It’s actually not a ‘top/most butch AK woman’ poll ...kinda
sorry at first i just wanted to archive some of my favourite comments (even though most of these should be edited copypastas) from that poll on weibo; explanation for title at bottom of post because i got carried away as usual
Those who don’t vote for Gladiia, Aegir will spit on them, Laurentina will drag them from Rhodes into the deep sea, their descendants will be abandoned by Skadi, and their soul will suffer from Nervous Impairment. But for those who vote for Gladiia, even if they didn’t pull any Abyssal Hunters, the Second Captain will forgive them and unclog the toilets on Rhodes Island, Fate will offer them an extra favour, and Revelations will always be by their side¹🙏 To those who don’t get how Gladiia is a 1² , farewell!
Vote for Gladiia! (Crawling in the dark)(Screaming)(Twisting)(Creeping in the shadows)(Screeching)(Writhing)(Screaming)(Crawling)(Tumbling)(Scrambling)(Splitting)(Hissing)(Stops moving)(Low roar)(Squirming)(Dividing)(Walking onto shore)(Warping)(Spasming)(Floundering)(Attacking indiscriminately)
Are you looking for【Margaret Nearl】⁉️ The Radiant Knight🌞?Or (this) golden pegasus🐎?Or perhaps Kazimierz’s most radiant King of Kings💜 🎐No matter which one you are searching for💐 💦 Whether you are just a passer-by or a fan of Margaret Nearl💖 She is Terra’s fiercest T³🥰Rhodes Island’s no.1 Top🏅Her strength and Blazing Sun side-by-side 🎀 Today(’s forecast) will be Sunny with a star falling🌟Please give a vote to Margaret Nearl💑 !!!
Margaret Nearl, my groom, my husband, my betrothed, my Husbando, the source of all my desires, my yearning, my dreams, my lover whom I will never part away from, to not cast a vote for Margaret Nearl would be kind of sad, for it means you cannot appreciate this kind of combination of hard and soft with eye-catching beauty, those who do not vote for Margaret Nearl will be in trouble 🙏
What does the cat say? Meow; What does the goat say? Baa; What does the cow say? Moo; What does the dog say? Saria you are the no.1 T on Rhodes 😆 Your impartial gaze makes me lose my mind 😆 So handsome I cry until my tears hit the corners of my mouth and turn into the Qiantang River’s tidal bore You are my god and my star lighting up the darkness in my life You let me make sense of the world I turn I jump I dance a tango on the balcony you made me realise that God does exist 😆
Saria is such a gentle and strong father whose love is like a mountain and yet a conventional woman should stand on top of all lesbians Husband without you I really don’t know how I can continue living
Hoshiguma (is) my 184cm T-sis forever!!!! Who would refuse a Lungmen civil servant!!! Firefighting on the Lungmen gay bar frontline⁴!!! Rides motorbikes and goes on joyrides everyday and drinks and grills(BBQ)!!! If she’s not a 1 then who is!!! If Hoshiguma isn’t a 1 then there’s none on the whole of Terra! If Hoshiguma isn’t a 1 the entire Terra is 0!!!! (licking screen emote x7)
The 194cm Hoshiguma from the closed beta test isnt enough to make you dizzy?? 😲😲😲😲
TL notes
1. IS3 mechanic references 2. basically 1 = top 0 = bottom (switch is 0.5) sorry the girlyaoi is real
3. Okay so the poll’s ‘judging criteria’ is actually 无敌炫酷 铁T灭火器 which is something like ‘Unrivaled dazzling 铁T Fire Extinguisher’ “What is that word you didn’t translate” I hear you ask
Okay so... I don’t think translating 铁T to just ‘butch’ like that one twitter account did carries the whole meaning. (shout out to that one QRT that was something like ‘wtf y’all definition of butch is ???” YOU’RE RIGHT)
If you look up 铁T it gives you pretty much the same definition that looking up stone butch on wikipedia gives you; “so T is butch then?” WELL... the etymology of T comes from ‘Tomboy’ but ermm basically it’s not a rigid label that can be easily translated to western/globalised terms but more of a fluid identifier used very specifically in chinese spaces, this article is a pretty good read
So anyway that’s why I left the Ts as-is (FWIW when i first saw it i was like is that a no.1 handsomegirlbossmalewifehusbandwomanthattops contest???)
further reading material
4. what’s up with the firefighter/extinguisher???
It’s a reference to a really old clip from a Taiwanese variety show where the host was describing how he went to a gay bar and it caught on fire and the owner fled while the T from the T-bar opposite them picked up an extinguisher and offered help
tl;dr: 1)‘butch’ doesn’t really cover it
2) they’re not using the term in CN literally either (my take on a badly worded transliteration would be something like ‘who would be the ultimate handsome chivalrous top’ if you take off the first few layers of shitposting) that’s why none of them in the poll look like butches lol
And that’s why I voted Hoshiguma even though I don’t think she fucks/is a 1 but i also don’t think saria is a 1 either but that is for another day

ABOUT:
Daily photo posts of one or more members of the American rock band “the Mountain Goats”
Images will be posted on/around 12pm EST
Image descriptions are in ALT text
I will provide the years/context for the image to the best of my knowledge/ability in the caption. If the year is being guessed it will be followed by a “(?)”.
As well, I will do my best to cite image sources.
All posts on this blog will be tagged with #tmgimageaday , so if you’d prefer to not see these posts in any tags, blacklist that!
This blog is run by @taboovithehomecoming.
FAQ:
Q: How do you get these images?
A: My boyfriend and I have a shared folder of *at least* 4k tMG photos (my computer says it’s 2GB) that we have been compiling since before we started dating. Many are much better than what I frequently post, but are hard to source due to the fact that they were saved without sources. Frequently to find things to post I trawl Flickr or Twitter. Both are goldmines.
Q: Can I submit an image? A: Absolutely! The submission box is open with the following guidelines: The image must be cited or sourced
The image must not be a personal image a fan took with a member of tMG, i.e. I will not post your selfie with JD.
The image should be of good quality. I love a good potato-pic, but I try to keep things as crisp as possible here (with some exceptions, it’s my gimmicky Tumblr, I get to make/break the rules).
If you are the photographer of any photo here and would like it to be removed, please send me an ask/message me a link to the image and I will take it down posthaste.
Wanna tip me for any reason? My Venmo is: @/pranaferox

microfiction, August 1 - 7
They accused her of selling love potions that drove men mad. How insulting; she wasn’t in the business of using her craft to warp the minds of men. That was too easy. She turned the intruders into rabbits and let them think about what they’d done.
-
There is a storm locked in her bones. She speaks a word and the skies ignite—flash of lightning, crash of thunder. You can taste her rage in the rain, bitter on your tongue.
