Sometimes I get the feeling that people in this fandom don’t understand the meaning of an oath.
The Asoiaf world may be fantasy, but it is still based on real-life medieval setting.
In European medieval times, the values of the Church were held in high regard, and a person’s word actually meant something. When someone made a promise/an oath, especially a noble, it was expected of that person to honor it. Failure to do so resulted in dire consequences.
It’s not like it is now in modern 21st century, when everyone makes promises they end up breaking eventually and it’s like *shrug* “oh well, too bad” and no consequences follow.
So, when the Lords of the Realm swore oaths to uphold the ascension of Rhaenyra Targaryen on the Iron Throne, they were not at all “stale” or “meaningless”, as Otto Hightower tries to argue (that’s modern mentality and kind of poor writing on the part of the showrunners). It’s a pledge made in the name of a House.
And just because some of the Lords who swore those oaths died, that doesn’t mean that those oaths died with them (as the Lannisters, who have no honor whatsoever, try to argue). The oaths were made on behalf of Houses, not individuals, and therefore, the Houses as a whole were expected to respect them.
The reason Rhaenyra Targaryen had most of the Realm on her side is because the majority of Westerosi Houses understand the meaning of an oath. They also acknowledge that with the absence of an actual succession law, Rhaenyra Targaryen is the rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Political Jon and Sansa prompt: Jon’s aides think Sansa is bad news because she’s a journalist but he is obsessed with her
The grand French double doors to the office that resides at the end of the downstairs hallway of Stannis Baratheon’s summer home remained closed the last time Sam checked, just 12 minutes and 38 seconds ago. It’s something they’re all trying valiantly and failing miserably to be normal about.
“He really thinks we’re stupid.” Pyp grumbles by the window, disdainful.
“I don’t think he cares much about what we think,” puts in Grenn, just as irritable.
Edd doesn’t even look up from his laptop. “I don’t think he’s thinking at all.”
Sam is inclined to think the same, but he doesn’t say so. He isn’t like Edd, who never bites his tongue when situations are dire, even though his words are only likely to make everything worse. Even in the most typical of situations Sam has to scrounge his psyche for courage to say anything at all. Now, he chews on the blunt, near bleeding edge of his thumbnail, unease snaking through his stomach.
This situation is anything but typical.
Grenn snorts at that. “If he is, it’s with the wrong head.”
Pyp opens his mouth mid snort, probably to say something equally as crass before Davos interrupts thankfully interrupts them.
“She has her own page on Google.” He stops mid stride near a bookcase, the perpetual pacer of the group. “I can’t decide whether that’s a bad thing or a good thing.”
On the campaign trail, when he ran smack into Sansa Stark leaving his boss’ room at five in the morning, he’d spent his breakfast pulling his hair out, poring over his phone because he’d decided it was unequivocally bad. Sansa Stark, American journalist. 27 years old. Born to the deceased Eddard and Catelyn Stark in Winterfell, Massachusetts as one of five heirs to a publishing empire with money so old that it was gray—
She was visible. Problem number one.
The fact that he noticed her—problem number two.
Pretty journalists aren’t supposed to exist—or rather, they do, they just don’t last for long. Because at the end of the day, they’re all the same. Running themselves ragged for the sake of the story, constantly pushing the envelope, drawing lines and erasing them. It’s taxing work, living like that. It isn’t for the vain. You might start out glossy, bright eyed, and bushy tailed, but you’ll end up the way everyone else does. Tired with rings underneath your eyes, nails bitten to the red, lips cracked, the prospect of a story being the only thing possible to slake your thirst.
His sister entertained the idea of becoming a reporter once, because that was how Oprah started before she got her own show. Until their mama cried in her honey soaked drawl, “Why would you ever wanna go and do that for?”
Sam couldn’t help but think the same thing the first time he saw Sansa Stark front row at the Cambridge Rally, press lanyard around her neck. Even though he didn’t know she was Sansa Stark at the time. And even when he did, he underestimated just how much of a problem she would become.
“Trust fund brat, practically New England royalty.” Davos surmises. “Did two years at Sarah Lawrence—”
Pyp winces.
“—graduated top of her class at Yale.” Davos rubs at his bald head. He looks like he’d pull out his hair if he had any. “She’d help him poll well. If it gets to that point.”
“Maybe it won’t.” Sam finally finds his voice, squeaking. “Maybe it’ll be out of his system by the time the election comes around.”
They all exchange uncertain looks.
They’ve never seen him like this before. His first marriage was before any of them met and it wasn’t something he spoke about. Any dalliances he had since then were well concealed, because Sam didn’t know of any. He just assumed there were none. The intensity in which he dedicated himself to his work made it seem like something so recreational as desire would be trivial to him. Beneath him.
They all know better now. They just don’t know how to move forward.
“And if it doesn’t?” Pyp asks. “I mean, if we lose, who cares? But if we win?”
Edd’s gaze moves back to his computer. “You mean if he’s actually stupid enough to continue fucking a rookie journalist through his first term and giving her a front row seat to every single thing that happens in our office?”
Pyp sighs at that, long suffering. “Yeah.”
Edd shrugs. “That’d probably be bad.”
“No shit—” he begins to sneer.
Underneath his gathering ire, there’s the sound of a door clicking open. Grenn unnecessarily and obnoxiously shushes everyone and Davos quickly finds his seat. Pyp picks up a folder and pretends to read it, though it’s upside down. Edd changes absolutely nothing. Footsteps make their way down the hall.
Sansa Stark appears, striding through the den where they are gathered. Her cheeks are pink, but her expression is otherwise blank. Her chin is held high.
“It was nice seeing you all again.” She says, voice cool in its formality.
“You too,” They all stammer out, to some effect.
There are more footsteps from down the hall, and now Jon is closing in behind her. Not nearly as aloof, with his jaw clenched and his neck all flushed.
In a tone just as professional, he says, “I’ll walk you out.”
“That isn’t necessary.” She bites out.
“I insist.” He practically sneers.
Stark’s upper lip curls like she’s fixing to sneer back before she remembers just how unladylike it is. She throws her shoulders back and storms out of the house, slamming the door shut behind her.
Jon throws it back open again before he does the same.
“What crawled up their ass and died?” Grenn asks.
Once again, Pyp snorts, opening his mouth before Davos cuts him off wearily, “Please. For the love of God, do not answer that.”
On the couch in front of the window, Sam has a perfect view of the cobblestone driveway. Their shabby looking cars all lined up. A shiny looking silver Porsche dead last, but in way better shape than all of their cars combined. The sight of Stark storming towards the driver’s side before Jon grabs her by the wrist.
She all but explodes.
Stark looks like she could slap him. She looks like she’s itching to, but instead, opts for yelling at him in his face, jabbing her manicured pointer finger into his broad chest.
Jeez.
“What do you think they're fighting about?” Sam whispers to Edd, who’s watching right beside him.
“Whatever it is, she’s giving it to him.” Edd mutters.
“Let me see.” Pyp demands, clambering onto the couch beside them. A shift in the distribution of weight on the couch tells Sam that both Davos and Grenn have joined them too.
Stark appears to stop to catch her breath, hands falling to her sides again. She gives one last huff before she opens the door only for Jon to shut it close again.
When she turns back around to give him yet another piece of her mind he stops her short by covering her mouth with his.
Stark stands there for a moment, just letting it happen. Her hands ball into fists at her sides, like she’s fighting with herself. Then her hands come up to press against his back, pressing his body closer into hers as it starts to relax slightly.
“Nevermind.” Edd mumbles, as Grenn lets loose a low whistle.
