-so I like to create things that I can’t find myself.
I repurpose milk bottles for reuse in the kitchen + had the idea to create vinyl stickers to relabel them in Star Wars/clone lifestyle. I love the coruscant night life + Star Wars prop aesthetic details. I wanted to share the progress on them. I do plan to mix and match the top row with the bottom row; the drinks read from left to right:
[Coruscant GAR, drink, rations, kamino rations, kaminoan emblem, 79’s logo]

Can I just talk about Leia’s lightsaber? For probably a long time..
First, I want to say aesthetically she’s gorgeous. She’s so unique. She’s so sleek. She looks like a Jedi masterpiece.
But goddamn does she suck to use.
So to start from the top, we see this beautiful legacy through Leia’s saber. We have the thin neck and rings calling back to Obi-Wan/Luke’s second saber and the vertical grips calling back to Anakin/Luke/the “Skywalker saber”. And we’re told it’s made of silver and copper with mother of pearl?! which just screams Padmé and Breha to me. I love how certain details of a character’s lineage pass through their sabers. Just beautiful.
And obviously because I love Leia and her lightsaber is beautiful I bought one of these but specifically to use, not to display. And oh boy. The amount of blood I have spilled on this saber is terrible, and no I don’t mean hurting someone else. This is my own literal actual blood from getting sliced and diced by this hilt.
Because those vertical grips are the worst ever idea to put on a handheld weapon. The reason they worked on Anakin’s is because they’re straight and thick and chunky and, most importantly, blunt. The whole feminizing sleek-ifying thing they did with Leia’s - while stunning - renders it useless because the grip is curved and those edges and corners are all hard and sharp. One slip, and it will slice your hand. Not to mention just all over make it uncomfortable to use.
And this is one of those beautifully deep things Star Wars has just stumbled into creating because I don’t think it was ever intended or thought about much more than making a pretty prop.
But it is absolutely poetic that Leia’s lightsaber, representing her journey into the Force, is genuinely something that causes her pain despite bringing her closer to her family. Her entire history with the Force is written into this one tool, which she built with her own hands, and yet wielding this tool is only going to harm her and lead her down a painful and treacherous path that no amount of skill or care can save her from. And for her then to walk away from this because it is too difficult to bear or because her family was telling her that her role is elsewhere in a field that she loves that loves her back is just the most perfectly illustrated piece of Leia’s story.
In short, I absolutely hate this lightsaber, but because of that, I absolutely love the story it tells.

I really like the look of TOS aesthetically, and I think that it can still work today without needing a SNW style update. Star Wars still uses it's big bulky props appropriate for each era, and games like Star trek online have had a great time fleshing out designs of the era and up until the Discovery/SNW reboot for visuals the era was always depicted "screen accurate" in shows like TNG and DS9

Hey ho, have you seen The Creator (2023) yet? Unsubtly about US imperialism, but also really moving, aesthetically stunning (Greig Fraser as DP, oh yeah) and John David Washington killing it in the main role. I was surprised by how much there was to love. xoxo
I fucking LOVED The Creator and kept trying to write something about it here but never managed to collect my thoughts. But yeah what a fucking movie, oh my god. I feel like it kind of got buried by lack of publicity but tbh I am not that surprised because it's one of those movies with politics that make you think how the fuck did they get away with making this.
Gareth Edwards, like Villeneuve, is a director I've been paying attention to for a while now, ever since his 2010 movie Monsters, which was a really impressive low-budget sci-fi with effects that just looked seamless and interesting things to say about borders and the human cost of militarized responses to disastrous events.
And then he did Rogue One and pulled off something very impressive, which is to take one of the most famous sci-fi weapons of our era--the Death Star, a metaphor for nuclear weapons so iconic it has become a symbol in itself--and made it actually fucking scary for the first time in the history of the franchise. And he did it by turning the camera around.
Because the thing is that before this point, we had only ever seen the Death Star from the point of view of the people firing it. The idea of a planet-destroying weapon is intellectually horrifying but we didn't really ever feel it. Because for that we need to see the weapon from the point of view of its victims. It's such a simple but radical shift in perspective, and I feel like Gareth Edwards took that idea from Rogue One and then made it into a whole movie with The Creator.