-
The Dusty Knight is gloomy—more than usual. He found the Lost Hall of Lost Weapons, but he can’t find his sword. “Couldn’t he use a spear instead?” whispers The Doll. “Don’t suggest it,” says the fox with two tails, “the spears in here are nothing but trouble.”
-
The Shaw family curse is invoked with a solar eclipse. It isn’t specific; your aunt turned into a tree, your great-grandad a bluebird. Your sister is now a billy goat. If the family member is very fortunate, they transform back with the moonrise. But not everyone does.
-
The door was left open, and that’s how the ghosts got out. All except for Small Annie; she was stuck, waiting for her bother to come home like he promised. But he’d drowned in the river on his way, so who knew where his spirit was now…
-
We knew the end of the world had arrived when the giants showed up, sundering mountains until the sky began to fall. The stars erupted as they hit the earth, spreading fire and ice—the last star, curiously, spread hope, which we felt, impossibly, in the dark.
-
Find me. He first heard the voice in his head when he was six, when he dove too deep at the lake. He heard the voice on random days, never recognizing it until he was sixteen. He walked into a used bookstore and the girl behind the counter said, "You found me."
-
Enter the Queen’s Garden by the West Gate. Avoid the fountain at all costs. Three trees are in the center. Pick the flower at the top of the real one. Beware—two trees are decoys of barbed wire and broken glass. If your blood is drawn, the garden will try to keep you.
-
The room went grey when she died. She couldn’t leave; no one could see or hear her. She couldn’t move a cup, or book, or chair. She could only look out the window, watch the tree turn from bare branches to flowers, to green leaves, to red. Over and over again.
-
Grandad said visitors from the stars made a maze of caves under the city. They disappeared, leaving behind a monster that would devour everything if it got out. Sacrifices were sent into the depths for generations. —Until you, Theseus. You must live up to your namesake.
-
I don’t know how long I was a zombie, or what happened after the bite—I don’t want to know. I came to in the lab, wearing only my underwear. “It worked!” exclaimed the very attractive Dr. Sully. “Cool. May I have a shirt?” My vocal cords would never fully recover.
-
We opened the tomb with a grunt. The mummified body was wrapped in finery. And there was the source of the ancient king’s power: an arm of petrified wood, set with glowing jewels. —What are you waiting for? Grab it! —He’s your ancestor! You do the tomb-robbing!
-
This was peak entertainment for the bored Zekarian population: abducting humans, transporting them 3 million light years away, then forcing them to fight to the death—at least until a jaded tech-whiz hacked their weapons systems, making their alien abductors the prey.

liveblogging some Cyberverse episodes here instead of on twitter bc twitter’s everything is pathetic. :D I haven’t done this in years haha
EPISODE 3
skipped the first 2 eps bc i bounced hard off them a couple years ago skhfdgk. bee and windblade were never exactly my Faves lol.
episode opens with a goddamn cool ship!! ugh i love the forward wings! Also bee being a super distracted driver is hilarious omfg. I dont believe that man has a drivers license lmfao
ummmmmm the allspark is talking??? yeah id be creeped out too be lmfao
starscream’s alt mode lowkey looks like a moth??? from a certain angle at least. thats actually cool.
this op’s va is definitely trying to sound like peter cullen (actually succeeding pretty well!) and imo it wouldn’t be bad at all if his lines actually sounded like speech and less like proclamations. actually that’s an issue with a few of the other characters too, he’s just the most obvious.
im definitely spoiled by tfp’s fight scenes, this one had hardly any weight to it XD
OP YOTE THE ALLSPARK INTO THE BRIDGE SKHFKDHG
EPISODE 4
holy shit i love wheeljack lmfao
GRIMLOCK GOT TENTACLED?????? LMAO WHAT??
omfg Optimus is a) SUCH a dad, and b) SUCH A DAD. ugh i love him praising the Autobots, and him gently redirecting Wheeljack after the explosion was such a joy skhdfkgjhd
Those critters are kinda cute! I sort of understand OP’s hesitance at using the energon, especially if the deposit was only very small - does it really make ethical sense to take the perhaps only energy source of a population of creatures for a potential gain of, what, maybe days? (At least this is the interpretation I’m going with lol)
EPISODE 5
Bee’s waking up on a snowy mountain with a goat. Where are u bee?
Oh, the Himalayas. XD Ok thats fair lol, mountain wildernesses are good for hiding shit.
holy shit bee getting distracted watching infomercials and game shows is a mood skfjhkj
ohmygod windblade u have wings, just fuckin fly away
“What was your name again” WINDBLADE OMFG
ok the choreography of the fights is rly off, someone is always making stupid mistakes or not taking opportunities and the overall effect is just meh, manufactured suspense.
EPISODE 6
holy shit im skipping a bit i just cringed into oblivion
[headdesks] ok OP wtf? “I do not intend to start a fight” promptly does so anyway.
SHOCKWAVES ANGRY EYEBROW OMFG.
ok I love TFP starscream’s voice but this one is good too! XD he sounds so smug and judgey in every single line skhfkdhj
Ok, again, children’s show, but there was no depth in that exchange. Megatron’s got the Villain Stick and he’s hanging firmly to it, OP has no nuance and his writing is hanging just as firmly to the Hero Stick.
also I’m having trouble taking Megatron seriously because his goddamn head looks like its squeezing out of his tiny braincase and every single time he looks straight at the camera I L A U G H. He’s got a good voice tho! Hasn’t got the bombacity and charisn’tma of TFP, but it’s nice and threatening nevertheless.
EPISODE 10
im skipping ahead a bit bc i saw a pic of maccadam on tfwiki and oops he’s hot lol.
NO REGRETS LOL. SURPRISE BEE TO THE FACE LMAO
ahhhh the landscapes are so pretty, or at least that one was <333
fuck i cant deal w that Ratchet’s voice lmao
I enjoy this interpretation of Grimlock more than I thought I would XD. I love the meathead Grimmies A Lot but nerdjock Grim is cool too!
god soundwave dancing is amazing but then his BACKUP DANCERS fuckin kill me omfg skdhjfjh
hmmm ppl have been selling me on the megop in this but so far i aint feeling it lol. gimme a few more episodes and lets see XD
wheeljack/shockwave science buddies?? YES.
...mmmmmm friendship ended with alpha trion, i simp for maccadam now
DEADLOCK?????????? OK HES PRETTY!!!
aaand i still cant take Megs weird pinched head seriously lmfao, he looks like a sausage w half the stuffing squeezed out kjdhfkjh
UHHHH IM HERE FOR ELDRITCH GIANT MACCADAM???? EVEN HOTTER SKDFJ
“Find the king of the dinosaurs!” “Uhh, what’s a dinosaur?” I love that so much skdfhj
ok gonna stop there bc i zoned out and missed all of ep 12 lmfao. will do some more tomorrow, unless my brain comes back and I get to write skjhfjd

Survey #308
“you don’t need treats, and you don’t need tricks, and you don’t need me.”
