A solar inverter plays a critical role in converting the direct current (DC) energy produced by your solar panels into alternating current (AC) energy, which is used by most home appliances and businesses. Earthwise Energy provides cutting-edge Solar Inverter Solutions that ensure your solar power system operates efficiently.
Our inverters come with advanced features such as real-time monitoring, optimization, and system performance tracking. We also offer smart inverters that can automatically adjust to changes in sunlight and weather conditions, maximizing the energy production of your system.
7. Solar Panel Maintenance: Ensuring Optimal Performance
To ensure your solar energy system continues to operate at peak efficiency, regular Solar Panel Maintenance is essential. Over time, dirt, debris, and environmental factors can reduce the performance of your panels. Earthwise Energy offers comprehensive maintenance services that include cleaning, inspection, and performance checks to keep your system functioning optimally.
Our technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your system, check for any signs of wear, and address any issues that may arise. Regular maintenance can help extend the lifespan of your panels and avoid costly repairs in the future. With our services, you can rest assured that your solar system will continue to deliver the energy savings you expect.
8. The Importance of Battery Backup Systems
Battery Backup Systems are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners and businesses look for ways to enhance the reliability of their solar power systems. These systems store excess energy generated by the solar panels during peak sunlight hours, allowing you to use that stored energy when the sun is not shining.
For residential properties, a battery backup system ensures that you have power during outages or periods of heavy consumption. What Is The Purpose Of Uninterruptible Power Supply?
Tumblr media
In response to sudden power outages in life, people may start to consider using UPS at home. UPS is backup system that provides power in the event of utility failure. It is a constant voltage, constant frequency uninterruptible power supply with inverter as the main component. The main role of the UPS is twofold. On the one hand, it is to provide a reliable power supply to prevent sudden utility power outages from affecting the normal operation of the equipment and causing damage to the equipment. When the utility input is normal, the UPS will be the utility voltage regulator to supply the load, and it also charges the battery; when the utility power is interrupted, the UPS supplies AC power to the load through inverter conversion to maintain normal operation and protect the load from damage. On the other hand, it is to provide high quality power supply and enhance the quality of power supply by eliminating contamination such as surges, instantaneous high or low voltage and frequency shifts in the mains. Xindun has high-frequency inverters and low frequency inverters that can be used as line-interactive UPS. All our inverters are pure sine wave output. If you are interested in our products, please contact Xindun!

The Van Has Officially Declared It Spooky Season
---
I've got my parent's van for the week and it seems determined to establish my status as The Local Cryptid by terrorizing an innocent 7-11 clerk.
...I might need to back up a bit.
My mother is an eminently sensible woman who knows herself well, and when The Plauge hit, she knew she'd need some sort of mentally and physically engaging craft project to keep herself from going insane and massacring the local zoning and water management boards (even if they have it coming). So she and Dad acquired a utility van and converted it into a camper van because while they love camping, they're past the age where their joints and immune systems will tolerate sleeping on the cold ground in a nylon tent.
They did a terrific job of it and my mom taught herself woodworking and carpentry and now the van has it's own cabinets, fold-away dining table, and removable queen-sized bed with memory foam mattress. My Dad was already a computer engineer, but he learned the dark magics of automotive software and electronics to install after-market backup cameras, a media player that would take a terabyte hard drive and a solar-powered battery and outlet so they could wake up and just turn on the kettle and griddle for breakfast without having to exit the van into a cold morning on an empty stomach.
Truly, the height of Camping Luxury.
My parents are both in their mid-seventies and my primary life goal is to be at least half as cool and hale as they are when I get old.
Anyway, they take it out at least a dozen times a year and it works fabulously, but, being as I am on good terms with my parents and also finishing the process of moving house, I've been borrowing it to move large and cumbersome objects that will not fit in the back of my equally lovely but minuscule Honda hatchback.
It's a Great Van. Very easy and comfortable to drive. Stunningly good MPG for it's size. The best cruise control I've ever had in a car.
It's just also. Quirky. Mischievous, even.
---
If this van has a fault its that it bears the unfortunate affliction that all lightly used white utility vans have in that the combination of an utter lack of branding features and the large dent/scrape I accidentally put on it while trying to escape a Denny's last Thanksgiving means that this vehicle is one addition of a Badly Spray-Painted "FREE CANDY" on the side away from being the sort of vehicle you see in an edgy horror movie.
It's got the same issue that Doberman Dogs have where they look like the sort of creature that likes to snack on toddler's faces whilst actually having personalities made of marshmallow fluff. This vehicle is unnecessarily menacing and I think nothing short of an airbrushed Epic Van Wizard will correct this. People see this van pull up and lean over and squint suspiciously at me when the driver's side door opens, and then look moderately confused when, instead of Charles Manson, a small, potato-shaped creature with neon purple hair and a statistically unlikely assortment of dogs emerges.
My own two dogs, Herschel the Hanukkah Goblin/Corgi and Charleston Chew The Taco Dumpster Dog, Do Not Like The Van. Even with the bed in it, they have a tendency to slide and roll around in the back, and both WILL chew through dog saftey belts or other attempts to secure them in there.
On the other hand, my house mate's dog, an exceptionally tall standard poodle whom we lovingly call "The Creature", loves the Van because SHE wears her doggy seat-belt with only mild complaining and gets to sit up in the passenger seat like A People.
