#Snape wasn’t aware and thinks James gave her a love potion

If you're alright with another Harry Potter ask I'd love to see your take on the Gringotts Independence Test trope; since it tends to be so over-the-top with character bashing (which doesn't make it any less of a guilty pleasure 😅), and you really excel at exploring 'good' canon characters being antagonistic without completely changing their personalities
This is 10000000000% one of my fav tropes and I pride myself on being able to make antagonists without changing everything (though I do have the same guilty pleasure. Sometimes a good old ‘Indy’ Harry story is fun). EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ASSHOLE TIME!
"What is this?" Harry asked, staring at the parchment paper. He'd decided to inquire if his vault had an account manager or something when he'd gotten bored wandering around Diagon. Being introduced to Steelclaw. The goblin had insisted on an inheritance test, explaining that due to an incident a century back where a young orphan had his entire fortune stolen by his guardian at the time, Gringotts insisted.
(Harry would learn later this was what resulted in the Malfoy-Weasley hatred as the Weasley fortune had been stolen by the people they trusted to keep it safe. All legally to.)
On the parchment paper was his name. It said his mother was Lily Rose Potter nee Evans.
It said his father was Severus Snape.
“Your mother left a letter,” Steelclaw said, holding it out to him. Harry took it with shaking hands.
Dear Harry,
If you’re reading this neither me nor James are there to tell you about it. I’m so sorry you found out this way.
When I was a child I had a friend, Severus Snape. At first I thought he was great fun, so smart and happy to teach me all about the magical world. As I got older though I began noticing his crueler aspects. He would team up with his classmates to target others, he began hanging out with blood purists.
While at school, your father James was a bit of a bully his first few years. His favourite target was Snape for petty reasons. At first. Then as we got older and Snape showed how he was swayed by the idea of power, of being better than people born to families without magic… better then his abusive muggle father. I can’t fully blame him. But he still ended up where he did by his own choices.
He called me a Mudblood, and I’m sad to say that it was this that had me stop being his friend. That it took me being hurt by him to make me stop being his friend.
He began stalking me. Begging me to forgive him. James started stopping him from bugging me, and I fell in love with James. We got married right out of school, partly due to love and partly to protect me from harm since as the wife of a pureblood I was offered some protections.
It wasn’t enough for me to not be dosed with a love potion. It was enough James could track me, save me. I still ended up in bed before we knew.
Harry, James is your father. As far as he ever cared he is your true father. I don’t know if Snape ever knew. I don’t believe so, given his reaction when he found out. He refused, shouting it was lies. It’s possible someone else dosed me.
Harry, I love you. Your father loves you. Your uncles love you.
If you’re reading this unaware of your uncles, please reach out to them. Your uncle Remus is a werewolf, and if we aren’t there and Merlin forbid Sirius or Peter is dead, he wouldn’t be allowed to contact you until you reach out. He can explain more.
Love,
Mum
Harry didn’t know what to think. It felt so horrible seeing that letter. His hands shook as he put it down. He looked at the parchment again, his stomach dropping when he saw something else.
He was being dosed with love potions to. Multiple ones it seemed to a dozen girls.
He couldn’t stop the vomit. Steelclaw looked understanding at least.
-
A few days later, a shabbily dressed man came into the bank. He walked out with a child under one arm and a transfer to Beaubaxtons, a school in a country where love potions were persecuted to the highest degree, in his other hand.
The Daily Prophet found out about the transfer and it didn’t take to long for them to figure out why.
Severus Snape demanded his son. The French government refused as the British one tried to force the issue.
A black dog stole a rat and an innocent man left a French court house to hug his best friend and godson. He then sued Severus Snape along with Hogwarts for millions.
A family of red heads moved to France, and a bushy haired girl followed.
Others did to.
Harry was just sad, but pleased he went to Gringotts.

summary | Moony, Padfoot and Prongs find their best friend sneaking through the abandoned corridors of Hogwarts at night.
pairings | marauders x platonic!reader, slightly Sirius Black x fem!reader
warnings | it's actually total fluff, but mentions of wounds and bruises, domestic abuse and a little self destruction aaand English isn't my first language as you may have already noticed so I'm sorry for my lame ass writing and every mistake I did (maybe you'll find the name Alanis somewhere instead of y/n because I always write those fics with my name first, I'm sorry if so)

...
It was far after midnight as the not so tired Sirius Black gave up and opened his gloomy eyes in a deep sigh. He couldn't make it to sleep; nightmares keeping him up, that caused him to turn left and right, desperately trying to find a good sleeping position to make him feel comfy. But all of his attempts didn't work.
So the black haired boy looked around. The moon was gently shining onto his covers, while soft snores came from his three friends. The loudest noise was definitely caused by James, not that it surprised Sirius. Still, the young boy kept quiet, not wanting to wake up Remus, who just had had a rough night.
Sirius started to get bored and glanced at his bedside table. Only two things had managed it onto the table; his squiggly wand and the infamous Marauder's Map. Shortly after, Sirius mumbled a 'Lumos' and illuminated the dorm a little. The spell followed another one, including some of his favourite words: 'I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good' and the Map showed him whole Hogwarts.
With curious eyes the boy watched every step of every person awake, until he stopped at a very certain name. y/n y/l/n. His y/h/c haired best friend was wandering through the abandoned corridors, well aware of the consequences she had to face if she got caught. She moved towards the Tapestry Corridor, near the Dungeons, where the potion storeroom was located.
What the bloody hell was the infuriating girl up to again? And why would she need some potion ingredients? Sirius had no clue. He felt like he didn't have a choice other than waking up James, which is what he simply did.
"Prongs! Prongs!", he screamed in a whisper, making his good looking friend mumbling and turning to the other side of the bed.
"For fuck's sake, wake up, you lad!"
"What is it, Sirius?", James replied in a screaming whisper, too. He didn't sound amused or happy to be woken around 2AM.
"Looks like Mane is doing some mischief without us, can you imagine?", Sirius shortly explained, which caught James' attention.
"Ugh, not again...", the brunette sighed.
"Well, I think we should check on her, now!", Padfoot proposed, earning a brief nod from his best friend.
"'Right...", James said and got up. Both of the Marauder's quickly dressed and grabbed their wands. They were about to leave their dorm as a raspy voice stopped them.
"You're not going anywhere without me", Remus started, "especially not if you're that bad at whispering!", he exclaimed, voice held low to not wake up Peter, too.
Padfoot and Prongs turned around surprised, but remembered Remus' Werwolf senses and that it was impossible to whisper without him hearing every single word. The two boys sighed; Sirius a little mad at himself because he was eager to grant the young wolf some sleep.
The three boys sneaked almost soundless through the Gryffindor Common Room and used some of the secret passages to avoid the open corridors.
"So, what do you think y/n is doing again?", James asked curiously and a little tired. How many times had he and his friends protected the little girl from getting herself killed? He couldn't remember.
"What she's always doing", Moony answered, "hiding something from us or preparing some pranks on Snape."
It sounded simple, but it wasn't. y/n had, similar to Sirius, great problems with her family, who was trying to make a perfect pure blood wife out of her; beating her up badly when she wouldn't listen to what her father told her to do.
The y/e/c eyed girl hid her bruises from the Marauder's every time, not that it would stop them from finding out, though. But still, she was bloody stubborn and determined to keep her problems all to herself, causing the four boys to worry a lot.
She was a loyal part of the Marauder's, too, and never hesitated to sacrifice herself if James, Sirius, Remus or Peter were in any danger. She nursed all of Remus' wounds and scars and helped him to accept his flaws, while y/n practically was Sirius' therapist and James' advisor for everything that had to do with Lily Evans. Even for Wormtail she took her time and put effort in integrating him more into the group, although Peter secretly accepted that the girl with the mane resembled more of the Marauder's spirit than he did.
Knowing that y/n creeped through the black hallways again made not only Sirius uncomfortable. The three Marauder's quickened up their pace, following every of the girl's steps on the map. Some minutes passed, when they were close to the Tapestry Corridor. Three wooden wands were uplifted; enlightening the dimmed corridor and revealing a small back, covered by y/n's hair.
"Mane? Hey! What are you doing here?", Sirius addressed the girl and y/nstartled. Quickly she turned away from the door she was about to open with shaky hands.
"None of your business, Black! Could ask you the same question, couldn't I?", was y/n's rough answer.
"Well, we're not the ones sneaking through the hallways at night!"
"Well, James. In fact, you do. Right here, right now", the y/h/c haired countered.
"What Prongs was trying to say was that we're only here for you. You're the one doing stuff without informing us", Remus caught up, "and I'm sure you're hurt again by the way your hands are shaking."
y/n cursed the tall boy with the freckled face for his gift to read people like a book. He was attentive and good with human behaviour, exposing the unofficial fifth Marauder more often than she would like to.
"Ugh, I hate you. Y'all", y/n commented and catched Sirius' worried look upon her.
"No, you don't. You love us, all of us", James corrected the tiny girl and grinned.
"So, are you going to tell us what you're up to here?", Sirius demanded to know, again.
"Wanted to brew a potion, nothing more...", y/n admitted. But of course this wasn't enough of an answer for Sirius fucking Black.
"For what purpose?"
"As painkiller, certainly. Just look at how her body is all tense", Remus replied instead of y/n herself. The girl sighed resigned and leaned her aching body against the cold of the door behind her.
Almost simultaneously, Sirius tuck his wand into his waistband and stepped forward to lay a hand on y/n's waist and back. She hissed in pain, but relaxed when the warmth of Sirius' body reached her own shivering figure.
y/n leaned into his touch and was secretly more than grateful her friends discovered her; not sure if she would've made it without them. The last encounter with her father wasn't a nice one.
"What about I and James get the ingredients for your potion and brew it, while Sirius puts you to bed, huh?", Moony made a proposal and got a weak nod from the typical strong girl. Her legs started to feel like jelly, as all of the pressure left y/n at the presence of her friends.
Without hesitation, Sirius lifted his best friend into his muscular arms. Immediately y/n curled up and placed her vibrant head against his shoulder; absorbing all of his warmth and smell.
"Hold on a minute...", James suddenly interrupted, "is that Padfoot's joggers with Moony's flannel?"
This thought came into Prong's mind as his wand gleamed onto y/n's body, searching for any outer wounds or bruises. Just the moment he said it, Remus and Sirius laid eyes on the almost sleeping beauty.
"Yeah, that's definitely my joggers! Been searching them for a couple of weeks now!"
"I guess our Mane here felt free to use our closet...but we can't be mad, Padfoot. Just see how good it looks on her", Remus noticed and giggled after.
"You're probably right...", Sirius said before heading towards the boy's dorm again.
Unsure James and Remus were left alone, watching the storeroom door as if it would open just by their gaze. Which it didn't.
"Any idea what we need for the potion?", Prongs questioned and observed Remus and the door.
"Kinda...", Moony whispered, drawing attention to the correct opening spell for the door.
"I mean, we should take her to Madame Pomfrey. Her pain seems bad, so..."
"You know we can't do that", the young werwolf stated, "her parents will know and it'll get worse. I dislike this as much as you do, but look at me. I'm the perfect example that our potions do their work, otherwise I wouldn't be standing here.
Remus' calm voice convinced James and he nodded in agreement. "Fine, then let's open this bloody door."
...
Meanwhile Sirius was carrying a half asleep y/n to his bed. She didn't move on the way back, nor did she talk to him. But his eyes already found some deep blue and purple spots on the skin of her wrists, giving him an answer. He'd absolutely kill her father if it'd stop him from hurting the precious girl in his arms. Just as all of the boys would defend y/n.
James had already thought of asking Mane to move in. With Sirius and so on, so she was safe. But it was something he knew y/n would be too modest to accept; she'd feel bad after, which is why Prongs kept quiet.
"Here you go, little one", Sirius whispered as he tucked y/n into his bed. She let out a content groan because of his smell surrounding her. She snuggled into the soft pillow, looking as cute as hell.
"Hey, y/n, you need something else?", Padfoot asked softly while caressing her cheek.
"Just you", she aspirated tired. Sirius' heart grew warm at the words of her. It meant the world to him that an angel like y/n, put on the hell of earth, still managed to melt his heart and giving him so much love, even though he wasn't sure if he deserved it.
Fulfilling her wish, the boy with the long dark hair laid next to y/n and pulled her into his arms again. She let out a relieved breath and buried her head into Sirius' chest.
He was almost asleep too, when James and Remus returned from getting the ingredients they needed for the healing potion. They eyeballed Sirius and y/n position knowingly, giving Padfoot a certain look, that he decided to ignore.
Moony and Prongs made quick work of the potion, not even waking up Peter, who was sleeping as deep as a stone, while Sirius watched the sleeping girl on top of him.
"Portion's ready. You should wake her up so she can sleep through and feel better tomorrow", Remus mumbled eventually. Sirius did as he was told and started to stroke y/n's hair, in order to carefully wake her up.
"Mane? y/n? C'mon, love. Wake up and take your medicine."
"Huh?", y/n murmured sleepily, not understanding what was happening around her. Remus sat down next to her and Padfoot, holding a small bottle of glass in front of her face.
The y/h/c haired girl thanked the boy with a grateful look and took a sip without squinching up her face at the bitter taste of the liquid.
"Thank you all, boys. For wasting your time to sleep and caring for me...", y/n said with a small grin.
"Always", they responded and smiled before going to bed, this time all of the five Marauders.