Middle name? Marie. Or Marie Catherine, if we're technical, but as someone who loooong left Catholicism and never even agreed with many aspects of it in the first place, I don't like to include it. If you're confused, there's a ceremony called Confirmation, and while I honestly don't even remember the details of it, you adopt the name of a saint you want to stand for, kinda. I chose Catherine just because I liked the name outta my other options. Democrat/republican/other? I classify myself as Independent because I really don't relate well enough to either, but I do know I'm becoming more and more liberal with time. Do you dress according to your mood? My mood? No. I dress with what I feel like wearing at that time, but my actual mood has nothing to do with it. Are you good at doing hair/make up? No. Are you always worried or stressed about something? 24/7, my friend. Can you swim? Yeah. Are you afraid of needles? I don't like them, but I'm not afraid of them. How many kids do you want? Zero. Long/short nails? I keep mine short. Do you like wearing hats? No. Does mall Santa Clauses or Easter bunnies freak you out? Nah, I loved seeing Santa as a kid. :') Would you consider yourself clumsy? I am RIDICULOUSLY clumsy. Do you like when a guy picks you up in his arms? In concept, but I ain't easy to pick up anymore lmao. Do you like hairless cats? I do!! Females, anyway, for... obvious reasons lol. Not having fur makes some things waaay too ~obvious~ otherwise. I would love a sphynx. Do you like the color yellow? No; it's actually one of my most disliked colors. Have you ever seen a cat have a hairball? Yeah. Have you ever had a tooth pulled? Not by a dentist, no, just by myself as a kid when I was losing my baby teeth. When someone says don’t look do you look? It depends on why they're telling me to not look. Have you ever played spin the bottle? No. If you had to name three important details about you, what would you say? I'm a very emotional person, I need a lot of "me" time, and to be aware of my social anxiety so not every interaction I have is perceived as just a dumpster fire. What are your three biggest insecurities? My creativity, my goddamn body, and my lack of social skills. If you could write anonymous letters to three people, who would you send it to and what would you say? Ummm. I can only think of people I miss and don't WANT to be anonymous... Favorite photo of yourself? A senior prom picture I don't have anymore. I looked so, so happy and fuck my low self-esteem, gorgeous. Who are you disappointed with right now? I'm like, permanently disappointed in myself lol. Would you date an 18-year-old at the age you are now? No. My minimum is 21. What question do you hate to answer? "Are you a virgin?" because it's just a confusing answer. It doesn't sound like one at all, but trust me on this. The subject of sex just makes me uncomfortable anyway, so even if I was confident in the answer, I wouldn't want to talk about it. What’s your most listened to song? I don't have a way of actually finding that out, but I'd say I've been listening to "ULTRAnumb" by Blue Stahli quite a lot lately. If you were a performing artist, what would you title your first album? I mean, I don't know. It would depend on what was going on in my life and head at the time. If someone told you you could give one person a present and your budget was unlimited–what present would you get and for whom? A nice car for Mom. She's had the same shitty car for yeeeeeaaaaarrrrrssssss now because she just can't afford a new one; hell, this one was free. A dance friend hit a deer, so the front of the car is messed up, and she bought a new one, but because the car itself was still functional, she gave it to my mom. Mom is so loved at the studio. The car just has various issues by this point, like trouble starting, accelerating, it's bumpy, etc., so it's way past time for a new one. Do you like licorice? NOOOOOOOOOO that's a big 'ole "ew." Have you ever visited your country’s capital city? No, but I've seen it from a distance when riding up to NY. When was the last time you were outdoors for over an hour? WOW. I couldn't even try to guess. What is the shortest amount of time you’ve lived somewhere? The house I was born into. I actually don't know how long Mom and Dad lived there, but I was only in that house as a very little baby. I have zero memories of it. What’s your favorite kind of mint? (Peppermint/wintergreen/spearmint/etc.) ... There's a difference? lol I guess peppermint? What was the last thing to frustrate you? I wanted to draw yesterday, but I didn't know what to draw to even get started. Have you ever been to a bachelor or bachelorette party? No. Did any of your family members serve in WWII? I don't believe so? Well... maybe my grampa did? I don't remember. What’s your favorite kind of salad? Gimme an Olive Garden salad and I will deadass eat the whole bowl. Are you more realistic or idealistic? I'd say I'm more realistic with most things. Are you currently borrowing something from someone? No. Is anyone currently borrowing anything from you? No. What is your last name’s heritage/country of origin? Ireland. When did you last buy a new pair of shoes? What kind? I got new flipflops a year or so back because my old Rainbows were so worn out and blackened my feet. Have you ever experienced culture shock while traveling? If so, where? No. Are you able to see the stars at night where you live? I actually haven't checked since moving here. We're in the suburbs though, so it's questionable. Do you include your middle initial in your signature? Not unless it's required, usually. I think. When's the last time I physically signed anything, anyway? What brand of computer do you have? It's an Acer Nitro. What operating system does that computer run? Windows 10. What’s the oldest piece of clothing that you still own and wear? I don't really know, given how much my weight has fluctuated. Went drastically up, went down, now it's back up. .-. I still own a handful of shirts I want to "shrink back into" from late HS and early college times, but yeah, I don't know if I'll actually achieve that. Is the area in which you live flat, hilly, or mountainous? Flat as my ass. What is your significant other or best friend’s ring tone? No one on my phone has a "special" ringtone. Where do you keep your hair brush? There's a comb I use in a drawer in the bathroom. Which pair of shoes have you owned the longest? Multiple pairs of Converse, also from high school. When’s the last time you were sick at the same time as someone else? I'm very happy to say I don't even recall the last time I was sick. My immune system is the fuckin GOAT. What did you have for breakfast this morning? A pb&j. We've got very little rn, but thankfully Mom's picking up our Wal-Mart order today. Last time you were in pain? If I'm standing, you can bet my legs hurt, so. What color is your mom’s hair? It's growing back totally gray now. Is that also your hair color? Well, no, I'm only 25. Do you watch any daily vloggers on YouTube? Who? No. I watch people who vlog occasionally, but not regularly. It's gotta be people I'm very into to really be interested in vlogs. What room of your house do you usually do your surveys in? Sigh, I'm always in my bedroom. Really hoping Mom and I muster up the motivation to clean up the extra room soon to turn it into my "dayroom" or "office," if you will. What do you put on your tacos? I hate tacos. What is your favorite stuffed animal and where did you get it? I have a bittersweet connection to the adorable plush meerkat Jason gave me for Valentine's our first year together; I always slept with it when we were together by apart, and for a year or so after the breakup. It was a source of comfort for me, so I'm really fond of it. Fella's fur is so worn out and matted down with age and lots of love. He's on my dresser now, towards the front of all my plushies. Last thing you hung up on your wall? My Illidan poster, I believe. Do you have a full length mirror? Yeah, on the back of my door. Is it currently raining? No, finally. It's been raining for like a fuckin week, it seems like. It's finally a