World Art Day
World Art Day is celebrated every year on April 15. All around the world, people have their definitions for what they consider to be art. Different cultures have different tastes and styles. This holiday is used as an opportunity to promote the development of art. It encourages people to take the time to notice the beautiful things around them. With our busy schedules, people don’t always have the time to go to art galleries. A yearly reminder about beauty helps people relax and just enjoy experiencing the world. It shares knowledge, sparks curiosity, and leads to very interesting conversations.
History of World Art Day
World Art Day was declared on April 15 at the General Assembly of the International Association of Art. The first celebration was in 2012. The date was chosen to honor the birthday of the famous Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci represents tolerance, world peace, freedom of expression, and multiculturalism. The first world art day was supported by all the International Association of Art (I.A.A.) national committees. There were 150 artists from countries all over the world to ensure inclusion. There were conferences and special museum hours. Outdoor art exhibitions were held to display paintings, prints, sculptures, videos, and more.
Art comes in different forms and categories. Art can be architecture, music, painting, sculpting, dance, or literature. Cinema is also considered art. It is a way for people to express themselves through creativity. True art is simply an expression of emotion. It represents the artist’s view of the world and how they feel about it. Art communicates how similar we can be and also how different. People get their meanings of art when they experience it. Their perceptions are usually based on their personal experiences in life.
World Art Day is a great reminder to help people notice the beauty around them. It reminds people to express themselves fully. We are all full of emotions and should be allowed to show them without fear. The goal is to facilitate the sustainable development of art. With enough support, artists can continue to portray beauty.

BEST MOVIES OF 2020 (Arranged alphabetically)
1.     David Byrne’s American Utopia Director: Spike Lee Cast: David Byrne, Chris Giarmo, Tendayi Kuumba, Karl Mansfield, Angie Swan, Bobby Wooten III, Mauro Refosco, Tim Keiper, Gustavo Di Dalva, Jacquelene Acevedo, Daniel Freedman, Stephane San Juan Critic’s Notes: Stop Making Sense is my favorite concert of all time. So, American Utopia easily slots in as one of my favorite. And boy, this is the most urgent film of 2020. It is that watchable as David Byrne possesses his inner Mr. Rogers to guide Americans to an ideal society.
2.     Driveways Director: Andrew Ahn Cast: Hong Chau, Lucas Jaye, Jerry Adler, Robyn Payne, Christine Ebersole, Brian Dennehy Critic’s Notes: Just the sweetest swan song from Brian Dennehy before his passing. Generally, this film is a slice-of-life story of the unlikely friendship between a lonely boy and a lonely senior, and the poignancy is too precious that it struck a chord.
3.     Fan Girl Director: Antoinette Jadaone Cast: Charlie Dizon, Paulo Avelino Critic’s Notes:  For my native pick from Philippine cinema, here is an unlikely story between a fan and her idol. It is a predictable deconstruction of an acclaimed, who becomes an over-the-top antithesis to his onscreen persona. But the script is sharp, so as the delightful leads.
4.     First Cow Director: Kelly Reichardt Cast: John Magaro, Orion Lee, Toby Jones, Ewen Bremner, Scott Shepherd, Gary Farmer, Lily Gladstone, Alia Shawkat Critic’s Notes: Kelly Reichardt became the Yasujirō Ozu of 2020, for this film contains the year’s most meditative shots and moodiest atmosphere on an otherwise simple story of friendship.
5.     I’m Thinking of Ending Things Director: Charlie Kaufman Cast: Jesse Plemons, Jessie Buckley, Toni Collette, David Thewlis, Guy Boyd, Hadley Robinson, Gus Birney, Abby Quinn, Colby Minifie Critic’s Notes: Charlie Kaufman is one of the pioneers of meta storytelling. And him helming one of the most unnerving suspense novels is a strange one. But it brings to light the subgenre of existential horror. First viewing may not be scary, but lingering on its subtext is the scariest part.
6.     Minari Director: Lee Isaac Chung Cast: Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh-jung, Scott Haze, Will Patton Critic’s Notes: My pick for the best film of 2020, Minari is another slice-of-story about a Korean immigrant family wanting to achieve the American dream in Arkansas. What it lacks on dramatic stakes, it has the heart of a striving family. And the best subplot comes from grandma Soon-ja.
7.     Palm Springs Director: Max Brabakow Cast: Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, Peter Gallagher, Chris Pang, June Squibb, J. K. Simmons Critic’s Notes: The emblematic comedy of the last year, Palm Springs takes in the time-loop trope and gives it a fresh twist. The true heart of it is the chemistry between Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, whose signature personas seemingly blend.
