The angels don't have to ask to enter the bookshop.

DO NOT ASK NEIL ABOUT FAN THEORY.

We've been operating under the assumption that BOTH the angels and demons have to ask to enter the bookshop, but I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure it's one of our red herrings for season 2.

When Gabriel shows up to the bookshop nude and oblivious, the doors are closed and (I believe) locked. Gabriel doesn't even know who or where he is, so he does what the default is... he knocks, and asks "Can I come in?" Aziraphale is frightened at first and tells him he can't come in but eventually our angels empathy wins and he says "Alright! Just... just get in!"

>> It's never clear that Gabriel would have physically been unable to come in otherwise.

When the Archangels show up Aziraphale literally cuts them off before they reach the door of the bookshop. Saraqael suggests, "Shall we discuss this inside?", and Aziraphale continues, "By all means. Would you like to come in?"

>> If Aziraphale hadn't rushed out to meet the angels, why wouldn't they have just walked into the bookshop like they did numerous times in season 1? Additionally I am fairly certain Aziraphale's "By all means. Would you like to come in?" was added in post via ADR. That doesn't necessarily add credence to anything, just an observation.

When Muriel arrives to surveil Aziraphale they ask, "Great! Well, could I come in and do it inside please? Only cause it's really noisy out here and I can't hear anything." Aziraphale replies, "By all means."

We're never told the angels *can't* enter the bookshop explicitly like we are for the demons. We've always just assumed the same rules apply to all of the ethereal and occult beings.

But then, might I ask, why does Aziraphale tell us "Technically, this bookshop still counts as an Embassy"?

If the bookshop is still an embassy, the angels wouldn't need permission to enter, they would still have jurisdiction, and would still be able to monitor what's going on there... yes?

Let's compare this to the demons attempts to enter the bookshop, because Shax states clearly that she can't enter without permission. We see this again when she tries to get into the Bentley after it's canonically 'our car', and therefore at least partially owned by an angel.

I'm pretty sure John and Neil make a point of having the angels all ask in some way to enter, and Aziraphale seem to grant them permission as a red herring. They don't need to, but they want us to assume a false sense of security, to think that the bookshop is a safe space for our duo, outside of the reaches of both Heaven and Hell.

Technicalities are big in season 2 and I definitely think they're a huge underlying string running through all of Good Omens. In season 1, Crowley and Aziraphale stop Heaven and Hell from trying to restart Armageddon on a technicality. Gabriel and Beelzebub don't technically know if the great plan *is* the ineffable plan! It's definitely a favorite trope of Terry and Neil's to mock unfair, broken, bureaucratic systems, and Heaven and Hell are a PERFECT example of this.

**Somebody has written a meta on technicalities, I know I've seen it but I cannot for the life of me find it so if anyone could tag me so I could link it that would be brills! (Yeah that's right I'm adopting that from Charles from Dead Boy Detectives, 80's british slang ftw, I'm obsessed; please watch it, please, I need a second season.)

Neil has mentioned that the plot for season 3 might've had to be changed from he and Terry's original vision a bit, based on the political climate of the current day, and I'm sure that means we'll see some technicalities being the downfall of Heaven and Hells systems in Season 3 as well. I don't think the metatron is a villain, nor any of the other angels or demons. They're just fulfilling their function, following a set of rules, very much to a fault. This is all just God's big experiment after all, freewill, choice, eating the apple, and the angels and demons aren't exempt.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of technicality about the angels and demons themselves in season 3. We've seen that they're of the same stock, and we know Crowley at least is technically still the same person he was when he was an angel... more or less. Could the book of life end up revealing something like that the demons still exist perpetually as their angelsonas? A technicality, if you will?

Given the bookshop is still technically an embassy, is everything that happens inside observable by Heaven? Can they access the bookshop in their Earth Observation Files? There is some questionable blocking surrounding the bust in Aziraphale's bookshop, coupled with a curious record cover from Maggie's bookshop pointed out by @noneorother

I just watched Space Sweepers and GOOD LORDS I am not okay. That was wonderful and had so much more heart that I ever thought omg.

Alright, hear me out! What if Hakoda adopts Azula too? Like, he sees this mentally unstable girl (the same age as his own daughter-) that's grown up without ANY parental love and is so, so very broken- and he adopts her. It doesn't go fast by any means, but he sists and talks to her, make sure she has food and stuff like that. It's a long and hard road but it's oh so worth it when he sees a genuine child like smile on her face. (His kids don't understand, but Bato does)