clear day. It's nice to hear birds outside. Does anyone you live with talk in their sleep? Does this happen often? I'M the one doing the talking/screaming in my sleep. Thanks, nightmares. When was the last time you cried, or felt tearful? I'm not positive, but I know I had a pretty rough PTSD night not too long ago where I teared up. Did you wake up with a song stuck in your head today? What was it? Ohhh yes; I've been listening to Mother Mother's "Ghosting" on repeat because it's jammed up there. When was the last time you used moisturiser or lotion of some kind? Not too long ago on my hands. They get dry this time of year, and besides, I wash my hands a lot nowadays especially. What was the last thing you owned, that was accidentally broken or damaged? Were you able to get it fixed? My laptop, and yes. Tell me about the last dream you recall having. Was it weird, amusing, etc. So this is pretty wild. I know I had a nightmare last night, but I don't remember it; the night before, however, I had a nightmare about a possibly rabid and ginormous rat (I mean like, smaller dog sized) in the house and trying to bite me. It was SUPER weird, because I was actually afraid of it, yet I absolutely adore rats in real life. What was the last video you watched on YouTube? I've really gotten into John Wolfe (a let's player) lately, and I'm going through his The Evil Within playthrough. Do your parents use any social media at all? My mom has a Facebook, and hilariously, Dad has a Snapchat to talk with my sister Nicole. He has no clue what he's doing with it and it's adorable, haha. Mom also has a Twitter, but she doesn't use it. Is there anyone in your life who regularly asks how your day has been? Regularly, no. I've always been that person, especially in the WoW guild I'm in. I'm very close and comfortable with them and ask how everyone's doing any time I log on. Lovely people who give me some social interaction every day. Tell me something positive about the day you've had. It's still early, but once again, it's pretty and bright outside. Why do you prefer Facebook over MySpace, because I know you do? Ha, you'd be incorrect. MySpace was more personal, so I actually preferred it. But it's obviously long-dead, so I just settle with Facebook. Have you read the Pretty Little Liars series? No. My sister looooves it, though. What product do you use to moisturize your lips? I don't remember, actually... It's in my purse somewhere. When did you start using Xanga? I never have. Be honest, do you judge people on their appearance? Judge, I don't think so. I can make assumptions like everyone else, but I'm not gonna think someone is beneath me just by their attire. Do you know anyone who does not like The Beatles? Me. At least, most songs. "Hey Jude" is good, but everyone agrees with that, haha. Did you have a friend in middle school that you’re now enemies with in high school? I'm long since out of HS. I had a middle school friend who I disconnected with following a fight in high school, but we weren't "enemies," and we reunited our senior year anyway. Aaaaand we're not friends anymore once again lmao. What is one thing you hope your children don’t inherit from you? If I hypothetically wanted kids, God knows I'd hope they wouldn't have my psychological issues. Do you think you’ll be married in 10 years? It'd be nice, anyway. What type of foundation do you wear? None. Who’s the most controlling person you know? Someone I'm no longer friends with, partially because of this. Do males look good in skinny jeans? Yep. Are you for or against guyliner? Ugggghhhhh guyliner makes me weak in the knees. How many jobs have you had? Where do you currently work? Three; nowhere. Who did you last hit? Um, nobody??? What way of self-care do you enjoy the most and what feels more like an obligation? I enjoy my alone time on the computer as the best self-care, especially after being social all day; I don't, however, enjoy the act of performing hygiene care. I still do it, it's just not fun. The feeling afterwards is great, though. Have you ever tried specific diet plans or fads? What made you do it and how did it turn out for you? I was briefly using NutriSystem, which didn't work for me. I hated too much of the food. More recently I stuck with flexible dieting and calorie counting for a while, but I drifted from it when I still lost no fucking weight in like a month. I want to get back to it, though... oh, and intermittent fasting. I don't think it really worked for me yet again, even though I did it correctly, but that and the aforementioned flexible dieting is all I feel like I can handle. I guess I just have to give it longer. Do you know anyone who has been directly affected by COVID-19 e.g. testing positive, losing a loved one, or their job due to the pandemic? Too many people I know have had it or had someone they loved die because of it. Take this shit seriously. Is there a kind of music you only prefer listening to during specific type of activities that you otherwise wouldn’t enjoy under normal circumstances (e.g. EDM while doing sports or instrumental music while studying, etc.)? No; I have to actually enjoy the music. If you had to start a YouTube channel and motivations/skills/resources/any other inhibiting factors weren’t an issue, what would it be about? Either animal (preferrably reptiles) education or let's plays, ig. Has anything ever happened to you that if you told someone about, they would think you’re making it up? I don't believe so. What travel destination or popular spot have you been to that you found overrated? What about a lesser known place that you thought was a hidden gem? I really don't know; I haven't traveled nearly enough for this.

Pick of the Month: Fortify Kitchen & Bar
Author: ArtsyChowRoamer
Pick of the Month
FORTIFY KITCHEN & BAR IN CLAYTON, GEORGIA
One of the main reasons we decided on a road trip to Clayton, Georgia recently was all the noise we had been hearing about the Fortify boys. The friends from days at Lake Rabun together that led them to open their own place down the road a piece. This post will give you all the info on why they are my pick of the month.
Owners Jack Nolan and Chef Jamie Allred have put together a stellar farm to table concept which these days seems to be the mantra of every restaurant. But they really mean it; putting together a video on their website and naming over 20 different local farms they are sourcing from to prove it.
This kind of resources allows Chef Jamie to change up his offerings seasonally. Having just released the fall menu you might think the usual suspects would be on there but there are more than a few surprises and his own take on some oldies but goodies.
RESERVATIONS SUGGESTED
It was suggested to us before that reservations were a good idea even before Covid restrictions limited seating to get the social distancing right. Even though we were visiting mid week 6:30 was the earliest available the week before.
I sent a message that we would like to get in earlier if they had a cancellation at opening time of 5. Don’t roll your eyes at that. We just have found that getting in at opening time insures the least number of people, the speediest service for shorter stays and the best sanitized situation for the evening.
Happy was I to receive a call that day around 2 that they would be able to take us at the earlier time as requested. We left our hotel up the street and walked the few blocks where crowds were already gathering at the door; some with reservations and some without hoping the earlier time would net them a sneak in.
CASUAL COZY ATMOSPHERE
The host and hostess were wearing masks along with our server I was glad to see. The bartender was also masked up and busy with social distanced diners being seated at the bar. This reassured me feeling like they were putting safety front and center for their customers.
The restaurant had a nice casual atmosphere with a coziness from metal details, old brick and traditional light fixtures with a modern twist. I noticed a sign with an arrow that said Local Art and realized that everything on view was most likely for sale by artists living in the community.
