Chapter Two - Failing Expectations

Story: An Everlasting Connection Chapter Two: Failing Expectations Rating: T Word Count: 2,802 Disclaimer: This chapter is heavily based around events of the Goblet of Fire, but in Viktor's perspective. Also, as his first language is not English, it should be assumed that all thoughts and spoken words are in his native tongue unless specified otherwise. Summary: The story of Viktor Krum and Hermione Granger, from the first time they came into each others sights until the day one of them says the binding words of ‘I do’. Can they defeat the odds of their everlasting connection to find happiness elsewhere, or will they admit the fact that their lives are brighter with the other near?

"You must get the snitch straight away Krum. You understand? Do whatever it takes. Cause us penalties if you must. Just. Get. The. Snitch."

The very same words had been spoken to Viktor time and time again since he'd officially become part of the Bulgarian team earlier in the summer (after a year of being a reserve player due to age). As always, he nodded curtly, keeping his face stoic, void of all emotions.  The teams manager barely waited to see Viktor's confirmation before turning away, going to speak with the other team members. Much as Viktor loved the sport he’d grown up with, joining the team had tainted it somewhat. At Durmstrang, though his level of skill was far above those around him, his team mates worked together much more fluidly. Here, he carried the entire team, and everyone in the world now knew it. 

Turning back to his locker, he finished pulling his gear on, aware of the mutterings around him. The manager now informed everyone that scoring should not be their first priority. Keeping the Irish team from scoring came before all else. Attempting to zone them out, Viktor slipped into a trance, going over plays in his mind until he heard the coach call them to go on the pitch. With a deep breath, Viktor grasped his broom and fell into the back of the line. In front of him, the others whispered to each other, assuming he wouldn’t hear - or maybe they didn’t care. Yet, he heard them. Heard every bitter comment about how he must think so much of himself to not socialize with them. It was all more or less the same that he’d heard in the past few weeks as they drew closer to the end of the Cup. No one cared about the team that struggled to score when they had the youngest professional player who carried the team among them. 

Giving himself a mental shake, Viktor focused on what they were doing as the doors opened and the most deafening roar cascaded over him. It was near enough to knock the breath out of him, but instead he gripped his broom tighter as the others mounted theirs and zoomed out. As the teams keeper mounted his own, Viktor followed suit, waiting a heart beat after the other had flown out to join him. 

The roaring crowd was nothing compared to all of the blinking lights, the flying banners, and the way the pitch walls reflected himself all around him. While somewhat used to the bigger stadiums since starting the Cup this year, none of them had been anything like this. As he flew with his team, he looked around in mental awe, his heart hammering in his chest. It was real. He was here, the very place he’d dreamed of since being a child. Hearing shouts and cheers of his name only amplified the moment, and it wasn’t until everyone flying in front of him began to go into a formation to start the game that he could shake away the feeling. 

Game time. 

It turned out to be the greatest game of Viktor’s life. While he’d competed with some amazing teams over the past few weeks, none of them compared quite to the Ireland team. He’d zoned out the score keeping as they began, focusing only on what he absolutely had to. Where the other seeker was, where the bludgers were, and looking for the snitch. At the back of his mind, he did realize that the other team was scoring far too much, too fast. And so, he used a tactic he hated - he forced the other seeker to gain an injury in order to have extra time to search. Admittedly, he didn’t think his opponent would fall for such a stupid scheme, but it seemed he overestimated the other seeker. 

As the game continued to wear on, Viktor grew internally more frantic, wondering why he couldn’t find the snitch. Keeping a close eye on the other seeker, all while desperately searching for the snitch, Viktor ignored the drama beneath them until-- WHAP! Groaning, he felt pain sear through his face that was unlike any other pain he’d felt before. His entire head began to ache, and he lost focus of what he was doing for a brief moment until the green robes he’d been watching suddenly went into a dive. 

No time to think about the pain now. 