Also like A People, The Creature likes to stand and walk around on her hind legs. It doesn't hurt her and it's entirely voluntary, but every so often I will feel a hand on my arm and instead of my husband or friend, it's a canine that's taller than I am on her hind legs who wants to stare at my face with soulful, concerned eyes. The Creature's favorite thing is that she is exactly the right height for me to hold her arm in Genteel Fashion and walk around the pet food or hardware store with her like I'm a count escorting a debutante around a royal ball.
---
As it stands, I am set to inherit this vehicle whenever my Honda gives up the ghost, and I fully intend to paint an Epic Van Wizard on it when that time comes.
The other peculiarity of The Van is that while Dad did manage to successfully install all his after-market electronics, not all the electronics get along. Sometimes, they fight for Dominance. The Terabyte Music Player and the Backup Camera have a particularly contentious relationship, and turning on the music has about a 25% chance of turning on the backup camera as well, and turning on the Backup Camera is equally likely to turn on the music.
Firthermore, The Van has a favorite song.
I am not kidding that Dad filled an entire terabyte hard drive with music and the software to sort it via the radio controls, but of all the Early Boomer Dad Rock (Kingston Trio over The Eagles) and Irish Folk and Symphonies and the entire discography of Weird Al Yankovic, The Van's favorite song- The one it picks to play as victory music every time it beats the Backup Camera at their weird electronic game of rock-paper-scissors -is The Liberty Bell March by John Phillip Sousa.
You all know this song already.
...but in case you've forgotten the tune:
youtube
Yeah.
The Van's favorite song is the goddamn Monty Python's Flying Circus Theme Music.
It does not play this song at a normal volume.
Every time I turn on the Backup Camera and it manages to turn the music player on as well, The Van insists on absolutely blasting this nonsense on at the maximum volume it's physically capable of producing, which I know is loud enough to be heard from the Denver International Airport's Pickup zone when they Van decided to start playing it from the economy lot about half a mile away.
Perhaps it's The Van's way of honoring the aesthetic sensibilities and sonic enthusiasm of Mr. Sousa.
...I can't help but wonder if the purpose of an Epic Van Wizard is to control this sort of faerie-like malarkey, and channel these chaotic energies into things like Spell of Don't Break Down In Nevada or Enchantment Of Always Have Good Parking.
---
So last Friday the 13th, I get a call from my friend and housemate, at said airport.
It's roughly 11PM at night, and I have already retired for the evening. I am in the exact minimum of clothing required to be a decent housemate and not scandalize the neighbors should I happen to walk by a window. My feet are up. There is a cat in my lap and fictional British people murdering each other in highly inventive fashion on the tv. -But my friend has returned from her friend's wedding, and either American or United Airlines has managed to lose her luggage, including, among other valuable possessions, the keys to her car. ...So she cannot just drive home as originally planned.
There are, as luck would have it, her spare set of keys not eight feet from me.
Being a good and decent person, I agree to bring the spare keys to her so she may get home before daybreak and not spend a semester's worth of tuition on an uber across the greater Denver traffic jam.
Being also that she Loves Activities, and it's her mom we're going to pick up, I elect to take along The Creature.
I am primarily focused on remembering how to get to the airport and not leaving my friend's spare keys on the counter, so I throw on a pair of flip-flops, step outside, remember that it's AUTUMN and my minimal evening attire is not sufficient thermal protection, step back in, grab the first coat in the closet I lay hands on, pull it on, check that I have her keys again and leave.
The trip to the airport is largely unremarkable, save that it becomes necessary for me to put on sunglasses to drive, despite it being nearly the witching hour and almost entirely darker than the inside of a cow.
It's necessary because this blissful darkness of night is violently punctured by a startling number of cars that seem to have installed miniaturized but no less powerful lighthouse bulbs in where their headlights ought to go so the oncoming traffic and sports cars that insist on tailgating me in the slow lane alike illuminate the road and my mirrors with the kind of radiance I'd normally associate with the arrival of a Seraphim.
I arrive at the distant highly discounted airport car lot where my housemate is waiting, deeply apologetic. It's nothing. I say. Once I see that your car starts up, I'm gonna go to that 7-11 across the way that I parked in front of, get a slurpee or something and I'll see you at home.
While she is retrieving her vehicle (an equally eccentric but much more stately Subaru that is old enough to be elected to congress) I rifle through the loose change in the glove box and discover that I have exactly $6.66 in small bills and coins. The Subaru, continuing it's long voyage into vehicular immortality, immediately starts up.
Upon her return, we all remember that my friend had all her camping gear in the backseat of the car and there is no room for The Creature to ride home with her parent, so I again assure her it's nothing, and will just take The Creature into the 7-11 with me. She is trained as a service animal and needs the practice after the plague.
I wave my friend off and turn to enter the 7-11.
I promptly trip over the jutting back bumper of The Van and fall, cartoonishly, face-first onto the sidewalk.
Fortunately, I have a lot of practice falling on my face, and have learned not to throw my hands out but instead cover my face, so my unexpected self-inflicted attempted curb-stomping lightly scrapes my hairline and nothing else -my sunglasses even stay in place- and I get up and resume my quest for a slurpee.
It's well known that the airport is a lawless place, and the 7-11 across from the discounted airport parking at the stroke of midnight is no exception.
