In Scottish Folklore the Kelpie is a shapeshifting water monster that appears to be a Horse on Land that entices people to try to ride on it, but once they get on the Kelpie it's thick weedy mane will wrap around the rider and refuse to let go as the Kelp charges headlong to the nearest body of water to drown the rider! Sounds a lot like how Crocodiles hunt, grabbing creatures who wander too close to the water's edge and then dragging them down to a watery grave. I don't know why I didn't thinks of this sooner! Did you know there is a prehistoric family of crocodilians called Planocraniidae that had hoof-like claws and was thought to gallop like a horse! Sounds a lot like a Kelpie huh...I also love the idea that you could look at it from a distance and think "Is that a horse" Then it turns around and it has a Crocodile face! HA! In Soaring I imagine this is a Nocturnal creature. It spends the day in the water mostly sleeping and then comes up on land at night where it hides among foliage for prey, will charge them down when they don't expect, and then return to the water.

A cloud walker.
Esstas can trap small clouds within their head and leg fluff which allows them to "pollinate" other cloud flora by adding more mass to them. You can tell when a group of them made a nest in a cloud via its very large, dense spiky shape.
If you like what I do, feel free to leave a tip on Ko-Fi! :]

Here Be Dragons
Tumblr media
As I gaze upon this majestic tableau, I am transported to a realm where the mountains themselves bow in reverence to the titans that roam the skies. Here, before us, stretches a canvas of the world untamed, a landscape where the clouds whisper secrets to the soaring peaks.
Behold, the dragon! With wings unfurled, a canopy of fiery orange, it commands the heavens. Its scales, a mosaic of emerald and copper, glint like a trove of jewels bestowed upon the earth by the gods of old. This creature, this paragon of might and magic, rides the gusts with the grace of a sovereign without a crown. Its eyes, aglow with the wisdom of eons, survey the world below with a piercing intensity. It is the guardian of mysteries, the keeper of the eternal flame.
In its presence, we are reminded of the tales spun by the hearth—a tapestry of heroes and monsters, of battles fought in the shadow of such titanic beings. This dragon, with horns that aspire to pierce the firmament, is more than a mere beast; it is a symbol of all that is wild and free, a relic from an age when the world was still a map of wonder, waiting to be charted.
As storytellers, we are drawn to these vistas that exist beyond the reach of ordinary life, where our dreams take flight on dragon wings. And so, we commit this image to memory, a reminder of the boundless imagination that dwells within us all, whispering ever so gently, "There be dragons."

Bald eagles are magnificent birds. They are so big and so beautiful 😍 They are incredible!! Watching them soar is a phenomenal sight. The sheer power and force that they exude is humbling and commands great respect. I've been close enough to a bald eagle to hear the sound that is made by the displacement of the air as its wings flap. It's so loud. I am very lucky to live in a place where the eagles are abundant. Every time that I see them, I feel that I'm in the presence of something magical, and I am thankful for the experience. I've seen hundreds of eagles, but the impact they have on my soul never wanes. I love eagles, especially the bald eagle. They are regal and noble birds.
Be friends with those who value you and have enough character not to sell you...!!!

Goblins are small nocturnal burrowing animals that tend to avoid Dragons and other larger creatures, although some of them have grown accustomed to living close to or in Dragon's settlements like Rats or Racoons; Hiding during the day and then coming out at night to try to scavenge through Dragon's scraps. They also have a fascination with shiny objects, some Dragons will overturn Goblin Burrows to see if they have any hidden treasure. They can be a good indicator that there are valuable resources like Gold in the area. Goblins are typically too small for Dragons to consider much of a meal although some larger city dragons have claimed to seen giant fat Goblins in dark underground areas of the city, but Dragons typically would not want to eat a larger Goblin anyway as they are seen as disgusting vermin that probably carry diseases. It's probably for the bet not to handle them with your own claws, but in a healthy colony they are actually cleanly and engage in social grooming. However due to their burrowing and scavenging habits a lot of Dragon are known to kill a goblin if they see one, or kill colonies of Goblins found within civilization to stop them from tearing through buildings. Their front claws are meant for digging and their secondary claws are more dexterous for climbing, grooming, and handling food.

