The Healer’s Vow: Master-Post 🧝🏾‍♀️
Tumblr media
Welcome, fellow dark fantasy enthusiasts, to the master post for The Healer’s Vow which has been an exhilarating adventure to write, filled with intense emotional moments, rich and exhausting world-building, and deep character development. If you're drawn to the relentless pursuit of justice, the intricate web of political relationships, or the clash of light and dark magic, check it out for yourself!
Before we dive into the enthralling synopsis and detailed character profiles, it is important to acknowledge that "The Healer’s Vow" contains themes that may be triggering for some readers. The story includes scenes of SA, specifically an assault on Adisa, the MC which is central to her transformation into the Nightshade Sorceress. These scenes are handled with sensitivity, aiming to convey the profound impact of such events on the characters’ lives and their subsequent quests for vengeance and redemption. Reader discretion is advised.
Genres:
• Dark Fantasy
• Epic Revenge Tale
• Mythological Adventure
Synopsis (Prologue & Descriptions of Ch. 1 & 2):
In the medieval heart of Syrithya, the quaint-idyllic village of Zyx is unexpectedly shattered by a brutal attack from corrupt noblemen. Adisa, a dedicated healer among the villagers, is accused of witchcraft due to the central power of the nobility's ignorance. Adisa learned her healing spells, herbology, and archaic affinities from her mother before she passed. She raises her younger sister Victoria all on her own with the help of the village of course. They live somewhat peaceful lives with everyone. Yet, just about 20 miles north, the Nobility looms, in the armory room getting eager to plunder, pillage, murder, etc. all to maintain and enforce the Leader of the Noblemen's rule.
So they descended upon her village in the dead of night. Throwing everyone from their homes onto the surrounding dirt. Before gathering them all to falsely accuse Adisa of being a wielder of the dark arts... not yet anyway. Wink. But this is all an excuse for the nobles to indulge in their own sick perversions. So, before she is almost "executed," she is unable to protect her sister nor does know her whereabouts causing a rising feeling of anxiety and dread in the bellies of her stomach; the nobility snatches her up in a matter of seconds after seeing her use her spells and healing to help. Adisa is forced to endure a harrowing SA at the hands of the noblemen: Sir Gregory, Lord Eran Harkam, Baron Radomir Valtierra, and Sir Oryn Ghael. They left her to freeze to death since now her clothes lay torn around her. If that wasn't enough, they burned her entire village to the ground, pillaging to their heart's content.
The aftermath was nothing short of a horrific scene, the body of her 10-year-old sister Victoria is the catalyst for her sanity break. The profound shock, grief, and rage culminating in that desolate moment ignite a devious transformation, she lets out chillingly devastating blood-curdling screams that wail through the forest for miles to go, as she holds and cradles the light of her life as if she were willing her back to life.
"Wake up, Vic.. wake UP!" she pleaded through her tears.
"This isn't real, This can't be real!"
"It's just a nightmare, Addi. We will wake up soon.."
The surrounding forest, even the ground itself responds to her cries enveloping her in this dark cloud as she emerges as the Nightshade Sorceress, wielding dark powers she'd never imagined. Her journey from healer to sorceress is marked by the consuming darkness within her, a stark contrast to the life she once knew. The tranquility of her village was replaced by the haunting memories of violence and loss, pushing her towards a path of vengeance that she embraces with relentless determination. She tried to revive her sister after realizing she has some connection to the afterlife. It didn't... work. Forcing her into the Healer's Vow, her solitary promise herself until she has succeeded, 'all I need is vengeance,'
"This is my vow. To the villagers of Zyx, to Rick, to... Adisa." barely escaped her lips as a solitary tear fell from her cheek. I promise you all; that Sir Gregory, Lord Eran Harkam, Baron Radomir Valtierra, and Sir Oryn Ghael will fall. Each of them is responsible, each one of them, All I need is retribution; those bastards will pay for what they took from me...from us, V."
She held Victoria's favorite doll in her hand, the loss of pure innocence made her lose all of her own in a matter of seconds. She was all alone. This was her shedding Adisa and burying her in Zyx, with Victoria, fully embodying Kirjani, a name of great potential.
'I am, Kirjani the Nightshade Sorceress...'