It’s good too becaues I imagine he’s fucking terrified of her. Hell, Bato probably tries to talk him out of it so many times (he’s so scared Hakoda might get hurt. He’s always thinking of the worst case scenario and this one. With a powerful firebender who isn’t mentally stable? He’s fucking terrified) but Hakoda is persistent. He reassures Bato that someone will be there with him when he visits her. And azula is so fucking resistent. She’s still seeing the image of her mother, taunting her. And suddenly there’s this man she’s never seen before in her life coming to sit with her. To say nothing but simply sit and offer her whatever food he has with her. It takes so long. It takes so damn long but eventually she stops trying to fight his attempts at talking. She doesn’t speak. Hakoda does most of the talking really. He talks about Zuko and Iroh mostly. How they’re doing and Azula feels her heart tug at the fact that her brother and uncle have been living their lives without her. But Hakoda reassures her they’re both very worried. (And when Hakoda sees that she’s not going to kill anyone that steps near her Iroh and Zuko begin to make more visits to her). Soon enough, she starts talking. Her voice is scratchy and she sounds unsure. She’s never talked about herself in this light. She’s never talked about her feelings, about how badly her mother affected her, her father affected her, mai and ty lee’s betrayal affected her. And this time Hakoda listens. He shows up with some of Iroh’s tea and some fireflakes and he listens. He listens to her. Eventually they start having productive conversations. He starts to take on a more father-like figure in how he speaks with her and Azula is so scared again because does he have an agenda and she asks as such. he does not. She finds out and lets her guard down around him a bit more. She’s so comfortably around him at this point that the first time she cries in front of him, Hakoda is shocked. He doesn’t reach to hug her, unsure of how she would react, but he’s there. He reaches a hand into her personal space so she knows he’s there. Soon enough she finds his embrace comfortaing and constantly finds herself crying into his chest. Hakoda is blown out of his mind at this. And Bato is so damn proud of him. Because he never suspected Hakoda would be able to do this. It takes a lot of talking, a lot of conversations: with Zuko, with Iroh, with Ursa, [one with Ozai that Hakoda knows shouldn’t happen but recognizes it has to] but eventually Azula finds the closure she needed. And it’s actually the first time Zuko brings Kiyi to a visit, she’s about 11 or 12 here, that Hakoda spots a real smile on Azula’s face. A childlike smile that only being around family can bring forth and as quick as it’s there, Azula turns to Hakoda, unsure if she should be this happy. He smiles encouragingly and she continues to engage with Kiyi and Zuko in a lighthearted manner. Hakoda smiles proudly. His heart swelling as if she were his own kid and it’s not until he’s back with Bato that he says okay don’t be alarmed. But I think I adopted another kid. And Bato is like don’t you think I knew that already? And Bato is also smiling at Hakoda because the look on his face, that hidden pride that he did something good for another kid, is there and he’s so happy that Hakoda is happy about this. It’s what he deserves :) DADKODA FTW

1) Who’s your Alliance Commander? What class are they? Alignment? Random other facts you wanna share?

Okay, so. I have at least three, possibly four "canons".

Telcontar(m!Trooper, Tactics Vanguard, mostly LS) Random facts: He's sibling-adopted Vette and Arn both. He's cyborg(eyepatch and implant around his left eye, and his right leg is cybernetic), so he like to talk shop about cybernetic with Arn. His canon includes Silver(Scrapper Scoundrel, and his big sis), Xander(Arsenal Mercenary), and Endrali(Shadow Consular) at least of my other kids.

Vica (f!Consular, Kinetic Combat Shadow FTW, ALL LS) Random facts: She's had a really cool journey from Miss Perfect Jedi to being her own person and balancing her own needs/wants against the galaxy, and her friendship with Zenith is a really important thing to her. She has a pet manka cat named Crete she adore ALMOST as much as she does her husband(Theron). Her canon includes Briyoni(Vanguard Trooper and her lil sis).

Tragen (m!Warrior, Fury Marauder, mostly LS)  random facts: not actually all that strong with the Force. He relies mostly on his lightsabers or charisma and is really good with either, but when it comes to the Force, he uses it more to augment his skill than as its own “weapon”. I thiiiiink I’m gonna be slotting Jaaide(Concealment Operative) into his canon, but haven’t made up my mind yet

Keme (f!Trooper, Tactics Vanguard, mostly LS) will probably get her own canon, too, just bc it's so hard to work her in as anything BUT the Commander xD Also I love her. random facts: Former slave, loves to dress up actually(it’s fun making Jorgan people’s jaws hit the floor), very good sabaac face.

4) Why did this character of all your OCs become Commander?

Tel’s journey to “canon” is a little convoluted, lol. Silver was originally my canon bc she was my favorite now it’s Vica shhhhhh and one of my Launch Day toons. Then I realized, after playing Tel and figuring out their relationship as siblings, that a) Tel definitely would have helped with the SoR etc mess and b) when Marr told her about the Wild Space expedition, my smuggler gal would have told him to comm her brother, that’s more a “war hero” deal, and rolled over to go back to sleep on top of Corso. xD So then I started thinking about swapping Tel in as canon. I love the m!Trooper, Elara’s romance is my favorite in the game, AND the whole five years in carbonite seriously screwed up my plans for Silver/Corso babies, so I switched which Amazing Airen sibling was my canon Outlander and things work much better now.  He’s my canon canon, the others are all alternates

Vica, Tragen, and probably Keme get their own canons bc I have too many of the same classes, I need some room lol and I love them enough AND they’d be able to stick out the storyline thus far (rip to Jaaide and her six breakdowns of varying severity 😅)

Big yes to Master Timmns and Kothe for sure. I actually headcanon already that Timmns joins up with Tragen’s Alliance and is part of a regularly meeting tea group with Tragen and Jaesa. xD In a world where Jaaide is the Outlander and not an Intelligence Hire for Tragen, I would LOVE to see Kothe join up. I’d say Master Sumalee from the Smuggler story but BioWare did that in the most “Do he dirty” way possible and I’m only madder about what they did to Shara /cough

I’d love if Numen Brock could be a supply/intel contact or something.

When the two of you go trick or treating some of the kids do get scared of him because he's dressed like chewie and he's huge. He pouts because he didn't mean to scare them

His employees had a pool going to see how long it takes before Paz actually mans up and asks you out, and then another one fore how long it'll take before the two of you are married

If you would let him, Paz would never use a plate again. He would eat anything and everything off of you, but his favorites are sweets

Paz finally opens up to you about his impotency issues one night and you hold him close telling him that, that doesn't matter to you

But also like imagine, one day while you both are still dating, you've missed your period for a month or two, but you don't think much about it because you can't have kids with Paz right?

