Avatar Yangchen's Favorite Foods
My winter break boredom combined with my chronic writing procrastination have combined to form Yangchen Thoughts at never before seen levels.
AKA, I was doing a bit of research into potential Air Nomad cuisine and suddenly found myself needing to know what Yangchen's favorite foods would be. So here we are.
Most of the foods listed will be primarily of Tibetan origin, considering that is the main cultural inspiration for the Air Nomads. However, because Yangchen spent a large portion of her life in different Earth Kingdom cities, there will be some dishes taken from other cultures as well. I will be providing links to as many recipes as possible! (Note: some of the recipes themselves are not vegetarian, but could easily be modified so to fit with the Air Nomads' vegetarian lifestyles).
Now, when it comes to food, Avatar Yangchen strikes me as someone who prioritizes function over flavor. Obviously she prefers her food to taste good, but she's more concerned with what said food can do for her, convenience-wise. She prefers foods that can be eaten on the go, snacked on while working, or downed relatively quickly. As well, she wants her food to be on the filling side, which lessens the amount of time she has to spend eating. She's quite pragmatic about her food. (Is this a good thing? I suppose that's up to you to decide). Finally, her cooking skills are pretty minimal, so most of her favorite dishes are quite simple to make.
Most of this post will be under a cut because, as per usual, I can never make anything short :)
Butter Tea
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ae1db99aa87e44ab3741ac5d4103b229/7cda5879d3f6940b-c4/s540x810/a19f8073cf84029edb3361193d1af15992254cfc.jpg)
This is a very traditional Tibetan drink, and it's one that Yangchen would have grown up drinking. It's actually mentioned in The Dawn of Yangchen! It's a drink she would find very comforting, as well as filling due to it being nearly half butter.
Breakfasts
Tomato Egg Soup
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/679ea9eea45c197ebe0bcffcba86ae88/7cda5879d3f6940b-61/s540x810/e94a01cb884104749372f6db1801f69cca84cbcd.jpg)
It's quite literally what it sounds like. This is a breakfast dish, probably very common in the Earth Kingdom and/or Fire Nation. It's simple to make, but hearty and warm.
Shom-Dae - Rice Pudding
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b87bb3d67a22a7d75c4b46b432ac1013/7cda5879d3f6940b-1e/s540x810/d93654a0de5bc4706dc56eff86ca6e5ca40c866f.jpg)
This is a rice pudding made with yogurt. It can be eaten with fruit as a filling breakfast, or sweetened to be made into a dessert. Yangchen doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, so she prefers this for her breakfast.
Snacks
Bhobi
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3ece3d6c98fea5795e9c2be8cef7c07a/7cda5879d3f6940b-a0/s540x810/b9a75af97a2e50a41bcb05f05250f34cfca62f1d.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/350584b788a94d204cade39f91210b6f/7cda5879d3f6940b-e0/s540x810/8b338ea837426a98fc1784ce7c5abe8c24020820.jpg)
This is basically a Tibetan burrito. A soft, thin flatbread wrapped around various fillings. Typically these can have anywhere from 3-5 different fillings, consisting of things such as stir-fried vegetables, noodles, eggs, you name it. Yangchen would absolutely be a fan of the versitility, and would likely make these to use up leftovers for a tasty snack.
Shogo Khatsa - Spicy Potatoes
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/98f5f7fb0fc1a501a97487db6ba38714/7cda5879d3f6940b-84/s540x810/b186f43c9b51b1fb1b2d6b287914c2fe936b7522.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ebcf4f90a6d874ec5f0860c590bcf441/7cda5879d3f6940b-0f/s540x810/33b060ce87265052ebdf6c55892acf9dd626a877.jpg)
As the name implies, this dish is made up of spicy potatoes. I think Yangchen would actually be a huge fan of spice, and as such would totally love these. She would probably also dip them in Sepen, which is a Tibetan tomato-based chili sauce.
Various Street Foods
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6240d8505699d6aa6bcfa75573692d37/7cda5879d3f6940b-6d/s540x810/da9717232ec31daae805924ad49d78eb164573a3.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/49ef68036072a0478bdba7d17bd50485/7cda5879d3f6940b-a5/s540x810/d2bd567c0e471e653416086322547cd1d80180ed.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f0687ce669402d940af12f897e5eee19/7cda5879d3f6940b-08/s540x810/ca6d37b2563eaf33c70c34101c3df8bff3c4b84e.jpg)
Yangchen would love trying local street foods at all the places she visits, but she has a few favorites. Fried tofu, spring rolls, and spicy cucumbers. They're all very easy on the go snacks.
Onion Tingmo
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fef68b073b3e183aa116cdb359af5cea/7cda5879d3f6940b-f5/s540x810/9ca66235d876f5fc8e1f2db5847a5387ffda0556.jpg)
This snack is definitely more of a comfort food. These are a type of steamed bun with green onions folded in, and I think these would be Yangchen’s guilty pleasure; the kind of food she could eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Meals
Tenchung - Lentil Soup
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/22211e60a20c62b80f737c19d6caefde/7cda5879d3f6940b-ee/s540x810/be5a5e8debf9f19fcf78b8c426db53bfb0322dba.jpg)
The Air Nomads would certainly be fans of lentils, considering their high protein and iron content. This is another very simple soup, but would be very comforting and nostalgic for Yangchen - as well as quite filling.
Mokthuk - Momo Soup
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/de162d0dff29ac43c38fe78cde545b6e/7cda5879d3f6940b-77/s540x810/d0783cb3ef8d9a66aec3f135b5f8ff9cab459155.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f816519f408b6ef514f92dea420488c4/7cda5879d3f6940b-d5/s540x810/18b5be2eccfbfa1d3a95c4be670bc42923323a82.jpg)
Momos are Tibetan dumplings, which Yangchen would enjoy eating on their own, but when added to a hearty soup the dish is called Mokthuk. As you're probably starting to figure out, I think Yangchen is a pretty big soup fan. Just like in the attached video, Yangchen would load her soup up with chili oil for added spice.