Viktor lowered himself flat against his broom, diving after Lynch, putting all of his weight into it to force his broom to fly down quickly as possible. The beating of his heart and excitement surging through him numbed the pain, though he itched to wipe away the blood, he ignored it. Instead, he focused on the glimmering ball he could only just barely see past Lynch as he edged around the other player, slowly outstretching a hand.

This was it. They likely wouldn’t win, but they could be saved from being a total embarrassment. He could catch his very first World Cup Final snitch right now. The thought pushed him forward just enough to feel his fingers brush along the smooth surface. He was only just barely aware of how close to the ground they were coming and with one last push, he shoved Lynch’s hand out of the way and grabbed the snitch before swiftly pulling his broom upwards, pushing his weight back to help it ease back up into the air, a grin forming on his face as he heard the whistle blow and a slump from beneath him. Both sounds were soon forgotten as the crowd burst into a roar that put all others from tonight to shame. Ireland had won - but he had caught the snitch. 

For that, he could be proud. 

With the snitch still held proudly above his head, Viktor slowly started to feel the effects of having lost so much blood. Needing to grip his broom tighter, he slowly lowered himself to the ground, his brain feeling more light and nauseated than he could ever remember. All of the blinking, blinding lights came into sharp focus until the mediwitches surrounded him, all fussing with such strong accents he could barely understand them, particularly with the screaming from every corner of the pitch. 

“Leave him, leave him! We must go!” Viktor heard the voice of the coach, speaking in rough English to those around Viktor. Having gotten used to the gentle touches of those who were trying their best to patch him up and access the damage, his coaches tight grip on his arm as he yanked Viktor away was rather unwelcome, but necessary. Viktor’s own hand remained clenched around the snitch, unable to quite believe this was all real. He’d caught the snitch in his first world cup finals. His mind ran through the list of names who had managed the same feat... a very tiny list. 

Viktor allowed himself to be shoved up to the top box, his mind very much in a dream like state as his nose and head continued to throb. The pain was a secondary thought to him though. There was too much awe inside of him, that he’d managed to do what seemed to be impossible. He barely noticed the angered looks being thrown back at him from his team mates as they climbed. The noise from the crowd made it easy to block out their bitter words. 

He had done what he was meant to - he caught the snitch as soon as possible. Had the game gone on, the gap between their scores would have been larger. Something he was sure the experts would agree on when reports went out the next day. 

Being led into the top box, Viktor watched numbly as his team mates were introduced and shook the hands of the ministers, only then realizing he still held tightly to the snitch. While he hoped no one was watching, he switched the snitch to his other hand, his fingers aching dully now that they were freed. Then, his own name was called, and the crowd... it was almost as loud as it’d been when Ireland were crowned winners. Something Viktor was sure he would never grow used to as he numbly shook the hand of the over eager man with the too bright cap on, before shaking his own ministers hand. 

As they were guided to the side, Viktor looked across the box to see who else was among them, hearing a familiar name whispered among his team mates. Harry Potter. He looked in that direction, vaguely curious, only to catch eyes  with a girl. Not anyone he recognized in the slightest. Something about her however, caught his attention. The bushy hair, slightly bucked teeth, not a trace of makeup, and clothes certainly not in style. There was a light in her eyes, but not one he had grown used to. In fact, she didn’t seem very interested in him at all, as her eyes broke contact and followed the current action, where as the red head beside her continued to gape at Viktor. Clearing his throat, he clapped his hands politely for the winning team, pushing thoughts of the strange girl aside. 

The media frenzy that followed was unlike anything Viktor had dealt with before. After answering seemingly the same five questions over and over until he’d gotten cotton mouth, his captain finally had mercy on him, informing them all that he needed to go celebrate his amazing catch with his team. Viktor fought to keep his face neutral at the comment. No doubt he wouldn’t see his teammates again until next season. None would want to look him in the eye now, unless to blacken it again (thanks to the healers who quickly patched him up before his interviews). No, instead the man lead him to the private tents with security surrounding them to keep fans out, and then to Viktor’s private tent. 