The Creator, for those unfamiliar with the premise, is about a near-future counterinsurgency war in which the US military is hunting down various forms of AI/android/robot beings. It also features a space-based super-weapon that is eerily beautiful but goddamn fucking terrifying. It was mostly shot in southeast Asia and heavily evokes Vietnam War imagery (as the ending of Rogue One did as well); it is probably about as close to "Vietnam War movie but you're rooting for the Vietnamese" as it is possible to make in the American studio system. The protagonist is still an American soldier (who defects and "goes native" fairly early in the movie) but making him a Black disabled veteran was certainly a Choice. And yes it's John David Washington and he's great in it.
It feels facetious to say The Creator is Reverse Terminator, because it's much richer than that, but it's also kind of fucking true. For the entire movie, the characters are just running for their lives from the implacable and overwhelming destructive force of the US military which is just crushing everything in its path.
The movie does a lot of things that you simply do not see in most American war movies, but the one that stands out to me the most is that in every scene of war violence there are civilians, including children, fucking everywhere. It really threw into relief for me how often American war-action movies create these empty video game environments for soldiers to run around in, where any actual people who might live in the place where the war is happening are at best props and at worst completely absent. (Alex Garland's Civil War, in addition to being terrible in every other conceivable way, is a particularly bad offender at this.) The Creator does what really should be the bare minimum of taking time to showing that these are people whose homes and lives are being destroyed and it is shocking how novel it seems. (There's a line that plays in my head all the time where one of the AI characters says something to the effect of, "Do you know what will happen to the humans when we win this war? Nothing. We simply want to live.") I will also say that this made it a very intense watch in late October 2023 in particular, but it is fiction so we get a very satisfying and cathartic ending. And yes it is an absolutely gorgeous movie, the VFX are mind-blowing, and I found it quite moving.

a lil intro for moon-and-seraph's words into potions event this march! definitely check it out if you can; they've put so much work into making such a cute, motivating challenge for us!
WILT AND BLOOM .
GENRE・Fantasy (specifically, second world urban fantasy) WARNINGS・Body horror and plant-related body horror, mild gore, physical/emotional abuse, implied/fade-to-black sexual abuse, violence, torture, nonconsensual experimentation, abductions/kidnapping.
SUMMARY・Sworn to serve the Blooming Court and its fickle blossom-queen, Alejandro has resigned himself to an eternity ensnared in the treachery of fae lords and their patronage contracts—binding agreements drawn in blood, and in the flowers that sprout from his bones each spring. But everything changes when he rescues a girl cursed to die as a star.
First, Alejandro must accept the help of a traitor. Then, the manhunt to bring in a heart-eating Oathbreaker wreaks havoc on the centennial Ascendancy, uprooting all his attempts to save Genevieve. To make matters worse, the embers of an ancient war are flaring back to life: the Blooming Queen and her Withering half-sister have been battling for centuries, the magic of the land sickens with the pollutants of the modern age, and investigating the curse reveals a deadly truth that leads to more questions than answers.
As Genevieve grows weaker, it all comes down to Alejandro to put an end to a battle between the forces of life and death and wilt and bloom—a battle that may just be the end of the world as he knows it.
[aesthetics + court info under the cut]
COLOR PALETTE .
The Blooming Queen’s hair as it is when the story starts: a rotting, brown-sweetened gold, like a bruised persimmon, pale orange undertones mottled with the hues of overripe peach flesh.
All the reds of an autumn forest, but especially the deep, bloody reds that certain trees produce—crimson with a cool tinge to it, a violet-indigo like shadows blooming at twilight.
The dry, wilted brown of fallen leaves; the papery chestnut of dying grass; the goldenrod that adorns fields in sways and swirls until first frost.
Dusk-light that pours like honey, a sighed warmth that pools into all the places where you have gone hollow.
The depthless dark of the Withering Queen’s eyes, like earth black with everything once-bloomed and dying; the burnished gleam of the wilt-prince’s eyes, dark like his mother’s until the light hits right. Then, they’re veined in the softness of mercy.
The orange ember-brilliance of Tselvya’s flames, of Genevieve’s hair, of chrysanthemums and marigolds throwing flamboyant blooms into the slow subside of midsummer sunshine.
THE BLOOMING COURT .
Butterflies and moths and beetles have domain over this land, where the flowers are bright and the berries overripe, sweet and heady and repugnant. The Blooming Queen dotes upon them, and they grow larger than they have any right to be.
The fae sworn to the blossom-queen adorn themselves in red, red jewels and red flowers and red life, carnage bloodied down the tips of sharp teeth and talon-pointed nails. They pluck the eyeballs out of freshly slaughtered game and feast on fruit bruised to the point of bursting, and all the flowers they touch bloom big and bright and radiant, incandescent—almost frighteningly alive.