I took the opportunity to snap a few photos for this post to give you an idea of what to expect and some of the art the restaurant sports on it’s walls. The waiter dropped by to give us our menus and tell us about the specials for the day while we decided what kind of wine to order.
They have a very nice selection so I tried the William Hill Estate cabernet while my husband decided on a German white Riesling. Both selections were excellent and were terrific with the different breads offered in our bucket along with flavored butters.
FIRST COURSE
Since fall was in the air I decided that a good soup was going to be my first course and went with the Butternut Squash with pumpkin seed pesto, fried sage and a maple drizzle. My husband went for the Short Rib soup on the specials list.
Soups, salads and snacks ranged in price from $6-13. Choices included usual suspects like a Spinach or Caesar salad and fried green tomatoes but Chef’s take and local sourcing added ingredients like pickled red onion, candied bacon, roasted sweet potatoes, poached apples, goat cheese and house made dressings.
Not the usual suspects would be coca cola braised pork cheeks, fried gouda fritters or clams done in a Mexican style. Let me just say those fritters are addictive. One arrived in the middle of my husbands short rib soup and it was heaven in of itself.
The meat was fork tender and tasty like eating barbecue with this crispy melty thingy going on! Hard to describe but most definitely delicious. My soup was luscious, thick and rich with cream. The pesto and sage provided background flavors and texture with added sweetness from the maple drizzle; a perfect cold night Southern dish that will please throughout the fall season.
HARD TO CHOOSE AN ENTREE
We looked over the menu again to pick an entree and it wasn’t easy. He went with the duck breast in a roasted red pepper sauce and I wanted to try seafood and waffled back and forth between the trout and fried shrimp platter ending up with the shrimp. Pricing ranged from $18-35.
Both dishes arrived in a timely fashion as I snapped my pics with nicely composed plates. The only criticism I would offer in this area would be wiped plate rims to meet a more perfect expectation of this level of dining.
I tried the duck first. We were asked if we wanted it medium rare or more. We ordered it medium rare which is the way I think duck breast should be cooked giving you a crispy skin hopefully with a texture on the meat similar to a medium rare steak.
A word about duck expectations. My husband is from Eastern Europe where the duck is most often offered with the bone thereby allowing them to render that duck into fall of the bone capacity. My husband is always expecting that even when it isn’t possible!
I reminded him you can’t do that with no bones-it will only dry it out and make it tough. I loved the dish both texturally and taste wise with a polenta cake and crispy relish of shallots, mushrooms and grapes. Having said that if there were anything to wonder about it was the red pepper sauce.
Lovely in conception but not quite sweet enough for duck I think but I could be wrong. My husband loved the sauce. My dish felt like a homegoing homage to the South with the fried shrimp set off with collard greens, coleslaw and hushpuppies.
Chef’s version of cocktail sauce was a miss for me without the horseradish zing you want. I asked for the Remoulade which was much better and seemed to work well with the other flavors overall. Something called comeback sauce was offered as well.
I’m thinking my next trip will include the trout with lemon scented rice pilaf, pecan roasted brown butter and fresh dill. You probably would be happy with the beef, chicken or pork dishes on offer as well. Sides like fried rice, Napa slaw, beer battered onion rings and buttermilk mashed potatoes all speak to seasonal freshness with a wink to Southern preparation.
DESSERT AND SPECIALTY COCKTAILS
While we were too full to try dessert the choices were tempting and several included chocolate. The photo below will give you a good idea what to expect if you have a sweet tooth.
Besides having nice wine selections Fortify is pretty proud of their signature specialty drinks. There are 8 on the menu for $10 that range from a sour, to an old fashioned along with a Pink Panther and a Smoking Jacket. There is a pleaser for any taste here. The video below will give you a better idea.
A WORD ABOUT PI
Fortify became such an instant hit that they decided to branch out and add the location next door known as Fortify Pi and it’s all about the pizza. You can have one of their designs with the latest and freshest ingredients or you can make your own with different price levels of choices.
They are making some good pie in that restaurant. Sitting at the bar, outside or at a socially distanced table this more casual atmosphere makes for a lively entertaining lunch or dinner choice especially if you can’t get in to the other location. They were crowded as we were leaving from dinner.
CONCLUSION
All in all we enjoyed our road trip to this little gem of an artsy community. You don’t normally find this level of dining and commitment to ingredients in the North Georgia mountains. I can highly recommend you visit the area and don’t miss either of their locations. You won’t be disappointed.
If you enjoyed what you read you might also like other posts under Edible Fare and on Clayton, GA too. Hey, don’t be a stranger! If you visit, let me know what you ate and what you thought. Look for more upcoming posts on this area soon. Until next time…
Cheers!

33. moonlight for two (1932)
release date: june 11th, 1932
series: merrie melodies
director: rudolf ising
starring: n/a
our old pal goopy returns! or does he? that’s not actually him, just some standard harman ising yokel dog. as you may have noticed, each of the 1932 cartoons has alternated between looney tunes and merrie melodies consecutively, until now! two merrie melodies in a row. moonlight for two has the dog and his girlfriend going to a dance, but, as always, trouble brews.
look at that beautiful background! already getting a beautifully atmospheric start. the little poodle from freddy the freshman and goopy geer meets this lanky goopy doppelgänger, who’s leaning against a tree and playing the harmonica while the poodle hums “she’ll be coming around the mountain”. smitten, the dog greets her with a “howdy, y’all!” and doing a little dance reused from goopy geer. some birds atop a tree branch twitter and tweet, indicating there’s a flame between the two. lovebirds.
since it’s a merrie melody, the happy couple launch into the song “moonlight for two”. as is standard, the vocals aren’t the greatest, but the music is catchy regardless. there’s also a scene where they skip and frolick to an interlude of “spring song”, complete with the bird’s chirping in the background. what a creative little interlude! it certainly reminds me of carl stalling’s scores (he comes into the scene with porky’s poultry plant in 1936, which is also frank tashlin’s first directorial credit).
just because, the two of them hop on a cart that goes barreling down a hill towards a log cabin. they crash into the cabin but remain unharmed, the cabin logs neatly stacking up one by one to reassemble, good as new. a cartoon staple!
another obstacle blocks them in their path, this time a tree. they crash, and the cart turns into a wheelbarrow, with the lanky dog pushing his sweetheart around. they go over a bridge (that sags into the water, borrowed from hittin’ the trail for hallelujah land).
cut to a good ol’ fashioned barn dance. we have some shots of two dogs square dancing (above), a goat using his foot as fiddle strings (strange substitute), and two mules with their tails tied together, forming a jump rope for a little cat to jump with.
nighttime shots with a giant moon and the appropriate lighting like here make me so happy. they’re so beautiful! i love how rustic the setting is here, very nostalgic and cozy. the lovebirds arrive to the dance and crash the party.
