Thank you for coming over today. I wish I wasn't such a mess. I need to get stronger like you, Kasuga. Sometimes, you just have to admit when it's too much for you. I see. You're right. I think you're fine the way you are. No two women are the same.

Can you write how Akira, Eto, Amon, Nishiki and Kimi would feel jealous? It doesn't necessarily have to be those characters, you can add or make just the ones you want
Do you remember when you sent this ask one million years ago? Sorry it took so long, I hope it's worth the wait 🫣
TG Character's Being All Jealous And Stuff
Akira
Jealousy is a petty emotion, and as such is beneath Akira. Well, this is what she thought until she felt it
Akira is confident, self-assured, and too invested in achieving her own goals to pay much attention to what others' are doing. I think it would take her a while to even realise she's jealous. She won't recognise the feeling
She'll assume the other person has done something incompetent and that is why she's feeling off
And then it'll hit her
If she's feeling jealous in terms of a relationship, I can see her dealing with it head on. If she's already involved with the person, she'd probably be straight with them and say they're spending too much time around whoever, and she is unhappy about it. She cuts to the chase
If she ISN'T in a relationship, this will be her incentive that she needs to make a move now
In short: Akira doesn't feel jealous often, but when she does, she uses it to show her what she wants, and makes plans to get it.
Eto
If she was asked to describe her childhood in an emotion, Eto would choose "envy"
Envy of families, happy relationships, peace, having a home, money... Yeah, this is a feeling Eto is familiar with
Once she became a successful author, much of what she felt envious of disappeared to the background. But every once in a while, it will rear up again, especially if she's had a bad day. Or week. For example, if somebody talks about their good relationship with their parents, it hits home hard
Romantically, Eto isn't "the jealous type", however, if her partner were to spend lots of time with a friend, or at work, she *may* feel it then
It manifests more like fear that she'll be abandoned for someone else, rather than straight up jealousy
(but she'll totally drop by her partner's work/night out with friends on occasion. Y'know, by chance)
If she suspects a partner of deliberately trying to make her jealous, it will not go well at all. Eto doesn't mind the occasional game, providing everyone is playing by her rules.
Amon
Hmmm... This guy. I cannot imagine him being jealous. Amon is too righteous
Also has good self-esteem
But, if Amon's PARTNER was jealous???
!Plot Twist! Amon With A Partner Who Is Jealous
It would take him a while to notice because this man is dense
He would be thoroughly confused: "Why are they jealous? Have I done something to encourage this?"
I think he'd want it nipped in the bud early on. He hates friction in relationships, and just wants a peaceful life
Will have a big talk with his partner. Will reassure them there's nothing to be concerned about. He's so serious it's funny. His sombre approach to it all is reassurance enough
It'll be a few days later when Amon thinks about it and the whole thing will make him smile a little. It IS sort of flattering...
Kimi
If she's ever been jealous, it would've been during the early stages of a relationship, around the time her family died. She had a lot going on, her self-esteem was non-existent...
Like Eto, she'd probably be more afraid of abandonment rather than "competition"
Or would be on edge wondering when they were going to die too
Yeah. Kimi was reasonably a bit morbid back then
Once in an established relationship, I dont think she'd be prone to jealousy. Kimi has already been through the worst and survived: I don't think she'd allow jealousy to ruin the happiness she has.
Nishiki
Haha yeah he's the jealous one on this list
He just wants somebody to be "his". Not in a possessive way, more like he wants a relationship with someone without him having to watch over his shoulder for something bad coming along to fuck it up
I can't see him being the type to be thrilled about having a social butterfly as a partner - I think that would cause problems
He also wouldn't like it if his partner was working/studying/texting friends when they were together. He appreciates their attention when they're together, and gets irritated (jealous) if they're paying excessive attention elsewhere
He'll never admit that though.

revue starlight ask game!
2. what is your favorite quote from any part of revue starlight (anime, game, stageplays, movie, 4koma, credit card, etc.)?
What those Stage Girls said, those lines were all directed at me… The me who was slow at tag, had no friends, and couldn't speak well. You don't need to chase after the bright and dazzling sun with everyone else. It's fine to be drawn to the moonlight on the night of the stage. We are right here. So you should come here too. We're waiting. At the end of the moonlight—the secret paradise.

AA as a narrative of queerness.. etc. you can get so much out of it#but the crux is so simple: there will always be people 'like you' no matter what the world says#spitefully closing in on yourself as a rebellion against the world is not the answer#you deserve to be happy for what 'you' are. and that's what they're there for

2, 6, 14, 23, 29 and 31 for the ask game <3
Thanks for asking all these questions, Vilandel (or I guess Vila if that's okay)~!
Oh and thanks for waiting for the answers! I should've been able to get to them right away but IRL responsibilities got in the way.
..........
2) When is your birthday?
It's a day of a year that exists, even outside of leap years.
(Sorry for the weird non-answer. But I've avoided revealing my birthday online for a long time and I think I'm gonna stick to keeping that private.)
6) 5 Male celebrity crushes
Oh gosh. I can't really answer that either.