despise (f.w. x reader)
this is my first fic! yayy! i hope all you angels enjoy. have a wonderful day or night and take care of your beautiful selves! :)
word count: 4.5k
I despised Fred Weasley. Upon this discovery, I always questioned the veracity of my feelings towards him. It was never in my nature to be hateful, if anything I was known for being kind, caring, and helpful. Perhaps at times, I could be a little aloof, but that was simply due to the fact that my mind was always elsewhere. Never in my life had I felt so strongly about someone, better yet hate someone so fervently. Oftentimes I would feel guilty for scoffing at every remark he made, or rolling my eyes when he would flash his infamous coquettish smile. I abhorred him, it’s not like I made the decision to by my own volition, I couldn’t help it. I’m aware of how this sounds, a typical loathsome teenager who hated the boy who has attention, the boy who has people falling at his feet, the boy with a lot of friends and a close family. It wasn’t that, no not at all. I had my reasons.
--------
I had never been more excited. I could barely keep the grin off my face as my legs swung back and forth, my heels hitting the seat. It was my first time being away from home, my desire to practice my independence as an 11-year-old was being fulfilled by the second. Looking out the window as the trees grew thicker and predictions of what the year could hold running through my mind a repulsive scent filled my cabin, thick smoke cloaked my vision and settled on my skin and robes. My violent coughs and labored breathing created a cacophony as the sound of hushed giggling and footsteps sounded from outside the door. My shaking hands made haste to dust off the soot, horrified of what others would think of me when I arrived at Hogwarts. A dirty and poor mudblood. I had expected the worst after hearing the stories my mother told me from working at the ministry, how could anyone disrespect someone I loved so dearly? The fear of being called out in such a hostile way and being looked down upon by potential friends caused my chest to tighten and sobs to violently rack my body. Not to mention the guilt I felt for getting my brand new robes dirty, especially knowing my mother worked extra shifts to get them.
Stepping out of the Hogwarts express I was met with a tall man, guiding me along with other students to the boats. The soot hadn’t disappeared completely but I had gotten as much as I could off. The boat ride was pleasant. I had acquainted with a girl named Luna along the way, she was an idiosyncratic girl but I appreciated her kindness and her curious comments about sea creatures. I felt relieved that someone was talking to me without judging me based on my appearance, but the sadness I felt about my dirty robes still lingered over me.
Looking up at the enchanted sky of the great hall I’ve never felt so enthralled by something. It was just as wonderful as my mom had described, I couldn’t wait to write to her all about it. But as I approached the front of the hall I felt dread put a weight around my ankles, I would have to stand up in front of everyone with my soiled robes. My uneasiness produced a scowl on my face and I could have sworn the familiar giggling was right behind me, but as I whipped my head around there was no one that seemed to be responsible for it.
“Now, when I call your names I will ask you to come forward, be seated on the stool, be sorted by the sorting hat, and after you will continue to your house table.”
I felt guilty that I wasn’t paying attention to my peers being sorted but my unease wracked at me, the ends of my sweater tangling between my fingers and the heel of my shoe being ground against the tiled floor.
“Y/N L/N”
Sighing I stepped forward, the giggles resonating once again making me stumble slightly. The lady at the front, whose name I had failed to remember, gave me a tight smile and waited for me to be seated. As the weight of the sorting hat pressed against my head I saw it. A trio of boys, 2 identical and one with dreads giggling, their soot covered hands coming up to their faces as they analyzed my robes. They must’ve felt my gaze because one of the twins and the boy with dreads stopped, but one continued, only laughing harder and looking right back at me. There, that was the moment I knew I would end up hating this ginger boy.
I had been so preoccupied with burning holes into his eyes that I had failed to recognize the incessant tapping on my shoulder and the dying cheers of the students sitting on a table at the far right of the room. Snapping my head towards the stern lady behind me. I hopped off the seat and rushed to the table that I assumed belonged to my house, which I didn’t know since I wasn’t listening. My face grew warm and my hands became sweaty with how tight my fists were clenched. I sat down quietly, never taking my eyes off that git.
That’s how he ruined my first highlight at Hogwarts.
--------
My second year was going just as I had planned. I had been practicing for Quidditch during the summer with my best mates Cho, Graham, and Julian (as Luna tried to befriend the gnomes, which didn’t end so pleasantly). I was convinced that I had improved greatly since my first chaotic flying lesson at Hogwarts. I was so sure of my skills, that I was unperturbed about trying out for my house team. That was a big mistake.
Going into compromising situations with nonchalance, knowing that the Weasley twins are in the same vicinity as you is a foolish, doltish mistake that anyone can be a victim to. I had been a victim to many of the playful endeavours during my first year and I thought that it was all over. Maybe they were mature now and knew when to stop. Thinking about it now makes me laugh, what a pretty lie I told myself.
It was the final cut for the team and I smiled as I gripped my broom, ignoring the splinter that found a place to reside in my thumb. The captain walked around smiling softly at all of us as she explained what the final tryout would entail. I clung to every word and as soon as she asked for a volunteer, my hand soared.
Tendrils of hair whipped around my face as I bolted to get the quaffle and shoot it into a hoop. I could hear words of praise from my friends on the ground and it only made me go a little faster, smiling as the quaffle passed by me. In an instant I spun my broom around, sending the ball flying to a hoop as the end struck it. I continued playing, doing tricks to show the captain I belonged on the team, I was so captured and focused that I didn’t notice the ball of fire that was in front of me, I also didn’t notice the screaming and shouts of warning from the ground but even when I did it was too late. Being faced with the fire ball it took me by surprise causing me to slip off my broom and fall a rough 20 feet from the sky.
The sound of a crack should have been the main sound that plagued my ears but it wasn’t, the pain radiating in my arm should have been enough for me to realize my arm could have been broken but it also wasn’t. At that moment I was verklempt because all I could hear was that notorious giggle and all I felt was a ferocious vindictive ball of anger swelling inside of me. In that moment I was certain that I deplored that Weasley boy.
“L/N are you okay??”
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine let me just get back on my broom and finish my try out. Please, I really wanna make the team.”
“No! Are you mental? You can't! You have to go to Madam Pomfrey now.”
“No please let me finish, I have to make the team.”
“You’re on the team kid, you’re talented but for the love of Merlin please go your arm looks horrible.”
--------
The stems of the flowers felt smooth in my hand and the soft petals grazed my nose as I inhaled its scent. I had never been given this much attention by someone and I had to admit it felt good. Getting mysterious notes everyday, serendipitous boxes of sweets on my bed and something to giggle about with my friends. The only thing that was covert was who it was coming from. I knew how they felt about me, I knew they were in all my classes and I knew that he was a Hufflepuff. I felt excited coming to my dorm, anticipating a note on my bedside table or a flower on my pillow. It all seemed a little too good to be true, and a part of me nagged, telling me it was just another Weasley prank.
After reading copious articles about wolfsbane, due to Snape’s unreasonable wrath, my head felt numb. I dragged my feet to reach my common room and after answering the riddle I stepped through the entrance ready to fling myself onto the couch.
“Hey.” It was James Abernathy, my seat partner in potions and herbology, and he was in all my other classes. His presence confused me, he wasn’t permitted into this common room, he was a Hufflepuff. Upon this realization, a ball of excitement spun in my body. Could it possibly be him? He was the epitome of my dream guy, but with my history in Hogwarts my gut told me that this was too good to be true.
“...hi? What would you need?”
“Actually can I speak to you outside?”
“Uh..yeah? Sure I guess.” He nodded curtly and walked towards to exit, letting me trail behind him. Thoughts flooded quickly, leaving me in anticipation for what he would possibly have to say to me. The idea of it being him excited me, but he had a bit of a reputation. Not that I thought he was incapable of holding interest in someone for longer than a week, it just seemed unlikely that it would be me of all people.
“It’s me.”He chuckled softly and ran a hand through his hair, the veins being accentuated as he tugged at the ends lightly.
I remained silent, awfully confused and in disbelief.
“You?” He nods quickly. My head was spinning and I couldn’t pinpoint how I felt or how to react. How could it be collected, witty, dallying and charming James Abertnathy, has taken an interest in me? It was hard to believe, it was so unlikely that I just knew it was too good to be true. Someone like me never goes with someone like James, that’s just how it is. Despite that my judgement was clouded by excitement, never had anything so romantic occurred in my life, the thought of having someone like James as a partner was a dream I thought I deserved to live out.
“Wow, that’s lovely um..”
“So what do you say to a day at Hogsmeade?” The echo of his footsteps sounded as he drew nearer to hold my limp hands in his, running his thumb over my knuckles.
“She says no, more into redheads you see.” My neck could have snapped with the velocity at which my head turned. Of course, of course he had to be just around the corner. Of course he had to be hiding behind a pillar, probably running away from Filch after terrorizing an innocent student or professor. How could I be so blind, so naive? I couldn’t have anything good, because he existed. Looking up I was met with the smile that seemed to frequent his face, he waved comically as James huffed and walked away. I couldn’t help the quiver of my lip as I watched him revel in the joy he got from terrorizing me.
“W-why would you do that?” I couldn’t meet his eyes, but I could feel them on me. I couldn’t stand to look at him because I knew if I did I'd slap him so hard that even the lines on my hands would be imprinted on his face for weeks.
“Because he wanted 15 galleons and you wanted him, it would have never worked darling.” Fred was lying, I knew it. James was popular but not an absolute prick. He lost interest in people, he didn’t place bets on them.
“What are you on about? He..he wouldn’t.”
“Oh but he would, 15 galleons is one hell of a price.” He chortled, patting my head. I had gotten used to his belittling comments and I usually remained stoic, but it hurt hearing I was worth nothing more than 15 galleons, and hearing him confirm that just hurt even more.
“What did I ever do to you? Why do you hate me so much? Ever since I got here you’ve been nothing but hellish to me. I’ve done nothing to you, I’ve never even had a full conversation with you! Merlin, this is the most we’ve ever spoken so please, Fred, just tell me what it is I’ve done so I can apologize and you can bloody stay away from me.” My breath hitched, my hands shook and I felt disappointed in myself for losing my composure.
“Nothing! You’ve done nothing at all it’s just-” His continuous patting on my head had stopped and his hand rested on my shoulder, which I shrugged off immediately upon realizing its presence.
“What? Just what, what could I have possibly done for me to deserve this. Do you know that I have never written to my mother about a single good thing that has happened to me here, and you know why? It’s because of you! You selfish git!”
“Listen the only reason I did those things was because I wanted your attention.”
“And why on earth would you want that?”
“Isn’t it obvious I fancy you, like a lot?” He threw his head back lightly as he crossed his arms. His nonchalance was palpable, and I just knew that he thought he had won, he thought that I would suddenly change my demeanor and drop to my knees thanking Merlin he liked me. Unfortunately for him, he was dead wrong, sure he was attractive, very in fact but his personality made him the most repulsive and hideous human I could ever be faced with.
“Oh? Really? You’re going to pull that card? So you’re telling me the reason you were an insufferable twat for 3 years, was because you were too much of a coward to divulge your feelings? I find that very hard to believe, you’re practically known to be brazen without fail so why?”
“Because you’re you! You’re known to be indifferent, how would I ever get you to feel strongly about me in any way when you disregard everyone who tries to get close to you?”
“Well uh I don't know?! Maybe have a conversation with me? Ask me about my day? You could have done literally anything other than cause affliction on me for years. You ruined some of the best possible moments of my life, and I’m not going to let some sodding excuse of you liking me disregard that!”
“Love, please just lis-”
“I am not your love and I will not listen! What on earth did I expect from you? How could I be so stupid?! You’re right, you’re you and I’m me. And I know that I would never do anything to merit the havoc I’ve had to endure and I know that you’re only treating me like rubbish because you’re a bored little boy, who doesn’t ever get enough attention so you have to terrorize innocent people to fulfill some fantasy of achievement and success. A fantasy I know you will never achieve because you care about nothing but ruining the lives of others.”
He looked back at me vacantly, and for the first time, I knew that I had gotten the upper hand. In a way it felt good, it was like the revenge I’d been craving for years. Yet the other half of me knew it was wrong, to berate someone so zealously without listening to their side. I knew I had gone overboard and I knew the guilt would consume me later, but the memories of reading the first letter my mom had owled me fled in. The overwhelming guilt I had felt for asking her for new robes after the soot wouldn’t get out, the embarrassment of nearly missing the team from falling off my broom due to a fireball, and the insecurity I currently felt, after hearing that I’m worth only 15 galleons prevented me from holding back. I felt too much and had too little time to process it.
“Please just-”
“Fred, do you not understand what I’m saying? You’ve never failed to humiliate me and you’ve regarded me with nothing but disdain and contempt, I never said anything because I wanted to be polite but you know what? You don't deserve my patience or manners. You’ve never listened to anyone but your thick obdurate skull, but you know what you’re going to listen to me and you’re going to listen well. I HATE YOU! Now leave me alone.” I stormed off muttering the answer to the riddle once more and rushed to my dorm shutting the door and curling under my blanket. I could hear the footsteps of my roommate apprehensively approaching me. Her hand resting on my arm.
“Fred?”
“Fred.”
“Git.”
I felt nothing but guilt as I fell asleep that night. Fred was still human and though he was horrible to me, I could understand why he did those things, though they weren’t justified and I would personally never do it. Ron had told me before about how his brother was, how he really was a good person. Someone driven, thoughtful, kind, and creative. How he was a great older brother, especially to Ginny. I realized how hurtful my words were, and I regretted them immensely.
--------
Hermione and Ron never failed to put on a spectacle for everyone around them. Whether it be arguing about the definition of a word or how barbaric wizards chess is, they always disagreed. So it wasn’t a real surprise when I walked in the great hall for breakfast when I heard their strident bickering from halfway across the room. Walking closer to them, the words they threw at each other became distinguishable.
“‘Mione- no! Listen, you’re not listening I’m telling you he does he really does!!”
“You never fail to prove your fatuous way of thinking Ronald. I mean I would understand literally anyone else, I mean she’s all angel but not him. He’s absolutely horrible to her. Why would you think such a thing?” Deciding to be nosy and sit here instead of my house table I sat next to Harry, nudging his shoulder as he snickered.
“Fancy seeing you here.” He nodded, handed me a roll and pushed his cup of pumpkin juice towards me.
“Any idea what they’re on about?”
“An inkling.” He smirked.
“Not talking huh?”
“Mhmm. Just listen I’m sure you’ll find out.”
“He’s my brother, I know how he is around people he likes- loves. He’s an arse to us, yeah, it’s in his nature, but behind our backs he would do anything for us. He just doesn’t want us knowing.”
“Oh wow Ronald, you’re gonna compare his love for you to his ‘love’ for her? How ridiculous.”
“No-bloody hell no! Don’t twist my words, what I’m saying is I know what he’s trying to do. The amount of times he’s stood up for her behind her back, you’d think he’s her puppy. Do you know how many people he’s hexed and pranked for her. Remember he gave Flint boils for a month after he called her a mudblood after a match? Or when he beat up Mullard...and Nilesmith and- Merlin I could go on and on. C’mon, he’d never do that for someone he hated.”
“Okay fine maybe...since when did you care so much about the relationships of others?”
“She’s our best friend! And he’s a git that needs to be calmed down, but you know he never does so if we end this now it’ll be better for all of us.”
“Wow Ron, you’ve unlocked the capacity to sympathize with other humans.”
I knew it was about Fred, and I knew it was about me.
Swallowing the unchewed bite of bread in my mouth and gulping down the rest of Harry’s juice I rushed out of the great hall, not in the mood to be reminded of Fred. Not in the mood to process what I had just heard.
--------
The Triwizard Tournament. A time for friendship, unity and excitement. Ever since the Beauxbaton girls and Durmstrang boys came to Hogwarts the energy had been different. Something promising lingered in the air. Things truly felt different this year, and I’m sure they would be. There was so much to look forward to. New friends, the tournament itself and the Yule Ball. My excitement and joy for the new school year couldn’t be smothered, even by the fact that I had detention every evening for 2 weeks. I suppose reading in the restricted section after hours wasn’t the wisest thing, especially considering it wasn’t my first time getting caught. So here I was, using a brush no bigger than my pinky to polish cauldrons, the bristles getting thick and grimy from the remaining ingredients left in the dents of the cast iron. Humming to myself I let my thoughts wander to how exhilarating the ball will be, how fun it will be to dance with all of my friends, how pleasant it will be dressed up. Nothing could possibly spoil that not even Fred Weasley, I wouldn’t allow it.
It had been at least an hour, my hands were cramped and I was anticipating the completion of my 30 minutes left until I could rush to my dorm. I had finished cleaning and now I was left sitting here, vacantly twirling the brush with my fingers. The minutes couldn’t possibly go slower but as I heard the offbeat footsteps that I had grown accustomed to looking out for I knew that my night was going to be much longer than anticipated. Once I heard them I knew to evacuate, but being stuck in the trophy room I had no choice but to stay, Snape’s unreasonable derision wasn’t worth the fuss. The tiny brush I was forced to clean threatened to snap as my grip tightened. When the footsteps came to a halt, the unease in the room multiplied by 5. Without a word, there was the sound of shuffling, a drawer being opened and a brush being grabbed. It took 10 dreadful minutes for him to finally speak. As soon as the first syllable dripped from his mouth I couldn’t hold back a sigh, of relief or apprehension, I’m not sure.
“So what color are you wearing to the ball?”
“Sod off Weasley.” I grumbled, straightening my back. Another 10 minutes of silence followed.
“I’m sorry...I know I’ve been a foul, detestable and painfully foolish ass. I know that whatever I do it will never be enough to prove that I never had any bad intent behind my actions. I know you think I’m a no-good inconsiderate twat who doesn’t care about anyone, that I’m bound to fail and I deserve that. The things I’ve done to you are absolutely horrible. But Y/N please, please believe me, I never did any of that to harm you. Just please give me one chance, just one and I swear if I mess it up I will leave you alone forever.” I barely understood a word he said, it was so rapid but I clung onto everyone as best as I could.
“Why should I?”
“It’s selfish, to ask for so much after all I’ve done but I know that you’re the most intelligent, kind, resilient and beautiful person I’ve ever encountered. And my feelings towards you aren’t enough to ever justify what I’ve done. I know that I have ruined every year of your time here, but please please please give me one chance to make the rest of your years remarkable. To let you live out the highlights you deserve, so you can write to your mother about how much fun you had going to hogsmeade, or how amazing the Yule Ball was, or-”
“You’re asking me to the ball?”
“If you’ll have me.” My breath hitched and I let my brush drop, and for the first time since that night I had divulged my hatred for him, I looked him in the eye as I stepped closer. I remained silent and did nothing but look at him, every twitch of his eye, every rise and fall of his chest, I had to see it, I had to make sure this wasn’t some elaborate game that he wanted me to lose at. It must’ve been at least 5 minutes because his face dropped and his chest deflated, he turned to leave but before he could I ran in front of him. Nodding my head yes, I held his face, running my thumb over his freckled cheek.
“This is for Flint.” I whispered as I slowly neared his face, pressing a kiss to his forehead after brushing his hair to the side. His arm wrapped around my waist.
“Mullard.” Another to each of his temples.
“Nilesmith.” The tip of his nose.
“And every other person you stood up against for me, even after everything I said to you and even though I never knew about any of it.” The corner of his mouth. His eyelashes flutter against my cheek.
“And this is for taking me to the ball.” I looked into his eyes, searching for confirmation that it was alright to continue, he squeezed my wrist in confirmation. It was warm and sweet, safe and pure. It was filled with passion, all the things we have yet to admit to the other was translated into this moment. I wanted him to feel the admiration I had for his confidence to stand up for the ones he loved to whoever defied them, every freckle on his face, every laugh that would emerge from the back of his throat, the calluses on his hands, the determination in his heart, the respect and love he had for everyone, hidden behind all of his playful antics. We pulled apart, laughing softly and refusing to let go of each other. Our foreheads pressed together and we hugged tightly, our arms refusing to release the other. I had never felt so warm, so elated, so appreciated. It was odd, especially coming from him, but I accepted it. I had never accepted any feelings towards Fred that were positive, but now I let them in freely without shame or denial.
“I can’t believe I used to despise you.”

