out there, he’ll need a place to rebuild his life, then maybe he lets himself into the force. He couldn’t even use it against the kids and their parents all at once he’s obviously hasn’t had enough training. He’s frustrated at first, only being able to go off memories of his masters teachings, which in turn floods his mind with painful memories making it even harder to connect to the force.
But he remembers what she’d tell him all those times he couldn’t sit still during meditation, when the pain he’s had forever would fester during study. “Let go” she’d tell him “just let go, let the force guide you.” So he finally tries, he’s no pro but he finally got that blasted boulder he’s been trying to move for weeks to rise.
He wishes she was there to see his progress, he wish she was there so he could apologize for wasting whatever “potential” she ever saw in him. He remembers something else she would say but he never understood “there is no death, there is only the force” he never believed that, he’d seen enough death since he was born to know that death was very much real. But, sitting still by the clear stream of the ruined temple he finds himself speaking to her, saying everything he wishes he could tell her. Confessing all the pain he’s caused not only to himself but seemingly everyone he’s ever came in contact with, including her. Maybe if she picked a stronger padawan they could’ve saved her.
And after months upon months falling into years, one day while he meditates he sees a soft blue glow past his eyelids, and hears the gentle voice he had only remembered in dreams

Episode 5 made brilliant use of the way an adult can be incredibly scary to children just by virtue of being adult-sized, in a way that feels really rare for SW. Like the kids' show version of the Andor heart attack.

(Subtitle text below the cut)
[🎵somber music playing]
Fern: [softly] Yeah, the galaxy is scary and dangerous.
Fern: [inhales sharply] Everywhere we went, even the worst places, there were good people, too.

First Thoughts and Impressions on 'Skeleton Crew'
**Contains minor and/or vague spoilers for the two-episode premiere.**
I can honestly say: was definitely not expecting our main cast of characters to be children. Probably would have known that had I looked at any of the promotional material beforehand, but sometimes I love going in as blind as I possibly can.
This being another installment in the era of the New Republic, I'm curious to see where things go because it's sandwiched somewhere between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Believe I saw it was roughly around 9 ABY (After Battle of Yavin) on the SW timeline. Same sort of "neighborhood" in terms of time with shows like Mando, TBoBF and Ahsoka.
There are already a few things that feel "weird" about the series right now, but seeing as we're only two out of eight episodes in I'm going to hold off on saying anything as to whether I think it's good or bad until we know more.
Already find most of the characters fairly likeable. (Not sure how I feel about Fern just yet, but I do like how gutsy she is at least!) The droid, SM-33, that they find on the ship could easily end up being one of my favorites by the end. I already like Neel a lot, too. Be curious to learn what his species is since he's not Ortolan (think Max Reebo); just looks rather similar in a couple of ways.
Also curious to learn what all the business with At Attin is about, too!
Call themselves part of the New Republic, but Wim's "lunch money" is gold Republic credits? Multiple characters saying it's illegal to go in or out of the Barrier without permission? All those pirates in Brogo Port calling it a mythical/lost planet full of treasure? Smells like we're getting a "planet has been closed off from the rest of the galaxy for a Very Big reason" storyline!
All and all feeling good about the start of the series, and I'm already looking forward to a new episode next week.

Ok NEW ADDED skeleton crew theory: because at attin is the only peaceful planet left, the old pirate is trying to protect the people by hiding it from everyone and the treasure is peace and happiness and love and rainbows and unicorns and the friends we make along the way! this is why sm33 was ordered not to remember it and kill anyone who tries. but it backfired when sm33 watched the captain try and go for the treasure himself when they landed and he killed him (hence his skeleton on the ship). idk if any of that made sense.
ok skeleton crew theory: at attin is completely ran by the robots waiting for signal from the outside that it’s safe for the planet to be unhidden but the communications never received. the great work is just keeping the planet running and busy work to keep citizens in line.

Skeleton Crew Spoilers but ok!
Very open ending, what happens to Jod? Idk
He’s like this not totally evil antagonist, says he doesn’t want to hurt anyone and so far has only killed droids and his arch nemesis, and uses the threat of violence to get what he wants
Also he was around for order 66 and watched his master be killed, who was she? Idk but then the end credits art is all like clips of his backstory?? Like if he wasn’t important in another way they wouldn’t show that idk. Maybe we’ll get another season, I hope so
Also his last scene watching his crew be shot down, the last people and goal he’s dedicated himself to, just being destroyed right in front of him. Serves you right bitch but baby pls go find happiness the right way
Also yes 33 lives and gets to be with his kids. Season 2 HAS to start with 33 just living in Fern and Fara’s house

No, but what's really funny about Star Wars Skeleton Crew is, these kids who live within Star Wars:
1. Have never seen stars, and
2. Don't know about wars (or at least not the war against the Galactic Empire that started the whole franchise)
So they're Star Wars kids.... who know neither stars nor wars. Which feels wrong, but is actually hilarious.

It's gotta be a set-up, right?
If Jude Law Nawood could do that, why couldn't he have done that before and escaped? Hmmm... Probably because he didn't have a ship and scared, gullible kids. He's giving me Qimir without the T&A.
I haven't trusted Jude Law since Captain Marvel. Actually, maybe even before, when he cheated with the nanny idk lol

"Yeah, the galaxy is scary and dangerous, but… everywhere we went, even the worst places, there were good people, too." WHAT A GOOD STAR WARS LINE. The galaxy should be a scary and dangerous place, but ultimately about hope and the light that exists in it. Even if it's just a pinprick of light, a single flame against a galaxy of darkness, that goodness matters. That hope in a terrible time and place matters. Skeleton Crew was a series that was very much Goonies In Space and it stuck to that feeling, but it didn't forget that Star Wars is a story about hope and kindness and caring about other people, even when it's not beneficial to you personally. The people who helped those kids, not because they were personally invested in them, but simply because they cared about other people, that is what the underlying message of a Star Wars show should be about. Skeleton Crew understood the Star Wars assignment.