Not because I don't want to reveal celebrity crushes out of embarrassment. But rather because I just don't have celebrity crushes. Maybe growing up I crushed on celebrities but I don't remember who. And in the present, maybe I like a character's voice but I don't actively seek out media based on what VAs are behind the characters.
Genuinely, I can't answer. I'm boring, I know. But that's the truth.
14) What are your favorite apps besides tumblr?
Discord (for communicating with friends). Docs (for writing fics). and Shirabe Jisho (for looking up Japanese words).
23) What is your longest friendship?
18 years.
We met before either of us were in elementary school and even when she out of my immediate area, we still got to hang out thanks to annoying our parents into driving to each other's houses. And then she moved out of the country. We did our best to stay in touch. But as of now, the last time we spoke was in January of last year.
I still call her my friend and think fondly of her, but no contact for more than a year makes it... hard on my heart.
29) Favorite song lyrics right now?
Right now my favorite lyrics come from the song Precious Places, Precious Faces by Kaori Oda. It's the opening to Cafe Enchante (one of my darling otomes~!). And it's actually the song's chorus!
新しい一日のスタート この場所から始めようよ フロアの足音も華やいで 指を鳴らし合図したら みんなでLet's start! Peaceful days!
To roughly (very roughly) translate it, the lyrics mean
This is the start of a brand new day We'll start it from this place The sound of footsteps on the floor is cheerful too And when signaled with the snap of fingers Everyone, Let's start! Peaceful Days!
It's upbeat and optimistic, creating the feeling of a day that we can look forward to. The song overall might also be... inspiration... But I cannot elaborate now...
31) Describe yourself with 3 singers.
Maybe this is more describing my writings but I still feel like I could describe myself with Kenshi Yonezu, Kana Nishino, and GIRLFRIEND (all J-pop artists, oops).

Hiya there Acacia! Thank you for tagging me. Hope you don't mind me possibly just adding onto your post via reblog... 😅
So... Songs that I listen to...
Torisetsu (meaning "instruction manual") by Kana Nishino: This song is just too darn cute! Also, I've heard that it's a sort of parody response to the famous song Kanpaku Sengen by Masashi Sada (which itself was a song making fun of already outdated expectations of marriage and Sada even wrote a follow up song... I'm getting off topic...) Back to the song, Nishino's voice is gorgeous and the music is so... it makes you wanna skip and twirl around the room I feel.
Masquerade by ClariS: I was introduced to this song by the series Shadows House. I love the series. Kate and Emilico are my babies and I will fight literally everyone to protect them. Anyways! I love how it conveys the emotions of the character Maryrose and Barbara. Also... I might've ended up applying this song to an oc... So uh...
BEAUTIFUL by TREASURE: Black Clover's last ED song (for now 👀) is a wonderful number to help bring a close to Black Clover's first anime run. It's just a song that makes you feel at ease and that you are loved by someone (romantically or platonically I feel).
Kaibutsu no Uta (meaning "monster's song") by ReoNa: Now I only recently discovered the song but I can't get over this song. The singer calls themself a monster in the lyrics and a lot of the lyrics evoke negative feelings and the image of struggling. It's a songs that's beautiful in a kinda dark way.
When Love is True by Thomas Borchert: Guys guys! Don't worry, I listen to songs in English! SEE SEE?!/lh I've got to thank my wonderful friend @sailor-muno for introducing me to the musical for The Count of Monte Cristo and this song. This is a love song and pretty schmaltzy to boot. It's just filled with hope, confidence, and love. (Also a Morgsele song. I'M SORRY BUT IT'S TRUE!)
Tagging: @thoughtfullyrainynightmare @cringeyvanillamilk @marune2 @mikuyuuss and @simpingforthisonedeer
Aww thank you so much for the tag (and the positivity ✨), @virginian-wolfsnake! 🥰
🎶✨when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask/tag 5 of your favourite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) 🎶✨
I really feel that I think in music in a way, and I constantly have something playing the background so it's a bit difficult to narrow down to just 5 songs, but I'll try to pull from a couple of different playlists to narrow it down😅 The main link is to Spotify and the parenthetical link is to YouTube.
Lost in the Post (YouTube)-- The Wombats [One of my favorites from my ASOUE playlist for (somewhat obvious?) tongue-in-cheek reasons... Always, always makes me think of Lemony, Beatrice, and a certain 200-page letter😅]
Honor Among Thieves (YouTube) -- Julian Moon [I've been working on some original fiction and this is from that playlist. I love this song in general though]
Hold Me Tight Or Don't (YouTube)-- Fall Out Boy [I just listened to this song so I'm including it here. It's on a playlist I made for one of my favorite tiny side characters/"Little Trees" Solidad]
Eight (YouTube) -- Sleeping At Last [This one has a home on a couple different playlists, but most recently I've been listening to it on my Fairy Tail playlist and thinking of Erza Scarlet]
Born to Die (YouTube) -- Lana Del Rey [This might be one of favorite songs at the moment just in general, but it's also on my Danganronpa playlist]
Thank you so much again for the tag. I'm tagging @lyranova, @loosesodamarble, @library-child, @just-a-little-fan-1793 & @delirious-donna (no pressure though) and anyone else who would like to play! Cheers!!💕

A Gintama chapter a day keeps the ending away...Lesson 617
MY 12 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 617:
Kyuu-chan is just the coolest!