James is dating
thank you very much to @matrixaffiliate and @deadwoodpecker who helped me finish this one shot
ao3
--------------
''James is dating.'' Harry said, no longer holding on to the secret, remembering non-stop the scene of his son kissing the blonde warmly, in the back of the house.
Harry knew that his children were growing up, apparently it was inevitable that this would not happen, there was no potion or spell that would slow that moment. But he hoped he was free a few more years from having to deal with teenage romance.
''What?'' Ginny said, stopping the cream on her face and turning to him with eagle eyes. ''How do you know?''
''I saw it.'' Harry sighed, resting his elbows on his knees and hiding his face with his hands. When did your son stop saying 'ew' for any interaction between man and woman and started practicing them? Nobody talked about it when you said you were going to be a father.
''Saw? What the fuck?'' Ginny was still half-white and the other half intact, looking at him like an owl mother, looking like she was about to leave the room and go down to the second floor in order to find her newest perverted son.
''I went to see if he needed anything, he was so quiet and... Ah Gin, he was kissing that friend of his'' The man groaned in disapproval, wanting himself to throw himself out of the window or oblivion himself. It was horrible to be sure that your children were growing up.
''Mira?! Oh, Merlin..'' Ginny sat next to her husband, still with rosy cheeks and steady eyes. ''But..'' She started. ''It's better here, than in a dark alley, who knows where... You and I know what we did to escape my parents.''
''Please speak quietly, the Gods can remember that and punish us even more.'' The man fell on the bed, watching the plaster ceiling they had chosen years ago .. 16 years ago.
So many, many nights that he interrupted his parents just because he wanted to sleep among them, or that he liked to sit on Harry's legs because he was his dad, and the times when he asked to hear stories from school... It looked like it had been a century ago.
They had lived there for 16 years, didn't seem to be so long ago that James had been born and Harry held him for the first time.
James was still talking to him, obviously, earlier the boy made a joke about Albus and some other Slytherin.. Robert? Stephan?Harry didn't remember, but it was one of those moments when James gossiped about his brothers, without actually gossiping. As if he just wanted to keep his parents aware of what was going on.
‘‘Should we go talk to him?’’ Harry asked, but not quite sure what he was going to say. Teddy had first told Ginny when he started dating Vic, so the whole situation was easier when he arrived. Did James expect him to help him? That he knew?
‘’We’re going to wait for him to come to us.’’ Ginny said firmly, still looking a little jealous ‘’And he will come eventually.’’
But James took a while.
The next day, he was talking normally at the table, and when the subject became Mira (something recurring, because apparently, Lily loved the girl), James acted naturally and told something they had done or something muggle that she introduced him to.. And then he changed the topic, without even looking ashamed or afraid.
In the days that have passed, every time Harry touched - unpretentiously - on the subject of dating, and how they would cope when Lily started dating, James shrugged and said that Lily would be lucky if someone was able to be with her for more than five minutes, and then, he would do whatever he was doing again.
Even when George asked him about girls on Sunday, James didn't blink. He laughed at the joke, rolled his eyes, continuing the matter normally.
Harry was going crazy.
But finally, a week and a half later, after another day where he went out with Michael and Piper (which Harry doubted), he finally said:
''I'm dating.''
Both were lying in a hammock, it had been a fun day. Harry, James and Albus had modified Lily's treehouse and made it more spacious and comfortable. Then they fixed the owlery, and also built a new home for Sir, their dog.
Albus had gone out with Ginny, they were both going to the market to buy something that Harry didn't understand, and Lily had gone out with Arthur and Molly for a walk.
Harry and James were left. They flew for a while and then settled in the hammocks he had won from Bill a few Christmases ago. The sun was almost setting behind the trees at the back of the house, and they were starting to hear some crickets, birds and even owls, with the silence they were making.
‘’Since when?’’ It was the first thing that came out, his curiosity and fatherly concern dueling in the chest.
But then James had said that, and Harry thought he was unable to hide his expression.
‘’Really dating? I think... Since after Easter.’’ Harry's eyes widened.
‘’Since April?!’’ They were almost in August!
‘’I didn’t want to tell you via Floo or Letter... Won't you ask who it is?’’ He finally sat on the hammock, looking at his son, who - just now - had pink cheeks. James still looked like the same boy that Harry saw growing up, but now he looked much older than he remembered. However, it was still the little boy who cared too much about his dad's opinion of him.
‘’Mira?’’
‘’How do you know?’’ James laughed nasally, sitting up too. ‘’Albus told you? He's a gossip.’’ Oh dear…
‘’Er… Yeah, yeah.’’ He wouldn’t tell the truth, besides, even James knew that Albus wouldn’t tell his parents anything, not if he asked for secrecy. ‘’But then… Do you like her?’’
‘’I wouldn’t be dating if I didn’t like her.’’ James gave him that cheeky smile, loaded with a confidence that neither Ginny nor Harry knew where it came from. Harry raised an eyebrow in response. ‘’It’s a joke, of course I like her.’’ He lay back in the hammock, legs out touching the grass, swinging it from side to side. ‘’I wanted to tell you before, but I thought I was being hasty.’’
‘‘No, it was really Michael and Piper.’’ James shrugged. ‘’I wasn’t going to lie about it, besides, Mira is out of town.’’ Harry smiled at his sincerity.
‘’So those outings with the boys, were you with her?’’
It was quite different to see James talking quite naturally about Mira, and to think about how he had dealt with Ginny in the beginning, so afraid to even hold her hand in front of Molly or Arthur.
The boy started telling about how it had all happened and how he had been an idiot before, and all Harry could do was laugh and listen, marveling at the ease of the facts and how much more comfortable James seemed to be telling the truth.
He thought vaguely of Sirius, of Snape's memory, confident and a smartass, even more so than his dad (as much as James seemed to want to appear extremely confident).
His son had that sparkle in his eyes that Harry had never experienced, telling him about how he felt when he realized he liked her, and how Mira said no when he asked her out (''Can you believe it? But in the end she went out with me and we kissed, so ... who cares?'')
Harry laughed and listened to everything, happy to be able to provide it to James (only Merlin and he knew how much he missed having someone who could hear him talking about Ginny), making some comments and reminding him of the traumatic sex conversation - which seemed much more important now.
He was happy to have listened to Ginny and let James come over when he felt comfortable, even though it was still awkward to think about his little boy, dating.

Lost Part 2
Harry Potter Marauders Era
Link to Part 1
Pairings: Regulus x Reader
Rating: M- Regulus is still being an angsty emo kid and isn’t playing nice. Light mentions of smut
Song in the beginning/end: Circles by Post Malone
____
Let go I got a feeling that it's time to let go I say so I knew that this was doomed from the get-go
You thought that it was special, special But it was just the sex though, the sex though And I still hear the echoes (The echoes) I got a feeling that it's time to let it go, let it go
Seasons change and our love went cold Feed the flame 'cause we can't let it go Run away, but we're running in circles Run away, run away
I dare you to do something I'm waiting on you again So I don't take the blame Run away, but we're running in circles Run away, run away, run away
You stormed out of the dungeons and up the stairs. At the moment, you wanted to storm back down the potions classroom and slap Regulus. This desire was totally out of character for you. Sure, you wanted to smack James and Sirius sometimes for their antics but usually, it was all in good fun. Regulus, however, was bringing out a side of you that you didn’t even know.
This is why you don’t need to be in love with him. It would just be toxic and you won’t be yourself.
You thought as you shoved your red hair out of your face. Remus’ words of “you’re not a doormat” returned to your mind. Remus was the only one that was aware of your affair with Regulus and didn’t hesitate to express his concern. That was his job as your best friend. He looked out for you since Regulus clearly didn’t want the job anymore.
“I’m not a doormat. I’m not a doormat. I’m not a doormat.”
You chanted before running headfirst into a hard body. Looking up you immediately blushed to see Gavin McDonald in front of you. He was the one Ravenclaw boy that you would consider throwing out your morals as you did for Regulus.
“Y/n, hey.”
He said, cheerfully before reaching down to pick up the romance novel that you dropped. You blushed as he read the title.
“Good book by the way.”
He said as he put it back in your waiting hands. You blinked a few times.
“You’ve read it?”
Gavin nodded.
“Nothing wrong with a good romance novel. I thought that you had potions this period.”
You huffed. The last thing that you wanted to do was explain to Gavin why you were so frazzled. It would be embarrassing to say “oh, Regulus Black called me a clueless tart but I still adore him.” That would probably destroy any chance that you had as far as a date would go.
“I got finished early.”
You replied with a bright smile. Gavin ran a hand through his black hair.
“Slughorn has nothing but amazing things to say about you.”
You blushed again.
“I think he is a bit biased. So, Gavin, Hogsmeade is this weekend...would you like to go with me?”
Gavin’s smile fell as he looked around the hallway for any sign of Regulus Black. The last thing that the Ravenclaw wanted was to face off with the Slytherin boy with a bad attitude.
“I can’t. It's not that I don’t want to. You are a really lovely girl, Y/n...I’m just scared of Regulus Black.”
You felt your mouth drop. What in the fresh hell was going on? Just what had Gavin been told?
“What does he have to do with anything? He isn’t my boyfriend or anything. We aren’t even friends.”
Gavin shrugged.
“But you were.”
“Yeah, the keyword is “were.” He and I haven’t properly talked in over a year.”
Gavin sighed again. This was going to be a harder conversation than he expected. He hated the thought of breaking your heart. You were a sweet and kind girl that deserved the best in the world but the Slytherin boy lurking around the corner at the moment watching Gavin’s every move was enough to scare him off. Gavin winced when he saw Regulus’ gaze narrow on him.
“You don’t seem to understand. When a Slytherin claims a Hufflepuff it’s for good. You were his companion for a long time. The last thing I want is to have my face bashed in.”
You blinked a few times. Claimed? What? Where in the hell were you when this happened and why weren’t you clued in on this little fact?
“Gavin, I do not have any ties with Regulus Black and he doesn’t like me. Yeah, Slytherins and Hufflepuffs are extremely compatible but Regulus and I...well...we would kill each other.”
“Regulus is a scary dude.”
Gavin confessed before looking at Regulus again. The other boy had been joined by Barty Crouch Jr and Severus Snape. All three were watching with matching scowls.
You, meanwhile, not realizing that you were being watched like a hawk, sighed.
“Fine. I understand but I assure you I am nothing to him.”
As soon as the words left your mouth, Regulus and his friends walked by. You noticed the colder than normal expression on Regulus’ face as he pushed Gavin out of his way.
“Move, McDonald.”
He snapped, ignoring your presence completely. It wasn’t until he was about six feet away did he turn and meet your frowning face. Smirking, he turned back to his friends laughing about the stupid expression on Gavin’s face.
“Excuse me.”
You muttered to Gavin before going after Regulus. He had no idea that you were behind him when you shoved him out of your way.
“Watched what the fuck you are doing…”
Regulus started to say but stopped when you pushed past him. What possessed you to something so bold was still beyond you.
“Evans, you idiot!”
He yelled. You turned as Snape reached out to tug Regulus back.
“Freaking leave me alone and stay out of my business.”
You said, keeping your voice calm. Barty started laughing.
“Fiesty little mudblood.”
Your wand was out and pointed right at Crouch. Again, you had no idea what you were doing but your temper was starting to get you places. You knew that Crouch was a blithering idiot and depended on his friends to make sure that he passed school. If push came to shove, you could defend yourself.
“Oh, shit.”
Snape muttered meeting Regulus’ own surprised expression. None of the boys had seen you ready to take someone out before. Whatever set you off must have been bad!
Moments later, Remus and Sirius stepped out of an empty classroom and froze at the sight in front of them. Had they not see it with their own eyes, they would have never believed that you were about to hex someone. The sweet shy little girl that gave the best hugs and “sad time” presents was starting to act like them.
“Y/n?”
Remus questioned. You turned to face your best friend as Sirius’ eyes flickered to his brother. He had a feeling that this was caused by Regulus somehow even though Crouch was the one about to get hexed.
“It's okay, Remus.”
You said, softly. Sirius reached out and carefully pulled you back.
“Whose ass am I kicking?”
You were tempted to say “your brother” but decided against it.
“No one. They aren’t worth it.”
You replied before putting your wand away. Remus held out his arm in hopes that whatever had your knickers in such a twist would stop. You wrapped your arm through his before letting them lead you off. Sirius smirked back at his brother. Regulus gave him a dirty look that made Sirius chuckle.
“Boy, you sure showed them.”
You took deep even breaths as Sirius and Remus led you into the castle to where Lily and James sat. Both looked up and immediately knew something was wrong by the expression on your face. Remus looked as grim as you did while Sirius was grinning like a proud parent.
“What’s wrong?”
Lily asked immediately. The last thing that she wanted was for something to be happening to her favorite sister. James put his water down.
“Whose ass am I kicking?”
Sirius shook his head.
“I just had ringside seats for the event of the century. Our little mini-red was about to hex Crouch. My stupid brother and Snivelly looked like they were ready to shit their pants. It was epic! I’ve never seen our little nerd flip like that before.”
Lily was genuinely startled by the words that left Sirius’ mouth as she turned to you.
“Y/n, is this true?”
You sat down beside your sister in a huff before nodding.
“Yes, Crouch made me mad. Well, it started with Regulus...the butthead.”
Lily raised an eyebrow. She always had a suspicion that your friendship with Regulus was a little more than friendly but was never able to confirm it. As much as she hated your friendship with Regulus, she tried to look the other way. She, after all, was friends with Snape so who was she to tell you not to take up with Slytherin boy?
The protective sister in her, however, wanted nothing more than to go find Regulus and ask what happened. Lily knew that your friendship with Regulus had fallen apart after he started making some not so savory friends. As much as she wanted to be thrilled that it was over she couldn’t help but feel sorry for you at the same time. You missed Regulus and she knew it.
Lily didn’t realize just how much that you missed Regulus. You were fuming as you thought about him again. He didn’t deserve your love nor did you deserve the heartache that you were being put through.
“Why do I miss him?”
You thought sadly as you looked down at your lap. Hell, you missed everything about him! You missed the way he frowned when reading something, his protective nature, and as silly as it sounded the sound of his heart beating.
“Y/n!”
You pulled yourself out of your thoughts by Regulus’ voice. Looking up, you frowned meeting Regulus’ impatient expression.
“What do you want, Black?”
Lily snapped. Regulus didn’t even look at Lily.
“I’m not talking to you.”
James jumped up. He didn’t mind fighting Regulus. The little jerk, for whatever reason, developed a horrible attitude and needed to be reminded that he was human like everyone else.
“You’re going to talk to me. Leave Y/n alone. She is not a doormat.”
Regulus’ cold gaze turned to James. His dislike for James Potter was clearly evident on his face.
“Fuck off, Potter.”
“No, you fuck off!”
James yelled back. You sighed before putting your face in your hands.
“Just go away, Regulus.”
Regulus shrugged before narrowing his attention back to you.
“We have a potions project to complete. I am not failing because it's your time of the month.”
Regulus didn’t give you a chance to reply before turning and leaving the great hall. All of your friends looked personally offended by Regulus’ comment. Sirius shook his head.
“Mummy is wearing off on him. I swear if I didn’t see him standing there I would think Walburga was yapping.”
You nodded, hating the fact that you felt like some pathetic “Mary Sue” that needed to be protected by friends from the person that used to protect you.
Later that night, you were on your way back to the Hufflepuff common room when Snape stepped out from a dark corner.
“Y/n, wait.”
You turned with a sigh.
“Hello, Severus. What can I do for you?”
Snape looked over his shoulder. He didn’t want any drama from the Marauders should they decide to show up.
“I apologize for that less than thrilling scene this morning.”
You shrugged.
“Not your problem. You didn’t say anything or start it. That was all Crouch.”
Severus nodded, rolling his eyes.
“He can be a bit tempestuous.”
“A bit.”
You replied as Snape took an envelope out of his pocket and handed it to you. Taking the envelope, you immediately recognized Regulus’ neat as a pin handwriting. Groaning you quickly shoved the envelopes back in Snape’s hand.
“Tell him that I said return to sender.”
Snape rolled his eyes again.
“Being a bit dramatic now, aren’t we? You have a pureblood Slytherin pinning for your attention.”
“Pinning? Is that what his actions are called now? I would hate to see him be desperate.”
“You know that he won’t believe me. I also am not an owl.”
Snape said, sounding almost bored. You snatched the letter out of his hand before digging around in your bag for a quill. Snape watched with a raised eyebrow as you wrote: “return to sender.”
“Shall I take it to the owlery myself since you are not an owl but will deliver letters for him but not me?”
Snape quickly took the letter back.
“You made your point. Have a nice night.”
“Yeah, you too.”
You muttered, suddenly not feeling like going back to the common room. Walking down the hallway, you smiled seeing professor Slughorn going in the opposite direction.
“Ms. Evans, I hope you are feeling better. Regulus said that you had a headache.”
Headache? Yeah, caused by him. You thought morbidly.
“Yes, sir. I am feeling a lot better. Sir, would it be possible to change my project partner? Regulus and I...we just aren’t a good match.”
Professor Slughorn frowned.
“I’m sorry, my dear but there isn’t anyone that I can switch you with. I thought that you were always a pet of Regulus’.”
Had it been anyone but a professor you would have laughed. A pet? That was laughable.
“Not really. We used to be friends. It's complicated, I guess.”
“I’m sorry to hear it. I always thought that the two of you were extremely compatible. I would have expected an invitation to your wedding if my thinking was correct.”
You blushed as red as a tomato on that one.
“You can expect an invitation, sir….it will just be a different groom.”
Slughorn smiled.
“Young love is a funny thing. Have a good evening.”
You waited until Slughorn was out of earshot to mutter “shit” under your breath. Now you knew that you were stuck with Regulus as a partner. Why did everyone think that Regulus and yourself were SO compatible? Did compatible people make their partner feel like scum? You didn’t think so.
A hand touching your arm, made you jump. You were surprised to see Gavin McDonald standing in front of you.
“Hi, again.”
You said, forcing a smile. Gavin nodded.
“So, I was thinking about your offer of Hogsmeade and I would really like to go with you. I don’t care what he thinks. You made it clear that there was nothing when you almost shoved Regulus on the ground. I was afraid that I was going to have to hex him when he got up. It was impressive watching you do that.”
You wanted to tell Gavin that you were apparently doing a lot of impressive non-Hufflepuff things lately but decided not to. It wasn’t his problem that you were an emotional mess. Here was the nice boy offering to go to Hogsmeade with you, as you wanted.
“That sounds nice, Gavin. I look forward to it.”
The boy grinned.
“I am on my way to hang out with some friends outside. Would you like to come?”
You nodded. There was no point in going to the library to sulk like a giant pouting mess. Why not hang out with Gavin? You did like him (not as much as Regulus, you thought). Maybe it would be worth giving some other boy a chance...especially since he was interested and inviting you.
“That sounds nice.”
You replied with a smile before following Gavin down the hallway and outside where a group of Ravenclaws sat. All of the boys immediately looked at Gavin in surprise or fear when you sat down. No one had to say it for you to know what they were thinking…
What the hell are you doing with Regulus Black’s Hufflepuff?
“You all know, Y/n, She and I are going to Hogsmeade together this weekend.”
His friends nodded before a younger student by the name of Gilderoy Lockhart decided to speak.
“I thought that you were dating that boy in Slytherin?”
You laughed as Gavin too chuckled.
“No, not at all. I’m a free-range Hufflepuff...I don’t need some Slytherin to keep me company. They are overrated creatures anyway.”
The group of boys chuckled at your joke. You forced a smile as Gavin wrapped his arm around you. The group of Ravenclaws seemed amused with your joke...now only if you could believe it.
You didn’t see Regulus standing in the shadows watching the whole scene with a frown on his face. He had heard everything that just left your pretty little mouth. Overrated? He was going to show you overrated! If you thought that little twat from Ravenclaw would be a better lover than him, you had another thing coming!
Gavin, or whatever his name was, didn’t make you come from one touch. That was all Regulus. Gavin didn’t know how to overstimulate you to the point of tears. Again, that was Regulus. Gavin, sure as hell, wasn’t going to be the one that held you in his arms after a world-shattering orgasm…
“That’s only me!”
Regulus thought with a sneer.
“It isn’t only sex. I love her.”
He added in his mind. Regulus loved you and he knew, for a fact, that you loved him.
You didn’t understand what he was going through or what he was dealing with. You didn’t know how he had all of this stupid shit thrust upon him without his wanting. Sure, he chose to be a death eater but it was to appease his parents. Regulus had to be the son that Sirius wasn’t. Even if the things that he was doing weren't right...they had to be done.
Regulus would have to make you understand…
After hanging out with Gavin, you decided it was time to head back to your common room. You would have liked to go tell Lily that you had a date with an actual boy but it was late. Lily would be sleeping and would have to wait until the next morning to hear the happy news.
As you walked past the transfiguration classroom, a set of hands reached out and pulled you inside.
“Let me go!”
You squealed as a hand closed over your mouth. In the moonlight, you could see Regulus glaring down at you.
“Gavin McDonald? Really? That’s the best that you can do?”
You tried to shove Regulus away from you but it didn’t work.
“I’m going to move my hand and you better not scream.”
He said before moving his hand away from your mouth. You took a deep breath fighting the feeling of fear. Just what would Regulus do to you in this classroom? Would he hurt you? You weren’t sure.
“It's none of your business.”
You curtly replied. Regulus raised an eyebrow….that damn eyebrow. He would give you that look when the two of you were sleeping together and you knew exactly what it meant. Regulus was displeased. This was how you got your ass spanked.
I’m not sleeping with him anymore. I’m nothing to him.
You told yourself not to even get excited but it didn’t work. You were getting wet for him as you always had. Swallowing, you took in Regulus’ appearance. The moonlight only added to his ravishing good looks.
“None of my business? Is that how you talk to me now?”
“You don’t deserve an ounce of my kindness.”
You replied, stubbornly. Regulus smirked before tilting your face to his.
“You’re wild.”
He whispered before pressing his mouth to yours. The kiss was soft at first before growing more desperate. You sighed against Regulus’ mouth as he took control of the situation and deepened the kiss. His tongue teased yours as his arm wrapped around your waist.
Merlin, he still kisses so good!
You thought as your mind went from stubborn and ready to kick his ass to a hopeless teenage girl that was finally being kissed by the crush of her dreams.
The moment that Regulus pulled away, you wanted to whine. You weren’t ready for the kiss to end. Should you ask for more? You knew that you were being a bit of a brat and would be lucky if Regulus gave you anything else.
Your eyes finally fluttered open to look at Regulus. His eyes were wide as he took in what just happened. The cold distant expression returned as he rubbed his mouth with the back of his hand.
“Fuck!”
He hissed before turning and walking from the room leaving you staring after him blinking...
I knew that this was doomed from the get-go”