Well you go to the doctors because something is obviously wrong, and because it is procedure they run a pregnancy and it comes back positive and you're just floored

When you get home and Paz asks how everything went, worried about you, you just blurt it out and Paz freezes

He doesn't know what to think, he's overjoyed and he loves you, but he isn't supposed to be able to have kids, so is it his kid? He quickly yeets that thought away because he knows and trusts you

After that he goes full daddy bear mode and is protective of you and just constantly trying to hover over you

Din absolutely melted at the sight of Grogu feeding the animals, it made him so proud of his son

Grogu loves all of his stuffed animals and he is constantly playing and talking with them

Copilot (342)- the eternal WIP which fills me with SHAME, because "Han adopts Rey" still objectively strikes me as a good premise for an AU, but (1) the subsequent films didn't seem to find their relationship as interesting as I did and (2) by now, I have no doubts some genius has already written it, and better than I could!

Coming Home (299) - Proof that therapy fic and tragic parent-child relationships are....kind of an Avani thing? Welp.

Kathodos (230) - I am delighted but also...kind of surprised this one is so popular??? Anyway, I enjoyed turning the Hades/Persephone myth on its head, and my recip in the challenge was both lovely and seemed to enjoy this, so that's what really matters!

Enchantment Passing Through - (193) Eventually I might finish this, I guess, but it would involve a lot more planning and outlining and HP-deep-diving than I particularly want to at the moment. But again, I am so grateful people seemed to have liked this little prologue and been so kind about it!

In theory, yes, but I've gotten so far behind it doesn't seem like I'll catch up for a bit!

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

*shifty eyes* Hahaha, angst? Me? Surely you jest. Seriously, though, one of the Tumblr Mahabharata break-it AUs? Or if it has to be on AO3, personally I thought Sarvaga was the saddest, but if any of you guys disagree, I'd be curious to know!

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

*laughs* Oh boy, do I ever. Um, aside from those already mentioned, there is a perma-drawer fic Baahubali/Black Panther crossover featuring dreamworld friendships, which is probably the weirdest thing I've actually even started to draft....

have you ever received hate on a fic?

If I have, I'm plainly too oblivious to realize it. Mostly, though, I think that this is because my readers are unbelievably kind to me.

do you write smut? if so what kind?

I don't, largely because I'm no good at it. I'll stick to innuendos and the occasional off-color joke, for everyone's sake.

Yes! With the fabulous @parlegee, brainstormer/beta extraordinaire who patiently reads all my overenthusiastic drafts/notes and doesn't laugh.

Ooh, this is a hard one. Um. Lois Lane/Clark Kent was probably an early one I imprinted on, but also Pratham/Gauri, the leads from a really terrible but also hilarious Indian soap from when I was a kid; Amarendra/Devasena probably works its way up to a lifetime one from all the thinking/ficcing/meta I've done about it; and honestly, I've been a Krishna/Rukmini stan since I was a wee one (Female agency and strikes against patriarchal-arranged-marriage FTW!)

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Eventually, we will finish the Ramayana space AU because it really is the best of our crazy AUs. It just--might take a bit until then.

what are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, characterization, plot, humor (I hope?)

what are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes, smut scenes, That One Scene you need to get the plot from Point A to Point B but is boring as anything to hurry up and get done.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

IMO, best used as a garnish/minimally--otherwise, you risk breaking readers out, even if they are familiar with the foreign language you are using. That said, there are always exceptions: in Sarvaga, linked above, I use the direct transliteration of dialogue in Tamil, because a translation wouldn't at all convey the duality or the intent of it after all.

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Really bad Lois and Clark fic, IIRC, which were mostly syrupy missing-scenes and episode tags.

what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I think I have to go with Nidhana, simply because I can't believe I actually finished a multichapter fic with an actual plot!

Torchwood - Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue

The barbecue one is up on the Torchwood EU website (torchwood-eu.xyz).

Mind the content warnings for this one. They’re a bit spoilery so I won’t put them here. However, you can see them on the website. Or, if you don’t want any spoilers but are worried about a specific trigger, feel free to ask me if that trigger is in there.

There are already three reviews on the website: all 5 out of 5 stars! That makes sense because damn is this an amazingly written one!

What can I say that’s spoiler free?

There is definitely a double crescendo in this audio. The increasing tension due to the antagonist of the month is paralleled with the increasing tension between the protagonists.

The suspense for both tracks builds and builds (in a wonderful way) and both resolutions are outstanding. Things that have you wondering at the beginning make so much sense with hindsight and you end up wanting to listen to the audio again with the new information.

I think what I like best about this story is that it takes you places you didn’t expect it to go. And, something rare for Torchwood, it doesn’t just give closure on the plot but it provides emotional closure to the characters (and by transition to the audience) as well.

Speaking of the characters, this story shows why Rhys and Ianto are such good characters and good people. And the actors portray them brilliantly.

Basically, I laughed, I cried, and I ended up wanting to immediately listen to it again.

I’ll put live reactions with full-on spoilers below but first…

Next month: We have a far shorter title for a character with a for longer title. Queen Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India and Defender of the Faith is back in The Crown.

Okay, (a lot) more thoughts - but less organised and with some fic plot bunnies to be adopted - on the barbecue one:

What it implies about Gwen and Ianto’s relationship makes me so happy.

