Bemular was first sighted by the SSSP drifting through space until suddenly it changed course and immediately directed itself towards Earth where it eventually made contact with The Ultraman orbiting the planet, the two creatures would be locked in combat as they both crashed towards the planets surface and eventually made impact at Lake Ryugamori. The Ultraman would dissipate after three minutes leaving Bemular to wander and recover across Earths surface. Wide spread panic about these two behemoths would lead to the SSSP revealing themselves to the public, and the SSSP’s first offensive attack on an extraterrestrial species, these attacks would prove useless on Bemular, and showed the creatures ability to shoot a concentrated beam of ionized particles. Bemular’s rampage would follow into the nearby city until miraculously The Ultraman would reappear, bursting out of the side of a Law Firm building. The two creatures second battle would end with the area around The Ultraman rising to extreme temperatures, and The Ultraman crossing their arms, and from them burst a beam aimed directly at Bemular causing the creatures demise. The next day Shin Hayata would be introduced as a new member of the SSSP. Multiple tests have concluded that the residual particles in the area are the same emitted from the β Capsule, this new particle has been named by SSSP officials as Specium-133
You know it occurred to me why Jackel swelled up like that only recently because I learned (thank you Gundam Seed and Super Atragon) what happens to a human body exposed to high levels and frequencies of radioactive/microwave heat.
They POP.
The Ultra’s Specium/Spacium beams are composed of a radioactive element they naturally generate possibly due to their bodies absorbing solar radiation.
They were fucking BOILING Jackel's inner fluids.
THAT is why kaiju usually explode when a specium beam hits them, Ultramen literally expose the monster to rapid thermal expansion of their body fluids and the result is KA-BOOM.
So not only does it look awesome but suddenly it’s alot more darker than you’d think when you see a character explode in a tokusatsu or super sentai production.
Hell, if Anno and Higuchi wanted Shin Ultraman to be darker, they coulda realistically showed what happens when people are even nearby Ultraman when he fires off the beam. Thank god they didn’t.
Sadao Iizuka died on March 24 at the age of 88. One of the last living links to the first Godzilla film, he had an incredibly prolific career in tokusatsu as an optical artist, with his work including Godzilla's atomic breath, King Ghidorah's gravity beams, and Ultraman's specium ray. Most of his work on Toho kaiju films was in the Showa era, but he also contributed animation to every one from 1993 to 1997, plus Final Wars and, believe it or not, Shin Ultraman. Rest in peace.
If you'd like to learn more about his career, Brett Homenick published a couple of very expansive interviews here and here.
Chibi Godzilla Raids Again premiered on April Fools Day with a lot of bickering between the worldly Chibi Mechagodzilla and the sweet Chibi Godzilla. No official translation yet, but fellow Wikizilla bureaucrat Les went through the on-screen captions to write a lengthy summary.

Godziban is celebrating Godzilla vs. Megalon's 50th with a multipart episode, the first installment of which also went up on April Fools' Day. The Three Godzilla Brothers get the filmmaking itch again, and Gigan and Megalon are as gloriously dumb as ever.
Kamen Rider and Man Spider—sorry, "Masked Rider" and "Kumo Augment"—have joined Godzilla Battle Line. With this, every lead from the Shin Japan Heroes Universe is part of the game, making it one of the most elaborate Godzilla crossovers ever (remember, Kong's there too). I doubt Rider actually becomes kaiju-sized in Shin Kamen Rider, but there is some precedent for it. Both units are apparently game-changers too.
Penguin will be publishing a Godzilla picture book the day after Christmas by Olivia Luchini, titled Love from Godzilla. No cover yet, but here's the description:
Share the love with Godzilla! This hardcover gift book, complete with monstrously adorable illustrations of everyone’s favorite kaijus, is perfect for that special someone.
Sick of the Skull Island cartoon taking forever to come out? Make your own story. Evil Genius Games has opened preorders for its Kong: Skull Island Cinematic Adventure RPG, to be released on June 1, although you can buy the PDF right now. As someone whose introduction to tabletop RPGs was Toho Kingdom's D20 section, I'm beyond thrilled, not the least because the book thanks Wikizilla and our resident King Kong expert, The Boy Who Cried Godzilla. And as you can see, there are some new monsters in the mix.
