solok being petty pt.1
I re-watched this episode recently and got curious. So I went on here and ao3 only to find out that there are a lot of fics of this obscure character.
Good to know we all had the same vision. Keep up the good work 🫡
Love that we all saw this man (who only appears in this episode and never again in the series) and collectively went: "what if i fixed him/made him worse"
p.s. i'm not that good at editing stuff like this, but someone had to do it

Solok has a strange way of showing you affection.
He doesn't hold you to the ridiculously high standards that he used to.
However, he does like to use you as a way to show off.
You are immediately assigned to the bridge crew the moment your transfer paperwork comes in.
This means that you attend all of the higher-up meetings which usually means that you remain quiet and take notes.
"Yes, Ensign (L/N) has greatly improved their productivity since they've boarded the ship."
It can be rather embarrassing but he's always been very proud.
After work he has you report to his ready room where the two of you can speak more personally.
Also sneaky cuddle time.
He has to contain himself until after the doors shut.
That way none of his senior staff see him practically dragging you to the sofa to cuddle.
He has you sit in his lap while he runs his fingers through your hair and nuzzles your neck.
He caresses your hands and face, feeling the tingling emotions that lie underneath.
"Po tor du tor me uz?" *Why do you make me feel?
You can feel how much enjoys the feeling of having someone that he can be vulnerable with.
He practically melts under your touch when you caress his face or run your fingers through his hair.
When you kissed his cheek for the first time he was completely taken aback.
He didn't really know how to handle such an alien form of affection.
He didn't say stop.
Everyone on the ship is suspicious, so a few of your fellow Ensigns come up with a plan.
During one time during your off hours, a few of your "friends" dressed you up in traditional Vulcan robes.
They put you in a holodeck and show you around to a few popular cultural sites from home.
Only for the Captain to come in just in time for the Senior Officer Baseball Game.
"Enjoying yourselves Ensigns?"
They don't act surprised but you are obviously embarrassed by taking up so much time.
"Apologies sir, we lost track of time."
He is trying so hard not to show emotion but you can see brushes of green on his ears.
"Try not to let it happen again."
Solok can barely focus on the game.
His mind keeps wandering back to you, standing in the beautiful red sands of Vulcan, looking so enticing.
When he gets back to his quarters he has to meditate for an extra hour just to get his mind back on track.
He calls you to his quarters.
When you arrive you see him still attempting to meditate.
"I will have to punish those Ensigns for trying to get an emotional response out of me."
You are about to apologize for not understanding what he meant.
He looks at you with a little disappointment seeing you dressed in your uniform.
"There is something I must inform you of Ensign."

