Sorren had not quite been himself since he lost his job. He had lost his focus, was less interested in cooking, and wasn’t even as passionate in his interactions with Lauren.

Lauren noticed this change in her partner. She wanted to make him happier, and considered that perhaps he needed something to look forward to. Something to plan for. Something that they had both wanted for a long time.

“Sorren, I think it’s time for us to start planning our wedding. We haven’t talked about it lately, but we love each other and I think it would be great to plan together, especially now that you have more free time.”

“What?” Sorren had so many thoughts on his mind that wedding plans were the last thing on it.

“It’ll give us something happy to focus on.”

“Lauren, I don’t want us to get married out of pity. I don’t want it to be a project to distract me. No. I can’t do that.”

“But...but I hoped...” Lauren was worried that she would burst into tears.

“Lauren. I love you. I want to be with you. But I can’t agree to marry you to distract me from how useless I am now that I am unemployed. That’s not what I want for us.” Sorren tried to explain, and Lauren tried to understand, but she was very sad and upset.

“I understand. Please excuse me.”

Lauren spent the rest of the afternoon talking to the apple tree outside. Talking to plants helped calm her mind and her spirit. She had never thought that Sorren would say no to marrying her, but he had a point, her timing was off and her reasoning hadn’t made it about them. Still, it hurt a lot.

With Lauren and Sorren happily engaged, a more positive atmosphere returned to the household, even though the question of money did come up from time to time.

“These are definitely the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever eaten,” Mars announced. He was on his third sandwich.

“They are good,” Apollo agreed.

“Unfortunately, my father can’t work in a restaurant anymore. He signed a non-compete close with his old boss, and the jerk who fired him would definitely sue if he tried to work again.” Castor couldn’t imagine his father being happy doing anything besides cooking.

“Hmmmm,” Mars thought, “I have an idea.”

“Mr. Terrano, Apollo and I have an idea. We still have some money from the reconciliation funds and we want to invest in an Alien business run by you.”

“A business? I don’t know anything about running a business.” Sorren was confused.

“It would be a take out joint. Not a restaurant. Just a place you can come and get pre-prepared meals for your family. Take Off Foods,” Mars explained.

“Take Off Foods? I like it. That’s an excellent idea, boys. And I would be sure to pay back your investment plus share the profits.” Sorren meant it. He would never have thought of such a thing; he wasn’t used to the idea that an Alien could own a business. Now, he had a place to start again.

“That jerk won’t be able to come after him; it definitely won’t be a restaurant.” Mars could already see the money pouring in. How many people wanted the practicality of having a pre-made meal, but something tastier and healthier than pizza.

“Thank you both! This is going to be awesome.” Castor was glad he had such good friends.

“Just don’t forget to let us invest in your robotics business. We know that’s going to be a success too,” Apollo reminded him.

“Lauren, I have wonderful news!” Sorren announced as he jumped into her arms. “We are going to have a summer wedding and the food will come from Nickelton’s latest Alien-run business, Take Off Foods. Not a restaurant, just a place you can get pre-prepared meals created by yours truly!”

“That’s wonderful news!” Lauren and Sorren were very happy.

Huntsville Revived #376

After Sorren rejected Lauren’s proposal of marriage, Lauren spent a lot of time outside talking to their tree. It helped raise Sorren out of a funk, and he realized he hadn’t been himself lately.

“How’s the apple tree doing?” Sorren asked.

“It’s thriving,” Lauren told him.

“And what about you?”

“I’ve been better,” she admitted.

“Lauren. I love you. I love you more than anything or anyone in this world,” Sorren said, taking her in his arms and kissing her.

“I’m an idiot, Lauren,” he said, getting down on one knee, “You asked me to get married and I...like I said, I’m an idiot.”

“We already share our life. This is our life. We were separated once, not by our own choice, and I hated every moment of it. I never want to be separated again,” Sorren continued.

“Will you do me the honour of being my wife?”

“Are you sure,” Lauren asked, “I don’t want to force you into anything.

“Of course I’m sure.”

