«En la segunda mitad del siglo XVI se impuso en toda Europa el modo de vestir español que tendía a aprisionar el cuerpo, al reducir al mínimo la movilidad y al mantener la cabeza erguida. El jubón, prenda de hechura difícil y costosa realizada por gremios especializados, vestía a hombres y a mujeres dotándolos de un empaque que armonizaba con la fama de altaneros y orgullosos de los españoles».

In the second half of the 16th century, the Spanish dress code was imposed troughout Europe, which tended to imprison the body by reducing movility to the minimum and keeping the head upright. The doublet, a difficult to made and expensive garment crafted by specialized gilds, served men and women by confering them a solemnity that went along with their haughty and proud fame.