Driven by a burning desire for vengeance, Adisa embarks on a quest to hunt down the men who destroyed her life. Along her path, she reunites with Rick, her first love and fellow survivor of the attack. They dated for a very short while when they were teenagers, but now their bond is one of deep friendship and mutual dependence, especially after the attack. At this point in the story, Rick is all Kirjani has left so, to establish Rick can never leave her side again, Adisa transforms him into an immortal Shadow Walker through a dark elixir. Rick's new abilities allow him to move unseen in the shadows, making him an invaluable ally. He becomes the Diablo to Kirjani's 'Maleficent' and their bond deepens as they navigate their complex feelings about the dark magic that binds them, and Rick’s sarcastic humor and resilience provide a counterbalance to the growing darkness within Kirjani.
Their journey through Syrithya was a tumultuous one, it took them about 4 months to even reach brings them to Raelin, a fierce warrior with her own vendetta. Raelin’s village was also destroyed by the same noblemen, and she seeks justice with the same fervor as Adisa. Her fiery spirit and strategic mind make her a formidable ally and a source of strength for Adisa. Raelin's presence challenges Adisa to find hope and love amidst their journey of darkness. The bond between these three warriors deepens, creating a formidable trio determined to bring justice to the corrupt nobility. Raelin's tactical brilliance and unwavering determination add a new dynamic to their quest, forcing Adisa to confront her own vulnerability and the possibility of redemption amidst the shadows of her past.
As the trio plots their revenge, each confrontation with the noblemen becomes a test of Adisa’s resolve and power. Rick, grappling with his feelings about the dark magic that saved him, finds himself torn between his loyalty to Adisa and his own moral compass. This tension peaks as Rick grows closer to Lena, a newcomer with her own shadowy abilities and a past marked by similar atrocities. Lena’s necromantic powers and her struggle to balance them with her healing nature reflect the ongoing theme of light versus dark. She is a resilient and introspective character, often caught between her desire for revenge and her innate compassion. Lena's presence in the group forces them all to confront their inner demons and the duality of their nature, as they navigate the complexities of their relationships and their shared mission of vengeance.
Meanwhile, Alaric, the ruler of Syrithya, grows increasingly paranoid as the threat of the Nightshade Sorceress looms larger... and closer. His desperation to maintain control leads him to implement brutal measures, further showcasing the corrupting influence of power. Alaric’s tall, imposing stature and sharp, calculating eyes reflect his authoritative and ruthless nature. Unbeknownst to him, his wife Harmony secretly plots her own rise to power. Harmony’s cunning and deceitful nature make her a formidable adversary. She is beautiful in a cold, calculated way, with flawless features and an air of superiority. Her manipulative schemes add layers of intrigue and betrayal to the story. The interplay of power and deception within Alaric's court highlights the fragile nature of his rule and sets the stage for the ultimate confrontation between the forces of darkness and light.
The climactic battle against Alaric’s forces culminates in a shocking betrayal within his ranks, setting the stage for an even greater conflict. As Adisa navigates the treacherous political landscape that follows, she must reconcile her dark powers with the compassion that once defined her, all while new threats loom on the horizon. The journey from vengeance to redemption is fraught with peril, as Adisa and her allies confront their deepest fears and the shadows of their past. The final confrontation not only tests their physical strength but also their moral fortitude, as they strive to overcome the darkness within and bring justice to the land of Syrithya.

Characters:
Adisa "Kirjani" Palmer
Adisa Palmer is the heart and soul of The Healer’s Vow. Once a gentle healer in the peaceful village of Zyx, her life is irrevocably changed by the brutal attack that kills her sister, resulting in her sexual assault at the hands of the realm's “protectors”; destroying not only her home but her sanity. Grief and rage transform her into Kirjani, the Nightshade Sorceress, a figure of dark power and fierce determination for retribution. A black woman with taupe/mocha skin, long, flowing coily blonde hair, and hazel eyes that have darkened with the intensity of her dark magic. Standing at an average 5’9 her presence enters the room before she does. Adisa vowed that night to enact her revenge on every single one of those men who took her sister from her Kirjani’s journey is one of vengeance and redemption, as she grapples with the duality of her nature—struggling to balance the healer she once was with the avenger she has become.
