HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Casey Affleck, swamp pop singer Rod Bernard, Sid Bernstein, Joe Besser, Cantinflas, John Cazale, Kid Creole, Del The Funky Homosapien, Cecil B. DeMille, Leslie Duncan, George Hamilton, Roy Hay, Heintje, Mark Knopfler, Greg Langston (The Next, No Alternative), Ron Mael, Tiny McCloud, Pat Metheny, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Alexei Nikolaevich, Peter Ostroushko, Buck Owens, Marjorie Reynolds, Theodore Scaife, Erwin Alexander Schrödinger, Lakeith Stanfield, Matt Thiessen (Reliant K), Stefanos Tsitsipas, Mladen Vukic, Porter Wagoner, Deborah Walley, Wednesday 13, Jane Wyatt, and recording artist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Derrek Van Eaton.
Classic rock-philes and deep Beatles fans will recognize him from the brother band Lon & Derrek Van Eaton. Prior to their association with Apple Records (the record label created by The Beatles), they were part of the eccentric New York-based folk rock band Jacob’s Creek. They shared a studio with Simon & Garfunkel and released one album on Columbia in 1969. Two years later, John Lennon and George Harrison “discovered” them as a brother-act duo and signed them to Apple. The Van Eaton’s music blended urban folk and dreamy rock with a blues-gospel undercurrent, which perfectly coincided with the sounds of Badfinger and latter-day Beatles. The Van Eaton’s excellent BROTHER album was co-produced by George with Klaus Voorman. The Van Eatons toured the USA to promote BROTHER. Their 1972 tour brought them to where I was living in Huntingdon PA, where they played Ellis Hall at Juniata College (I stood listening from outside, a lad with no ticket money).
The BROTHER album launched a long association with George, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, and other travelers in the Apple/Beatle legacy that unfolded in the 1970s. Then the Van Eatons became studio session players favored by producer Richard Perry, who hired them for recordings with Art Garfunkel, Martha Reeves, and Carly Simon. Perry also produced the Van Eaton’s 1975 WHO DO YOU OUT DO album. Following that era, the brothers created a non-profit film and music company called Imagine a Better World.
The Van Eaton brothers since have released sporadic works (duo and solo), notably their acclaimed 1996 cover of “Apple of my Eye” on the COME & GET IT Badfinger tribute album. In 2013 they issued a career-spanning anthology with new recordings with contributions from Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Klaus Voormann, and Gary Wright, and the Van Eatons are still active in musical and spiritual pursuits.
Some years ago I met Derrek some years ago at church we were both attending in Pennsylvania (where I picked his brains about that 1972 concert I heard but couldn’t see), and the last time we crossed paths was at a Monkees concert in Denver in 2011. Even in passive meet-ups I can see the creative spark in Derrek’s eyes. Here’s one of my favorite Van Eaton cuts “Sun Song” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5VSJmb2VI0...Meanwhile, HB DVE and thank you for your years of remarkable creativity and soul.

June, 1890
The young couple were enchanted by the life they were starting to grow with one another in Willow Creek. A small town in the United States of Simerica, it was the very town and home Evaline had grown up in as a child. Her father, Grover Stanfield, had gifted her the home as a surprise, for she had not known that the house was still in his possession.
Like the many people in their family, Grover Stanfield had broken societal tradition and gave the home to his eldest child instead of his eldest son. It was always made up in his mind to give the home to his eldest child, and Evaline was such.
She was so eager to eventually raise her own children in the very halls she had once ran down when she was little. She hadn't known how Walter would react to such news when they were told, but if his bright look of merriment told her anything, it was that he was just as excited as she was. The pair were overly eager to create their lives together.