Pishi - Tibetan Dumpling Soup (also known as "Lemur-Face Soup")
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1ee94d3df5bb3c996c245405e60e4011/7cda5879d3f6940b-d5/s540x810/bdd210727ec99154fdcb61f4a3e80d66768d0d00.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b126fc646f25b5bbba81e924c1e12ab7/7cda5879d3f6940b-12/s540x810/62f52dfacabb5ef313515e2b2c55fc36621ee058.jpg)
This soup is extremely similar to Mokthuk, but the dumplings are made in a different way and more resemble wontons. This dish is often colloquially referred to as "Lemur-Face Soup" by Air Nomad children, as the folded dumplings resemble the faces of flying lemurs. Because the dumplings for this soup require a bit of extra effort, it would have been a rare treat growing up. Yangchen loves it both for the flavor and the fond memories it brings.
Desserts
Tenshi-Bhakthuk
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b5d6bdca7a4a4dc35368aed4bc88ce84/7cda5879d3f6940b-9b/s540x810/34d723379b627d7e20e82ed8adaa5fc30d9d86d7.jpg)
This is a fried pastry covered in a sugar syrup that is typically served at New Year's celebrations. They are small, crunchy little snacks that Yangchen would love eating each year at the celebration.
Bulug
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/52333a8ae11cdef768d089086ca8285c/7cda5879d3f6940b-a9/s540x810/22e4e4daaa53e85689e5fce552c57420d79eb5ed.jpg)
The best way I can describe this is that it's a Tibetan funnel cake. This is also served at New Year's celebrations. When Yangchen was younger, she and her sister Jetsun would always get one of these to split. It's a bittersweet memory now, but she still absolutely loves the food.
----
And there we have it! A whole selection of foods I think Yangchen would enjoy. Feel free to use this in fics, art, headcanons, whatever, and your own as you see fit!
Due to all this research I've done, I also have lots of ideas for foods that could be added to the Air Nomad cuisine as a whole - who knows, maybe that will become a separate post of its own!
Pretty much all recipes came from Palden's Kitchen ; would absolutely recommend checking his channel out! His videos are very high quality and his voice is incredibly soothing, honestly I want this man as my grandfather now.
Finally, I also need to give a shoutout to @atlaculture for providing inspiration and resources for my Tibetan food deep dive!

Entry 001: 22/05/24
Believe it or not, but Park Jongseong wakes up at 5 am every morning, and has done so for the past three years of his life. His friends would have a fit if they heard that, as he was notoriously known for running late to class every single day.
His teachers wouldn’t believe him either, as Mr. Lee himself has chased Jongseong down one too many times for trying to sneak into first period half an hour late by hopping the side gate.
(Riki’s stupid April Fool’s prank had him up at 3 am, his dad thought he was going crazy for how early he was up that day.)
But it wasn’t like he was doing crimes or wasting time before school. No, Jongseong was busy working his ass off at the restaurant his family owned, prepping the kitchen before they opened at 7:30 am sharp.
“Fresh eggs are beautiful, aren’t they?” His mother smiles as Jongseong helps his father carry in the mounds of cartons of eggs the delivery driver just dropped off. She’s holding one of the brown eggs, admiring its color.
“They are,” He nods with a gentle smile. She chuckles and ruffles his bed hair. “Let’s go, we still need to wash and chop the cabbage for kimchi.” She tells him, and he follows her deeper into the kitchen.
Jongseong’s mornings were usually pretty peaceful. He and his parents prepare the restaurant for a long day ahead: making a fresh batch of kimchi to ferment, restocking ingredients, cleaning and pre-cutting meat, washing any leftover dishes, tidying up the restaurant- you name it, he’s done it.
He took pride in knowing he’s able to help and create not only delicious meals, but an enjoyable atmosphere for people to eat in.
“You better hurry, you still need to get ready for school.” His mother urges. They’d returned home to eat their own breakfast. Jongseong shovels his food down his throat (his mom made him scrambled soft tofu and eggs over rice).
“And didn’t you say you’ve still got some Biology homework to finish?” His dad asks, washing a plate.
His eyes widened. He did have a page left in his workbook. Crap.
“Gotta go bye!” Jongseong swallows the rest of his food, downing his drink in seconds before placing his dishes in the sink. “Don’t forget to brush your hair!” he hears his mother call, before he dashes upstairs to his bedroom.
15 minutes later Jongseong showered, changed out of his dirty work clothes into his school uniform, and is now struggling to blow dry his hair while simultaneously brushing his teeth.
He checks the clock, it’s 7:42. He had 18 minutes to get to school. If he ran, he could catch up to the guys, and maybe convince Jaeyun to help him with the last page of his Biology homework during lunch.
He rinses his mouth, and runs back to his room to stuff his books and binder into his bag. At the front door, he trips on his way out while slipping on his shoes.
Jongseong runs across the street, barging into the already bustling restaurant. He waves to a few regulars who greet him cheerily. “Mom?” He leans against the counter, calling out for her.
“I’m here! I made you lunch too,” She holds up the neat looking container, and he happily places it into his bag. “Have a good day at school alright? Don’t be late, I don’t know if I can handle another call from the office about you being tardy,” She warns him.
“Thanks, I’ll be fine,” He assures her. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
His mother nods, and pats his head. “Be safe, I love you.” She gives him a hug and kisses his cheek. Feeling embarrassed, he blushes, reeling back (he’d wipe his cheek if it weren’t for the fact he knows his mom would complain).
“Okay, see you later,” He grins, walking out.
“Bye son!” His dad cheers, sticking his head out from the kitchen window. Jongseong laughs before ducking out back onto the street.
He dashes down the road, running through smaller streets and alleys as fast as he can. His watch reads 7:50, he’s gonna need to speed it up. Jongseong decided to take a shortcut, sprinting through a park to save him some time.
“Hiya mister!” One of the little kids shouts as he goes down the slide. Jongseong chuckles and gives him a big wave as he darts past.
Going back on the main road, Jongseong decides to climb a fence and he’s happy to see on the other side a group of familiar boys, walking leisurely a few meters ahead. Perfect.
Jongseong leaps, landing a bit roughly, not bothering to dust himself off before jogging over to join his friends.
“Thought you’d never show,” Sunoo greets. “You need to stop sleeping in,” Sunghoon lectures. Instead of arguing, he just nods, rolling his eyes.
“Where’s Jungwon?” He asks, looking at the group to realize his best friend was nowhere to be found.
“What do you mean?” Heeseung looks at him, confused. “Jongseong has been late all week, he doesn’t know.” Riki answers.