Garrick “Rick” Bramwell
In the aftermath of the Zyx attack, fueled by Adisa’s newfound fears, transformed her first love–turned best friend Garrick, or Rick as she annoyingly calls him, into an immortal Shadow Walker using a dark elixir she created. Although they dated from the ages of 16 to 19, they now consider each other to be very good friends. Rick's new abilities allow him to move unseen in the shadows, making him an invaluable ally. He possesses a blend of blind loyalty to Adisa, now Kirjani, resilience, and sarcastic humor, which often lightens the mood in their darkest moments. Rick is a rugged black man who's no stranger to physical labor, with an ironically handsome appearance with dark hair, styled in a bundle of nature-ridden dreadlocks, and now, piercing black eyes that seem to see through the veil of reality. His transformation not only mirrors Adisa's fear of abandonment but also reflects their shared struggle to navigate their new, shadowy existence.
Raelin "Rae" Vespera
Raelin is the warrior every epic tale needs. Fierce, strategic, and unyielding, she joins Adisa and Rick with a vendetta of her own. Her fiery spirit and tactical brilliance make her a formidable force in their quest for vengeance. Raelin’s presence challenges Adisa to find hope and love amidst their journey of darkness. She has striking features, with dark olive skin, fiery red hair, and a strong, athletic build that speaks to her prowess in battle. Raelin’s character embodies the potential for human connection and compassion, providing a beacon of light in their dark quest.
Lena Gildersyn
Lena, a newcomer to the trio, shares a past marked by atrocities similar to Adisa's. She possesses her own shadowy abilities, with a deep connection to necromantic powers. Lena struggles to balance her dark abilities with her inherent healing nature, reflecting the theme of light and dark within the story. She is a resilient and introspective character, often caught between her desire for revenge and her innate compassion. Physically, Lena has a fair complexion, with gentle features, dark wavy hair, and eyes that convey both her pain and her strength. Her developing bond with Rick adds another layer of complexity to the group dynamics.
Alaric Halloway
Alaric, the ruler of Syrithya, is a figure of power and paranoia. As the story progresses, his increasing fear of the Nightshade Sorceress drives him to implement tighter control and more brutal measures. Alaric is a complex antagonist, whose desperation makes him both dangerous and pitiable. He has a commanding presence, with a tall, imposing stature and sharp, calculating eyes. His character explores the corrupting influence of power and the lengths one will go to maintain it.
Harmony Halloway
Despite her cheery-sounding name; Harmony, Alaric’s wife, is insufferably manipulative and ambitious. She secretly plots against her husband, aiming to rise to power herself. Think quintessential daddy's girl and “pick me,” energy. Yeah, I know. Harmony’s cunning and deceitful nature make her a formidable adversary. She is beautiful in a cold, calculated way, with flawless features and an air of superiority. Her interactions with other characters reveal her true intentions, adding layers of intrigue and betrayal to the story. Harmony represents the dark side of ambition and the impact of treachery within the ranks of power. Her light and illusion magic contrast sharply with Kirjani's dark necromancy, setting the stage for dynamic and dramatic confrontations.

Don’t you guys have a feeling that House of the Dragon, for a series that officially and according to its own creators, is supposed to portray strong female characters and have a feminist message, terribly badly portrays female political figures?
Like, I’m sorry but main players in HotD are mostly men, not women 😞

Tumblr media
(From Culhwch and Olwen)
Tumblr media
(From Vita Merlini)
I've been bitten by the idea bug and have been brainstorming about how Guinevere and Morgan can each have their own women-only orders/girl gangs.
So here's a concept of Gwen and Morgan's gangs with the caveat rule of "they're always grouped in numbers of Nine" (because Nine is a mystical number and stuff, lol). Its a work in progress through:
Morgan's Group:
Morgan le Fay/la Dieuesse
Sebile (could be identified with anyone below)
Queen of Norgales
Queen of Eastland and/or Sorestan?
Queen of the Outre Isles?
Lady of Avalon? (Possibly Enfeidas, see below)
Lady Bertilak?
?
?
Guinevere's Group:
Guinevere
Isolde
Enide
Lady of Malehaut/Bloie
Creiddylad?
Olwen?
Maleagant's Sister?
Elibel/Elyzabel?
?
Undecided, Unaffiliated, or are second-degree related:
Nimue/Vivianne
Guinevere's other relatives (Lenomie, Flori, Jandree)
Brangwaine
Fenice and Thessala
Hellawes
Annowre
Britomart
Silence
Indeg
Tegan Eurfron/Guinier
Laudine and Lunette
Perse (Hector de Maris' Beloved)
Guinloie?
Lady of Nohaut?
Isolde White Hands?
Brandegorre's daughter?