Sam knows he should look away, but every time he’s about to, he convinces himself that it’s gonna end any moment now. But it just—doesn’t. It keeps going and going. Jon’s hands dip lower and they have to be on her ass, but he can’t make any confirmations at this angle. But her hands, those are definitely in her hair. And he’s definitely pressing her up against her car.
“They aren’t gonna—” Pyp breaks off. “I mean they’re outside.” Then, at the flash of tongue. “They’re outside.”
“Jesus.” Grenn curses.
“This will not poll well.” Davos says, sounding like he’s on the verge of a breakdown.
Jon’s mouth finally leaves hers—perhaps because they both finally needed air—just to find her neck. Stark’s head falls to the side to grant him more access as her eyes roll back and flutter shut. Then they open again.
Staring right at the window.
Everyone dives for the floor, even Edd.
“Shit, shit, shit.” Grenn is cursing, while Pyp is repeating, “Did she see us?” over and over again. Edd is face palming himself with his own laptop and Davos is pacing again, saying, “I had no part in this.” Sam can taste terror on the tip of his tongue and shame at the back of his throat—
The door opens.
Everyone scrambles to resume their places again, though they know the jig is far from up.
The door clicks shut. There’s footsteps. Not long afterward, Jon enters the room. His footsteps stop, and there’s no noise for a long time, save for their breathing.
Sam dares to look up.
Jon is still by the entryway, staring off into space. Mouth swollen, almost a little dazed. Then he just sighs before shaking his head, as if trying to regain his focus.
When he does, he finds all of them staring at him.
“Get back to work.”  He barks.
They all straighten, stammering out some form of “Yes sir,” and he stalks out the room, back to the office. The door slams shut. Sam doesn’t have the courage to remind him that before a certain someone showed up, they were doing a mock interview.
Edd is the first one to speak. As always, he never hesitates to make a bad situation worse.
“Safe to say she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”
Grenn groans and Pyp faceplants into the couch and Davos starts pacing all over again and Sam—well, he just agrees.
“Definitely not.” He says.

George RR Martin: dragons are weapons of mass destruction, they're symbols of destruction and not of rebuilding, it's why the targaryens lost their power because their rule was built on fear and when the dragons died it only took a small spark to cause a rebellion, daenerys should read fire and blood so she can learn how not to use dragons daenerys herself: dragons plant no trees, If they are monsters than so am I Yall: i cant read suddenly i dont know
LMAO! I can’t even call that paraphrasing since this jumble of out of context gibberish completely misinterprets GRRM’s words and intent.
First off, no one said dragons weren’t weapons of mass destruction. Them being powerful weapons is pretty obvious. Them being weapons does not erase the violence and cruelty of characters who do not have them. The mass destruction the Starks and Lannisters have wrought against the Riverlands and Westerlands was done without the aid of dragons. So was the mass destruction the Greyjoys and Boltons wrought on the North. The Tyrells were able to commit mass murder by cutting off food supplies, which led to mass starvation, which was their specific intent.
Dragons are dangerous. Obviously. So are people, as George R. R. Martin goes out of his way to tell us in every chapter of his work. The man literally depicts Robb, Stannis, Balon, and Joffrey as equally as violent toward the common people and the land of Westeros. He even gives Dany this metaphoric image of the four of them:
“In one room, a beautiful woman sprawled naked on the floor while four little men crawled over her. They had rattish pointed faces and tiny pink hands, like the servitor who had brought her the glass of shade. One was pumping between her thighs. Another savaged her breasts, worrying at the nipples with his wet red mouth, tearing and chewing.” -- A Clash Of Kings
And that is far from the only time he frames them in an equally negative light given their level of mass destruction.
when the dragons died it only took a small spark to cause a rebellion, daenerys should read fire and blood so she can learn how not to use dragons
You think Dany should read Fire and Blood? I agree. I hope she gets a copy once she arrives to save Westeros from the warlords, opportunistic politicians, and the Others. Though you should probably try to find someone who can read it to you and explain what all the big words mean. If you look in that book, you will see that the Targaryens became extremely popular and loved. They decreased the amount of war and destruction, they streamlined the laws, they established roads, and they removed a couple of the abuses that were the norm. They were far from perfect. But in that imperfection, Dany could learn from them too.
As for a “small spark” causing a rebellion as soon as they didn’t have dragons... *sighs* If you don’t know about a topic, that’s fine. Not everyone can be an expert on every topic. But you Sansa stans (yes I know you’re a Sansa stan and you probably have that hideous image of ST with her trademark vacant expression and that ugly ferret crown as your icon) should actually fact check yourselves before trying and failing to present yourselves as an authority on anything. The last dragon died in 153 AC. The Targaryens were overthrown in 283 AC. Even before 153 AC, the dragons that lived either weren’t under their control, were pretty young, or were deformed. In other words, they continued to rule Westeros without dragons for a significant amount of time. In that time, not only did they rule, but they were able to bring Dorne into the realm peacefully.
Even the wars they had were far fewer than the amount of constant wars that happened while the kingdoms were separate. The Blackfyre Rebellions were sparked by Westerosi racism and xenophobia against the Dornish, as well as the greed and opportunism from the Andal/First Men supporters of the Blackfyre claimant. Notice how in those rebellions the people of Westeros supported either the Targaryens or the Targaryen blooded Blackfyres? No matter which side the lords took, they were supporting a Targaryen because they support that family. Like in real life civil wars, they just supported different members of that same royal line. It wasn’t because they feared them. They wanted their rule. They just wanted the rule of a specific claimant over another based on their own values or what they thought they could gain from a change in Targaryen leadership.
Even with the Baratheon rebellions, they were still Targaryen blooded claimants. With Lyonel Baratheon, he felt his family was insulted when an engagement between the crown prince and his daughter was broken so the prince could marry a peasant. This might seem like a “small spark”, but this would have been considered hugely offensive by the classist nobility. Note how this rebellion was resolved incredibly easily to the point where I don’t even think it warrants being labeled an actual rebellion. It seems more like it was set up for the next Baratheon rebellion since it resulted in that House gaining even more Targaryen blood than it already had. That’s the thing, the nobility wanted their children to marry Targaryens. Doesn’t sound very fearful, does it?
Robert’s Rebellion wasn’t set off by a “small spark”. The kidnapping and rape of the Lord of Winterfell’s daughter and the betrothed of the Lord of Storm’s End is not insignificant. It also didn’t set off the rebellion. The murders of multiple lords and their heirs is also not a small thing. It didn’t set off the rebellion either. What set it off was the combination of those two events with the demand for the executions of the new Lord of Winterfell and the Lord of Storm’s End. Those events taken separately are not small sparks and they certainly aren’t small when put together. It took something HUGE to make a big part of the realm turn on the Targaryens. Even still, the rebels were in the minority since most of the other regions either stayed out of the conflict waiting to see how it played out or stayed loyal to the Targaryens. If Tywin had continued to stay out of the conflict, the Rebellion could have lasted indefinitely with either side winning since the Crown’s forces outnumbered them and occupied the Stormlands.
You also seem to miss the fact that quite a few people in Westeros are still Targaryen Loyalists and want to restore them to the throne. You even miss the fact that Robert, Joffrey, and Tommen’s claim comes from their Targaryen blood.
