"Without love, deeds, even the most brilliant, count as nothing." 1 October is the feast day of St Thérèse of Lisieux famous for her teaching on the 'the little way of confidence and love' found in her autobiography, The Story of a Soul. Thérèse Martin was born in Alencon in France in 1873. Whilst still young she entered the Discalced Carmel of Lisieux. Her writings reveal a very human character. She frequently fell asleep during the long hours of prayer in the monastery chapel. She always had a strong sense of God's love for her and felt her calling was to be love. 'What matters,' she wrote, 'is not great deeds, but great love'. She died on 30 September 1897, just 24 years old. She was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997. #feast #saint #stthereseoflisieux #stthereseofthechildjesus #sttheresethelittleflower #carmelite #carmelites #jesus #christ #catholic #christianity #inspirationalquotes #doctorofthechurch #popejohnpaulii #jp2 #popesaintjohnpaulii #religious #religiouslife #vocation #mission #peace #hope #love #courage #storyofasoul #faith #prayer #spirituality https://www.instagram.com/p/CUeCVgLJpBR/?utm_medium=tumblr

#stthereseoflisieux #sttheresethelittleflower #happybirthday Today is the birthday of St. Therese of Lisieux. She is one of the most popular saints since apostolic times and Pope Pius X called her “the greatest saint of modern times.” St. Therese is the patron saint of aviators, florists, illnesses and missions. She is also considered by Catholics to be the patron saint of Russia. She is often called “the Little Flower” and is known to answer prayers to her by sending roses. Her memoir, “The Story of a Soul” is her best known writing and it is free on Kindle if you want to read it. But she always believed the little things in life are important and is an example of meekness and humility. The little things you do are important and can make a difference, and her simple and practical approach to the spiritual life has inspired Catholics ever since. Even though she lived a short life (she died at 24) her impact on the world and generations of Catholics and religious is truly extraordinary! https://www.instagram.com/p/CJimClvs2lL/?igshid=h0djnngpa6vg

Celebrating the Feast of Thérèse of Lisieux :) “I understood that every flower created by Him is beautiful, that the brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not lessen the perfume of the violet or the sweet simplicity of the daisy. I understood that if all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would no longer be enamelled with lovely hues. And so it is in the world of souls, Our lord's living garden.” - St. Thérèse of Lisieux Art © Raúl Berzosa Used with permission https://www.facebook.com/raulberzosa/ #feast #saint #stthereseoflisieux #prayer #faith #spirituality #catholic #christianity #art #sacredart #inspirationalquotes #sttheresethelittleflower #carmelite #carmelites #littleflower #flower #rose #jesus #christ #peace #love #hope https://www.instagram.com/p/B3DY9xqlaqE/?igshid=w9342zv7mskx
