Yule und Yalda sind Winterfeste, die zur längsten Nacht des Jahres, der Wintersonnenwende, gefeiert werden. Beide haben alte Traditionen, die den Wechsel von Dunkelheit zu Licht feiern, und verbinden Gemeinschaft, Hoffnung und Erneuerung.

Was ist Yule?

• Ursprung: Aus keltischen und germanischen Traditionen.

• Bedeutung: Es feiert die Wiedergeburt der Sonne, den Sieg des Lichts und den Beginn eines neuen Zyklus.

• Bräuche:

• Der Yule-Log, ein Holzscheit, wird verbrannt, um Licht zu bringen.

• Immergrüne Pflanzen wie Tannenzweige und Misteln schmücken die Häuser.

• Feuer, Kerzen und Feste schaffen Wärme und Verbundenheit.

Was ist Yalda?

• Ursprung: Zoroastrische Wurzeln, seit Jahrhunderten im Iran gefeiert.

• Bedeutung: Der Triumph des Lichts über die Dunkelheit und der Beginn längerer Tage.

• Bräuche:

• Familie und Freunde bleiben bis Mitternacht wach, um die Nacht zu „überwinden“.

• Sommerfrüchte wie Granatäpfel und Wassermelonen symbolisieren Sonne und Leben.

• Traditionell werden Gedichte des persischen Dichters Hafez vorgelesen.

Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede

Gemeinsamkeiten:

• Beide Feste feiern die Wintersonnenwende.

• Licht und Wärme stehen im Mittelpunkt.

• Familie, Gemeinschaft und Festmahle spielen eine zentrale Rolle.

Unterschiede:

• Herkunft: Yule ist europäisch, Yalda persisch.

• Symbole: Yule nutzt immergrüne Pflanzen und Feuer, Yalda sommerliche Früchte und Poesie.

• Feierweise: Yalda konzentriert sich auf die Nacht, Yule wird oft über mehrere Tage gefeiert.

Yule und Yalda zeigen, wie Menschen weltweit die Verbindung zur Natur und die Hoffnung auf Licht und Neubeginn feiern – auf ihre eigene, aber oft ähnliche Weise.

When it comes to special times of the year, Gadag trolls have a celebration in alignment with the day cycles and their own biological clocks. This holiday is referred to as the Hibernale Sonnenwende (Hibernal Solstice), or Fest der längsten Nacht (Festival of the Longest Night) - and on the human calendar this takes place on the 21st of December.

The Hibernale/Fest is an opportunity for all Gadag trolls to get together end of the year to share a feast's worth of food and drinks prepared by almost every member of the village while being social. Gluhwein is a popular item brought the festivities, as well as roast meats. Fruit spreads, cheeses, pastry, and a variety of edible minerals also find their way to the communal space to be gorged on.

As Gadags eat the goals of their celebration are many: merriment, socialization, young Gadag to possibly find partners, and for families to exchange/collect gifts for the youths in their care (in order to keep them occupied when they wake from hibernation before their parents). The get-together usually lasts for a whole 24 to 48 hours - and then once all is done the Gadag disperse to go to their respective dens to do what they will before their bodies make them sleep until around springtime.

'Hey, Margaret?' A question hails from a familiar voice to grab attention before the changeling is offering out a fragrant parcel towards the Fixer as she turns. It was decorated with a green ribbon and pine sprig, with its signature tag of Glücklich Hibernale Sonnenwende!

'Got you a little something from one of my friends who loves to cook. How's your fridge space?' [ @crystal-grotto ]

Well now, this is unexpected! The Fixer perks up the minute her name is called and she turns over to see Alex approaching with a gift of sorts! A fairly sized, and extremely good smelling package holy shit-

"You... got dis fo' me??" She asked pressing a hand to her chest. Maybe she didn't expect to be getting anything from her friends, even if they were really good friends, but damn it never ceased to surprise her when it happened!

"...I think I got some space in th' fridge fo' dis, heh! Thanks!"

Once again it's that time of year. A parcel is snuck into a place where Milo will find it. Without being touched the bundle already seeped scents of various foods - both sweet and savory, for the faun to to enjoy; but a familiar green ribbon tied about it and a mini tag that scrawled Glücklich Hibernale Sonnenwende! denotated who it was from.

The creature would perk up at the sight of the basket, gangly hands would cup the basket with tenderness and care, a lone eye devoid of color would inspect the present given to them by a familiar figure in their life, their mind barely wrapping around the memories of this troll but affection would swell in their mind as he brought the gift to their grinning face.

They cooed, their pupil would contract and dilate, taking up most of their iris as they examined the gift. Soft rumbles like deep purrs would escape their throat as they unwrapped the bundle with a surgeon's precision, collecting the items from the hand-woven basket into slender palms, their neck creaking and cracking as they tilted their head to look into the forest, the gift giver would soon be visited.

The next time Avi finds himself in a little more secluded area with not as much foot traffic, he would find himself encountering a parcel wrapped in brown paper. Sitting in an alcove off the ground, yet someplace more eye-level, the object would have been rather unassuming if it's neck weren't tied off with a ribbon as a sprig of pine and tag dangled at its side.

Should he choose to investigate the thing, it's message would read as follows as a sweet and savoury scent lazily drifts into the air: To whomever finds this, this gift is for you. May it fill your belly and make you merry. Glücklich Hibernale Sonnenwende! [ @crystal-grotto ]

Avi caught sight of the package, indeed. His first thought was that it might be something dangerous. …or maybe it would have been if it were left in a more populated place. This looked like it had been left out of the way on purpose. He inched closer, taking note of the ribbon and pine sprig as he tilted his head around to read the tag.

Okay… so it was food? He could tell that it was at least edible from the good scents wafting from it (scents that made his stomach rumble). Sadly he couldn’t read German; he'd have to put it into a translator when he got home.

Still cautious, he nudged the package and waited for something that never happened before carefully picking it up and hurrying on his way.