So no, the Targaryen rule was not based purely on fear. They clearly retained loyalty and love without the benefit of dragons as weapons.
daenerys herself: dragons plant no trees, If they are monsters than so am I
It’s funny how you can try to quote the book while having no understanding of the passage you’re quoting. Here’s the paragraph you’re referring to:
Mother of dragons, Daenerys thought.Mother of monsters. What have I unleashed upon the world? A queen I am, but my throne is made of burned bones, and it rests on quicksand. Without dragons, how could she hope to hold Meereen, much less win back Westeros?I am the blood of the dragon, she thought. If they are monsters, so am I. -- ADWD
This takes place in Dany’s second chapter of A Dance With Dragons after she has captured and chained two of her dragons and failed to capture the third. Why is she trying to chain them? Because Drogon killed one (1) child. That’s right. Not only is Dany compensating the people for the sheep her dragons were eating. She has no tolerance for them killing innocents. The quote above is not her glorying in the destructive power of the dragons. Nor is she going around without an ounce of guilt for terrorizing, maiming, and murdering innocents the way Robb, Balon, Stannis, Joffrey, Tyrion, Cersei, and every other leader in Westeros does. That is what this passage is PROVING. Seriously, using the “If they are monsters, so am I” quote is proving that Dany has guilt over the life her dragon has taken and that she has taken steps to prevent that from happening again. Compare that to Tyrion’s complete lack of care when it comes to the mass murder his family is causing:
"A lordling down from the Trident, says your father's men burned his keep, raped his wife, and killed all his peasants."
"I believe they call that war." -- Tyrion, ACOK
While Dany is trying to preserve lives, the mass murdering leaders of Westeros see murder and rape as the norm and completely acceptable. Even the noble Robb Stark tried to move the carnage that he and Tywin were inflicting on the Riverlands into the Westerlands and was upset that his plan to do so was partly thwarted by Edmure. His issue wasn’t with the common people suffering and dying. He just wanted the suffering and dying to happen to the common people of the Westerlands (the ones who hadn’t been forced into service as arrow fodder by the Lannisters yet) instead. Yet, you’re trying to use Dany’s guilt at one (1) child being killed by her dragon as proof of...something?
As for Dany not planting trees, yes, she fears that’s something Targaryens can’t do. But the text shows that her ancestors could and did. Dany is also planting trees in ADWD and was in the process of making Vaes Tolorro bloom in ACOK before she was invited to Qarth. The Golden Company (who wants to put her and Aegon on the Iron Throne as a pair) are even upset because they think she’s only interested in planting trees in Meereen.
When analyzing a literary work you have to understand that what the characters fear and the guilt they feel are not signs of their permanent situations. They’re signs of their internal obstacles that will be overcome in their arcs. Dany fears her dragons and fears herself and fears that she won’t be able to achieve peace and positive societal growth. Its good that she fears these things because this shows she acknowledges these issues so they can be overcome. The current Westeros leadership don’t see the issue in their mass murdering, which is an issue all on it’s own.
Its alright if this series is above your comprehension level. There are books out there for you to read that are better suited for your capabilities, like Hop on Pop or Green Eggs and Ham. It’s probably best if you stick to those.

A Song of Ice and Fire "Champions" (Theory)
Tumblr media
Hello everone, i want to share my own theory about long night and it's champions. It’s about Arya and Dany.
First, I'm sorry for my poor English, i helped from google translate, hope you can understand what i mean.
Introduction
The legend of the Long Night and AA has been discussed many times, but I want to approach it from a different topic. As you know, there are two fundamental forces in the universe of asoiaf, and we are reading the war of these two forces; ice and fire.
Power representing the ice side; It's called the Great Other. He is the god of death, of terror, of night. The Spirit of Ice.
Power representing the fire side; It's called R'hllor. He is the god of light, of life, of fire.
"...The war has been waged since time began, and before it is done, all men must choose where they will stand. On one side is R'hllor, the Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, the God of Flame and Shadow. Against him stands the Great Other whose name may not be spoken, the Lord of Darkness, the Soul of Ice, the God of Night and Terror. Ours is not a choice between Baratheon and Lannister, between Greyjoy and Stark. It is death we choose, or life. Darkness, or light." Melisandre
And this...
"The way the world is made. The truth is all around you, plain to behold. The night is dark and full of terrors, the day bright and beautiful and full of hope. One is black, the other white. There is ice and there is fire. Hate and love. Bitter and sweet. Male and female. Pain and pleasure. Winter and summer. Evil and good." She took a step toward him. "Death and life. Everywhere, opposites. Everywhere, the war." Melisandre
Of cource from Melisandre's perspective "Great Other... dead... is pure evil" But if we could ask it to ice side, they will said same thing for fire side, yeah? So do not mind the words of good and evil. Just focus the sides... I always say "the war between ice and fire" is like same as Stark and Lannister war. We saw both sides did bad things(Arya POVs), and both sides had good reason for battle. Who can say Starks are pure good but Lannisters are pure evil? I'm a Stark fan and i cannot say this.
So let's return our battle. Ice side wants eternal winter and fire side wants eternal summer. Well, i can say both of this are not good something, this is not a balance. Imagine living in the heat of desert or cold waether of north pole. Just one season, nothing more. Wildings live in north and they doesn't want to live there because life is so hard in there.
Prophecies
And I know, AA sound like a hero but who knows this? Really, we should trust the prophecises? I do not think so.
GRRM: " Prophecies are, you know, a double edge sword. You have to handle them very carefully; I mean, they can add depth and interest to a book, but you don’t want to be too literal or too easy... "
and Marwyn
"Born amidst salt and smoke, beneath a bleeding star. I know the prophecy." Marwyn turned his head and spat a gob of red phlegm onto the floor. "Not that I would trust it. Gorghan of Old Ghis once wrote that a prophecy is like a treacherous woman. She takes your member in her mouth, and you moan with the pleasure of it and think, how sweet, how fine, how good this is . . . and then her teeth snap shut and your moans turn to screams. That is the nature of prophecy, said Gorghan. Prophecy will bite your prick off every time." He chewed a bit. "Still . . ."
and Tyrion
"Prophecy is like a half-trained mule," he complained to Jorah Mormont. "It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head."
So guys, do not trust prophecy so much. :)
It doesn't mean AA is evil, forget evil word or good, ok? Both sides want to win this war this why they need a campion, and this champions are hero for their sides, that's all. Yeah but not for everyone, special not for common folk. You know, always common folk gets hurt in somebody's war.
Also AA prophecy comes from Asshai, a hero, a savior... That place so close to Yi Ti, Dawn Empire. Who caused the Long Night? Blood Stone Emperor. The Long Night was a punishmed for them(Dawn people and their emperor)which it was sent by Night's Lion. Some kind of revenge(ice is revenge). Who was Night's Lion? God of Night, God of Dead! So this why AA is against to ice, Great Other(Night's Lion).
But at Westeros, there is no AA or savior, a hero against Great Other... Yeah, there is a Last Hero, true but his story and mission are little different from aa's story.
According to Asshai, AA finished the Long Night but according to North, Last Hero found Childiren of Forest and get put together them and Night's Watch and First Men and fought against Others and won somehow.
The Champions
Actually, I want to focus on this word. R’hllor's warrior is also known as the “champion"
In the ASOIAF universe, in battles, sometimes there are champions both sides. They fight each other for win, In this way, sometimes armies do not have to fight... You need a champion if you want a trial by combat at Westeros. Of course, the other side has a champion too. Of your champion wins, you survive.
In summary, if there is a champion, it has to be valid for both sides.
Champions of Ice and Fire
Is there champion of ice? Well at least, we know Melisandre think so.
But beyond the Wall, the enemy grows stronger, and should he win the dawn will never come again. She wondered if it had been his face that she had seen, staring out at her from the flames. No. Surely not. His visage would be more frightening than that, cold and black and too terrible for any man to gaze upon and live. The wooden man she had glimpsed, though, and the boy with the wolf's face … they were his servants, surely … his champions, as Stannis was hers.
We might think that the ice side will have a champion. Like fire side.