All in the Family
Chapter 140: The Slug Club
Twilight mist still hung in the air around them, and the deserted station left an odd taste in their mouth as the scarlet train hung behind them without moving off for once. Steam was still pumping out of it, there were even a few pets waiting on the ground cooing or hissing at them for their owners sudden departure as the eight of them landed in Hogsmeade station.
Peter had landed painfully on a bench and didn’t feel up to moving. Regulus stumbled into seemingly nothing to him, though thankfully the Thesteral only gave him a look of mild annoyance and didn’t take a snap. The dejected look he gave James and Sirius before stalking onto the train to be alone was heart wrenching to Peter, but he really didn’t know how to help with this one, he still had his own issues to work out with those two idiots, even if he had thought the prank had its merits and could have been funny under better circumstances.
Spotting the book down in the tracks of the train, he swallowed uncomfortably and watched for several extra moments to make sure it wasn’t going to spontaneously try to run him over as he eased himself down and darted back up with his prize in hand before following Regulus in even if he didn’t know what he was going to say.
There was only one compartment with all the curtains drawn, and Regulus was sitting inside chewing on his cheek so hard Peter had to fight the urge to tell him not to bite through his face.
He sat down across from him and opened the book with a whispered, “thanks.” Regulus smiled and nodded while Peter started, but kept pausing for extra breath than was needed just in case, offering company but silence at least for whatever Regulus wanted.
Things had been going so well there for a moment, Regulus wanted to sob on his new friend's shoulder like a child. He’d really thought Sirius was trying to rekindle some old familial bonds with the two games and asking after him, but he couldn’t get the look not really Sirius had given him out of his head, and his brother hadn’t even apologized! Like he should be laughing the whole thing off like Potter had clearly wanted to back in the shop, obviously annoyed as piss at him still. Even Peter had clearly found the whole thing funny, but at least he was restraining himself from saying so and acting normal.
Regulus listened as Harry’s friends blew off Harry’s aspersions of Draco being a Death Eater though and at least found that of some interest. Harry and his mates got into fights every year it seemed over something or other, maybe he really was still being a child hoping his brother would just go back to agreeing with him about everything. He could still get along with him even if they had a different idea of what was fun now.
He was not going to be like his parents, he genuinely regretted now losing his temper and he shouldn’t expect Sirius to act exactly how he wanted him to at all times or he would be just like them. He’d either take his brother as is or not at all, and he still wasn’t sure which yet.
Frank was still detailing for Lily exactly what the invisible horse looked like as she ran her hand in wonder over the silky main she couldn’t see. They weren’t covered in blood, so the thestral gave no indication it even cared they were there anymore than Trevor hopping past them.
They were blatantly ignoring Potter as he amused himself setting up some fireworks he’d filched from the last location, because setting those off was really the best way to make everything better apparently, even if none of them would deny enjoying the show when he did.
When they saw Alice coming over though from her landing, she gave Frank a careful look and whispered, “please try to talk some sense into her,” and left them to it, going a few carriages over and then inside of one.
“Are you two really mad at me I don’t agree with you?” Alice asked in surprise as she watched the display. They’d once even agreed with her to try interacting with them more before Snape’s not too distant future hurt Lily so bad, and Sirius’ future had imploded their lives again.
“No,” he said at once, taking her hand. “She just has no confidence in herself, telling Snape off for so many years and him never listening to her, she doesn't think you can help them anymore than I do. I still don't understand why you bothered," Frank told her, aware of how harsh he sounded, but he worried his kindhearted girlfriend was going to be quickly abused by that arse. Agreeing to not avoid them didn’t feel the same as involving themselves in their lives like she was now actively trying to do.
"What Harry said really bothered him Frank," Alice patiently explained, not letting his tone affect hers one bit. "Then, this future, it's really getting to him, and with his mates still all on the ropes, I think it wouldn't hurt to offer an olive branch. He listened too, he was quite polite back there in the kitchen."
"So he knows how to charm people, we know that from only getting half the detentions he should," Frank shook his head. "I'm still on Lily's side, if you keep indulging them they'll never learn."
"They're not exactly figuring it out for themselves at this rate," she smiled. "Going round in circles like they are, trying to make everybody laugh rather than talking it out. Regulus and Potter aren't shooting each other looks anymore, I think they cleared the air and that helped a bit. I don't regret it," she finished sincerely.
He sighed in defeat, he knew he couldn't really stop her nor was he going to actively try even if he did disapprove, but tried one last time, "thought you were staying out of it?"
"I am, as much as they ask me to," she shrugged. "James didn't, he was very attentive and open even if he didn't say much."
Frank kissed her temple and squeezed her hand but let it drop as he pulled her over to the carriage Lily had gone into, piling in themselves and listening avidly to the new Slug Club.
Sirius came over to lean casually against the same carriage as him like Remus wasn't obviously still pissed at him. Sirius clucked his tongue when he received no acknowledgment, he’d given up a front row seat to those fireworks for this, but said cheerfully, "Prongs thinks I slipped you a love potion, it's perfect right? You'd be a little grumpy if I did, and now you have an excuse for your excellent flirting and groping techniques."
"Flattery doesn't get you everywhere Sirius," he grumbled, even if he did turn his head around so he could see the eye roll that earned.
Sirius just preened at the attention, as usual. Why did he have to have a crush on the biggest prat at Hogwarts again? He smiled then, that one he only ever used in the dorms for them, and was still leaning against his shoulder. Sirius had done something he explicitly hadn’t wanted to, just for him in all this, so the real question should have been what had he done to deserve such a kind hearted friend.
"Here," Sirius suddenly dug something out of his pocket and handed him a bit of parchment. "My bucket list. Would you relax and think about having some fun for once!"
Remus gazed down and felt himself flush just a bit, some of this was quite raunchy and he had no idea what at least one of those was. He meant to fold it up carefully and put it in his own pocket as a show of good fun at least, already trying to plan in his head how to subtly get Sirius off the idea he didn't need others. Padfoot really was doing his best to mature from just an impulsive hot-head, which had been endearing enough for how fun that unpredictable side could be even with the downfalls of it. This new mature thing he was trying was somehow even more- his fingers didn’t finish the first crease as he realized there was writing on the other side and flipped it over. His stomach dropped.
"That's a list of others you could hook up with too," Sirius leaned casually against his shoulder and began jabbing at a few names, some of them even surprised him. "The ones I check marked I've personally been with, just in case that bugs you too for some reason, but the others I'm pretty confident about from reliable sources. I could give you a list of gals too, if you want."
Traitorous tears pricked at the corner of his eyes and he quickly crumpled it up, shoving it into his pocket without looking at Sirius or anyone. Merlin he was being such a nancy, Sirius had never been subtle in his life about his many hook ups and he'd never given one indication to Remus that would change just because they were doing it now!
Sirius did care about him, just not the way he wanted, and he would just have to live with that. It was more than he'd ever dreamed in his life he could even have friends when he came to this school, what the hell was he even doing risking that on a fling?
He cleared his throat and was very pleased with himself when he sounded perfectly normal. "Thanks Padfoot. Do you mind, I'm trying to pay attention to what Malfoy's up to?"
Sirius shrugged and left Remus to his thoughts, he had more than enough fun shouting abuse at the top of his lungs at what that Slytherin did to his godson anyways as he joined James to gaze up at the fireworks.