“Remember Jungwon's president now? He has to come to school early,” Jaeyun fills him in, as they enter school through the front doors. With a groan, Jongseong nods, he’d forgotten about that.
Elections were last Friday, and two days ago on Monday, the results were posted. Jongseong had lost the position he wanted as Treasurer.
While initially upset, Jongseong saw the silver lining of it all. He had no idea how he would be able to juggle being on the student body council, and help his parents with the restaurant (on top of his grades… yikes).
Jungwon on the other hand, had miraculously won the position as Student Body President, his biggest fears coming true.
“They won’t even let me pass it off to Euijoo,” Jungwon sighs as he calls Jongseong a few nights ago. “I don’t even want to be president, Euijoo does! This has to be rigged, my speech was horrible. I literally told people to not vote for me!”
“So do we actually know if the votes were rigged?” Jongseong follows Jaeyun to his classroom. “Dude, Jungwon’s super popular. He’s friendly to everyone, funny, good looking, and down to earth. Who wouldn’t vote for him?”
“He’s like a breath of fresh air compared to all the uptight and strict past presidents” Sunghoon pops into the conversation. “Or at least that’s what my girlfriend told me.” He shrugs. “Oh geez, here we go again,” Jaeyun rolls his eyes.
Ever since Sunghoon got a girlfriend, he’s been insufferable. They’ve been dating for a total of one week and Sunghoon has made it very very apparent that he believes he’s the chosen one.
Before Sunghoon can argue, his girlfriend arrives, tackling the boy in a hug and distracting him for his friends. “Anyways” Jongseong clears his throat. “Jayeun, think you could help me finish my Biology homework at lunch?” The other boy eyes him, looking uninterested. “Do I have to?”
Jongseong huffs. “I’ll buy you a Yakult.” Jaeyun looks tempted. “Buy two and I’ll help.” Jongseong gives in, sighing with a nod while his friend smirks triumphantly. The warning bell rings and Jongseong begins to depart back to his class.
“And make sure they’re nice and cold!” Jaeyun calls out. Jongseong doesn’t even turn around as he gives him a thumbs up.
“Can’t you just do the entire thing for me?” Jongseong whines. “Not unless you buy me one more Yakult.” Jaeyun teases. Like hell he’d pay for another tiny overpriced yogurt cup, even if it was supposed to be good for you.
“Give me that,” He swipes his workbook back, trying to focus while Jaeyun laughs at him.
“Biology isn’t that hard,” Riki says as he takes a bite of his food. “Remind us again what’s your rank in your class?” Jongseong asks as he scribbles down an answer. Riki goes quiet, mumbling obscenities as Sunoo cackles at him. “He’s like five away from last,”
Someone suddenly throws their tray down onto the table, catching everyone by surprise.
“Look who finally arrived!” Riki’s mood flips and he graciously stands to bow, hands pointing to the empty spot beside him. “Your seat, your majesty!”
Jungwon doesn’t look the least bit excited as he sits down.
“Hey, we saw you on the intercom this morning! Good job on the announcements,” Heeseung smiles. “Thanks.” Jungwon’s eye twitches.
“That was so funny,” Riki begins to laugh. “Dude, Riki C and I were gonna piss our pants.”
Jungwon’s eyes turn sharp, he suddenly grabs Riki by the collar, scaring everyone at the table.
“I know where you live Nishimura, I will hunt you down and personally make your life a living hell. Your sister told me you still sleep with your baby blanket. Don’t test me.” Jungwon growls, and Jongseong has to step in and pull him away.
“Okay, calm down prez, you’ve got an entire cafeteria watching you.” He reminds his best friend. (Riki clutches his throat as he moves to sit next to Heeseung. The senior comforts him, petting his hair and whispering soothing words.)
Jungwon settles, now moping as he picks at his food. “If I have to sit through one more boring ass meeting, I don’t know what I’ll do, but I’m going crazy.” Jongseong eyes him as he finishes his workbook, stuffing it into his bag and pulling out the lunch his mom packed.
“Looks like I dodged a bullet,” He jokes, only to receive a glare from Jungwon. “Sorry,” he mumbles.
“Don’t stress out too much,” Heeseung says. “If you want, I can ask my sister to help you out. She’s the new secretary.”
Not only Jungwon, but the entire table, is silent as they stare at Heeseung for a total of seven seconds.
“Your sister is Lee Yunah?!” Jungwon hisses, voice lowering as he mentions the girl’s name.
“Yeah,” Heeseung frowns. “You guys didn’t know? Everyone says we look alike.”
But no one seemed to hear him, everyone was confused how someone so nice, friendly, and popular as Lee Yunah, was related to… well, Heeseung.
“I sit across from her in class, we talk all the time, she’s never mentioned you were her brother.” Sunoo looks shocked.
“I don’t know, we don’t really interact at school since we’re in different grades, so maybe that’s why?” Heeseung shrugs, continuing to eat his food.
That was definitely not the reason why.
“I think I can talk to her myself,” Jungwon mumbles. Heeseung doesn’t seem bothered.
“Hey!” Jaeyun suddenly speaks up. “I don’t have practice today, you guys wanna go to the arcade after school?”
Heeseung looks ecstatic at this. “Sure! I’d love to go!” Riki also looks more cheerful.
“Yeah, can my girlfriend come?” Sunghoon asks. “Eh, why not? She’s probably better at games than you anyways.” Jaeyun snickers while Sunghoon glares.
“Well I can’t, I’ve got to paint my tree.” Sunoo sighs. “Paint your what?” Jongseong swears he heard him wrong. “My tree costume. You guys do remember I'm Tree number two in the musical, right? We’re doing Wizard of Oz.”
“Oh really? I just thought you just really liked plants all of a sudden.” Riki admits and Sunoo rolls his eyes.
“Well, I’ve got another meeting after school. So I can’t. We’re gonna discuss appropriate and inappropriate ways to wear our uniforms.” Jungwon looks distressed.
“What about you Jongseong? Wanna go?” Jaeyun looks hopeful at him.
Jongseong’s lips grow into a thin line as he winces. “Can’t. I’ve got baseball.” He lies.
The other boys (minus Jungwon) groan in unison. “Your baseball league is crazy, practice every day, including weekends?!” Jaeyun exclaims.