Well we assume fire side's champion is Dany. Yeah, some people thinks Jon is AA but AA must be full fire but he is ice and fire by his parents. Dany suits more than him and looks she fulfilled the prophecy.
Also i belive Jon is a balance; he is ice and fire; dark and light; dead and life. First Dawn Emperor was son of Maiden of Light(fire) and Night's Lion(ice) and in his reign there was wealth and peace. Why? Because he was half ice, half fire; half light, half night; half dead, hald life... He was balance. If you realize Jon also dead now and when he comes back he will literally be dead and life, a ghost, neither literally dead nor alive, but both. There is a darkness inside him (especially after resurrection) and also there is light. I belive you got it. :)
So ok, Jon is balance... Dany is AA... then who is Ice's champion?
R'hllor's champion was full fire. Great Other's champion must be full ice? A Stark. A First Men, Daughter of North. Someone who smells death. Someone serving the god of death. Arya Stark.
She says the names of the people she wants to die in her prayer. Death accepts it. Why is that? Because she is messenger of dead, champion of Great Other.
Women are in a strong position in this book. Usually we are used to seeing men in the foreground in everything. That's why we're waiting for the hero or anything like that to turn out to be men. But not in this book. 5000 years ago, The Others's leader(or something like that) was a women; Night's Queen. We do not know what was it but she had a plan and used for this a NW member, Lord Commander, probably a Stark. Night's King.
If AA ise Dany, then it makes sense that Great Other's champion is a woman. It would be fun to watch two women's war. Dragon Queen and Wolf Queen, ice and fire. Also Arya's skills for what? Just for kill her list? No! He is one of the big five of GRRM. Like the other four, she should have a big impact on this war.
“If a twelve-year old has to conquer the world, then so be it.”
I believe FM is connected Great Other. God of Dead is Great Other. And Arya with them. Jaqen was around Arya and lead her to FM. Why? Too young to be FM. The Kind Man said her training would take years. But she's only been there for a few months, but she took a face. They taught her. They know exactly what she wants, but they keep her with them. They're giving her an accelerated course.
Ghost of High Heart saw what was inside her and her future
The dwarf woman studied her with dim red eyes. "I see you," she whispered. "I see you, wolf child. Blood child. I thought it was the lord who smelled of death . . ." She began to sob, her little body shaking. "You are cruel to come to my hill, cruel. I gorged on grief at Summerhall, I need none of yours. Begone from here, dark heart. Begone!"
Arya hears some whisper. Sounds like someone's talking to him.
Calm as still water, a small voice whispered in her ear. Arya was so startled she almost dropped her bundle. She looked around wildly, but there was no one in the stable but her, and the horses, and the dead men. Quiet as a shadow, she heard. Was it her own voice, or Syrio's? She could not tell, yet somehow it calmed her fears.
And this.
"But there is no pack," she whispered to the weirwood. Bran and Rickon were dead, the Lannisters had Sansa, Jon had gone to the Wall. "I'm not even me now, I'm Nan." "You are Arya of Winterfell, daughter of the north. You told me you could be strong. You have the wolf blood in you." “Wolf blood,” Arya now remembered.
So what do you think?

asoiaf meme
i was tagged by @incurablescribbler thanks! ♡
1. What do you think the dynamic between Tywin, Joanna and Aerys actually was?
we know that tywin and aerys were friends as growing up. i think that aerys inviting tywin to serve as hand was the beginning of the end of their relationship. aerys started to become jealous of tywin’s reputation. i also think he took jaime into the kingsguard to robb tywin of his true heir, and things only worsened since then. as for joanna, i don’t think she was in a willing affair with aerys, as some people speculate and i hate the rape theories, to me those theories only exist so fan fave tyrion can have special targ blood™. i don’t know what the dynamic between joanna and aerys exactly was though.
2. An AU scenario you desperately wanted to happen?
i wanted the queenmaker plot to succeed when i was reading it for the first time, but thinking of it now perhaps it wouldn’t go as planned. i also wanted elia and the kids to turn out safe somehow.
3. An arc you wish had gone differently.
catelyn’s. i wish she wasn’t at the red wedding and therefore stayed alive as catelyn rather than lady stoneheart, plus we would still have her as a pov. i still like the lady stoneheart story though.
4. One favourite character from each House, and why?
• house martell - arianne, i love how she doesn’t accept being set aside and fight for her rights, her dynamics with her family and her confidence.
• house lannister - jaime, his story is one of my favorites in the books. i don’t think he’s on a full redemption arc, he surely has changed but it’s more like we start to get to see his point of view and inner thoughts. his conflicts were a joy to explore, and he is one of the most complex characters of the series.
• house stark - sansa, i love how she still remains faithful in the world despite what she’s going through. most of us(including myself) would lose hope if we have gone through even half of what she has gone through, but she chooses to see the beauty of the world.
• house tully - catelyn, i wish we got more of her as a pov. she was one of the most well written and realistic characters. i can’t stand the negativity towards her just because she wasn’t kissing jon’s feet.
• house targaryen - rhaella, so little is known about her, but i already find her interesting. i believe we can say she was kind and warmhearted, considering she embraced rhaenys when aerys humiliated her. she would have a good relationship with her grandchildren had they stayed alive.
• house baratheon - shireen, i will start killing things if her fate turns out to be like in the show. she’s already seeing disappointment from her mother and from time to time her father, and being sacrificed by them would be the last straw. i liked her relationship with davos and stannis so far, she deserves some happiness and peace. i have a feeling that her greyscale will be important in twow.
• house tyrell - margaery, i like her; she’s intelligent and ambitious. i believe she is trying to make the best out of the situation her father put her in. she surely isn’t as innocent and altruistic as sansa sees her, but she’s not how cersei views her either.
5. The one part of your favourite characters arc (past or present) that hurts you a lot?
elia and her children’s fate hurts me a lot. i’m very defensive over them, no woman or child deserves this, no matter what kind of a person they might be.
6. Which of the pre-AGoT ladies are you most fascinated with? Why?
elia martell. i know we have only like two sentences about her and know so little of her, but i’m very protective over her. the way she is set aside both in asoiaf and in fandom hurts me.
7. An otherwise good character that you have a pet peeve with. What is that pet peeve?
i like olenna tyrell, but i can’t stand her homophobic and racist comments.
8. The worst thing your favourite character has done? Why do you think he/she did that?
for jaime, it is pushing bran and being ready to kill arya. i don’t think he had enough time before pushing bran to chew on what might happen afterwards. i think it was a basic instinct that the boy should be silenced. killing arya was what cersei wanted, she asked of him to do so because of what arya has done to joffrey, though that doesn’t excuse jaime since he’s a grown man and should take responsibility for his actions.
9. If you had to change one event/arc pre-Robert’s Rebellion, what would it have been?
i would erase rhaegar and elia’s whole marriage, therefore at least some losses of robert’s rebellion could be avoided and elia would be safe at home with her family.
10. Your favourite line uttered or thought by any character?
it’s this one by jaime, “how much can a crown be worth, when a crow can dine upon a king?”. one of the best lines in the books and i think it is a defining quote of ‘a feast for crows’.
my questions:
1. which character do you identify with the most and why?
2. a character you have an unpopular opinion about, and what is that opinion?
3. a character you think is underrated/overrated and why?
4. a very popular theory treated as canon that you have your doubts or don’t like the idea of it?
5. something done on the show that you strongly wish turns out not to be book canon?
6. what would make you defend your least favorite character?
7. which are your favorite and least favorite houses and why?
8. a storyline or character you wish grrm has written differently?
