can you do like a dog by ferry ft nekomura iroha?
Absolutely! I love this song.
This song is being sung by the character Dr. Temnova from Ferry's series Parties are for Losers.
This song describes her views on science and really shows her apathy towards people through the lense of science.
The first stanza "Panic was never a factor / I looked into the maw of a burning reactor / And so my soul could soar with my heart on the altar of science / Like an obedient dog" Talks about her run in with a zone that caused her to either become immortal or just cause her to age slower, though I believe it to be the former because of how Ferry said she's "About fifty years older than she looks" implying that she stopped aging fifty years ago, which lines up in the timeline.
Also, describing science as an "Altar" on which her heart has been sacrificed really explains her mentality and her viewpoint on science as a whole, seeing experimentation as a sacrifice for the greater good.
This continues into the next line, "Pity is never a factor when mercy is a sign of a talentless actor," essentially saying that, in her field, empathy is a weakness and if you are not willing to give that up, then you won't make it in that path. The later line "A gear in the machine grew immune to corrosion" also supports this idea.
The next lines are being directed towards the character Dmitry, her most prized experiment. "And once you go beyond pure humanity's borders, you will come running back like a dog" the comparison of him (another human being) to a wounded dog that will 'come running back' to the facility the second the outside world realizes what he is, truly connects to her view of experimentation as being for the greater good and her lack of emotional empathy.
The end of this chorus section that says "Run back like a dog to Her" has two possible interpretations. One is related to the note in the description saying "The Russian noun for “zone” is of feminine gender," though I've always interpreted this more so as presenting the idea that Temnova IS the zone.
What I think is more likely is that she is saying that Dmitry will come running back to Katya since she has been captured and taken back to the facility, and Temnova believes that even if he's not coming back for her, he will come back for Katya, so she'll see him again regardless.
The final chorus states "And even if it takes you decades, I know that / You will come running / BACK LIKE A DOG, A WOUNDED DOG / TO ME." The line about it taking decades returns to the idea of her immortality. How long it takes for Dmitry to return matters not to her, because her perception of time is distorted, she knows it will happen at some point, and that gives a bit of a terrifying motherly quality to her.

লতা মঙ্গেশকার গেয়েছেন-
"Abhi na jao chhod kar!
ke dil abi bhara nahi"

I really love releasing an album because it feels so concrete and the future starts to feel so full of artistic possibilities. I was thinking maybe I would post track by track about the songs and get a bit personal.
This song is really meaningful to me because it feels like the moment I really became Lady Charles even though I had a whole first EP. I had the title in my head and became so obsessed with the idea of it being a personal theme song that I basically spent two weeks straight trying to actually come up with a 'worthy' song for it. I even wrote and demoed an entirely different and way worse Manic Pixie Dream Boy first and threw it in the trash.
I struggled with mental health issues that weren't validated when I was young and only really lately have I learned that the things I struggled with were disabilities and not just me being particularly bad at life. I think that plus having a very fluid identity pushed me to internalise the mystery I felt. Not sure if that makes sense but the song is partly romanticising mental illness in order to avoid succumbing to it, and while that sounds dark I actually think of it as very positive and defiant. Like yes, I am different, who wouldn't want to be different when society's idea of 'normal' is so goddamn toxic and inhibited, you know?
That's where it ties in with Manic Pixie Dream Girls - I really think there's a degree of patriarchal disrespect at the core of that archetype because of the fetishistic way the characters are denied the humanity of having an actual psychological reason for their behaviour. They're just 'quirky' nevermind that those quirks line up with adhd or bpd or what have you - those aren't important to the male writers. Yet I really ended up relating to them because I too was kind of encouraged to see myself as quirky and different without separating out the things that were actually pathological.
So while it's not really on me to reclaim it I do really think of it as a bit of turning that archetype around.
The song was released as a single in 2019 but I rerecorded the vocals and added live drums (courtesy of Francy Karema) along with it being remixed by Erin Tonkon and mastered by Sarah Register. I also brought back a low Orville Peck impression under the line about him that legitimately

“Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” by Taylor Swift
“Red Wine Supernova” by Chappell Roan
“Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter
“Blonde” by Maisie Peters
“Can’t Catch Me Now” by Olivia Rodrigo
@impossibelle @iwantavaldezinator @idfendyr @shadowhunters77 @archerons-elain @cheap-spirits @maevecrom @endlessdaydream @somethingsomewhereanywhere @korepio
p.s. as always, no pressure tags :-) 💕
(Heads up for some tags: this is my main account, the side-blog ur probably used to seeing (as I’m more active) is @acourtofquestions I have a terrible habit of mixing up pages/conversations; so if ur going “who tagged me?” it’s just me lol)

Send song suggestions!
I just made this blog and I'm looking for suggestions!!
I'd appreciate recommendations of smaller artists in particular because their songs are less likely to already have meanings explained on the internet! Songs in japanese/with japanese lyrics are alright as long as they are by english-speaking producers. Most examples of these I can think of either have official english versions or generally official translations so they're good in my book.