Monster Dating Show
Do you have a thing for humans? Have you always dreamed of seeing one with your very own eyes? Now is your chance! We’ve just made the impossible achievable, turned fiction into reality: a genuine human is waiting for you!
Tumblr media
You cross your legs and tap your arm nervously, eyeing the clock on the wall. In a few moments, you will be entering the grand stage.
Surely you must've skipped some steps. Most people start with dating apps, or smile particularly long at the barista signing their coffee cup. They don't just...star in a live show.
You never expected to be part of this nonsense, either. One day, you woke up with an invitation in your mail, asking you to be a bachelor for a new TV series. Why you, of all people? You're just an average person, living the average life. Perhaps that's exactly it, you thought at the time. You're more relatable to the audience.
Everything has been vague, shrouded in mystery. This should've convinced you to turn around, but the intrigue was too great: would you be matched with others? What kind of people were going participate? Where was this going to be aired, even? The channel they named was nowhere to be found. You've scoured the Internet, searching for CreatureTV, with no results.
Finally, you hear the ring, signaling your entrance. The grand doors open, and you're briefly blinded by the flood of spotlights. As your eyes accustom to the scene, you cannot help the silent gasp escaping your mouth.
Behind the stands, monstrous creatures and unholy beasts soar all the way to the tall ceilings. Disheveled werewolves, alien aberrations, eldritch horrors; tentacles slither across the floor, claws dig into the neatly decorated barriers.
"Could it be?" one monster remarks, fat strings of drool pouring out of its fanged mouth.
"A human! It truly is a human!"
You can only stare back in terror at the hundreds of eyes hungrily devouring you. As you unconsciously take a step back, the doors slam shut, nonchalant to your growing confusion.
"Fellas, take a step back!" the host shouts, slapping his scaly hand against the table. "It's a fragile one, you see? We don't want any accidents."
He takes a moment to clear his throat, then continues:
"As promised, this is the human you will be competing for. It's up to you to win (Y/N)'s heart. You already know the rules, I'm certain"
He glances at the camera, then at his watch.
"Without further ado, the courting begins...now."

Survival in Gaza is a fight for everyone and everything, not just humans. Every living thing is caught up in this nightmare, from the smallest creatures to the strongest among us. Take this little cat, for instance. She’s from Jabalia refugee camp, Al-Tarens neighborhood, house number 96, sixth street. Yeah, I know her address. She’s one of us, a Palestinian too, sitting alone in the rubble, her fur matted and dusty, with a raw, swollen eye that speaks of all she’s been through. She’s lost her hearing; explosions shake her tiny frame, but she doesn’t even react anymore. And yet, her will to survive? Unbroken.
In so many ways, she’s Gaza in a nutshell. Life here is a brutal, endless test of endurance. The genocide, the bitter cold, the soaring prices that turn basic needs like food, shelter, medicine into unattainable luxuries. These are things my family and countless others can only dream of.
For families in Gaza, survival itself has become a privilege. Nonprofits that once helped have pulled out, forced away by the very forces that keep us oppressed. And the few who stayed? Acting as middlemen, diverting the aid that’s supposed to be for us. Some prioritize their own networks in distributing aid; others resell what little is sent. Some even claim that half of donations get eaten up by "logistics costs." And then there’s aid that supposedly just "never arrives." So, families like mine are left to fend for ourselves, stripped of even the basic dignity that comes with having our needs met.
I look at this little cat, and I’m struck by the fragility of life here. My family’s hanging by a thread, surviving day to day in a world that seems indifferent to everything we’re going through. And yet, like her, we just keep going. Not because we’re strong or resilient, but because, honestly, what other choice do we have?
If this hits home for you, if this little cat’s fight feels like something you understand, please consider helping. Every donation, no matter the amount, goes directly to where it’s needed most. It can mean a bit of warmth, a moment of safety, maybe even a sliver of hope in these times that feel darker than anything.
From a heart that’s been broken too many times, thank you for standing with us.