Death will always be much too slow to come, here where life rots to the very core.
THE WITHERING THRONE .
The wilt-queen rules from a throne of bones and moonflowers, and her flesh is so brittle that she appears to be no more than a dead body propped up in a borrowed imitation of life. A single touch of her finger leaves spiderwebs of pale mold behind, dozens of white moths fluttering about her shoulders and settling atop the crown of fresh roses adorning her hair. As the moon rises and falls and rises again, the moths drop all around her, and the roses lose their bright sweetness, rotting into a slow, violet-brown mass, until the Withering Queen is draped in nothing but corpses.
The wilt-queen offers her white-clad followers all manner of delicacies over the course of their midnight banquets, and she eagerly partakes in the festivities herself, her dainty corpse-mouth red with the hearts of small, dead creatures. She caresses bony fingers—spindly like the stems of wilted flowers—down the edges of dewy blossoms and trapped prey animals before she drains all the life out of them, her face going from dead-eyed translucence to pink and flushed in the space between one exhale and the next.
Birds and insects and rodents die at the hands of the Withering Throne, laid to rest in the soil, and the Withering Queen feasts. She feasts.

i do NOT want live action voltron. like ik the show got ruined in the last 2 seasons (which i am still very much upset abt) but i feel as if a show won’t be able to capture the characters looks, just because i’ve had this version of the characters for so long that i can’t imagine them any other way. plus, i don’t think live action will be able to capture the whole outer space vibe as well, and im scared they’ll just try to make a modern star wars aesthetic or something.
if they DO make live action, however, they better fix the last episodes because if klance doesn’t become canon then they WILL be hearing from my lawyers
same i feel like no cast will look like how i see the characters, so it wont feel like them. (especially not if theyre changing stuff in the story too.)
and i dont think the sets and props and costumes and stuff will be that good, because most movies and shows honestly dont have that good stuff. what i like about it being animated is that they can do anything because its drawn and it doesnt have to work irl or anything.
even if they make one im not watching it. i dont get the hype about live actions of animated shows. cant they mane new stories sometimes? get inspired, dont just change it.
about the ending of voltron. everyone thinks it sucks but tbh i dont even care. yes i would like klance to canon but to me its an open ending and ive personally just interpreted it as klance being canon after the shows end. and it sucks that allura died but oh well, tbh personally its okay.
the whole last sesson sorta confused me too. i didnt like shiros new arm. i wish adam hadnt died or that we actually got to know shiros new man a bit better, idk maybe i didnt pay attention.
anyway i dont think the ending was That bad. it just was.
sure lance was a farmer and yes he wanted to be a pilot but guys he literally got to be one and he was in war and he died and idk maybe that changed his mind a little bit?? maybe he wanted a break. his gf just died, cut him some slack, the poor guy is tired.
but yeah tldr i just dont think theyll be able to make a show that feels the same and i dont think it’ll be good.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who liked or reblogged something from you! Get to know your mutuals and followers :)
…This is gonna make a total of 15 but oh BOY
This was mentioned in a previous ask before but singing a whole cover of ‘Rainbow Connection’ I did with friends joining me on the last third of it. It makes it extra special and I want to post it on here, but I’d rather ask the friend who I’d made this for, with posting permissions first.
Honestly? My silly little neopixel lightsaber I’ve (unwisely, in my mother’s opinion) bought at a recent con. It lights up, it makes noises, I can change the blade colour bc of the light, it’s so far everything I’ve wanted in a cheeky laser sword prop.
On a related note, my silly little sword collection! A LARP foam sword, a wooden katana, and even a steel replica of Sting, also from that same con over a few years!
Fashion! Me from 10 years ago being on this hellsite for the first year would never believe it, but growing and defining my own sense of style and aesthetics over time has not only been fun, but I *feel* happier too. I know what I like and what I don’t, and I’m still learning!
The very fact that I was blessed to go to the uni I did. Sure, the culture is different there compared to of course, my old high school and bible college, but I loved what I studied (more rather than less!) and I’m still in touch with people I’m honoured to call friends. To think some of those cool people live near or in the same city as me!
Not to be simple, but, music! I’ve been getting back into some of my favourite songs and remixes from The Living Tombstone as one point, (Long Time Friends you angy catharsis tune), but also listening to playlists I’ve curated for OCs and Stories and even shared songs with me and my friends over on Spotify has been fun!