DS9 Solok x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Slow burn (eventual smut, I promise), vulcan x human, vulcan superiority complex (?), angst, a lot of tension.
Summary: Assigned to assist Captain Solok on a research project meant to prove Vulcan superiority, a human officer disrupts his views.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 1 · Live long and regret this
The padd in your hand blinked as the message loaded, its Starfleet insignia flashing before the official orders appeared. You skimmed the text, expecting a routine assignment. That expectation shattered the moment you saw the name.
Assigned Officer: Captain Solok, USS T’Kumbra.
You stared. Blinked. Read it again.
“Oh... you have got to be kidding me what the fuck”
A few heads turned in your direction from across the lounge but you were too busy grappling with the sheer absurdity of your new assignment to care. Solok. The infamous Vulcan captain who had spent decades writing about human inferiority as if it were his personal research project. The same man who had antagonized Captain Sisko for years with his smug condescension, believing humans to be impulsive, emotional, and — his favorite — illogical.
And now you were supposed to work under him?
With a sigh, you scrolled down. The mission parameters were frustratingly vague. Solok had requested a Starfleet officer to assist him in a research study aboard the T’Kumbra. The subject? Efficiency differences between Vulcans and humans in problem-solving tasks.
You exhaled sharply. So, I’m not an assistant. I’m a test subject.
Great. Just great.
You’d encountered Vulcans before, most were respectful if a little cold. But Solok? He was something else entirely. Even among his own kind, his superiority complex was notorious. You could already imagine him watching your every move, taking notes the moment you hesitated or showed the slightest hint of emotion. You clenched your jaw.
A voice snapped you out of your thoughts – “You okay?”
You looked up to see Lieutenant Jansen, one of your colleagues, eyeing you with curiosity.
You forced a smile, waving the padd – “Just got my next assignment.”
He tilted his head – “And?”
You sighed dramatically – “Let’s just say I’ll be spending the next few weeks as Exhibit A in Captain Solok’s ‘Humans Are Inferior’ thesis.”
Jansen winced – “Oof. You must’ve pissed off someone at Command.”
“Clearly” – You shook your head, standing – “Well, if this is a test, I intend to pass it.”
Jansen grinned – “Make us proud. And if you can, get a Vulcan to admit they were wrong. I hear that’s rarer than a warp core breach.”
You smirked, though inside, you were already bracing yourself.
[ · · · ]
Back in your quarters, as soon as you sat down in your chair the communication chime rang. You groaned inwardly seeing who it was.
“On screen” you called.
The image flickered for a moment before stabilizing, revealing none other than Captain Solok himself. His face, as expected, was the epitome of Vulcan composure – no hint of emotion, no sign of warmth. His posture was perfect, hands clasped neatly behind his back. His eyes locked on you, calculating, observing.
“Lieutenant” he said coolly, his voice as precise as a scalpel – “I trust you are aware of the nature of this assignment?”
You held his gaze, resisting the urge to roll your eyes – “Yes, Captain. I understand the mission parameters.”
There was a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth, a subtle sign of his amusement or perhaps just his own smugness – “Good. The research will begin tomorrow. I have reviewed your Starfleet record. It is… acceptable.” His tone was neutral, but the underlying meaning was clear: he wasn’t impressed.
You bit back a sarcastic remark – ‘Acceptable’? How generous of him.
“I’ll do my best, Captain” you replied evenly.
Solok’s posture shifted slightly, an almost imperceptible motion, but the smugness in his voice grew – “Your best will be required, Lieutenant. But I must admit – there is some… curiosity on my part. I find it curious that the Federation would send someone like you to assist in a task that requires intellect and precision. Surely you have something more pressing to attend to?”
You narrowed your eyes, already sensing where this was going – “I’m here to learn from you, Captain. I’m sure you’ll find my input… valuable.”
Solok’s eyes gleamed with something you couldn’t quite place. “I highly doubt that, Lieutenant. But I suppose I will allow you to prove your… competence.”
The way he said the word made it sound as though he expected failure. His tone was so patronizing, you could almost hear the multiple invisible quotation marks around "competence."
You squared your shoulders. “I’ll prove you great competency, Captain.”
For a moment, the silence stretched, thick with tension. You could feel the weight of his scrutiny – every word, every gesture, calculated, evaluated.
Finally, Solok nodded, his face unreadable – “We shall see, Lieutenant. Report to the T'Kumbra tomorrow at 08:00 for the initial briefing. I expect your full attention.”
Before you could respond, the screen flickered, and his image vanished. Snobbish, smug vulcan.
[ · · · ]
You wake up without patience at 06:00 and start preparing yourself to officially move to the other ship, following the initial meeting with Solok.
The USS T’Kumbra was as precise as its captain – sterile, efficient and devoid of the casual chatter common on other Federation vessels. As the shuttle docked, you took a steadying breath. You had read about Captain Solok, a man infamous for his unwavering belief in Vulcan superiority, particularly over humans. It wasn’t exactly the warmest of welcomes, but you were determined to prove yourself.
Stepping onto the ship, you were greeted with the cool gaze of Solok himself. His expression was unreadable, hands clasped neatly behind his back.
“Lieutenant” he acknowledged – “Your presence was required for this assignment. I expect efficiency.”
You tilted your head, offering a polite smile – “Of course, Captain. I’ll do my best.”
He raised an eyebrow – “Your best is irrelevant. The task requires competency, not effort.”
Oh, this was going to be... Interesting.
He starts walking and so you follow him, being guided to the first area of the experiment. You can't help but notice how he walks, how his feet seem to move so perfectly you could almost call it robotic and yet, he was graceful and swaying like he was fluctuating.
You're taken out of your thoughts when he abruptly stops and look at you. You find yourself in front of panels containing a mix of calculations and other various data.
Solok observed you with the same scrutiny he would afford a malfunctioning instrument. He had prepared for this assignment thoroughly, expecting a predictable result: a human’s reliance on emotion over logic, their inevitable inefficiency, their inability to match Vulcan intellect.
Yet, mere minutes into your presence, variables had already begun to slip out of his control.
His plan was simple – assign you a series of tasks that would highlight your human limitations, subtly reinforcing his belief in Vulcan superiority. He did not expect resistance. But as you sat before him, poised, focused, and entirely unfazed by his scrutiny, he found his carefully laid foundation tested in an entirely unforeseen manner.
“Your role in this project is to analyze efficiency discrepancies between Vulcan and human work methodologies” – Solok stated, hands clasped behind his back – “Your personal input is not necessary, merely the data.”
You met his gaze steadily, a flicker of amusement in your expression – “Understood, Captain. However, if I may – wouldn’t a study be incomplete without qualitative insights?”
Solok’s eyebrow twitched upward – “A study is only as valuable as its empirical results. Human subjectivity is not required.”
You tilted your head slightly, considering – “Yet the Federation values cooperation between species, and part of that cooperation comes from understanding those differences, not dismissing them.”
Solok stiffened. That was… an interesting argument. One he did not expect.
Worse still, he had the distinct – and highly illogical – sensation that you were enjoying this.
You were neither defensive nor overly confident. You merely met his challenge with composure, intelligence, and – most frustratingly – grace.
And that was when it happened.
A flicker of a thought.
Unwelcome. Unexpected. Entirely unacceptable.
She is… aesthetically symmetrical.
The realization struck him with a force he did not anticipate. He had, of course, noticed human features before – Vulcans were not blind. But never had such an observation occupied his thoughts beyond the realm of detached acknowledgment.
Yet now, as he studied you in an attempt to regain control over the situation, he found himself distracted. Your posture was composed but not rigid, your expression thoughtful but not exaggerated. And your eyes… there was an intelligence there that unsettled him.
A moment too long passed.
You arched an eyebrow at him. “Captain?”
Solok straightened – “Proceed with the data compilation.” – His voice was crisp, devoid of any indication that his mind had just committed a severe breach of logic.
He turned sharply, retreating to his console. He would re-center himself, refocus his mind. This was nothing. A brief distraction.
And yet, as he listened to the quiet cadence of your voice working through the calculations, his thoughts betrayed him once more.
She is intelligent.
She is… an eligible mate.
Solok’s fingers froze over the console.
That was – No.
This was unacceptable. This was not logical. This was not happening.
Solok inhaled slowly through his nose, straightened his posture, and focused on the numbers before him. Facts. Data. Empirical truths.
And absolutely not on the entirely irrational way his mind had just categorized you.
For the first time in his career, Captain Solok was faced with an opponent he could not so easily dismiss.
And the most infuriating part?
You had no idea.
"Lieutenant Y/N" – He suddenly spoke, somehow surprised with his own voice – "... This... Test is over, for today... You may report back to your quarters and expect further instructions."
Your blood pressure drops significantly, worried you already did some kind of shit and gave him content to fuel his supremacist thesis – "Did I do something wrong, Captain?"
He looks at you and his eyes seem to narrow for a split second, you expected disapproval. What have you done to receive this form of divine punishment?
Solok senses your tension and coolly speaks – "You haven't done anything wrong, Lieutenant. I'm simply dismissing you for today after enough... Research."
You're scared to ask any questions, you only nod and prepare yourself to go back to your quarters. You walk to the doors and as you leave you can feel him staring down at your back.
If the first day was already a battle, you can only imagine what the next ones will be like.