1) She really is so damn awesome!
2) Seriously, every time she appears and shows how much she loves Tae-chan, I immediately want them to end up together...and then I feel completely guilty for being unfaithful to KonTae.
3) This goofy, loveable old man.
4) It was so nice seeing the Yagyuu Four Devas again.
5) I think this was like the only shining moment they had in the entire war. Lol.
6) I wish we got to spend more time with the entire clan. I loved the Yagyuu arc.
7) She’s so cool and adorable (and kinda wonky) at the same time!
8) All that was missing was the Shinsengumi boys. I wish they were there to fight by the Yagyuu’s clan side. Would love to see that one day.
9) That was pretty brutal. One thing I appreciated about the war was the no holds bar moments like this when it came to the level of violence and gore.
10) I felt bad yet at the same time, I was kinda glad it wasn’t any of these other three Devas. Sorry to baldy.
11) Again, brutal.
12) Just..excited to see the the Yorozuya teaming up with the Yagyuu clan.
SHIPS TALLY:
Kyuubei x Otae: who wouldn’t love Kyuubei after such a heroic rescue? I don’t think Tae-chan has ever shown that soft expression to anyone else. As usual, I felt kinda bad for Kondou.
Gintoki x Kyuubei: I never really gave up on this straight ship for Gintoki; if he had to end up with one of the Ginta ladies, Kyuu-chan would still be at the top of my list. Don’t mean to straighten out Kyuu-chan cuz I know she’s technically Taesexual, but I had this whole saga planned out in my head how it would be a mutually beneficial arrangement for both of them. Don’t ask, it’s crazy.
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just so freaking amazing. It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s generosity that I can enjoy Gintama on yet another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.

Kaneki will be fine
Another one of these posts.
I’ve made a few posts about the Christian symbolism earlier today so I’m compiling them & adding a few things.
Kaneki was in Dragon for 72 hours (3 days). He spoke to Rize/was in purgatory for 3 chapters. He’s wrapped in a shroud when Urie’s carrying him. And Urie’s carrying him in a Pieta trope, which derives its name from Michelangelo’s Pieta statue of Mary holding a dead Christ.
Also tarot reasons. We’re entering Sun now, judging by the Dragon dissolving and Furuta finding Rize in the 19th ward (and likely approaching the end of his suicidal arc whether or not that means he dies). Next is Judgment, and here’s a description of what Judgment entails according to this site:
The Fool has been reborn. His false, ego-self has been shed, allowing his radiant, true self to manifest. He has discovered that joy, not fear, is at life's center.
The Fool feels absolved. He forgives himself and others, knowing that his real self is pure and good. He may regret past mistakes, but he knows they were due to his ignorance of his true nature. He feels cleansed and refreshed, ready to start anew.
It is time for the Fool to make a deeper Judgement (20) about his life. His own personal day of reckoning has arrived. Since he now sees himself truly, he can make the necessary decisions about the future. He can choose wisely which values to cherish, and which to discard.
The angel on Card 20 is the Fool's Higher Self calling him to rise up and fulfill his promise. He discovers his true vocation - his reason for entering this life. Doubts and hesitations vanish, and he is ready to follow his dream.
Note the concept of rebirth.
It’s also interesting to me and I’ve speculated for... awhile now that Judgment will have the revival of the dead considering the dead reviving on the tarot card.
We’ve gotten some hints of something going on with Dragon turning people into ghouls this chapter, we’ve gotten strong hints about Hairu coming back, Marude told them to bring Kaneki to the lab:
So if Kaneki is actually dead (which I’m ehhhh about) I think he’d be resurrected, but I don’t think he is actually dead, in which case his rebirth would be symbolic (the other revivals might be real though, cough Hairu cough)
Also Kimi needs to fix his aging and regeneration ASAP, not just for Ken but for Takizawa and Amon and Mutsuki and Hsiao and just. Everyone. Also Saiko since it looks like she might be a ghoul now too thanks to Dragon.

Apparently my 48/46G Active Members Senbatsu 💕(Excluding Mayu, who owns the 2nd spot 😢)
made by using http://akbsort.tumblr.com
Actually this list quite surprised me, I never thought Ikoma would make it into senbatsu (winning against Jurina), Mizuki and Manami would rank so high, or Ikuchan win against Annin-Mako-Komi 😮 (btw 22 is Yukirin, with 23 Hiwatan and 24 Jurina)
Please take a look at dear Hinachan too! (my next kamioshi probably 😊)

Daiya no Ace: The Dramas. Special Drama 3: “Onward, to Jingu!”
So I know I haven’t finished part 3 of the service station one yet - but I will - and this one inspired me more this evening.
Featuring Eijun, Furuya, Haruichi, Miyuki
Summary: The team are heading to Jingu for a practice game. Theoretically. What’s actually happened is that Miyuki, along with the usual three first year suspects, have a bit of a travel problem, thanks entirely to Eijun…
Miyuki: Furuya, are you here? Furuya: Yes. Miyuki: Kominato? Haruichi: Yes, I’m done.