Ianto’s grief/trauma/shitty life being acknowledged was overdue and feels very satisfying. I found it interesting that he didn’t mention his mom in the list of people he lost. She is generally headcanoned to have passed away by that point. That made me think of a potential very angsty fic where she’s still alive during Children of Earth.

Things that made me cry: the phone call with Deirdre, the conversation between Rhys and Badger at the end.

Things that made me laugh: “We’re pulling on the fabric of space-time Rhys and yes, I guess we’re also hugging it out.” I love them both…so much…

Things that are brilliant: Rhys and Ianto acting a bit off at the beginning being unsettling until you realise there are reasons for that.

Give a guinea pig to Ianto 2020! That man sure loves his pets!

…on second thought…maybe not…

Speaking of, (mild spoilers for Outbreak) fic idea to continue Ianto and Gwen’s adventures with ruined ties: Ianto asking Gwen to reimburse him for the tie because it “died” in his duty to help Gwen. Gwen definitely thinks it was a shit tie.

Another fic idea: this audio from Gwen and Jack’s POV. I mean, it’s only five minutes from their perspectives but these five minutes pack some whiplash for them.

That story made me emotional about (spoilers for Ghost Train) Rhys knowing he can go to Ianto in Ghost Train because he helped him before.

Another another fic idea (though it could work within the previous one): I have so many questions about Ianto’s phone call to Jack at the end. Was he all business? Did he try to shrug it off? Did he open with “My tie just got stolen by a guinea pig named Bunny”? I bet Jack wouldn’t be surprised by that last one. He’s used to having Ianto start conversation with weird openers. But he would be worried. He knows Ianto uses this kind of non-sequitur when he’s not sure how to broach the real subject they need to discuss. Avoidance technique ftw!

I’m a little bit in love with Bunny. She can have play-dates with Steve (though I don’t know if either would get along with Myfanwy).

Hiding.

HACKING, to include some questionably legal manipulation of the Intel mainframes for the purposes of playing a competitive game.

Swoop racing (actually just a dream, he hasn’t raced anything YET, but he’s working on building a racer)

Model building, he has a complete set of working model ships and vehicles

3. what abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?

All of his skills he’s worked very hard to develop and become proficient at.  He started out at a disadvantage, not being able to concentrate in class and having difficulty remembering things.  He worked very hard to overcome this.

4. what things are they bad at?

Anything involving emotions. :’D

5. what is their most impressive talent?

Knife fighting.  Also dancing, he’s capable of some very impressive dance moves.

Black

Dark blue

Depends, but he starts SWTOR at 17 years old.

Properly.  Although, left to himself on something comfy, he likes to pull up his legs and snuggle under a blanket.

Usually curled up on one side.

Before meeting certain people, it’s holed up in his room either working on his models or studying tech manuals.  After meeting certain people, it’s snuggled on a sofa with something sweet and hot to drink, wearing thick sweater and socks, and either watching the fireplace or a movie (with a fire in the fireplace).

4. what is their major comfort food? why?

Some kind of hot, creamy soup.  Certain people made something like this for him on cold days or to help him feel better.

5. who is the best at comforting them when down?

A feeeew people: Seran-vin ( @askcarminelegacy​), Ziminder ( @kaosstar​), Ahuska ( @dingoat​), possibly a couple others. ♥

D: Decoration1. how would they decorate a house if they had one under their name?

Blakk’s DK stronghold is typically done in cool colors with sleek, industrial lines and clean, minimalistic styles, although he does favor green, so that’s probably here and there.  Left to his own devices though (and maybe some interior decoration hints), his ideal house would probably be decorated warmly, with a more natural, welcoming style of furniture.

2. how would they decorate their child’s room?

Blakk would not have a child. XD

3. how do they decorate their own room?

Same as above, except littered with pieces of tech and various flying vehicle models.

4. what type of clothes and accessories do they wear?

The best in Imperial fashion - clean, sharp lines, asymmetrical styling, appropriate use of contrasting colors and accents, usually a darker color spectrum (unless white or silver).  No flowers.

Accessories include knives everywhere, a stealth unit, comms, Intel-tech grappling hook.  Less practical accessories include possible hat, white or black gloves (or dark green if he’s wearing green), earring (just one, asymmetry FTW), or choker. 

5. do they like makeup/nail/beauty trends?

No.  Except when disguised as a woman, then of course whatever is tasteful and stylish and matching his clothes.  Possibly sparkles and/or tattoos in interesting places if left up to Watcher Two. ;)

Yes, very much.

To the classic “Imperial norm,” yes.

Tasteful trends in fashion.  Other trends, generally not; Blakk is something of a lone wolf and finds it hard to group along with others.

Blakk unintentionally does not portray his full personality.

Blakk has never told anyone.  He thinks “allowing” himself to be beat up is a severe weakness, and he’s pretty demoralized that no one noticed or stepped in.

Uhhh I do a terrible job of tracking what I did when.  Just about the time I started SWTOR, I created Blakk.

2. what inspired you to create them?

Blakk is the what-if Imperial universe version of my Jedi Knight Zakku’an.  The “what-if” brainstorming determined how his personality changed, and his appearance is the result of what I liked when changing Zak’s appearance with the character creator. XD

3. were they different when they were first created?

As Zak, he was very different.  More optimistic, friendly, and light-hearted.

4. do you enjoy writing them more than other characters?

Yes!

5. what’s your favorite thing about them?

Everything, especially how he has a chronic, “dig himself into deeper and deeper holes” problem. XD

Z: Zebra1. what’s their favorite animal?

He hates animals. Wolves.