“You did exactly as I intended today, I am proud,” his coach informed him as he entered the tent, not making eye contact with his teammates and their friends who’d begun to drink and party outside their tents. Viktor merely grunted as he began pulling his uniform off and tossing it aside. “It is unfortunate that we could not win, but I knew that to be the likely outcome. It would have been better had you caught the snitch earlier, but I cannot fault you too much on that.”

Viktor’s belt made a sharp snapping sound as he whipped it against the back of his chair, losing his patience. “If you expect me to apologize for not being able to catch the snitch in the first five minutes, you have come expecting the wrong thing. Perhaps had our other players been better prepared and not quite so hung over, I would have had time to catch it within winning chances.” It was not often that he lost his temper, but today had pushed his limits. It ought to have been the best day of his life, and instead, he was being criticized for recognizing his team would never pull their act together enough to win the cup. 

His coach flinched, backing away, but still with a glare in his eye. “Careful how you speak to me Viktor. Players can always be replaced.” 

“And what a fool you would look to replace the seeker who caught the golden snitch at the world cup. You may leave now. I have things to do.” Truth be told, Viktor wanted a moment alone before his headmaster found him. A chance to breathe and recollect himself after a chaotic day. 

The older man grunted, still glaring. “Do not think this conversation is over, Krum. This team will never come together unless you become part of it. Brooding and believing yourself to be better does favors for no one.” With that he turned around, and Viktor gripped the back of the chair so tightly his knuckles turned white. 

How ridiculous. He wanted nothing more than to be part of the team. To be taken off of this pedestal that everyone had forced him on. Being the youngest Quidditch player in the league to make it to the Cup had placed a target on his back. Certainly, he’d never had so many photos of himself taken in his entire life. It was an uncomfortable thing, but not one that anyone cared to listen to. Sighing deeply, he pulled the rest of his clothes off and headed into his restroom to bathe and redress. 

By the time he’d settled into an arm chair with a bottle of rum to ease his nerves, the flap of his tent opened to reveal his headmaster. 

“Viktor! How proud of you I am. You were unlike anything else out there today! It has made it all the more certain you will be chosen by the Goblet this year. Yes, this will be the year you become a legacy, my boy. A true legacy. Not a person in our world will forget your name.” The mans blackened teeth shone with happiness that merely made Viktors stomach churn. 

With a shake of a head, he swirled the drink in his goblet. “That is, if it happens. Nothing has been finalized yet, has it?” Viktor reminded him. His headmaster had cornered him at a practice nearly a month ago to tell him the Triwizard Tournament was returning this next year. And at the time, Viktor had been enticed and excited by the idea to make a name for himself. After all of this however... a reluctance had built. The idea was becoming the Tournament winner was still very much enticing, but Viktor wasn’t certain he was cut out for all of the media attention that would come with such a thing. Part of him almost hoped it would be pushed back a year, making him no longer an option. 

Karkaroff waved off his uncertainty. “Finalization's are simply formalization's, my boy. It’s happening. Pack for warmer weather this year, you’ll be spending winter here,” his grin somehow grew. 

Viktor hummed before taking a drink. “The Potter boy, do we think he will apply?” he wondered lightly. He could not deny his interest in the boy. Who couldn’t be interested in the boy who lived -- the only one to ever survive the Dark Lord?

The headmaster scoffed before helping himself to some of Viktor’s alcohol. “No. Not that it would matter if he could. You would sweep the floor with him! Of that I am sure! But he is too young to compete, I believe. The ministry here is pushing no one under age. Better for you. Means no one can doubt that you had a leg up on anyone. Too many times past winners have been accused of only winning because their competitors were younger! No, we need a true hard win, Viktor.” 

Viktor merely hummed in agreeance, not caring too much about the subject. If the Tournament did happen, he cared not who he faced. So long as he could prove he could accomplish the tasks, that was what mattered. Winning at all costs, being the first to the finish line. Everything else mattered little. 

“Ah, my. Much as I would love to stay and chat, Viktor, I must be on my way,” Karkaroff sighed, looking at his watch and setting his goblet down. “Get some rest, why don’t you? You look as though you’ve not slept in days.” 

