"A word or a smile is often enough to put fresh life in a despondent soul." St. Therese of Lisieux

1 October is the feast day of St Thérèse of Lisieux famous for her teaching on the 'the little way of confidence and love' found in her autobiography, The Story of a Soul.

Thérèse Martin was born in Alencon in France in 1873. Whilst still young she entered the Discalced Carmel of Lisieux. Her writings reveal a very human character. She frequently fell asleep during the long hours of prayer in the monastery chapel.

She always had a strong sense of God's love for her and felt her calling was to be love. 'What matters,' she wrote, 'is not great deeds, but great love'.

She died on 30 September 1897, just 24 years old. She was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997.

⠀ ⠀“Ó meu Deus! Bem-aventurada Trindade, desejo amar-Vos e fazer que Vos amem, trabalhar pela glorificação da Santa Igreja, salvando as almas que estão na terra e libertando as que sofrem no Purgatório. Desejo cumprir, perfeitamente, Vossa vontade e alcançar o grau de glória que me preparastes em Vosso Reino.” ⠀ ⠀Esses somos nós, depois do retiro. Eu poderia ter colocado a outra foto na frente, porque é uma foto mais distante, que não dá pra ver nossas caras de cansaço, principalmente porque em rede social a gente posta aquilo que é bonito e as vezes busca mascarar um pouco a realidade, mas eu senti no meu coração, quando abri esta foto, que tinha de ser esta! Tinha de ser, porque eu sinto orgulho das minhas olheiras e cara de quem sofreu, porque sofri mesmo… mas oh sofrimento que valeu a pena! Deus tem me suscitado a palavra doação, que significa “oferecer alguma coisa a alguém”. ⠀Há mais de dois mil anos, a única pessoa perfeita que habitou o mundo se ofereceu em oblação por todos os meus pecados, toda minha miséria, e eu com toda minha sujeira muitas vezes não fiz nada por meu próximo, com aquela velha desculpa de que “meus pecados já foram redimidos por Deus, então sou livre”. Ontem, apesar de eu já ter ouvido incontáveis vezes, entendi na essência que eu devo me doar sem medidas ao meu irmão, não esperando que Deus admire minha atitude e me ame por isso, mas porque um dia eu quero estar no céu e ver cada um daqueles que pela minha doação, conheceram a verdade e foram libertos por ela. Se eu estou aqui hoje, é porque ano passado alguém estava fazendo o mesmo por mim. ⠀Hoje é dia de St. Teresinha, e uma semana atrás meu plano era publicar algo bonitinho, atraente aos olhos… Mas a melhor homenagem que eu poderia fazer à minha amada santinha, que tem me ajudado a me tornar alguém melhor, é mostrar a você que está vendo esta publicação o poder do ato de oferta do amor misericordioso: pessoas cansadas, que se doaram por irmãos marginalizados, e que presenciaram eles conhecendo o Pai e querendo viver por Ele. . . .