Miyuki: Sawamura? (Before he can quite finish speaking, Eijun replies with…) Eijun: SAWAMURA EIJUN PRESENT AND CORRECT!
Miyuki: Annoying… Eijun: I, Sawamura, am always ready to do my part in a game! Miyuki: (Clearly weary): And why is it that, if you have that level of conviction, do you suddenly decide right before getting on the train that you have to go to the restroom?
*Eijun: One’s hands and ones stomach aren’t bound by the whims of time, you know! And it wasn’t just me. Furuya and Harucchi also came with me! (*Note: I am unsure about the first part of this line because he gets incoherent when he’s excited. But it conveys the sense anyway)
Miyuki: Yes, but you were the one who got lost finding the restroom, weren’t you? Eijun: Ack..
Miyuki: (Sighs): On a day when we have a game at Jingu, and this is what happens. Are you all right?
Haruichi: But it’s unusual that we weren’t able to hire our usual bus this time. Miyuki: Well, we can get there easily by train. It’s a good thing that it’s not a major problem. But I never thought that we’d get separated from the others because of a toilet crisis! Furuya: (just catching up with the conversation) It’s not my fault, you know. Eijun: (Angry): You went to the restroom too, didn’t you?! Haruichi: Eijun-kun. Don’t yell on the train.
Eijun: Ah, good point. Furuya: But it’s a while since I’ve been on a train. Eijun: Is it? Haruichi: Now I think about it, the last time was when we went to the Tokyo Dome to see Glay, live. (Translator’s Note; !?!!?!! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN So many questions…) Eijun: Ah! Kanemaru and Toujou were with us too, weren’t they? Miyuki: You guys almost got swept away by the wave of people at Shinjuku, though. (Translator’s note: It is LIKE THAT at Shinjuku station. >< OMG the memories!)
Eijun: (Gasping): How did you know that?! FURUYA! You blabbed, didn’t you?! Furuya: I didn’t say anything. Eijun: Then, Harucchi!
Haruichi: It wasn’t me (he sounds hurt). Eijun: Then who leaked? Was it Kanemaru? Toujou? No, Toujou’s a good guy. So it was Kanemaru? It must have been Kanemaru! That wretch, Kanemaru! Haruichi: And he’s convinced himself.
Miyuki: Sawamura. I heard it from you. Eijun: Me?! (He sounds genuinely shocked). Miyuki: The night you went to the Tokyo Dome, you came to my room to tell me about it, remember? And then there was Chris-senpai. You went specifically to his classroom to report to him about it, too. Apparently you were being a nuisance.
Eijun: Gnngh…Ah…now you mention it, I did… Miyuki: (Amused): Don’t get swept away this time, huh? Eijun: I, Sawamura Eijun, am a man who learns from experience! I won’t make the same mistake again! (The train announcer announces the next stop is Shinjuku). Miyuki: There. We’re at Shinjuku. Eijun: I got it already!
(There is the sound of a lot of people).
Eijun: Ah, here it comes! As if I’m going to be defeated! Haruichi: Hey, Eijun-kun! Eijun: Harucchi! Don’t get swept away! If you get swept away it’s the end of everything! Haruichi: That’s not what I meant… (There is the sound of train doors closing. Eijun sighs in relief).
Eijun: Ah, that was dangerous.
Miyuki: It wasn’t a bit dangerous. Eijun: Huh? Furuya: Hey, there’s Maezono-senpai. Eijun: Huh? Outside the window of the train are the many faces of the Seidou Baseball Club members…Kuramochi-senpai, Kanemaru, Toujou…Shirasu-senpai and Nori-senpai. Even the boss. Are they looking this way?! Furuya: Even though we were meant to change trains at Shinjuku… Eijun: What?!
Miyuki: You were making such a fuss we didn’t manage to get off the train in time. Eijun: Wait, Shinjuku wasn’t a station to avoid getting off at, then?
Haruichi: Today’s game is at Jingu Stadium, so we needed to change at Shinjuku… Eijun: What?! Furuya, did you know that? Furuya: I knew. Eijun: What is this madnesss!!!!!!
Miyuki: (Entirely calm, probably because he’s now got such an Eijun-madness-tolerance level this doesn’t even register): What’s done is done. Never mind. If we change at Yotsuya, we can get a train back quite easily. Eijun: Geeeuuhhh! Miyuki: And after, you’ll have to apologise to the coach. Eijun: Why just me?! You were the one who told the coach it’d all be fine, you’re just as guilty, aren’t you?
Miyuki: Huh? Why me too? Although I suppose if I hadn’t agreed to come with you, you wouldn’t have had permission [I assume to go to the restroom].
Eijun: (Crushed): I’m sorry. Miyuki: Hey, now. We’re gonna change at the next stop, Yotsuya, so be prepared, okay? This time there won’t be many people, so there’s no risk of being swept along by the crowd. Eijun: Yes! I, Sawamura Eijun, will not make the same mistake twice! Haruichi: He probably will though. Furuya: Mm. (The scene changes. They have arrived, finally, at the station for the stadium).