“The answer is yes!”

Huntsville Revived #373

With Castor getting into private school and Lauren feeling more comfortable with her life choices (she didn’t need to get a job if she didn’t want one), the family was feeling very happy.

That is until Sorren got a phone call. The owner of the restaurant he worked at had sold the business. The new proprietor wanted Sorren to change the menu, and insisted that he come go experience a restaurant in Ashford City with a similar feel to the one the restaurant would change to.

“This place doesn’t seem so bad,” Lauren said, “It’s nice and open. I like all the plants.”

“Yes. I’m not sure if this means extensive restoration to the building, but I do like the atmosphere here.”

While the place was beautiful and relaxing, the meal was not.

“This pasta tastes terrible,” Sorren whispered to Lauren, “And, did you notice, no grilled cheese on the menu!?”

“Well, they want to change the menu a bit, but surely they bought your restaurant because of the success it has found with you as head chef.” Lauren tried to be reassuring, but she didn’t like anything she tasted either, including the water.

Sorren tried to work with the new owner, but it was immediately apparent that he didn’t like grilled cheese at all. And Sorren suspected he didn’t like Aliens either. Unfortunately, it wasn’t something he could prove or do anything about, so he ended up without a job.

Huntsville Revived #372

The moment Castor heard that Aliens were now permitted to go to private schools, he wanted to be admitted.

Sorren would deny nothing to his son, and so the Headmaster of Ashford Academy was invited to dinner to see if Castor would be an appropriate student.

“So, tell me about the family situation here?” The Headmaster noted, as one place at the table had not been served.

“My partner, Lauren, is out with friends this evening. She is like a mother to Castor,” Sorren explained.

The Headmaster nodded. He understood that Alien households, like all households, could be varied, and was glad this one fit the nuclear family description, minus the dog. He wanted to admit some Aliens, to prove his institute kept up with the times, but he didn’t want any drama.

After dinner, Sorren and Castor showed him around the house. 

“This is Castor’s bedroom. Here is the station on which he works on developing robotics. He’s very interested in AI.” Sorren was very proud of his son, and glad when the Headmaster seemed very impressed.

“You’re working on AI?” He asked Castor.

“Yes, Sir. I’m very close to a breakthrough, I think.”

That news sealed the deal and the Headmaster immediately promised Castor he could start attending the following Monday!

Castor was thrilled, but excused himself as he did have some homework he needed to complete for his current teachers if he was to transfer. That impressed the Headmaster even more.

“I’ll see the Headmaster out,” Sorren told him as Castor set to work at his desk.

Once Castor had finished the project he was working on, Sorren was only too pleased to give his son a big hug and to tell him again and again just how proud he was of his boy.

Spring - Days 4-7 - Household 8: Sorren Terrano & Lauren Chang; Castor Terrano

While the Aliens who have recently arrived from Desert Valley are surprised by how peaceful life is for Aliens in Huntsville, Sorren, Lauren and Castor have not forgotten what things were like until only recently.

Sorren and Lauren are fairly hard to separate. Their passion for each other is only occasionally interrupted by the other love of Sorren’s life, grilled cheese sandwiches.

Contrary to other’s opinions, they do often get a room when they want to be intimate. They just don’t mind PDAs or letting others see just how much they are into each other.

Castor has not fully taken their example. While Alien-Human relationships are now being generally accepted, he still worries for Marsha. He’s been picked on enough himself by Anti-Alien types, and he doesn’t want her to be harassed by them for loving him.

Early in the Spring, Lauren decided to see what getting a job would be like. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out at all. Within a few hours, the lack of sun in the office made her light headed. She ended up being fired, unable to do the job.

“You alright?” Sorren asked her. She was in a bit of a funk, disappointed in herself.

“I just...I wanted to make some money to contribute.” Lauren was dejected.

“What are you talking about? You contribute.” Sorren hugged his love, “You don’t have to go work in an office. There are other jobs, if you are interested. And if not, your paintings do contribute some, and your garden keeps us well fed.”

