So my lovely friend @purpleangelsele and fellow mileven shipper and tumblr user posted this today 👇

and it really got me thinking about how mike isn't really a touchy feely person like she said. When we first meet mike in season 1 episode one, we see that he's a nerdy kid who cares about his friends and plays that nerdy DnD game, but when they depart they don't shake hands or do that weird handshake thing that I've seen people do today which makes sense cause their in the 80s but still. The way they say bye is just either saying something sarcastic or talking about other people or just saying bye or see you tomorrow which I think it's funny. Mike isn't touchy feely, he's that friend who will do a half hug or who would shake your shoulder or pat your shoulder as a greeting and that's understandable, his family isn't the most touchy feely either with the somewhat exception of his mother. He's definitely not a hugger when we first meet him, or one that would hold hands with you or anything like that.

Then . ....

We meet el 😁😁. Our darling sweet and innocent el whose already killed people by the time they meet her 🤭🤭. And eventually they fall in love but during the duration of their one week romantic friendship, we do see mike being touchy feely with el, like putting his watch around her wrist, grabbing her wrist while running away,being in close proximity with her, hugging her, holding hands with her, grabbing her and dragging her away, grabbing her shoulders out of desperation to see if she's OK, and finally the big one kissing her. Then of course she "dissappears" and definitely causes mike to gave PTSD that will most definitely stay with him the rest of his life. I'd even go as far to say that her disappearing is the most traumatic event in his life. Enter season 2 and mike is depressed and moody but he does seem a bit more touchy, not by much but just a bit, character development anyone? There's this talented AO3 author who made a fic about how mike begins to show more affection after el dissapears and made a good point in showing that El was the one who helped him open up a bit (if you want the name of the fic please comment in the comment area and I will share it with you). I told @purpleangelsele that mike is like a moody little soft puppy when it comes to el, because nothing can shake his mean moodiness but when it comes to her, he just melts, and is really soft with her, after season 1 he never yells at her, or raises his voice, he's always soft and protective with her, quite clingy but it's justified. We only see this with el and I love that, I genuinely do believe that El is the only to fully experience and witness Mike's soft side because with her he doesn't want to be the leader of the party or the wheelers middle child, he just wants to be her mike who she loves, her mike who just wants to protect her from everything. My friend sel also made a good point about mike letting el be very touchy feely with him in season 3, clinging to him like a koala which is quite adorable, and he let's her do that. Mike strikes me as someone who wasn't exposed to that much physical affection growing up, aside from his mother and maybe Nancy when he was little but I'm not sure. So someone showing him so much love and affection must be kinda shocking to him because it's something he hasn't felt much. At the beginning of season 1 I doubt mike would have let one of his buddies or even a girl cling onto him like that, he'd probably push em off and get annoyed, but with el it's different. In fact he wants her to show him affection, I'm sure he definitely enjoys and even craves it, because el gives him all the love attention and affection he's always wanted and was somewhat deprived of. And we see mike giving el affection too, he's very protective of her and I'd say el is the person he's touched most in his life in a physical intimate way (not that way you creeps). We do know that holding hands and putting their foreheads together seems to be their signature go to acts of affection. Mike definitely enjoys kissing her and vice versa but I think hugging, holding hands and pushing their foreheads together is what they enjoy most.

I don't think it's a revolutionary take on this site to point out that the Walter guy from Breaking Bad isn't exactly a saint. Sexual assault, blowing up several buildings, manipulating most of the people around him, the list goes on...

That having been said, I still get very annoyed by Breaking Bad fans who cannot fathom the concept of him having vaguely redeeming qualities. Like I swear to god, they need to read EVERY SINGLE decent thing he does in the least favorable light imaginable.

Walt goes to rescue Jesse from the slums - "It's akshually because his pride is insulted by Jesse being in such a place."

Walt risks his life and ruins his entire relationship with Gus to save Jesse - "Walt only did this to calm his own guilt!!"

Walt offers Jack all 80 million dollars of his money to save Hank - "It was akshually just to preserve his self-image as a family man, his ego couldn't handle anything else!!!"

You could do the exact same shit with Jesse or Mike, but because they're the fanbases 'UwU softboys' they escape this treatment.

And NO, for the record, this does not mean i think every character in Breaking Bad is on the same level morally. Waltuh's absolutely a darker shade of grey, it's just worth remembering that there is more to the guy than just 'evil super abuser who consistently hates everyone other than himself".