Mood. We've had to stop playing games like this because we'd get unhealthily addicted to "number go up"
Like we'd get a withdrawal like effect, we'd get anxious about missing out on potential number going up if we didn't have whatever idle game we were obsessing over running in the background of our computer 24/7. Doing schoolwork? Keep it in the background and tab in like every 5 minutes to check in on it and buy upgrades. Planning D&D? Same thing.
Other games that use the "number go up" formula often got greedy with their players and kept trying to exploit their addiction to make them spend money, they made it more and more grindy until it was impossible for free-to-play people like us to keep up. (We didn't have a job, so no consistent money, so that's a reason why we were FTP. I dunno if we would've fallen into the trap of spending tons of money on games like these if we had a consistent income)
After getting disillusioned with our latest "number go up" simulator, I decided to try cookie clicker because I heard it wasn't pay to win. Yeah, I used an autoclicker too. And CC was pretty neat and all, it wasn't exploitative, which I appreciate- it was a grindy game in its purest state, grinding for the sake of grinding, gaining numbers for the hell of it, instead of trying to make money off of players- but since it wasn't actively trying to exploit us with FOMO it let us stop and think, and we realized we don't even enjoy these kinds of games that have taken up hours and hours of our lives.
So we made a rule for ourselves. No more of these games. From now on, we only play games if we're actually enjoying them, not just playing it out of obligation to make the number go higher. And it was really hard to stop playing since we got that same kind of withdrawal effect, the little itch in the back of the head that "I could be more productive right now, if I just had one of those games open in the background while I write I would be more productive" but we had to just fight that.
Anyway, that's not to say nobody should play these games. I'm not writing this to shame anyone for playing them, I'm not trying to sound preachy and hope that it doesn't come off that way- this comic just reminded me of our experience with these types of games and I felt like talking about it since we were addicted to these kinds of games for a good while. Some people will definitely be able to handle the addicting nature of these games better than we can. Some people genuinely enjoy the grind because it lets them just turn off their brain for a little while or not have to focus too much on something. Just be mindful to not let it become an addiction, is all.
So yeah that's the story of how we had an addiction to really grindy idle games
-Emyr (he/it)
Tumblr media
#video game addiction#game addiction#emyr post#we used to play idle champions of the forgotten realms an unhealthy amount since we really like D&D#to be fair that game taught us about a lot of important D&D figures we otherwise wouldn't recognize so we're grateful for that#Like Jarlaxle. we wouldn't have known who the hell he was while prepping our out of the abyss campaign without that game having him#and that game gave us an idea for his personality which will be really useful for playing him as an npc#and it also made him grow on us#idk how accurate the game's personality was of him but still we started out indifferent and ended up liking him#as much as we'd like to our adhd prevents us from reading the books with the big famous characters like him and drizzt and bruenor#so we would've had very little exposure to characters like these otherwise#maybe we should listen to audiobooks more. but i digress#they ended up introducing a battle pass thingy and we dipped#because the entire point of season pass battle pass whatever they're called is to exploit FOMO to get you to pay money and we have no money#So we got disillusioned and moved onto the next game#We also played creatures of sonaria on roblox for a very long time#it's not really an idle game in the traditional sense it's supposed to be a creature survival game#honestly the creature designs are awesome and the flight mechanics in that game really feels satisfying to use#like there's flapping and gliding and soaring and wind currents and you have to manage your stamina and aiming downwards makes you faster#really pleasing for me since i'm otherkin#most games just make flight like creative mode minecraft and it's boring#unfortunately it has a gacha system for getting new creatures and the only reliable way to get currency is to afk and check in now and then#so you don't get kicked for afk or die of hunger or thirst#the intention is that you get currency for playing the game more but there's nothing to do as long as you keep your creature fed and watere#the missions system helped this problem a little bit but not a huge amount in our experience#so that's why it becomes afk hell unless you want to hunt other players for sport but killing for fun is generally frowned on by many#since most players are just trying to afk for money since there's nothing else to do#so if you kill them it's really inconvenient for their grind but it's also the only form of entertainment unless a seasonal event is on#and if the seasonal event is on then you feel rushed to grind for event currency to get the cool new creatures#oh today i learned there's a maximum tag cap oops
