there really isn’t a deep dive i can do into irving x tozer because they don’t share a single scene together BUT the whole telescope thing?? insane. in the book jirv’s telescope is his prized possession, i think an uncle gave it to him or something? but it gets set up as this very precious item to him which of course then really underlies the significance of him giving it to the netsilik family after they feed him (which also enunciates how precious of a gift the seal meat was to jirv in that moment but i digress)- my point is that this knowledge along with the vibe we get that jirv isn’t particularly well liked on terror and doesn’t have a ton of friends just makes him letting sol borrow his telescope all the more significant to me. and since jirv has it back later in the story we know that at some point sol sought him out to give it back?? like how much time were they spending together to have that kind of rapport? i just wonder what they had *sighs dreamily*

literally nothing to suggest it in canon but i love the idea of tozer making exactly one (1) exception in his haterdom and it's for third lieutenant john irving. john doesn't understand it either.