Sorren was right. Lauren knew that her garden did keep the fridge stocked, which was quite a contribution. But she wondered how he would feel if it weren’t for his financial comfort, as the head chef of a successful restaurant.

Still, gardening and painting brought Lauren so much joy, and the desire to get a job did not reoccur.

While getting to know the new Aliens was a big priority, Skye wasn’t going to let those who had lived her for so long feel neglected. She threw a small gathering.

“Hello Lysander, I thought I would check in with you. What are your thoughts on inviting Peter? [...] So you think I should invite him and not Aphrodite? [...] Well, I’ll let her know, since she’s got plans anyway. Thanks.” Peter’s romancing of the two sisters continued to be the biggest source of drama for the community.

Aaricia and Lysander, the newly weds, were pretty much still on their honeymoon. And Sorren and Lauren couldn’t keep their hands off each other for 5 minutes. Skye wondered when her brother would get around to proposing.

“Sometimes I think we need to respond as we would to a fire alarm, and dump a bucket of water on both their heads,” Europa joked.

“On Aaricia and Lysander, or on Sorren and Lauren?” Charlotte wondered.

“Athena would have been over the moon to be able to vote.” Belinda had been in as much shock as the rest of the Alien community when that had happened.

“It will keep Mayor Hogan in power. There are enough of us resident here to counter the dwindling population of Anti-Alien jerks,” Lauren pointed out. She was pleased, but would not ignore the reasoning behind the choice was as much about what was right as what was politically expedient.

“It opens to doors for us to be able to run. Can you imagine, an Alien mayor?” Sorren asked.

“Maybe one day,” Lauren replied wistfully.

“I’m so glad you dropped by, Belinda. Are you sure you don’t want to stay?”

“No. It’s still harder than I can manage for long. Surrounded by all of you, I keep expecting Athena to walk in from the other room and then I remember that they are gone.” Belinda wasn’t crying herself to sleep anymore, but the grief was still very deep.

“If there’s anything we can do, you let us know. You are one of us,” Skye reminded her as she headed out.

“Should we ban these sorts of movies?” Charlotte asked Europa and Aaricia as a trailer for some Alien invasion movie appeared. “They can only fuel the fear that some people have for Aliens.”

“Definitely. Appropriate representation matters, and all anyone sees on TV are that Aliens will come down in their spaceships and attack. No one has ever seen a single spaceship, although they must exist to abduct people.” Europa hated the misinformation that left most people completely confused about what being an Alien meant and how they arrived on Simterra.

“Maybe once we find the new Sixam, people will become better informed,” Aaricia mused while she played with RonRoneo.

“Can we please not start about New Sixam again,” Skye said with frustration.

“Not all of us are Simterran lovers, Skye.”

“What’s that suppose to mean?”

“If I had the opportunity to live on a planet dominated by Aliens, I would do it,” Aaricia replied.

“What makes you think that New Sixam would be dominated by Aliens, and not by Humans as well? Sixam might well be, but who knows what a New Sixam would be like.”

Skye and Aaricia’s argument was quickly and suddenly de-escalated by the rather wet sound of kissing.

The two looked at each other, and burst out laughing before Aaricia cupped her hands and called to Peter and Gemini “Get a room!”

“I apologize, Aaricia, I am not against a New Sixam. I just worry it sounds like a promised land with all our problems solved, and that just won’t be reality.”

Aaricia took her point. “I do like Simterra. And I like Simterrans. It would be nice, though, to not be the ones considered “Other.”

Peter and Gemini, meanwhile, did take their advince. The room they found was the bathroom, but that didn’t stop them from making out.

“Did you two escape the argument in here?” Lysander asked when he found Charlotte and Europa hanging out in the bedroom.

“Yes, Charlotte was just telling me that Aliens are not only qualified to go to University now, but also to private school.” 

“Sit with us,” Charlotte beckoned.

“These are important changes. With better educations, it will mean Aliens can’t be excluded from jobs as they have been.” Charlotte was already working with the Mayor to implement new changes. She would have to wait until Summer for the next election to run for a seat herself.

