#Soldatenlieder erika translation full#
Examples of German soldiers are A Heller and a Batzen, It is so nice to be a soldier, Morgenrot and I have 'a comrade. In addition to timeless themes such as love, homesickness and natural experience, some songs also have propagandistic significance, especially in the armies of totalitarian states such as the military power under the National Socialism or the NDR of the GDR, where the collective singing also the emotional attachment of the soldiers to the ruler and / Or the state ideology. Usually, the songs are meant to give you the courage and courage to strengthen your sense of comradeship - whether on the march, in combat or in the camp. Some German soldiers from the nineteenth century, like old sailors, are in their melody leaning against church members, such as O Germany highly honored. On the other hand, marches are played by a music band, for instance at solemn occasions.

Hoffmann was deprived of his chair in 1842 in consequence of his Unpolitische Lieder (1840–1841, "Unpolitical Songs"), which gave much offence to the authorities in Prussia. He was also made extraordinary professor of the German language and literature at that university in 1830, and ordinary professor in 1835. In 1823 he was appointed custodian of the university library at Breslau, a post which he held till 1838. His original intention was to study theology, but he soon devoted himself entirely to literature. The son of a merchant and mayor of his native city, he was educated at the classical schools of Helmstedt and Braunschweig, and afterwards at the universities of Göttingen and Bonn. Hoffmann was born in Fallersleben in Lower Saxony, then in the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. He is best known for writing "Das Lied der Deutschen", its third stanza now being the national anthem of Germany, and a number of popular children's songs, considered part of the Young Germany movement. To read the rest of the article, please click here.Īugust Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben was a German poet. Diagnosed with "psychotic melancholia", Schumann died two years later in 1856 without having recovered from his mental illness. After a suicide attempt in 1854, Schumann was admitted to amental asylum, at his own request, in Endenich near Bonn. Schumann suffered from a lifelong mental disorder, first manifesting itself in 1833 as a severe melancholic depressive episode, which recurred several times alternating with phases of ‘exaltation’ and increasingly also delusional ideas of being poisoned or threatened with metallic items. Clara also composed music and had a considerable concert career as a pianist, the earnings from which formed a substantial part of her father's fortune. In 1840, Schumann married Friedrich Wieck's daughter Clara, against the wishes of her father, following a long and acrimonious legal battle, which found in favor of Clara and Robert. His writings about music appeared mostly in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik (New Journal for Music), a Leipzig-based publication which he jointly founded. Works such as Kinderszenen, Album für die Jugend, Blumenstück, the Sonatas and Albumblätter are among his most famous. Schumann's published compositions were written exclusively for the piano until 1840 he later composed works for piano and orchestra many Lieder (songs for voice and piano) four symphonies an opera and other orchestral, choral, and chamber works. Schumann then focused his musical energies on composing. He had been assured by his teacher Friedrich Wieck that he could become the finest pianist in Europe, but a hand injury ended this dream. Schumann left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Robert Schumann was a German composer and influential music critic.