Disney's upcoming movie releases
Disney is releasing many movies in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming service. Family-friendly prequels and live-action remakes of cherished cartoon masterpieces are also included. The business adjusted its release calendar for future movies from its different studios this week. To view every title coming out in 2019, scroll down!
The Little Mermaid will be remade in live-action by Disney and released in theaters the following year. The movie, which stars Halle Bailey (The Color Purple, Grown-ish), tells the tale of Ariel, a mermaid princess who strikes a bargain with a sea witch to transform into a human so she may experience life on land and fall in love.
Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric in the movie, while Melissa McCarthy, who starred in Bridesmaids, plays Ursula. Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian in Hamilton, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder in Room, and Awkwafina, the breakthrough star of Crazy Rich Asians, plays Scuttle.
Based on the adored animation classic, Aladdin will soon be a live-action film. Guy Ritchie is the director, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott plays Jasmine. In this rough retelling of the Arabian Nights, Aladdin encounters Princess Jasmine and discovers a magic lamp (Naomi Scott). He only fully sees his value once she unintentionally releases a giant genie.
Both fresh recordings of the songs and a fantastic score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken are featured in the movie. It also has many DVD extras, such as an entertaining interactive 3D tour inside the Genie's lamp and a virtual trip on a magic carpet.
Disney transports you deep into the African wilderness with The Lion King, their 32nd animated film. It relates to the tale of Simba, a brave little cub who will grow up to rule the jungle. One of the all-time top-grossing animated movies is this one. It has music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer and a cast of believable animal characters.
The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as the voice actors. The successful animated feature Finding Nemo was followed up with Finding Dory. In a quest to find her family, she reunites everyone's favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres).
Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote and directed the first, is in charge of this. Thomas Newman, a composer for movies including Skyfall, The Help, and WALL-E, also contributed music to the movie. This tale of a fish in and out of water is full of emotional weight and recognizable characters, even though the plot doesn't attempt to rival Finding Nemo in terms of brains. Disney Pixar is a resounding winner.
Captain Jack, a down-on-his-luck character, senses the winds of misfortune blowing his way in Disney's newest swashbuckling adventure forcefully. He must now travel a dangerous sea in search of the fabled Trident of Poseidon, assisted by a clever and attractive astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy. As the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp makes a comeback. His new castmates include Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the villainous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, the ninth and final movie in the Skywalker saga, has been made available by Disney. The movie recounts the Resistance's struggle against the Galactic Empire and the malevolent First Order under the command of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie, a debutant, appear in the movie. J.J. Abrams, who also authored the script, is directing it.
One of the most well-liked attractions in Disney history is The Haunted Mansion. It is a classic and has been around for over 50 years. In 2023, a movie adaptation of the attraction is scheduled to debut, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others.
The narrative centers on Gabbie (Dawson), a single mother who moves into a mansion in New Orleans and learns about the building's extensive history of hauntings. She asks a priest, a historian, and tour guides to help exorcise her house.

#100: Federal Hall by The Stanfields (because "angry at politicians" is a vibe and "falling into the cesspit yourself" is also a vibe)

HAUNTED MANSION REVIEW
Disney clearly has their priorities mixed up regarding the release strategy for their film adaptation of "Haunted Mansion". Clearly, a movie that would fit more releasing in late September or October for the Halloween season, Disney has decided to get the theatrical distribution for "Haunted Mansion" out of the way in July to prioritize the Disney Plus streaming release later in the Fall. Watching a movie clearly intended for a Halloween release in July is rather confusing. That being said, that is on the idiotic executives to face the mediocre box office results than docking points off in this review.
Imagine now it's Halloween time and "Haunted Mansion" is out to celebrate the spooky season! This second theatrical attempt adapting the haunting Disney World ride to the big screen stars LaKeith Stanfield as a grieving paranormal tour guide that gets a tip about a mother and son (Rosario Dawson and Chase Dillon) needing help investigating the supernatural beings roaming the halls of their new home. With the help of a priest (Owen Wilson), a college professor (Danny DeVito), and a psychic (Tiffany Haddish), they must all uncover the mystery of where these ghosts are coming from and stop from getting trapped in the mansion forever.
The tone of "Haunted Mansion" makes for a very child-friendly horror movie. Being less scary and more spooky, there's some great imagery and creature designs throughout the film. Early on as the basic premise is being established, the reason these people become trapped and invested in uncovering the mansion's mystery is sadistically clever and allows for the spooks to go beyond the mansion itself. On paper, this adaptation of "Haunted Mansion" has enough spooky scenes and likable characters to be the adaptation fans are looking for.
Unfortunately, while the premise and ideas are there, the execution is rather standard and underdeveloped. With plenty of forced eye-rolling comedy routines and a lack of development between characters, there's too much unnecessary fluff between the genuinely fun moments of exploring the mansion. For every great moment of all the ghosts scattering and fleeing away from the intimidating Hatbox ghost, there's a lackluster comedy routine like being stuck in an unfunny tour of the Crump estate with two pointless cameo appearances.
"Haunted Mansion" is a perfectly decent movie to watch that does deliver on a handful of spooky scenes, but otherwise feels like missed potential on what could have been much greater. The characters are likable enough, the tone adds to the (eventual) spooky season, and the creature mansion and character designs are amusing. While unlikely to become a Halloween classic, it's perfectly good enough to be worthy of a watch.
6.5/10

𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 … elizabeth tudor ( @thunyielding ) 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 … the chambers of the dowager queen of england , hampton court . 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 ... 12th september , 1559 .
the unpleasantness that awaited them on the morrow saw most of the ladies gathered beneath the encompassing warmth of the dowager queen to share their own concerns in whispered tones while the men, some of them on the council or equally as invested in the outcome of the trial, sulked about court in various states of suspicion. though the countess of leicester had some days remaining before she was due to attend to the needs of the queen for the next fortnight, her position as senior lady of the bedchamber meant that she was needed to ensure that the others did not falter in their selection of jewels most suitable for a somber but necessary execution. the royal collection was something not every lady in the service could access and moreover the guardian of the collection was not someone that many felt comfortable in dealing with, his understandable suspicions easily causing insult to the more finely bred women of the queen's circles but for someone like amy, who allowed most insults to wash off her back like water off the feathers of a duck, the task was not as daunting and she had departed from the warmth of the chambers with a box of treasures to be returned for safekeeping, an idle smile upon her features at how far she had come from the damp fields of stanfield hall.
her delight was shortlived, however, as the shadow of another flooded the dimly lit hallway before her, prompting her gaze to lift with an amiable expression that soon faltered, ever so briefly, at the sight of the princess of england. deference towards her superiors was innate, knees bending in the deepest curtsy she could afford without sending the jewel box toppling from her grasp ─ if god was kind, perhaps the princess would simply walk by but her luck was never meant to be that good and she could not stay silent, should the princess be in search of her mother. ❝ forgive me, your highness. ❞ the words were like ash upon the tongue. if amy was a stronger woman, she might have lifted her gaze so that the princess could feel the heat of her glare upon her pale features but instead, the swirling depths of bitter hatred were directed to her feet, the pace of her heart picking up speed until her breathing matched the rapid thump, thump, thump in her chest.
the scent that drifted from elizabeth was familiar, caught upon the collar of her husband when he returned to her in the evenings and the memory of it was enough to make her stomach lurch, a sour taste filling her mouth at the realization. she desperately wanted to dig her heels in, to send robert to his mistress with the slick of her cunt on his face and in his beard so that she could delight in the marks of anger that elizabeth might leave on his skin, so that she might soothe his pains and prove that he needed no one else but his lawful wife but amy was not that woman ─ not yet, though the years of disrespect mounted on her shoulders was beginning to feel too heavy to bear and the child within her made her impulsive, filling her with a boldness that she would blame on robert. ❝ the queen, your lady mother, is not within her chambers. will you wait or should will you leave a message for me to pass onto her majesty ? ❞ leave, leave, leave, her teeth gnashed on the insides of her cheeks viciously to keep the word from escaping as she dared to look up through her pale lashes, a resentment in her gaze that only escape the notice of a fool.

(Lakeith Stanfield) THE UNSURE. Please welcome PASCAL MENDOZA (HE/HIM) to Huntsville, WV. They are a 30-year-old VISITOR who lives in COMMUNE. You may see them around working as a UNEMPLOYED. Poor unfortunate soul. We’ll see if they survive.
ꇙ꓄ꋬ꓄ꇙ
Name: Carter Pascal Mendoza
Nicknames: none
Age: 30 years old
Birthday: July 21st, 1993
Occupation: Looking for a job
Hometown: Baltimore, MD
Time in Huntsville: few days
ꊰꋬꉔ꓄ꇙ
Pascal had literally come few days ago and is having a massive adjustment to the way things are here. He was a one-man-one-van guy before and came to town with a truckload of someone else's stuff.
If he knew any better he'd probably hand it all over at town hall but his first point of contact in town was Peyton. And he was told it's best to keep his stuff to himself, he trust her as she talked him through the crazy place this town was so he kept it all and stored the van in the garage of Peyton's place pending inspection of what he's actually got.
Wanting to learn more about town for now he decided to live at the commune.
He's quite nervous in nature and this new environment and the monsters scare and unease him.
He's usually quite easy going other then being scared of most things.
Pascal has a tendency to latch onto people which is probably why he's easy to manipulate without him even thinking he's being manipulated.
His family is originally from Florida but he was born and raised in Baltimore to a long line of fishermen.
ꉣꏂꋪꇙꄲꋊꋬ꒒꒐꓄ꌦ
+ friendly, goofball, compassionate, kind, sociable
- paranoid, gullible, awkward
ꅐꋬꋊ꓄ꏂ꒯ ꉔꄲꋊꋊꏂꉔ꓄꒐ꄲꋊꇙ
Everyone's a winner - Peyton who'd introduced him to the way things work in this town. He trusts their judgement as she is also an out of towner and believes that it's good to have someone like them on his side. Pascal thinks their friendship is mutually beneficial as she is keeping his stuff and he can help Peyton out with any questions she might have about the commune.
All in this together - People from the commune who'd show him what's what and do chores with him.
Do be afraid of the dark - Someone who shares Pascal's concerns about this place and generally can just freak out with him.
There's no noise around you - Someone who Pascal feels very relaxed about, his usually nervous or goofy nature is stilled and he is truly at ease.