Preorders are also open for their Pacific Rim RPG; same release date. They're hoping to expand on both via crowdfunding; the Kickstarter starts May 9.

Bandai released a short, baffling video about an unspecified Shin Japan Heroes Universe project on April Fools' Day. Very suspicious timing, but there's nothing in here that really reads as a prank; this crossover has been around for a while now. Cool animation too.
Toho didn't do anything Godzilla-related for 4/1 this year, probably to avoid upstaging the shows that released actual episodes that day. But I did write a Wikizilla article on past pranks if you'd like a stroll down memory lane.
So fun fact on the Baltan's not wanting Mars! The Science Patrol figure out later on in the episode that the reason they don't want Mars is because there's massive amounts of Specium, which isn't present on earth and it's toxic to them. Which is also what Ultraman's beams are made of, which helps with the new abilities they garner later on in the original series.
Also it's weird that by that list you gave I've somehow seen more of Ultraman than you at this point. We should fix that at some point.
I have so much Ultraman to binge. Someday... someday...
Ok, so I was going to ask people on physics.stackexchange.com this question, but then I decided to ask you so as to make it easier on myself. So, here’s the actual question:
In a world where any two forms of energy can be mixed and/or compounded in the same sense as how two chemical elements can be mixed and/or compounded, what would you say the Specium Ray is (as far as its composition), why is the Specium Ray considered the most basic Ultra Beam technique, how is the Specium Ray generated and fired by Ultras (biologically speaking), and how does Specium become the other forms of energy seen in other Ultra Beams (Ace’s Metallium Ray, Taro’s Strium Ray, Tiga’s Zeperion Ray, etc.)?
Oh, and just to be clear, by “mixed and/or compounded”, I’m referring to how in chemistry, there’s a difference between a mixture and a compound.
I think its better to remove the prerequisite that "two forms of energy can be mixed" part cause THAT specific point has major implications on so many levels of analytical mechanics that im not even going to bother delving into. Plus it dosent even necessarily relate to your actual question
The Specium Ray (Or Ultra Beams in general) seems to work like some form of lasering technique (which ngl, im not really familiar with this cause this is under Applied Physics in my uni's curriculum and im taking Theoretical Physics which they only very briefly talk about lasering)
Not to mention theres alot of Bio and Chem stuff in there that I have no idea how to explain in those context cause its been YEARS since ive took those subjects
iirc why specifically Specium, i believe it was stated somewhere that its because its in abundance in the LoL or sth, so every ultra's base beam is just the Specium Ray. But iirc, its also stated that no 2 Specium Rays are the same like Ultraman and Jack's Specium Ray are different from each other (either in strength and/or other optical properties? Unsure since this was not stated)
Then I suppose over time as the Ultra gets more powerful and experienced, perhaps their inner composition changes and this also naturally alters the properties of their beams? Either that or theres some system in the LoL where Ultras can infuse themselves with other elements to alter their beam by testing their compatibility or sth. Other than the LoL, other Ultras such as ones "born" directly from their power sources like VoL or Noa/King/Blazar might have just been naturally born with their own variations. The DoL mightve worked the same way as the LoL
I feel like i had a real Berenstein/Berenstain experience with the spelling of “Spacium Beam” bc for the longest time i swear everything spelled it “Specium” when i first got into Ultraman.
(How is Kamen Rider Voyager distinct from Kamen Rider Fourze?
Firstly, the symbols on the arms and legs have been swapped out for arrows. Left and Right arrows on the appropriate arms, Up on the left leg, and Down on the right leg. However, she also has a fifth slot for switches that add modules to her back.
Secondly, any Switch she has can be used in any slot.
Lastly, she has a completely different loadout of Switches to Fourze.