Viktor nodded, watching his headmaster leave before putting a charm on his tent to lock anyone else from coming in, and then silencing it, desperately needing some peace and quiet. Knowing his family hadn’t come today, he could safely assume no one else would bother him for the night. And with the teams tents being so far from the public tents, no one would be able to sneak in and bother the players. For those reasons, and those reasons alone, Viktor was the only one able to sleep peacefully that night. 

It wasn’t until the next morning that he learned of the horrific news. His team had already been port keyed away, and his captain made certain he was given the next one out back to Bulgaria. Rage consumed him the more he found out about what he’d missed in his peaceful slumber. And the more the anger built, the more passionate he grew about wanting the Tournament to happen. Wanting to ensure no one else from his school could participate. No, he would not let his classmates win with dark methods as most would surely use. He would prove that someone with a pure heart would beat out any possible darkness. 

Darkness would not win. Not with him around.

When Tyler managed to seek help for his assault, Monty was arrested and imprisoned, and was subsequently killed in his cell. At the same time, Ani successfully (for now) pinned Bryce's murder on him, even though he had an alibi; he was sleeping with a student from another school at the time. Monty is now dead, and we won't get to see the character learning to come to terms with his sexuality, or dealing with the consequences of his actions. Craftsmanship is undeniably an art that deserves to be praised and preserved. In the UK you can find a couple of fine examples of the best of British arts and crafts featuring techniques that have been preserved throughout the ages. Today we’re taking a deeper look at some of the best craftsmen (and women) that have taken the best British craftsmanship and obtained some amazing results.

Alison Lowry

One of the best European master artisans dedicated to glass sculpture, Alison Lowry is a glass artist from Northern Ireland who specializes in the ancient glass casting technique of pâte de verre. Originally from a textile background, Alison started working with glass and fell in love with it as an expressive yet challenging material.

Amanda Simmons

Amanda Simmons is one of the best European glasswork master artisans. She is based in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. She undertook studies in glass and architecture at Central St Martins School of Art in London and set up her studio near Castle Douglas in 2006.

Currently, her work is influenced by research at Lyth Arts Centre in Caithness with scientists based at the Environmental Research Institute in Thurso.

Eleanor Lakelin

Eleanor Lakelin, currently considered as one of the best European master artisans, is a London based artist dedicated to wood sculpture. She has a deep understanding and love for natural materials which in turn has transformed her artistic life.

For example in her “Echoes of Amphora Series” (2018) she created vessels from horse chestnut burr, hand turned, sandblasted and bleached. In “Void Vessel” (2015) the piece was entirely made with Horse Chestnut Burr and in “Ferrous Shift” she used sequoia wood.

She loves wood, its history and origin and the fact that it is a living material. She has spent many years perfecting form and experimenting with how the properties of wood can be used to express the rhythm of time and our relationship with the earth.

Eleanor exhibits a lot of her precious art pieces internationally and her artworks won many awards and commendations. Her wood sculptures are present in numerous prestigious collections worldwide.

Max Lamb

Max Lamb was born in 1980 and he combines traditional and ancient craftsmanship techniques with digital design. He is known for using highly uncommon approaches to natural materials, including pouring pewter onto sand, and volcanic rock. He is also known for his energetic and long-lasting methods of production.

Lamb attended Amersham & Wycombe College for art and design in 2000 where he received several awards. He also received a City and Guilds Photography Certificate in 2000. He later attended Northumbria University, receiving a degree in Three Dimensional Design. In 2006 he achieved his master’s degree in design products from the Royal College of Art. A year later he started teaching Industrial Design at Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in Switzerland, and later also taught at the Royal College of Art.

A good example of the best of Max Lamb’s work is his “Cleft Chair” (2016). This is a branch, of his Urushi Stool (092) made with the same technique of cleaving a freshly cut log in its ‘green’ state using a traditional froe.

Lee Broom

Lee Broom is one of the UK’s foremost product designers and a premium global design brand. With his highly innovative luxury furniture and lighting designs, his work is celebrated and retailed across the globe.

