okay so i completely don't know what's up with the kid xelqua au... can i get a brief explanation... just so i know basically what's going on... (or direct me to a post that already has an explanation, that works too!)

oh man. Uhh… brief…. Xelqua is an alternative Watcher version of Grian from a different timeline, who turns into a kid, and Grian takes care of him.

KidXelqua AU is a continuation of EvoAU.

EvoAU is my AU about Grian’s life in Evo and being manipulated into joining the Watchers, and the effects it’s had on him then and after. 

The Watchers were specifically like family to him.

In EvoAU, during season 8 of Hermitcraft, they open up a hole in the ground to the void, known as the boatem hole, just like canon. However, the void has an effect on Watchers, granting them their enchantments. This slowly, and unknowningly, starts to affect Grian, along with his sleep deprivation, and makes him paranoid.

This all happens late into s8, practically the end of it.

This introduces Xelqua, which is literally just a full Watcher Grian under a different name. 

Xelqua is basically a doomed timeline Grian, he has no home to return to, and he’s never known Hermitcraft. He has no friends nor family, so he spends his time traveling through the void. 

Somewhat similar to ~bill cipher, if you will, Xelqua destroyed his own timeline, so he’s forced into other timelines. This means his code is unstable. 

There’s a somewhat positive to this, Xelqua is chaotic and enjoys causing trouble, he’ll go into servers and wreck things before leaving. Mostly, he likes to find other versions of Grian and encourage troublemaking. Quietly dropping a weapon near Grian, and whatever happens, happens ! Xelqua likes to watch. 

So Xelqua finds Hermitcraft, the server seems to be unstable at the moment, the moon ? Not even Xelqua’s fault, he just got here! But he does notice the familiar energy from Grian, and it’s interesting, fun even. Xelqua listens to Grian’s paranoid rambles through Boatem, and watches plucked fathers gently float down into the darkness.

Typically, Xelqua wouldn’t do this, but he doesn’t often—if ever—meet other Watcher Grians, so he reaches up and drags Grian into the void with him, before possessing him.

Xelqua can only do this due to their codes being almost exactly alike. Real easy to puppet when the glove fits !!

Um. This part is a bit vague since I haven’t seen enough POVs for s8, lol, I know there’s a lot of lore going on, but !! Xelqua crawls out of the Boatem hole, and it’s actually not super fun piloting an exhausted sleep deprived Grian, his muscles feel like lead, his wings are itchy from the plucked feathers and lack of proper preening, and he has a raging headache. 

Xelqua can see the code structure of servers, he reaches out and tears away at it, breaking the firewall and protections X has on it. It looks a lot like barrier blocks or chunk borders from his perspective. 

This burns Grian’s hands, as he doesn’t have the talons that Watchers have.

This opens the server up to all sorts of trouble, Watchers take notice of the instability, on a server they didn’t even know existed ! Typically they’re watching every server.

A group of Watchers get involved, Xelqua is still fighting with Hermits, Xisuma shows up 15 minutes late with coffee to see his server collapsing on itself.

Xelqua, satisfied with the attention and destruction, (but mostly just tired), leaves Grian and flies back into the void, followed by a few Watchers.

The rest of the Watchers decide to shut the server down and force the players to leave. (Not like they had a choice Anyway, but watchers are strict and controlling.)

I don’t know if Grian’s original Watchers are involved in this or not—likely, because it’d be the only reason the others don’t just kill Grian right then and there or take him back to the void themselves. I won’t get into it here.

Anyway, whatever, leaving s8 goes as it does in canon, boatem crew travel through the void into their new server. Grian clings to Mumbo the entire time. (Prior to this, Mumbo was the only Hermit to know about Grian’s past.) (I mean besides Xisuma and Pearl, but more so.)

Grian explains himself to the Hermits when they’re all settled in s9, Xisuma helps. 

Grian also has a brief recovery period, his wings are damaged and unkept, his hands are burned, nails cracked, the exhaustion and body ache in general…. 

Obviously, Xelqua secretly follows them to season 9. But he doesn’t say or do anything for a long while, he’s content just watching the server, in between the code.

Eventually he does show himself to Grian again, but he’s quick to defend himself, saying he means no trouble this time !!! Promise !!!! He did raid Grian’s fridge though, oopsies. 