1: Elizabeth Afton. It’s SO clear to see that the girl was a victim of blatant neglect, emotional abuse, and likely physical beating given the graphic novels as well. People who characterize her as a spoiled brat who William loved and treated like a princess drive me fucking mad. God forbid an abuse victim have a fawn reflex to their abuser and also be a small child with small child behaviors I guess. And people can’t even (though they do try to) pull the fucking “oh well she’s just so badly written” with Liz. A) none of the Aftons are written at all, B) Liz is THE most explored of the Afton kids. The series digs into her childhood and her psychology in the novels, much more than any canon material does for Michael. Elizabeth is written fine, y’all are just misogynists who are weird as fuck about abuse being depicted in more than one way.

7: If I have to see one more piece of DCA x abused!y/n mermaid mafia au tentacle porn art on my dash I think that’ll be the last straw for me. I have every tag related to them blocked. Which sucks because they’re fine characters! They’re cool! I just can’t STAND the fanon.

24: Michael’s abuse of the crying child. People will jump through literally every hoop you could POSSIBLY imagine to say it’s not abuse, the word abuse is too strong, Michael’s not and never was an abuser, and it’s such bullshit. You want to like a redeemed guy but can’t admit he did anything to be redeemed from. Locking your little sibling in rooms? Intentionally tormenting and scaring them? Grabbing and dragging them around like Mike does at the party with his friends? Every decision he made leading up to the bite? That is ALL sibling abuse made worse by the fact that Mike seems to be, during those 5 days, his brother’s primary caretaker, a role he uses and abuses the power of to abuse his brother. If you can’t accept that I don’t truly believe you actually like Michael so much as you like the 2018 gacha softboy version of him who can do no wrong and was the victim all the time.

I think a lot of people aren't willing to admit that since Steve barely exists as an individual character anymore, that a lot of his popularity is down to fanon and nostalgia, particularly for season 2 Steve. And I say this as someone who likes him. Most of the characters have become characters that barely function on their own, El is probably the only exception, but I think it's especially evident with Steve because they did so little to establish who he is after 'changing'.

He's whatever the group need every season because he has no real motivation to be involved anymore. Jonathan needs to protect Will. Nancy is dating Jonathan and wants to protect Mike and be an investigative journalist. Dustin, Lucas and Mike want to protect Will and El. El was born into this mess and has to save the world every 2 minutes. Hopper is the chief who adopted El so has to be involved. Joyce has to protect Will and now Hopper. Will is a victim. Billy was dragged into it just like Max and they both paid the price. Eddie was wanted and had to clear his name. Robin is an extention of Steve so also has no real reason other than being nice to be involved.

Every one else is tied to someone in some way making them directly involved. Steve has Dustin and literally his ex. He didn't have a friend or family member involved in S1. He just happened to stumble across what was going on and he could have ran away but didn't. Steve is involved because he feels responsible for knowing something is going on and wants to be the hero.

This all makes him a character more like molding clay they can just change to fit the plot. Okay so he became a more caring guy after some character development? Cool good. Now what? Oh he makes a friend and doesn't go to college so he can be around to deal with the Russian base? What's that Nancy is having relationship problems and Steve just so happens to be desperate to find a girlfriend? And he ever so conveniently isn't over her like he said he was in S3? And he can swim like really well even though this wasn't mentioned at all? He was super popular but doesn't know Jason or Chrissy? His parents are happy him working a minimum wage job instead of helping him start a career like Steve mentioned his father would but making him work for him?

Steve is there to look good and almost die but not. He's now a piece of cheese on a string teasing the audience because he's a fan favourite but when you look at him there really isn't much there anymore. Don't even get me started on uwu softboy fanon Steve because that isn't canon at all but general fanon Steve is canon Steve with some actual care. So when people cry "why don't you say this stuff about Steve!? He does shit too!" Does he? Or is he just there to be beat up by the narrative and have a cool moment?

And ooooh I can always get behind a little exploration in fic with body image issues and them working through it in a sweet and sexy way. Might have to incorporate into something. Maybe in the one where they're in an early relationship. There is a theme throughout it of Will being very very shy at the beginning to take his clothes off in front of Mike and how they get more and more comfortable with each other, with Will especially being bashful about Mike liking his particular assets and not knowing how to respond to it since they both are chock full of body and self esteem issues and it's fun having them work through it to really really good ends... This fits in the themes pretty seamlessly.