Since 2007, when his company was born, he created over 100 furniture, accessory and lighting pieces, all of which are designed, manufactured and retailed under the Lee Broom brand. He also collaborated with several other top global brands including Christian Louboutin, Mulberry, Bergdorf Goodman and Wedgwood.

Taking inspiration from his background in fashion design, Lee tries to embrace and explore new themes while keeping his predominant and unique style. Using the highest quality materials, combined with the latest technology, Lee Broom constantly evolves and innovates, resulting in his signature, a mix of classicism and modernity.

Lee Broom’s wonderful designs can be seen in hotels, restaurants and homes across the world as well as on magazine covers and in newspapers internationally. His masterpieces are both unique yet familiar as he uses classic styles and reinterprets them in original and contemporary ways with an unexpected edge.

Some good examples of Lee Broom’s legacy are the Mini Crescent Chandelier” (made with opaque spherical mini pendant light with crescent-shaped brushed brass fascia) and the “Hanging Hoop Chair” (made with the combination of two brass plated steel circular hoops with a seat and backrest upholstered in Kvadrat wool).

One of the most beautiful accomplishments is the “Time Machine” grandfather clock which was Hand-crafted from Carrara marble with the same basis as a traditional engineered clock mechanism with a solid brass pendulum, weight and hands.

“Optical Light” is also another of his highlights made from powdered coated spun steel and blown from opaque glass, the asymmetry of the black stripes are in contrast to the classic spherical shape of the globe. Fun fact: When viewed from all sides, Optical’s linear pattern changes at every angle.

Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley

 Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley are internationally considered as two of the best British artists sculpting in wood. They use organic materials, such as oak wood, and give them a solid, dramatic aesthetic and an authentic beauty with woodworking techniques. They are two of the finalists in the 2019’s Loewe Craft Prize.

In here our highlight goes to  “Curved Block Seat” which is made of oak and carved from solid blocks of oak. Partridge and Walmsley are committed to revealing the inherent beauty of their materials their craftsmanship is in service to the materials with which they work. This honesty of approach is shown in this work’s compelling scale and simplicity of form.

Laura Hart

Suffolk’s glass artist Laura Hart, one of the best master artisans in Europe, brings to life fine glass sculptures and functional glass tableware from her studio in rural Cavendish. She specializes in fused and kiln formed glass orchids, glass wildflowers and meticulously detailed fused and cast glass butterflies. Laura’s work brings several traditional glass making techniques together with the addition of sterling silver for anatomical detail. She focuses on fused glass production uniting 21st-century 3D design applications with ancient glassmaking techniques.

Her beautiful “Orchid Mirror” was featured in the Financial Times, ‘How to Spend it Magazine’. In this unique piece, there are three appaloosa phalaenopsis orchids set on a delicate metallic stem circling this large round mirror. This ends up making it become a beautiful looking glass by day and an ambient lighting piece by night.

James Devereux

 The glassworker James Devereux, currently one of the best master artisans in Europe, started to train in glass sculpture at the age of 15. Through this, he discovered a natural talent for this craft, specializing in working with hot glass, creating solid forms as well as blown pieces.

In 2008, James opened his first studio in the Wiltshire countryside. He became a glass technician at the Royal College of Art in London in 2009, a position that he held until 2013. After leaving London in the same year, he started a studio with Katherine Huskie in the British countryside. James’s mastery of numerous skills and his high technical level contributed to the creation of unique and innovative works. I tend to not get overtly political on this platform very often, but current events necessitate it.

The Environmental Protection Agency is already under attackon multiple fronts. So is the National Park Service. Less than a week in, and the new administration is already trampling over the environmental work of the past several decades like a bunch of drunk tourists deliberately stomping all over ecologically sensitive off-trail areas–or, you know, toppling precariously balanced rock formations because they think it’s funny.