8.     Soul Director: Pete Docter Cast: Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Graham Norton, Rachel House, Alice Braga, Richard Ayoade, Phylicia Rashad, Donnell Rawlings, Questlove, Angela Bassett Critic’s Notes: Aside from Brad Bird, Pete Docter just become one of the Pixar directors whose films are worth waiting. Soul is an intriguing character study of two souls needing to find the purpose of their lives. With its layers and layers of themes, this is the boldest Pixar project since The Incredibles.
9.     Sound of Metal Director: Darius Marder Cast: Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Lauren Ridloff, Mathieu Amalric, Chelsea Lee Critic’s Notes: Riz Ahmed is the reason to see this film that honors the deaf and disabled community. His character’s deconstruction and subtle expressions give such gravitas that it is heart-wrenching to watch. Also, the best sound design of the year. (Sorry, Tenet.)
10.  Wolfwalkers Director: Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart Cast: Honor Kneafsey, Eva Whittaker, Sean Bean, Simon McBurney, Tommy Tiernan, Jon Kenny, John Morton, Maria Doyle Kennedy Critic’s Notes: Cartoon Saloon just landed itself as one of the prime animation studios, next to Pixar, Studio Ghibli and Laika, with their most ambitious film yet. Wolfwalkers is perhaps their Princess Mononoke with a fresh twist on Irish history.
Runners-Up: Hamilton, The King of Staten Island, Run, The Trail of the Chicago 7, The Vast of Night
Missed Masterpieces: Nomadland, One Night in Miami, Promising Young Woman, Rocks, The Father

Sundance 2020: Day 5
Tumblr media
Number of Films: 3 Best Film of the Day: Minari
Palm Springs: A difficult comedy to write about, as it involves a plot twist (revealed early on) that is best no revealed. Let us say, then , that Max Barbakow‘s comedy updates and expands upon a well-regarded previous film’s philosophies in ways that feel sufficiently fresh and soulful. Andy Samberg stars as Niles, a loose, devil-may-care dude stuck at a wedding in the desert, and trying to make the most of his experience. Cristin Milioti is Sarah, the older sister of the bride, who is every bit as cynical and self-loathing as Niles is irresponsible and irascible. Naturally, the two of them find each other and start to hang out, but a lot more is in store for Sarah than she can possibly understand, including the sudden appearance of Roy (J.K. Simmons), a dark-clad commando with a crossbow, who seems to have it totally in against Sarah’s new-found friend.  Samberg’s greatest comedic aspect is his mouth, which can shift instantly from leading man handsome, to hopeless goofball. Meanwhile, Milioti is fantastic in a role that requires her to carry the emotional weight of the film through to the end. Smooth without feeling slick, much as its obvious predecessor, it manages to pack a significant emotional klop without being cloying.
Minari: Lee Isaac Chung’s semi-autobiographical film about a South Korean family who move from California to Arkansas in order to start a vegetable farm is a joy to watch. Not just in the sense that its so precise and well-made, but also because it embraces such a wide swath of life, good, bad, indifferent, and doesn’t try to convince us, Hollywood style, that any truths can be simple unto themselves. When Jacob (Stephen Yeun) first moves his clan to the countryside, his wife, Monica (Han Yeri), is deeply unhappy with their predicament, his children, daughter (Noel Cho), and 7-year-old son (Alan S. Kim) are struggling, and his attempt to turn the land into a worthy investment questionable. But through perseverance, hard work, constant negotiation, the arrival of Monica’s mother (Yuh Jung Youn), and, it must be said, the willing support of the locals, the family figures out a way to improve their lot. There aren’t easy answers to any of this, to Chung’s credit, and even the ending, the substance of which you can predict halfway through the film, is handled in a way that feels organic and downplayed. The film is certainly charming, but that’s not to diminish its straightforward approach to its characters’ plight. It doesn’t shy away from the their difficulties, and as a result, it doesn’t cheat towards smarmy emotional closure.
Assassins: One of those docs where the scraps of knowledge you might remember on a specific subject prove to be laughably off-base. In 2018, Kim Jun-nam, the older brother of North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jun-un, was brazenly murdered in a Malaysian airport by two young women wiping an extremely dangerous nerve agent on his face. Once captured, the women were initially condemned from all sides, facing the death penalty for their alleged crime, and seemed doomed. But gradually, with the help of their lawyers and the diplomatic work of their home countries (one was Indonesian and the other Vietnamese), a very different sort of story began to emerge. Ryan White has made a captivating doc on the rigorous planning of an international murder, the peculiar legal system of Malaysia, and the more-than-disturbing nature of North Korea’s current political climate.
Tomorrow: I start my day with Robert Machoian’s The Killing of Two Lovers; check out Braden King’s The Evening Hour; run as quickly as possible to take in Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw’s doc, The Truffle Hunters; try and make it to Edson Oda’s Nine Days; and finish out a busy schedule with Jeff Baena’s Horse Girl.
