Star Wars permanently rewired my brain as a young lad with the concept of R2D2. In the middle of a world of high-speed space battles and wizards with laser swords and massive superweapons and charismatic heroes with magical geneologies who can see the future, the true undisputed mvp of all 6 movies is a diminutive 3-wheeled trashcan.
The engineers that designed R2D2 wanted to build a little robotic doohickey with magnetic treads for rolling around the outside of spacecraft patching leaks, and gave it an onboard computer to help pilots navigate hyperspace if needed, and then, ladies and gentlemen, the engineers called it a day. He has no arms. He has no legs. He cannot speak any language, he cannot swim, he can barely climb stairs, he needs a little crane just to climb aboard a starfighter. Short disabled mute cyclops representation, you might say. Short disabled mute cyclops king, says I.
The royal government of the Naboo purchased him for exactly 150 US Dollars at some undisclosed point before episode 1, as a voiceless slave with no rights, at which point he promptly proceeded to save all of their asses by going on EVA outside an unshielded ship in the middle of a battle with not a single shred of fear in his eye. Thus had he successfully joined the plot. And it's been decades since then. He has been a servant and a companion and a confidant to politicians and warriors and heroes and princesses. Wars have come and gone and trillions have died, and the galaxy has monumentally changed in every conceivable way, but he remains the same. He remembers everything and knows everyone. He has personally and directly saved the life of each and every named character. Those he hasn't saved were betrayed by the same man that betrayed him; does this haunt him? Perhaps, perhaps not, he wouldn't say. His best friend is, and has always been, a cowardly moronic metal butler who won't stop complaining. R2D2 categorically ignores everything he ever says, and occassionally pushes him from dangerous heights.
Today you will find R2D2 where he has always been able to be found; down in the hangar poking and proding at the underside of some spacecraft or another, or trundling down a hallway with his tiny little screwdriver hands at the ready, at a distance behind some legendary hero or another. He will never receive a medal. He will never not be trusted and beloved by masters who will never understand him. He will never be rid of C3PO, the only one who does. He will never not be a voiceless slave.
He would have it no other way.
Tl;dr: when I mentioned I wrote scifi to a coworker the other day, he asked me who my favorite Star Wars character was and I've been thinking for days why I unhesitatingly answered with R2D2.

A long time ago in a... well... galaxy full of ducks and mice
Hello there!
How should we celebrate Star Wars Day? Uhm... what about a ride along some italian Disney "parodies" of Star Wars? And I use quotation marks 'cause, it'll probably surprise you but, as of today, there is no real Disney parody of Star Wars.
There are, though, many stories that draw inspiration from some elements of Lucas' saga, starting from "Topolino e la spada di ghiaccio" (1984) amazing fantasy saga by Massimo de Vita that has nothing to do with Star Wars but gives us the first Disney character whose design's been heavily inspired by Darth Vader: the evil Prince of Mists!
The nefarious Prince of Mists from "Topolino e la spada di ghiaccio".
Scattered throughout the years there are many other stories inspired by Star Wars from Silvia Ziche's Topokolossal (1997):
Mickey Skyrunner weilds his legendary catalytic baguette as he faces off Pietro Galactus.
up to "Paperoga eroe dello spazio" (2013) a splendid, touching story by Roberto Gagnor and Claudio Sciarrone that culminates in one of the best plot twists ever on Topolino's pages (this story is the dream of any Galactic Empire fan ❤️).
Easy, Gorgius "heir" to Behlpost's throne... who do you think you are? Luke Skywalker? (Spoiler: you're not).
You may call it Behlpost, but that's Naboo royal palace for sure... with imperial guards as it seems 😁 (or are they forerunners of Operation Cinder sentinels? 🤔).
The only story (well, saga actually) that comes the most close to a real parody is Giorgio Pezzin's "Topolino e i signori della Galassia" (1991) which draws heavily inspiration from Star Wars expecially in the second episode.
The main character of this story is Goofy, who finds out to have inherited special powers from some old relative. Powers that make him the only one able to help the Galactic Confederation in their struggles against robots named "the Metals" led by general Titanio who seeks to eradicate every biological life form from the galaxy.
Jeez, Titanio's soldiers may be robots but their aim is as bad as Stormtroopers'... 🤣🤣
That's definitely the Battle of Hoth.
I know for sure there are also Star Wars inspired stories starring Josè Carioca out there, and McGreals' "May the farce be with you" (2005), but, unfortunately, I never had the chance to read them 'cause they've never been published in Italy.
But today's biggest obstacle to a Star Wars parody is Disney's auto-censorship. Yes, 'cause there's a strict rule at Disney that forbids authors to write parodies of other Disney franchises... so any parody of Star Wars (and Marvel) it's a very loud no-no. Sad :'(
We do know, though, that there are at least three finished legit parodies that never saw the light of day. One by Francesco Artibani that was supposed to be published on Topolino and two made-in-Egmont drawn by Cavazzano and Freccero.
Of the latter we can appreciate a beautiful illustration and a single page thanks to Freccero sharing them online a few years ago:
Alas, unless Disney change their internal directives (and there's no way it's gonna happen anytime soon) we'll never get the chance to see these or any other Star Wars inspired story in the near future.
But we can sure appreciate the older ones and if you wanna indulge yourself in something different today... these are the stories you're looking for ;)
May the Force be with you!
(And LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!!! 💪)