I know it's the stroke of Midnight because there's one of those Audubon society bird-call clocks that makes bird noises, and my arrival is heralded by the twittering call of a Summer Tanager. I am almost charmed enough by the unusual choice of chronological device to excuse the exorbitant Airport-adjacent mark-up of Slurpee prices. I stand at the machine for some time, trying to decide on a size for the price and guess what the fuck "Blue Lighting Blast" is supposed to taste like.
The Creature is being Very Polite but is somewhat agitated, I assume because she *just* saw her mother for the first time in three days and then she LEFT with no explanation, so The Creature is on her hind legs, staring woefully into my eyes, asking to be escorted around the 7-11. Even though that's not what she's not supposed to be doing, there's nobody else in here, so I let her hang off my arm and discuss various Slurpee Flavor options with her.
We eventually decide on an experiment in which I try a Small Blue Lightning Blast, and discover it tastes a bit like licking a nintendo cartridge but in a pleasantly satisfying way.
I go up to pay and realize something is amiss.
The Cashier is a young man staring at me with wide eyes, one had over the register and the other wrapped up in his rosary.
I look down at myself.
In my haste to reunite my friend with her spare keys and service animal, I had left the house in the following accoutrements:
Flip Flops. Not matching. It's below freezing outside. That last part is not particularly odd footwear for the weather in for Colorado, but it's an important detail for the rest of the ensemble.
Assorted scrapes, bruises, cuts and welts on my arms and legs that come with doing outdoor work and living in a house with three dogs and a fully-clawed cat that all want to be in my lap all the time. It's cold out, so vasoconstriction has pulled the blood away from my skin, a trait that served my ancestors well during the last Ice Age, but leaves me with pale skin to contrast the various wounds and I look like a corpse that fell out of the back of a pickup truck.
The black Bootyshorts with "CRYPTID" painted in bright red gothic font across my ass, that @theshitpostcalligrapher gave me for my wedding present.
A peculiar but extremely comfortable garment that straddles the line between "Lacy Camisole" and "Industrial-Strength Sports Bra" like the Ever Given straddling the Suez Canal. It is also Bright Red. with black accents.
The Jacket I had grabbed out of the closet, which is in fact, a black Velour Dinner Jacket.
The Tokyo-Ghoul inspired reusable anti-covid mask a friend made me with the set of Coyote Teeth.
My sunglasses, which are shaped like a Halloween Bat. The lenses are the wings and the body is the nose bridge. It is ALSO bright red.
A Very Large and remarkably Humanoid Poodle that I have been audibly affectionately calling "Dear Creature" who is hanging off my arm like she's my Prom Date.
The Very Large and remarkably Humanoid Poodle is ALSO dressed up in a black Dog Sweater that has white bones printed on it to look like its an X-ray jacket showing off her skeleton.
I look like I am taking my Very Fancy Werewolf Girlfriend to a particularly casual Dinner Party for Vampires, but the thing that's really selling it and probably alarming the kid the most is the fun accessory I acquired in the parking lot not five minutes earlier:
The "Small Scrape At my Hairline" is actually a painless but PROFUSELY bleeding head wound that I had somehow entirely failed to notice covering my face, neck, decolletage and magnificent cleavage with blood like a Tarantino Film Extra.
This does explain why The Creature has been delicately trying to use her bodyweight to push me down onto the floor for the last ten minutes. So I don't injure myself while we wait for the paramedics she hoped this kid called to arrive, you see.
The Creature has such a High and Naive Opinion of humanity.
I decide this social situation is already fucked, and the only way out is through, and with haste, before I start dripping on the floor.
"Hi there!" I say cheerfully, to indicate this is a visually alarming but not terribly serious situation. "Just a Small Slurpee!"
The Cashier has entered the relevant code into the register before I finish the sentence. His gaze flicks off me just long enough to look at the total, and he grips his Rosary harder.
$6.66
"Oh cool! I have exact change!" I say, taking the money out of my as-yet-unsanguined pocket without looking and slap it down on the counter. "You have a good night and be safe out there!" I wave, leaving.
I get in The Van, mortified, buckle The Creature up, and as I make to leave, I have to put it in reverse, which automatically turns on the backup Camera.
It also turns on the music player.
I make eye contact with the cashier as the dulcet tones of John Phillip Sousa boom from the van hard enough to make the windshield and the windows of the 7-11 rattle for the nine-and-a-half seconds I have to wait to be able to turn the volume back down. Not knowing what else to to, I give him a thumbs up, and leave.
Anyway, now I know what my Future Van Wizard has got to be dressed like, and what their familiar is.

"The man who has called climate change a “hoax” also can be expected to wreak havoc on federal agencies central to understanding, and combating, climate change. But plenty of climate action would be very difficult for a second Trump administration to unravel, and the 47th president won’t be able to stop the inevitable economy-wide shift from fossil fuels to renewables.
“This is bad for the climate, full stop,” said Gernot Wagner, a climate economist at the Columbia Business School. “That said, this will be yet another wall that never gets built. Fundamental market forces are at play.”
A core irony of climate change is that markets incentivized the wide-scale burning of fossil fuels beginning in the Industrial Revolution, creating the mess humanity is mired in, and now those markets are driving a renewables revolution that will help fix it. Coal, oil, and gas are commodities whose prices fluctuate. As natural resources that humans pull from the ground, there’s really no improving on them — engineers can’t engineer new versions of coal.