Travel!!!! I didn’t know how much I’ve missed travel until my Singapore trip earlier this year - I missed boarding planes, taking off and landing, I missed going out to places like malls and cafes and food and friends outside of my own country. I missed the new sights to see and the good vibes to encounter when you look in the right places. And having my first taste of independent sightseeing at the botanical gardens felt like something new was set in stone.
As of recent, RP has been somewhat active between me and a couple buddies on discord. To the Chrumblr RP gang and Star Wars discord RP server: I love you and I'm grateful you allow me to bring plorbo from my brain into Situations with the characters you play!!!
Painting!!! I haven't touched it in a bit since I've been busy with other things, but I adore, ADORE watercolour and gouache painting. It brings me joy to mix colours and use my palettes to bring characters and situations to life, and I even have a whole sketchbook from 2022-2023 dedicated to just paintings. Sketchy paintings, refined ones - the only goal was to PAINT.
The crochet sunflowers I bought last year! I've got a tiny potted one on my study's windowsill with a broken Miles Morales Spidey keychain, and a longer simpler one in a glass bottle in my bedroom. I really wanna get more crochet flowers, but they were from this one random stall that set itself up like, twice overall at uni last year. That being said, I adore them.
From the same con I got my lightsaber on, I got lucky to buy a print poster of A New Hope from Lucasfilms artist Mark Raats direct. I'm not kidding, and we even had a chat and I did a little 'handy-dandy-notebook' portrait of him in line, even getting to airdrop that to him! Best bit, the poster was $30 on INCREDIBLY archival paper. I just need to get a frame for it...
Just recently, I'd gotten a haircut for the dry ends and long, thick fringe; and can I say??? I love my hairdresser? She's a really sweet Japanese lady who came from just outside Osaka and she's out here in my city doing the best and she once cut my fringe to my standards SO quickly than other hairdressers - I was stunned! I'm deeply grateful to have her work on my hair, and I could not thank her enough.
This is a bit silly somewhat to me, but I love the brown messenger bag I'd bought for myself end of last year as a treat to myself for finishing honours. Did the side strap holders snap twice? Yes. Do I care? no. I love this thing, it feels so *right* for adventure and it brings me so much joy.
Something that makes me smile if I glance at it in my study is my shelf of books. Not sketchbooks, not notebooks that have been filled (though I am proud of that too!), just proper books. From comics to 'Tales from the Loop' and cabin architecture and treehouses, and recently a couple Star Wars visual dictionaries from Pablo Hidalgo... I'm gonna need more space soon. (Shoutout to the copy of Farenheit 451 that legit made me scream and kick my feet because BRADBURY.)
Honestly? Just… friends. Online, real life - if I think about you too hard, I’ll cry. I’m blessed to have met friends online In Real Life (looking at you Swift and uni mates!), and blessed to have mailed and wrote and created silly little things to share my love with ‘em. Good are the ones that stick with you. 💙 Get loved, nerds.

🃏6op. 6os. 6ow. the lovers. justice. ideation. comfort. fear.
the sexual dynamic between the both of y’all feels safe and comforting, it’ll be gentle and adoring despite passion’s intensity. bedroom pleasure is soft, very baby or vanilla ice cream—sweet but not overwhelmingly. y’all leave the impression of doing for each other instead of simply just doing, there’s appreciation over the bond before and above everything else. actions that apply to this sentiment could be fluffing pillows for a better prop up, massaging shoulders or feet, whispering love affirmations, washing each other’s bodies after etc. self care is a ritual when it comes to sexual regime, but with the number 6 (virgo’s house in astro, schedule and routine) being prominent in the cards y’all could practice self care religiously.
y’all will spoil each other for sure, the 6op indicates that this connection will include balance or give and receive. very libra energy, the scales are even when it comes to y’all’s happiness and pleasure together (ideation in this sense). this can symbolize shopping for sex toys together, suggesting new positions for both partners (think 69), deciding to spend longer in bed for another round, etc. because i sense saturn’s presence a bit im guessing that this type of solidification was earned. there’s restriction around either intimacy or relationships, maybe love in general? it’s even possible all three could’ve caused a delay in having sex, or at least withheld it longer than intended. the fear card represents that, but it seems to heal whenever y’all are together.