There were very few things Darth Vader kept from his life as Anakin Skywalker. One was the flair for dramatics he so favoured. Another was, of course, his piloting skill. But one unfortunate old habit was his tendency to utter Tatooine lexicon under his breath. Oh, how he loathed that particular habit he couldn't shake. He glared under his helmet and his hands twitched just thinking about it.
—
"Lord Vader, sir!"
"It had better be good news…" he threatened. They all knew what would happen if they displeased him.
"Uh, well… not exactly, sir." The soldier floundered under his gaze. "The rebels, they… they may have destroyed an entire starfighter fleet, sir."
"Fantastic. Absolutely kriffing wizard," he muttered sarcastically. How on Tatooine's moons had they destroyed an entire fleet? Out loud, he said, "And you let them get away?"
"They had, well… they had power in numbers, sir?"
"Wrong answer, soldier." Vader lifted his hand and squeezed, the soldier's hands coming up to grasp at his neck.
—
Vader gazed at the parts the engineers had been given in disdain. "Is that all? Me stuka mo gootu no ma na choky Watto." The Huttese fell from his lips before he could even think. The Force swelled with his fury at letting his first language slip. He hadn't spoken it since before he Fell. Since his mother and the Tuskens… He growled. "No matter, I'll inform the Emperor we require better supplies."
Vader turned on his heel and marched out.
—
Vader would never get tired of sitting in the cockpit of any ship. His control and maneuverability far surpassed any of the other TIE-fighter pilots. The Force sang with his movements, as eerie as the song of the Dark may be. He smirked, doing complicated flips and turns to navigate the debris, dodge blasts, and chase down rebel scum. He felt more at home in the cockpit than he ever did at any of the places he'd once lived. The Force whispered to him. It pushed a memory he could not forget, no matter how many years had passed, to the front of his brain. The Battle of Naboo.
I am not saying that, he thought. The sound of his breathing grated on his ears in the silence.
Say it, my child. It'll be fun!
"Sith do not have fun," he gritted his teeth. "No matter how much you insist."
You're having fun now, aren't you?
"Kriffing- fine." Vader grumbled, but deep down, amongst all the rest of Anakin he'd buried beneath layers of hate and darkness, he'd been thrilled his parent was encouraging him. "Now this is podracing. Happy?"
Very. Though I'd be happier-
Vader cut off the rest of its sentence by slamming his shields up.
The Huttese comes from the Episode I Racer PC game, and translates to "I've seen better in Watto's junkyard." Source: https://www.completewermosguide.com/hutttranscript.html

Adi Gallia: Human vs Near-Human source material
Because lore can't agree on this matter, so here examples of tie-in source material.
Star Wars Episode I - Visual Dictionary (1999)
Tholoth headdress
The New Essential Guide to Characters (2002)
"Though she looked young, the near-human Adi Gallia was a member of the Jedi Council for more than a decade prior to the Battle of Naboo [...]"

Species: Human
"Adi Gallia was Corellian by birth [...]"
Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008)
"A beautiful brown-skinned Jedi Master […] born to Corellian parents who were diplomats on Coruscant. [....] Adi Gallia chose to dress in the plain brown robes of a Jedi, but wore a Tholoth headdress."

What is your favorite Star Wars Romantic scene?
oh gosh i have so many (most of these are anidala lmao)
When Anakin and Padme reunite at the beginning of "Revenge of the Sith", and Anakin just runs to her and lifts her up and spins her around, and they're hugging each other so tightly???? Like when RotS came out, we had nothing about Anakin and Padme's relationship post- AotC, but the second this scene happened, it was just obvious how much love they have for each other. Also bonus points bc it's the scene with my favorite Padme costume
Kanan and Hera's final kiss in "Rebels", and the fact that his sight returned just before he died in order to allow him to see her and Ezra, I cry every single time
Jyn and Cassian's hug at the end of "Rogue One". It can 100% be interpreted as platonic, but i'm a RebelCaptain stan forever and always, so just the fact that they're just hugging each other, so at peace as the world falls apart around them????
OKAY I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EPISODE BUT THERE'S A SCENE IN CLONE WARS WHEN THERE'S A BATTLE HAPPENING ON LIKE FREIGHT CARS? AND PADME'S ON ONE WHILE ANAKIN'S ON THE OTHER AND PADME'S IS ABOUT TO CRASH, AND ANAKIN FORCE LIFTS HER AWAY AND INTO HIS ARMS AND IT'S THE CUTEST FUCKING THING
also the anidala love confession in AotC, nothing will ever beat that
Satine and Obi-Wan's final conversation in Clone Wars before she dies 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Padme saving Anakin's padawan braid after it gets cut off when he's knighted
Padme talking about raising their babies on Naboo and Anakin just standing in the doorway admiring his beautiful wife
just... Anidala <3
unpopular opinion but the "i love you" "I know" scene falls maybe third or even fifth in rankings for most romantic star wars moment, there are so many other good moments
#anidala#anakin skywalker#padme amidala#obi wan kenobi#satine kryze#obitine#jyn erso#cassian andor#rebelcaptain#star wars

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is back in theaters for its 25th anniversary. Might go see it again. Last time I saw it in theaters was back in 2019 for the 20th anniversary, but they had given it the awful 3D treatment. As hard as it might be to believe, Phantom Menace is now - and has always been - my favorite Star Wars Movie.
The marketing campaign was incredible. My dad went nuts for all the promotional merchandise! I remember going with him to Taco Bell and waiting in line to get the cup topper of all the characters. I think we only got Maul and Anakin.
It seemed like it was everywhere! It was like the whole world was united in their anticipation of Episode I. Then we all watched it and lost our collective minds at the opening crawl! And again during the podracing scene! And again during the lightsaber battle between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan! And again when Anakin destroyed the control ship while piloting the coolest starfighter ever (the Naboo N1).
Phantom Menace is the best. I'm not sure if the DVD I have has the original janky puppet Yoda (who looks almost too young) or the CGI Yoda from the other Prequels. I think Disney+ has CGI Yoda.