Silver Soul pt 2
pairings: regulus x oc
warnings: BRIEF mention of injury; in no way am I bashing the Marauders in this, I love them to pieces but I wanted to also show their immaturity over the course of the last few years as well.
word count: 2330
summary: Celeste can’t get away from Regulus. Everywhere she turns he’s there. Eventually the burning desire to know why he won’t leave her thoughts comes to a head and she confronts him. Maybe it will work in both of their favors
pt 2
Over the next few weeks, Celeste saw the youngest Black everywhere. It was like that now that she knew him she was aware of him. Without even thinking, she would search for him in the Great Hall or catch his eye in passing in the corridor. Not only was it frustrating but it was exhilarating because he would be looking back.
Never in her life had Celeste been actively seeking for anyone. Since she was young, Celeste had always been trying to keep the onslaught of other people’s emotions from taking over her life. But now that she knew Regulus, she wanted to continue to know him. If she tried hard enough, she could even seek out his emotions. It was thrilling to know she could control that.
The first Hogsmeade trip had finally arrived and Pandora had made it a point to drag Celeste along with her. What Pandora had failed to mention was her new boyfriend Xenophilius Lovegood was tagging along as well.
“Dora,” Celeste hissed when the boy had waved at them from the entrance of Three Broomsticks. “I thought you said it would be just you and me?”
“I never said that,” Pandora laughed airily and tugged Celeste along without worry. The irritated scowl she wore slipped off when they joined the taller boy and entered the pub together.
Xenophilius was a nice guy. He was tall and pretty, with high cheekbones and long blonde hair. He was a year older than them and a Ravenclaw prefect. His blue eyes were always bright with mirth and his joy laid thick around him like a cloud. It was easy to see why Pandora fancied him.
The pub was bustling with energy. Excitement, mischief, and glee bounced off the wet walls. Everyone was ecstatic for the first Hogsmeade trip of the year. Xenophilius lead them over to a quiet table in the back and then bounced off to get their drinks.
“Isn’t he lovely” Pandora gushed as she leaned over to clutch Celeste’s hand.
Celeste plastered on a smile, suddenly overwhelmed with a rush of adoration. She blinked a few times to clear her mind as she nodded. “Just the best. Is he going to be with us the entire time?” She asked, trying to broach the subject and not offend her only friend.
“We planned on just touring Hogsmeade together. If you don’t want to third wheel then I completely understand.” Pandora said sincerely. It wasn’t meant to be brash, but it seemed like Pandora was brushing her off.
Celeste just shrugged and sat back in her seat. She stared at the knots in the table with a furrowed brow. Why would Pandora invite her to Hogsmeade when she was just going to ditch her for Xenophilius? It would’ve been much more productive for her to spend the weekend with Madam Pomfrey trying to work on her control of her empathy.
Xenophilius joined them shortly later with three Butterbeers. Celeste would’ve left but she didn't want to be rude, so she stayed and sipped at her drink at the other two fawned over each other. It wasn't Pandora’s fault. The girl was just trying to be nice. Celeste should’ve known.
Stifled giggles erupted from the table behind them and Celeste subtly turned to see what they were all about.
“shut it, Wormtail, or he’ll hear,” Sirius Black hissed at his friend across from him. Sirius was just an older version of his younger brother. Same gray eyes, high cheekbones, and long silky black hair. The only difference was the easy smirk that never left his face.
Celeste knew them well. A little group of four in the year above her that liked to call themselves the Marauders. Their leader, James Potter, was tall and dark with messy black hair and dangerously placed glasses. His laugh was loud and always forthcoming. Beside him at all times was Sirius Black himself. The pair were always followed by Peter Pettigrew. He was a quieter blond with giant eager blue eyes. He trailed after them like a lost puppy, always soaking up whatever shenanigan Black and Potter got into. The last, Remus Lupin, was the only one that Celeste knew personally. They both spent a lot of time in the infirmary.
Being around Lupin was physically exhausting. The pain that one boy could hold in his body always threatened to knock her over. She could feel exactly what he felt and it was torture. She didn't know how he endured it. In her first year, after a really bad episode in her potions class, she was dropped in the infirmary in a bed next to Remus. Madam Pomfrey had no clue why Celeste wasn't resting and had no idea why she was feeling as she did.
“I don’t understand, Minerva,” Pomfrey said, worried to the Professor. Her cold hand brushed against Celeste’s burning hot forehead. “There’s nothing wrong with her.”
Celeste clutched at her side, skin itching and raw. Her head swam with pain she didn't even know she could ever have. After slipping sleeping draught into her tea, Celeste drifted off into a fitful sleep and woke a few hours later alone and in a haze. She glanced over at the bed next to her and saw a boy sitting up, a book resting in his hands. He sucked in a deep breath, wincing in pain at the movement. Celeste winced in time with him.
Rising from the bed, she slid back the thin curtain separating them and wavered on her feet. The boy stared at her with wide eyes, “Hello?”
“You’re hurting,” she said bluntly and pointed at him. “I feel it.”
“What?”
Celeste studied his pinched brow and the one hand pressed to his ribs. White bandages covered a large gash across his neck and two little ones were pressed to a cut on his cheek. “Your pain hurts.”
The boy blinked at her in confusion, “Yeah, I know. Its painful.”
Celeste rolled her eyes and took a step closer. “No, I feel your pain in here,” she said and pointed to both her heart and her head. “You’re also scared and angry.”
He stared at her again, at a loss for words. How did she know these things about him? It wasn't like he wore a button that said everything he was feeling.
“How do you know?”
She sighed, “I just told you, I can feel it.”
“How?”
Celeste shrugged. “I don't know. But I guess what I'm trying to say is that you aren't alone. I'm Celeste Gallant.” She smiled weakly and extended a hand.
The boy stared at it for a moment. He had absolutely no idea what was going on. “Remus Lupin.”
Celeste beamed and slid into the bed beside him. “Well, Remus, looks like you and I are going to be spending a lot of time together.”
And they did. Celeste usually ended up in the infirmary at least twice a week. She was usually only there to escape the sea of emotions that paraded around the school, but she always made sure she was in there during the day after the full moon. It was easier for him to have someone there who understand his pain.
Now sitting across the room from her, Remus flashed her a tiny smile and Celeste returned it. She shifted her gaze to his friends. The other three were bent over, whispering loudly and occasionally interrupted by giggles as they glanced over to a another table. Celeste followed their gaze until her eyes locked with a familiar pair.
Regulus was already watching her. It was something she had become accustomed to since the episode in charms. A question was always on his face, but he kept his distance, too afraid to ask. Celeste cocked a brow and glanced between his table and his brothers’. Regulus was joined by boys he called his friends, other Slytherins who kept their distance from Celeste and Pandora for the most part, but had no qualms about hexing the table of giggling boys.
Severus Snape was on his left as Barry Crouch Jr sat to his right. Avery, Mulciber, and Evan Rosier completed the circle. They were all caught up in their own conversations, oblivious to the plotting of the Marauders. Celeste wasn’t sure she wanted to be there when the plan erupted, and she was sure it would erupt.
Downing the rest of her Butterbeer, she took one last look at the scheming boys and cocked a brow to Regulus. He was already watching her and copied her movements, turning to whisper something to his friends.
“Hey, Dora,” Celeste whispered, tapping her cousins arm. Pandora turned to her with a smile. “I just remembered I have to go get new quills, meet you back at the dorm later?”
“Do you want us to come with you?” Xenophilius asked, already reaching to gather his things.
Celeste gave them a grin and shook her head. “No need, but thank you. You too have fun.”
Pandora stared at her for a moment, blue eyes studying her face, but she must have found what she was looking for because she gave her a gentle smile. “Oh course. Be safe.”
Celeste followed her gaze to both the table of Slytherins and the Marauders. Tensions between the two groups have always been high, increasingly so as rumors of war continue to blossom. With one last smile, Celeste rose from her chair and zigzagged her way through the mobs of students bubbling about their summers. Bursting out into the early October air, Celeste pushed past newcomers and ducked into the little alcove of the shop next door. She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited. Moments later, the door of the pub bursted back open and the shrill laughs and conversation from inside spilled out onto the street.
Stepping out of the alcove, Celeste met the eye of the boy she couldn’t stop thinking about. He was dressed in dark green robes, hair combed neatly to the side. It was very different from Celeste’s loose blue jeans and tucked in button up. She was starting to understand the vast differences of his Pure-blood raising. Pushing that aside, Celeste cocked her head.
“Why do you keep staring at me?” She asked, not even giving a hello to buffer her assault.
Regulus blinked at her, surprised by the bluntness. He tucked one hand into the pocket of his robe and glanced around. Hogsmeade was bustling with people. Witches and Wizards were going about their daily business as school kids giggles and talked all throughout the street. No one even passed a glance to the pair.
“You are the most unique person I’ve ever met,” Regulus answered, gray eyes unrelenting to give up anything else. Celeste remained silent, needing a little bit more than that. “I have never met anyone like you. Ever.”
“So you’ve said.”
Regulus pursed his lips and took a step forward. “Do you understand how rare you are? The Ministry classifies Empath’s as extraordinary individuals, high up there along with seers.” His gaze shifted around them again before he leaned in. “They require registration for it.”
Celeste furrowed her brow. If this was the case, then why hadn’t Dumbledore or Pomfrey told her any of this. They were the most intellectual Wizards she knew, yet they had failed to mention this extremely crucial part. It was almost as important as the werewolf registry. Another way to control her when she didn’t have control herself.
“How much do you know about this?” Celeste asked, gulping down the lump of panic in her throat. “How much do you know about me?”
“My parents have all these books at home about literally everything,” Regulus explained. “After my brother-“ he trailed off, hands tightening in his robes before shaking his head. “I had a lot of free time and spent my holidays reading. In class the other day when you snapped on me,” he chuckled lightly and gave her a tiny smile. “It struck. If you want I can show you them. I’m sure the library has all kind of literature on it.”
Celeste was stunned. No one had ever been this concerned about her before. Not even her parents. They were all along the edges of Pandora. It was a gift, don’t question it. But how could Celeste not question it when it consumed her day.
Clenching her jaw, Celeste stared at him. She could feel the excitement brimming underneath his worry. Worry that she wouldn’t expect. But there was something else.
“In turn, what do you desire?” She asked, knowing that no one ever offered their help freely.
Regulus gave her a shy smile. “Um, I just want to know if my brother hates me.”
“What?”
That was not what she had expected him to say. More along the lines of blackmail, use this to hurt somebody or something. But he just wanted something as simple as that? Regulus ducked his head, toeing the cobblestones beneath them. Shame coursed through him, but why. What was he ashamed of? Caring for his brother? But just underneath it was overwhelming loneliness. Celeste frowned.
“You miss him.”
He didn’t even try to deny it. Not that he could lie to her anyway. He kept his eyes on the ground as he nodded. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you why,” he started softly and lifted his head. “But I just need to know if he hates me.”
“I’m sure he doesn’t-“
“I need to know, Celeste. For sure.” The burning intensity of his gaze had her agreeing before she could even think.
“Okay, I’ll help you.” Celeste said.
If not to be kind then at least to understand what she was dealing with. For once in her lifetime, someone else was extending the branch out to her. Regulus was giving the the opportunity to have her own freedom. To have control over this power she had.
Who was she to deny that?

Like Father Like Daughter
Father! Remus x Daughter! Reader
Also Reader x Oliver Wood, but lightly, a couple kisses xx
Authors note: I SUCK at time, years, and counting, I do not know what the deal is in 1975 in the HP universe so please please excuse that, merci lovely reader. Also! This was requested over a year ago although, as we know that’s about how long it takes me to write shit.
Request: Remus having a 7th year prefect daughter and not knowing until he teaches her?
Summary: Set during POA
Warnings: ANGST and daddy issues! Death! Bc I like trauma
Word Count: 1.9k
After an incredibly eventful train ride to school, and ensuring that Harry and his friends were okay, Remus hurried up to the headmaster's office. As it was his first year teaching there, and considering all that was going on with Sirius Black Dumbledore scheduled a meeting with the new professor.
“I don’t anticipate it will be an easy year, but no year here is ever easy or simple. Especially since Harry arrived on campus,” Dumbledore said.
“It was nice to see him again, he’s gotten so old, and he looks so much like James,” Remus said, melancholy lacing his voice.
“The boy could use some good positive reinforcement from somebody who knew his parents so personally. Please, do not share information regarding Sirius, I would rather not bring him down. Instead, I would prefer he focuses on his studies. Especially since we have such a talented Defense Against the Dark Arts professor this year,” Dumbledore said.
“Of course, now is that all for now?” Remus asked as he gathered his things, wanting to spend some time on the grounds before the student's arrival.
“Yes, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this year. I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what Hogwarts has to offer.”
“I’m sorry?” He asked, pausing to look at the headmaster, confused by his statement on the school.
“Oh nothing,” Dumbledore said with one of his signature winks.
Remus smiled, unsure how else to respond. “Well, I’ll see you at the feast later tonight.”
“Certainly,” Dumbledore said, seemingly having forgotten about his odd statement, already focusing on something on his desk.
Meanwhile, Y/n went along with her boyfriend, Oliver Wood to the feast.
“I wonder what kind of crazy shit will happen this year,” you said, thinking aloud.
“Maybe we’ll get a somewhat normal year for once,” he proposed, hopefully. “And a good bloody season.”
“At Hogwarts?” You retorted. “Impossible. And of course you’ll have a good season, you’re the best damn quidditch player I’ve ever seen.”
Despite a bit of red flushing his cheeks, Wood brushed off the comment. “I wonder who this years Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is.”
“I haven’t heard anything,” she said with a shrug.
“Well we’ll see,” he said and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Enjoy your feast with Weasley.”
You smiled back at him, “Oh I will, it’s a promise.” you said before splitting, as you went to go meet with Percy Weasley, and Dumbledore before the feast's official start.
The feast went as normal for Y/n, she was mostly preoccupied with seeing friends she hadn’t seen since the last school year ended, and her head girl duties. Being a Gryffindor she felt that the year would present some challenges, considering the difficulties her house had caused in the past two years. Y/n had nothing against Harry Potter, in fact she was quite fond of him, having tutored him in a couple of subjects. Although, she understood the trouble he and his friends were fond of.
Remus on the other hand was unnerved at the announcement of the Head Girls last name, La Rosa. Her being Head Girl meant she was a seventh year, meaning she must have been born in 1976. The math happened in his head faster than Remus would like to admit. Remus absolutely knew a La Rosa in 1975 who managed a disappearing act after a couple of months together, and a small scare of sorts. Although, he brushed off the arithmetic, and Dumbledore’s dubious wink with a large swig of wine, which earned him a judgemental scoff from Snape.
Eventually, of course, the feast ended and the tired first years returned to their rooms while friends and couples reunited, and Filch stalked the halls with Mrs. Norris close behind.
Both Remus and Y/n’s day started off with breakfast in the Great Hall as each had a first period in their schedule. Y/n’s day kicked off with charms, and ended with Defense Against the Dark Arts. She ate breakfast with Oliver and a couple of their friends, yet left early enough so that the two could walk to class together without him being late. They had a couple of classes together but knew that as the year went on their other half would respectively get quite busy.
Y/n was having a fantastic first day, excited for lunch she made her way from the Towers to the Hall, which was abuzz with talk of “Professor Lupin.”
“He let us do actual magic in class!” you heard one third year exclaim with a great deal of excitement.
“I’m just glad he didn’t prattle on about his book deal for the entire period,” some Ravenclaw said to their friend which made Y/n laugh.
“How was Snape?” Wood asked as you sat down next to him, he had sent a couple of letters over summer bragging about how he wouldn’t be taking Potions, and she was.
“The same, angry that he isn’t teaching DADA, now I’m more intrigued by this Professor Lupin,” you responded.
“Merlin, Y/n, it’s the only bloody thing I’ve heard all day!”
“I heard someone earlier say, ‘I’m glad he didn’t brag about his book deal through the whole class.’” You responded with a giggle.
“I can’t believe they ever hired that man,” Wood said with a snort.
With that the two of you started lunch, your friends Ethel and Roberto joining you only a little while into the block.
You had a couple of classes and a free period from the time spanning between lunch and when you finally got to step into Professor Lupin’s class. The buzz about the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. had turned into a roar in just a few hours.
Despite being early you were not the first student in the class. It being a seventh-year course there were only eight of you taking the class, and there were already five of your peers sitting at desks. One of which being your boyfriend who had saved you a seat near the front of the class.
“You are late La Rosa,” he rudely teased as you set your things down and sat next to him.
“You know I can go find another seat, right?” As if on cue the last of your classmates filed in and filled the last couple of seats.
“Can you?” He asked with a goofy smile plastered over his face.
“Well Weasley owes me a favor and I’m sure you’d love to sit next to him for the whole three hour period.” “Oh that’s just cruel sweetheart.” Before you could retort your new professor walked into the room, immeadiatley silencing the class. Oftentimes the last class of the day meant students were groggy, and had shorter attention spans than usual, but this class was on high alert.
“Good afternoon, let’s go ahead and introduce ourselves however you deem fit. My name is Remus Lupin, and I am clearly your Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor this year, any questions?”
In response you along with a couple of your peers shook your head ‘no’.
“Fantastic, let’s go ahead and start with our Head Boy, if you could introduce yourself sir?”
Percy excitedly introduced himself to the class, not failing to make the new professor aware of his many, many achievements, after him a slytherin you had a strong level of distaste for, and on it went until you were left as the last student to introduce herself.
“My name is Y/f/n Y/m/n La Rosa, I want to write spell books once I leave Hogwarts, my favorite Quidditch team is Puddlemere, and my favorite food is milk chocolate although I’ve been told chocolate isn’t a food I disagree.” “I have to take your side Miss. La Rosa, chocolate is in fact a food, and deserves its own damn food group,” Lupin shot you a smile, then looked around at the small class. “I feel like you should all be writing down that your professors favorite food is chocolate for when you have to impress me at the end of the year.”
Remus was genuinely confused by Y/n’s presence. He had decent intuition and something about the seventh year was throwing him off, and it wasn’t bad which honestly only confused him more. He decided it would be better to get ahead of it in order to not let his thoughts ruin his teaching.
“Well that’s it, class is over. Miss La Rosa if you wouldn’t mind staying after class for just a moment?” “Of course professor,” you said.
“Ooh in trouble already?” Oliver said and gave you a peck to which you rolled your eyes. “I’ll see you in the common room later love.” “Don’t forget our meeting tonight Y/n,” Percy said as he sauntered out the room which earned a second eye roll from you.
Even though it didn’t take long, it felt like an eternity for the room to clear. All of a sudden your throat was in your heart, or, something. Whatever it was something was happening.
“I know this is going to come off as odd but I have an important question,” Lupin said, his eyes kind, no sense of a reprimand coming.
“Sure Professor, what is it?”
“What’s your mothers name?”
You figured he noticed your last name, and had maybe worked with your mum.
“Marie Dulcinea La Rosa,” you said. “Why?”
Remus’ mind started racing at a million miles an hour. “Did she attend Ilvermorny?” “Yes, is everything alright?” “I’m sorry dear, just two more questions.”
You responded with a single nod.
“Did your mother ever tell you who your father is, and are you a werewolf?”
A look of shock crossed your face and you clutched your bag. “I’m not supposed to answer that question professor.” “Y/n, I am, I also dated a Marie La Rosa in 1975, that same Marie attended Ilvermorny.”
“Are you trying to insinuate-”
“Yes.”
You walked out of the classroom as fast as your feet could carry you. You weren’t quite sure where you were going but you were crying and you wanted to be as far away from Remus Lupin as possible and your mind was far to occupied to think up a destination. Somehow that destination ended up being Dumbledore’s office, which by some means was open to you.
“You must have known, you know everything.” Not the best choice of words but it seemed to get the point across.
“That Professor Lupin is your father? Yes dear I did happen to know that.”
“And how long have you known that?” “Since the year you were born, Y/n, your mother and father both fought in the war and your mother came to me when she was pregnant with you. She didn’t want your father to know because she wanted him to stay and fight when she couldn’t. She wanted to raise you away from the war but she couldn’t ask him to abandon the cause.” “Does he know that she’s dead?” “No I am afraid that he doesn’t.” “Marie is dead?”
You turned to see Remus Lupin standing in the entrance of the office. He was distressed and had clealry followed you to the headmasters office.
You gave a curt nod to answer his question.
“Y/n, I am so sorry, I didn’t know, I shouldn’t have ever let your mother think that I would value anything over her and you.”
“You have to know how hard it is growing up a werewolf with absoluetly no help. With no one to help you through your first transition, with no one to tell you that everything’s going to be okay. Then on top of that growing up thinking that you were nothing to your father, and losing your mum at 14?”
Remus reached into his pocket and pulled out a mostly intact chocolate bar and held it out, towards his daughter.
“Let me fix it? Please.” It was a plea, and a kind request, an apology, all tied up in a chocolate bar.