“It’s like we are back to what things were like 30 or 40 years ago. What’s to stop a backswing?” Europa asked.

“We are,” Lysander replied, “There are more of us now, and we know who our allies are. We have to keep pushing. Even if it’s exhausting.”

Charlotte said nothing. She would keep pushing, but she also understood that she did have the privilege of being able to stop if she wanted to. Lysander and Europa would push because they had the heart, but also because they had no other choice.

Huntsville Revived #322

A few weeks later, after the newly arrived Aliens had gotten settled, it was time for a celebration. They would celebrate the growing community, they would celebrate their right to vote, and they would celebrate Skye’s birthday.

“It’s time for the cake, everyone!” Lysander announced. The Desert Tech new residents gathered with the current ones to watch Skye blow out her candles.

Skye looked around her before she made the transition. Not everyone in the community was there, but it was a full house.

She noted her brother, Sorren, his love, Lauren, and her nephew, Castor. Europa and Lysander represented the rest of the Goldsun siblings. Charlotte wouldn’t have missed this party for the world. And the three adults who had just arrived from Desert Tech - Sisko Nerys with his bright purple hair, Ronan Kaye who had clear signs of mixed heritage, his skin a Human colour though his eyes and eye-markings clearly showed what he was, and Barish Byzan, the human father of an Alien child. 

Three years ago, stuck in that damned enclosure, Skye could not have imagined such a party. 

The joy, the cheers, the friendship that filled the room. Skye was ready to become an elder.

She blew out the candles, and began the transition.

She took a look at herself. “I don’t look so bad,” she thought. In fact, she looked pretty good.

Skye was excited to embark on this next stage in her life’s journey.

“This is an interesting crowd,” Ronan began. He hoped that the teenager might be more forthcoming to explain to him what was going on. “The woman in the blue tank top, she’s not an Alien.”

“No. Lauren is...something else. She was born human and then something happened to her. Scientists couldn’t figure it out, so she’s generally considered an Alien regardless.”

“She clearly belongs in this community. But what about the woman in black. What’s her connection?”

“Charlotte? She and Skye have been best friends since college.”

“College? So she’s just a Human?”

Castor actually laughed when he said that. “She is just a Human, but one that has been our friend. It’s people like her who reversed things in Hunstville when they started to get really bad.”

“Hi. I’m told your Charlotte, and a Human?” Ronan was the type to face confrontation head on. If this Human was considered welcome, he would assess the situation for himself.

“Hello. You’re Ronan, right? Oh, you might want to sit down...those two should get a room, but they probably won’t.” Charlotte’s smile was warm. Sorren and Lauren clearly heard her and paid the comment no mind. 

“What’s your Alien connection?” Ronan asked. The only Human he trusted was Barish Byzan, the birth father of an Alien baby.

“My husband’s brother was Skye’s father and an Alien. Two of his grandchildren are Aliens too. But I’m only recently married. Skye is my best friend. She’s my Alien connection.”

Ronan wasn’t sure what to make of that. It seemed awfully suspicious to him, but none of the Nickelton Aliens seemed to mind.

Meanwhile, Astra dragged Skye into her bedroom.

“How do I solve this math problem?” she demanded.

Astra was the only teenager Skye had ever met who would drag her mother out of her own birthday party to do math homework, but she helped her all the same.

“Do you mind if I ask, what were things like in Desert Valley?” Europa asked Barish. She found it interesting that the Alien refugees looked to him as their leader when he was a Human.

“When I realized I was pregnant, with an Alien child of course, I hid it. The moment it was discovered, I had to choose - my child or the life I had known until then. I chose Constance, and we ended up in a barracks with all the other Aliens of Desert Valley. I had never really understood how terribly Aliens were treated until then - I had never met one before, because they had been separated from us for so long. But this is not a conversation for a celebration.”

Europa wanted to urge Barish to continue but she knew better than to push him.

“It’s so nice to meet new people,” Sisko said to Charlotte, “A Human woman handing out at an Alien party. I haven’t seen such a thing for decades.”