9. your favorite dynamic between two characters? (romantic or not)
10. if there was to come out new prequels/sequels/spinoffs what would you like them to be about?
i’m tagging: @1nsaankahanhai-bkr @goldenbackhand @meliaandre @miladyhigh @rhaella @swainlake @trulilyblr @yvvaine @iknewyouwereswiftie @estatica-tm

Note
Ooooh could you do Jon/Aegon VI? Accidental/on purpose kidnapping, with lots of snogging as Daenerys rolls her eyes in the corner?
(Not such much kidnapping…but capture in battle still kindda of counts, also probably could have been a lot more snoggig but this is what the muse came up with and I ran with it, lol)When the Targaryen army landed, laying siege and declaring war, Westeros had not been prepared. The Stormlands and Dragonstone had been the first to fall. Stannis and Renly Baratheon had been unable to hold back the combined forces of the Dothraki, Unsullied and Golden Company. When the North had marched, Lord Stark riding to answer King Robert’s call, Jon had ridden with the men of Winterfell. He fought and killed, for King and Lord and home. He fought to protect the men fighting with him. He fought for his family. He earned the respect of the men he fought alongside. He earned their loyalty. So when what had been meant to be a simple scouting mission became a bloody skirmish, Jon, despite ordering the handful of men with him to flee, to leave him behind, they refused to obey. They stood and fought alongside him. Four of them fell, leaving only a young knight from the Vale to be captured alongside him. They were taken, chained like animals, before the leaders of the Targaryen forces, Queen Daenerys, her husband, the mountainous Khal Drogo, and the young King Aegon, thought killed along with his mother and sister during Robert’s Rebellion. Their fate was to be decided and when Drogo suggested they be killed as an example to their enemies, the knight from the Vale, barely a few years older than Jon himself, saved Jon’s life again.
“He’s Lord Eddard Stark’s son!” The young knight had declared.“He’s Lord Stark’s son! He’s worth more to you alive!”Jon’s life was spared because of that. Though his savior had not shared his fate.He spent barely two days in a cage before it became clear that at least one of the enemy seemed to like him. One of Daenerys’ dragons, the trio roughly the size of large hunting dogs, had seemed to decide it much preferred Jon’s company to that of its mistress. It had chewed through the wooden post of Jon’s cage, crawling in to drape itself over him. It had, naturally, surprised not only Jon but everyone else to find him that morning, slumbering beneath the watchful eye of the green and gold beast.Daenerys decided that because her dragon, Rhaegal he was called, had taken so well to Jon it meant he could be trusted and, though he was still guards by two Unsullied soldiers, he was no longer kept caged. He was free to walk the camp and go almost anywhere he wanted. He suspected there were those who would still rather see him dead but, between Daenerys’ declaration and the fact one of her dragons shadowed his every move, he was as safe as could be expected given his circumstances. The days quickly turned to weeks and, during those weeks, Jon saw things he would never have seen locked in that cage. He found that Aegon, for all that he was one of the army’s commanders, for all that he was called King, was still very much like Jon himself. The young Targaryen was searching, had been searching all his life, for his place in the world. He found Aegon was a quiet young man, thoughtful and observant, and, despite being the young King’s prisoner, his hostage, he found he quite enjoyed Aegon’s company. It was hard not to admire Aegon for trying to take back his family’s legacy. It was difficult not to like Aegon and it wasn’t long before the pair were what one would call friends.Aegon took to talking to Jon in the quiet nights, drawing the young hostage into his tent, hiding away with him to just talk and pretend, for a little while, that there wasn’t a war raging and that, any day, could mean the loss of what they both held dear. It was one of those nights, hidden away in Aegon’s tent, a bit of wine shared between them, that they shared their first kiss. Jon had felt unusually bold and had just leaned in to Aegon, pressing a soft, chaste kiss to the young King’s lips before hurriedly drawing away, frightened by what reaction he would receive. He had not expected Aegon to suddenly catch hold of him, fingers tangling in his hair to draw him back in and kiss him passionately.Their relationship changed after that. Aegon spent more and more time with Jon, touching or holding his hand or giving him a quick kiss before hurrying off to his waiting duties. Jon was slightly embarrassed by the more public displays of affection but he grew more and more comfortable the longer it went on.During a late dinner one evening with Aegon, Daenerys and Drogo however, that embarrassment returned with a vengeance.Aegon, thinking his aunt and her husband were distracted with talk of their baby, leaned over, kissing and mouthing over Jon’s neck, who squirmed, trying, and failing, to go unnoticed by the others. It wasn’t until Daenerys suddenly huffed, rolling her eyes, that Aegon lifted his head slightly, giving his aunt a questioning look.“You have a tent of your own you know,” she reminded, giving Aegon a look Jon had seen her give to bickering soldiers. A look that said she was not to be questioned. “And youth does not excuse this, but I’m sure Jon does not wish to be ravaged in front of my husband and myself.”Jon felt his cheeks heat, knew he was blushing, which only grew worse when Drogo laughed, a fully belly laugh of amusement, and Aegon muttered something in Valyrian that made Daenerys’ gaze narrow sharply for a moment before she again huffed and shook her head.“Go,” the young Queen said, waving her hand absently. “Before I decide Jon should be sent back to Lord Stark rather than kept here for the sake of your fragile emotions.”Jon couldn’t help but snicker even as Aegon tugged him to his feet and from Daenerys’ tent. He glanced back in time to see Daenerys smiling at him, giving him a wink, and he couldn’t help but smile back at her as the tent flap fell closed behind him.

Return to King’s Landing
Based on this request: Hi! Happy Sunday, could I request a fic where reader was Robert Baratheons sister. She's returned to be in Kings Landing during series 7 after being in Storms End for a while and Euron and Jamie both take a liking to her? She can pick any of them, I'll leave that to you!
Here you are!! I do not own Cersei, Euron or Jaime. They belong to George R.R.Martin.
Masterpost
Warnings: Mostly angst I’m afraid. A teeny tiny bit of fluff if you squint.
Pairings/Characters: Jaime Lannister x fem!Baratheon reader x Euron Greyjoy, brief mention of Cersei Lannister.
Tumblr media
You nervously chewed your lip as the Red Keep grew closer. It had been years since you were last here. Stannis had refused to let you set foot in King's Landing, not even for your brother Robert's funeral. Now, you were the only true Baratheon left and had the freedom to do what you wanted. And you knew that, right now, King's Landing was the safest place for you especially since you had no desire for the throne.
You pulled your horse to a stop an dismounted. Taking a breath to steady your nerves, you opened walked toward the throne room and let the guards open the doors. Cersei was seated on the Iron Throne and looked up in surprise when you entered the room. "Y/N?" You smiled up at her. "Your Grace. Or may I still call you sister?" you asked with a curtsy.
While it was true that you weren't overly fond of Cersei, she hadn't done anything to you personally that warranted your anger and you thought it best not to upset her, especially not when you were looking for safety. You looked up at Cersei and smiled before your eyes darted to the man next to her. "Ser Jaime?"
Jaime couldn't seem to tear his gaze away. How long had it been since he last saw you? Years, at least. In those years, you had grown into a lovely young woman, not just on the outside either. Jaime could see that you were still as kind, caring, and most importantly, tactful as you had been. Benefits of not living in King's Landing, Jaime guessed. "My lady," he greeted after a moment.
Cersei asked Jaime to escort you to a set of chambers. "Then we can talk in private, Y/N." You nodded and followed Jaime out of the throne room. "How have you been, Ser Jaime?" you asked. Jaime didn't answer at first. "I've been...well, my lady." You rolled your eyes. "Since when do you lie to me? Even as young as we were, I could tell when you were lying. You are clearly not well, but I hope that changes soon. And please, call me Y/N."
