Sleep doesn’t grace you with her presence that night, instead offering a series of scenarios of what could be happening a few hallways down.

Elain’s back two days later, a goofy grin spread across her cheeks and a line of hickeys branding the side of her neck in a way that makes your stomach turn. It takes everything in you to hide the jealously, to smooth over the embarrassment of ever possibly thinking that Azriel would go for you when he had a blushing Archeron hanging off his arm. “I take it that it went well.”

“More than well,” Elain confessed, dressed in a pale shade of green with ivy’s laced into the thin sleeves. “It was perfect—everything was perfect thanks to you.” She continues on, divulging naughty details and devastating descriptions of Azriel’s fingers grazing at bare skin, the tickle of his hair against her cheek, the warmth radiating from his body when the nights chill became too much. “I’d always heard whispers about the males of Autumn but you guys really weren’t joking,” Your head tilts to the side at that certain detail, brow quirking and your spoon halts its swirling about the teacup. “Fire really does run through their veins.”

“Autumn males?” Your hair flicks behind your shoulder with the wild way you turn to face her, arms crossed loosely over your chest. “You were with Lucien last night?”

Elain nods with a knowing smile growing at the corner of full lips, the tulle of her dress shifting obnoxiously when she takes a seat on your bed.

“I guess I just assumed you’d be with Azriel.”

“Not quite my type,” She replies wistfully, gaze far away as if she were reminiscing on the night before and the male involved. “He’s yours though,” It’s not a question but a statement, thrown out there as if it were a known fact amongst others and you were the last to be let in. “—you like him.”

The teacup pressed to your lips muffles the words but Elain still understands perfectly clear. “”He’s my friend.”

“Friends don’t really look at friends the way he looks at you.” You swallow audibly, attempting to hide your interest and yet it’s the quick flick of your eyes that gives you away. “It’s exactly as you said the other night,” Elain raises from the bed, a gentle hand trailing up your arm the same way you’d done to her. “Love always begins in the eyes. Just look at him—really look at him and see what’s right in front of you.”

Your hands tremble in your lap and for the first time in a very long while, it was you that felt like the blushing virgin searching for answers and not knowing where to look. “I don’t think I’m capable of handling what I might find.”

“You are a woman,” Elain softly answers. “You’re capable of anything.”

Soft morning light filtered through pale yellow curtains, illuminating the room with a warm and cozy glow. The sounds of birds chirping and small waves reaching the shore filled the room through the half open window, along with what seems to be quiet snoring… 

You’re slowly coming to your senses, peeling your heavy eyes open and becoming increasingly aware of the presence behind you. Strong arms are wrapped tight around your frame, a face burrowed into your neck and a solid chest pressed against your back. 

There's a man spooning you. 

The second thing you start to notice are the cream colored sheets, silky material that feels smooth against your skin. The blanket encompassing you is soft, a thick yet breathable material, and the pillows are fluffed, surprisingly comfortable with cases that match the rest of the set perfectly. It was strange, the motels you usually stayed at were more...budget friendly. This seemed like bedding straight out of a fairytale, like you'd taken them directly out of somebody's royal quarters. Besides, you tend to carry your own pillowcase with you, a force of habit you never broke out of. Which leads you to another conclusion…

This isn’t your bed. 

Your eyes fly open and you let out a startled gasp, now wide awake as your heart thumps against your chest frantically. The arm around you tightens, holding you more securely as the owner lets out a low groan. "Sweetheart, you okay?" he asks, voice still groggy and laced with sleep.

You freeze for a moment, unsure of how to go from here. You’re in an unfamiliar (and very fancy) hotel room by what sounds like a beach, with a stranger who’s spooning you and calling you sweetheart.

Strange dream.

You decide playing along is best until you can figure out what exactly is going on, or until you wake up, so you clear your throat before responding. “Yeah just need to um, use the bathroom.”

He hums in response, giving you one final squeeze and pressing a soft kiss to your neck before he unwraps himself, prompting you to release a subtle sigh of relief. You carefully untangle yourself from the blankets, taking a moment to stretch before turning back to look at your mystery man.

He’s gorgeous.

