St. John’s Norway
On November 1, All Saints Day I did a stroll through St. John’s Norway Cemetery here in Toronto. It’s an east end landmark at Woodbine & Kingsway. I didn’t realize how large it is (& there’s room for more) & there was even a graveside ceremony while I was walking through. tombstones Lake Roses Sicney? Taber Ribbons around Owen Mary? Russell Hey! You can give me $$$ to defray cost of blog…

Edward Little's epitaph
Edward's parents, Simon & Sarah were buried in Green Street Cemetery (Section Roseville Street, Grave YY2, St Helier, Jersey) with their eldest daughter Elizabeth Jane. Following their epitaph, the family added a few words to commemorate Edward

It's the tombstone on the right, you can see the names if you zoom in, image in better quality here (For the story, I was scrolling throught random pictures of the cemetery when I zoomed in on this one with no reason in particular and well... it's theirs)
It reads :
"To the memory of Sarah, the beloved wife of Simon Little Paymaster RN who died 9th May 1847 aged 68 years,
Also of Simon Little, husband of the above, who died 20th July 1852, aged 84 years
And of Elizabeth Jane Little, eldest daughter of the above, who died 27th May 1874, aged 70 years,
Also of Edward Little, their son, Commander RN who was lost in the Arctic Expedition under Captain John Franklin RN, ?? HM Ship Erebus, 1847"
I've found better pictures on The Genealogist (under licence) and I could decifer most of what's written, except for the very last part. If anyone has a better picture with the rest of the inscription, I'd be happy to add it to the post !

Good Omens filming locations masterpost! ❤ 🐍😊 Part 3
(here to part 1 :))
(here to part 2 :))
Here to the map :)
S2 London (cont):
C rushing to A after Beelzebub's visit (S02E01) - Regent Street St James's, London
Scene: Crowley rushing to Aziraphale after Beelzebub told with that anyone who will be find helping Gabriel will be dealt with extreme sanctions
Availability (as of 2024): street all day
Link on the map
BONUS:
The 1990 book promo photo - Kensal Green Cemetery, London
The photo with Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman that appeared on the 1990 back cover of Good Omens was taken in February 1990 in Kensal Green Cemetery. After the photo was taken and developed they noticed the winged hourglasses and used it as a design motif for the book. The mausoleum is the Hugh mausoleum of Baron John Frederick Andrew Huth, a banker that died 1864.
Availability (as of 2024):
The cemetery is open cca 9-17 but it good to check the opening times on their page since the two entrances slightly differs and times also differ on Sundays and bank holidays.
The mausoleum can be seen from the cemetery path but to get close to it you have to go through overgrown grass and a bit of bramble.
If you go, check if the one of the smol fygo gifts are still there :) ❤ .
Link on the map
Whew! This masterpost took me several weeks, hope you enjoyed it and it might help you plan your trip to see the Good Omens places! :) ❤ 🐍😊 Wahoo! :)

A rare wooden medieval coffin set vertically into the Gothic arch of the ruined church of St John the Baptist. Chester, England.

"In what remains of the church’s western tower, set high into one of the Gothic arches, is a wooden coffin. An account from the 19th century indicates that a church sexton discovered the coffin while digging a grave in a disused section of the cemetery. The rector ordered it placed high up on the wall, out of reach (but not of sight) of curious passersby.
The coffin is odd in that it is carved entirely out of a block of oak. Its date is uncertain; signs in the churchyard claim it to be as old as the 11th century. The vivid inscription bearing the words “Dust to Dust” is more probably a Victorian rather than a medieval addition."

On September 10th we venerate Elevated Ancestor, Voodoo Queen of Louisiana, & Saint, Marie Catherine Laveau on her 222nd birthday 🎉
[for our Hoodoos of the Vodou Pantheon]

Marie Catherine Laveau was a dedicated Hoodoo, healer, herbalist, & midwife who, "traveled the streets [of New Orleans] like she owned them", as the most infamous Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
Marie C. Laveau I was born a "Free Mulatto" in today's French Quarter in what was then, New France); to a mother & grandmother who were both born into slavery & later freed via freedom papers. It is believed that she grew up in the St. Ann Street cottage of her maternal grandmother.
She married Jacques Santiago-Paris, a "Quadroon" "Free Man of Color", who fled as a refugee from Saint-Domingue, Haiti from the Haitian Revolution in the former French colony . After his passing, she became known as "The Widow Paris". She then worked as a hairdresser catering to White families & later entered a domestic partnership with a French nobleman his death. She excelled at obtaining inside information on her wealthy patrons by instilling fear in their servants whom she either paid or cured of mysterious ailments. Although she never abandoned her Catholic roots, she became increasingly interested in her mother’s African traditional beliefs. The Widow Paris learned her craft from a ‘Voodoo doctor’ known variously as Doctor John or John Bayou.
Marie C. Laveau I is said to have intiated into Voodoo career sometime in the 1820s. She's believed to be descended from a long line of Voodoo Priestesses, all bearing her same name. She was also a lifelong devout Catholic. It didn’t take long before Marie C. Laveau I dominated New Orleans Voodoo culture & society before claiming title of Queen. She was the 3rd Voodoo Queen of NOLA - after Queen Sanité Dédé & Queen Marie Salopé. During her decades tenure, she was the premier beacon of hope and service to customers seeking private consultations - to aid in matters such as family disputes, health, finances, etc, created/sold gris gris, perforemed exorcisms. While her daughter Marie II was known for her more theatrical displays of public events, Marie C. Laveau I was less flamboyant in her persona. She conducted her work in 3 primary locations throughout the city: her home on St. Ann Street, Congo Square, & at Lake Pontchartrain. Despite one account of a challenge to her authority in 1850, Marie C. Laveau I maintained her leadership & influence.
The Queen died peacefully in her sleep in her ole cottage home on St. Ann Street. Her funeral was conducted according to the rite of the Catholic Church & in the absence of any Voodoo rites. To her Voodoo followers, she's venerated as a Folk Saint. In² addition to her Priesthood in Voodoo and title of Queen, she is also remembered for her community activism; visiting prisoners, providing lessons to women of the community, & doing ritual work for those in need.
She is generally believed to have been buried in plot 347, the Glapion family crypt in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans. As of March 1st, 2015, there is no longer public access to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Entry with a tour guide is required due to continued vandalism & tomb raiding.
We pour libations & give her💐 today as we celebrate her for her love for & service to the people, through poverty, misfortune, bondage, & beyond.
Offering suggestions: flowers + libations at her grave, catholic hymns, holy water, gold rings/bracelets, money
‼️Note: offering suggestions are just that & strictly for veneration purposes only. Never attempt to conjure up any spirit or entity without proper divination/Mediumship counsel.‼️

The desecrated Greek cemetery of St John the Baptist during the massacres of Smyrna, 1922 (now Izmir, Turkey). Source: Wikipedia.
Today, May 19th is the day of the remembrance of the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks. Pontus is the coastal region in the northern center of Turkey. Smyrna is in the westernmost coastal region and the associated Asia Minor Catastrophe (also known as the Great Fire of Smyrna) is commemorated on September 14th instead. However, I saw this photo and it touched me deeply and I couldn't just wait and queue it for four months later. The truth is that the sufferings of the Greeks of Asia Minor took place throughout that vast land.
