To(l)k(i)en Black, and how South Park over does characters

‘Member Randy? I mean, remember when he was a relatively uncontroversial, pretty well liked character. I wasn’t his biggest fan, but I enjoyed him well enough, I felt he didn’t overstay his welcome in episodes but still managed to deliver a full story. I feel like this was the general consensus. But over the years, probably starting when Randy won the Bro-Down in 2015, he’s become much more disliked. He’s a rude, asshat, weed farming, terrible father who overtook like 4 whole seasons.

To a much lesser extent, I feel like something similar has happened to a Mr. Butters Stotch. I never liked him, his character type just tends to not be my favorite, but I think they’ve changed him so much, and not for the better. They took the “cute guy says some awful things” joke too far, and now he’s just kind of a jerk. I don’t think he got overdone to the extent Randy was, but he still got so many episodes that they ran out of things to do with him and began to turn him into an asshole (with arms and legs and everything).

And I feel like something similar might happen to Token, (who I will call Token because every time it’s written down in the show, it’s spelled like that [The List, TMI, South Park is Gay, etc]). His first episode, Here Comes the Neighborhood, is pretty decent, Token is a good character with realistic personal motivations and a pretty funny song. I like him, I feel like he had potential to be a great character, if he was developed a little more. But recently he’s become more of a central character, and we’ve lost a lot of the character we used to have. It hasn’t happened yet, at least not like Randy or Butters, but I feel like we’re on track to over-do him.

This could just be me, but Token is becoming so nothing. He doesn’t really do his own thing anymore, just becoming a prop, sort of a character for other characters to interact with, in usually racially motivated episodes. I feel like this might turn him into a character that just sort of takes over episodes, but doesn’t really do anything. Let me be clear, he hasn’t yet, I still like Token and his role in the show, but I’m nervous that he’s going to shift into a worse character and ultimately make the show less enjoyable because of his Flanderization and how over-done he is modern episodes.

I feel like the show has a tendency recently to go “oh people like this character” and then make them the star of every single episode until fans of the character and people who don’t like them are sick of them. Or “oh they like it when this character does x” and then ruin the fun for everyone because it’s not a sometimes thing anymore. Or they take those things and inevitably run out of ways to use that character or idea, so they put it into situations where it does not work and end up making the character into an unlikeable hodgepodge of terrible and underdeveloped traits.

So i remember an ask mentioning your mortal enemy, Felis Atra and their cats, and i thought it'd be fun to draw what Felis Atra's version of your italian dogs would be.

I think they would be called Butter Knife and Flamengo! Butter Knife is not his real name, it's an nickname given by his peers because of how harmless he is. I choose Flamengo because that's the name of Vasco's rival football team here in Brazil, so i thought that was the perfect name :)

Cat Machete was slightly inspired by the Oriental Shorthair cat because of their long noses and thin head shape.

Cat Vasco was inspired by the Scottish Fold cat, because FLOPPY EARS. I gave Flamengo longer ears and orange fur to make him more like his look-alike.

The last doodle is a reference to this ask (https://canisalbus.tumblr.com/post/728923918314946560/me-i-am-machete-ear-fan-number-1-those-ears) and contains the tumblr ask stand-in dog, whose cat version was inspired by the American Curl cat! They have round ears that are slightly floppy outwards.

Final notes: I know cardinal clothes don't come in vibrant blue, but i was ADAMANT on switching Machete's and Vasco's clothing color patterns. I would draw the rest of Butter Knife's and Flamengo's clothes, but i suck at designing cool outfits.

Speaking of outfits, for Machete's iconic void outfit, i figured it would be fun to make it more baggy for Butter Knife, in contrast to Machete's, that looks very tight-fitted. I think it's cute, it kinda looks like a sweater. Also i can't imagine a Machete doppelganger without high heels boots, so those HAD to stay.

Oh, and just to be clear, i'm not like, claiming ownership of these guys or anything. I just thought it would be a fun exercise. Hope you like them!! I love your art and your characters.

horror being very specific with table manners and he berates people (dust and killer) for eating like fucking pigs

i think it'd be morbidly funny that because there was no food in horrortale but the cutlery and stuff was all there that maybe he would pretend to eat with no food on the plate. it was in a satirical way that he would joke maybe around horror paps or alone where he would pretend to eat and have really good table manners but then the satire joke became REAL and now horror is incredibly specific about how to eat food

you MUST hold the fork in the left and knife in right says horror. no killer you can't duel wield the fucking knives this is a table not a slaughterhouse. dust pick up your elbows off the table. actually how about you get your entire upper body off the table tf why are you SLEEPING ON THE FOOD??? killer's sitting fetal position in the chair because of course he wouldn't sit normally like the idiot he is. dust is forced to put his hood down and reveal his face no more mysterious shadow style because it puts horror at ease. they cannot have a single peaceful meal because once they get past the table manners phase it then becomes a completion to see who can eat the least (because they suck at everything including eating)

There are numerous characters in Good Omens, but I am particularly interested in these two.

fascinated to know at what point in sam's life he goes from happily subsisting off takeaway pizza (a la flagstaff) and cereal and mac n cheese with marshmellow fluff to exclusively eating Health Food which seems to just actually consist of salads. twelve year old sam likes peanut butter sandwiches enough that its what dean steals for him... i cant decide if thats more on the health food/disordered eating side or the kiddie random junk food crap side. i think possibly the latter but he retains attachment to peanut butter forever. some people would say the sudden food weirdness happens at stanford which, maybe? but thats boring to me its more interesting to think of it as happening at some point when sam's a teenager. pov you develop an eating disorder to #stick it to your dad.

What if Movie!Khaji Da is acting/was acting at least in the beginning of it?

Like, the Siri/Alexa/Cortana/thing. What if that’s fake, and the Scarab is acting to make them (mostly Jaime) less afraid of it. Either bc it’s aware of pop culture opinion around AI (and is downplaying itself so they’re not scared of it so much), or is still loyal to the Reach and wants Jaime to trust it bc it’s an infiltrator.

So skittish Khaji Da acting robotic and hiding its emotions until like the end of the movie, post the synchronization thing (bc it’s scared of their opinions).

Or Khaji Da working to gain Jaime’s trust and pretending to not understand human stuff (and playing into pop culture expectations of androids/ai/robots/etc) so that way he doesn’t question the whole “world killer” thing.

Either long-term manipulation with bad ending (reach takeover), or Khaj slowly comes to actually care for Jaime/his family (possibly bc the Reach do treat it like an Alexa [actually wait 3rd option, it acts like an Alexa for a while bc it was made to act like that (subservient, emotionless) for the Reach, and thinks they want it to act like that?], while the Reyes’ actually like. Address it. And care about each other. [and possibly Khaji Da itself] So it starts to feel guilty, decides “fuck the Reach” and comes clean to Jaime.

I really do enjoy khaji being more mechanical just because it's how they are. In my opinion it makes their development so impactful because it requires them to literally break their own coding. Go against the very fabric of your being, what you were MADE for, to try and be something more like yourself even though you don't know who that is yet.

Khaji only PRETENDING to be more robotic has some very very interesting potential though. Attempting to fit in a box your entire existence and then literally only being accepted once you step outside that box? Jeez, what a disorienting experience. My poor little murder bug :'(. They would probably end up needing a LOT of reassurance from Jaime. Just in subtle ways to make sure it's truly better that they behave as a person and not a tool. It would take soooo much time to build khajis self confidence and autonomy back up from that. Therapy. SOOOOO much therapy for the both of them on god.
