You know it occurred to me why Jackel swelled up like that only recently because I learned (thank you Gundam Seed and Super Atragon) what happens to a human body exposed to high levels and frequencies of radioactive/microwave heat.

They POP.

The Ultra’s Specium/Spacium beams are composed of a radioactive element they naturally generate possibly due to their bodies absorbing solar radiation.

They were fucking BOILING Jackel's inner fluids.

THAT is why kaiju usually explode when a specium beam hits them, Ultramen literally expose the monster to rapid thermal expansion of their body fluids and the result is KA-BOOM.

So not only does it look awesome but suddenly it’s alot more darker than you’d think when you see a character explode in a tokusatsu or super sentai production.

Hell, if Anno and Higuchi wanted Shin Ultraman to be darker, they coulda realistically showed what happens when people are even nearby Ultraman when he fires off the beam. Thank god they didn’t.