Those little shits in season one literally made Mike jump off a cliff while holding Dustin at knife point. Jason whipped up a vigilante mob and got himself a gun at the drop of a hat. Brenner kidnaps and tortures children. Henry is a literal serial killer before anyone ever interferes with the trajectory of his life.

stranger things really screwed the pooch by never having a scene where all the siblings pairs (Mike and Nancy, Will and Jonathan, Lucas and Erica, Max and Billy, and Steve and Dustin) are having 5 simultaneous but separate, high volume arguments, while El and Robin just 👁👁 👁👁

(Steve and Dustin started in the only child group but they set each other off, and they lost their high ground spectacularly)

Steve is a (barely) reformed mean girl. His instinct is still going to be to bite back meaner. We literally see it as recently as season 4 when Dustin is getting too close to the bone, Steve goes too mean. He immediately cops to it and apologizes (because, reforming) but that's still how he's wired.

His skin is thick, his mouth is mean. Steve is a bitch (and I like him so much)

Deep Dive #5: James Watson!

(Note: Unlike previous installments, this character is primarily an OC. This is NOT canon!)

hey fuckos and bitches it's me. idk why I still keep making these but hey here we are.

so, actually, for this one we gotta go back farther than his creation. Allllll the way back to the very first Non-Canon AU I made, the DID AU. Before you murder me, it will Never see the light of day (it was literally Michael angst hour for no reason and as a young lad I was like "heeheehoo d.i.d. funnie" but hey I learned from my mistakes yee)

Back then, in the before times, I was solidly in the bandwagon that "tormentors EVIL" and so, because I wanted to be original, I wanted to create new tormentors to torment Mike with. I didn't want to use the regular Frederick, Mark, and Simon. Bleh, Boring!!!!

So I created the Evil Tormentors! I named them Trevor, Alex, and Kaden.

For this one, we'll be focusing on Kaden. He was the Bonnie Mask Bully and idk why but he handcuffed Michael to a chair. While Trevor and Alex murdered Evan (known as Chris). Fun times lol.

Anyway, I made my Percy Jackson AU and I decided I wanted Michael to have good pals for once.

So, as one does, I created a second version of the Tormentors. One that was dedicated to Evil and one dedicated to Good.

James was a part of that. Wowww!! His name was almost Andrew, actually.

I was originally just going to have them be Michael's previous friends, but...

James was largely the same as he is now. A dorky, gay disaster so deep in denial he's having tea in Narnia.

Y'know, while I was creating the tormentors I debated on having all of them date Michael or just one of them. It was a difficult decision, but I decided to have him date just one. It was either between Matthew or James, but I picked James just because I hadn't seen anyone on YouTube ship Mike with Bonnie Mask.

Just think... It could've been Michael x Matthew...

Anyway, I got so attached to James and the rest I decided to kill the Evil Tormentors off. They don't appear again EVER.

Then I made the Old AU, and James was actually Nightmare Bonnie. He didn't do much, but he and Michael actually had a sort of rivalry.

Yadda yadda yadda, fuck the Old AU, blah blah blah. Figment AU came around and I rewrote James' story. That was actually where I got the idea for James to drown and possess his mask. Figment James looked like:

This is... Old. And ew. This was in my amongus oc phase so obviously this isn't me now... I've grown...

When I rewrote the Old AU to make my current AU, I killed off Fritz Smith (who previously was separate from Michael and DATED HIM AHH-) and replaced him with James :)

Instead of a ditzy softboy, James became a manipulative, jealous bitch not afraid to get his hands dirty. But still, he's a twink femboy. I don't know how that happened but just look at him and tell me he's not a TWINK FEMBOY???? you can't. I don't make the rules.

I don't have any art of present James, which is frankly a crime, but this is what Past!James looks like now:

Thoughts on Jamie Johnson 5x05

SPOILERS BELOW

So per the suggestion from tkstrand, I spent last weekend basically binging through all of Jamie Johnson. And as was promised, I was shocked at the levity and surprising depth that does make it tonally similar to Andi Mack.

At some point, there needs to be a discussion on the entire series up to this point, since I assume most of us are just now watching it. Isn’t Jethro just the nastiest little shit you’ve ever seen? Yes, Indira is just lovely. No, I don’t know why Zoe is such a hater! While I am a little off put by the seemingly constant ensemble changes from season to season (why get invested in Delliot when half of it’s just gonna be gone next season?), the series is still a good watch during these wild times.

Previously on JJ, our titular character finally figures out his dad ain’t shit, realizes the good things he does have going for him following the accident, and resolves to make it back to the top. That really doesn’t have much too much bearing on this episode, which boils down to three things: Jamie’s Mom and Mike guilt-tripping and securing the bag, Alba’s stress concerning Elliot impacting her game, and of course, Delliot.