I have been an environmentalist for much of my life. I worked as a field and phone canvasser in Pittsburgh for Clean Water Action. I have done many hours of volunteer time doing everything from water pollutant testing to invasive species removal. I have a Masters-level certification in ecopsychology to go along with my MA in counseling psych, and my graduate work included rigorous training on research methods, statistics, and how to interpret scientific studies. I just started coursework for the Oregon Master Naturalist certification. I read voraciously about ecology and ecosystems and how they work–and how they break if we apply too much pressure to them. I arguably know more than the majority of Americans about nature and related topics, because I make it my business to do so.

Part of how I am able to do this is through the transparency of scientific research, particularly that funded by my tax dollars. Even if it’s filtered through popular media and put in layperson’s terms, it’s still a vector for knowledge by the people and for the people. A lot of it also comes from outreach on the part of scientists, national park employees, and other experts sharing what they know with the public. We need to have that communication between specialists, and those of us who are affected by what they are working on.

In the past four days, we have seen nothing short of an assault on this communication. This isn’t just a matter of “Waaaaahhh, we don’t get to use our nifty park service Twitter accounts any more!” This is a breach of the First Amendment, specifically the freedom of speech. EPA employees are now prohibited from talking about anything related to their research–research that is not classified, and which is paid for by the public–even on their personal social media accounts.

This sets a dangerous precedent. This administration came in already screaming about how they want to dismantle the various environmental safeguards that have been built up since the 1970s–the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts, the EPA–and how they want to push through the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Keystone Access Pipeline. If they gag anyone who tries to speak out about the massive negative effects of these actions, then they win. They get their money, they line the pockets of fossil fuel executives and investors, and the long-term goal of creating a more sustainable future is sold off for short-term greed.

And we lose. I have spent the past twenty years with my finger on the pulse of conservation and environmental issues. I have read research reports and statistics. I have done field work as a citizen scientist. I am paying more attention to these things than most people give to anything. To allow President Skroob’s* administration to wipe away the hard work of the past five decades is to doom future generations.

Because this is what we had before the EPA, before the CWA and the CAA. It never ceases to amaze me how people, even otherwise intelligent people, can so easily forget the recent past. The laws and regulations that are in place are there for very good reasons–there was a definite problem, and because the people responsible refused to take responsibility, the government had to step in. It worked, and it helped the problem, and now we no longer have the Cuyahoga River on fire.

I look to the past, and I learn from it. I don’t stomp my feet and say “BUT I WANT MORE MONEY AND THE EPA IS IN THE WAY OF ME GETTING MORE MONEY!” I look at the condition the environment was in when the EPA was formed, when the CWA and CAA and other important environmental laws were enacted. I look at the reasons for those things.

I look to the present, and I examine it. I look at all the work that STILL has to be done to repair the damage we’ve done. I read research that came about in part because of the water testing I did on the Columbia River for the better part of a year. I pull Scotch broom and other invasive plants out of the soil on the land in Washington that I am helping to rehabilitate. I consider how the laws in place can help further improve and stabilize these and other damaged places.

I look to the future, and I hope for it. I am only here for a few more decades, if I’m lucky. But there will be humans on this planet likely for many centuries to come, and I want them to have a good life. Part of that includes healthy air to breathe and clean water to drink, and the biodiversity that is necessary to maintain both and more. And that’s not going to happen if Skroob and his ilk have their way.

So I offer you a few quick things you can to do help:

–Contact your elected officials. Phone is best, but email works too. Tell them your concerns, Give them specifics. Contact them any time an issue comes up that you want them to work toward fixing. Even if they’re against your view–especially if they are–give ’em hell anyway. Here’s an easy way to find who your elected officials are.

–If you have Twitter, follow the Alternative US National Park Service account, where national park employees are anonymously sharing important information. Oh, and a healthy dash of snark, too. Same goes for the BadIands (note the I instead of L) NPS account.

–Read about the Scientists’ March on Washington, and consider volunteering toward that effort. Scientific illiteracy is becoming more prevalent, especially as our public education system continues to degrade due to lack of funding, and as the culture of deliberate ignorance rises.

–If you have a few dollars to spare, consider donating to the National Parks Service. I’m guessing that by the time Skroob is out of office the NPS’s already inadequate federal funding will be even more thin on the ground.