His eyes are closed and he's laying on his back, one arm draped over his stomach atop the blankets, and the other laid out onto the side of the bed you were sleeping on, as if he were still trying to reach for you. You take a moment to admire the soft lines of his face, faint freckles adorning his smooth skin if you looked close enough. You can feel something deep within you aching to recognize him, but your mind was pulling blanks.

Before he could catch you staring, you quietly pad over to the bathroom and shut the door. You brace your hands against the sink and take a moment to collect yourself, taking a deep breath in and out, when you see something out of the corner of your eye. It's a polaroid picture with what seems to be you. Well, you and your mystery guy. The picture was taken on the sand, the sunset a beautiful mix of pink and orange hues that were acting as a gorgeous background to a selfie; you were seemingly holding the camera up as far out as you could, a bright smile on your face while he held you from behind. But instead of looking at the camera, he looks at you — fondness and adoration coating his pretty green eyes.

You stared at the picture hard, trying to come up with some reason as to why your brain was insistent on making this dream so specific. So realistic.

Still nothing.

Frustration was beginning to pool in your gut. You needed answers, and you were determined to get them.

After freshening up a little, you slowly open the bathroom door. Peeking your head out first, you notice he's still sleeping, so you begin looking for more clues. You quietly make your way over to a black duffle bag that looks unfamiliar to you, assuming it's his, and unzip it. The first thing that greets you is an oversized baby blue sweater that appears to be handmade. The material is soft, and it looks well worn. Something compels you to take it out of the bag. You bring it up to your nose and inhale it's scent, a sense of relief and comfort washing over you almost immediately....

Suddenly, you're inside a warehouse. You're sprawled across the cold hard floor, your head throbbing and a nasty slash across your leg. You press a shaking hand down onto the wound, an involuntary whimper falling from your lips as you try to tamp the blood spilling from your thigh. You can hear shouting somewhere in the distance, distressed calls of your name and Dean's. You try to lift your head but it's heavy, like a fishbowl full of water you're too tired to carry. Instead you turn your head slowly against the floor, vision blurring for a moment as your eyes land on—

"It's a bit early to be stealing my sweaters already isn't it?"

You nearly jump out of your skin and spin around, facing the handsome stranger. He's sitting up, legs swung over the side of the bed. He chuckles softly and rubs the sleep out of his eyes before getting up and making his way over to you, stopping once he's standing directly in front of you. He makes a gesture towards the sweater and you instinctively hand it over to him. He shakes it out gently before bringing it over your head, helping you put your arms through and letting it settle over you. He then pulls you in by the waist, your hands flying up to his arms to stabilize yourself. "They always look better on you anyway." He muses, giving your cheek a tender peck before heading into the bathroom to freshen up himself.

What the hell is going on?

You bring your fingers up to rub at your temples, a slight headache starting to brew. You make your way over to the dresser to try and sneak a peak at his wallet, but it's not there. You actually don't see your own bag anywhere, and you're more confused than ever. No phones, no computers, no IDs, nothing that can give you any semblance of a clue as to what is happening. You don't realize how long you've been stewing in your own panic until he steps out of the bathroom, looking more awake and alert than when he stepped inside.

His brows furrow slightly as he takes in your slightly distressed appearance, standing in the middle of the room with your hands hovering in the air and your breaths coming out in short pants as you try to understand what's going on. "Whoa hey now, you alright honey?"

Honey. Sweetheart.

You close your eyes and try to take a few deep breaths, attempting to calm yourself. You flinch slightly when his arms wrap around you and bring you in close, but you immediately burrow yourself into his warmth like it's second nature, hiding your face in the crook of his neck and breathing in his scent. He rubs his arm up and down your back in soothing circular motions, rocking you side to side subtly as he does so. He knows exactly how to calm you down.

Clearly, he knows you. Why can't you remember him?

When you finally pull away to look up at him, he still looks worried. Your instinct reaction is to reassure him, to wipe that sad look off his beautiful face. "Sorry, i'm fine. Weird dream is all." You whisper, clearing your throat and offering a small grin—trying to convince yourself just as much as him that you're alright. He brings a hand up to gently cradle your jaw, he presses gentle kisses to your cheeks one at a time, then your forehead, before capturing your lips in a sweet morning kiss. You melt into it, letting your head fall into his hand as you breathe him in.

