Book Review - Love and Longing in Bombay
Love and longing in Bombay “ The incredible length of Bombay sped by, those endless sprawls of buildings, huts and shacks, children squatting and shitting by the tracks, refuse, the crowded grey roads twisting and winding between, all of it blurred but fearsome in its strength, in its very life that grew it unstoppably.”Vikram Chandra It is the very essence from the quote in the book that does…

And you shall know them by their works.
There are two sides in our current culture wars. But don't decide which side is which by their names. You will know them by their actions. One side works so that everyone should have an opportunity to do something - get married, be nominated for an award, pee in whatever bathroom, be on television. The other side already can - and has - done all those things. {1} That side works so that only their group can get married, be nominated for an award, pee in a bathroom, or be on television. Forget the labels for a second. Are you working to give more people the same chances and opportunities... or to deny chances and opportunities to someone else? {1} This part cannot be emphasized enough. Read the full article

Nouveau riche (French for "new rich") is a term used, usually in a derogatory way, to describe those whose wealth has been acquired within their own generation, rather than by familial inheritance. The equivalent English term is the "new rich" or "new money" (in contrast with "old money"); French: vieux riche). Sociologically, nouveau riche refers to the person who previously had belonged to a lower social class and economic stratum (rank) within that class; and that the new money, which constitutes their wealth, allowed social mobility and provided the means for conspicous consumption, the buying of goods and services that signal membership in an upper class.

been thinging about this coolpost again and all jokes aside, everything you enjoy in life, ESPECIALLY in a first world country, has been guaranteed by the use of Force; whether it’s the implicit threat of or actual factual act of Violence it has granted you your goodlife and nicethings, justified or not. The great crime of firstworlders is to be so far removed from Violence that you are unable to perceive the Force done on your behalf and incapable of applying Force without first going through an entrenchedsystem whose effectiveness entirely depends on your moneystatus/socialclass/race/gender/etc. The Guy With The Gun has and will always be the Motive Power of the world, his willingness to apply Force has secured your lifestyle, like it or not, but he will only act in his self interest and we are steadily moving towards a world where he’ll be better off focusing on him and his instead of helping you and yours. It is time to face reality, throw away your white woman totems and become your own The Guy With The Gun. Clock is ticking
talking to a neighbor tired of clenching her keys between her fingers when she walks two blocks to work and back in broad daylight so she went out and bought a pair of these "retractable self-defense claws" at $35 a pop.
it never ceases to amaze me how people will truecrimebrain themselves into thinking killers and traffickers are always around every corner, hidden in every bush, etc and live in constant fear, but instead of actually training with and carrying a proper defensive weapon they'll adopt this cargo cult mentality of wearing empowerment trinkets that, on the off chance they are attacked, would require the user to get withing arms reach of an assailant to be of any use. pro tip dumbass: buy the biggest gun you can get your hands on. desert deagle 50 caliper is best, if you cant afford it just get it on credit. it feels really good to shoot somebody in the head with it and you'll look really cool too

summarise:
Higher-income people drink more, lower-income people have high rates of both non-drinking and heavy drinking, and the proportion of middle-income people who drink is increasing every year.
low-income people have extremely high rates of morbidity and mortality from alcohol, which is due to the fact that the lower the socio-economic status, the greater influence of stressful events to an individual's life, as well as poor medical care in poor communities
Women in management or middle management in large corporations drink twice as much as women in manual labour, but the difference is not significant for men.

It’s My Birthday (and I’m trying to be brave–possibly failing)
Over on Instagram, I share the motivations quotes of my dogs and cats, which is weird, I know. It’s weird that I give the animals words to hopefully help people instead of Oprah or Tony Robbinsing it and just doing it myself. I would say it’s because I post pictures to get people’s attention and my animals are much cuter than I am. I think that’s part of it. But the other part is that I have a…

We lived with our faces pressed up against the glass, looking through it at those who had much more, watching as they so casually rubbed our faces in their privilege. ...Was it any wonder that people on the wrong side of the glass would eventually decide to take a hammer and break it, reach through and take some of it for themselves? The world can be divided into two kinds of people: those who wait to have things given to them and those who take what they want.

This article describes Webers theory when it came to social class. Weber had three aspects of class that explains that individuals possessions and property defines basically the main difference of classes. Wealthy property owners have easy access to sources of wealth creation. However, Weber did not believe that class necessarily leads to social actio. Marx and Webers theories are not far off from each other but it is definitely stated differently.