SOLDATENLIEDER VERBOTEN SERIES

This award will be issued to members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. The member must have attended a minimum of 35 tactical events. Must be an active member of the unit for 3 years and have been awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class. Must be a member of the unit for 5 years, have already been awarded the Bronze class, Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class and have attended a total of 75 tactical events. This award comes in 3 grades and will be awarded with the least prestigious first and all clasps having similar criteria starting with the least stringent. Member must also be a holder of the Iron Cross First and Second Class. The criteria for this award is that the member must have been active for a minimum of 8 years and have attended a total of 150 tactical events. An example of this might be a large unit donation or purchase of a large unit item such as a truck or light armoured vehicle. The portrayal of the woman (“Mägdelein”) as “waiting, crying, devoted, loyal, and yet adored woman” corresponded to the role cliché of the “loyal caring wife” propagated by the Nazis.Ībroad, the marching song Erika was and is perceived as a “typical German song”, although to this day mostly inseparable from the German Wehrmacht For example, in 1983, on the junta's tenth anniversary in Chile, it was part of the repertoire of the band of a Chilean military battalion in “familiar field gray with original Wehrmacht steel helmet”, which was still in the tradition of “former German military aid”.This award will be given to members who continuously go above and beyond for the betterment of the unit and reenacting as a whole.
SOLDATENLIEDER VERBOTEN SERIES
The particular popularity of the marching song during the Second World War is sometimes explained by the fact that it was lyrically part of a series of popular songs with German female first names, in which Wehrmacht soldiers who had gone to war could sing of their loved ones and wives who had stayed at home. This musical idea, which at first glance does not match the lyrical and melodic content of the song, makes the composition memorable and, through its sonic similarity to cannon blows, subliminally emphasizes the character of a war song. The independent march composition shows a concise detail, as it was spread in the recordings at the time of the Third Reich: The vocal part, otherwise completely arranged as march music, is counterpointed in all melody pauses with three rapidly successive steam hammer-like drum beats (without instrumental accompaniment, this results automatically from the sound of the marching feet), which stand completely on their own without accompaniment:Ī little flower blooms on the heather (xxx) / and its name is: (xxx) Erika (xxx). The composition is a marching song, a song that could be sung by soldiers (mostly marching) without instrumental accompaniment. The militaristic hits and the marching songs were the "answer to the approaching war". The conscious use of new technical mass media during National Socialism, especially in film and radio, accommodated this and quickly ensured the popularity of Nazi songs and music. The more the Schlager-song escaped from the harsh reality in dreamy bliss and faked a cozy love affair and pleasure idyll, the better "the true face of Nazi Germany" could be hidden behind the many soft minor tones. In particular, the Reich Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels recognized popular, simple songs as a useful means of propaganda. The marching song "Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein" (Erika) was published for the first time in 1938. Niel, who joined the NSDAP at the beginning of May 1933 and made it to the position of “leading” conductor in the Reichsmusikzug of the Reich Labor Service during the Nazi era, created numerous marching songs that were largely used for Nazi propaganda. The lyrics and the melody come from the German composer for marching songs, Herms Niel (1888–1954).

To the Front (1/9)
2 July 1917.
There is little to be said about this war.
1917 came with little more than the same news over and over again: the Western Front of the Great War is but a Great Stalemate. In June I went, with the folks from home, to the front, with little more than a rifle slung over our shoulders.
News arrived, day by day from the frontlines: victories after victories! The Marne, the Somme, and the latest great victory, Arras. God knows what kind of victory gains us no ground – even though the papers lauded the great warriors of Germany for crushing the British assault, word’s on the streets that we failed to gain any ground – it’s the same old quiet front as usual, where none’s the wiser as to what happens next.
So we from Osnabrück, all three dozens of us, joined up with the 2nd Company Reserves of the 2. Garde-Reserve-Division, all more or less than three hundred of us. Uneventful the march was, as we trudged from village to village, from wrecked buildings to ravaged towns – it was a most boring expedition, interrupted every once in a while with the odd crack of a stray bullet from the front. Some print shop worker from Rupprecht’s, having already been sent home once for a broken femur back in ‘14, was with us, and god forbid – the moment we marched out of some nameless village in Flanders, he was struck by bullets from a random machinegun spray. The poor sod was sent home again, this time not on a stretcher, but a body bag.
But it was business as usual, I wagered. It certainly made the little performance by some musicians from the Pioniere corps slightly less enthralling, however - and it was already being interrupted, here and there, by the sound of errant artillery shells. They played Preußens Gloria -  Prussia's Glory. I was never the most attentive student in history class, but I think it was written for the war in 1871. Funny how the victory march of one war was now being played to the sound of another where victory is nowhere to be found. Oh how excitedly have we entered this war, thinking that it’d be another triumph! Now look at us, a bunch of sad souls listening to old marches next to some Flanders ditch, commemorating our first casualty before we even saw fighting.

Soldatenlieder - Preußens Gloria (Spiegel TV)
The next day we were on the march again. The front is now visible just over a grey cloud at the far side of one’s view. We crossed yet another muddied river under the rumbling of cannonades in the distance, seemingly on an aimless and incoherent journey to the edge of nowhere.

Lippe-Detmold
Lippe-Detmold
Prof. Dr. Bolte, Berlin , z.Zt. Detmold , DVA A 107 925 , Soldatenlieder-Sammlung ,1914-1918)