After you returned, Jaime found himself wanting to spend more time with you. He didn't expect that there would be another swooping in and trying to steal your affections. Jaime hated Euron Greyjoy probably more than he'd hated anyone before. But Euron had taken a shining a to you as well. Jaime only hoped that you would be able to see through Euron's false flattery.
You felt yourself flush at Euron's words. It wasn't often that people described you as beautiful, at least not to your face. But here Euron was, leaning in slightly and whispering to you how beautiful you were. You probably shouldn't have been as flattered as you were, but you couldn't help it. "You, Your Grace, are too much," you said with a giggle and Euron smiled. Actually, it was more of a smirk, but you chose to ignore that.
As you spent time with both of them, you realized just how different Jaime and Euron were. Euron was very vocal about his flirtations and what he wanted. The innuendos just seemed to fly right out of his mouth and he made it no secret that he wanted you in his bed. His words were laced with honey, meant to entice you into doing anything he wanted you to do and thinking it was your idea.
Jaime, on the other hand, was much more reserved in his advances. Sometimes, you couldn't tell if he was flirting or not. What you could tell was that he just wanted to spend time with you. That was something you appreciated. And Jaime, while he never outwardly flattered you, made you feel important in little ways. Both men had their unique and endearing qualities and both had their faults, just like you. You began to hope the day would never come where you'd have to choose between them.
Your hopes were dashed when you came upon the two of them fighting. You were out for a walk in the city and found them yelling at one another. It looked like it was about to come to blows. "What are you two doing?" you snapped, causing both of them to snap their eyes over to you and off each other. They merely stared at you for a second, their brains trying to catch up to what was happening. It was Euron who recovered first.
"My lady, forgive me. This man believes he has the right to your hand. I was simply trying to explain to him that you have no interest in him." You crossed your arms over your chest and arched a brow. "And who are you to say that? I can speak for myself, Euron." Euron began to protest and that was when Jaime had enough. He was seething.
"Well, Ser Jaime? What have you to say for yourself?" Jaime looked at you with wide eyes. "Y/N, I-I have no excuse for my behavior. I only wish to protect you from men like him. He doesn't care for you, based on the unsavory words coming from his mouth. He cares only for power and will do anything necessary to get it." You sighed. "That is the way most men in the world are, Jaime. I thank you for trying to protect my honor, but I don't need you to. Perhaps coming here was a mistake." You turned on your heel and headed back toward the Keep, ignoring their cries of protest.
You spent the rest of the day avoiding the two men. You needed time to think. What if neither of them really loved you? What if you were just a plaything to both of them and they were toying with your emotions? Maybe the best thing for you to do was to leave King's Landing and return home, if it was still standing anyway. You packed your things and headed for the stables.
"Where are you going?" Jaime's voice in the darkened corridor made you jump. "I'm going home. I cannot stand to be the reason two grown men are at each other's throats. Not when there's a war going on." You moved to push passed him, but he caught your arm with his flesh hand. "Please, don't go, Y/N." You shook your head sadly. "I have to. There's no reason for me to stay when it's going to rip the two men I care deeply for apart."
"Dammit, Y/N! There is a reason for you to stay!" You jumped a little at his sharp tone. He sighed and loosened his grip slightly. "I...don't say this easily, but I love you. I hoped that would be reason enough for you to stay. But, if you don't feel the same, I won't stand in your way with Euron. But please, whatever you choose, don't leave me without your presence."
You sniffled. "I'm sorry," you whispered, removing your arm from his grasp and running toward the stables. You fought back tears as you rode away from King's Landing for what was probably the last time.
(a/n: Sorry about the angst. That’s just where my mind took it.)

Something More
IMAGINE: Everyone knew that (Y/N) the youngest Baratheon and ‘enemy’ of Jaime Lannister, was the fairest lady in all of Westeros, she was expected to do traditional High Lady duties. What happens if she wants something more? And how does Jaime Lannister factor into it?
Tumblr media
[gif is not mine. loosely based on beauty and the beast.]
warnings: one swear word
words: 1796
‘There may be something there that wasn’t there before...’
She was known as the most beautiful Lady in all of Westeros, men flocked from across the seas to ask her hand in marriage -specifically asking her brother for her hand in marriage. Every time though, she rebutted claiming that she was not ready, or they would have just used her family name or her wealth. She wanted to escape, escape the life that she was given, of course she knew that she was being ungrateful. Being the sister to the King of Westeros wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but she wanted more. She wanted adventure, her heart thumping, the adrenaline rushing through her veins.
“I just don’t get why you will not agree to the courtship sister, he’s beyond a great match for you and for the family,” Stannis stated as they sat around the table. He placed a forkful of sausage into his mouth and chewed.
(Y/N) groaned and leaned back into her chair, “I want to be with someone who has passion dear brother, not some coward.”
“Don’t let Tywin hear that.”
She rolled her eyes and drank some wine from her goblet, “Oh please, Tywin cares for Lancel as much as I care for the kennelmaster.”
Stannis quietly laughed at the antics of his sister, “You better tell Robert that.” He looked at sister for a moment and noticed the uneasy look on her face. “Is anything the matter?”
(Y/N) hesitated, not wanting to tell her brother the truth but at the same time it’s been gnawing at her for a while. With a deep sigh she looked at her brother, “Do you think there’s more to this? More to wearing fancy dresses, escorting men to the ball, going to balls, being trained as a mere accessory to a man?”
Stannis sat quietly not knowing how to start the conversation. “Of course you’ve never had to deal with this, you’re a man. You get to fight, to have that adrenaline rushing through your veins. You get to travel and see the world!”
He was about to reply when the door to the hall opened and there strutted Jaime Lannister. “Ah, the stags are here already.”
(Y/N) scowled at his behaviour. “I mean we have to, unless we want the lions to be selfish and eat all of the food.”
Jaime walked to the table, making sure that he was behind (Y/N), leaning over he took a piece of fruit from a bowl in front of her. She would never admit it but she enjoyed the way that his body felt against hers, even if it was just for a short moment.
“You know princess, with that kind of behaviour it’s no wonder why you’re going to end up alone,” the words were meant to be cutting, and it would have been if it was the first time that he’s spoken it to her. Instead of feeling hurt she gave him a sardonic smile and accidentally elbowed him.
“Oh, I’m sorry did I hurt you?”
Jaime gave her a fake smile and moved towards his seat.
“You should know better than to provoke the lion,” Stannis berated her quietly. “He’s known as a beast (Y/N).”
“Am I supposed to be in fear of him Stannis?” (Y/N) looked towards her brother, placing her knife and fork on the plate.
They both looked at Jaime who was now looking at a maiden who was placing food on the table, sensing the looks from the Baratheon siblings he looked over and gave them a wink, then turned his sole focus on (Y/N) and smirked.
Stannis turned back to his sister whose focus was on Jaime. He watched intently as her eyes narrowed when Jaime placed his hands on the so-called wench. He didn’t like this, he didn’t like what this could be. Jaime Lannister and his sister were not a good sign, especially the way Jaime looked at his sister and disregarded the maiden when she stormed off from the table. Clenching his fist, he decided he needed to talk to his brothers.
“LANCEL LANNISTER?” (Y/N) bellowed into the room, her black hair flying around her face, her brown eyes lighting up with anger. She stopped at the table where Robert was seated at, papers scattered around the table and men sitting around him. “I DID NOT REALISE THAT I WAS SOME PROPERTY THAT COULD BE SOLD TO ANYONE!” The men looked at each other and discreetly got up and walked away, knowing that if they were there they would be collateral damage between the two Baratheon’s with the biggest tempers.