Eijun: Ah, for a while there I didn’t know what was going to happen. Miyuki: Don’t be so complacent! (Translator’s Note, Miyuki actually says ‘aah ja nee yo, which literally means it’s not “ah!” but that didn’t really mean much in English, so I used the intent rather than the actual words here). The train we had to change onto was late, and that was definitely a problem. Look! At this rate we’re only just going to make it to the start of the game preparations!
Eijun: That just means that the Captain’s leadership skills weren’t very good. Miyuki: (Annoyed now): And after we got off the train, you kept stopping to look at this and that on the way through. Are all the food stalls really that interesting? (Note: He is more specific, but food words are my nemesis and I can’t make it out).
Eijun: Ah, well, (he laughs), I wanted to buy some delicious noodles. Miyuki: Don’t eat right before a game! Haruichi: Honestly. Maybe Eijun really needs a collar and lead. Eijun: Am I a dog? Do you think I’m a puppy? Furuya: I’m already pretty tired out… Miyuki: Hey, the game is after this, you know! Eijun: Look! That’s…! Miyuki: Now what? Eijun: They’ve got a batting centre here! Look! There! It says you can hit pro level fast-balls! Furuya: (Suddenly energised) Professional fast-balls… Miyuki: Hey, hey, now what are you doing getting all fired up before the main event? The thing you guys should be getting excited about isn’t the batting centre, it’s that over there, isn’t it? (Presumably he means the stadium). Haruichi: That’s right. When we’ve got this game at Jingu Stadium waiting. Eijun: Ah! So we do! Furuya: Oh. Haruichi: What’s up, Furuya-kun? Furuya: The Jingu Stadium is over there, right? Haruichi: Mm, it is. Why? Furuya: For some reason it seems to be surrounded by people. Haruichi: You’re right. I wonder what’s going on. It can’t be the crowd for the game, surely? It wouldn’t be like that just for a practice game? Eijun: (Starts laughing slightly maniacally). Haruichi: What? Why are you suddenly laughing like that? It’s creepy. Eijun: It’s surely the female fans of I, Sawamura Eijun, and the passionate fans of High School baseball! There’s no mistaking it! (?!!!?! Translator’s Note: This is the guy who can’t even notice that Wakana and Nishino, and probably Haruno are all interested. Facepalm groan). Furuya: It’s probably for me. Eijun: What did you just say? Furuya: I won’t give up the mound. Miyuki: You guys! I already told you not to get all hyped up! Although it is strange. When you think of who comes to the games, these people don’t look like they’re associated with school baseball… Haruichi: I’ll go ask. (He leaves) Eijun: That’s Haruichi for you. Always perceptive! (Soon Haruichi returns). Haruichi: I asked someone. At the Jingu stadium, today, they’re apparently holding an all star game for some anime called Daiya no Ace. (Translator’s Note: LOL, fourth wall collided with at speed). Eijun: Daiya no Ace? All star? Does that mean that I’m also now an all-star? Miyuki: Obviously not! Then, in that case, we’re not playing at Jingu? Surely…the game isn’t at the Second Jingu stadium instead? Haruichi: In that case, the entrance is on the other side, isn’t it? Furuya: Ah… Miyuki: What’s up, Furuya? Furuya: That guy over there is the coach, isn’t it? Eijun: Ah! The Boss is looking over this way! (He starts yelling), BOSS! I, Sawamura Eijun have arrived at Jingu Stadium! Haruichi: The coach…looks like he’s saying something. Hang on…”You lot, what are you doing! If you’re even a minute late I won’t put you on the field!”…he’s angry… Miyuki: Huh…Ah, shit! There’s only a minute before the pre-game gathering. RUN! (and he takes off). Haruichi: Wait, Miyuki-senpai! Furuya: Ah, no fair!
(they both set off running after Miyuki)
Eijun: Are you guys going to just leave me behind?! Ah! Dammit! (he starts running) Why me?!
Miyuki: If you come to that, it’s all because you had to go to the restroom!
Furuya: And wouldn’t get off the train.
Haruichi: And kept taking diversions.
Eijun: Dammit! Next time I will definitely get on the train properly! Although, one day I am definitely going to play in a stand-out all star game!
Furuya: Me too.
Haruichi: In that case, me also.
Miyuki: You lot! Hurry!
(The first years): Yes sir!

Untitled Gang AU
This is just my need to write an AKB Gang AU combined with shameless Yuunaa. It’s written in mostly stream of consciousness writing, so the topic jumps to whatever connection my brain jumps to, it can get a little disorientating at times. It’s also kind of unfinished, but I didn’t want it sitting in a file collecting dust, so here it is.
Warnings: this piece includes: mentions of violence, though nothing too graphic; traumatic flashbacks; mildly sexually charged scenes, though nothing truly nsfw.
_____________________________________________________________
The town of Akihabara is a place of conflict and contradictions.
Located in the central ward of Tokyo, it has the highest rate of organised crime activity in all of Japan. The police will claim that there are no gangs in Akihabara – after all, the businesses are flourishing and the tourists come in droves, there is no safer place. Yet, every denizen knows that the infamous 48 Gangs originated in there, and it’s even a point of pride for a few.