“We haven’t been to any of your games, you never invite us.” Sunghoon complains. “And when you do, we’re always busy or the game gets canceled.” Sunoo points out.
“I bet you it’s because he’s so bad he keeps getting benched. Doesn’t want us to watch him sit all day.” Riki chuckles. Jongseong doesn’t do anything but sigh.
“Sorry, but they’re really strict. Maybe one of these days you'll see me play.” He feigns sadness.
“Quick question, which arcade are we going to?” Heeseung asks. As the boys turn their attention back to their afternoon plans, Jongseong glances at his best friend.
Jungwon looks at him disapprovingly.
He wonders for how much longer he can keep this little lie up.
He’s chopping up some scallions when his mom bursts into the kitchen.
“Son! I thought I told you to go home and finish your homework?” She places her hands on her hips.
“I already finished my homework.” Jongseong fibs.
“Really? Or are you just lying so you can help out tonight?” She eyes him.
“Okay I didn’t.” He tells the truth. His mother does not seem happy with that. “But you and dad need help. Chef Jiyoung has already left, and Chaeyoung and Minjoon are off. I can cook while you and dad serve. Plus my homework isn’t that hard, I can do it before I go to bed.”
His mom sighs, mumbling something about how he stresses her out sometimes. Jongseong has a feeling he’s about to be lectured.
“You’re such a good kid, you know that?” She surprises him by ruffling his hair. His worries subsided.
“And you’re a good mom.” He tells her, feeling shy. “Here’s table 6’s order.” He hands her the plate of food before she can get sappy with him. As she walks out to serve the food, his mother wears the biggest smile.
Jongseong continues his shift, cooking every meal his family throws at him with ease. He always loved to cook. It first started out from just watching his parents, it fascinated him how simple ingredients could become the best meal he’s ever eaten.
When he got older, he began to help around the kitchen. Jongseong found it fun to learn the process of each dish, and enjoyed it even more when the food came out delicious.
Now he’s a master in the kitchen, whipping out dishes without as much as a glance at the recipe. His dad would even argue Jongseong was a better cook than him now.
It’s the end of the night, and Jongseong is cleaning up the kitchen when his parents come in chuckling.
“Son! You’ll never guess what happened. Your dream came true!” His dad chortles. Jongseong looks at him confused. “What do you mean?”
“Remember when you told us you’d always wanted to go out and personally thank a customer for enjoying your food like they do in the movies? Well, it’s happened! A lovely young lady wanted us to give her compliments to the chef, you!” His mother beams.
Jongseong stands there, baffled. He’d told his parents that silly dream when he was eight years old after watching Ratatouille for the first time.
“That’s cool.” He nods. “You should go out there, say thanks. She was very sweet.” His mom encourages.
“Uh, I don’t think so, that’s-“ “Oh son please! She’s the last customer of the night, there’s no one else out there. Don’t be embarrassed.” His dad pushes.
“Plus, she’s very pretty! You should be excited such a pretty girl enjoyed your cooking.” His mom acts as if that’s the biggest accomplishment he’s ever achieved.
His parents look at him eagerly, and Jongseong gives in, sighing as he unties his apron. “Fine, but I’m never doing this again.” He grumbles, much to his parents' delight.
He brushes himself off, running a hand through his hair as he steps out to the front. He spots the person sitting in the booth, their back facing him.
With a deep breath, he approaches.
“Hi, I heard you really enjoyed your meal. I wanted to thank you, I’m the chef.” He states, as he walks over, trying his best to sound joyful. “Is there anything I can do to-“
“Jongseong..? You work here?” The person interrupts.
He finally looks and Jongseong immediately realizes he’s fucked up, since the person he’s just walked up to was you, L/n Y/n, the new Student Body Treasurer.
Why is he screwed? That's because EN-High students aren’t allowed to have jobs, and you’ve caught him red-handed.
Jongseong’s life was ruined the moment he saw you.

hi! im shimp friend of the recipes
okay so fried rice is very simple and easy. but the two three four most important things i left out of the explanation above!
1. when you add the rice to the hot oil in the pan, it is best if the rice is dried out leftover rice bc that will fry best.
two! very important to add sauce. i like a large sploosh of soy and some sriracha and sometimes a drizzle of chili crisp.
iii. add any fixins. i recommend leftover meats/tofu/veggies of most kinds. i've had some success with fried rice made with leftover butter chicken for example. allow to sit, sizzle, and mix with the rice until everything is thoroughly heated. shimps would happen at this step.
4️⃣ add the flourish! this means egg! make a cleared space in the middle of your rice and crack however many eggs you feel like into the middle. scramble them so that the white and yolk are all mixed up, and then let it sit for a minute until the eggs are mostly cooked but still soft. then stir your spatula/spoon/utensil/chopsticks through! mix it all through the rice! then chop some scallions and add them, give a quick mix through, and youre done!!!!
-fried rice fiend friend of shimp 🦐 anon
And at once, the anonymous givers who used to put questions at my feet now offer answers into my hands. They guide me, kind in soul and beautiful in voice, formless, effervescent beings with the endings to every remark I speak into being. We join together in the dance that brings creation, a creation that sits perfectly in a cast-iron. It wasn't the divine who would answer my search for knowledge, but the people, the network, those who have gathered around me for so long. I would have come into and gleaned from their vast knowledge had I not let them sit in patient, respectful silence at the foot of the crown. I often wondered of the nature of the countless shrimp emojis that have been sent onto my dashboard without having the bravery to question their purpose. But now I see what I was always meant to. chili, siracha, eggs in the pan
#aniisol#this is the best creative writing tool i've ever used i think#thank you anonymous soy sauce giver

27. Do you like to garden? Have you ever grown something?
I love to garden! And I have grown many things. I am growing many things this year actually. I'm too disabled to do as much as I'd like to do. That part sucks. But because it's a passion of mine and it's so rewarding, I do prioritise it.
So my entire back garden was created from scratch, literally it was a sandpit because this house basically didn't exist until we moved into it. So xeriscaping / landscaping is something close to my heart. I typically focus on local native plants because of our fragile and specific ecosystem, for local pollinators, but as time goes by I've also fallen in love with many other plants from other climes and places too.