Robert merely leaned back into his chair, “We have to agreement that you need a man to take care of you sister.” He raised his goblet, “Plus you already know that Lancel was in the contracts.”
(Y/N) screwed up her nose, “You think I need a man to look after me?”
Her brother’s eyes widened, “No, of course not.” He rebutted.
“Then what is it?” She hissed, not noticing a certain blonde-haired Knightsguard watching with amusement.
“We need to fortify our allegiance with the Lannister family, they’re one of the strongest and wealthiest houses in Westeros,” Robert explained.
“Those aren’t your words Robert so don’t say them,” (Y/N) scowled at her brother. “Also you’re married to a Lannister if you didn’t notice!” She stalked up as close as she can to her brother, leaning on the table to do so, “Once again, I am not your property to be traded as you wish, other families can do that because they won’t say anything but you should know better. I will be married to a man when I choose to do so. I will not be one of those women who are forced into marriage when they are not ready nor do they love the person.” With a final glare at her brother she stormed off, slamming the door as she went.
(Y/N) paced back and forth, occasionally taking the time to look at the harbor and enjoying the ships and the ocean. “You know if anyone ever talked to a King like that their head will be on the pike.” She closed her eyes and took herself mentally to a place far away, far far away from where she stood. “But of course you can never shut your mouth can you?”
She finally opened her eyes to look at the man in front of her, his smirk firmly placed on his face, eyes glistening with amusement. “Do you have to be so…” (Y/N) pursed her lips trying to find the right word.
“Charming? Good looking? Dashing? Hung-like,” before he could finish his sentence he was cut off by her making a disgusted noise.
“So on all the time? Especially around me?” She always did wonder why it was only her that Jaime was so...Jaime like. The innuendos, the comments that can scathe a person’s ego if they didn’t brush it off.
Jaime hopped up and sat down on the balcony, “Because I enjoy the tormented look on your face.” He was quiet for a moment, a rare site to witness. “Lancel?”
(Y/N) groaned, “Don’t get me started. If my brothers can honestly think that they can just partner me with some blonde-haired coward.”
“He’s not a coward any more though,” Jaime interrupted. “Turned himself into a knight.” There was bitterness in his tone.
“He’s still a coward to me,” (Y/N) pointed out. “Always will be. He can hide behind that mask all of his life but we know better. He was the snivelling pathetic excuse of a man.”
Jaime let out a low whistle, “You don’t hold back do you?” (Y/N) laughed quietly, soon Jaime joined. It was a sight to behold, two so-called people who were barely friends laughing with no care in the world.
(Y/N) leaned against the balcony, holding her stomach, “I don’t want to marry him, everyone expects me though. Get married, bear his children and be the doting wife.” She bit her lip and furrowed her brows. “I want more than this life, more than dress nice, act nice, have sex with your husband but don’t get mad if he sleeps with other people.” (Y/N) let out a deep breath that she didn’t know she was holding. “I want to be able to dictate my life. It’s mine not anyone else’s.”
“You could always run away,” she looked at Jaime with an odd look on her face. It wasn’t one that she usually wore around him which ranged from scowls to disgust, this was mere curiosity.
“I think that can work if I’m not a princess,” (Y/N) reasoned out. Silence took the situation, (Y/N) looked over the harbor, while Jaime stared at her. “Am I so unwanted that the only person I can attract are men like Lancel?”
Jaime was taken aback by her comment. She was one of the most beautiful women he’s ever seen, a certain eye catcher for any men. “What are you talking about?”
“You must think of me as shallow but I want someone who wants me for more than my looks. There’s more to me than that.”
He was quiet for a moment, “I feel the same way.” (Y/N) arched a brow and he continued, “Everyone refers to me as this beast who enjoys nothing but killing and fucking whores.” Jaime hopped off the balcony and faced the view with her. “No one ever thinks of what else I am.”
“To be fair you never let anyone see any other side of you. I mean I’m probably the closest, I see the witty, rude side of you.” She winked at him and he chuckled.
Jaime fell silent, “No one ever wants to see that side of me. No one ever gives me that chance.” Again the silence took over the conversation. They were both thinking how did they get personal in such a short time.
“You’re not a beast Jaime,” the comment made his heart thump against his chest faster than ever before. “An arsehole sometimes but not a beast.” She reached for his hand and once she found it, she held it tightly and squeezed it. “If anyone dares to call you that to your face, or even a hint of rumour send them my way.”
Maybe it was the way she said his name with care for the first time, or the way her hand felt right against his, or actually willingly touched him without fear that they would be hit with his sword. There were too many factors, but what he did know was that he suddenly felt something for her that was definitely was not there before.

The Stag and The Bastard
IMAGINE: Being the younger sister of Robert, Stannis and Renly and meeting Jon Snow in the kitchens during the feast.
Tumblr media
[gif is not mine. creds to the owner. part of the poetry series, this time it’s based off lang leav’s ‘someone like you’.]
warnings: none
words: 2.0k +
‘Do you think there is the possibility of you and I? In this lifetime, is that too much to hope for?...’
She could feel the stares of the people as she walked into the hall, nevertheless she kept walking her chin held up high. (Y/N) knew why they were staring. Of course it was very uncommon for such a highborn lady to not wear dresses, but it was so trivial. She could hear Robert’s voice from the end of the hall, she could practically see Cersei rolling her eyes at her husband's behaviour.
“Sister!” She looked at her brother at the centre of the table, gesturing for her to hurry along and break her fast with them.
“Brother,” she greeted him when she was close enough. She walked past the Stark and the Baratheon children. She wasn’t older than them by any means, basically the same age as Robb but nonetheless she was royalty.
“Why are you dressed like a man?” Renly spoke, smirking when he saw his sister’s reaction.
“I’m going around Winterfell today to see what there is,” she looked around at the faces. Robert looked on with interest as well as Cersei, Stannis looked indifferent and Renly just looked amused. “As well as around the North.”
“Do you have an escort my lady?” Catelyn spoke from her far left. “We have plenty of escorts to show you around.”
(Y/N)’s gaze turned to Cat, she smiled softly and shook her head. “Thank you, but I already have an escort. A suitable one, one that I chose myself.”
“Who is it?”
“Jon Snow,” she could practically feel the anger radiate from Cat as soon as she said that name. (Y/N) smiled at her, this time with an all knowing smile, without another word she took her seat and sat beside Renly.
“You’re stirring things up sister,” Renly whispered softly.
“I’m not,” she responded. Renly gave her a knowing look. “Okay, maybe I am but I’m not intentionally doing it.”
“How did you even get to meet Jon Snow? How did you get him as the escort?”
“So many questions brother,” (Y/N) twirled her fork and looked at the table below them. She looked for the familiar black hair but knowing better. Of course he wasn’t at the table with them. He was probably alone outside, or maybe he was inside a barn? Or in the kitchens, much like he was last night.
The clanging sounds of pots and pans echoed across the narrow hall where (Y/N) walked, she could see the faint light of the kitchens. A booming laugh echoed across the hall, knowing that it came from her over joyous brother from the feast behind her.
“Your Highness?” A servant stood before, curtsying. “Is something the matter?”
(Y/N) softly smiled, “No.” She pointed to the room where the light was coming from, “Is this the kitchens?”
“Yes my lady,” (Y/N) nodded ending the conversation. The servant curtsied again and hurried off.
(Y/N) walked towards the kitchen, she could hear the conversations that were being held. She heard her name being mentioned, with quiet movements she moved to the alcove just before it.