–Most importantly, keep educating yourself on environmental issues. Listen to the people actually doing the work, not the talking heads trying to squeeze more cash out of the system at the expense of everyone else. Read books and magazines. Watch documentaries on Netflix. If you can, take science classes at your local community college–you don’t have to actually work toward a degree. Go to seminars, meetups, group hikes led by naturalists, anything that gives you a chance to learn. Learning shouldn’t stop once you’re done with school. Let your curiosity guide you!

These are dangerous times, and it’s going to be hard to not feel despair. (I recommend the writings of Joanna Macy as a good antidote.) Engage in self-care when and as you need to, and keep building your resilience. If you feel all alone, remember that at least I’m here with you in this fight, and I have a pretty good bunch of people at my side, too.

The opportunity arose quite suddenly to be the manager of our local nemplsfarmersmarket. I am no expert on how to run a farmers market, but the following are important concepts to consider when you are thinking of starting a farmers market for your community or taking over one as a manager.

Before you even begin to formulate your location, vendors, layout, marketing strategies you need to have a board of directors. This board will be the governing entity of your market. You will need people who are experienced in urban planning, business, the agricultural scene, and active with your community. It is also a good idea to talk to other farmers markets; how did they start their market? What advice do they have? Would they be willing to help you? Once you have your board members selected, you need to come up with a mission for your market. What do you stand for? What do you want your community to gain by your presence?

You can't have a farmers market without vendors. The type of vendor for your market really depends on your location. Here in Asheville, artisan vendors don't do great. Produce vendors those are the vendors you want. You need to make sure that they are not all selling the same crops. Variety is key. At our market we have five produce vendors. They all have different items for sale. With the new craze of food trucks, it would be a great idea to recruit one or many for your market. My market is a smaller farmers market and I found that it's best to try to reach out to food trucks that are just starting out. The ones that have been around for a longer period of time may consider your market - if it's on the small scale or just starting up - a waste of their time because they may not make what they would consider to be a good profit for their time.

Marketing is a deal. Based off data the best way to market is using social media; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,etc. These are valuable assets to any business. You can also use Google Business to let people know about your market. Social media posts are free, which is great when you are just starting out. Once you get your market sustainable cash flow, you can look into boosting posts on Facebook and Twitter. Both Facebook and Twitter offer you to set your advertising budget which allows for less stress; once your budget has been spent the advertising stops until you reset it. Another great idea is to partner up with local businesses that are willing to promote your market using their social media. From my experience going and talking to local restaurants, breweries, kitchen supply stores that do food demos are all great prospects.

Location! Location! Location! This is very important to nemplsfarmersmarket. Last year my market was behind a church in their parking lot. There was no road visibility. We lacked new customers due to no visibility. During the off season we worked diligently to find a new location that was more visible, had walk ability, as well as good parking. We are now partnering with a local business to use their parking lot which has road visibility, parking as well as walk ability for our neighborhood. This move was a win-win for everyone involved. Our customers are now their customers, and their customers are now our customers.

Cyber Crime is a violation of the cyber laws. The crimes committed over a digital platform or via the internet are diverse and complicated. It can be defined as a virtual attack on an individual, group or an organization’s reputation, financial stability, etc. Computers and digital platforms have become ubiquitous in our society, and thus it is very likely that any investigation will involve some form of digital evidence. [1] With the increase in the number and type of digital offences, the demand for digital forensic professionals and tools has increased. It is an emerging field and with the development in the tools and techniques to counter such crimes and violations, the cyber criminals comes with more advanced techniques to get away with the crime. Thus, with the ever increasing applicability of this field come various challenges. In this section we will discuss the growing application of Digital Forensics and also the Shortcomings and challenges faced. 

Application of Digital Forensics

Digital Forensics is a branch of forensic science that deals with digital evidences in solving a crime under the regulations of law. With the wide availability and use of various digital media and devices, and social media there are various branches of digital forensics such as mobile forensics, network forensics, database forensics, email forensics, etc. With increasing digital crime in each branch, digital forensics has wide applicability. 