Not generally.  Although one day he will end up with a varactyl named Featherhead, an akk dog he will be Force-bonded to, and a pack of miniature blurrgs named after his friends. 8)

[Where My Twin Watches]: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 25

Last time: The last Goth was too shy to make an on-screen appearance, Fuhrer Bradley had a nice peaceful dinner with his family, and Roy and Ed competed for the title of “In The Worst Spot”. Onwards!

Ed’s wandering around some hellish landscape that’s giving me flashbacks to AoT (brrr), blaming “that idiot prince” for getting him stuck wherever this is. Ling does not appreciate the peasant calling “the future emperor of a nation” an idiot. Ed’s running forward to check on his friend teammate associate, but then comes to a halt. Right, they got trapped with a shapeshifter, didn’t they? Ok, Ling should be good, no one else could make reciting the hotel room service list a threat. As for Ed? A quick “little runt” test and Ling’s convinced as well. Now, how to get out of here? Episode 25 - “Doorway of Darkness” The two looking around, noting that everything in here is stuff that Gluttony has “eaten”, like the house they were keeping him in earlier, the Lieutenant’s car, and even all of Roy’s fire that is oh-so-conveniently providing light in this cavernous space now. Tardis space ftw! Ed has a brief moment of panic when he sees Al’s cutoff hand, calms down when they realize that he was outside the Eraser Gun. Well if he’s outside, is there any way to contact hi- [Ed, spazzing out and waving Al’s hand around]: “Ahhhhhhhh!!! Conveniently awaken, telepathic powers…! Elric brother telepathy!” [Ling]: “Yyyyeah, good luck with that.” After that failed “attempt”, they continue on, looking at all the different time periods of rubble in the Stomach. Still, Ed’s confident that they can find or make an exit. Even if the Well idea is a bust, and “running in a straight line to reach a wall” isn’t working… Oh hey May, how are you? Aw, sad that your panda was accidentally kidnapped by Al? Come on, don’t be sad (or put out the fire with your tears, please). Backstory time! First about the panda (disease while young kept her from growing, abandoned by her mother, taken in by May), then for May Chang herself; her clan’s one of the lowest of the fifty in the Xing Empire. [May]: “Maybe that’s why I was drawn to her. She looked so helpless and weak, I couldn't help but identify with her. But at the time, I guess I just took pity on her more than anything.” So after an initial bite, we get scenes of them growing up together, even sparring. Daw, sibling bonds. Something you and Ed can talk about, next time you meet up and aren’t dealing with a rebel fighter. Aw, Scar’s been lurking in the shadows while May waxes on about her adopted sister, probably making his own flashback connections. Sorry dude, you already had your history episode, it’s May’s turn now. Just let her talk about her motivations, how giving the Xing emperor immortality is the last hope for her clan (like Ling, dammit why can’t both clans be saved?)... nope, Scar’s fed up with being out of the spotlight and tells the other two to get moving. Or not? Daw, are you really gonna help her find the panda? Yoki proves he has at least a few brain cells, noting that as one of the last Ishvalan survivors Scar “knows a thing or two about loss.” Back in the Stomach, Ed and Ling are still trudging along, Ed’s so desperate that he’s promising to let the freeloading prince get anything he wants from room service once they’re out. But even that’s not enough to keep Ling going, he collapses and tells Ed to keep going. The Fullmetal Alchemist rants and raves that he’s not letting someone as weak as Ling drag him down, he’s off to find the exit. Yup, totally leaving. Seriously leaving him to die. Not messing around…. Yeah, no points for guessing that when the “threats” weren’t enough Ed just picked the prince up and lugged him along, ranting about how they both have too many people waiting for them outside. But then he collapses too, and both are left gasping for breath on some rubble and so hungry that they made Boot Soup. After their “filling meal”, Ling apologizes for getting Ed trapped, but the Alchemist just blows it off as not even being as bad as what Teacher put him and Al through. Optimism? Nah, just sheer stubbornness. And fear of Al’s metal fists if he actually gives up. Hey, there’s the third prisoner of the Stomach! Ed immediately begs to be shown the exit, Ling can’t even start properly arguing about asking the enemy for help when Envy bluntly states that “there is no exit”. Yikes, it’s so tough not even a Goth can get out? Hmmm, so this is a semi-Portal of Truth. Not like the real one that Ed and Al went through way back when, but a failed experiment by Father to make his own Portal. Hmm, showing a limitation of the Goth��s creator then. The point is, these three are stuck in a place in between Reality and Truth. As for what they can do? [Envy]: “All we can do is wait here to die.” Midshow pictures of May Chang, Shao May the panda, and Envy. Ed is not very happy to hear this, accusing Envy of lying as the Goth just sits there and grimaces. Still furious, Ed demands to know who their Father is, when Envy scoffs that Bradley is just another Goth. He’s piecing everything together now; the Fifth Laboratory, human sacrifices to make Stones, Homunculi, Ishval… Envy laughs at that one, says it was an “enjoyable job”. Whoa, seriously? Envy was the one who pulled the trigger? … kick his ass, Ed. Back outside, Al’s sitting in a forest clearing with a little bird on his shoulder and Shao May at his side.