Into the frigid climes and rarefied thin air of the spectacular Utah Mountains, I've arrived in order to document some of the sense and senselessness of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Over the next week, armed with little more than a heavy parka and a bevy of blank reporter's notebooks, I'll endeavor to watch as many movies as I can and report my findings.

Critics Choice Awards Favor Nomadland and Promising Young Woman, Reshape Awards Race
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
What a difference a week makes. Seven days ago, the Golden Globes arrived with controversy and allegedly upended the race with some major surprises (and major head scratchers). Is Jodie Foster really a contender for Best Supporting Actress? Was the support for Maria Bakalova just internet hype? There was plenty of hand-wringing, but Sunday night’s 26th annual Critics Choice Awards arrived to recalibrate the state of the awards race—and to give an interesting look at how a singular industry marches on during a pandemic.
The biggest winner of the night was Nomadland, which picked up the Critics Choice Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, making Chloé Zhao an even more concrete frontrunner at the Oscars (ahead of her Marvel debut via Eternals). But after the Golden Globes shut out Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman, the movie’s star Carey Mulligan took home the Best Actress prize at the CCA while Fennell herself won the Best Original Screenplay award. With the pitch black comedy/feminist thriller being one of the most talked about films of 2020—and one that had an honest to God theatrical release—its resurgence at the CCA will counteract last week’s media narrative that it is too outside the box and too hard to categorize (or feminist) for awards voters as the race moves forward toward the guilds.
Similarly, Maria Bakalova got a major bump after she lost in the Golden Globes category she seemed like a shoo-in for (Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy). Prognostications that the chances of the Borat 2 star winning a major award had vanished proved premature, with Bakalova taking home Best Supporting Actress over perceived favorites like Amanda Seyfried for Mank and Olivia Colman for The Father. She also teased us with information that she’d be there in a heartbeat if Sacha Baron Cohen ever decided to make Borat 3.
Overall the awards circuit continues to be strange during the COVID era. Once again stars and filmmakers appeared Zooming from their homes or hotel rooms. Jason Sudeikis, who’s Ted Lasso won Best Comedy Series and Best Actor, once again appeared in a hoodie (this one from the set of Booksmart). Conversely, Anya Taylor-Joy—the breakout star of The Queen’s Gambit who won a Critics Choice Award tonight, as did her show for Best Limited Series—was in an evening gown in the wee small hours of the morning.
“It’s kind of fun dressing up in your own house. I don’t know what it is, but you get to play your own playlist, you just sort swing around, and you get to be in your pajamas in a minute,” Taylor-Joy says about awards Zooming. On the subject of fabled awards after parties, she also notes, “It’s going to be like 2 a.m. in London quite soon, and I have to go to work tomorrow, so I’m going to work! Which I’m really excited about; it’s my favorite place in the world.”
Yet in such strange times, celebrating art that actually entertained or distracted people has perhaps greater merit than ever. And it can bring attention to unique projects. That’s at least one silver lining Andy Samberg, who picked up the Critics Choice Award on behalf of Palm Springs in the Best Comedy Movie category, told us.
“I always hesitate to say this, because there is nothing good about the quarantine and the pandemic, and everything, but I think in a lot of ways it helped people see our movie more because everyone was at home [and] because it went straight to streaming to Hulu in the States,” Samberg says. “It came out really at this moment when movies were just starting to come out again… We were like the first wave of ‘see what happens when you put a movie out!’ It turns out people were just sitting there waiting for new stuff.”
Below is all the new stuff that was awarded by the CCAs. Winners (including a few ties) will be BOLDED.

What to see at the virtual Glasgow Film Festival 2021
The 2020 Glasgow Film Festival seems as if it occurred a lifetime ago. It must have been one of the last live, in-person festivals where people could actually utter the words “Is this seat taken?” prior to the world being nudged off a cliff and its populous subsequently locked behind a laptop screen for almost a year. Heeding government guidance, Glasgow is back this year as a digital-only festival, offering up its usual bounty of world and local cinema, but asking you to provide your own snacks.
The festival itself works so well because it trades on that live aspect and uses cinema to both serve and enthral the public. Alongside their screenings at the Glasgow Film Theatre, the CCA and other venues, the programming is geared towards bringing people together to experience films in unique ways, whether that’s in the company of directing or acting talent, or in a unique spot that isn’t usually known for screening films (I once saw Dawn of the Dead screened in a shopping centre, for example).
It sounds like I’m rubbing salt in the wound a bit, and I won’t lie: it’s sad not to be able to hop up to the festival as it is, without doubt, one of the most fun and community-minded festivals on the calendar. But it’s also great that they are marching on and, like all arts organisations worth their salt, allowing necessity to be the mother of invention. So it’s a digital festival this year, boasting eight world premieres, three European premieres, and a whopping 48 UK premieres.