Here's the list of Switches she has:
01- Thruster (Based on the Ion Engines that spaceships in her time have, it's a smaller, more rounded version of the Rocket Module)
02- Cannon (If used on the leg, it produces a standard projectile, if on the arm, it's an energy orb)
03- Press (Creates a Hydraulic Press/ Pile Driver)
04- Scanner (Serves to combine Camera, Radar and Flash for a variety of detection tools)
05- Lift (Creates a small telekinetic field around a person or object within twenty feet of her. Can lift up to half a ton for a few seconds)
06- Dive (Creates a field of kinetic energy around her to either slow her down in air, or speed up in water)
07- Grinder (Creates a giant grinding tool for cutting through armor or solid objects)
08- Fade (Similar to Stealth, but it can also make other people or objects temporarily invisible)
09- Surge (Used to give herself or an ally a temporary adrenaline boost. This also heals most minor wounds)
10- Cryo (First Elemental States, allows for freezing blasts, using the Polaris Shuriken to create whole areas of sub-zero chill)
11- Copy (Creates a module that can mimic the armor pieces and weapons of most heroes)
12- Flail (Combining the Spike Module and the Chain Array into one melee weapon)
13- Mirror (Creates a barrier that reflects damage)
14- Spin (Creates a fast spinning platform for mobility)
15- Whip (Creates a metal cable that can either strike or bind a target)
16- Illusion (Creates multiple images of Voyager or another target to confuse enemies)
17- Tunnel (Combining the Drill and Scoop, allows Voyager to quickly dig through the ground)
18- Burst (Deploys explosive dust/chaff to divert enemy projectiles or distract foes)
19- Repair (Can reconstruct damaged objects)
20- Sonic (Second Elemental States. Use the Decibow Arrow for echolocation, high pitched sonic screeches, or infrasound to disorient foes)
21- Flare (Creates a beam of light, equal to one tenth the intensity of an Ultraman's Specium beam)
22- Transmit (Can send the user through electric lines or redirect enemy attacks)
23- Lance (Creates a massive lance. Often combined with a mobility switch to ensure a hit)
24- Liquid (Can turn any surface into a liquid temporarily)
25- Slow (transfers an enemy's speed to her or an ally)
26- Ring (Creates energy rings that can either block attacks or lock down foes)
27- Booster (Creates jetpack wings)
28- Glue ( Locks enemies down with clear high-strength glue)
29/30- Gravity (Similar to Magnet States, this requires two switches to activate. Creates the Newtonic Rifle to alter gravity.
31- Marker (Allows an opponent to be tagged with a special mark that's invisible to them, but can be detected by the Scanner Switch or any ally with enhanced senses)
32- Sapper (Drains energy from a target)
33- Fist (Creates a giant hand of energy to strike at enemies)
34- Cloud (Creates obscuring mists)
35- Buzzsaw (Self-explanatory)
36- Dynamo (Absorbs incoming attacks and rechannels it to heal Voyager or boost her abilities temporarily)
37- Quake (Creates localized earthquakes)
38- Rail (Creates a railgun weapon)
39- Grip (Allows Voyager to walk or run on walls or ceilings)
40- Temporal (Final Switch- She doesn't have this one yet, but she'll have to build it and use it to return home)
Neronga is a massive terrestrial organism capable of absorbing and consuming electrical energy, the leucophores present across its body are capable of camouflaging the creature from sight, making it incredibly difficult to track unless via heat signature. Neronga was first sighted via seismic readings of the surrounding impact area of both Bemular and The Ultraman. The creature quickly woke up and immediately attacked a near by electrical power plant, draining it of all energy, it’s almost as if the organism evolved in tandem with humanities advancement with technology, creating its own ecological niche that serves to absorb and hinder advancement with electricity. At 10:50 PM the next day, Agent Hayata disappeared, along with the β Capsule which was previously in containment, this would be followed by the reappearance of The Ultraman, seen standing motionless next to the second nearest power plant as if it was anticipating this to be the next target of Neronga’s hunger, this would turn out to be correct as heat signatures proved that Neronga was lumbering its way towards the area. Combat between the two organisms began with Neronga shooting a strike of lighting out of its nasal horn towards The Ultraman, only for it to have no effect. Towards the end of the fight Neronga would try and stab the true body of The Ultraman present within their chest, only for Ultraman to grab and shatter the Nasal Horn of Neronga, this would prove fatal as Neronga slumped over, its corpse being obliterated by Ultraman’s beam (officially being called The Specium Ray)
The Ultraman would glance at SSSP personal on the scene before evaporating.
(it was too easy to take the Capsule back… it was too easy to get this job.. it’s too easy..something’s not right -Shin Hayata)