The major applications of digital forensics are 

Crime Detection- There are various malwares and malicious activities that happen over digital media and networks, such as phishing, spoofing, ransomware, etc. 

Crime Prevention- There are various cyber crimes that happen due to lack of security or existing unknown vulnerabilities, such as zero-day vulnerability. Hence, cyber forensics helps in finding out these vulnerabilities and avoiding such crimes to occur. 

Crime Analysis- This is the main application of digital forensics. It involves- [2]

Preservation- This process involves protecting the crime scene and the digital evidence or setup from further manipulation and photographing and video graphing the crime scene, for future reference. Also this process involves stopping any ongoing command that may be linked to the crime. 

Identification- This process involves identifying the digital media and devices that can serve as the potential evidence. 

Extraction- This process involves the imaging of the digital evidence, (to maintain the authenticity of the original evidence), for further analysis. 

Documentation- This involves maintaining the chain of custody and documenting all the evidence collected from the crime scene.

Interpretation- This involves making of a report by the digital forensic expert about the analysis conducted on the digital evidence using various tools such as FTK (for imaging and mounting of evidences),Sleuth Kit and Autopsy (analyzes disk images and recover files from them) etc. and presenting it in the court of law. The conclusion is based on the evidence collected and reconstructing data fragments. 

Challenges in Digital Forensics

The major challenges faced by digital forensic professionals are the growing number and size of evidence to be analyzed and the cybercriminals being equally equipped with anti-forensic tools to erase that digital evidence or to produce a delay in the digital evidence generation process. 

Few of the current challenges in the field of digital forensics are listed as follows-[3]

Digital Media types- There are various digital devices used these days. The technique used for one specific device cannot be used for some other device because of the different characteristics of each device. Moreover, the digital forensic expert must be equipped with the use of software for analysis and also the device being analysed. 

Online Disks- The large firms store their data on online disks. These generate a huge amount of data on online disks, and thus, imaging of such huge data takes a lot of time and also requires the firm to shut their services until the imaging is complete. 

Anonymity of the IP- This is one of the big challenge to cyber forensics. IP address allows network identification and location addressing of a device connected to a network. However, IP address can easily be spoofed by cybercriminals and hence can become a hindrance in the address location of the device. Similar to IP address spoofing, there is MAC address and email address spoofing as well that becomes a challenge for the digital forensic expert.  

Anti- Digital Forensic- This is used by cybercriminals and also used legitimately by individuals who want to protect their privacy. Anti-digital forensics is a set of techniques and measures used to slow down or incapacitate the process of investigation by manipulating, erasing, or obscuring the data. One of the most commonly used anti-digital forensic techniques is RootKit that has been used by cybercriminals for years to hide the activities of the malicious code.

Testing and Validation- With the cybercriminals getting more equipped, there is always a need to update the software to efficiently analyze the evidences and also provide valid results that can be made admissible in the court of law, like the use of Virtual Machines. It is a forensic investigation tool that allows the investigators to clone the image from the target computer, virtually, but when the image is booted on a machine with different hardware, it installs the missing drivers and thus makes the image a modified one, thus renders it inadmissible in the court of law. Conclusion

The digitalization and growing use of computers and mobile phones in every household, and the companies linked through networks have increased the crimes happening virtually. Thus, the role of digital forensics comes into play and with the cybercriminals getting more equipped; the challenges faced in this domain of forensic science also increase. Using these factors and considering the unique features that are offered by Bitcoin our analysis suggests that the top cryptocurrency is here to stay. Below we are going to look at each factor and see how Bitcoin fulfills them.

  Compatibility With Other Innovations

An easily compatible technology requires the adopter to make less if any alterations in their lives so that they can comfortably use the technology. So a compatible technology has to be consistent with past experiences and also the needs of adopters. For example, the reason why the Samsung Galaxy series is successful it’s because customers already have had other phones that performed the same functions as the Samsung phones. With the Galaxy series, Samsung has just incorporated all of those functions.