The front garden has more 'exotics' in it. This year, from seed, I'm growing dahlias, zinnias, Californian poppies, basil, snapdragons, poached egg plants, foxgloves, marigolds, spinach and cucumber. In the back garden in pots we also have karapincha (curry plant) given to me by my Sri Lankan sister-in-law, from her curry plant. I've kept it alive in a pot for about 15 years or so. I also grow aloe vera (more like I can't fucking kill it), citronella (begone!), lemongrass, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and sage (until it finally died this year). Also daffodils and gladiolus from bulbs.
I am super proud of my garden and its many changes. It's a good place to raise a puppy. It's a great place to watch the world go by. It was once sand, and now it's a haven of Eucalyptus trees for many different species of honeyeater and wattlebird. It makes up for the fact that I'm too disabled to go anywhere and do anything most of the time. Even if I only leave the house to do something other than a medical appointment about 4 or 5 times a year, at least the garden is there for me!

top 10 things i cooked in 2023
this year i made 104 unique recipes (plus lots of duplicates when i liked something enough to make it multiple times). the places i went to most for recipes were feasting at home + the NYT recipes app, although i very much liked the weekday vegetarians, love and lemons, cookie & kate, nora cooks, and the foodie takes flight.
my top 10, in no particular order:
NYT ricotta pasta with roasted broccoli and crispy chickpeas (super simple but a great yummy pasta to make real quick for friends. I roasted the broccoli instead of broiling and added lots of extra lemon zest, garlic, red pepper flakes, and a tray of oven-roasted chickpeas)
moroccan vegetable tagine (i blended a bunch of recipes but the one linked was my starting point. this is the one form i like butternut squash in lol. modifications: i went heavy on all the spices but especially the cinnamon and cardamom, added chopped dried apricots to the stew for extra sweetness, and threw in a bunch of extra veggies. yum)
indian-ish nachos with cheddar, black beans and chutney (do NOT skip the multiple chutneys and sauces. it will seem like too much work you will say can't i just make one and be done with it but those sauces are where the magic lies. the great tragedy of these nachos is that i wanted to eat them for DAYS but they do not reheat well. but godddd they were good)
ottolenghi's green pancakes with lime butter (these are SO easy. great for brunch but also make delicious additions to your lunch for a couple days after. also it's a perfect way to eat a pound of spinach and feel very virtuous about it when really you just ate delicious jalapeno-y scallion pancakes. the lime butter is great but it's a lot of work so i usually just top these with some sour cream mixed with a lil bit of lime zest & lime juice)
cauliflower shawarma with spicy tahini sauce (YUM! the tahini sauce as written was too bitter for me with the cholula mixed in. i think i'd try it with sriracha next time so it was a little sweeter. i also added chickpeas yum)
roasted cauliflower daal with chickpeas (my notes say this was "OUTTA THIS WORLD DELICIOUS" but also note that it will "really clean you out GI-wise" lol. lentils always have that effect on me though so ymmv. i added bell pepper, roasted the cauliflower first, cooked the lentils most of the way soft in the rice cooker instead of on the stove, and added two chopped serrano peppers with seeds to give it a lil extra kick. i would recommend halving the recipe if you are cooking for one as there were TONS of leftovers and my GI system could not handle being cleansed that many times lol)
pasta with corn, tomatoes, "onion-bacon," and basil (this method of preparing onions really should not taste like bacon and yet it sort of does????? this was a summer recipe i made multiple times for a range of audiences and it was a hit every time. originally from the weekday vegetarians)
creamy corn pasta (THIS HAS NO RIGHT BEING AS GOOD AS IT IS. IT'S SO SIMPLE AND YET IT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED I COULD EAT IT FOR DAYS. WE ATE IT ALL SUMMER)
ottolenghi's very full roasted veggie tart (it will take you hours to make and no time at all to consume but oh my god it's so good and SUCH a satisfying way to spend a long weekend afternoon. liz and i loved this so much we had to have a serious sitdown to discuss how we would divvy up the leftovers because we felt it could seriously damage our friendship if one of us ate all of it)
bombay burritos (the little sauces and things take a long time to make but you can prep a lot of the stuff a day or two in advance and gosh these are so tasty!! the curried mashed potatoes YUM)
honorable mentions:
ottolenghi's mango soba noodles (skip the eggplant i'd do tofu or something instead)
braised tofu with basil (i made this with a veggie-loaded stir fry and topped it with a fried egg)
this carrot cake (it took forever to make but it was the best carrot cake i've ever had and the only thing i'll ever make on my bday from here on out). she also has a pumpkin cake recipe that is so good and much simpler to make (no grating required)
momofuku's ginger scallion tofu with crispy coconut rice (the recipe is for a shrimp version but we made it with tofu and it was very yummy. i made this at a friend's house and it was so good i wanted to ask to take home some of the leftovers but decided that was too rude ahaha)
and then of course i gotta give a shoutout to my #1 comfort foods this year, SHAKSHUKA (my beloved) + a caprese sandwich with balsamic glaze served on really good bread.

Straw Hat Fun Facts - Evie's OCs Edition
A while ago, I posted these character bulding questions on my resources blog. And now, in the light of my lingering obsession with One Piece, my growing number of OCs for the fandom AND my recent milestone, I've decided that now is as good a time as any to finally answer them for my own OCs! Not all of them are, in fact, Straw Hats, but I'll still answer the questions for them because I can.
Featured are Aurelia, Cora, Inari, Lily, Luna and Lux AND the two still undeveloped ones, for now code-named Betta Fish and Flying Squirrel because... well, that's what they're based on.
Have fun!
Note: I wrote this post over a week ago, told myself I'd proofread it and never did... And then I proofread it last night at about 11pm, so... Yeah, you'll find no braincells here, just pure vibes and the braincells that were already there a week ago. That being said, I'm particularly proud of the "As a Family" section
Animal Resemblances
Aurelia: Peacock
Cora: Mouse
Inari: Red fox
Lily: Fennec fox (obviously)
Luna: Swan
Lux: Lynx (once again, obviously)
Betta Fish: Well.... a betta fish! Also known as Siamese flying fish!
Flying Squirrel: I actually get to say some more here, it's specifically a Japanese giant flying squirrel.