Exceptions (people who I feel shouldn't be part of either Guinevere or Morgan's groups for one reason or another) are:
Morgause, her daughters (Soredamors, Clarissant) and daughters-in-Law (Guinevak-Cwyllog, Lynette and Lyonesse, Ragnelle, etc.),
Elaine of Garlot/Blasine/Brimesent, Elaine of Benoic/Clarine/Gostanza.
Older generation ladies like Igraine, Igraine's Sisters, Isolde the Elder, Blanchefleur/Elizabeth/Tristan's mom, Enfeidas and Ganieda
Grail Saga Ladies: Dindrane/Percival's sister, Amite/Elaine of Corbenic, Brisen, Queen of the Wastlelands and Kundry.
Elaine of Astolat
Tryamour/Lanval's Beloved?
Morfydd? Gaia Pulzella?
Percival's Beloveds (Angharad, Blanchefleur, Kondwiramurs)
the Beloveds of the next generation (Blonde Esmeree, Marthe, Elsa, etc.)
The next generation ladies (Archfedd, Melora, Gyneth, Seleucia, Licorida, Andronia, Enneuawc, Kelemon, etc.)

DanganWLWeek 2023 day four: Mastermind
I decided to use todays prompt as the perfect excuse to show my Mastermind Himiko design! As you can see I designed one in 2021 (which I also never posted lol) and I redid it earlier in the year… and then also forgot to post that one. So here she is! Himiko Yemeno; Ultimate Sorceress! I’ve got (most of) a fic to go with her so I’m hoping to possibly get it ready to post around Halloween!

Astarion x fTav fanfic
(Note: I posted this as a part of another thread and the fic was bigger than I anticipated. I am posting here as my own separate post. Mostly for myself but whoever else reads it, please enjoy!
This oneshot is my HC version of the poly convo with Astarion. I wish Tav could politelly decline Halsin and then talk with Astarion about it. The scene starts after Astarion says he'd be fine with Tav sexing Halsin up. Which my Tav is defo not gonna do...)
She frowns, taking a small step back. It stings a bit, the thought Astarion would be fine if she shared her body with the druid. But then she noticed that curve of his pretty mouth, that signature fake smile she recognizes now.
"Why would I do that?" She keeps her voice low but the slight irritation comes through anyway.
He hears it, of course he does. He's great at reading people. His next words are more genuine. "Well... it's not like I have much to offer at the moment. And with my past... my generous amount of so called lovers... It's not like I can stop you from having a good time."
The more he talks, the more vulnerable look creeps into his face. Her chest tightens, the familiar ache when she sees him like this - strugling with the shadows of his past, the pain seeping through.
She moves closer to Astarion, watching his reaction. There is tension in the air, something she didn't want at all. She meant to tell him about the conversation with Halsin as a joke. She thought it was funny! How could she even think about being with someone other than her vampire?! Ridiculous!
"This... us, we want this to be real, no?" She touches her heart and then his heart in an elven fashion. She leaves her hand on his chest as if seeking for his heartbeat.
He nods, eyes uncertain where this is going. He's so endearing like this, her sweet, lovable rogue. To confirm his gesture, Astarion closes his bigger hand on top of hers and caresses it carefuly.
"I do, you know I do. I just wish I could offer you more. I wish... I could erase all the memories of those countless meaningless bodies and hands and mouths... "
She stops him by putting a gentle hand on his cheek. "Then lets create new memories." She tries to make him feel all the care and adoration she feels for this silly, frustrating, amazing man. And love, something she is still too afraid to tell him. It feels too big to share. She keeps it close to her hearth as something sweet and precious.
She stands on her toes and puts a light kiss on one of his cheeks, the one with that small beauty mark. "I have such a good time with you, whatever we're doing," she whispers and it sounds like a secret shared just between the two of them.
She kisses the top of his nose playfully. "You reading one of your adventure books with Drizzt aloud or teaching me how to lockpick." She kisses the corner of his mouth and feels his arm sneaking around her waist and pulling her closer. She gasps a little, she always does and it makes him hum hapilly.
"There is nowhere I'd rather be. I have no desire to explore what Halsin has to offer as a lover. Or any of the others. I am yours as long as you'll have me," she finishes and hates how her face and neck flush with pink. She is 137 years old and being with this damned vampire makes her blush...
But it makes him smile and relax. He crooks his eyebrows in that charming way of his. "And I thought I am the one with a silver toungue."
She chuckes and puts her arms around his neck. This feels good and right and the tension is gone and forgotten. "Well... I had a good teacher."