Roy of course asks the obvious question first, why Bradley’s bothering to let Roy live when he knows so much. Bradley says that Roy wouldn’t learn his lesson if he’s dead. Like Hughes… [Bradley]: “Why must everyone make such a fuss over the death of a single soldier?” Oh, what the flip. Bradley was trembling in anger at Hughes’ “screeching child”?! Dude, you suck as a parent. But the Fuhrer brushes off the idea that Selim is a weak point for him. Roy, on the other hand… By the car, Riza’s waiting when Fuery runs up to report that he’s being assigned to the Southern Command Center. And Breda’s being sent west, Falman to the North… and two guys in black coats come up to reassign First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye to Central Command Center. [Riza]: “As personal assistant to Fuhrer Bradley.” So that’s it. Riza is stuck under the watch of Wrath now. Oh yeah, there was that whole “Ed and Ling are stuck in a hellish in-between realm facing down Titan!Envy” thing going on, we should get back to that. The two are getting their butts kicked, when they get a moment Ed’s able to transmute a (tacky) sword for Ling and get his own arm into Blade Mode. They’re beat up, but they have to fight! Meanwhile, the music’s building as Al follows Gluttony, shocked to see that they are heading towards… oh for Leto’s sake, Father is based in Central itself?! ...WHAT. The Invisible Girl [sonamae]: OK SO it’s Hagakure-centric, with background Hagakure x Shouji and KiriBaku. My favorite part about this is that the romance is important, but not the focus. The focus of this oneshot is on the family she creates with Bakugou, Satou, Todoroki, Kirishima, and Tokoyami. Go read it, it’s great. BIG BROTHER BAKUGOU FTW!!!!!

Ground Zero [sonamae]: Speaking of Big Brother Bakugou, this is the next oneshot in the same series as the above one, but from Bakugou’s pov. Again, the romance is important but not a focus, and that’s so fucking refreshing and I love it so mUCH idk what else to tell you. Just go read these two. The rest of the series isn’t complete, but these two specific fics ARE, hence why they’re in the Complete section.

Lighting The Beacon [M3zzaTh3M3z]: This is one of the first bnha fics I’ve ever read, and I’m so glad this was my introduction to the fandom!! It’s a pretty fluffy oneshot, starting off with Kiri asking Baku out and Baku rejecting him because “who ever heard of a gay hero?” Aizawa hears about that (the basics, no details like names or anything), and things…start to change. Mic says he’s married to a man (its Aizawa), All Might comes out as pan, ace Midnight…and at the end, Bakugou asks Kirishima out very publicly. It’s so near and dear to my heart, and it honestly deserves more attention than it gets.

You’re only relevant until you’re older (they’re gonna talk about you over and over) [futurehearts]: Pro-Heroes Red Riot and Ground Zero are happily married and Baku has a reputation to slowly destroy :D (he’s soft, mainly for his husband, and he knows it…and now so does the rest of the world lmaooo).

Love Notes [PurplePersnickety]: Kirishima gets really, REALLY sappy love notes on his desk for a week or two and works to figure out who it is (spoiler alert, it’s Bakugou being a Soft Bitch). When Kiri asks him about it, he confesses everything and they date in secret for six months before telling the whole class (oneshot).

Sonder [Maplefudge]: I bet this bitch thought she wouldn’t get a shout-out well guess what you write good and there’s nothing you can do about it This is the first work of maple’s I ever read, and it’s perf <3 I’m love. It’s a look at the “totally platonic” (how much sarcasm can I add to two words?) Kiribaku from members of the class, over the course of 13 chapters. It’s full of fluff, useless mutual pining, obliviousness, and “platonic bro kisses”. Read it if you need to scream at some useless gays.

Anger Management [Julietwasanidiot]: The entire fandom is gearing up for S4 by writing hurt/comfort KiriBaku post-raid fics, and I am HERE for it. Because of when it’s set though, there’s going to be spoilers so if you’re anime-only you migt want to steer clear of this one. It’s got an ICONIC rice-and-anger line, though.

Stupid Mistakes [lemxnfox]: Kirishima and Bakugou got in a fight! They fight a lot, but this fight they’ve been fighting for six months and the class is #OverIt. They concoct a plan to lock the two of them in a room and force them to make up– and they DO. Side ShinKami and TodoDeku.

No More Fragments [Ischemia]: Canon-compliant…to a degree. Shinsou takes his place as the Superior Purple in Class A, gets himself a boyfriend (Kaminari) and a squad (the Bakusquad)…and loses it. Or does he???? Canon-typical violence, side Kiribaku, mystery plot.

Caught In My Own Web [anxioussaliorsoldier]: SHINSOU IS IN 1-A!!!!! And he fucks up when trying to use his capture weapon lmao. Kaminari finds him and they recreate the iconic Spider-Man kiss…and then Shinsou passes out from the blood rushing to his head. It’s cute guys.

Be Selfish For Me [A_Reflective_Projection]: WARNING– the entire thing is Aizawa asking 1-A to be careful as pro heroes, by taking them to a hero graveyard. It’s painful. It’s sad (especially when Aizawa brings up a classmate of his who died in their first year as a pro). It ends bittersweet, and there’s some good Dadzawa content in there. The most present ship is Erasermic, and that only really makes an appearance in the last chapter.

Closer [MikeWritesThings]: Fluffy Erasermic, canon universe, where Aizawa starts calling in to Mic’s radio show cuz he misses him. It’s sweet af ❤️❤️

Meaningless Holiday [dysonQueer]: It’s a sweet Valentine’s Day fic, canon-compliant, with established Erasermic for the soul. I highly recommend it if you’re having a rough day and you need some feel-good fluff

Come Back Toe Me [Milligramme]: Aged-up, Pro Hero fic where Kiri has a shit day heroing, but he isn’t physically hurt. Not until he breaks his toe on the coffee table, that is. He can’t stop laughing, and Bakugou can’t stop worrying about his dumbass boyfriend.