When you finally part he rests his forehead against yours, rubbing his hands up and down your arms to ground you, and it was working. You can't decide if that makes things better or worse. He presses a kiss to your temple before pulling back to look at you. "What's up? You can talk to me."

—talk to me! Please!

You felt a hand patting your cheek urgently, trying to grasp your attention. Your bleary eyes struggled to focus on the figure above you, it was a mere shadow in your haze. You hear another voice in the background, calling Dean's name just as frantically. You let out a small sound of distress at not being able to see him. Your head was pounding, your thigh still burning and you just needed to see—

"Hey, you with me? You seem a little spacey today." He murmurs, bringing a hand back up to your cheek so he could level your eyes with his. You shake your head softly, bringing your hands up to his chest and playing with the button of the thermal he was wearing. "Yeah, just a little out of it today, I guess." you reply, pressing a soft kiss to his chest in reassurance. "I'm alright baby, probably just need to eat something." you smiled up softly at him, hoping to ease his worry. And it seemed to work.

He grins, unable to resist placing another peck to your forehead. "Alright, we should probably head downstairs soon while they still have breakfast. Or do you prefer lunch? The pesto egg wrap we tried yesterday was actually pretty good." his voice remained soft, not wanting to add onto whatever it was you were experiencing. He wasn't completely clueless, but he wouldn't pry just yet. You'd tell him when you were ready, he knew that.

Except you didn't even know how to begin, but you knew any answers wouldn't be in this room, so you agreed to breakfast. The sooner the better. He kissed you one last time before pulling away to get dressed and face the day ahead, and you went to do the same.

notes: okay so, the moodboard made me think of like a light and fluffy vacation, yk somewhere by the beach, very soft very optimistic...but I myself am a pessimistic homebody who's never gone on a vacation lmfao 😭 I just hope this was somewhat nice to read, and not too confusing. Wordless chatter congregates around you - blended conversation from neighboring tables mixing into a cocktail of intelligible gossip. Akin to a second skin, your spine molds to the leather cushions uplifting your weary body. It's not a perfect fit. Stiff, almost plasticity compared to the soft, breathable material you're used to. You wouldn't expect some run of the mill bar to import real leather anyway.

Pardoned from the bite your work heels have on your ankles, you roll your foot lazily beneath the table - an empty glass invading your peripheral. It not every weekend you have time off, but on the rare occasion you are your job is still never done.

Your friend taps the rim of their glass, a sluggish smile plastered on their face.

"Y/n, my man! Mind pouring me another beer?"

Speechlessly, you grapple the glass slide across the table towards you Folding a napkin, you clean the its innards of any residue, motioning for one of the few unopened cans of beer left. Cracking the tap, you hold the glass at a perfect fourty-five degree angle as you pour.

You pause as it fills halfway, tilting the glass upright as you complete the process - a neat inch of foam setting at the top.

A round of applause commends your skill.

"That's amazing, Y/n! You're faster than some of bartenders here!"

"I know your new job is top secert and all, but you sure you aren't some bottle girl for some rich business people?"

They aren't entirely wrong with that assessment.

"Yeah! How did you get so good at this? You don't even drink!"

A serpent's tongue trails the length of your neck, talons hooked on the hem of your skirt as blackened feathers join the dance circumference around you. You aren't just a part of the party, you're the eye of the storm. The protect arm of a fallen angel hook around your waste, a snake mouthing at your jaw - lapping up spilled alcohol sprayed across your glowing skin.

"Sorry about the mess, Dove~" He hisses - throwing his head back to swallow the remaining filth at the bottom of his glass. It isn't nearly as sweet as it is when it has the taste of you as a chaser. Nor as filling.

"Do me a solid and pour another? Nobody does it quite like you. You got the magic touch, Dove!"

Charged by that special code word, the room erupts with chanting.

"ANOTHER ROUND!"

"ANOTHER ROUND!"

"ANOTHER ROUND!"

A single voice stands out from the crowd.

"Hey, Guys! Whoever gets the waiter to make a contract with them gets to drink the next one off Y/n's chest!"

All eyes point to you.

You shrug. "I'm game."

The entire room rumbles with energy matching an earthquake as your coworkers roar with victory.

"WOOHOOOO!"