He feigns shock. "Another suitor! Do I know him?"
"You might. He's very charming. Roguish and witty. Very funny. Very brave. Handsome as hell," she sighs dreamily.
Astarion tuts and tightens his arms around her. "Do I have to kill him as well, Sparkles? I planned on getting rid of the big druid already. You know I killed a bear before..."
This time she kisses his lips because you can't be this close to Astarion and not kiss him. He kisses her back more fiercely, cupping the back of her head in his hand and making her bow back a bit. Greedy man.
It's been a while since they kissed like this. It's thrilling and sweet and feels like a promise when his tongue slips between her lips and tastes her. It makes her curl her toes and forget anything other than the sharpness of his fangs. The way his velvet toungue leads hers in this dance. How he pushes her so close to his body so there no place for anything else. Just like in those silly novels she always thought are just a fantasy. But this... it makes her want, want, want...
She makes quiet needy noises and feels her magic spike up. Fine sparkles fly in the air, like their own personal bonfire. They kiss his skin and it feels as if he's touched by sunlight. He grunts as he realizes he's the cause of this, he makes her lose control and sparkle for him.
She pulls away before the magic can hurt him.
"How is that for a new memory?" She bumps her nose into his gently. She loves his nose. She started to love everything about this man.
"Perfect." His eyes are still closed and he breathes her in. His anchor, his friend, his confidant. She smells like home. "You're perfect, Sparkles."
She laughs quietly, a small happy sound. Then she straightens up and pulls back. "Now where were we? You won't believe the conversation I just had with Halsin!"

i fear i must disagree with your post about vampire mating being like werewolf imprinting. werewolf imprinting is immediate and all consuming and can be platonic/familial, while vampire mating is more like humans falling in love and they just never fall out of love because they are unchanging. They're basically just stuck in the perpetual honeymoon phase.
Vampire mating isn’t all-consuming and immediate? We get evidence otherwise from the books.
Carlisle and Esme? Love at first sight. Esme even loved Carlisle before as a human girl. Rosalie and Emmett? Love at first sight too. Alice and Jasper? Alice fell in love with a vision of Jasper before she even met him. Jasper fell in love at first sight. Garrett and Kate? Pretty much the same. When a vampire’s mate dies, the other half goes wild with either vengeance (Victoria, Irina) or longing for death (Edward, Marcus). This is true for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian vampires (although the vegetarian vampires’ connections are said to be deeper). Edward and Bella are an outlier because of Bella’s humanity muddling things a little. And even they became very quickly obsessed with each other.
The only difference is that werewolf imprinting can be platonic/familial, as you correctly pointed out. It can also develop into something more or stay the same, depending on the imprintee’s needs. Vampire romantic relationships don’t change in that way.
But otherwise, it’s clear that Meyer meant for the vampires and the Quileute wolves to be mirrors of one another. The wolves are written to be in every way just as capable as vampires: They run just as fast, have teeth that can pierce vampire skin, don’t age like vampires unless they stop phasing…and of course, their love relationships are just as powerful, transformative, and permanent.
Either way, vampires don’t really have a choice in whom they love either. They just rationalize their love for their mate in ways the wolves can’t.

A Peek into the Nightshade Curse
Here's a first look at Kirjani—I crafted this myself using the Neku app!
Tumblr media
Kirjani, the Nightshade Sorceress, is a complex character defined by her deep scars and unyielding determination. Her dual-colored eyes—one a deep red, the other a piercing purple—reflect her internal struggle between vengeance and the remnants of her once-innocent soul. Born from anguish, her past is marred by the violent loss of her village and loved ones. Initially, a healer named Adisa transforms into Kirjani, a sorceress driven by a burning desire for retribution against the corrupt nobility that tore her life apart.
Her connection to the original Nightshade Sorceress, a figure of legend from 786 years ago, serves as both a curse and a source of immense power. The original Nightshade Sorceress was betrayed by those she sought to protect, leading to her descent into darkness and the casting of the diabolical Nightshade Curse. This spellbound her to the cycle of vengeance and rebirth every 125 years. This curse passes down to those who inherit her anguish and anger, and Kirjani is the latest to bear this burden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirjani’s struggle is a real doozy. She is not only battling her external enemies but also facing the darkness that threatens to swallow her whole. Talk about a tough gig! She is juggling the powers of the healer she once was with the dark sorcery she now commands. This duality is no joke; her magic can heal wounds just as easily as it can wreak havoc.