If the press interviews a resident, they’ll swear up and down that they’ve never felt safer anywhere else. But more than once has a tourist revealed that they’ve been told by locals scuttling about to either stay on the nearby streets north and west of Akihabara train station after dark, or else not go wandering about at all.
The Akihabara sect of the 48 Gangs themselves are full of conflicting information too.
Sometimes, when the residents manage to acknowledge that they exist, one may hear them whisper in hushed tones about how they’re vigilantes, heroes who do the right thing when the police can’t or won’t. But in the same breath they’d tell you to stay away from one particular café in the Hanaokacho district, and the theatre near Taito station. The members of the AKB sect themselves would laugh themselves sick at the term, all the while shooting a defenceless man in the head without batting an eye, because they’re not heroes. They have their own goals, their own plans, most of which revolve around protecting their own, their members, their family, and if some things extend towards heroism, than that’s just a coincidence, and if some things stretch closer to the other side, well, that’s fine too.
Word on the street says it starts during the days when multiple factions ran rampant all over Tokyo. When kids were recruited right out of high school (and some still in it) into the Project gangs and prostitution rings. Some say a man rose up to create a force that could clean up the streets and keep the gang violence where it belongs – between gangs and not involving civilians.
Aki-P they called him, the man who swept up the capitol’s underbelly.
People say also he’s the same man who created the Sakamichi Syndicate and started the bloodiest turf war Tokyo has ever seen. Some say he did it because he gave up on the AKB sect, when they started losing their way and becoming more dangerous than the gangs they rose up against. Others say he did it after losing control of the 48 Gangs, that he was ousted from the inner circle and so created a rival faction as vengeance.
No matter how different the stories get, they all have one similarity. The 48 Gangs are dangerous, the sect in Akihabara doubly so, and anyone who gets in their way, or harms anyone in their sphere, or dares to challenge their grip over Tokyo, take heed and be on the lookout.
They’ll come for you.
__________________________________________________________)
Okada Nana is fifteen when she boards a train from Kanagawa to Tokyo and doesn’t look back.
Kojima Mako and Nishino Miki are similar ages, and in similar situations when they run into each other, having decided to pickpocket the same mark, and the three of them decide to run together. The streets are a little less intimidating with two sets of eyes to watch your back, and two bodies to keep you warm at night.
Mako’s the devious one, with her heart-melting gummy smiles and disarming laugh, she’s able to charm any passer-by and con them out of their hard earned money.
“Sorry sir, I’ve lost my parents, can I please borrow three hundred yen for the train fare?”
It works more often than not, there’s never a shortage of businessmen willing to play hero and help out a stranded school girl. And if she steals the rest of their wallet when they’re not looking, well they usually don’t notice until it’s too late.
Miki is bolder. She takes items right off of shelves when she walks by, and isn’t afraid to go after other street kids who wander into the space they’ve claimed as their own.
Sometimes she’s a little too bold, “Let’s get lunch from there.”
And that’s where Nana comes in. She’s the cautious one, the voice of reason, the brains behind the operations as small and simple as it is.
“We can’t go in there,” Nana hisses, grabbing the other two by the backs of their collars before they do something stupid.
“Why not? The foods cheaper in there than anywhere else in the city,” Miki points out, not unreasonably.
But Nana is adamant, “Yeah for good reason. That café belongs to AKB.”
The innocuous street side café about a minute’s walk from Akihabara station is something of a local legend in the area. Anyone above thirty avoids it like the plague because of the rumours of it being owned by the 48 Gangs, or perhaps it simply just serves the members of AKB. The little number 48 carved into the brickwork above the café doors is a symbol of that.
However, it is popular amongst the youth of the city for that very reason. With many hanging out there to bask in the rebellious feeling of danger, or on adventurous dares from friends. Whispers fly about AKB recruiting from the youth who flock there. A few yankees even claim to be initiates recruited from there. They’re all bald faced liars. No prospective recruit would be stupid enough to loiter in a known gang-owned establishment.
A few have, however, been known to have been recruited around the station. Our little trio of street rats like to linger around the area, pickpocketing the stupid school kids, the otakus heading to the Gundam café across the street, and the rich folk visiting the golf club on the other side of the block.
They do that for months before they’re approached by a member of AKB.
Okada Nana is sixteen when Minegishi Minami approaches her and her friends with an offer they can’t refuse.
Her first job is with Mako and two other recruits. They’re tasked with the simple job of delivering a package and Nana has to wonder what’s so important that there needs to be four of them for this. Or maybe it’s not so important, considering there are four barely trained, fresh faced initiates on the job.
They scuttle about the train line, Mako skipping along merrily, Hikari following behind quietly, with Nana and Ayana bickering the whole way. They deliver the package without any issues worth mentioning to one Itano Tomomi at an upscale bar in the heart of the city. It turns out to be cold hard cash, and Nana goes white at the thought of possibly losing that much money. Or rather, what the gang would do to them if they lost that much money.
The next few jobs follow in a similar manner. Nana gets to know the names and quirks of her fellow runners. Innocent, seemingly useless things like:
Iwatate Saho is stronger than she looks.
“Oh god he’s unconscious…are you planning on joining Team K?”
“No, too dangerous. I’m thinking Team B. You know, manning the cafes and the casinos and stuff.”