cue the dance sequence! the lovebirds do their thing, and in early 30s fashion, a wood stove takes a life of its own and shows off a jig of its own. these inanimate objects coming to live gags amuse me to no end, just because of how corny and trite they are. the background vocals for this scene are divine! good music is so important to me in a cartoon. it can totally make or break a short. a bad cartoon can be saved with a good music score, but even the best of cartoons suffer if the music score is poor.
a wiener dog couple is happily dancing together, when one of the dogs chugs some alcohol (moonshine?). the alcohol is potent, and literally burns his abdomen, making him short and squat instead of tall and skinny like his girlfriend. no matter, they continue to dance. disparity in height also makes for a good source of comedy, and here we see it work. highlights also include a goat using his banjo as a spittoon and the goopy doppelgänger dancing rhythmically with the stove.
is it a harman and ising cartoon without a villain? of course not! enter this rifle sporting villain, who immediately flirts the lanky dog’s girlfriend. the lanky dog cries “stand back, villain!” (self aware of the tropes in these cartoons? 🤔) and receives gunshots in response.
lanky dog tries his best to dodge the array of bullets coming at him hot. as shown above, he lands in some spittoons in the midst of his panicked scramble, and dashed away, spittoon clad and all. he kicks them off, decking the villain squarely in the face.
enraged, the villain throws himself on top of the dog, and the two of them tussle (complete with some blinding flashing action going on in the background).
anthropomorphized wood stoves come in handy! the stove leans over and burns the villain twice, threatening to spit fire in his face. the wood stove corners the villain and blocks the dog from any harm, turning to the side to expose a crank. the dog turns the crank and hot coals shoot out of the stove at the villain like a machine gun, sending him running.
thus, our story ends with the stove and the dog shaking hands. iris out!
this cartoon is relatively average as far as harman and ising cartoons go. the pacing is a little slow at times, primarily towards the beginning, but it picks up as time goes on. the backgrounds were stunning! they were very moody and beautiful, so that’s always a plus. the underscore was gorgeous, and the harmonized voices during the dance sequence with the wood stove were captivating. unfortunately, a lack of distinct personality in the characters (and the female counterpart disappearing for half the short once more—seriously, it feels like every cartoon the woman just disappears!) does bring down the rating of this short, but there’s more personality in it now than there was a year ago or two years ago. slow and steady! so, average cartoon, not terrible, but nothing outstanding either.

Vasuki and Washuutski
This is from an old post:
The Washuu name itself may be connected to the tale of Vasuki. Source x, and also @hysyartmaskstudio, and @karnasofsun on twitter.]
Nagaraja, or king of the naga or snakes, is a hindu mythological word associated with several separate king dragon/snakes. One of these is Vasuki, which in japanese is rendered as Washuukitsu. Vasuki has several myths about being tied to a mountain or holding things together. [x]
The chapter entitled “Saved from the Web” also featured this nod to hinduism, but at the end the characters who showed up, in spiderweb imagery on the background of their panels was V. Either as a reminder that Urie had not truly escaped from the Web, or they had been the ones who maintained the web by setting up the conflict that drove him there in the first place.
Hindu mythology also shows a war of binary opposition, between devas and asuras (angels and demons respectively), when one side became weakened they sought a ritual stirring of ‘Kasian Samut’ which is the ocean of milk, which thickened and concentrated will become the nector of immortality.
Vasukira, king of the naga had to bind his massive body around Mandra the mountain, into Kasiam Samut in order to mix it. The devas also used the asuras into stirring for them, by saying they will share it with them when the ritual ends. However Vasukira grew tired and released poison by the end of the ritual.
The connections to tokyo ghoul then, are a bit obvious in this chapter alone we are given a small sampling as to what might be the source of the ghoul’s extended vitality.
Vasukira releases both a poison and it brews an immortality elixir the same way V views the poison that is released by Dragon as a source of life for them.
There are already pieces of foreshadowing in place to suggest that either V, or humanity at large is seeking immortality through ghouls, or at least at the labor and behest of ghouls the same way Asura labored for the immortality of the Devas at the cost to themselves.
V already also has in their possession, a way of preserving their grown up garden children who are destined to only live half lives, and also the members of the Oggai operation who were revived via ghoul cells. It’s likely that this medicine may just be the dissolved ghouls, pure rc cells then packed into liquid bottles and traded in secret by V. They also use a giant grinder in order to make them, and oh so conveniently, have a war going against the ghouls which provides them with a near infinite supply of dead ghouls in order to continue making this medicine if it really is concentrated Rc Cells.
V has also, already disposed of the main head of this brewing process in Furuta’s hostile takeover. Perhaps modeling the same way Washuukitsu, in order to make his immortality elixir did so at great cost to himself and his own body.
Achievable immortality, the mixers are definitely V, but they were born with half lives in the first place. They’re probably desperate to extend their lives by any means possible not rule over humanity forever with immortality. It’s more likely that the race of angels, the humans in this metaphor will be the one to reap the benefits of the conflicts created by ghouls and half ghouls. At least if things were to continue to spiral uninterrupted.
This is where I brought my original post to an end but, I’d like to discuss on that point as well. Let’s talk about the morality of V’s reckless way of extending their lives for a moment. Take doesn’t really have any kind of comeback for Kaiko’s taunts, even though he knows the truth of Kishou’s wants and sacrifices perhaps better than anybody else.
It makes sense that Take doesn’t really have anything to say in response though, as I’ve said in the previous two chapters, nobody on the side of the alliance has really surpassed V morally. Technically they’re fighting for the right side because they don’t want the world end, but in a good philosophy bad philosophy sense we don’t really know what the moral philosophy that the Goat Alliance is fighting for because they don’t even know themselves.
Take himself even describes the mist that causes ghoulification as a “toxin” as if V accepting the poison into their bodies somehow made them dirty, or unclean now that they’ve become ghouls.
It is a toxin in a sense that in some patients it’s causing cancer like symptoms and tumor formations, but what about the cases where all it does is turn them into ghouls. Of course, unwilling change of species is still a violation of the body but a human doesn’t suddenly become lesser if they are transformed into a ghoul.
There are some patients who aren’t experiencing the ROS overload or cancer like symptoms that Saiko displays, some of them are just turning into plain old normal ghouls. Of course the world would be unsustainable if everybody turned into ghouls but do those people really need to be cured? Wouldn’t it be more practical to just stop the spread of the poison and find a proper food source and education source for all the new converted ghouls instead?
The thing is, being turned into ghouls unwillingly, living as ghouls is still seen as the worst fate ever (even to Take who was part of a ghoul rebellion), because the vast majority of the cast hasn’t even solved nor thought about the central conflict of the series. They all have a case of “ghoul icky.” So we see V’s desperate attempts to extend their lifespan in an entirely unsympathetic light.