By contrast, solar panels, wind turbines, and appliances like induction stoves only get better — more efficient and cheaper — with time. Energy experts believe solar power, the price of which fell 90 percent between 2010 and 2020, will continue to proliferate across the landscape. (Last year, the United States added three times as much solar capacity as natural gas.) Heat pumps now outsell gas furnaces in the U.S., due in part to government incentives. Last year, Maine announced it had reached its goal of installing 100,000 heat pumps two years ahead of schedule, in part thanks to state rebates. So if the Trump administration cut off the funding for heat pumps that the IRA provides, states could pick up the slack.
Tumblr media
Local utilities are also finding novel ways to use heat pumps. Over in Massachusetts, for example, the utility Eversource Energy is experimenting with “networked geothermal,” in which the homes within a given neighborhood tap into water pumped from underground. Heat pumps use that water to heat or cool a space, which is vastly more efficient than burning natural gas. Eversource and two dozen other utilities, representing about half of the country’s natural gas customers, have formed a coalition to deploy more networked geothermal systems.
Beyond being more efficient, green tech is simply cheaper to adopt. Consider Texas, which long ago divorced its electrical grid from the national grid so it could skirt federal regulation. The Lone Star State is the nation’s biggest oil and gas producer, but it gets 40 percent of its total energy from carbon-free sources. “Texas has the most solar and wind of any state, not because Republicans in Texas love renewables, but because it’s the cheapest form of electricity there,” said Zeke Hausfather, a research scientist at Berkeley Earth, a climate research nonprofit. The next top three states for producing wind power — Iowa, Oklahoma, and Kansas — are red, too.
State regulators are also pressuring utilities to slash emissions, further driving the adoption of wind and solar power. As part of California’s goal of decarbonizing its power by 2045, the state increased battery storage by 757 percent between 2019 and 2023. Even electric cars and electric school buses can provide backup power for the grid. That allows utilities to load up on bountiful solar energy during the day, then drain those batteries at night — essential for weaning off fossil fuel power plants. Trump could slap tariffs on imported solar panels and thereby increase their price, but that would likely boost domestic manufacturing of those panels, helping the fledgling photovoltaic manufacturing industry in red states like Georgia and Texas.
The irony of Biden’s signature climate bill is states that overwhelmingly support Trump are some of the largest recipients of its funding. That means tampering with the IRA could land a Trump administration in political peril even with Republican control of the Senate, if not Congress. In addition to providing incentives to households (last year alone, 3.4 million American families claimed more than $8 billion in tax credits for home energy improvements), the legislation has so far resulted in $150 billion of new investment in the green economy since it was passed in 2022, boosting the manufacturing of technologies like batteries and solar panels. According to Atlas Public Policy, a research group, that could eventually create 160,000 jobs. “Something like 66 percent of all of the spending in the IRA has gone to red states,” Hausfather said. “There certainly is a contingency in the Republican party now that’s going to support keeping some of those subsidies around.”
Before Biden’s climate legislation passed, much more progress was happening at a state and local level. New York, for instance, set a goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 40 percent by 2030, and 85 percent by 2050. Colorado, too, is aiming to slash emissions by at least 90 percent by 2050. The automaker Stellantis has signed an agreement with the state of California promising to meet the state’s zero-emissions vehicle mandate even if a judicial or federal action overturns it. It then sells those same cars in other states.
“State governments are going to be the clearest counterbalance to the direction that Donald Trump will take the country on environmental policy,” said Thad Kousser, co-director of the Yankelovich Center for Social Science Research at the University of California, San Diego. “California and the states that ally with it are going to try to adhere to tighter standards if the Trump administration lowers national standards.”
[Note: One of the obscure but great things about how emissions regulations/markets work in the US is that automakers generally all follow California's emissions standards, and those standards are substantially higher than federal standards. Source]
Last week, 62 percent of Washington state voters soundly rejected a ballot initiative seeking to repeal a landmark law that raised funds to fight climate change. “Donald Trump’s going to learn something that our opponents in our initiative battle learned: Once people have a benefit, you can’t take it away,” Washington Governor Jay Inslee said in a press call Friday. “He is going to lose in his efforts to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, because governors, mayors of both parties, are going to say, ‘This belongs to me, and you’re not going to get your grubby hands on it.’”
Even without federal funding, states regularly embark on their own large-scale projects to adapt to climate change. California voters, for instance, just overwhelmingly approved a $10 billion bond to fund water, climate, and wildfire prevention projects. “That will be an example,” said Saharnaz Mirzazad, executive director of the U.S. branch of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability. “You can use that on a state level or local level to have [more of] these types of bonds. You can help build some infrastructure that is more resilient.”
Urban areas, too, have been major drivers of climate action: In 2021, 130 U.S. cities signed a U.N.-backed pledge to accelerate their decarbonization. “Having an unsupportive federal government, to say the least, will be not helpful,” said David Miller, managing director at the Centre for Urban Climate Policy and Economy at C40, a global network of mayors fighting climate change. “It doesn’t mean at all that climate action will stop. It won’t, and we’ve already seen that twice in recent U.S. history, when Republican administrations pulled out of international agreements. Cities step to the fore.”
And not in isolation, because mayors talk: Cities share information about how to write legislation, such as laws that reduce carbon emissions in buildings and ensure that new developments are connected to public transportation. They transform their food systems to grow more crops locally, providing jobs and reducing emissions associated with shipping produce from afar. “If anything,” Miller said, “having to push against an administration, like that we imagine is coming, will redouble the efforts to push at the local level.”