For a while, on and off, Xelqua hangs around Grian’s house—the weird wizard shoe looking one. Maybe sometimes The Entity. Xelqua is just curious abt Grian, he’s a Watcher too, and a Watcher that doesn’t currently hate him, so they’re practically family. Grian is tolerating him. They do talk though, Grian finds out who exactly Xelqua is, and it’s not hard to believe, they do look exactly alike in face and build, but it is weird anyway.

Like I mentioned earlier, Xelqua’s code is unstable, so one day Grian goes home and finds a little kid there, drinking juice out of his fridge. They startle each other. 

Grian is confused and immediately suspicious. He gets no actual answers from Xelqua beyond just his name.

Grian spends the next few days watching this kid, not fully believing this is an actual kid, he assumes Xelqua is tricking him or something. It’s a stressful few days, Grian doesn’t get much done running back and forth. He’s beginning to wonder if this kid is Xelqua’s kid, the kid denies this, but does say it’d be cool if true.

Grian is forced to tell Xisuma about this, and also admit that Xelqua is on the server again. Slowly Grian introduces the kid to other Hermits, since he doesn’t know how long he’ll have to watch him for, until Xelqua gets back, assumingly ? Grians incredibly stressed out abt this, he faults himself for s8, and it’s only been a few months, but he’s seemingly causing trouble for s9. He thinks he’s always causing trouble for Xisuma.

Kid Xelqua, just like the older one, is also in and out of the server. Online and offline, if you will. This is insanely scary the first time it happens. Grian just can’t find him anywhere, he may find him annoying, but still, it’s a kid, it’s scary. Grian contacts Xisuma again, and through ~game mechanics, checks to see if Xelqua is ~online. He’s not. Grian can only assume Xelqua is messing with him, and had left again.

Next time, when regular adult Xelqua is on the server, Grian confronts him, asking where the kid is, what happened, what does he want, etc. Xelqua has no idea what he’s talking about. Genuinely. 

Xelqua has an unstable code, and occasionally he switches into other versions of himself; there's only four but he takes on the personality and cognitive ability. The kid version is mentally, emotionally, and physically a child, he knows he’s a Watcher, but that’s it. The switch uuusually only happens off the server.

Grian learns and treats each version as their own. Since they all share the same name, I refer to the main one as the Saint, the kid is obviously The Kid, there’s an Evo version, and an extra uniformed Watcher one. They all have their own memories, feelings, and relationships. 

Xelqua has been compared to systems or age regression, he serves sorta as an analogy, but the AU revolves around healing and inner child. (Which, I support systems and age regression !)

SOOO !!!! THATS !!! Where Kid Xelqua comes from. It’s convoluted. 

Kid Xelqua still ages and grows, but depending on how poor the Saint’s mental state is, he might be smaller than usual, regressing almost. 

In general, Xelqua starts to view Grian as a brother, that’s how their dynamic is, but the kid starts to view him more like a dad. (Grian also starts to view the kid as his son, his special boy ! His joy !)

Originally, kid Xelqua was a one off thing for something irrelevant, I just became obsessed with it, and here I am a year later. Lol.

How did Frisk Kanako etc react to learning about HOW the monsters got clover’s soul? I can’t imagine they’d treat it as completely normal although I guess it’s a possibility they might?

frisk; sad, but still happy for them. theyre happy that clover got to experience the same thing they did in their trip through the underground; the kindness of monsters and the bonds they make with others. but they’re still sad FOR clover, that they had to die, they wanted to die, for the monsters. its an injustice that clover died after everything they went through

kanako: her mom hid no secrets from her when they reunited; in the months between returning home and clover reviving, ceroba told kanako everything that happened, even clover’s sacrifice. at the time, kanako thought clover was pretty brave for doing it, and was sad she never got to meet them.

when they DID meet, kanako was kind of over the moon for a bit! but as they got closer clover confided in her that they were awfully scared about the whole thing and dying was painful and they were alone, and kanako realized they werent some cool, untouchable brave cowboy; they were a scared, lonely kid just like she was in the lab. clover was much more down to earth than some fairytale her mom would tell her as a bedtime story. she related to clover a lot more after learning what they really felt about it

Hm. I heard you wanted to know about HoneiSukle, Yes? The only bee capital inside the hidden city's territory, a maze that you will have to learn the directions of based on word of mouth and experience. But I suppose I can tell you all about it.

Tall, golden, imposing, covered in plants buildings with a grand white castle at the center with tall walls surrounding the kingdom, alongside the tall and dense forest around is what a person would see for the first time will say about them.

But as a bee yokai living inside the hive? Well, You take notice of the intricacies of how everything is built.