Her journey is a rollercoaster of inner turmoil. She is caught between the desire to shield her world from the catastrophic consequences of the Nightshade Sorceress’s full awakening and the burning urge to seek revenge. Kirjani’s path is not merely about retribution; it is about discovering balance in a realm where light and dark are in a constant tug-of-war. Will she rise to be the hero her world desperately needs? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: it is going to be one wild ride.
Kirjani’s transformation is both physical and emotional. Her hair, once dark, has turned a stark platinum, and her attire has shifted from the bright colors of her past to the darker tones that reflect her new identity. Despite the darkness within her, Kirjani still possesses a strong sense of justice, although it is now twisted by her experiences and the power she wields. She masks her pain with cynical humor and uses it as a shield to keep others at bay, but her interactions with her companions, like Rick and Raelin, reveal the remnants of the caring person she once was.
Her relationship with Rick, her first love, is complicated by their shared trauma and his unspoken emotions that linger between them. Kirjani looks at Rick as another piece of her old life that she will do anything to keep; she decides to use the immortality curse on him Rick’s transformation into a Shadow Walker, a decision made by Kirjani in a moment of desperation, adds another layer of complexity to their dynamic. Kirjani’s actions are driven by a need to protect those she cares about, but she is constantly aware of the line she walks between salvation and damnation.
As the Nightshade Sorceress, Kirjani is a figure of both fear and admiration. Her power is immense, but it comes with the cost of her humanity. Her ultimate goal is to prevent the original Nightshade Sorceress from crossing over into their world, a fate that would bring about global destruction. Kirjani’s journey is one of sacrifice, as she must decide how far she is willing to go to protect her world, even if it means losing herself in the process.
In the end, Kirjani’s story is one of redemption, power, and the struggle to maintain one’s humanity in the face of overwhelming darkness. Her character is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, even when it is bound by the chains of a cursed destiny.

“Everyone is a monster to someone. Since you are so convinced that I am yours, I will be it.”
--prompt from @demawrites
"And what do you make of me, young lady? Like how your husband sees us?" Iris analyzed Adele and her fragile form, her countenance teetering between pity, disgust, and inquisitiveness. Adele's hands trembled, with only a few scars and the two rings on her left hand distinguishing her from the other noblewomen of Hilda's court. And even then, Iris only noted the way Adele's fingers danced in the air.
"Is there anything else that I know? Forgive me; it seemed like your kind is dangerous to us," Adele replied, struggling to maintain her voice in front of the sorceress.
"Magic could save lives, as you, of all people, should know."
At that moment, Adele crooked her neck up; its scars radiating against the little light which came out of the cracks. Her collarbone was barely visible from underneath her skin, a sharp contrast to how they protruded a couple of years before. The warmth of her skin contrasted with the coolness which surrounded her; something burned which would've incinerated her a while ago.
"But how would you know? People like you would only bring harm--"
Iris didn't wait another second before flipping her hand and watching Adele's head contort; her eyes rolling onto the back of her head. A twinge of sympathy tickled her gaze, but not before she flung her hand back to her waist, and Adele held her head to keep herself from losing consciousness. A sudden darkness covered her head, as if a storm arrived once again for all its sorrows.
"How do you feel?" Iris murmured to the shaken shell of a women. When Adele's face lifted up to the sorceress' once again, only a glimmer of light remained, keeping her tethered to the mortal world.

WIP Re-Intro: The Forever Project
Tried this once here and none of that is strictly wrong, but I just wrote a killer blurb so we’re going again.
How would you fare if you became omnipotent on your fourteenth birthday? I imagine you might be able to figure something out given some time to get a handle on your newfound powers, but Hera Elizabeth Rider’s deicidal brother and waking up to the discovery that she’s transported herself out of her body and into a new world are not giving her that luxury. It takes her a deal with the devil, unwitting service to a vampire hunter, the creation of several gods, and one eccentric genius before she’s able to do anything with her powers on purpose, and by then it’s really not clear what the right thing to do even is.

Forever project: all tag games, short stories, random thoughts, and if I ever do them character intros for this work are tagged with this tag. It’s the one to block if you are mainly here for Twilight content.