Specific Numbers
Aurelia: 107 (do-na)
Cora: 6/5 (sixth Straw Hat to join if you count Luffy, fifth if you don't, i.e. fifth recruited), 96 (ko-ra), 25510 (a-ka-i-to), 19 (ichi-ku)
Inari: 8/7 (eighth Straw Hat to join, seventh recruited), 176/576 (i-na-ri), 53 (ka-mi)
Lily: 5/4 (fifth Straw Hat to join, fourth recruited), 66 (ri-ri -> Lily)
Luna: 8/7 (eighth Straw Hat to join, seventh recruited)
Lux: 106 (ji-rou), 693 (ru-kku-su -> Lux) 080 (ou-ya-ma; short for ouyamaneko = lynx)
Betta Fish: to be determined
Flying Squirrel: 6331 (mu-sa-sa-bi = Japanese giant flying squirrel)
Specific Colors
Aurelia: black, gold
Cora: a very dark fuchsia/dark red
Inari: pastel orange/pink mixture
Lily: pastel purple/pink mixture
Luna: (soft) icy blue
Lux: beige, white
Betta Fish: Cobalt blue, rainbow
Flying Squirrel: Dark cyan/blue
Specific Smells
Aurelia: violets, a hint of sandalwood, expensive perfume
Cora: cherries, cinnamon
Inari: strawberries, birthday cake
Lily: sea salt (the smell gets caught in her fur), water lilies, usually a hint of cigarette smoke because she's been around Sanji for a while
Luna: almond milk and honey
Lux: cheap cologne; grease or oil if he hasn't showered since last working on the Tang
Betta Fish: salt water, lavender
Flying Squirrel: Incense, wax, fireworks
Favourite Type of Island and Season
Aurelia: Previously spring on a summer island, now spring on an autumn island
Cora: Spring on a spring island
Inari: Any season on Totto Land; summer on a spring island
Lily: Summer on a spring island
Luna: Winter on a spring island
Lux: Winter on a winter island
Betta fish: Autumn on any island with a forest
Flying Squirrel: only knows Wano seasons
Favourite Food
Aurelia: Spaghetti carbonara, most likely
Cora: Honestly? Fish and chips. I don't know why. But not the cheap kind. High-end fish and chips, freshly made by Sanji. Fish that is fresh out of the sea, with a crispy crust, and the chips aren't your typical burger fries but more like fried potatoes. I feel like she'd also enjoy sweet potato fries
Inari: Inarizushi, which is a pouch of fried tofu filled with sushi rice. She loves it because it has the same name as her and because it has little fox ears. Sanji usually decorates it with a fox face to match
Lily: Omelette. Why? Because fennec foxes love eggs. Generally, preparing her an egg is good enough, whether you cook it or fry it, she loves eggs, but she especially adores omelettes because they look cool and because of the way Sanji makes them
Luna: Yoghurt, preferably with honey. She also loves elderberries, or yoghurt with elderberry jam
Lux: I feel like he'd like turkey hen? Generally, some sort of poultry. Also chicken (which is a poultry, I know)
Betta fish: Oysters, seaweed
Flying Squirrel: Daifuku (the food, not the character), udon
Least Favourite Food
Aurelia: Chips as in crisps, specifically she doesn't like salted ones. ESPECIALLY not salt and vinegar ones
Cora: I feel like she's not a fan of bitter foods in general and she hates it when food gets burned and she has to eat that charred black stuff. Luckily, that doesn't happen to Sanji. For somewhat obvious reasons, I feel like she also doesn't like oregano
Inari: Funnily enough, she doesn't like fried tofu. Her favourite food is inarizushi but she doesn't like fried tofu. That's because it takes the correct tofu, the proper frying technique and enough rice for her to like inarizushi. She doesn't like the taste of just fried tofu on its own
Lily: I'd say she doesn't like dried, salted fish. It's a common preserve on sea travels and she probably had to eat it a few too many times. Poor girl. She may also be slightly allergic against high amounts of salt
Luna: I don't know. Honestly, she might not be a fan of alcohol? Or at least drinks where you can taste the alcohol, so anything spiked probably isn't for her. There's this dish called Herrencreme in Germany - she wouldn't like it
Lux: Lux isn't exactly a picky eater, but I feel like he has a personal vendetta against cooked meat, especially if it's overcooked
Betta fish: Easy, mermaids don't eat meat and they don't eat fish. A certain group of people tricked her into eating fish at some point and, when she learned what she ate, she immediately had to throw up and felt bad about it for years after
Flying squirrel: I feel like she wouldn't like typical American™ fast food. Too greasy and weird
As a Family
Aurelia is normally the mother but, in the case of the Straw Hats, she might as well be the rich aunt
Cora has middle child vibes (says I, the person with no siblings). She's younger than Nami, vibes-wise. Then again, she's Sanji and Zoro's boyfriend, so... She's the girlfriend that's already part of the family
Inari: The youngest daughter, but only because her and Lily don't exist in the same universe. Technically, she'd be a cousin though? Or a half-sister? Yeah, she's a half-sister!
Lily: Well, you got me there. Youngest daughter, but she's also Sanji's daughter, which would mess up all the generations, so let's say she's the baby daughter that Sanji mainly takes care of
Luna: She's the oldest sister, or, because she's Sanji's girlfriend, she's the girlfriend who the parents like more than their actual child because she's so responsible
Lux: Technically not a Straw Hat, so let's say he's either a cousin or the kid living next door who's always playing soccer with the Straw Hat kids and comes over so often that he practically already lives with them
Betta fish: I can't give too much away without spoilers, but she's the other mother. She's the dad's girlfriend. We're doing a patchwork family here, people. Two moms, two dads.
Flying Squirrel: Neighbour kid who helped the Straw Hats get their ball out of a tree that one time and now they love her. Her and dad no. 1 bond over woodworking
Real-World Nationalities
Aurelia is Mexican, no doubt about it
Cora is English
See, this is where "nationality" becomes the deciding factor because, nationality-wise, Inari is English. As for her heritage, she's probably not just white. I see her as being part Japanese
Lily doesn't really have a nationality because she grew up on a ship, but she eventually moved in with Kaya, who is English
Lux, I'd say, is Russian
Betta fish lady is Thai, because betta fish are also known as Siamese fighting fish and Siam is the historical name of Thailand
Flying Squirrel person is Japanese and of Chinese and Japanese descent
Inner Brain
Aurelia: It depends! Her inner brain is either fully on danger mode or fawning over Mihawk 24/7
Cora: Mostly sewing-related. The other half belongs to her boys <3
Inari: Sweets and chaos.