You notice the barely visibly patterns of hexagons embedded into the material that makes up the buildings. The special designs, symbols, and spells hidden, stitched, and marked into banners, signs, glass, and even the glistening white outerwalls.

You see how the forest has many hidden sigils and posts hidden inside the dense canopy of leaves above the past along with inside the thicker trees themselves. Those yokai are very territorial if you were about to ask.

You notice the golden arches that always look oh so complicated yet so simple.

You notice how the plants flourish in the environment and how much care gets put into where they get placed, you see the gardeners tend to the plants and make sure that they do not die under their care.

You see all the different signs, made with a dark wood or stone and usually written on with bright colors, each color meticulously representing what establishment and business the building was being used for.

The gardens are such a sacred thing, did you know? They say that the gardens hold ancient and magical properties, some people do not come out for hours at time but claim they've only been inside for only half that time... Others say that when a terribly ill person visits the gardens, they come out mostly healed. Not all the way no, but it's improves a person's health and heightens their chance of survival or being healed.

One thing is for certain, These special and sacred gardens are heavily guarded areas due to some distasteful Yokai coming in and trying to vandalize them and destroy the ancient and often extinct flora and plants inside.

Of course, these perks only apply to the giant gardens and the Castle Gardens. The parks dotted around the hive have a much lower chance at reducing a yokai's trouble, but constant exposure had been shown to benefit a person's mental health.

... But of course, These are rumors that have been debunked by the Bee, Bear, and some other trusted yokai by the Bees.

You see how they act, yes? Hesitant and wary of any outsiders who have not 'proven' themselves. There is even a schedule on when outsiders can visit or not. First half of the week and very certain sacred holidays forbid the entry of anyone who is not trusted. Politicians alike have tried to fight against the rules, but they get reminded that the Queens of the past had bought the land they reside. They bought the entire forest and a little ways from it.

It's only nature that they are paranoid, especially after the great war. They don't want to lose the hive again after all, so why trust outsiders?

While yes, a Bee Yokai alone may be the sweetest thing you've ever met... But an entire group of them? They can be the most bitter yokai around if you say or do the wrong thing around them.

But can you really blame them? They have a shakey alliance with the Wasp Yokai because 4 generations ago, one of them killed the King of HoneiSukle. An act like that is unforgivable but the Bees are trying to repair it. Even if it's shakey....

Unlike with the Butterflies, Most of them can be quite rude to the bees and will not show any kindness towards them. It's only reasonable that the Bee Yokai are rude back, Because you mess with one, you mess with all of them.

They do however, have a nice and stable relationship with the Ursine. The Bear and Bee Yokai usually always have a good bond, The Bees provide Honey and the Bears provide protection. It's why the Bears have free reign over the schedule unlike other yokai species, it's because the Bears are fair to the Bees. They act as good bodyguards and well... Would you want to fight a bear?

What you don't see is that the entire city is accessible to the disabled too, Elevators, Professional buses that have wheelchair accessible closest to the doors and not just the front... Basically, everyone inside is treated equally and fairly unless given reason to otherwise.

And the more you stay, the more you know how to properly navigate the maze and customs that is in HoneiSukle Hive, The Hidden City's only Bee City.

Well, how about I show you a paper I found that advertises HoneiSukle, hm? The second part seems to be targeted about the two week Flower festival every mid spring.

Ahem.

'The HoneiSukle district was a section of the city that was surrounded by forest with all types of trees and protected by the Hardworking bees. Tall standing buildings that shimmered like gold with hexagonal patterns all around.

HoneiSukle is home to one of the largest family of hardworking bees. These bees all had different jobs they had to tend to, from saleswomen to CEOs, This Colony is the most prosperous from all the hardwork they put into making their 'Hive'.

The HoneiSukle District is home to the tastiest honey known to Yokai kind and the most elaborate and perfect beeswax candles. Their Luscious and colorful gardens are known to be tourist attractions and genuine places where tourists could watch worker bees take care of the flower and some even taking the pollen!

Every Spring, when everybee has regained their energy, There is a festival that lasts for two weeks to celebrate the new blooming flowers and the new year. Many are allowed to come to this festival and celebrate along the bees, and you can hear everyone happy. Children are laughing and running around, Elders are over to the side gossiping about all the different gossip they have picken up, both young and old are participating in different games and are letting the world know they are having fun. The Queens' happily look over the events from atop their throne that is infront of the giant sakura tree that had been there for centuries.