3. Lily, Lupin, and Lilacs
Remus made his way to the sixth floor all by himself before Ancient Runes lesson. He’d spent breakfast being entertained by Peter, who had turned into a rat to freak out some first years by going for a swim in their cereal bowls. The performance was cut short though when they noticed a couple of teachers eyeing them from across the Great Hall. James leapt to his feet, grabbed Wormtail, and hurried out of there, yelling something about his ‘poorly behaved pet’.
The lesson had been going on for nearly five minutes when the classroom door flew open and a very flustered Lily Evans burst in, muttering apologies and something about having overslept and how it had never happened before. She went for the nearest seat, which happened to be right next to Remus, and pulled out her things very slowly, trying not to make any more sounds.
Professor Argyle stared at her blankly for a moment and Remus was sure Gryffindor was about to lose ten points, but instead… “Make sure you go to bed at a reasonable time tonight, Miss Evans. Mr. Lupin, could you kindly share your notes with Miss Evans…” And she proceeded to teach the class.
Remus pushed his notes closer to Lily so she could copy the five or six sentences they had been instructed to copy by professor Argyle. “Thanks,” she whispered, scribbling frantically.
About halfway through the lesson, Remus started hearing a strange muffled gurgling sound. The classroom was filled with the scratching of quills on parchment, so it took him a couple of minutes to realise that it was Lily’s stomach that was growling greedily. “Hungry?” He whispered, stifling a laugh.
“Hmpf… I can’t even concentrate on this. Is that ‘leech’ or ‘cockroach’?” She squinted at a rune in a paragraph they had been instructed to translate.
“Leech,” Remus whispered and bent over to retrieve something from his bag. “Here.” He pushed half a bar of chocolate across the desk. “Also, I have no doubt that you know this, but that should be ‘lake’, not ‘puddle’.”
Lily seemed to be taken aback briefly, but then she gave him a genuine smile and breathed ‘thanks, Remus,’ before breaking off a piece and shoving it in her mouth. They had always been friendly with each other. Incidentally, only when James wasn’t around. Or Snape, for that matter. And now that September was drawing to a close, they had started exchanging little interactions here and there more frequently. It was only natural, since some of the classes they had both picked up for their sixth year only had small handfuls of students, none of whom were James or Snape.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you be late for class,” Remus whispered brightly, watching Lily eat the last crumbs of his chocolate, even licking little specks off her fingers once it was all gone.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been late. I just had so much homework yesterday and it got so late and… I need to revisit my homework planner.”
“Yeah, it’s been a long month…”
Just then, the bell rang throughout the castle, announcing the end of the lesson. Both Gryffindors started packing their things and Lily was the first to reach the door while Remus was still fiddling with the zipper of his bag.
“Well?” He heard her say and looked up to see her waiting for him in the doorway. “Let’s go, I don’t want to be late again!” And they left the classroom together to head to a double Care of Magical Creatures lesson.
* * *
Sirius was eyeing Remus, who was curled up in one of the armchairs with a thick, dusty book. Black had just made himself comfortable in front of the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room. James was servicing his broomstick in anticipation of the upcoming Quidditch season, and Peter was still working on his Potions essay (James’ freshly finished one lying in front of him). It was one of the quieter evenings, the likes of which occurred more frequently since they had started their sixth year.
It had been a whole month since the beginning of term; a whole month since Sirius was reunited with Moony. A whole month since he had been having these new, curious feelings for him. He kept telling himself that it would go away eventually, but there was a part of him that didn’t particularly care for that to happen. He had spent a whole month relentlessly staring at Moony and he could not think of anyone or anything more beautiful, and he had never thought that about anyone for a whole month straight.
He had always liked Moony’s scars; not the pain that they were born out of, of course. But he always liked the way that they looked, as if counteracting how much Remus himself hated them. Sirius remembered the first time he heard his friend call them ugly, back in their second year, and he couldn’t believe his ears. He thought they looked cool; they bore witness of Remus’ strength and resilience. But now he thought they were beautiful -- maybe he had always thought them beautiful?
Throughout the past month, Sirius had been catching himself wanting to wrap his arms around Moony at the most random moments. Or hold his hand. Or kiss him. And then he’d wonder if he would realistically ever be able to do that. He wanted it all to go away, but he also...didn’t. Deep down, more so than that, he wanted to know if there was any chance at all that Moony could like him back. So far, his inventory of clues was that Remus wasn’t girl-crazy, but that could have easily been attributed to him being a bit of a bookworm. A lot of a bookworm.
But then, there was this vague feeling, which Sirius couldn’t put into words, that him and Moony had always had a different kind of...chemistry; different from him and Prongs or him and Wormtail. If only there had been a way to explore that without putting their friendship at risk...
All of a sudden, Sirius’ whole body perked up with a brilliant idea, and before he could question its brilliance further, the words slipped out of his mouth.
“You guys know I’m bisexual, right?” Sirius’ eyes lingered on Remus for just a moment longer before he casually looked down to inspect his fingernails.
“Er...you’re what?” James looked at him puzzled, as if he’d just been woken up from a nap.
“Bisexual, Prongs,” the Black replied with an exaggerated sigh. “Means I swing both ways.”
“And...have you?” Peter asked with some kind of a mixture of awe and confusion.
“Have I what?”
“Snogged a boy?”
“Not yet.” Sirius’ gaze flickered over to Remus for a split second; the werewolf was still adamantly staring at his book but Sirius could see that his eyes were fixated on a single spot on the page.
“How do you know then?” Peter asked and James shuffled his stare from him back to Sirius.
“How do people know they’re straight before they get to snog anyone? Or how does Prongs know he wants to spend the rest of his life making sweet love to Evans without having so much as accidentally bumped elbows with her?”
It seemed to take a second for James to register the answer but then he shrugged and nodded. “Fair enough.”
“So… Has anyone in particular caught your eye?” Peter asked and Sirius restrained himself from looking at Remus.
“Nope, no one in particular.”
For a little while, no one said anything, blankly staring at one another as if confunded. Then, Peter went back to his potions essay and James resumed polishing his broom handle.
“So?” Sirius’ voice was tinged with annoyance now.
“So what?” James asked without looking up.
“You lot okay with that? Any thoughts? Feedback? Anything?”
“‘Course we are okay with it!” Peter affirmed.
“Now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense,” James mumbles casually, and Sirius was about to inquire further about that statement, but then he realised that Remus was still frozen in the same position, still pretending to read the same page.
“Moony?”
“What?” He answered rather quickly.
“Any thoughts?”
“Of course I am okay with it, Sirius,” he punctuated his irritated response by closing his book with a thud.
“Sorry we’re not more shocked, mate,” James shrugged.
* * *
James did his best to keep his focus on professor Slughorn, but his gaze would inadvertently land on the side of Lily Evans’ face time and time again during that day’s Potions lesson. And then, once in a while, he’d look over at Snape; he couldn’t help but wonder why Lily and him weren’t friends anymore. He was happy about it, no doubt; but curious nonetheless.
Even with those distractions, James had to admit that it was an interesting lesson. Slughorn was telling them about the strongest love potion in the world, Amortentia. There was a whole couldronfull of it and James was quite aware of the fact that everyone in the classroom was leaning forward ever so slightly, trying to get closer to its intoxicating scent (which, apparently, smelled of different things to every single person).
A couple of the students jumped in their seats at the sound of a loud knock on the door. Slughorn stared at it for a second and then shuffled over to open it. James looked over at Peter and both grinned when they heard the sound of Sirius’ voice.
“Sorry, sir. Professor McGonagall sent me to get Potter. It’s about Quidditch…”
“Right now? In the middle of the lesson?”
“You know how she gets just before the season starts, sir,” Sirius’ voice carried a note of very well faked innocence.
“Ah yes, I daresay, I wouldn’t want to get in the way of Minerva and the Quidditch cup…” Slughorn wheezed and then mumbled something about ‘insufferable’ and ‘fury’. “Very well then, just make sure to get today’s notes from one of your friends, James.”
James scrambled to his feet, shoved all his stuff in his bag, and rushed out of the classroom. They had done this sort of thing so many times, and had planned so many different, slight variations of it, that he wasn’t worried about getting caught at all anymore. He grinned at Sirius and both started down the corridor, to wait around the corner. If James wasn’t much mistaken, Peter was about to use one of those fake blood capsules from Muggle jokes shops that Remus had introduced them to a while ago.
Sure enough, no more than five minutes later, Peter appeared with red paint down his front. The brilliance of this particular trick was that Slughorn tried to magic Wormtail’s supposed nosebleed away, but since his nose wasn’t really bleeding, the spell didn’t do anything. Pretty quickly, Slughorn gave up and sent Peter to the hospital wing.
“Why did it smell like coffee, lilacs, and Moony in there?”
There was a second’s pause and then James turned to Peter, shock and curiosity mirrored in his face too.
“What?” Sirius lifted his hands in a brief shrug when his two friends exchanged very eloquent and very obvious looks. Then he explained rather proudly: “I’ve been able to pick up even the most subtle scents a lot more since I’ve started casually transforming into a massive black dog. Was Remus here already to get you out of Potions?”
James, and by the looks of it, Peter too, knew that the cauldron full of Amortentia was seated nearest to the door, and the only scent that Sirius could have possibly been picking up was that. And it smelled like Moony to him.
“No er…” James shook his head as if waking up from some kind of a trance. “Yeah, Merlin’s beard, that’s incredible! That you can smell things like a bloody dog now!”
“Yeah… Completely!” Peter agreed. “Incredible!”
“Come on, you must have noticed things like that too since last year?” Sirius shrugged again and his two friends exchanged looks, again. “Anywho,” he rolled his eyes, probably thinking that they were trying to mess with him. “Shall we make a quick stop at the kitchen?”

James Potter and the Retelling of the True Story Chapter Two: Post Prank
ao3
masterpost
It was the end of fourth year, and the infamous fight had happened. I hadn't known about the prank before it happened. I know that I had done some messed up stuff in the past, but I wouldn't have done that, and I certainly wouldn't have let Sirius get away with it if I knew about it. It wasn't that I was trying to defend Snape. I thought (and still think) that Snape deserves all the worst things to happen to him. But Remus. Remus is one of the few people in the world who should never have to face any horrible things happening to them ever.
I just had to convince you that I wasn't involved in the prank at all, so you can imagine how hard it was to convince the people in my life. I don't want to seem like I'm bragging or anything, but I did save Snape's life after all. I don't think I would have done that if I was involved in the planning.
The first thing I did after saving Snape and taking him to the infirmary was check on Remus who was also in the infirmary at that point. He was still asleep and he didn't know what happened yet.
"James," he rasped when he woke up. "Something happened last night. What happened? Was it bad? Did I hurt someone?"
"Woah, one question at a time bud," I said, handing him a healing potion. "Drink this and I'll tell you everything."
I don't even want to think about the look on his face when I told him. He was completely and utterly shocked. He was heartbroken, the poor kid. I mean, I was heartbroken too, but not nearly as heartbroken as he was (as I was not in love with the person who just betrayed me).
"Are you okay?" I asked when I was done explaining the story. "Well, no, of course, you're not okay. That's to be expected, but how are you feeling? What do you need?"
"I, um, I--" he began, but it was clear that he wasn't going to get anything out. Just then, the infirmary door opened. Remus saw who it was first, and I watched him turn green. I turned around to see a very distraught Sirius standing there.
"Remus," he breathed out. I looked at Remus for a second before storming over to Sirius and forcing him into the corridor. "Potter, what the hell? I need to apologize."
"No, you need to give him space right now," I said angrily. "You need to give him whatever he needs. This isn't about you and making you feel better. It is about him. It's all about him from now on. Whatever he wants, he gets it. Do you understand me?"
"Yes," Sirius replied, becoming complacent. He looked like what he looked like when his parents would yell at him. I hated when he looked like that, but he deserved it.
"What the actual fuck were you thinking?" I asked. Sirius was very taken aback. "No, tell me because I need to understand. I need to know what could have possibly possessed you to do that to him. To Remus. To our friend. To your...to your...well to your Remus! How could you do that to him?"
"I don't know!" he yelled back. "I don't know, okay? I was just so mad at Sniv for saying yet another horrible thing about muggleborns and 'halfbreeds,' and I just wanted him to suffer."
"You didn't think about how Remus would suffer too?" I asked, completely appalled. I took a breath. "What would you have done if Remus hurt him?"
"He wasn't going to hurt him," Sirius stated, but he didn't seem sure. "He was just going to scare him. I wasn't going to let anything happen."
"I can't talk to you right now," I said after that beautiful response.
"I need to apologize to him," he begged.
"Well, after what you just said to me, I think you need to work on what you're going to say to him," I stated. "Just stay away from him. Wait for him to come to you."
I left him in the corridor after that. I knew that Remus wasn't going to admit it, but he needed me. He was just sitting in his bed staring at Snape. I sat down next to him.
"How are you feeling? If you feel better, we should ask Pomphrey if you can leave. You shouldn't have to sit here with him," I said.
"Are they going to kick me out?" he asked. He was so so scared, and I didn't have an answer. I wanted to protect him. All I wanted at that moment was to take all his pain away. I felt absolutely horrible, and there was nothing I could do. So, I did what I could do, and I took him up to our dorm and made sure that Sirius didn't bother him.
...
They didn't kick Remus out of school (obviously), but that didn't really solve everything. Snape had stopped bothering Remus and Lily as much because he was scared of what had happened. That also hadn't helped at all. Remus was terrified every day that Snape would tell everyone, and Snape's weird behavior made Lily question the situation.
"What did you do to Sev?" she asked me one day in the library. I figured that he didn't tell her the full story because he was embarrassed.
"I didn't do anything, Evans, and I'm trying to study," I answered, not looking up from my book. She stayed there staring at me. "What do you need? I didn't do anything to the slimy git."
"Well, I know that Sirius was involved, so I'm willing to bet that you were too," she said. Now, this girl was (and is) the love of my life, but when she said that, I saw red, and I just flipped my shit.
"Just because Sirius did something horrible, it doesn't mean that I was involved. He did something awful, and I would never do that. The fact that you think that I would do such a thing just because my best friend was involved clearly shows that you're just as prejudiced as the rest of this bloody school," I spat out angrily. I picked up my books and stood up. "I'm sorry for the disturbance, Madam Pince."
"James," Lily started. "I'm sorry."
"Forget about it."
...
Remus told me that I could forgive Sirius, but I told him point blank that I wouldn't until he did. Peter sympathized with both parties, and he tried his best to be nice to both of them. I couldn't blame him for that; he was always kind of like that.
It wasn't that Sirius wasn't trying to make amends. He was. He apologized daily. Each and every one was sincere. He didn't just apologize though. He showed he was sorry. He wasn't getting into any trouble, and he was getting good grades in class. He was also not sleeping or eating. Neither was Remus. They were both a mess.
I knew full well that it was because they needed each other, but they were both too stubborn to admit that. Also, the ball was completely in Remus's court. It was all up to him.
"Rem," Sirius said one day while Remus was playing chess with Peter, and Sirius and I were sitting on opposite ends of the couch not talking in the common room. "I'm so, so, so sorry."
"Sirius," I started.
"No," Remus said, looking at me. "I don't need you to yell at him again. I'll do it." He turned his attention toward Sirius for the first time in weeks. "Stop fucking apologizing to me. I'm not going to forgive you. I'm not, and you don't deserve it. So stop. Please."
Remus stood up and began to walk away, and Sirius just sat there.
"I…" Sirius croaked, clearly taken aback by the first words Remus had uttered to him in a long time. Remus turned around and stared at him expectantly. "I don't apologize for you to forgive me. I apologize so that you know that I feel bad. I don't deserve your forgiveness, but you don't deserve bad things to happen to you. I need you to understand that this never should have happened to you. Nobody should ever hurt you." Everyone just stared at him. "You should stay down here and play with Pete. I'll go up to the dorm."
Sirius left and Remus sat back down. Nobody said anything else. We all just sat there and stared. I looked at Remus, and he just stared at the floor.
"Are you...I mean, you don't have to, but…" I began. He stared at me, completely shell-shocked. He stood up abruptly.
"I'm going to talk to him."
"Yeah," I said, feeling relieved.
Now, obviously, I didn't see this first hand, but Remus and Sirius both gave me their sides of the story afterward. So, Remus went upstairs to the dorm to find Sirius sobbing in his bed.
"Sirius," Remus said. Nothing. "Sirius, can you please look at me? I'm not here to yell at you. I'm tired of being mad at you."
"You should stay mad at me forever. I deserve it," Sirius replied through tears.
"Oh, quit being so melodramatic," Remus said with an eye roll. Sirius smiled slightly at him. "I forgive you, okay? I forgave you a long time ago. I can never stay mad at you, and you know that. No matter how much I hate it, I can never stay mad at you."
"Then why did you ignore me for so long?" Sirius asked, wiping away his tears. Remus smiled at him.
"I like to make you squirm, you twat," Remus joked. He sobered. "It also took me a while to understand. I didn't get what I did to make you hurt me like that. I didn't get it. I realized that it was never about me, and it was always about Snape, but that didn't exactly make me feel better. You betrayed me for a silly prank, and that hurt a lot."
"It wasn't a prank. I would never hurt you because of a prank," Sirius said, but he immediately wanted to take it back. Remus stared at him expectantly. "I should never hurt you, no matter what the reason. This isn't an excuse. I need you to know it's not an excuse, but the reason that I did it was because Sniv kept saying that you deserved to have scars. He said that you deserved to be tortured, and I just wanted him to hurt because of that. You are so perfect and amazing, and you don't deserve anything bad, and it was killing me that anyone would say that. But, in trying to avenge you or whatever, I ended up hurting you."
"Oh," Remus said. He sat down on the bed next to Sirius. "You always do the right thing for the wrong reason, don't you, Black."
"I'm so sorry, Rem," Sirius said again just to really drive the point home.
"I'm well aware of that," Remus said, putting an arm around him to pull him in for a side hug. Sirius yawned. "Tired?"
"Yeah, I, um, I haven't been able to sleep since everything," Sirius said, trailing off.
"Neither have I," Remus admitted. He looked down at Sirius. "How about we have a lie-down?"
"Really?" Sirius asked, eyes lighting up. Remus smiled.
"Really," Remus replied, lying down in Sirius's bed. Sirius laid on Remus's chest. They were both asleep in minutes. They didn't exactly tell me about the nap part, but I was the one who found them sleeping, so I didn't need to be told. I slept soundly for the first time in weeks that night. We all did. Things were looking up, and we were all young and happy.