Lily: There's no way to pin it down. Her mind is 100% childlike whimy and chaos
Lux: Is Zoro around? If so, he's 100% in love. Otherwise, he's honestly either about training or repairing the Tang - or a no thoughts head empty sort of person. He loves his naps
Betta fish lady I honestly don't know too much about yet. Further in the story, she's thinking about her partners for sure (and trying to babysit the Straw Hats, probably), but before that...? I dunno. Let's say she's thinking about tea.
Flying squirrel person is thinking about archery, revenge, stealing, honor and the occasional woodworking project
Suited Flower
Aurelia: Aster flower
Cora: Somehow, I'd say it's a poppy. Because poppies make you fall asleep, which is something that Cora is notoriously bad at lol - and it's red!
Inari: Snapdragon
Lily: Water lily
Lux: Zinnia
Betta fish lady: Hyacinth
Flying squirrel person: Hydrangea
I think I'll leave it at these for now? Maybe you'll find some interesting fun facts here <3
Taglist: @starcrossedjedis @oneirataxia-girl @daughter-of-melpomene @bravelittleflower - let me know if you’d like to be added or removed!

From the same economy rice stall as yesterday, is this box of Takeaway Dinner. I picked totally different dishes from last night’s meal. Sliced and fried then stewed potato, silky soft egg tofu and fried chicken with plenty of curry leaves in a sweet and creamy glaze.

CHEF ILONA: CREAMY EDAMAME DIP
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/944e64fb2091f979117e15527fae2582/31e62e774b41352c-80/s540x810/3d641ecbe389a0638b411ff298fd53386edc8e2f.jpg)
Edamame Dip:
Edamame are the young, green soybeans which are harvested while they are immature. This dip is entirely plant-based and gets its creaminess from silken tofu, and this dip packs an herbaceous punch with both basil and cilantro. I love this dip with rice crackers or as a flavour base in a lettuce cup.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/44a588d3a0feb6c8cb748600b0c64ddf/31e62e774b41352c-1b/s540x810/1247b33334c3162da3749a0bdc9fec57dabe332a.jpg)
Silken tofu is a great ingredient for making vegan dips due to its unique texture and nutritional profile. Here's why:
Creamy Texture Silken tofu has a smooth and soft consistency, making it an ideal base for creamy dips like ranch, spinach-artichoke, or hummus-like blends. It can easily mimic dairy-based dips when blended.
Neutral Flavor Its mild flavor allows it to take on the taste of other ingredients, making it versatile for both savory and sweet dips.
Nutritional Benefits High Protein: Silken tofu is a good source of plant-based protein, adding a nutritional boost to your dips. Low Fat: It’s naturally low in fat compared to many traditional dip bases like cream cheese or mayonnaise. Cholesterol-Free: Perfect for heart-healthy recipes.
Allergen-Friendly It’s dairy-free and egg-free, making it suitable for people with lactose intolerance, egg allergies, or following a vegan diet.
Easy to Work With Silken tofu blends seamlessly with other ingredients, creating a smooth, lump-free dip without the need for additional thickeners.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a971303c8023d67eb8fbff5908f6d30/31e62e774b41352c-8d/s540x810/84b7cc432600acf726c6a7dace21fccfdc1d5b39.jpg)
Edamame Dip
Serves 8-10
1 package silken tofu, drained
2 cups shelled edamame, plus ¼ cup for garnish
½ cup cilantro, roughly chopped
1 cup basil, torn
1 jalapeno, halved, seeded, and roughly chopped
4 green onions roughly chopped
¼ cup olive oil
juice of 2-3 limes
¾-1 Tbsp salt, season to taste
Put everything into a food processor minus the tofu and begin to blend on high. When the puree is almost completely smooth, add in the tofu. Blend the mixture until the mixture is smooth. Refrigerate the dip for at least an hour before serving, but the dip is best served after being chilled overnight.
Garnish options: whole edamame beans, gochugaru, scallions, basil, cilantro, pistachios, olive oil

Following several hospitalizations linked to the most recent serving of Frankie’s Famous Fish last month, all waivers have been destroyed and future shipments of “fish” scratched from the order. Anyone who sees or smells “fish” should report this to Site Security. Site Administration would like to stress and remind personnel not to try Frankie’s Famous Fish at the cafeteria; do not believe the rumors the dish gives you powers if you survive. Joining the Walking Club is especially critical given the WEATHER WARNING soon to be in effect; any personnel who need to move between site buildings while the WARNING is active must contact the Walking Club. The correct way to contact the Walking Club is to step through the nearest door, close it behind you,* and whistle as loud as possible. If you are not a good whistler, that is okay! There is no such thing as a bad whistle if you put your heart into it! The Walking Club will still hear you and arrive shortly. *If Newt has chosen you as his walking buddy, you are advised to brace yourself against the door before whistling, to prevent injury.

Good evening. It has been brought to my attention that our new additions here at Site-φ may be in need of a reminder as to the appropriateness of fraternization among personnel at this highly clandestine installation. To reiterate what was stated during onboarding and in the welcome brochure: “making eyes,” “canoodling,” and/or “partaking in the horizontal tango” with fellow staff members is not allowed at Site-φ. As you all know, the nature of our work demands absolute dedication and focus. Surely any rumors of anyone engaging in such acts on-site are, indeed, no more than crass rumors to razz the newcomers.

Classic Korean Dishes You Need to Try
Korean cuisine is known for its bold flavors, vibrant colors, and unique combinations of ingredients. Here are some classic Korean dishes you absolutely need to try, along with easy recipes to help you bring the deliciousness of Korean food into your kitchen!
1. Bibimbap
Bibimbap is a mixed rice dish topped with an array of vegetables, meat (usually beef), a fried egg, and gochujang (Korean chili paste).
Easy Recipe: Cook rice and set aside. Sauté vegetables like spinach, carrots, and mushrooms separately. In a bowl, place a serving of rice, arrange the sautéed vegetables on top, add sliced beef (or tofu for a vegetarian option), and top with a fried egg. Drizzle with gochujang and mix before eating!