Elise Godslayer: This is the tag for the MC, Hera Elizabeth Rider. She goes by Elise because there’s too many Hera’s in her family (in her world Mary goes by her syncretized Greek name, and so most European historical figures that in our world are named Mary are named Hera there) and Elizabeth is too long for her tastes. The godslayer part is arguably a spoiler, but it happens in chapter three so I’m not too worried. Elise is a fairly normal fourteen-year old, outside of her godlike powers. She likes music (she can play violin and fiddle), was just starting to figure out she might like some girls as more than friends, is wary of responsibility, and has a crushing need to be liked.
Davriel Godslayer: This is Elise’s birth brother, though they were raised separately: Davriel was never human. He started out with their theoretical mythological purpose: killing the Greater Demons, but when the gods separated Elise from his at birth out of fear, he began to expand his horizons; were they really so different from the forces they pretended to oppose? Davriel was given far too much time alone growing to stew in his own mind, and has convinced himself there could be no greater solution than him as god-emperor of everything. This is not to say, unfortunately, that he wouldn’t make a terrifyingly competent and entirely benevolent god-king, it is simply that his understanding of what he’s working with (the world) is a scoche incomplete.
Eric Melior: This is the blurb’s vampire hunter! What the blurb does not mention is that he is also a vampire and was born in 1892. I recently decided he would be a Lithuanian aristocrat, so his name is likely to change, but he is not. He’s a very steadfast type, committed to his ideals and those he was raised with. He was raised by a pro-Tzarist father and a mother who joined a cult upon her husband’s death, however.
Sorceress: Here we have our eccentric genius. The only person (human, centaur or siren) to discover how to use magic on a sentient creature! She used this power to give herself a pair of legs, having been born a siren but being too curious about the world to confine herself to the water. Even though Elise created her world, Sorceress is likely its most consequential figure.
Mlle Nefara: The most recent character to get a tag, Mlle Nefara is just trying to get rich. Unfortunately, honest means are not particularly available to her as a black woman in 1890s Europe, and so she has chosen the slightly easier route of lying to a bunch of rich people, telling them all about the supernatural threats only she can teach them how to defend themselves against. Her charisma and talent are serving her well in this endeavor until 1897, when a plague of monsters begins to creep through the land. They’re similar enough to the ones she’d made up for her sect to become increasingly popular, but she can’t be so lucky that the techniques she made up would actually defeat them.
Siren’s meet nada: Nada is the word for city among the most magically reckless group of humans on Globe, Sorceress’s world. They call the city that has built up around Sorceress’s first home on land Siren’s Meet, not because they really ever meet Sorceress (and very few know she was ever a siren regardless), but because the estuary has collected extremists and eccentrics from human and siren communities. While it was Sorceress’s presence (and her geologic engineering) that drew the first few citizens to the place, it continued to thrive long after she went to Nadalitas. I use this tag mainly for short stories and worldbuilding facts that take place in the city.
Nihil hunters: A nihil is the most dangerous of the monsters that have begun to infect Eric’s and Mlle Nefara’s world. They are at once vampire and wraith, and so lose many of the vulnerabilities of both. The tag is nihil hunters for their whole world, because vampire hunters, what they call themselves, is simply too generic.
Southern dragons: These are mostly a world building project, as their interaction with the magic system and spatial/temporal laws I’ve built for this project is generally quite illustrative. While they originated in the southern continent of Sorceress’s world, hence their name, they have since spread to other worlds, moving through space and reality with a degree of mysterious ease I think is suitable for dragons.
Spacewhaling: It may not be correct to include this tag with this project; in fact, it started as an independent concept. If it does intersect with Elise’s story, it would only be in the third or maybe even fourth book.

Pulling them into another kiss before either of them could catch their breaths. Defender/OFC of your choice, please
So, I started to fill this Ask three times, with three different scenarios, until I was able to finish this one. Not sure if I even like how it turned out, for it doesn't have the charm or ease I was hoping for. Still, at least it's written! Oh, and though you asked for one of my OFC's, I ended up using the same Sorceress that appears in my No Defense for the Heart series. Thank you so much for your patience and constant support, my friend!🥰🥰

Well this was not the way you'd planned to tell Stephen your life altering news. He had only arrived home from his latest mission with the Defenders twenty minutes ago, and you had hoped to allow him a while to acclimate to normal Sanctum life. Take a shower, see to any dings he may have suffered in whatever battle he'd endured, then sit down to one of his favorite home cooked meals (you'd learned once you'd moved to Bleecker Street, the necessity for a stasis spell; as Sorcerer Supreme and leader of the Defenders, his schedule was far too unpredictable to plan meals--so that you always had a couple set in stasis for when he had actual time to sit down and enjoy one). But all had been upended when you broke from his arms as you greeted him home, to rush to the bathroom before you lost your lunch all over him.