“I’m telling you Myl, that girl is no Highborn woman, nor a Princess,” a woman with a gruff voice sounded. “The way that she holds herself, she’s more interested in cajoling with the men and knights than being properly trained as a royal. I hear that she’s the black sheep in that family.” (Y/N) could imagine the tittering imbeciles edging in closer trying to catch up on the latest gossip while they make the food.
(Y/N) clenched her fist together, she’s heard this over the years of course. She preferred to be in the company of men as she wanted to fight, not what everyone else seem to think so. She’s heard the whispers, the rumours from servants to noble people alike. But she was never the black sheep of the family. When she said that she would rather fight and train with the soldiers, her brothers had reservations it wasn’t until Jaime Lannister came to her aid and supported her. From then on she’s become one of the fiercest and merciless fighters of Westeros.
“That’s why she’s called the Iron Princess,” another voice joined in. “She has no mercy. No sympathy, she’s more like a Lannister than a Baratheon. She’s a whore too I hear.” There was more that the woman was going to say but she was interrupted when a voice yelled out ‘enough’.
“You mustn’t say things like that,” she’s heard that voice before. Earlier in the day. “She’s different aye, but that does not matter. If she hears you saying things like this then we’ll see if she has mercy or not.” She could hear the sounds of his shoes as he walked around the room. “Even then if rumours are circulated around it won’t be just her who would be spiteful, it will be her brothers and the Lannisters, even my father.”
It was true of course, what he just said. She was loved by her brothers, and she was loved by the Lannisters. Tywin practically raised her when her father died.
“Be careful what you say around here. Now go on, I think it’s the next course you wouldn’t want them to be waiting now do you?” She could hear all of their feet move across the floor, she burrowed herself to the wall when they passed, strangely enough they were all quiet.
“Thank you for that,” (Y/N) said softly as she walked into the kitchens. She saw Jon jump a little bit and held in her laugh. She watched as he turned around almost tripping over his own feet.
“Your Highness,” he bowed.
“(Y/N).”
“I beg your pardon?”
She walked towards him, “I don’t like titles. We’re all the same when we’re buried in the ground,” she shrugged. “Although dead kings garner more respect and admiration than actual living people.”
“I’m sorry for what they said. They hear rumours and they speculate.”
She shrugged, “I’ve heard far worse from far worse people Jon Snow, no worries.” (Y/N) walked along the bench, scrunching her nose up at the various smells and dirtiness of the kitchen. “Some rumours do tend to stem from the truth,” he looked at her, his dark eyes following her every move. She looked at him and smirked, “Some rumours. Not all though.”
Jon cleared his throat, not believing that (Y/N) Baratheon the most sought out person in all of the Seven Kingdoms was here with him, the bastard of Winterfell. “How does one weave out the lies and find the truth?”
She tapped her lip with her finger and thought for a moment. “If they know you well enough, love you or care for you, they know.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, why are you here with me?”
(Y/N) stared at him, “I didn’t want to be here with you.”
Jon looked down, she sighed, “I meant that I come to the kitchens sometimes so I can be alone and eat,” she grinned at him. “The company that I have right now is an added bonus. The good kind.”
“But I’m a bastard, the bastard,” Jon emphasized. He knew that he was treated far worse than the usual bastards because he was Ned Stark’s.
“And?” She sat down at one of the stools and gestured for him to do the same. “I don’t care if you’re a bastard, Ned Stark’s or not. I told you, I hate figurative titles.” (Y/N) looked at the plate of pies, took it and passed one to Jon. “Now to lighter topics, what is there to see about the dreary and grey North?”
“I could show you tomorrow, if you’d like.” Jon offered as gratefully took the pie from her.
(Y/N) chewed her pie slowly and stared at Jon, enjoying making him squirm as he waits for her answer. Finally she swallowed the piece and poured herself some wine. “I think I’ll take you up on that offer Jon Snow,” she said before she sipped the wine.
‘There is something so delicate about this time, so fragile. And if nothing ever comes of it, at least I have known this feeling, this wonderful sense of optimism...’
“Sister?” Renly gently nudged her with his elbow. She shook herself out of her thoughts and looked at her brother. “You were far away all of a sudden.”
She smiled cordially at him, “Just remembering dear brother, no need to worry.”
Renly huffed, “I wasn’t worried. I just thought you were going insane.”
(Y/N) took another forkful of sausage in her mouth, took her napkin and gently dabbed away the grease. She looked towards the entrance of the hall and saw that Jon appeared. He seemed hesitant to walk towards her but she nodded at him and started walking. (Y/N) stood up, her chair scraping across the floors as she walked down the steps to greet Jon.
“What are you doing here?” Cat looked at Jon, disdain still in her eyes and her voice.
Jon looked at (Y/N) then at Cately, then at the rest of the table. Each pair of eyes now directed at him. “I invited him.” He heard (Y/N)’s voice coming from his right and he smiled at her. “He’s my guest.”
(Y/N) stood next to Jon, linking her arms with him. She looked at his face and smiled, then turned to the table and arched a brow, silently asking if they had any objections.
“A bastar-,” Cately’s words were taken from her mouth as Robert laughed.
“The more the merrier!” He knew that if Catelyn finished her words, his sister’s temper would flare up and as amusing it would be he still liked Catelyn, and it would cause some tension if his sister accidentally hurt her.
“Come Jon,” she led him to sit next to her. “Break your fast then you show me what the North has to offer.” Jon could feel the stares of everyone as he sat down. He smiled meekly at Robb and Arya who were staring at him unflinchingly.
‘...It is something I can always keep close to me -to draw from in my darkest hour like a ray of unspent sunshine...’
As he prepared the saddles for the horses, Jon felt a presence behind him, he turned around and saw that it was Jaime Lannister, in his golden glory. “I don’t know what you’re doing with (Y/N), but if you harm her in anyway I’ll be forced to kill you in her honour.” Jaime passed the bag that Jon needed. “And it won’t just be my wrath that you have to watch out for.” He nodded towards Tywin who was conversing with Littlefinger and Ned on the other side of the courtyard.
Jon nodded and swallowed the nervousness that he was feeling. He knew that (Y/N) was one of the most beloved people in Westeros and if he certainly did hurt her then nothing could ever save him, not even all of the Gods.
He watched as (Y/N) came out of the castle, still in her outfit from the morning, her dark hair flowing behind her. He spotted the Queen walking beside her and watched as they conversed quietly.
“Be careful (Y/N), the North is harsh and unforgiving.”
“Much like the Lannisters, Cersei, I will be fine.” She hugged her goodsister and bid her farewell. (Y/N) walked towards Jon as he held the two reins, passing one to her. “Are you ready Jon?”
He nodded and waited for her to saddle up, then joined her. Jon looked back at the courtyard, he could feel their stares, waiting for him to mess up but alas he did not. He looked at Cersei, her eyes never leaving his, he nodded at her hoping that he received the message that he will not hurt her and no harm will come to her. She nodded and walked towards her father.
Jon looked at (Y/N) who was now staring at him with curious eyes, “Don’t worry Jon, I’ll make sure I won’t fall off my horse so they won’t kill you.” She gave a hearty laugh one that usually comes from Robert. He gave her a small smile. Sensing the hesitancy and nervousness, she trotted her horse towards him. “I’m too interested in you Jon Snow, to ever let any harm come to you.”
This time he smiled at her genuinely. “Now let’s go, I can’t wait to see the different shades of grey I can find in the North!” He watched as she trotted her horse to the gates. Jon looked back at everyone, this time their stares more warm than before but still cautious.
As he rode alongside (Y/N), her words filling the cold air, he couldn’t help but feel right and complete. Even if he was a bastard, he can damn well show her how much of a man he could be.
‘...No matter what happens next, I will always be glad to know there is someone like you in the world.’