Things are kicking off in the best way imaginable, with the first UK screening of Lee Isaac Chung’s delightful Oscar-hopeful, Minari, about a South Korean family who, during the 1980s, have decamped to Arkansas (via California) in search of their fortune, but also some profound connection to the local landscape. Closing things out is Spring Blossom, the debut feature by 21-year-old Suzanne (daughter of Vincent) Lindon.
Tumblr media
This isn’t really the place to namecheck everything playing in the festival, but we’ll try our best to pick out some of the things that tickle our own fancy. You’re not going to want to miss Ben Sharrock’s Limbo, which examines the grim process of acquiring refugee status in the UK with a levity and sense of humour that lifts it above more dour works on the subject.
We’re also intrigued by Creation Stories, a chronicle of Scottish impresario Alan McGee and the founding of his iconic label Creation Records, which has been penned by Irvine Welsh, directed by Nick Moran and stars Ewen Bremner. Remaining on the music tip there’s Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché, a new film about the charismatic frontwoman of zany punk stalwarts X-Ray Spex.
Elsewhere there’s the French kitchen sink fantasy Gagarine, about a derelict Parisian housing estate that one man decides to transform into a space station, Black Bear, which is billed as a psycho-sexual drama starring the always-reliable Aubrey Plaza. There’s also a chance to catch up with the new film by the grandfather of militantly objective observational documentary, as Frederick Wiseman’s widely-lauded City Hall will receive a screening.
As well, there’s a sidebar in which GFF partners up with the Shanghai Film Festival to trade some of its top titles, and there’s also a country focus on South Korea, offering audiences a chance to survey the cinematic fruits from a country in the midst of a major creative boom. There is also Arrow Video’s Frightfest weekender which offers up the gorehounds among us a mini selection of current horror film treats.
The Glasgow Film Festival runs from 24 February to 7 March. Tickets go on sale from 12 noon on 18 January and can be purchased from glasgowfilm.org

I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt which of the three dresses she would choose!^&*)~date night dresses
'I tried to listen to her heart, which was difficult because we hadn't yet met face-to-face,' Miller noted. 'I prayed that sygdljdress20112 I would be able to create a unique dress that would fulfill her dreams.' She continued about the making of the dress, "I made three protocol gowns, packed them up, and flew to Virginia to unveil them to Jinger. After spending five minutes with Jinger, I told the producer [of 19 Kids and Counting] that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt which of the three dresses she would choose date night dresses. John Bates began designing in 1959 mini formal dress, pushing the envelope with unconventionally sexy styles as worn by Diana Rigg on '60s television class The Avengers. His experimentation with shorter hemlines, exposing the midriff and bralessness (gasp!) began in the early '60s and according to the most in touch of fashion media like Ernestine Carter, the fashion editor of London's Sunday Times, it is Bates who should be credited with developing the style of the short skirt, which would later be dubbed 'the mini' by Mary Quant mini formal dress. 'I'm over the moon marrying Chris and am really looking forward to a new chapter together. I believe that love is also a decision. Saying 'yes' is a huge decision if you take your vows seriously, it's a sign of commitment, not tradition. Everyone can be faced with fears and temptations but we all have the power to decide if we want to deal with these issues or to walk away from the relationship that we've built together dresses for formal occasions.'

Wei Ying: We were schoolmates back then and started hanging out while we were studying and preparing for 'O' levels. After the papers, we went out and soon became more than friends. We went through important milestones together and it brought us closer and stronger. No doubt, there were a few ups and downs, but we managed to overcome them and after dating for 10 years, Alan decided to pop the question. Pearl jewelry is generally associated with silver or gold. Over time, these precious metals obtain a certain patina that gives pearl jewelry its vintage feel. Silver can be cleaned with baking soda and gold can be cleaned with toothpaste. Authentic pearls hold very well over time, as long as they are stored correctly, but they also require regular maintenance when used more often. The audience for vintage has also expanded thanks to influences from celebrities like Taylor Swift, Alexa Chung and Chloe Sevigny who are often photographed pairing vintage fashion with their contemporary wardrobes lamira. Taylor Swift has purchased from Etsy shops like Raleigh Vintage and Vera Vague, while I've sold vintage firsthand to Alexa Chung at New York City boutique A Little Wicked! 2. I haven't had a bride send me a photo of an orange gown, but that doesn't mean you can't be the first to wear it. This Elie Saab Spring 2012 Ready-to-wear gown worn by Anja Rubik is totally unembellished, apart from the languid and floaty seventies-ish silhouette cinched at the waist with a thin belt.
PUBG Mobile: “Guess who is coming”