Every Friday during the festival, Yokai will come along and dance around with their lovers and close ones as Cherry Blossoms fall around them to 'strengthen' their love for eachother, as the bees believe that Friday is the day of love for both platonic and romantic. It does not matter who you bring along, just as long as you are respectful and only wear white or pastel colors!'

Now, you may wonder why they specified that you wear white, yes?

Well, It's because during the floral parades, bees on floats and on their wings and feet will start throwing washable pigments and colored water at the crowd, staining their clothes and skin/fur/scales with an array of colors.

I mentioned the city being user accessible before, Have I? Well, this festival is no exception. They have performers on the ground who dance and cover the ground below, other bees pull up those who cannot use or do not have their wings with a swing so they can experience flying and throwing pigment at the crowd. Fan dancers all around with white and light blue fans to mimic wings.

What if a child of an abusive parent has no safe relative to go to, be it the relatives live to far away or they've completely cut themself off from the family? I would assume Sun and Moon would resume killing the abuser, but where would the child go?

The boys then would rely on their "special connections" to make sure the child is taken to a safe home.

And to be clear, these safe connections don't involve foster homes.

I love love LOVE that none of the Turtles are straight A students in the Draxum raises them AU. Especially as it has nothing to do with knowing the material or being smart enough. This was EXACTLY my experience in school - I knew the answers, I just struggled to get the work done. (Dyspraxia and undiagnosed ADHD will do that to a person).

I made a rather long post about the nature of the yokai school system awhile back (here, if you want to read), and honestly one of the big issues they face is that, since teaching is a volunteer position, there's an incredibly large range of teachers who know their material, but weren't necessarily trained to teach. (And even professional teachers irl can be sucky sometimes, so it's not unique to the yokai system.) And it's not like there aren't good teachers who understand how to accommodate the needs of different students, but (again like the real world) some of them are willing to do much more to cater to students' needs than others.

For example, Lua's favorite teacher is an English prof who assigns a low homework load and always makes sure to announce assignments multiple times so that no one misses them. Demophon's least favorite teachers are the ones that demand class participation from day one when he doesn't know them or his classmates. Millie's favorite is the mathematician teaching his algebra class who lets him sit in the back and stim like crazy. Ragnarok's favorite staff member is the janitor who lets him hang out in the school's greenhouse over lunch and help weed the carnivorous plant section.

But even when they're with the best teachers possible for them, they still don't get perfect grades, they just don't. They weren't made for school, and really any kind of formal education system goes against how (and what) they were intended to learn. And that's before you factor in every single one of them having some form of undiagnosed neurodivergence.

It's kinda in contrast with their lives in canon-- sure, they never got a chance to be in school, but what that did give them was the opportunity to pursue any and all topics that they wanted to. Each of the canon turtles is very intelligent and skilled in their own ways, and I wholeheartedly believe that not a single one of them could write a five-paragraph essay.

Modern AU: Do Link and Revali watch tv or movies? If so, do they ever argue about what to watch, or snacks/food for while they’re watching?

OMG!! okay I love talking about the au!!!! Thank you! Hi!

They more like watching streams together. Revali does have a few shows he watches on his own but Link doesn't take them seriously enough so he gets mad watch them with him (so he just doesn't anymore unless he's seen it already).

Link enjoys Let's Play videos a lot so he watches a ton of those on repeat! Revali begrudgingly joins him (mostly cause Link gets so engrossed and it's kinda cute to him.)

As for snacks!! They don't argue per-se but Revali tries to keep to a "healthy" diet (he's weird about food) so when Link busts out all the chips and sweet rolls, and cupcakes he's seething mad about it. Even though he ends up eating a ton of it anyway.

{on very rare occasions, Revali will make Link a latte at home. Link knows very well to cherish it}

OH MY FAVOURITE AU! HELLO TALS, BELOVED, its kind of like this-

basically, swk didnt actually choose mk to be his successor in this au because hes not planning on retiring any time soon, but all of a sudden this kid shows up able to climb into his pocket dimension and use some of his powers through his guandao, thatd make anyone pause.

while xiaotian doesnt have all swks powers the same way he does in canon, he can still use swks power through his weapon, and that kind of power is dangerous if you cant control it, so swk does end up teaching him how to control it.

swks been alone for so long that hes nice but frustratingly weird and he flips between training mk like he would a new recruit to his army, and not making any sense at all. overall hes actually a pretty good teacher since hes had more experience in this au, its just a matter of getting him to make sense first
