High republic babes, I made you something super cool!!!

These keychains are designed to feel like something Lina Soh gave to folks at the launch of Starlight beacon.

The text over the top says STARLIGHT BEACON in Aurebesh. The bottom says COMMEMORATIVE LAUNCH 7745 CRC. They are printed on marbled acetate.

CRC is the Coruscant Reckoning Calendar that was used pre-empire. (It also appears in Andor on Maarva’s funerary brick.)

So, initial thoughts on skeleton crew(spoiler free):

At-aatin is definitely sketchy, but maybe not intentionally? My personal theory is that it was one of Chancellor Soh's great works - a managed, ordered research world which was built to contain "all the treasures of the galactic republic" i.e. it's people, and their dreams/ambitions/hopes. And so the population are all expected to contribute to the great work of scientific discovery and advancement.

That would also explain the heavy use of droids, since a science world would be unlikely to have much in the way of a manual labour class.

The mural in Fern's home also reminded me very much of the phase 2 high republic/hyperspace rush era - which would be the sort of thing that a home on a science world would want to remember.

But I'm thinking: during the nihil crisis, they either had access to stormwall tech, or the research that created it, and decided to use it to protect themselves and effectively seal off the wider galaxy - which is where the barrier comes from. Then over hundreds of years, memories of the world faded until all the wider galaxy could remember was just the name & the idea of treasure.

And speaking of the pirates, I feel like it's a 50/50 coin flip whether Jod is just a pirate who happens to be force sensitive, or a Jedi who turned to piracy to survive order 66. I'm leaning towards the latter, as he really seems to remind me of Cade from the Legacy comics for some reason

I got Soh @arsquare's Kaishin bundle I won in a lottery last month 🤠

(on the second try that is, he was kind enough to send another copy bc the post office declined to give the first one to me bc I the parcel didn't specify my legal name :// whatever)

Whatever paper was used for the postcard, I love it (shiny in a nice subtle way) also Kaito is so cute here, I only now realized

I wonder if there's any practical sense to having business cards nowadays? anyways it's very pretty and now I DO wish more people had them. I'd be collecting....

I don't have any immediate use for the memo pad so I'm keeping it sealed but looks very good!

the art on the bookmark is amazing as I already have known, it is also more flexible than I thought, and the transparent effect is very nice! when i think about it, I probably prefer paper bookmarks, but it physically pains me whenever they get permanent creases, so plastic is safer that way... (also tassels give me a bit of an anxiety ever since since I used one I got as a gift from Urumqi students as a keychain and it fell apart lol...)

postcard and the book got a bit bent, nothing too serious but enough for me to side-eye our post service (for that, and stealing two of my zines now :/)

Soh was kind enough to add a drawing of fem Tsurumi for me too! (I went a bit insane for her for a month or two, here :DD) incredible <33

the quality of printing in the comic itself is really good, slightly glossy somehow? I haven't read manga in a while but I remember the paper being more plain/rough

can't even imagine the amount of effort that went into this comic, the kaishin santa origin story and three-month production period is wild. mad respect. I have so much respect for sequential artists in general.

I dont remember 1st edition well enough to spot differences but the art looks amazing… what's the word… crisp! crisp.

assorted story notes:

I remember reading it the first edition like "kaito in teitan? where's aoko :/" @ "AOKO!! :DD". she's merged with Ran here technically but it did feel like she played a role and wasn't only "Kaito's version of Ran", which I appreciated. ALSO I LOVE HOW SHE'S DRAWN SPECIFICALLY

progression of shinichi's faces after time reset is so funny :DD

SHIN BEING GHOSTED BY RAN AFTER CONFESSING… then choosing to be honest with her despite it…. Fire...

when I read the 1st edition, I found it not particularly shippy (I didn't know Soh doesn't ship it as that point, put it made sense in retrospect). Re-reading it, I see the romantic notes more clearly, but the sense of distance between them is also more obvious. that's kind of related to why the ship is loved, isn't it? It's easier for these two to be honest with each other who they barely know, rather than their lifetime friends, as far as canon goes. lol Aoko wasn't able to fix Kaito before and she won't fix him now...

Hello everyone!

As I take on more projects and expand my practice, it feels prudent to write monthly newsletter posts to keep followers up to date on what projects I'm currently undertaking. So here's the update for October/November 2024!

Zines

Currently I'm participating in two zines, both of which will likely be released in November!

One is the Detective Conan Fanzine, which is dedicated to the 26 movies of the franchise. I was assigned Movie 2, and I've posted a preview below! The full illustration will be available on INPRNT after the zine releases.

The other is the Counter-Pale Resistance (@de-fanzine-cpr-pale), which is a Disco Elysium fanzine. Participants take inspiration from song lyrics to create their piece, whether it's an illustration, comic, or writing. I created an illustration of Harry and Dolores for this zine! I quite like this piece-- it will be available on INPRNT after the zine releases, and I'll also be making gold foil postcards of it. Stay tuned!

Additionally, COMPASS: A Heishin Anthology (@haidocityzines), which I did several illustrations for, has been released for free digitally! Download your copy here. There are also merch bundles remaining if you're interested.

Merchandise

I've been putting together a Kaishin merch bundle in the past several months to go with a polished print version of Breaking Stasis (link goes to the original version-- polished version will be uploaded at a later date), my 2021 Kaishin Secret Santa manga. There's going to be a bookmark, a memopad, and a postcard in addition to the book. I'm waiting for the last of the merch samples to arrive! When they do, I'll photograph them and open up pre-orders.

Remember this? The pages are now fully toned and I've fixed the illustrations that were bothering me...

Pre-orders will likely open on Friday, Nov. 8th, and will close before the end of the month. A more detailed announcement is coming in early November!

Funny story, she was the one who actually got me into the sonamy fan world that I'm part of today!

I remember when I was in elementary I was searching up sonic boom on YouTube and then I saw a dub of your Boom! Baby comic and I remember the thumbnail was Amy just suffering during labour and I was standing in front of the TV like "Huh? Sonamy (soh nAA mee lol)???WHAZAT?? And then after that it just clicked and then I started being this heck of a sonamy fan lol