Federal funding — like how the U.S. Forest Service has been handing out $1.5 billion for planting trees in urban areas, made possible by the IRA — might dry up for many local projects, but city governments, community groups, and philanthropies will still be there. “You picture a web, and we’re taking scissors or a machete or something, and chopping one part of that web out,” said Elizabeth Sawin, the director of the Multisolving Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that promotes climate solutions. “There’s this resilience of having all these layers of partners.”
All told, climate progress has been unfolding on so many fronts for so many years — often without enough support from the federal government — that it will persist regardless of who occupies the White House. “This too shall pass, and hopefully we will be in a more favorable policy environment in four years,” Hausfather said. “In the meantime, we’ll have to keep trying to make clean energy cheap and hope that it wins on its merits.”"

So how do you produce electricity with living plants? Simply by using the natural processes that already occur. In short: the plant produces organic matter via photosynthesis. Only part of this organic matter is then used for its own growth. The rest is excreted via the roots. Around the roots, bacteria feed on the organic matter and they release electrons. If you’re able to harvest the electrons into an electrode, you can couple the first electrode to a counter-electrode and build an electrical circuit, like in a battery. The electrons flow back into the natural system via the counter-electrode, so it’s completely circular. Because we use the natural processes around the plant, nature is not harmed. It works day and night, summer and winter. It only stops when the plant and its surroundings completely dry up or freeze over.
Sedum Oviferum
Sedum pachyphyllum is a ground-hugging succulent that spreads by rooting fallen stems and leaves. The succulent also goes by the names “Cerise Moonstones” or “Mauve Pebbles”. The short and stumpy round leaves have a light silvery-purple color; positioned at a right angles to the stem and curve upward, which in the wintertime, the tips of said leaves will turn into a notorious red.
Sedum Oviferum is a succulent that is very easy to grow and maintain. It is a resilient plant that can tolerate drought, moist and dry soils, and when given adequate exposure to sunlight and sufficient water, Cerise Moonstones will thrive outdoors. The Sedum Oviferum succulent grows at its best with regular exposure to sunlight. If Mauve Pebbles are planted in an area in a garden that gets plenty of sunlight per day, you will be rewarded with bright coloured leaves and flowers. In winter and early spring, Cerise Moonstones actively grow and produce blooms featuring red-orange petals and sepals that have the same pigmentation as the leaves. The flowers produced by Cerise Moonstones have a bell shape and a sugary fragrance.
Subterranean Clover
Trifolium subterraneum is also known as the subterranean clover (often shortened to sub clover), or subterranean trefoil. The plant's name comes from its underground seed development, a characteristic not possessed by other clovers. It can thrive in poor-quality soil where other clovers cannot survive.
This species is self-fertilizing, unlike most legume forage crops such as alfalfa and other clovers, which are pollinated by insects, especially honeybees. It is also grown in places where the extreme ranges of soil type and quality, rainfall, and temperature make the variable tolerances of sub clover especially useful.
Functionality
GR96 are powered by any plant of choosing on their back pod (the one we are going to discuss has a giant Sedum Oviferum and multiple sub clovers to operate) which is held in place by five strong suction cups. They’re manufactured for community gardens (strictly only one per garden), but they can also be bought by high class citizens for private properties, though at a way bigger cost since they’re financed by the city.
They can use their hands as scissors, shovels, and for watering (hence the big forearms, for storing the water), the latter which they do by dipping their hands in a bucket, opening the valve on their forearms so they can fill them up and releasing the water from the pinholes on their palms. Their “eyes” are actually a screen that can show plenty expressions, but the two circles above that peripheral screen are the real environmental sensors. They also have the same sensors on their ankles for inspecting the lower plants and ground without the need of kneeling, and their feet are shaped in a way so that weight is evenly distributed, lowering the chances of damaging a plant if they were to step on it. The ear like protrusions are small solar panels, used as backup energy (they don’t have any communication properties). Their speaker aka their “voice” is the mohawk-like structure on the top (which also has their series barcode 128 on the lower back), but when they speak there are these strips at the sides of the face mask that light up with the volume. The mask (non removable) has a set of pipes that are used for analyzing the air quality and humidity of the area surrounding them.

Story Summary: Fate had thrown you back into Jod Na Nawood’s orbit, and despite your history with the captain, you found yourself pulled into his reckless mission. A treasure map, precious cargo, and an entire galaxy chasing after it—everything about it screamed trouble but what wouldn't you do for him. WC: 1,372 Note: I don't know if I should write more chapters so if you're interested let me know
You were on your way back home from another successful job. No matter how many times you had flown through the galaxy, you still couldn’t help but admire it. The sharp crackle of your comms interrupted your thoughts, followed by the familiar voice of one of your bosses.
"Hey, Patch." The nickname drew a faint smirk to your lips. “I’ve just had a transmission come through, and you’re the closest. Do you mind checking it out for me? They don’t know what’s wrong, so you’ll just have to figure it out once you’re there.” Your job didn’t really excite you like it did at the start; it was just another paycheck, another ship, and another faceless crew who needed you to patch up their mess.
“Sure. I can do that.”