Mogi Shinobu doesn’t do so well under pressure.
“What the-!? Mogi-san why didn’t you just shoot him?”
“I panicked!”
“I can’t believe you want to join Team A, you’ll die in a week.”
Murayama Yuiri is stupidly pretty.
“Yuiri-chan…We’re half an hour in the wrong direction. You had the map upside down.”
“Sorry! I’m sorry, usually Naa-chan corrects me when I do this, I mean, I’m not blaming Naa-chan! It’s just she…Naa-chan what are you looking at?”
“Err nothing. Nothing, I got distracted.”
Takashima Yurina has somewhat of a crush on her.
“Naa-chan I bought drinks.”
“Where’s one for the rest of us?”
Uchiyama Natsuki knows a ridiculous amount about the law.
“Article 13: every individual has the liberty of protecting his or her own personal information from being disclosed to a third party or made public without good reason.”
“Somehow I doubt beating him up would fly as ‘taking the liberty to protect our property.”
Apparently they do a somewhat of a good job, because Nana finds herself selected as part of a joint project between all the 48 Gangs. She, Mako and Miki are the representatives of the Akihabara sect and Nana wonders how the hell the upper echelons decided on that.
“So, what are your specialties?” somehow it falls to Nana to lead this ragtag group.
The Namba sect representative Shibuya Nagisa is actually the oldest (by a few months) but she’s no more experienced than they are – Nana finds out later, the reason why all of the sects sent their freshest recruits. It’s all internal politics, and a mission too important to turn down, but not important enough to ensure successful. In short, they’re expendable and they weren’t even expected to make it home.
The job is in Tokyo, so Nana takes the reigns by default.
She finds that leadership suits her.
It feels like a natural extension of what she was already doing when they were just three idiots on the street, planning operations meticulously so that they come back in one piece, and utilising the skills of her teammates in the most efficient way possible. There are three more idiots to account for now, but she is familiarised with them soon enough.
Nagisa is the strongest in hand-to-hand combat amongst the seven of them, Sakae’s Ryoha the most accurate shot, Hakata’s Meru joins Miki in being the loud charismatic distraction, while Mako and Hakata’s Mio are swift and sneaky with their hands. It’s the perfect team for covert operations. Which makes sense, considering they’re being sent south of the Kanda river, into Sakamichi territory to gather intel on the new gang that’s popped up by the Roppongi hills.
It seems like a simple mission.
Get in, look around for suspicious activity, get out. There isn’t supposed to be confrontation or combat involved.
But no plan survives contact with the enemy, and no one cares about supposed to be’s when there are guns pointed at their heads.
When she’s desperately wrestling with a knife that wants nothing more than to dig into her flesh, when she’s slammed against the wall, breath knocked out of her, when a pair of hands wrap around her throat and squeeze, and her lungs scream as her legs thrash uselessly underneath, her vision blurs, and the terrifying realisation that she won’t actually get out of this situation alive sets in – oh god is that Miki screaming she hears in the background? – the air is rushing out her lungs and –
“Naa-chan. Naa-chan! Snap out of it, you’re not there anymore.”
Nana eyes fly open, as she dashes up, heart still thudding in her chest. She has to make sure everyone’s okay, what happened to Miki, and oh god Mio was stabbed, and where the hell is Mako, and they lost contact with Ryoha half an hour in, and Nagisa is unconscious, and no matter how deep a breath she takes, it doesn’t seem to be enough. Her chest burns, she can’t breathe and – a hand lands on her shoulder, the accompanying scent of hinoki pine only just barely manages to stamp down the instinct to lash out.
Yuiri’s concerned face drags her back to reality, “It’s okay. You’re home. You’re not there, you’re safe now,” to the little hole in the wall apartment she has (firmly on the AKB side of the Kanda river), to the bed she’s sharing with the pretty distraction on her team. Though, perhaps that would be unkind to say, even if she refuses to think of what they’re doing as anything more than just stress relief, blowing off steam.
Belatedly Nana realises that she has a death grip on Yuiri’s upper arm, she loosens her grip but doesn’t let go, “S-sorry,” her hands are shaking, she’s trembling and she can’t get it to stop, and Yuiri’s murmuring nonsense things in her ear.
“Why are you sorry? I’m sorry, I’m such an idiot,” Yuiri apologises with a grimace. They’ve established early on that Nana does not like hands anywhere near her neck, that one horrendous mission spoiled that forever, but sometimes Yuiri forgets, and the resulting post-traumatic flashbacks are the most mood-killing thing possible in the bedroom, or sometimes out of it too.
The first time it happens is in a street by the AKB theatre of all places. It’s after a job with just the two of them, when they’re both high on adrenaline, breaths heavy, eyes glazed, still in the heat of violence, fresh from a near-death scuffle. Nana’s not sure who jumps whom first, but suddenly they’re in each other’s space, hands tangled in hair, and tongue against teeth. Yuiri tastes like citrus that night, some kind of lemon mixed, and the deeper she kisses her the more she can taste the metallic tang of blood and the salt of sweat mixed in.