I am glad that we got another episode focusing on Alba. Last season/series, it seemed like most of the character development of her trio went to Eric and most of the screentime went to Freddie (which I will not complain about too much. He’s like a likable Cousin Oliver!). Alba being insecure about her place in her new home as well as being pissed at Elliot’s ungrateful attitude is already tew much. Sprinkle in Dillon’s little brother, who I still definitely don’t trust, shouting at Alba all day from the sidelines and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. I’m glad that following the team’s loss, she was able to make up with her mother and Elliot apologized.

On Delliot, can I just say: YES. I was pretty shocked at the extent Dillon was literally following this kid around all day. Elliot showed up and pretty much from then on was living in his head rent free. He not-so-subtly mentioned him to Zoe twice! He not-so-subtly checked him out, then followed him to the refreshment area! I mean, I’d be fascinated too. Elliot seems to be the most memorable character that comes to mind in the couldn’t-give-a-shit-about-football department, and that obviously fascinates Dillon.

Speaking on the ever present Andi Mack comparison, while Dillon may be TJ to a T (although Dillon has maintained some of his edge, TJ’s basically a softboi), Elliot is no Cyrus Goodman. He seems to be quite assured of who he is and his interests. Of course, clearly he can work on his attitude and he may be holding himself back on how much he really could like football.

Finally, the lead up to the last scene seemed a little confusing to me, Zoe tells Dillon that Elliot is in fact not Ruby’s boyfriend per her conversation with Ruby. She also tells him that he’s gay. How Dillon did not put together that Ruby told Zoe this so Ruby is likely not interested in Elliot, I have no idea. I think he just heard “gay” and subconsciously immediately tried to sever Ruby/Elliot so he can get to work (haha). 

But alas, now Ruby thinks Dillon’s a homophobe, and soon Elliot will too. Oh snap. Let’s see where things go next week!

Speaking of posh little rich kids what about some Edwardian boarding school and Stan is draped on the steps of some 1000 year old building covered in ivy and Bill runs up to him like “Staaaaanley you said you were going to watch me and the lads play rugby,”

And Stan not looking up from his dissertation on Anglo Saxon etymology says “I am watching you play rugby William.”

And Bill laughs and takes Stan’s book and holds it out his reach as he hops up and down, and it’s most unbecoming for a boy of gentle birth. 

And Stan is horrified because Bill is dirty and covered in mud and he’s going to ruin his book! And he trips over his feet to get his book back and he falls into Bill’s chest and he scrambles to untangle himself because he doesn’t want to get dirty thank you! But it’s too late, and Bill’s dirt got on his school uniform and he glares adorably at Bill.

“Give it back, please,” he holds out his hand expectantly.

“Stanley, you have to stop being so afraid of getting dirty,” Bill says all quiet and sad. He just wanted Stan to watch him play rugby so he could show off his... rugby skills. I don’t know anything about rugby sis. Maybe Bill wishes Stan would actually play rugby with them, but we all know that’s a crapshoot.

To be fair, “Richard” and “Edward” would spend the entire match trying to rub mud all over Stan, so we see why Stan wants nothing to do with that.

And Stan writes letters back home about that “awful Denbrough boy,” who tempts him with his wicked affectation and predilection toward, gasp, fun and games. And Stan’s mom writes back like “Good, he’s a ruffian masquerading as an educated English landowner anyway.”

And basically it’s like good student Stan being wooed by bad boy Bill, but make it British accent.

But I mean, if we’re Going there, I have to imagine that most of the students aren’t going to want to associate with Stan, or Mike either for that matter. So that does track with softboy Bill at least. 

Stan would very much be like “Why do you want to be seen with the likes of me,” and Bill would just frown and say “Well why not?”

And Richie would say “He did kill Christ, or so my parents say.” 

“And what do you say?” Stan asks cautiously, verging on vulnerability, and Bill catches it, and it looks very wrong on the otherwise self assured Stan.

Richie would chuckle. “What do I say? I say you’d have to be awfully old, mate. Millennia old. Are you hiding something from us old boy?”

And Stan would sneer and say “Quite right. I’m not that old. Perhaps you could write my father and ask him what he knows about it?” 

And Richie would laugh uproariously and clap Stan on the back hard and say “I like him the scrawny fellow!” And well that’s how Richie and Stan become best friends.

And it means that Bill sees him more, but he feels like Stan is always just out of reach from him, emotionally speaking. Richie constantly teases Stan, makes crude jokes, and Stan just shakes his head balefully, but he always stares at Richie like he hung the moon, and Bill wants to know what he can do or say to get Stan to look at him like that.

Oof and then we’d have to have an entire plot about Bill realizing he likes boys and coming to terms with that, and the implications of that in the I guess 20s Maybe 1910s? Something to think about of course.