“The ship’s called Solar Spear. I’ve sent you the location, and as always, contact me if you need something. The comms crackle back out, and the screen in front of you chimes and flashes up with coordinates. You set the course and go on your way. Once you arrive, you see that there is no active power signature, and one side of the hull is caved in slightly, scorched and crumpled as if it had been scraped by something much larger. Your brow furrows as you assess the damage the best you can. Ships like this usually limped to a station after taking hits like those, but here it was, silent and adrift.
“Solar Spear, This is RPR-18. I received your transmission for help—you’re expecting me.” You tap into their comms, hoping that they're working. It takes a few moments, but eventually a response comes through.
“Yes, we have a small docking bay at the back right. Thank you.” You pull the ship up and land in the small space. The docking bay was small—only just fitting your ship. The clamps lock it into place, and the door behind shuts, so you power your engines off and get out, leaving your tools for once you knew what you were dealing with. When your feet hit the ground, the entry doors hiss open, and a young man is standing there.
"Thanks for coming," he said with a polite nod, hands clasped in front of him. "The captain’s expecting you. I’ll take you to him."
You follow him, walking through the ship and towards the bridge. The ship then starts rumbling slightly, and you hear someone call out that the backup supply has been engaged. The bridge door then hisses open, and you step inside. The room glowed softly as systems came back online, control panels lighting up one by one. The faint murmur of the crew and the hum of technology returned. But none of that caught your attention. Not really. Because standing right there was him.
Jod Na Nawood
The years hadn’t really changed him. His coat hung loose over his shoulders, a blaster was strapped at his hip, and that same cocky half-smile curled at the corner of his mouth. His hair was now streaked lightly with silver at the temples. And then there were his eyes, locked on you the moment you stepped into view, like they always used to be.
“Sunshine” His voice was soft, as if he were testing the weight of the word, but hearing that name on his lips again was like a punch to the gut. It was from another version of yourself—one who had trusted him, laughed with him, loved him. You force down the lump in your throat and steady your breath.
“Captain Nawood” Your eyes glance around the bridge, noting how the crew kept their heads down, busying themselves with their tasks, pretending not to listen.
“Captain?” He repeated “You never used to call me that unless we were off duty.” His smirk deepened, voice laced with teasing nostalgia. He stepped closer, his body just within your personal space, the heat of him unmistakable. “I always did like how you used to say it.”
Heat pricked up your neck and onto your cheek, but despite your best efforts to not show how it made you feel, Jod caught it. His smirk stretched wider, eyes flickering over your face, down to your mouth, then back up.
“What am I doing here? You’ve got the backup supply; that should be more than enough to get you to a planet for repairs. So is there anything else, or can I go?”
“There’s no time for that; we have important cargo that needs to be delivered quickly. Can you just have a look at the main system and see if you can work some of your magic?” Yesterday you could’ve sworn that if you saw this man again you would’ve killed him, but now, with him in front of you, that wasn’t even a thought.
“You’re telling me that you’re working for someone?” you said, crossing your arms tightly over your chest. “Since when do you answer to anyone?”
“Since someone paid me well enough to make it worth my while.” He could tell from the look on your face that you didn’t believe him. “You make it sound like I’ve never followed the rules before.”
“That’s because you haven’t.” You say plainly. He laughed softly, the sound warm and familiar. For a moment anger bubbled inside of you again; you hated him—not just for the past, but for the way he could still make you feel. The bridge door hissed open, and a woman entered. She had the kind of confidence that came from being both good at her job and knowing it. Her eyes immediately found Jod, the faintest of smiles curving her lips.
“Captain,” she said smoothly, ignoring you entirely. “The cargo is accounted for and secured. Credits, jewels, a few relics—enough to turn heads.”
“So definitely not your ship; otherwise you’d know what you’re carrying,” you said, eyeing Jod sceptically.
“I never said it was. And thank you, Verya,” Jod replied with a smirk. Just as you opened your mouth to retort, she cut you off.
“It doesn’t matter who the ship belonged to. What matters is that it’s ours now, and we need to stay ahead of anyone who thinks otherwise.” Her gaze flicked to you briefly, as if measuring whether you were worth her time. Apparently deciding you weren’t, she turned back to Jod. “Anyway, we found it.”
Verya handed him a rolled parchment, her movements deliberate. Jod unrolled it carefully, the fragile paper crackling in the quiet. It was a map—an old one, by the look of it.
“What is it?” you asked, leaning in despite yourself.
“It’s a map,” Jod said flatly.
“I can see that,” you shot back, your tone sharp. “What’s it for?”
“It leads to a planet,” Verya answered before Jod had the chance, her voice steady but laced with excitement. “The stories say it’s filled with treasure. Enough to make someone the richest person in the galaxy.”
“Great. So you’re chasing a legend?”
“I’m chasing an opportunity,” Jod countered, his smirk returning, though this time there was an edge to it.
“An opportunity to do what? Get yourselves killed?” you asked, your tone heavy with scepticism.
“Some risks are worth taking,” Verya interjected, her gaze flicking back to Jod. “Especially when the reward is this big.”
“And what’s the plan?” you pressed, forcing your voice to stay even. “Hope no one else figures out what you’re carrying.”
“Oh, they already know.” Jod’s tone was maddeningly casual. “That’s why you’re here—to make sure we don’t fall apart before we get there.”