“It’s quite the common site here,” Charlotte assured him. 

Skye’s birthday and the arrival of the refugees was quite the success.

Aaricia and Lysander’s wedding was the event of the season for all invited.

Skye - This is such a beautiful event. It’s such a shame Athena is not here with us.

Sorren - And Belinda too. Coming today would have been too hard for her, but her absence is really clear.

Lysander - So, you and Peter, kissing here for all to see?

Aphrodite - What of it?

Lysander - Nothing, I guess? Look, the food’s being served. Let’s focus on the dinner.

As Aphrodite and Peter joined Gemini and Sorren at the table, Lysander was pleased to see that his sisters seemed to be pleasant enough to each other. Whatever was going on with them and Peter made no sense to him, but he just wanted them to be happy.

Meanwhile, Skye did a quick-change after realizing she and Europa had been wearing the same outfit, and Mars tried to stay low-key, playing with Charlie and hoping to avoid Aunt Margery tasking him with homework

Aaricia - Lysander, Matthew, grab some dinner before it’s all gone.

Things got pretty crazy when a kicky-bag competition broke out in the kitchen.

Archer - Oh, sorry, do you mind if I join you? There are so many people here, and this room seems the only place to get a quick break.

Pilar - Not at all. But I should clarify, since two people lying on a bed like this often is followed by woohoo. I’m gay, so I’m not interested.

Archer - Ah, yes, I can see how this might give that impression, however, I am happily engaged and have no intentions either.

Pilar - Glad to hear that.

Archer - So...um...did you watch the SimAwards the other night?

Aphrodite - *And I thought Peter had intentions of going home with me tonight.*

Apollo - This party has been absolutely amazing. I can’t wait until I find my life partner, like Aaricia and Lysander have.

Aaricia and Lysander had been together for over 25 years, but they had not been legally allowed to marry, until now.

Lysander - Are you ready to marry me in front of all our friends and family?

Aaricia - Yes. 100 times Yes!

The guests gathered outside Aaricia and Lysander’s small house in the Sixam neighbourhood. The wedding would be outside; the reception inside.

Romance was in the air.

Sorren - Darling, I can hardly wait until it is our turn.

Lauren - I can hardly wait either, but today is all about Aaricia and Lysander, so let’s try to be a bit patient.

Peter - Aphrodite, your beauty forces me to my knees. You are absolutely stunning.

Gemini - *I’m standing RIGHT here. I’m going to go sit down and pretend I’m not seeing this.*

Aphrodite - *Gemini is standing RIGHT there. But you’re looking at me, Peter* Peter! You absolute flirt.

Peter - That dress looks terrific on you. It would also look terrific on my bedroom floor. But perhaps we should save that for later.

Aphrodite - Sounds great to me. I’d like to see that suit on the floor myself.

Gemini ignored what was happening just out of her peripheral vision. Today was the day her big brother was getting married. That was all that mattered. And what an exciting day, with so many guests, including Matthew Hunt!! The Heir was at the first Alien wedding in Huntsville Region. And no wonder, it was his sister getting married.

Huntsville Revived #51

Wow - Post 51! Thank you so much to those who have been liking these posts. I’m enjoying the different levels of game play, and sharing the plots I’ve got going on. 

So far, we’ve gotten through 7 households, out of 34. This is what happens when you play ALL of the descendants of your Sim founders, plus a few added folks.

We come to Household #8, Spring, Day 1-3.  Lauren Chang, Sorren and Castor Terrano.

Lauren Chang is a 51 years old who loves to make friends and meet new people (and be Popular!). She adores arranging flowers, painting and gardening. She and Sorren started dating before something happened to her - one day, her skin turned green, her hair fell out, and suddenly sunlight and water were much more important than food.

No one understands what happened to her, including the scientists who spent several years doing experiements (with her consent). She’s not an Alien, but that doesn’t mean the types who are Anti-Alien aren’t also Anti-whatever Lauren is.

She’s not letting those opinions get in her way.