Stephen rapped firmly on the door again, his voice calm but clearly anxious. "You okay in there, honey?" You sat on the edge of the tub, breathing deeply while trying to calm the roiling in your tummy, not sure how to answer just yet. "Can I come in, baby? Maybe there's something I can do to help..."
You cleared your throat, then stood up on shaking legs. "Um...I'm alright..." You gave a quiet belch, hoping he didn't catch that. "Just give me a couple minutes and I'll be right out."
"Alright, Y/N...if you say so." Your heart gladdened at the concern and healthy skepticism in his reply. "But I'm not going anywhere until I can see for myself that you're okay."
"Yes, of course." You tried to sound lighthearted as you stepped to the bathroom sink and slathered paste on your toothbrush. "I just need to make myself presentable, darling." Plunging the brush in your mouth, you began to scrub your teeth and gums with the dedication of a newly minted dental hygienist. Once done, you splashed your face with water, noting how pale your cheeks appeared. Can't be helped, you thought, but maybe he won't notice. Following up with a double rinse of mint mouthwash, gargling each time. Hoping it would be enough to allay any suspicions Stephen might have that you weren't merely sick.
Taking one last look in the mirror, you fluffed your fingers through your hair and gave your cheeks a quick pinch to try a raise some healthier looking color. It would simply have to do. Composing your face to reflect a serenity that eluded you at the moment, you opened the door. The relief on Stephen's face at the sight of you made you smile sincerely.
"What happened, honey?"
You took his hand, leading him to the divan at the foot of the bed. "Nothing much, darling. I've just been...um...a little under the weather the past few days..."
His reaction was immediate; seeing that you were seated first, he laid a palm across your forehead. "Have you been feverish? Wong tells me there's a nasty bug running its course through Kamar-Taj - did you visit there while I was gone?"
"No...no," you assured him gently while urging him to sit, "Not since we were there together the week before last."
"Good," Stephen nodded, "Though you look really pale. Do you think it was something you ate? I know a charm that can help with that..."
"Yeah...no, I'm pretty sure it wasn't." You lowered you eyes, suddenly shy that the moment had come, and come so abruptly. Sensing your reticence, Stephen traced a finger along your jawline, stirring you to shiver, so that he immediately pulled you into his arms. You murmured against his neck, "And it may be a while until I'm gonna feel back to my old self..."
You felt him stiffen a little, his apprehension piqued by your cryptic reply. "Wait...is it something serious? Something requiring traditional medicine?" You realized you'd tripped Stephen's fierce protective instinct - something you had come to adore about him, especially when he directed it at you. "I knew the best doctors in every field in my days at Metropolitan General," he went on, a grim edge to his voice, "More than a few of them owe me favors..."
You shook your head against him, smiling despite how serious he'd become. "Darling, now as always, you're the only doctor I need." Moving enough to face him, running your fingertips across his furrowed brow, you added, "And you're the best medicine a woman... this woman...could ever hope for." Sighing hard, you twined the fingers of your left hand through his right, the diamond of your engagement ring softly glinting. "It's only that I've muddled up the order that we planned for ourselves...if...if you know what I mean..."
Now Stephen looked perplexed, for though you thought he had clues enough to reach the proper conclusion, this was one of those times when the answer was staring him in the face, but his prodigious mind failed to grasp the simplest of realities. "You know, the long-term plan. Engagement. Move in together. Tie the, uh...knot. And then, when the time is right..."
His eyes went wide as saucers while he gasped his surprise. "Start...start our family..." Stephen sputtered, "...when the time is finally right..."
"Uh-huh," you shrugged, feeling both sheepish and contrite, " I got a little ahead of schedule..."
"Oh, my baby doll," he grinned, "My sweet, sweet girl!" Barely leaving you a moment to draw breath, Stephen pulled you to him, planting his lips on yours, murmuring your name as he kissed then kissed and kissed you. Dazed and dazzled as you drew away, you had only a second to memorize his euphoric expression before he pulled your face to his again, for a deeper, more enduring kiss - which was all the assurance you needed to know that even the best laid plans of the most formidable Master of the Mystic Arts could be happily laid waste for sake of the woman who had laid her gentle, loving claim upon his heart.