“Great. So you’ve got a massive amount of treasure in the hold, a map everyone in the galaxy would kill for, and no real plan. Sounds solid.” You clenched your jaw and pinched the bridge of your nose, resisting the urge to throttle him.
“Don’t worry. The captain knows what he’s doing,” Verya said, placing her hand on Jod’s bicep with an ease that grated on you.
“That’s debatable,” you muttered, shooting her a glare before glancing pointedly at her hand, then back to her eyes.
“I always figure it out, Sunshine. You should know that by now,” Jod said, his chuckle low and infuriatingly self-assured. His gaze lingered on you, filled with amusement.

The Housewarming Gift (A Sonic Prime Fanfic) - Chapter 1
(Decided to cross post the Housewarming Gift chapters I’ve written so far on tumblr. Hope you guys like it!)
The Grim was a quiet place.
No commotion from an overcrowded city, no roar of crashing waves, no screeches from any wildlife,
No noise, save for a gentle wind that blew every once in a while.
Just the way he liked it.
After all, no noise meant no people, and no people meant no one to hurt him. No one who would corner him in an alleyway to beat him up, no one who would laugh as they stole his stuff and destroyed it just to see his reaction, no crowds who would whisper horrible things about him under their breath, just because he was different, just to feel a little better about themselves in that horrible city…
Zap!
Nine shot up, startled. The circuit board he was working on was letting off sparks where he accidentally broke a connection in the wrong place. Already, one of the alphas (alpha knuckles, it looked like) was working to stomp out the tiny fire that started when one of the sparks landed on some papers on the floor. “ Well, that was stupid…”
Ever since that final battle for the fate of the shatterverse, and the departure of everyone to their shatterspaces after making a promise to leave Nine alone, he had a lot of time on hands, and created many useful inventions since then. Even without the use of the paradox prism shards, there was still enough residual energy in the Grim to make the place more livable. While it wasn’t the paradise Nine initially envisioned, it was a home, and that was much more than he could say about his old place in New Yoke with those enforcer robots breathing down his neck. So far, he had created a plumbing system utilizing a huge lake he found a few miles away and a water purifier, a biosynthesizer so that he could make his own food (as a backup, he had a ton of canned food and drinks he stole from New Yoke), and some solar panels so that he wouldn’t have to worry about running out of power for everything. At the moment, he was working on creating a better defense system for his base after a lot of it was destroyed in that battle, at least until that circuit board got fried.
“Note to self, make a fireproof mat. And maybe some fire extinguishers while I’m at it…” Nine grumbled as he opened the door to the lab and ventured into the storage area.
Between the hundreds of smashed grim robots and the remains of the chaos council’s machines, there was no shortage of spare parts for Nine to use to his whim. If he recalled correctly, there was a similar circuit board right in the chest cavity of what remained of that old grim birdie robot-
BEEP BEEP BEEP!
Nine jumped, and then bolted back towards the lab. While the defense system wasn’t done yet, he did manage to finish making a forcefield around the base, as well as a radar system for potential threats.
And right now, its alarm was going off.
“Computer, show what the radar is indicating!” The screen lit up accordingly, and Nine ran up to the controls to shoot a laser at the threat if necessary.
On the screen, everything seemed normal outside at first glance. The sky was still a dark blue crossed with green where the auroras were active, and periodically dotted with a few stars in some spots. Only, one of them seemed to shine brighter than the others…
Uh oh.
The “star” shined even brighter, and the sky around it seemed to shimmer for a moment, kind of like how it was…before a portal to the void was opened.
“ShootShootSHOOT…!” Nine quickly slammed a button on his console to activate the forcefield so that the fortress would be protected, and then braced himself for a tear to appear in the sky again to rip apart the shatterspace, or a portal with the chaos council coming through to destroy him once and for all, or the ship with all of the shatterspace variants coming to mount an assault on his home again, because why the heck would they actually keep that promise to leave him alone in the grim after they attacked him, after he attacked them-
…Boom!
Out of that shimmering part of the sky, something small appeared and started falling. Something small, round, and metal that gleamed as it plummeted to the surface until it crashed with a distant noise.
Nine opened his eyes. That…wasn’t a robot. At least, it didn’t look like one. It more closely resembled some sort of capsule, with a strange plaque engraved on its surface. “ What…is that??” Nine wondered, still a little shaken. “Even if it doesn’t look like a robot, it could still be some sort of trap, maybe a robot in disguise or a bomb or SOMETHING”. Nine muttered. He began to pace around, his finger hovering over the button to activate the metal tails out of habit. “Whatever it is… I won’t let anything destroy my home .”. Nine pushed a button on the console to summon some of the alpha robots, and within seconds Alpha Sonic, Amy, and Birdie showed up and lined up in front of Nine. “Alphas, go to where that capsule crashed and scan it to see if it’s hiding anything. Report that data to the main computer.” The robots each did a quick salute and then flew off.
After a couple of minutes, the alpha robots reached the site of the crash. Nine watched the screen as they started to investigate the capsule, with alpha Birdie picking it up with their metallic talons and flying up a foot while alpha Amy and Sonic scanned it. “Ok, so it didn’t explode when you touched it, that still doesn’t mean it’s not some kind of trap. It’s gotta be something bad.” Nine was repeating this to himself as he looked, until the computer lit up with a new alert. “The scanner indicates that the inside of this capsule contains…uh…” It contained..a bunch of random stuff. The x-rays only showed vague outlines, but there were no mechanical parts in the walls or in the interior, just a mix of cloth bundles, wooden boxes, metal cans, what looked like a pole with something tied to it?