Sorren is 47 years old, seeks Pleasure first and Grilled Cheese sandwiches next. His sandwiches are quite extraordinary - he is an excellent cook. He also has had the pleasure of being abducted by the Aliens in their flying saucers, which is where is son, Castor came from.

Castor Terrano is 14 years old. He’s already at the top of his teen career. He’s an extremely hardworker. He knows that for Aliens to have their freedom guarenteed, they need secure finances. He also never for a moment forgets his twin brother, Pollux, who died when they were kids. While it was not from any direct act of the Anti-Alien community, he knows his brother would still be around if they had not been Aliens.

Sorren and Lauren continue to adore each other and to have no problem with the entire world knowing it.

That includes singing loudly and badly, on a lovely date to Midnight Flows.

And this concludes Spring, Day 1-3 for Household 8 - Lauren Chang, Sorren and Castor Terrano.

Huntsville Revived #55

Sorren and Lauren hosted another party.

Peter - Yes, Violet said she was blinded by a bright light, and she can’t remember anything else.

Athena - Do you think the light affected her eyes differently than it would have affected our eyes?

Europa - Even when we get abducted, we learn nothing!

Sorren - To the table, everyone. I have just finished preparing my latest version of the Grilled Cheese sandwich!

Athena - It’s a good thing Sorren makes a really good Grilled Cheese. I can’t tell the difference between this one and the last version he made.

Skye - Shhhh! My little brother is very sensitive. Don’t let him know! 

Later that night.

Sorren - Everyone loved my new sandwich!

Lauren - I’m so happy for you. Congratulations.

Sorren and Lauren are always affectionate. 

Lauren - Have a great day a work, love! *More kisses* I’m sure you’ll create an even more delicious creation today.

Sorren - When I get home, I will tell you all about my latest version of the Grilled Cheese sandwich.

While Sorren was at work, Lauren retreated to her conservatory.

Lauren - “Dear Diary, I remember eating Grilled Cheese before turning into, whatever I became, but now that I don’t need to eat anymore, it sounds just as interesting as all other foods I no longer experience. I don’t think everyone else, who EAT, appreciate the wonder that subtle taste difference might be. I do love when Sorren tells me all about his sandwiches.”

Lauren spent a lot of time in her conservatory. It was definitely the place she was happiest.

Huntsville Revived #52

Though Lauren was obviously different, the Alien community had welcomed her with open arms. And while Huntsville and Nickelton had become a lot more accepting of late, the local Aliens were friends and enjoyed each others company a lot.

Lauren and Sorren could not keep their hands off each other since they had been reunited. 

Aaricia - I don’t know if I would be making out with quite such passion if my sister was right beside me.

Europa - That’s because your sister is not happily married. You know her husband is Hathor’s father, right?

Aaricia - I do, and so does everyone else here, but Margery doesn’t. And there’s no reason for her to learn it either.

Skye - Honestly, Aaricia, watching these two reunited is more romantic than a Hallmark movie. These chips are a great substitute for popcorn.

Gemini - So Violet really got abducted?

Peter - That’s what she said. I’m glad it wasn’t me. I’m not sure I’m ready to be a father.

Gemini - Good to know. (Does not remind Peter that she has a teenage daughter and twin sons).

Aaricia - Should we start making out in front of everyone?

Lysander - I think we can leave that to Sorren and Lauren.

Lauren - *Kiss* *Kiss* *Kiss*

Sorren - Oooh Lauren!!!

Huntsville Revived #17

Lauren Chang had gone missing even before the Alien population had been displaced in what the Aliens referred to as the Dark Times.

It turns out that she was being held in a facility of the SCIA. There, they had treated her decently for a prisoner and, while they had tried to figure out how someone who had been born “normal” have become Alien-like, the procedures had been non-invasive.

Still, she had been separated from those she loved. She’s delighted to be reunited with Sorren.

Meanwhile, in the background, you can see Terren and Caelum (before his make over) practicing fighting.

Caelum is clearly putting these skills to use towards those he believes has wronged him and his.