drink number eight is my favorite and this is exactly why lmao. before i even started writing, “come run your hands through my hair” and “that’s why it’s there” was a constant. these are lyrics from ariana grande’s song “my hair” and this translates into someone being a ‘lip bite, finger plunge into their scalp to keep from screaming’ person—on the occasion it’ll be yours too. it keeps them from acting clinically insane, i even heard “outrageous”. tossing their head backwards with a stifled moan, or blowing out tufts (tufts) of air before pulling their lip into their mouth. this fs is someone that tends to present themselves as grounded even if they actually aren’t, they’re not a fan of the vulnerable or weak state at all. it’s the same when it comes to sex, if not stronger, so an idgaf war is bound to happen (they’ll lose drastically).
animated or expressive faces are here, but with a piscean nature to them (emotional, deep thought). them being in pleasure is the literal textbook definition of being in awe, just add knitted brows and a slack jaw instead. their pupils will be blown as well, half-lidded and fucked to pieces because “wow”—it’s resemblant of a puppy’s, when they’re either shining with sadness or gleaming with excitement. 8op here, this person has a (specific) quirk that they’ll act on to keep from releasing early. for example, there’s this p-star that i (used to) watch and his restraint tactic was biting the side of his finger so he wouldn’t cum. your partner has that same habit, except it’ll be during a certain act (oral, kissing, foreplay etc). this person is prob sensitive hence the need to retain composure.
with the tower being a major arcana card (catalysts, major events in life), this fs will always have a buildup of emotions when they’re experiencing gratification. “getting worked on” came in, this could def point to them receiving head especially since i mentioned that they’re prone to sensitivity (could be down there specifically). this also means explosive orgasms or “big” finishers, moments that’ll leave them shaking or clenching. “tumultuous.” it starts off quiet then ends off loud, or strong in their case. it’s literally reminiscent of an actual tower falling, the slow crumble before it comes crashing down.

Jerry Anderson: Thunderbirds
Research + discuss:
Everything on both Tracy and Mateo Islands was constructed from the ground up and to the highest of Jeff's exacting standards. Inside and out, the natural and man-made structures have the ability to switch appearances with the touch of a button.
youtube
Miniature models have been employed in the film industry for several decades as an aesthetically captivating method of crafting sets and props. The intricate details captured in these models showcase the distinctive design of each building and structure, as evident in notable films such as Star Wars, Blade Runner and 2049, Jurassic Park, The Lord of the Rings, Inception, Harry Potter, Dunkirk, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
youtube
All the sets were meticulously crafted as scale models of either the third or fourth iteration to ensure visual fidelity. Certain elements, such as water and fire, were not scaled due to their inherent limitations. The director favours traditional techniques, while his counterpart utilizes miniatures in every scene to achieve a realistic cinematic experience.

REBLOG: FILM: YOUNG FRNKENSTEIN SHORT (1974)-SHORT-FILM: FURUTRISTIC SCI-FI ABOUT PEACE AND WAR
Young Frankenstein is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks. The screenplay was co-written by Brooks and Gene Wilder. Wilder also starred in the lead role as the title character, a descendant of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
The film is a parody of the classic horror film genre, in particular the various film adaptations of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus produced by Universal Pictures in the 1930s. Much of the lab equipment used as props was created by Kenneth Strickfaden for the 1931 film Frankenstein. To help evoke the atmosphere of the earlier films, Brooks shot the picture entirely in black and white, a rarity in the 1970s, and employed 1930s-style opening credits and scene transitions such as iris outs, wipes, and fades to black. The film also features a period score by Brooks' longtime composer John Morris.

Young Frankenstein - Wikipedia Young Frankenstein (1974) - IMDb 8'0
A critical and commercial success, Young Frankenstein ranks No. 28 on Total Film magazine's readers' "List of the 50 Greatest Comedy Films of All Time", No. 56 on Bravo's list of the "100 Funniest Movies", and No. 13 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 funniest American movies. In 2003, it was deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the United States National Film Preservation Board, and selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. It was later adapted by Brooks and Thomas Meehan as a stage musical. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Adapted Screenplay (for Wilder and Brooks) and Best Sound.
In 2014, the year of its 40th anniversary, Brooks considered it by far his finest (although not his funniest) film as a writer-director.

Forge Your Destiny: A Guide to Custom Lightsabers
Ah, the lightsaber. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age. But not just any lightsaber, mind you. We're talking about a custom lightsaber, a weapon that reflects your unique personality and connection to the Star Wars universe.