2. Kimchi
Kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine, made from fermented vegetables, typically napa cabbage and radishes, seasoned with chili pepper, garlic, and ginger.
Easy Recipe: Chop napa cabbage and sprinkle with salt, letting it sit for a few hours. Rinse and mix with garlic, ginger, gochugaru (Korean chili powder), and fish sauce (or soy sauce for a vegan version). Pack into a jar and let ferment at room temperature for a few days before refrigerating.
3. Bulgogi
Bulgogi is marinated beef that’s grilled or stir-fried, known for its sweet and savory flavor.
Easy Recipe: Slice beef thinly and marinate in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and pepper for at least 30 minutes. Stir-fry the marinated beef with sliced onions and carrots until cooked through. Serve with rice and lettuce leaves for wrapping.
4. Japchae
Japchae is a stir-fried glass noodle dish made with sweet potato noodles, vegetables, and sometimes meat.
Easy Recipe: Soak sweet potato noodles in hot water until soft, then drain. Stir-fry a mix of vegetables (like bell peppers, carrots, and spinach) in sesame oil, add the noodles, and season with soy sauce and sesame seeds. For added protein, toss in some beef or tofu.
5. Tteokbokki
Tteokbokki are spicy rice cakes that are chewy and satisfying, often found in street food stalls.
Easy Recipe: Boil water with gochujang and sugar to create a sauce. Add sliced rice cakes and fish cakes (optional), simmer until the sauce thickens, and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
These classic global Korean recipes showcase the essence of Korean cuisine, combining flavors and textures that are sure to delight your taste buds. Whether you’re new to cooking or looking for easy recipes to try at home, these dishes are a great way to enjoy the rich culinary tradition of Korea!

You often talk about enjoying vegetables, so I hope you might be able to help me with something. I'm trying to add more veggies into my diet, but I'm not a big fan of raw vegetables so I was wondering if you had suggestions of how to prepare vegetables/dishes that are veggie heavy? So far I've been enjoying roasting broccoli and cauliflower in the oven with some olive oil, salt and pepper.
Also you genuinely seem like a cool, down to earth person. I hope you have a good day/night!
Mixing it in pasta and noodles are awesome!! I like to heat up a big deep frying pan to about a 6 on my range top dial with a little grapeseed oil, then sear some cut up meat and add vegetables to it. Start with the tough veggies first, carrots, celery... summer squash isn't tough, but it has a lot of moisture to release to keep it from being slimy. After a minute or two I add a spoonful or two of Lao Gan Ma chili bean or chili crunch oil I try and use enough that you get the umami flavor without making it spicy.
If I'm making pasta, I've started a pot of water boiling at the same time as I start frying my meat and chopping my vegetables. I add paprika, cumin, whatever herbs I have laying around, worchestershire sauce, and either whatever beer cider or wine we have laying around, or broth. Add the noodles to the water when it boils and start a timer for them. Generally, once the timer has about 3-5 minutes left, I throw a handful of flour I'm and mix it, then whatever delicate vegetables we have laying around, usually tomatoes and peppers, nasturtium leaf, kale... that kind of thing. Drain the pasta when the timer goes off and mix the noodles with the contents of the frying pan. Food time!
If you don't want to do pasta, you can also leave out the broth and crack like 5 or 6 eggs into the pan instead and make a sort of frittata or scramble.
If I'm making noodles, I usually add ginger and garlic to the pan, then the tough vegetables. Then I turn on my kettle and pour it over a bunch of bean threads and let them soften while I add soy sauce, rice wine, and broth to the pan, then add the delicate vegetables, I use baby bok choi here along with the other delicate vegetables I added to pasta. Now I toss the half soft noodles into the pan with the veggies and cook it till the bean threads soak up all the liquid.
Sometimes I serve veggies cooked like this over rice instead of bean threads, then put tofu cooked with a Teriyaki glaze, fried pork belly, or fried eggs on top.
I also put sweet corn in the oven at 425 degrees for 20 minutes, shucked and wrapped in foil with nondairy butter and salt. Sweet potatoes can also be wrapped in foil and cooked at 425 for an hour, I don't like the texture but my husband eats them a lot dipped in sweet chili sauce.
I kind of base my regular weeknight dinners off of whatever veggies we have kicking around the fridge or garden and whatever protein we have. Sometimes it's tofu, sometimes it's polish sausage.

What's Cooking? One pan udon stir fry
With whatever you have in your fridge

Ingredients:
Udon or honestly any noodle. I'm willing to bet that cooked rice will work too.
Any vegetables (leafy green, cabbage, any mushroom, carrot etc.) - cut into thin strips (julienne)
Protein - Chicken or pork or seafood or mince (i use rotisserie leftovers. You can use tofu) - cut however u want
Onion , sliced
2 garlic cloves or however much u want
Soy sauce or salt
Dark soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Oil
Directions:
Boil some water and blanch the udon according to package directions (usually 1-2mins will do). Rinse the noodle under the tap (especiallly if you're using something like room temp stable udon, they add malic acid to preserve the noodle and it'll taste acidic and sour and nasty if you don't rinse! At this point it's safe to taste your noodle to see if it's rinsed enough)
Pour the water out of the pan/wok/pot or whatever u're using
Add oil to the pan and stir fry your onion until kinda soft
Add garlic and fry until you can smell it
If you're using RAW protein, add it now and stirfry until you dont see any translucent or pink bits on the outside (if using cooked protein, so straight to next step)
Add any hard vegetable that you're using and again, fry until kinda soft (just use your gut, it can be eaten raw so who cares) - think stuff like carrot, bell peppers, zucchini
If you're using cooked protein, add it now and stir fry. It's cooked anyway so the idea is just make it hot. If you're using raw protein, skip this step.
Add your vegetables that have leaves and are soft and floppy and mushrooms (eg leafy greens, cabbage etc)
Add the blanched udon in.
Add seasoning - for one packet of udon, add one tsp of oyster sauce, one tbsp of dark soy sauce, and one tsp light soy sauce. Mix well and TASTE. If it's not salty enough, add light soy. If you want more unami/seafood taste, add oyster sauce. U want more sweetness and flavour depth, add more dark soy sauce.
Woohoo you can serve. You can also fry and egg and put it on top. Or scramble the egg in after you add the udon.