V is chopped apart horrifically by the CCG agents and ghouls alike, but it’s fine, they’re the bad guys, they’re completely disposable. In the manga which has been arguing against “otherization” tactics when fighting enemies and dehumanizing them, there’s a suspicious lack of any humanity in V itself.
V however, are a matured zero squad They’re grown up garden kids. It’s explicitly confirmed for us in this chapter, but it was laid out by Furuta a long time ago.
They’re quite literally bred and then raised from birth with the sole purpose of killing ghouls. Unlike all the ghoul investigators who chose their job, and can walk away any time without any consequence at all and just quit and start a new life, the V agents are born into this life and they only have a half life to live such a pitiful life in the first place.
Before you say I’m sympathizing with V though, I’m not, they’re obviously the villains. Yet at the same time I have to wonder if Goat has any moral high ground over them, and if that’s the challenge the narration has to take. V is undefeated so far, because the CCG’s tactics are V’s tactics, and Marude hasn’t changed anything at all from his playbook besides “listen to Hide sometimes.”
The Washuu are much more responsible for the state of the world, and they were the ones actively breeding human beings, conducting human experimentation and profiting off of it. V were cogs in the machine who went along with Furuta’s plans for a coup because it was literally their only way to keep living.
Matsuri frames his revenge against V as a noble revenge against his father, when V was dispatching a tyrant who controlled all of their lives from birth, and profited off of it entirely. There’s also the fact that Marude, and Hide are completely okay with cooperating with Matsuri. Matusri’s entire reasoning for doing so is not because of regret for his actions, he doesn’t feel an ounce of regret for what he did as a Washuu and a ring leader of V. He’s only doing it to survive when this is all over.
As for the loss of human life it took to create dragon, quite literally nobody in the entire cast cared that Kaneki devoured 100 children willingly in order to extend his own lifespan as well.
Then there’s Kimi, who was completely okay with Dragon happening if it allowed her to prove the useful medicine of ghoul science. Medicine is a life extending technique as well.
Her motivations are also entirely selfish as well. It’s not that ghouls are killed simply for what they’re born as, exterminated on sight without even due process so innocent ghouls are just as likely to be killed as mass murderers. She needs to change the world so she can get back together with her boyfriend.
It makes me wonder if in a way V itself are the asuras of the myth. They’re the ones being tricked into brewing the immortality elixir for the rest of society, because as bred half ghouls and garden children they’ve been disposable since the beginning. They’re the other and the bad guys, so nobody cares that much if they’re overcome by the alliance and slaughtered entirely to produce a better world where ghoulification and ghoul medicine are now norms for humanity to reap the benefit of.
In the past, V was at least being used that way by the Washuu in order to stage their shadow conflicts. It’s pretty clear V considers themselves a separate entity after the Coup, so all of their earlier actions were much more likely orchestrated by the Washuu before Furuta took control, for the benefit of solely the Washuu.
As I’ve said before, not a lot of these characters care that much about the actual morality of the ghouls vs human conflict. That’s something they need to do in order to ideologically overcome V. V is bad because they kill ghouls, but they were half humans raised from birth in order to do so. There are plenty of human characters in the cast who slaughtered ghouls left and right in the past with no remorse at all, and completely chose that lifestyle. The CCG is like a day job they don’t punish deserters they could have left the conflict any time. V are half ghouls they were born into it, the conflict is literally inseparable from their beings.
To make a better world, these characters first have to think “How am I better? How will I be better?”
The theme of the manga ultimately is “Live”, so it’s rather fitting that the motivation of the villains is a simple desire for them to live as well.

Because this asshole decided to spew a bunch of absolutly WRONG information and then blocked me so I couldn’t reply, we’re gonna do it here because its so fucking WRONG that it needs to be fucking corrected.
This statement was clearly not about people who hunt or people who live in areas where they need protection from wildlife such as polar bears.
My statement was about using guns against people. About every idiot being allowed to own a gun.
And if you think that carrying a gun is helping anyone, then lemme ask you some questions too:
You think it’s free speech that kids shoot themselves on accident when parents are leaving guns out?
Think it’s free speech that kids shoot up schools?
Sure, gun for self-protection sounds very nice. Until you use your brain and discover that other people are also allowed to carry guns. What are you gonna do when the people come into your house carrying more than just a knife?
What about the people who suffer at the hands of guns?
Fucking kids.
Is that free speech? Is that necessary?
There are other ways to protect yourself. Non lethal.
Most areas you’re not even properly background checked. Three days for a licence?
Yea, in trained hands a gun is lethal. That is not a good thing.
Free speech? Don’t make me laugh. Guns don’t protect your free speech. KKK is walking through the streets like a fuckin carnival parade and screaming free speech. And they can carry guns. And they will use them. Is that what your free speech is? Or is it teens shooting themselves in the head? Shooting their bullies? Vigilantes? Kids who think guns are toys. Police who have an excuse to shoot kids because they’re apparently carrying a gun?
The threshold is so low.
And yes, i live in a place where it’s fucking dangerous. And i know other people aren’t allowed to carry guns so why would i need one? I’m not afraid of using a knife if i should ever feel the need to kill. At least then, it’s personal and i know I’m fully responsible.
1)
As someone who lives in a country with gun control, never in my life have i ever needed a gun.
I have never even felt the need to have a gun.
Ya’ll just brainwashed js
This was NOT in response to people who hunt. At least, it sure as hell wasn’t OBVIOUS. Also, polar bears? You know there are other dangerous animals out there, right? Dangerous animals that exist ALL OVER THE WORLD, even in your own back yard. As I noted before, large bears (aka black and brown bears are SUPER common), large deer (the one my uncle shot while protecting their goats was a record setter in my area. it was HUGE), foxes and coyotes may not seem like a huge threat but they ARE and you show your ignorance of wildlife when you dismiss them. Other than that you have mountain lions, wolves, moose, venomous/aggressive/HUGE snakes (I have pictures of a 6 foot rat snake my uncle had to kill on their property cuse it was eating their chicken eggs and was a threat to the baby goats), wild pigs, large reptiles, large birds (most moderate to large predatory birds can take off with a chicken at least and even a baby goat. not to mention how easy it is to take off with a small to medium sized dog).
2) Humans ARE a threat. Period. No, its not good to go around seeing every single stranger as an imminent threat but they CAN pose a threat. Wanting to protect yourself is not wrong.
3) How the HELL do you go from me saying “a well armed public is essential to the protection of freedom of speech” to you accusing me of thinking shooting a CHILD is free speech?! I gave you very clear examples of what I meant. A dude in Scotland was arrested for making a joke on the internet and had his life thrown into chaos for 2 years. Its been 4 or 5 years since the incident and he STILL has problems just finding a JOB not to mention the death threats he still gets that the cops dont give a shit about. A woman in Britain was arrested in front of her daughters and held for 7 HOURS, unable to call anyone to check on her young children, all because she offended someone on twitter. Police in the UK have cited people for carrying a fucking SPOON on their person. You have to have PERMISSION to own a STEAK KNIFE. You give up your right to defend yourself, your right to hold your government accountable for its actions, then you give up your right to freedom of speech. Its. A. Fact.