Unleash Your Inner Jedi (or Sith)
Forget mass-produced sabers. Crafting your own custom lightsaber is an experience as thrilling as wielding it. It's a chance to channel your inner Luke Skywalker, Rey, or even Darth Vader, pouring your preferences and passions into every design decision.
Where to Begin?
Step into the workshop of your imagination. Envision your ideal lightsaber. Is it sleek and sophisticated like Obi-Wan's? Or perhaps a brutal double-bladed behemoth like Maul's? Maybe you crave the ancient elegance of a crossguard lightsaber like Kylo Ren's.
The Hilt: Your Lightsaber's Heart
The hilt is the core of your lightsaber, its beating mechanical heart. Choose from classic aluminum hilts reminiscent of the Skywalker legacy, or embrace the sleek curves of a modern design. For a touch of the dark side, consider weathered or tactical hilts that exude a sense of raw power.
Blades of Light and Color
No lightsaber is complete without its blade. The traditional blue and green are timeless, but the possibilities extend far beyond. Crimson red for the Sith, fiery orange for Mandalorians, or even a dazzling rainbow blade for the flamboyant duelist. Neopixel blades take it a step further, allowing for smooth color-changing effects and stunning blade styles.
More Than Just Aesthetics
Customization goes beyond the surface. Sound fonts let your lightsaber sing with the iconic hum of a Jedi blade or the menacing crackle of a Sith weapon. Add personality with custom activation switches, grips, and pommels.
The Force is Strong with These Builders
Crafting your dream lightsaber doesn't have to be a solo quest. Websites like Reflekt Sabers offer a treasure trove of pre-built and customizable options, with expert guidance to help you navigate the world of lightsaber parts and features.
Ignite Your Passion
Building a custom lightsaber is more than just acquiring a cool prop. It's an expression of your fandom, a connection to the Star Wars universe, and a testament to your own creativity. Through the Lens: A Visual Prop Review
In the world of visual storytelling, props play a vital role in shaping the narrative and enhancing the overall cinematic experience. From the smallest, seemingly insignificant objects to grand, awe-inspiring artifacts, props bring depth, authenticity, and visual appeal to the screen. In this visual prop review, we will explore the significance of props in filmmaking, their visual impact on storytelling, and highlight some iconic examples that have left a lasting impression on audiences.
The Visual Power of Props
Props are the tangible extensions of a film's characters and setting, providing essential visual cues that aid in understanding the story. Whether it's a detective's magnifying glass or a character's cherished family heirloom, each prop communicates specific information about the characters, their motivations, and the world they inhabit.
In visual storytelling, props serve as powerful tools to immerse the audience in the story's universe. They help build a sense of time and place, enhance the atmosphere, and elicit emotional responses from the viewers. A well-chosen prop can even become a character in its own right, leaving an indelible mark on the audience's memory.
The Art of Prop Selection and Design
Selecting and designing the right props is a collaborative effort that involves the director, production designer, art director, and prop master. Each prop is carefully chosen to align with the film's aesthetic, time period, and the characters' personalities. Whether it's a historical drama, a science-fiction epic, or a modern-day romantic comedy, the props must seamlessly blend with the overall visual style of the film.
Props can be sourced, bought, modified, or even custom-made to suit the filmmaker's vision. Attention to detail is paramount, as even the smallest prop can significantly impact the audience's perception of the story. A futuristic gadget or an ancient artifact must look and feel authentic to suspend the audience's disbelief and transport them into the world of the film.
Iconic Film Props
Rosebud (Citizen Kane): This enigmatic prop, the last word uttered by Charles Foster Kane, becomes the subject of the film's investigation, symbolizing the elusive nature of the human psyche.
The Lightsaber (Star Wars Saga): An iconic weapon wielded by Jedi and Sith warriors, the lightsaber is a visual representation of the Force and serves as a symbol of heroism and villainy.
The Ark of the Covenant (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark): This biblical artifact becomes the object of pursuit in a thrilling adventure, its visual allure capturing the imagination of the audience.
The Golden Snitch (Harry Potter Series): The small, winged ball serves as a central element in the wizarding game of Quidditch, adding an element of excitement and magic to the films.
The Ring (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy): This alluring, malevolent ring drives the narrative, compelling characters to seek power and embark on an epic quest.
The Maltese Falcon (The Maltese Falcon): A coveted and visually striking statuette becomes the driving force in a gripping film noir mystery.