Kiss Me Through The Screen [Ischemia]: Aged-up fic with ShinKami as the main focus and some side KiriBaku, but…uh, most of the Bakusquad aren’t full-time Heroes. Kami dropped out of UA completely, and Shinsou never went in the first place. So, Kaminari is working at Jirou’s cafe and works as a SFW camboy at night, while Shinsou is a teacher and watches the stream nightly. Hands Off! [PullingAllMighters]: Much like Kiss Me Through The Screen, Hands Off! is a non-canon compliant aged-up AU where not everyone is a full-time hero. Kiri is, Kami and Sero are his sidekicks, Ochako is in a different agency, and everyone else is doing Other Shit. Bakugou hasn’t revealed his full backstory yet, but it looks like he was a Pro Hero until a year or so ago when something bad happened and now he’s got PTSD. His old apartment building burned down so he’s living in Ochako, Momo, Jirou, and Mina’s guesthouse until he finds a job and another place to live. This has a fresh take on the hero system, and I really really enjoy it so far!! Fantasy AU, slowburn Kiribaku, and it’s. I can’t even sum it up. There’s too much. It’s too good. Game of Thrones WISHES it could be what BomH is. There’s mention of slavery and past child abuse, please skip that if it’s going to trigger you!!

A Boy and his Dragon [VanHan]: Oh look, another fantasy AU. Have you figured out that I have a type yet? Kiribaku but the Kiribaku hasn’t really happened yet, cuz Bakugou is a literal child who got kidnapped and is probably gonna get sold. He doesn’t even know Kirishima is Kirishima, he just knows him as the cool dragon in the cage. This one just barely makes the SFW list, because there’s no explicit mention of fucking, but there’s a really really gross pedophile that shows up fairly early on and hasn’t died yet. There’s also graphic depictions of violence in the first chapter, and once you combine those two things I would absolutely understand if you decided to give this one a pass, too.

Everglow [Maplefudge]: ANOTHER fantasy AU?!?! In MY fic recc list?? It’s more likely than you think. This one just started, and it’s got that enemies-to-lovers shit going on. Dragons plus my favorite tropes = FUCK YEAH!!!

Crimson [Crocodillia]: I bet you thought I was done with the fantasy AU reccs, didn’t you? Well, HAVE ANOTHER!!! This one has strong HTTYD vibes, and I’ve literally never seen anyone try that before with these characters!! So far there’s only two chapters, but I am HOOKED and if you like HTTYD…you’re gonna like this, too.

Becoming Human [FoolishFortuna]: Demon!Bakugou becomes Human!Bakugou when he refuses to take a kid’s soul. I think we’re three chapters in and he just got to earth and met Kirishima, as well as a few holy people (Midoriya, Ochako, Iida, and I believe Tetsu). Now he gotta find his daughter and keep her safe. Kiribaku with some fairly graphic descriptions of torture and cannibalism in the second chapter, don’t read it if that’s gonna trigger you!! Also he pretty brutally rips apart the girl’s abusive parents.

Surviving for Second Chances [SilentNorth]: TWEWY Kiribaku AU!!! There’s some differences between the original game and the fic, for pretty obvious reasons (medium, objective, and character differences being a few), but this got me to FINALLY watch a playthrough of the game cuz I’m too broke to go and buy it myself!! Kirishima as Neku and Bakugou as Joshua, plus Mina as Shiki and TodoDeku as Rhyme and Beat. Canon-typical violence, and we just finished up Week 1!!

Love And Other Allergens [thefrailtyofgenius]: A Quirkless AU where Todoroki is a lawyer with a flower shop underneath his apartment. Todo finds out he’s allergic to one of the plants, buys a different bouquet every week instead of, yknow, asking for help like a normal human being (I say, knowing damn well I’d just buy allergy medication and not even try to figure out what I’m allergic TO), and accidentally falls in love with the cute (and absolutely fucking ripped) flower boy (Midoriya lmao). It’s LONG. The TodoDeku is extremely slowburn, and there’s a fuckload of side ships. An incomplete list: Erasermic, Kiribaku, ShinIida (Shinsou and Iida), and MomoJirou. Opposed to the Typical [Heronfem]: A model/fashion designer AU featuring HoH!Bakugou, model!Bakugou and designer!Kirishima, as well as a metric shitload of others. Basically Kiri is an intern with Fatgum who gets called to help another studio with their fitting, gets assigned to Bakugou, figures out he’s HoH and handles it like a champ. Because he does it so well, whenever Bakugou needs to get his measurements taken again, they immediately call for Kirishima. Steven Universe AU

Homeworld is ruled by two tyrannical leaders, Lord English as Green Diamond and Her Imperious Condescension as Pink Diamond. They exist in somewhat caliginous relationship where they compete over who can be the most ruthless dictator. Their empire exists only for their selfish gratification. However, they both want more opportunities to explore the galaxy conquering other worlds.

So they create two new diamonds in their image, (Green) and (Pink), who represent Jake and Roxy. They are Diamonds, and thus above all the other gems, but the two main Diamonds do not see them as their equals. Jake and Roxy are basically figureheads at home and mostly deal with managing Homeworld while Green and Pink are gone. Jake and Roxy have little freedom beyond their duties, and both dream of a life free from their current responsibilities.

A while after their creation, Roxy and Jake both received their own Pearl for their good behavior, who represent Jane and Dirk. Jane is Blue and Dirk is Orange. Jane was given to Jake and Dirk to Roxy. The four of them are happy together when they are on their own. These two young Diamonds finally have other gems they feel like they can talk to. Jane and Dirk are programmed with their duty as Pearls, but they easily open up when their Diamonds treat them as more than that. They all become real friends.

