This is kind of random for my blog, but I just watched the most recent video from Overly Sarcastic Productions over on youtube, and holy shit?? Its amazing???? This should literally be required reading for any prequels fan, I'm not kidding

If you like interesting and well-rounded meta, in depth discussion of the way that different storytelling mediums impact narrative flow, and/or deeply moving commentary on the prevailing power of slightly bad movies, PLEASE for your own sake go watch this.

When you spend a lot of time in fandom spaces, it can be really refreshing sometimes to hear people discuss the stuff you're into from a really frank, technical perspective. It's commentary that acknowledges the fact that the pieces of media we agonize over are man-made creative projects that have all the flaws and bugs that come along with that, but that despite those flaws these stories are still deserving of the love we have for them. If you like that kind of perspective, you'll love these guys.

They ALSO do quite a comprehensive look into the way that each of the Clone Wars series interact with the prequels canon, as well as discussing various retellings of Episode 3. They cover everything from the twice-translated Backstroke of the West parody film (super funny, highly recommend looking for it on youtube), the Battle of Heroes fan animation that came out last year, the official RotS novelization by Matthew Stover, and The Blackened Mantle, a 3 hour fan edit of the prequels that recuts them into a black and white Kurosawa-style epic.

My enjoyment of the prequels and Star Wars in general got so much richer when I started engaging with apocrypha like novelizations and fan edits, and seeing the polyphony of ways that creative people have written love letters to these movies inspired me to try and do the same. All of these projects are FANTASTIC and FULL OF LOVE and I can't recommend them enough. Go watch the osp video. Go do the additional reading. Please.

i came across the post where you talked about your thoughts on unique physical traits some splatoon species might have, and i sort of have a follow-up question?

what kinds of physical traits do you think aplysias would have? for context they look a little different from other sea slugs/hares--like a thin crepe that got folded on itself and i have no idea how that would translate into a humanoid oc

id assume like flow with slight differences

#i dont think allll sea slugs are gonna look exactly the same since we know not even all inklings look exactly as all the player characters #but i think the general idea for most sea slugs would b mantle -hat like body part with the lil bunny ears and some sort of tail #and then yknow...diversity lol different mantle shapes/sizes heights colors hair lengths and since theres a canon sea slug character that #makes it much easier to come up w things to make them look different i think #aplysias body shapes arent super like out there which is why i dont think theyd look too different compared to a blue dragon for example #asks #anon #mydoodles

i was once again reminded of my love for "tam lin" and when you think about it, miraak/ldb has such potential. janet (ldb) goes to carterhaugh (apocrypha) and plucks a double rose (black book? forbidden knowledge?) and tam lin (miraak), who was stolen away by the fae (hermaeus mora) shows up to say, "hey, what are you doing here without my permission?" maybe ldb gets to hold miraak in their arms as he transforms into all manner of draconic beasts before he becomes a man again. in this essay, i will—