Romantic Solok HCs:
A/N: I do sort of like it when he's rude to me. Hopefully, that's a psychological defect than a weird sexual thing. WHY WAS HE IN ONLY ONE EPISODE? WHY?

This man has a face you want to slap and kiss all at the same time.
No one knows why he seemed to like you more than anyone else on the station, not even you.
The two of you first met it was during the baseball game.
You had spent most of your time absentmindedly flirting with him as a way to get into his head.
"Hey," You whispered from your catcher's position.
"Are those space pants?"
"Because your butt looks out of this world."
<(¬////¬)> (Apparently, it did, a little too well.)
Who knew he would be a sucker for cheesy Earth pickup lines.
After that, he would return to DS9 for a variety of reasons. (Never to see you.)
No matter how hard you tried to hide around the station, he would somehow always find you.
He would bombard you with questions, (brag) inform you about his latest achievements and upcoming missions, and occasionally point out how you could improve your own work. (Charming)
If you were invited to the T'Kumbra to do repairs, he would constantly follow you around.
At first, you thought it was because you were a human on his ship.
During one of your visits to the T'Kumbra, you were squeezed into a crawl space, and Captain Solok was standing outside.
"Have you thought about transferring off of Deep Space Nine? It seems as if you could do better elsewhere."
You were confused, was that a compliment?
He further elaborates, "You would be able to rank up faster on a starship, possibly to Chief Engineer."
Was he offering to transfer you to his ship?
You quickly finish your work, pull yourself out of the wall, and politely as possible excuse yourself.
You disappear back onto DS9 where you begin to question his sudden strange behavior.
He wasn't able to wait for your answer, but that wasn't the last you heard from him either.
Soon you were getting messages of a rather personal nature from him.
He would send you offers of transfer, as well as Vulcan poetry, books, and even music.
When he did return to DS9 after his latest mission he didn't even bother meeting with Sisko first.
He pinned you at Quark's and demanded to speak with you, privately.
Before you could reply he was dragging you back to the T'Kumbra and into his private quarters.
He then had a complete (Vulcan) meltdown.
"Why have you not answered my request? Do you not understand how rare this opportunity is?" His voice was so calm it was scary.
"I have tried to prove that this ship, that," He paused and swallowed hard, "That I am worthy of your time."
Solok, who believed that Vulcans were superior to their Human counterparts, was trying to convince you, that he was good enough.
You would have thought you were dreaming if it wasn't for the small pinch you gave yourself.
He reached his hand out to you in the Vulcan kiss, hoping you would reciprocate.
When you pressed your fingers to his, you saw his whole face light up green.
"You bring out my most illogical traits, Koh-nar."

the sexual preferences of vulcan males
Vorik is 'step on me leather mommy' submissive
Taurik is a bisexual switch leaning towards 'boss me around' submissive
Yuris is 'acts of service' submissive
Solok is a bisexual switch, unclear which side is stronger, also with a fetish for emotional humans.
Soval without his * vulcan logic *, is one bad day away from quiting as a diplomat and just being a complete hoe.
Sarek is a mess