The White Rabbit's Pocket Watch (Alice in Wonderland): The visually distinct pocket watch prop punctuates the urgency of time, guiding Alice through her fantastical journey.
The Visual Language of Props
In the visual language of filmmaking, props communicate without words. They provide insights into characters' backgrounds, desires, and struggles. A simple item, such as a photograph or a letter, can evoke nostalgia or reveal a character's emotional vulnerability.
Moreover, props can also serve as plot devices, driving the story forward. They may be essential elements that characters must obtain or protect, or they could be clues that help solve a mystery or resolve a conflict.
Conclusion
Through the lens of visual storytelling, props enrich the cinematic experience, leaving a lasting impact on audiences. They contribute to the creation of immersive worlds and unforgettable characters, adding depth and authenticity to the storytelling process. Whether it's a mythical artifact or an everyday object with symbolic meaning, props hold the power to transport viewers into the heart of the narrative, making them essential components of the magic that unfolds on the silver screen.

It starts off classic with graceful accents and pocket doors around
Warm wood panelling and lots of natural light in areas that allow for privacy
Then I like to imagine when Alex moves in
Living Room:
probably a long couch and ottoman with poufs/bean bag chairs around for guests
low coffee table, maybe a rustic log design - recycled
patterned rug
baskets hidden under low shelves for David's toys, throw blankets, extra pillows
higher shelves with little trinkets from round the world
maybe some bamboo or indoors plants around
front windows are privacy screened so you can see out but not look in
warm lights!
I feel like June lends a hand with the colors and aesthetics
roomba station
Stairs might have a colorful runner picked out with Alex
Maybe some eclectic art on the walls from the local flea markets
Den:
projector screen and lots of cushions
snack fridge
posters: James Bond, Star Wars, Pride & Prejudice, Arthur Fox's props
gaming set up
Kitchen
island counter
marble tops, wooden glass-fronted cabinets for dishes
lots of silly mugs
coffee machine for Alex
a tea shelf and kettle because he's not gonna microwave his tea, thank you
fridge with silly magnets and post-its
spice rack for Alex
chore chart (canon) hung somewhere
silly kitchen towels
Backyard
trellis
hanging wicker chairs and swing
if they can squeeze a tree
Henry's Office
shelves of books everywhere with rolling ladder access
solid desk, perhaps inherited from Arthur with Henry's fancy calligraphy set and laptop
soothing neutrals, fluffy carpet
a dog bed nearby for David
a little fridge with magnetic poetry gifted by Alex and a little set up for tea (with another kettle)
bay window for reading or a reading nook with natural light
if it's at the top floor, maybe he has a telescope from his dad there
art would probably be posters of classic plays or quotes
photos of fam
Alex's Office
bay windows
probably a deep blue or green walls
records collection and turn-table and a sweet sound set up
also shelves of books - political bios, law books, books from BIPOC & queer writers
post-its and colored sticky tabs everywhere, and lists even more so - but now with a shelving system
ergonomic office chair and might have a desktop monitor
a large desk space - for his notes to be spread out
snack basket within reach of the desk
hardwood floors with some cushions - for his pacing - minimizing dust for his allergies
there's got to be a bar cart in there somewhere
he's probably got a corkboard or a map of the districts up on the walls
posters of bands he likes
photos of family on the shelves
This is such a wonderful thing to think about really :) and definitely inspired by the brownstone server discourse!
Might add more
How do you think Henry decorates the Brownstone? I know it's kind of described in the bonus chapter from Henry's perspective, but I'm thinking of some of the more detailed aspects. I feel like it would be a mix of more classic while still being cozy and also a little bit of chaos cause it’s the first time he has full control over how his living space looks. So like very basic and a lot of neutrals…then like a very out of place decorative bowl or figurine on a shelf. Maybe a slightly obnoxiously colored knit blanket gifted to him by Alex draped over the back of the couch. Just about everywhere you look there’s something that just doesn’t quite fit in cohesively.
He also definitely has at least one collection/display of photos of his friends and family, him and Alex, and David (of course).
I imagine that his study/office has multiple bookshelves filled with books and it's a mix of really nicely bound modern literature, classics and first editions, and paperback copies of his favorite books that are just barely hanging on for dear life and some have tape to hold them together.
And obviously after Alex moves in, the decor changes a little to reflect both of them.
Anyway, I’m curious of other people’s thoughts. What do you imagine it’s like?