Nana closes her eyes tightly, a low, throaty moan of approval rumbles deep in her throat as her back hits the wall with a light thud, the moan turning markedly louder as the elder girl’s fingers slip inside the waistband of her shorts and shoves them down over her hips. Strong, forceful fingers dig into her and pull her in even tighter as her mouth is once again claimed in a desperate, hungry kiss.
“Yuu-chan,” she moans, gasping at the feel of the other girl’s tongue against her throat.
“Yes?” Yuiri’s lips curls into a smile against Nana’s, she groans low and deep as Yuiri’s hips grinds into her own.
“Don’t stop.”
It’s easier with Yuiri, they understand each other in ways her other teammates simply don’t. Maybe it’s because the most of the others are like what Nana was at first, just street kids and lowly thieves dragged in way over their heads. When Nana and Mako come back from that FUBAR recon mission with their hands soaked in blood, the others look at them different. With wariness in their eyes, with guarded stances, with hints of fear in their faces.
Mako’s stupid grin thaws their hesitance soon enough. But Nana has never been that kind of charismatic. Not in the way that makes other at ease. She’s always been harder, more serious, and that only makes her look much more intimidating now.
“You’re still here?” Nana raises an eyebrow when she realises that Yuiri is still lingering about. These days, most of her team disappear faster than a blink of an eye the moment the job is done, not wanting to be around for longer than necessary.
But Yuiri only looks at Nana like she’s the one being unreasonable, “Don’t we usually go for kakigori after a job?”
“You want to have desserts with me? What, not afraid I’ll snap and kill you?” Nana asks, sadly only half sarcastically, because with the way the rest of the team treat her, it seems that’s exactly what they’re thinking.
The other girl snorts and actually has the audacity to chuckle, “You’re going to have do a lot more than be traumatised to scare me. I’m sure I’ve killed more people than you.”
Yuiri wasn’t some street kid when she got recruited. She was born into this world, her family neck-deep in the underbelly of Japan, and she’s no stranger to violence. There’s only one other like that on their team, Nana would’ve overlooked Mion entirely if Yuiri hadn’t pointed her out.
“You can always tell when someone’s killed before,” Yuiri says, “It’s in the eyes.”
The months blur into years, and before Nana knows it most of her team have the same eyes, the ones who are still alive anyway. The ones who are left split off into the different teams of AKB eventually. Mako, Ayana, Mogi and Komiharu are sent to Team K, with their dangerous combat orientated jobs and Nana just hopes they keep coming home. Saho and Saki are off in the relatively safer B, the front jobs, manning the café and the casinos and the above-board stations. Yukari and Mion end up in A, and Nana hopes beyond hope that they don’t lose themselves in there.
Nana and Yuri themselves never leave 4. They’re the ones chosen to train up the newbies, and she has no idea who thought that is a good idea. She never actually does anything too important in the gang – up until the moment she accidentally founds an entirely new sect.
She’d been in Fukuoka visiting Mio and Meru, and it’s in Hiroshima, on her way back to Tokyo that Nana manages to get herself recognised and chased. She hated cults with a passion. Why did they have a problem with her anyway? It’s not like the 48 Gangs had territory claimed in Hiroshima –
Ow.
She falls off the fence the she’s attempting to climb over and lands on her back with a dull thud. The grass is soft at least. She spends a few moments just staring up at the night sky, it’s actually quite breathtaking when you’re far away enough from the city lights to appr—
“Are you okay?”
Oh, there’s a kid in pink and purple. A teenager really. Nana can’t tell ages anymore.
“…m’fine. Sorry didn’t mean to land in your backyard,” she says. An apartment complex’s backyard anyway, she realises when she sits up. It’s a rundown building that’s clearly not in official use. It appears there are kids squatting in it.
It’s difficult to tell in the dark, but when Nana squints she can make out maybe two more teens peeking out from behind a window.
“Wanna come inside?” the girl asks, and Nana really really shouldn’t.
A gunshot sounds in the air though, and Nana quickly scrambles to follow the kid inside. Being noble is all well and good, but it definitely doesn’t beat being alive.
When Nana awakens the next morning, she hears furious whisperings back and forth between the teens – and there’s clearly more of them this morning than there was last night.
“—it’s dangerous, she’s clearly a member of the 48 Gangs! You saw that tattoo!” an unknown voice hisses, and Nana wonders when and how they saw the little 48 tattoo on the back of her neck. That’s not usually visible and she’s usually a light enough sleeper to wake up if they touch her.
“Yeah, that means she can help us!” that’s Chiho, one of the girls she remembers half-heartedly greeting the night before. The one with the bruises on her face.
“We can’t trust a gang member!”
“So what else are we going to do? They took Yumirin, we’ll never get her back ourselves!”
Nana’s always had a soft spot for stupid kids. It’s probably why they never took her off Team 4, and how she finds herself hopping all over the setouchi region, rescuing girls from a fox worshipping cult.
Girls who somehow end up forming the Setouchi sect of the 48 Gangs – Sashihara-san comes down from Fukuoka to make it official and everything.
Mogi never lets her forget it.
“Hey Naa-chan, remember the time you went to visit Mio and Meru and ended up playing prince charming and rescuing ten damsels in distress?”