Her
A/N: This is my first one shot in nearly three years and I know it is not the best. Instructive criticism is definitely appreciated, but please do not be rude!
*DIDN’T PROOF*
Last note: (y/n)= your name // (y/p)= your Patronus
Word Count: 2,508
It is no secret that you and Severus were in love. Although, it was also no secret that his heart was once completely enthralled by Lily Evans. So on the day that you were heading towards the Slytherin common room to meet up with Severus for a study date, it felt like a dagger to the heart when you found Lily hugging him while telling him she had missed him. It had felt so strange to see someone in his arms that had not been you. It was draining, captivating, and horrific all in one. At this moment, there was nothing you could do except watch and see how it played out. If you interrupted, there is a chance you'll never know what would've been if you hadn't witnessed what is right before your eyes. Before you could fully process what is going on, you hopped behind the coroner with a quick hitch of the breath, hoping neither had seen you. You and Severus have been dating about six months. You had met in your third year at Hogwarts while on the train at the start of the year. No other carts were open, and when you walked in, you were surprised to see a raven-haired boy with Slytherin robes sitting next to the window with his nose deep in a book. The Art of Potions, the book title read. He had already begun to read his textbook. The boy didn't even acknowledge you until you had asked if he fancied anything from the trolly. He declined your offer, and the two of you didn't speak until year four while you asked him a question in the library. There is where you had finally learned his name. "I have seen you in potions, and I was wondering if you'd be able to answer this for me," you had said, placing the book on the table in front of him. He didn't even glance up. "What is your name, by the way? Mine is (y/n)," you extended out your hand. "Sorry for being so rude, it is quite unlike me." "Quite unlike you? Highly doubt that," he had said, looking you up and down with a look of disgust, focusing in on your appearance. You had been instantly taken back. You had never been treated by someone with such disrespect so quickly. Swallowing your pride, you had turned around on your heel and continued off in the direction you had emerged from. While walking back, you heard the slightest whisper from the path behind you. "Severus Snape."
The memory plays in your head perfectly, as if it had happened yesterday. After that incident, you and Severus slowly became closer and closer. Starting with slight glances at each other and slowly developing to sneaking out after hours to talk to each other in the halls at night. You had both been lonely and needed the company. Although you had appreciated the beautiful friendship that was blossoming from the rude boy, you couldn't help but be jealous by not being the only Gryffindor Severus had spent his time with. The girl he was devoted to and helplessly in love with; Lily Evans. Over time, of course, that had changed. Severus and Lily had a falling out towards the end of the fourth year due to him lashing out and had begun to completely ignore each other. This being said, in most conversations with Severus, Lily became an untalked about subject. Just the mention of her name made him go mad. Once Sev had managed to turn back to himself, he began to fall for you, and you in no way could refuse to return the feelings. You definitely tried, but your will to keep your heart protected was weaker than your will to let the raven-haired boy be your love and for you to be his muse. The site in front of you made your heart stop, and your eyes begin to focus. Her arms were around Severus. Your Sev. The one she had given up long ago. Who was Lily to waltz back in and play with his heart once again; the heart he promised only would beat for you. Watching abundantly, you felt tears begin to dwell in your eyes. Why was he letting himself hold her? He wrapped his arms tighter around her as she nuzzled her nose into his neck. As if right on cue, Severus looked up. His dark eyes making his way to yours, widening when he realized who it was. Pulling away from Lily, Sev attempted to walk towards you, arm reaching forward to grab you before you left. But, it was too late, you had turned on your heel and walked at speed you hadn't even known you could go. Trying to getaway. Trying to get away from the one person you never wanted to run from, Severus. "(y/n)!" You knew you were dramatic, and you knew that you had to give him a chance to explain, but that didn't stop the feeling of betrayal in your gut. Not only were you mad at Sev, but Lily. She had been well aware that you and Severus had been dating. You were in the same bloody house! Tears down your cheeks didn't stop the fat lady from being an absolute nuisance. "What has the Slytherin done this time?" she said with great disgust while mentioning the house. "Caput Draconis" "You won't tell me? Probably because you know you-" "Caput Draconis!" you yell, not caring who hears. "Fine, fine. Enter, you dumb girl". Nearly four hours later, Sophia, your best friend, enters your dormitory. "Snape is out in the tower annoying the hell out of the Fat Lady trying to get in. Is something wrong," she explains. "Send him off," you respond. He knew better, and if he doesn't leave eventually, James and his friends will make their way out. Sev was smarter than to put himself in that position. Making your way to place Sevs sweater in a small trunk at the foot of your bed, you couldn't help but let a few tears fall. It is black, just like all of Sev's belongings. However, it has a little "s" on the sleeve. You had sown it there when you both started dating, and he had left it with you to keep you warm. You never gave it back, and he had never asked. Placing it in your trunk, you finally connected eyes with Sophia. "Send him off, please." The last thing you had seen that day was the back of Sophia's brown hair, walking out the door. The next morning you couldn't decide how to approach this issue between you and Sev. So, instead of handling it, you chose to skip breakfast instead. Although you know it isn't right to be so worked up over the encounter between Lily and Sev without an explanation, you just can't help it. Lily is the only girl that you have ever gotten jealous of, and quite frankly, you didn't know if it was because you thought Sev still loved her or if it was because it was the only other girl Sev had been close enough to share his thoughts with. Regardless, it hurt. You had decided to miss classes all day, you were far enough ahead that it wouldn't hurt in the slightest. As for dinner, you had desperately wanted to skip it and not go, but Sophia wouldn't take no for an answer. This resulted in being dragged towards the dinner hall with a stomach that was still not hungry. "(y/n)I don't know what happened, but the one thing I do know is that it isn't healthy for you to skip all your meals." Sophia had said matter of factly. You knew she was right, but you couldn't help the fullness you felt in your stomach when you felt upset. As of now, the only thing on your mind was how badly you didn't want to see Severus. It amazed you that you hadn't seen Lily and quite frankly, it passed through your mind an unpleasing amount that the reason being could be that she might be with Sev. Although you know he would never cheat, it did occur to you that he may leave you for her. That's ultimately what you were dreading, the reason that you hadn't brought yourself to face him. You weren't ready to say goodbye. Gathering into the dining hall, you quickly scanned the hall for the tallboy. You couldn't spot him, however, to your luck, Lily was a few seats down talking to some of her friends. At least they aren't together. Standing for a moment, you think about where to sit. Should I sit with my back towards him, or should I face him? Finally, you choose to sit facing that direction; you will at least know when he comes in. If he comes in. Nearly right on cue, Severus walks through the entryways, and takes a seat almost directly across from you in the Slytherin area, placing down his books while his eyes burn holes into your gaze. He looked like he hadn't slept in hours and as if he had been crying. Probably because of her. Breaking your gaze, you look down towards Lily, who is laughing with James Potter and his crew of upright clowns. That group demises Sev, why would she be with them after running to him? This doesn't click. Did Sev know? After having a realization that something strange was going on, that is when it became apparent; you needed to talk to him. Being in separate houses taught you guys many things, one is knowing when you need to talk. Nodding at Sev, you got out of your seat, grabbed your belongings, and quickly headed towards the door. Not long after, he appeared behind you. "(Y/n) I need to explain everything from yesterday. I promise it was not in any way malicious, and it was completely platonic-," you cut him off by placing a palm to his cheek. You couldn't help it. Even though you felt terrible, you were still upset. He comforted her so quickly, even after ignoring each other for so long. His love for her still shined through, even if Sev didn't admit it. "There is nothing to explain, Sev," you said. "I'm not mad, just a little surprised and hurt by the fact you took her in so easily." "It wasn't like that, she had been telling me about her family; things that have been happening. How could I not comfort her," he explained, looking into your eyes hopefully. "Well, that's quite not like you, is it? The reason you took her in so easily was because she is a sweet spot for you and always has been," you say, breaking the eye contact and looking down at the books in your hand. Trying to look anywhere but at him. "(y/n) that's no-," he attempted to say. "Sev, that's not what I wanted to converse about. Lily is still very close with James and his friends. I just wanted you to be aware that there may be an ulterior motive behind her throwing herself at you, be careful, Sev." With that, you turned on your heel and walked away, quickly trying to for away before you let the tears fall. You know you'll have to face him. You know you'll have to talk about it, but you aren't ready. However, that didn't mean Severus wasn't. He was never good at letting things play out on their own. Hot on your trail, Severus was behind you, and you knew you weren't going to have time to cope before facing this poisonous situation. - Yesterday was hell. Quite frankly, fuck Lily Evans. Walking back into my life as if it weren't better without her. I worked hard for (y/n), and she worked hard for me. We went through small battles, I lashed out once or twice, sometimes her hormones would get the best of her, but we usually would snap back in a day or two and head back to our usual routine as a couple. This, this was different. She won't even give me the chance to explain. Yesterday I had walked outside the common room and around the coroner to our usual spot. But, instead of (y/n), I found Lily. Quickly, I attempted to turn away and go on my way to fund her. But, she had been crying, and I couldn't help my curiosity. "What's wrong, Lily," I asked, frustrated she had taken my space. If (y/n) sees this, I am dead. She has this idea that Lily is the girl I love, which is absolute nonsense. I just want her to see that. Of course, I care for Lily, I don't want to see her dead, and I definitely did have a love for her in the past. However, it's the past. (Y/n) is my future. It shows in my Patronus. She is the person I ultimately care for, and I just wish she could understand that. Before I had registered what was going on, Lily ran to me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I was so uncomfortable, the only person I ever let my affection go towards was (y/n). This didn't feel right. "Lily, please. I understand something is wrong, but I don't feel comfortable with this." "Sev. I miss our friendship. I'm sorry for never giving you the chance to explain. Life has been so rough. My parents are arguing, Petunia won't tell me what's going on at home. I don't know what to do. And on top of all of that, I miss you," she said, nuzzling her nose towards my neck. I feel that I have never felt so strange. I hugged her back. As soon as I hugged her back, I realized we had been watched. There was a visible foot, yet the person the limb belonged to was hidden behind a wall. Soon after, the face came out of the dark, and I realized who it was. "(y/n)." Nothing had happened. I left Lily there, exactly where we had been. I know I hadn't done anything wrong, but that wasn't going to be an excellent justification with (y/n), and I needed to come up with something quickly. Before I lost her. "Please. One chance. Talk to me," I begged. She wasn't going to listen on her own. Reaching out, I grabbed her wrist and yanked her back towards me, quickly pushing her into a passing corner, against the wall. "Let me show you something," I pleaded. "Severus, I don't want to talk, I am exhausted." Ignoring her wishes, I showed her what I hoped would change her doubts. Yanking out my wand, I stared into her curious, teary eyes before pointing my wand out. "Expecto Patronum." A beautiful (y/p) goes through the air, and I have never seen quite anything like the stunning look in (y/n) eyes than the moment she recognized the beautiful creature.