4) I live in Illinois. My state has some of the HARSHEST gun control laws in the US. We are the 4th highest in violent crime, beaten out by the likes of California and New York. Why? Gangs. Gang violence is the PRIMARY source of gun crime in the US. These people do not get guns legally. No amount of gun control will stop someone from getting a gun illegally. Why should I, a law abiding citizen, be refused the right to protect myself when someone who wants to hurt me can easily get one illegally? Why should I HAVE to defend myself with a knife when they CAN get a gun? Why cant I have the means to fight back?
5) If gun safety was taught in schools then the number of accidental deaths/injuries by guns (which are a large chunk of gun death/injury statistics) would be cut to almost nothing. Not knowing what a gun can do and how to act around them is a SERIOUS problem in the world in general, let alone in the US. Accidental deaths by guns didn’t happen often just a few generations ago because basic firearm safety was common knowledge. I SERIOUSLY suggest anyone who has an issue with guns to actually take a firearms safety class. 99% of fear of guns would be wiped away if people just KNEW about them.
6) Kids shooting up a school or killing their bullies is not the fault of guns. Its the fault of our bullshit public school system that punishes kids for standing up for themselves and belittles the harm psychological abuse does. If they cant get a gun they will use a knife. If they cant get a knife they’ll use a bomb or acid or worse.
7) Yes, actually. The KKK, Arian Brotherhood, Communists, Socialists, BLM, Black Hebrew Israelites, Nation of Islam, all of them can say whatever the fuck they want. Thats what free speech MEANS. Free speech means nothing if you are not willing to stand up for speech you do not agree with.
8) The taking of a life is already illegal. It doesn’t matter what tool the person uses. HH Holmes confessed to killing at LEAST 27 people; likely his body count was over 50; never used a gun. Jack the Ripper, 5 women no gun. Jeffrey Dahmer, 17 victims no gun. Harold Shipman, 217 deaths (likely closer to 250) no gun. Pedro Lopez, over 300 victims no gun. These people didn’t need guns to kill dozens, sometimes hundreds of people. They used other tools. Are their crimes inherently less horrible because they didn’t use guns?
9) You aren’t allowed to carry a gun. That does not mean that someone else wont. Just because there is a law saying other people shouldn’t have guns doesn’t mean they wont. People who will break one law (breaking and entering, assault, ect) dont give a damn about gun control laws. Again, taking a life or harming another person is a crime already. Criminals. Do. Not. Care. But if a rapist with a gun himself has two choices, the girl with the gun and the girl without, he’s going for the girl without.
I’m not brainwashed, as you so elegantly put it in your first reply. I’m simply pragmatic and understand the world is not filled with rainbows where everyone just goes along with the laws like happy little drones. My life is in my own hands. Its up to ME to protect myself, no one else.

P1. WHAT IS ‘PUBLIC RELATIONS’ (PR)?
If you want to excel at maintaining a relationship with clients, it is IMPORTANT to understand the definition of ‘Public Relations (PR)’, and how PR fits in the media industries, especially in three different sectors, (public, private and charity).
Public Relations (PR) is a strategic connection process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organisations and their publics.
PR is also considered as a practice of deliberately managing the release and spread of information between an individual or an organisation and the public, in order to affect the public perception.
____________________________________________________________________________
WHY IS PR IMPORTANT?
The main objective of PR is to MAINTAIN a POSITIVE REPUTATION of the brand and maintain a STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP with the public by guiding them to exchange ACCURATE INFORMATION, so therefore, the public will be more likely to believe that the organisations can be TRUSTWORTHY, which leads to a positive image of the organisations.
____________________________________________________________________________
HOW IS PR DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS (PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND CHARITY)?
Role of PR in Public Sector:
PR contributes to the national economy by delivering reliable sources of information to the public, in order to keep the public INFORMED about the economic and social issues. As therefore, PR SUPPORTS the public sector companies with structuring messages about contribution made towards the economic and social well being of the people.
Role of PR in Private Sector:
Even in private sector organisations, PR plays more or less similar role. Unlike both public sector and charity sector organisations, all private organisations are PROFIT-ORIENTED, which PR focus on supporting MARKETING EFFORTS relating to product launch, brand awareness, image and positioning.
Role of PR in Charity Sector:
PR plays a crucial role in helping to DIFFERENTIATE charitable causes, as charities are struggling to raise an awareness of complex issues or encouraging people to donate to good causes. Fortunately, PR can help charities identify and create hooks to make their events more NEWSWORTHY, in which this increases the chances of PRESS COVERAGE and more DONATIONS.
____________________________________________________________________________
EXAMPLES OF WHAT GOOD & BAD PR LOOK LIKE?
It’s essential to identify what would consider to be a GOOD PR and a BAD PR, as we wanted to ensure that we are delivering the message in the CORRECT FORMAT, otherwise if we are not too careful with the structure of the message, it will backfire at what we are trying to achieve, and this mistake can cost us our reputation.
GOOD PR:
#RateMyKFC
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZFp0qeYB6M
KFC wanted to do “something a bit different” to the wave of Coronavirus, so they decided to create a new social media campaign, #RateMyKFC, which has encouraged people to make their own versions of its chicken wings dish and post them on social for the brand to critique. It has garnered hundreds of tweets and an engagement rate of 101% among its followers over the past six weeks.
KFC decided to take the risk. With the reopening of their restaurants in May, KFC utilised photos from its #RateMyKFC social media campaign to showcase some of the nation’s best and worst attempts at creating their famous chicken recipe over lockdown.
BAD PR:
Mountain Dew TV Commercial, 'Nasty Goat in Jail' / Banned Advertisement.
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdFRWf-CNC8
PepsiCo has pulled an online video advertisement for its Mountain Dew brand after critics lambasted it for portraying racial stereotypes and making light of violence towards women. Boyce Watkins, a professor at Syracuse University and an outspoken social critic, called the commercial "arguably the most racist commercial in history."PepsiCo took to Twitter and Facebook to admit it was a “mistake” to run the ad and apologised for any offence caused.
____________________________________________________________________________
HOW CAN PR HELPS THE LONDON BOROUGH OF HOUNSLOW?
Like many government organisations, the London Borough of Hounslow (LBH) needs PR to help with running various of campaigns, in order to increase an awareness of economic and social issues for residents. It is essential for the LBH to build/maintain a GOOD RELATIONSHIP with residents, so they are able to work with residents and understand how they can assist residents further. For instance, it’s important to inform our residents how they can access support with their housing issues, recycling + waste enquires, safety issues and so on.