But when the other two Diamonds return for the first time, Roxy and Jake are faced with the cruel reality of Jane and Dirk’s role in society. What belongs to (Green) belongs to Green, and what belongs to (Pink) belongs to Pink. Lord English and the Condesce are cruel to them, in every sense of the word. Seeing the other Diamonds treating their Pearls like trash is the final straw for Roxy and Jake, and they begin plotting a way to escape from Homeworld.

Their plans are put into motion after Dirk defies Green Diamond to protect Jane and is set to be shattered. Roxy and Jake take Jane and Dirk, steal a ship and run away as far from the empire as they can. They both disguise themselves as an Emerald and a Rose Quartz when they enter spaces with other gems, and they spend so much time in those forms they come to prefer them. (They do naturally look a lot like their Diamond counterpart, so honestly they both want a chance to reinvent themselves.) They spend a couple hundred years just hopping from planet to planet, never stopping for an instant.

They all end up on planet Earth, once their last ship finally gives out. Fortunately, the Earth is many light years away from any gem controlled planet. For a long time, everything is okay. They live their lives content for many years together, filled with happiness, but also some interpersonal drama typical of the Alpha kids.

(As a note, in this AU, Jake and Dirk have always preferred to present masculinely, but once they settle down on Earth, they identify more solidly as men. They adopt many traits traditionally associated with men on Earth because they resonate with those traits. Trans headcanons ftw!)

Roxy is the stabilizing force that keeps everyone together despite how many fights and disagreements they have. However, one day Roxy falls in love with a human man. It is not the first time she has fallen in love. But it is the first time she has ever thought about having children. And then the main plot of the story really begins.

I don’t usually respond to these kinds of aggressive ask,but I guess you lucked out because as it happens I have an axe to grind on thisparticular topic. Consider your bait taken.

Let’s start by making one thing crystal clear: my issue isnot with the show (or the fandom) depicting, celebrating or enjoying dads,Bellamy or Dad Bellamy. I’m very much up for celebrating the loving nurturing parentalrole Bellamy takes in the context of his space people and, with a little morecomplexity, his sister too.

And, believe it or not, I’m looking forward to Bellamydad-ing Madi too. More on that shortly. This axe isn’t going to grind itself.

No, my problem is with the following

Clarke: adopts a child after putting in considerable andpainful long-term effort to earn that child’s trust, enduring a bear trap andthe child’s animosity and aggressive behaviour. Spends the next 6 years nurturing and caring for the child, taking onsole responsibility for its emotional and physical wellbeing. Clearlyidentifies as a parent. Child identifies her as a parent figure. Actors andcreator confirm this.

People: Is she a mother though?  I’m not sure I’m getting that vibe? Why isshe a mother? Why isn’t she a sister? This needs further examination and anessay of justifications. Pls explain.

So, anon, seeing as you’re the expert on haters, perhaps youcan explain to me which of two equally gross things are happening here.

Is it:

a)    People are pissy/dismissive about Clarke being amother because they think that in some way diminishes Clarke? In which case*record scratch* and goodbye

b)   People are pissy/dismissive about Clarke being amother because they don’t think she’s sufficiently earned it?  In which case *chin hands* please do tell meabout how Bellamy has earned it and Clarke hasn’t I’m sure it’s fascinating.

You see, I *am* a parent and this shit bothers me.  We deify and celebrate mothers, until they’rethere in front of us, inconveniencing us with their snotty, noisy offspring. Thelabour of childcare is still overwhelmingly undertaken by women. Deviation fromthat model takes active care and consideration, as well a measure of defiance, asympathetic shared parental leave model and understanding and sympatheticemployers and family.

Hard work and sweat and tears and labour is expected fromwomen to raise children.  For free.Without comment. Without a huge amount of value, until….

….until men do it.

Now, I am lucky enough to know enough great fathers(including the father of my own children) who also put in hard work and sweatand tears and labour to raise their children. Frequently in equal measure to their female partners. Because, likeBellamy, they take their responsibilities seriously and they want to share theburden and the joy alike with the people they love.  But for them, for all of that work they’repaid a societal credit.  Change abum?  A pat on the back. Look after thekids while the wife goes to work? You *are* good. Know how the washing machineworks? She’s the lucky one.

All of this, taken in the whole, forms part of the pictureof how we value women.  It’s behind thegender pay gap.  It’s behind rapeculture. It’s behind ageism. It’s behind female disempowerment. It’s behind themany many patriarchal microaggressions which amount to: a woman is worth lessthan a man. And the real life assortment of gendered cultural expectationsaround parenting that underpins this whole Clarke-Bellamy parenting complex isthe same assortment of gendered expectations that weigh upon my life as amother.

So, if your takeaway from my post is that I’m here chompingat the bit for Madi to be disappointed in Bellamy because they’re real peopleand that kind of thing is like catnip to a hater like me then…idk anon. My eyesdon’t roll back that far.

My position as of 503 remains the same: Madi’s perception ofBellamy is based on stories rather than actuality of Bellamy himself.

Maybe the show won’t go down the route I speculated in myprevious post, but as a parent, the story of how a child comes to see you asyou really are as a fully formed human is one that resonates with me.

Either way, I hope the show bothers to give that relationshipnuance and meaning; to give Madi some agency in how she perceives Bellamy and to deepen their relationshipwith mutually earned respect and love.