“....Maybe I should take a closer look.” Nine mumbled, pushing some more buttons on the console. “Alphas, bring the capsule into the hangar room.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nine landed a few feet away from the capsule, where the alpha robots were just standing around staring into space after bringing it in. Scanning it with his own scanner brought the same results as before: not a robot or a bomb. “...How the heck did this get here in the first place? Sonic better not have broken the prism again…”. He walked slowly around the capsule until he noticed something shine in the corner of his eye. “Oh right, there was some sort of plaque on the surface. Let’s see…”. Alpha Amy tipped over the capsule until the plaque was fully visible, and Nine began reading it.
“Dear Nine,
This letter is from the members of the shatterspaces who participated in the battle for the paradox prism (Except the chaos council, good riddance to them)
Reading that, Nine felt an immediate flash of anger. “Those guys?! They wanted to play one last trick on me, didn’t they!” For a moment he had an urge to order the alphas to blow it to bits, or take the capsule apart himself with his metal tails, but something made him stop for a moment. Inhale…Exhale… “Calm down Nine, you might as well read the rest before destroying this.” He started reading the plaque again.
“We understand if you don’t care, but each of us were able to return to our homes. With the chaos council gone for good this time, we in New Yoke are actually making some progress in getting this city back to the peaceful green place it used to be”
Me crew managed to get back to the seas of No Place in one piece as well, and we’re workin on cleaning up as well. With Black Rose as the new captain, this ship has never been heartier.
Us folks in the Boscage were able to get back, and we were able to finally finish fixing the damage from that last attack. However, it was sad saying goodbye to everyone else, especially my fellow Roses…but then something amazing happened.
So, it turns out that when those dunderheads of the chaos council attacked our homes back then, they left their communicators behind. Even with the portals closed, they still managed to work. That means that we were able to talk to each other again!
It was mighty fine to catch up with everyone! But the more we talked, the more we realized that there was something weighing on all of our minds after that final battle two weeks ago.
It was a month on our end, but yeah, you get the point. After that final battle, we all made a promise to Sonic to let you live in the Grim in peace, and never bother you again. Don’t worry, none of us intend on breaking that promise.
But, after a long time to think and reflect, we realized that it didn’t feel good to just leave you behind like that. We know that’s what you wanted, and we know this is kind of selfish of us, but in the end a lot of us wanted a chance to apologize to you. There was a ton of residual shard energy left behind by all those portals even after the prism was stabilized, meaning that each of us in the shatterspaces had a way to at least pass stuff to each other, even if we can’t see each other in person.
We aren’t gonna visit ye in the Grim, just getting that out of the way. We know ye hate us, and we don’t blame ya. But, we all decided to pitch in and make this capsule. Because what’s a new home without a housewarming gift?
Each one of us put a present in this capsule before sending it to the next shatterspace, and by the time you’re reading this, it probably crashed somewhere in the Grim.
You are free to do whatever you want with this capsule and its contents. If you wish to destroy it, along with this plaque, go right ahead. We won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do . At the end of the day, it’s your choice.
The end of the plaque was engraved with a whole bunch of names. The Roses, Dread, Sails, Catfish, Batten, Commander Rouge and Renegade Knucks, the rest of the resistance, even the scavengers. Nine was silent after reading the whole thing.
“ Theyactually think I buy this? That they just felt bad for me, the guy that nearly destroyed them, their homes, and nearly all of reality? Are they serious?!”
The more he thought about it, the more furious he became. His ears flattened and he started growling.
“Did they actually think I’d accept this, after EVERYTHING that happened?! Why would they start caring now? Why’d they think I’D believe in them after they wanted to kill me? Of course they’d start caring after everything was over, after they got to go back to their homes all safe and stable, after Sonic-”
Nine stopped. His breath hitched for a second. Thinking about Sonic still hurt, even after all was said and done. He…helped everyone. Sonic helped everyone grow and develop in the short time he knew them, including Nine, even if he didn’t realize it. Even though he hurt him, Sonic apologized, no one had ever apologized…
There was no way they all actually cared about him. The bruise he got from that punch by Renegade Knucks took a long time to heal, and he still woke up in a cold sweat thinking about those attacks trying to break his barrier. He wasn’t like the Roses, he couldn’t become fast friends with his own variants, he nearly blew those two up for crying out loud.
Nine realized that he had started pacing again, and sat down in a nearby swivel chair. He turned to a nearby robot, Alpha Rouge, who had started organizing some spare parts the other robots had brought in the day before. “What do you think I should do with this?” The robot turned to look at him and tilted its head for a second at the question, then went right back to working. It didn’t talk. None of them did. And Nine was ok with that.
Nine took a quick glance at the window, and realized that it was starting to get late. At the end of a “day” in the grim, the green light on the horizon died down, and the sky would begin to turn from a dark blue to almost blackish purple, with even more stars popping up. “I’ll figure out what to do with this thing tomorrow. Alphas, stand guard over it” He started flying towards the door. “We scanned it a bunch of times already, but just to be safe, if that capsule grows robot legs or something like that, shoot it on sight.” The alphas that gathered there all saluted as Nine went out the door and through the hallway towards his bedroom. “... Worse case scenario, I can just melt it down for scrap”.
