Honestly I'm sick of hearing about Blue Monday, the brand emails have been streaming in since last week ("feeling blue? use our code for 20% off...", argh), but here I am talking about it! I actually have been a bit 'meh' today, motivation is zero, but I thought I'd interrupt my own backlog LOTD posts with what I did actually wear today and of course, I made it blue.

The lipstick, I've worn many times before, it's more rosy than it looks here and whilst it isn't blue, the case is. The packaging whilst cute, feels too light and cheap to me. First time wearing the Fenty gloss, the Ice version is a cooling, lip plumper. It really does feel minty cool. It didn't hurt at all, I wouldn't even say it tingles, just whoosh-refreshing! The two were cute together.

You know what, why don't I wear blue fragrances all week? Anything predominantly blue (liquid/bottle), I should have enough (maybe). I've worn Blue Orchid once before (ironically in the week in November that I'm currently trying to catch up on in these posts).

(From Fragrantica): Blue Orchid is a floral, woody, musk fragrance by Alexandra Carlin, released in 2021.

Top Notes; Lemon, Apple Middle Notes; Iris, Orchid Base Notes; Musk and Tonka Bean.

I get the apple (not the lemon) and to be honest it's not a note I'm usually keen on in fragrances as it smells a bit rubbery to me. Here everything is subtle though, there's no one note drowning out another and as a whole, it's a very quiet scent, not a screamer. It avoids going soapy or overly powdery, whilst still giving 'clean laundry' vibes, it's a very calm fragrance. I sprayed a lot of it today and can still smell it on my arm 10 hours later, so longevity is great (esp. for an EDT) but it's never projected at any time of the day, it just sits in the background. It's there if you choose to smell it.

I don't think it's totally me, it's not one I'm hugely intrigued by (an inexpensive blind buy to qualify for free shipping), but I don't hate it. I think there's a place for subtle scents like this and it would make a good, calming, bedtime perfume. The bottle is old fashioned to me, but I actually like it's retro feel (the glass is clear, the fragrance, a light blue).

Io sono stanca dei miei pensieri che escono dal gregge, di non essere un buon cane pastore capace di girargli intorno, arginare, compattare. Perché spesso sono il lupo che minaccia di sbranare le certezze. Sono stanca dei sospesi: la lampadina che devo cambiare da un anno e tre mesi. Devo imbiancare, ho ancora mezzo armadio pieno di vecchi vestiti, me ne dovrei disfare. È sempre stato più facile gettar via che sistemare.

Ma ci sono anche gli oggetti che non so buttare. L’oggetto del mio rancore, l’oggetto del desiderio, l’oggetto delle mie angosce, l’oggetto della mia malinconia, l’oggetto dell’invidia, sono un’accumulatrice seriale di piccole ossessioni.

Sono stanca perché il vero riposo per me è la soddisfazione del darmi da fare, anzi di fare fatica. Sono stanca e un po’ suonata, ogni tanto ripenso a quando ero più giovane e innamorata, così innamorata da potermi concedere il tormento che costruivamo noi, con dubbi inesistenti.

Ancora mi sorprende quanta resistenza si possa fare ad accettare la felicità. Oggi sono stanca della precarietà. Sono stanca del “per ora”, delle mani avanti che sono sempre le mie, della mia incapacità di pensare per assoluti, del senso di allerta che mi abita.

Ci diciamo che stiamo attraversando un periodo complicato. Una fase. Ma la vita è una fase complicata dell’esistenza. È che la complicazione non è circoscritta e il periodo di cui sopra non si attraversa e via, quando trovi le strisce.

Se tocchi il fondo, immagini di scendere giù, verso un abisso di tristezza, ma poi di picchiare la pianta del piede e risalire rapido. E invece no, ti aspetta la merdosissima maratona nei fondali, anfibi disperati che non siamo altro, con le branchie che fanno contatto coi condotti lacrimali.

“Sei stanca” mi chiedi?

Sì. Ma per ora il gregge dei pensieri è in salvo, anche stasera il lupo non si è visto arrivare. Sono stanca, siamo stanchi, ma non c’è tempo di pensare…

Blue Fragrance Week; after yesterday's Blue Monday, I'm continuing wearing blue coloured perfumes all week. For bed last night (Monday), I wore Paul & Joe Refreshing Mist in 001 Mediterranean Breeze.

The brand have dabbled in fragrances previously, but none of the Refreshing Mists are listed on Fragrantica, which could be because they're not totally classed as perfumes. You can spray these on the face, body and hair for a refresh as well as for the actual scent. This particular one wasn't part of the original (5) line-up, but launched last summer as a limited edition.

All the bottles and lids are the same, in this (actually really nice) frosted glass with the chrysanthemum pattern on the lid and label. The label is the only thing that differs between the scents, this one suitably white and blue, perfect for it's name. Other than it combining "citrus, green and floral notes", I have no note breakdown or info about what's inside.

Last night was my first time using it and I own all the mists and know they are light, so generously sprayed both arms. Upon spraying, it was really, really pretty, but then I couldn't smell anything. I cleaned my teeth, then decided to douse myself in it; both arms, neck, hair, pyjamas. I was so soaked, I was bordering on sticky, my t-shirt damp, but again, pretty, then nothing. There's no time to decipher any notes, it's gone so quickly. It's so disappointing because it has potential and could I smell it for more than a couple of seconds, I think I'd really like it. I've only used a few of the others and I don't recall them performing so poorly.

Today (Tuesday), I spied this light blue bottle in my collection, that's been long neglected. (From Fragrantica): Moschino Funny! EDT by Moschino is a floral, fruity fragrance, launched in 2007 by Antoine Maisondieu.

Top Notes; Bitter Orange, Red Currant, Pink Pepper Middle Notes; Green Tea, Peony, Jasmine, Violet Base Notes; Cedar, Musk, Oakmoss and Amber.

This is predominantly a citrus scent, so I'd classify it as that before fruity. I'd forgotten how nice this actually is, I was expecting sharpness (citric scents aren't top of my favourites list), but this was really lovely. It's bright and refreshing, the orange is juicy and sweet, you can almost taste it. Even the musk in the base (again a note I'm usually not fond of) seems to sparkle. The whole thing reminded me of a glass of lemonade when the fizz gives off this juicy aroma, tantalising your taste buds. It never turned sharp nor did it give me a headache. There's a hint of Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea about it.

The projection in the beginning was decent, but then remained very close to the skin throughout the rest of the day (I'd sprayed generously). After 6 hours, it's barely there on my arm. The bottle is a nice-weight glass in graded blue, deepening at the base with a silver heart shaped lid and pink ribbon, finished with a button around the bottle's neck. If I refer back to the reason I wore blue fragrances this week (Blue Monday), then this one is the perfect mood-booster for that, there's something happy about it that makes me smile. I also think leaving it to macerate all these months has done wonders. It was another blind-buy and one you can usually find pretty cheaply, so definitely worth a try in my opinion.