Letters to my Parents - Monday 17 October 1994 - by Alinda
Monday 17 October 1994
Dear mom and dad,
I can tell you that there is no way anyone is ever going to control me by the Imperius Curse. Professor Moody put it on me four times during lessons to show others how to fight it. It was really weird, being under the Imperius Curse. It was like all my worries and thoughts floated away and left in place a vague, untraceable happiness. I wasn’t really aware anymore of the people around me and then Moody told me to jump on a desk. And I just thought that was stupid, why would I jump on a desk? There was no reason for it. So I kind of jumped and tried to stop from jumping at the same time and smashed headlong into the desk. I could feel it in my knees for the rest of that day.
And that was all fine and well, and I’m glad I can resist the curse. Draco is a bit jealous that I can do it. He didn’t manage at all, and Moody made him crawl over the floor like a ferret. I wanted to hurt Moody when he did that like it wasn’t bad enough that he’d turned Draco into a ferret for real once for no good reason. And that wasn’t even the worst of it all. After I could completely throw off the curse on his fourth attempt he looked at Draco and told him he would never be able to control me again. Draco just shook his head and pretended he didn’t hear but I was furious. So after class, I didn’t go with the others to get dinner but made my way down the dungeons to Professor Snape his classroom. He was still there putting away some potion bottles. I told him about Moody and how he keeps treating Draco as a criminal. Professor Snape premised me he would talk to Moody and even headmaster Dumbledore to make sure Moody keeps his prejudged feelings out of our class.
When I finally made it to diner I got informed about the news that the delegations from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang would arrive on the 15th of October. And arrive they did. The entire Great Hall had been decorated with enormous silk banners representing the Hogwarts Houses. And in the afternoon we all had to gather in the entrance hall with our cloaks on. Professor Snape ordered us into a line, with the first years in front and the seventh years in the back. Then we had to line up in front of the castle and wait. I leaned against Draco and Professor Snape ordered me to stand straight and to behave. Blaise laughed next to me and whispered to me that clearly, Professor Snape has lost his brain if he thought Draco and I could behave ourselves. I snickered and laced my fingers into Draco’s, just out of view of Professor Snape.
The delegation of Beauxbatons arrived in a massive horse-drawn carriage pulled by a dozen winged golden horses, soaring through the air. It landed in front of us and then the headmistress of Beauxbatons stepped out of it. She’s the larges woman I’ve ever seen. She’s the same size as Hagrid. When she had stepped down the ladder headmaster Dumbledore clapped and we all followed his example. Her students followed her. They looked like they were freezing in their light blue silk robes. None of them had a cloak and I felt sorry for them. Luckily they could all go inside quickly to warm up
I was more impressed by the Durmstrang group. They arrived in a ship that rose out of the water. Their headmaster is professor Karkaroff. Draco knows who he is. I’ll tell you about him just now. He has a goatee that finishes into a small curl. I think it looks ridiculous. But that was not the great part. Among the students of Durmstrang is a very special person, namely Victor Krum, the star Quidditch player from Bulgaria. And to our great pleasure, he sat down in Great Hall right next to our little group. Draco told him we’d seen him at the World Cup and that it is an honour to have him at our school. Krum was very kind and thanked Draco for his compliment. And then Greg said he’d love to see a Seeker game between me and Krum, but Krum kindly declined, saying something like he was only here to compete in the TriWizard tournament, and not to play Quidditch.
Once everyone was seated, Dumbledore gave a short speech welcoming our guest and then the feast started. We had some extra foreign dishes and the Durmstrang students explained to us what they were (at least the once they knew, none of us was tempted to try the France dishes, expect Draco who’d had them on a holiday to France and assured us they were delicious).
We’re also sure that one of the Beauxbatons girls is at least a tiny bit Veela because all the boys stare as she passes them. Draco finds it kind of funny, he said it’s a good way to find out who else is bent at this school since they won’t be affected by her. And that made me think that Millicent is probably bent too since she couldn’t stop her head from turning when the girl passed our table.
And then, after dinner was done, headmaster Dumbledore opened the TriWizard tournament. He explained the procedure and introduced Mr Crouch and Mr Bagman to us. They were the representatives from the Ministry that will be on the panel of judges. And then they brought in a casket which turned into a large, roughly hewn wooden cup when he tapped it three times with his wand. It was kind of unremarkable except for the fact that it was filled with dancing blue-white flames. Everyone who wants to be a Champion has to write down their name and school on a slip of parchment and drop it into the goblet. They’ve got till the night of the Halloween feast to do so because then the goblet will somehow choice the Champions.
When Karkaroff came to collect the Durmstrang students to go back to their ship for the night he froze when he saw me. Draco and I had just gotten up to leave and our hands were locked together. Karkaroff his eyes moved from my scar quickly to my hand. Then he shook his head and left without saying a word, the Durmstrang students hurrying to follow him. Draco told me that night that Karkaroff uses to be friends with his father, way back when Draco was just a baby. Karkaroff has been to Azkaban for a short time just after the Wizarding War that killed both of you. Draco has no idea why he was released so quickly since most of the Death Eaters arrested back then are still locked up.
This weekend we’ve spent a lot of time on guessing who will become the Champion for Hogwarts. I’ve heard that Cedric, the captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team is going to try for champion. Just like Adrian and Miles, our Quidditch teammates. But I think if it’s going to be a Slytherin champion it will be Warrington. He’s in seventh year, handsome and I think he has pretty good grades in all his classes. Professor Snape is fond of him and that is saying something.
Oh and it was fun to see Fred and George Weasley try to get passed the age line that headmaster Dumbledore had placed around the goblet. They’d taken ageing potion and stepped over the line, only to be hurled out of the circle. Once they were back on the floor they both sprouted identical long white beards. Everyone in the Hall was laughing, even Fred and George.
Next to all the TriWizard stuff and stupid professor Moody, I’ve just been really busy with the massive amount of homework we’ve been getting. I wanted to cheat on my moon chart for Divination, but Draco wouldn’t let me. He made me do all the work and made sure I understood all the calculations. The predictions were really boring and I’m sure I would have gotten a better mark if I’d handed in a chart filled with catastrophes and near-death experiences. But that aside, we do spend a lot of time in the library with our friends doing homework. Our group is slowly growing. It is so different from first year where it was just me and Hermione. Now it’s Blaise, Luna, Greg, Daphne, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Seamus, Dean and sometimes Millicent. It’s fun to study together and help each other. And when we’re studying, Hermione is less tempted to bring up S.P.E.W. and her fight against house-elf enslavement. And that’s a good thing. It’s like school and her S.P.E.W. is the only thing she’s willing to make time for at the moment. And complaining that Ron seems to be head over heels about this Veela girl from Beauxbatons. Blaise told her to take matters into her own hand and just ask Ron out on a date or something. But Hermione is refusing to take the first step.
Draco and I also visited Hagrid this weekend. He was all dressed up and even tried to tame his hair. Draco joked later that maybe I should go over more often and maybe try to braid Hagrid’s hair into something decent. I told him my braiding skills were only for him and that resulted in a nice kissing match. But back to Hagrid. The Skrewts had started to kill each other and for a moment Draco was hoping we’d be done with them. But Hagrid had put them in separate boxes, so there still like twenty of them. Hagrid made us some lunch and we had a good time catching up with him. When we left his cabin, Madame Maxime (the headmistress of Beauxbatons) passed by and Hagrid was blushing. He looked at her like he looked at his baby dragon and it’s clear that he’s smitten.
Well, that all for now. I’m going to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. Got lots of schoolwork to do again tomorrow. I’ll let you know who will become Hogwarts Champion when I write to you again.
Love you,
Harry James Potter.

A Werewolf Telling
Remus entrance in Hogwarts after more of a decade was... awkward to say the least. Dumbledore requested him to become a DADA teacher 3 months ago. Seeing him after all that had happened... well, let's say it wasn't the best display of all time. Not longer a teenager nor a young whole and happy man, it was too much for Dumbledore and for Remus to bear. Too many memories, too many tears and desperate cries, too many broken dreams... a broken heart too. The young man was now a man but there was so many things missing in him. The sparkle once in his eyes, that sparkle only present in company of his friends... in company of-
Dumbledore stopped himself there. He, better than any other could understand the pain Remus felt. Losing not only his friends, his family, but also losing the love of a man he knew... he thought he knew.
After hours of quite intense discussion, Remus accepted. He managed to say yes because Dumbledore promised (again) to do everything in his power to help him with his transformations. Plus, Severus Snape was now a Potions teacher and he could manage to prepare him Wolfbane Potion (under Dumbledore's orders, of course) so... that was an improvement Remus couldn't deny.
***
The day he arrived at King's Cross and saw the scarlet train, he felt like an eleven year old all over again. He swallowed hard because those memories always came along with other three kids in it. A bespectacled boy with messy hair, another chubby and witty one and-
Remus sighed. After all these years, after all the hurt and pain. The hate. His heart still beat like a fucking drum at the mere thought of that kid with mischievous grey eyes and a smirk worth to make his knees go weak. He didn't want to think, not in those kids, not in what happened 13 years ago, not in anything.
However, he hadn't expected what came after he fell asleep in the compartment he choose for his ride. Harry. James and Lilly's Harry. His "nephew", there with other two friends. The last time he saw him was on James' birthday. He was still wearing diapers. Harry, this 13 year old Harry, was so much like his father. The same messy hair, complexions and even the height. Now, his eyes were another thing. Lily's eyes. But not only that, he inherited his mom's eye shape and fierce gaze, the one that leaves no room for discussion.
It felt like years of repressed emotions melt away as soon as Harry laid his eyes on him. He no longer called him 'ncle Mo'oy, but Professor Lupin. Remus hoped a tiny part of Harry could recognize him but he was happy to be part of his life again.
***
Once he entered the castle and establish himself in his new dorm, he went downstairs to the Great Hall. He took no more than two steps down, when a voice behind him stopped him in his tracks
'Remus?'
He froze. And very slowly he turned around. There were already tears in his eyes.
'Poppy?'
The medi-witch whimpered and approached to him till there was only her arms around him. Remus was shocked and speechless.
'I thought I'll never see you again' she sobbed in his chest 'I was worried sick about you and what might had happened to you after-'
Remus caught off her mumbling and embrace the other woman tightly against him. Madam Pomfrey was probably the only other person who treated him like a son while in school. He never stopped himself to think how much he missed her until that moment.
'Oh, dear' Poppy mumbled taking a step back and scanning the werewolf 'look at you'. She gently placed a hand in Remus' cheek and smiled softly 'you promised to contact me... and you didn't, you silly boy'
Remus felt the heat of his cheeks grow a little after those words. He wanted to say he was no longer a boy, that he did pretty well all these years. But he knew he couldn't lie to her (he suck at lying too).
'I know, I'm sorry. I'm here now, am I?'
Pomfrey's gave a disapproving look and quickly smiled back.
'Why don't we go to dinner now, dear?'
***
'Sirius Black has escaped from Askaban' Dumbledore said in a usual neutral voice. Remus knew quite well the meaning behind those words.
'Why should I care?'
'I just thought you should know' the headmaster narrowed his eyes just a slightly bit. Remus wouldn't fall for it.
'I'm sorry, Professor, but I suppose the only concern we all should have right now is how we can protect the students and-'
'You think he might want to break into the school?'
'I- I'm not... I just-' Remus passed a hand through his hair and sighed in frustration 'Maybe he'll come after Harry'
Both men stayed in silence for what felt like an eternity.
'We'll take the precautions needed' said Dumbledore at least.
Remus couldn't reply, not even if he wanted to.
***
'Spotted in Hosgmeade'
Remus read the sentence over and over again. He was close, so close... and so far away.
'Fuck' the tears were coming. Why now? What did he wanted? Harry? Him? Everyone to just die? He threw the paper away and screamed in the isolated dorm.
'No, no, no, nO, NO, NO, FUCK NO'
His heart ached; he repeated to himself that he hated Black, that his very existence was a waste of space, that he didn't need him in his life. He didn't need those fucking gorgeous eyes or that stupid smirk. He definitely didn't love him. Not anymore. Not since he was 21.
'...fuck’
And Remus laughed. A weak and dull laugh. He was alone in that room, no other than him. He could lie to himself all the wanted but he knew that if that man walked through that same door at that same moment... he'll throw himself in the flames of hell for a second with Sirius. And he hated himself for that.
***
'He broke into school. He was here, for Merlin's sake!' Remus exploded.
Minerva Mcgonagall and Madam Pomfrey shared a concern look. Remus Lupin wasn't the kind of person who would... break down. But knowing the past Sirius and Remus shared so many years ago...
'Remus Lupin, you need to calm down now' Mcgonagall said with a sharp command. That was not the way to deal with this situation.
He stopped passing around the empty classroom and looked at the two women.
'Remus?' Pomfrey tried with a less aggressive approach 'Remus, dear, I know this must be difficult for you...'
'Difficult?' Snapped Remus 'Just difficult? Yeah, because for the past 13 years my life has been a fucking dream'
'Remus!' Mcgonagall's voice echoed all through the classroom to Remus' core 'There's no need for such... colorful... language' she cleared her throat in a attempt to recompose herself 'We are aware that your life has not been that simple' Remus snorted lowly but Mcgonagall ignored it 'Now, is not the time for meltdowns. We must take responsibility over our students and protect each one of them' she saw how Remus' was starting to fidge again and sighed 'Remus, we can't change the past not the horrible things that happened. However, we can improve our future and make the best out of it. You have the power to keep looking forward or getting stuck in your past'
Remus hadn't notice she approached to him until he felt a gentle hand over his shoulder.
Our decisions define us. Well, that's some fucked up philosophy to be honest.
***
That night he couldn't sleep at all. His mind kept bringing him memories about simpler times. Times full of color and joy. Despite living in such a dark time, he got his friends and lover by his side. They really thought they'd be able to make it. How innocent one can be at such a young age. That was until the bad seed was planted. Everything went downhill after that. The simpler times were gone, as well as the trust and confidence. He couldn't blame them for not trusting him (he wouldn't either). Because it had been Sirius after all.
Remus' heart skipped a beat at the thought of him.
'Really? After all these years...' he whispered to himself.
***
It hadn't been him. It hadn't been him, it had been Peter. Fucking Pettigrew.
Sirius laid in the floor beneath him looking desperate and somehow relieved Remus figured it out. He wanted to cry and laugh and curse and fucking scream but now it wasn't the time. The intensity of Sirius grey eyes, ranking him from head to toe was burning him alive.
And in that moment, Remus decided that yeah, if he already scorched quite a bit for Sirius in his youth, he'll fucking die in flames again for him.

ALL RIGHT!! Hey, there I'm Julie. So, I wanna say a couple of things now that I have your attention:
First of all, this is my first time posting something I write on my own so you probably feel the stress too,huh and to make things worse English isn't even my first language *finger guns* What I'm trying to say is sorry if there're mistakes and all that because this whole situation gave me a lot of anxiety lol
Second, imma wolfstar trash, bitch. Lol Alright, so this whole idea started as some weird day dream I had about Remus and Madam Pomfrey (completely inspired btw by @captofthesswolfstar and her 💖A-MA-ZING💖 fic WWI) and well, let's say I carried away. I love to think how Remus must had felt in his return to Hogwarts and also dealing with Sirius all over again. He's a chill dude but Mcgonagall and Pomfrey know him very well and I know he trusted them enough to y'know break down.
Third, I wanna give a H U G E thank you to my friend @wavesofjoyy for helping me out and correcting this mess. You're fucking awesome I love you.
Fourth and hopefully lastly, I really hoped you enjoyed this little thing I made. If everything goes well, I might share other things related to wolfstar, who knows? Thanks in advance everyone💕
Julie's out *drops mic*

Follower Ficmas: Day 12
For @chiknthugget
Preferred Character: Sirius Black
Prompt: Soulmate au where they have dark markings on their forearm. Maybe something like Sirius is irritated about his markings being books
When you were old enough to become aware of the soulmate marks, you were intrigued. You’d asked your mom about the paw print markings that ran along your left forearm.
With a soft smile, your mom replied, “Skayler,” she ruffled your brown hair and picked you up to sit you on her lap, “these are the marks of your soulmate. They’re a hint as to who the person could be, how they behave, how the look, etc.”
At seven years old, you were confused, “Soooo...is my soulmate a dog or something?”
Your mom laughed, “Probably not. Maybe they like dogs or have a playful attitude like one.”
Your laughter joined your mother’s, realizing how silly you were, “Oh! That makes sense!”
From that moment on, you found solace in your soulmate markings. The thought that you had a person out there that could be your best friend and love forever, well, it was exciting. You had become so intrigued with the idea of soulmates and how they worked, that you found yourself drowning in books all about them.
______________________________________
Sirius couldn’t believe how stupid his soulmate markings were. Books? Really? You were probably a big nerd! How could he possibly be a soulmate to a nerd?! He didn’t understand it! Even without knowing you, he hated you. Because of you, he was made fun of as a kid.
When he entered Hogwarts, he covered up his markings as much as he could, not wanting to be the laughing stock that he was in his younger years. He strived to never feel that humiliated again. So he turned things around. Acted like he was best, flirted with girls, broke their hearts, and moved on; played pranks on innocent victims. It was thrilling. For years, he had never felt that low and weak like he used to when he was young. That is, until you fell victim to one of his pranks.
James and Sirius had set up a bucket of lake water above the door to the potions classroom. They both knew that Severus Snape liked to spend his time there. They hoped to catch him in a surprise attack, except that’s not what happened at all.
Snape had indeed come into the potions classroom, but behind you, his fellow Slytherin classmate.
You let out a shriek as you stood frozen, soaked to the bone in lake water, “Who. Did. This?!”
James and Sirius ran up from their hiding spot in horror, “Merlin! We’re so sorry! This wasn’t meant for you! It was for-” Sirius stopped mid-apology, a stinging sensation spread throughout his left arm. He quickly pushed up his sleeve to reveal his soulmate markings to glow.
You hissed as well, a pain shooting through your own left arm. You, too, pushed up your sleeve to reveal your glowing markings. You looked up and met grey eyes, “You?”
“You?” He mumbled in disbelief.
Snape spoke up, “Sirius Black is your soulmate?”
“My soulmate is a no good, bookwork Slytherin?”
You couldn’t help but scoff, “Oh please! Don’t act like you’re such a saint, Black! You go around the school bullying others and breaking hearts!”
“Better than being in a house that’ll turn you evil!” you both glared at each other, fire and hate filling your eyes. This wasn’t how you were supposed to meet your soulmate. It was supposed to be happy and loving. Not..messy and hateful.
“Merlin! What happened here?!” Professor Slughorn exclaimed in surprise.
You looked down in embarrassment, “Just had a bit of an accident, Professor.” with a wave of your wand, the water was gone. You looked up to your head of House, “May I go change into new robes?”
He nodded, “Yes, of course, Skayler. But be quick! Today’s lesson will tickle your fancy, I’m sure!” You nodded and gave a dark glare to Sirius before turning on your heel to head to the Slytherin common rooms to change.
_____________________________________
Throughout the Potions lesson, you as well as Sirius was distracted. Severus had to keep a special eye on you to make sure that you wouldn’t mess anything up with the potion you both were working on.
James, surprisingly, was doing all the work and was pretty decent at it. He was also a bit annoyed that his best mate had left him to do all the work, “Pads, c’mon! We’re halfway there and class is nearly over! Stop worrying about her.”
Sirius sighed as he worked on cutting the mandrake root in front of him, “But she’s my soulmate, James. There has to be a good reason we were paired together.”
“I thought you wanted nothing to do with her since she was sort of the reason you got bullied back then. Not to mention that she’s a Slytherin and friends with Snape.”
Sirius shrugged, “She’s my soulmate. I can’t live without her. I mean, I can, I’ve read that some people have, but their lives aren’t very..fulfilling.”
“So what? Are you going to give her a chance?”
His eyes moved from the mandrake root to you across the room, “I think I should.”
____________________________________
You and Severus walked out of class, happy with yourselves that you got full marks on your potion. Despite that, you were apologizing for not being as concentrated when Sirius ran up to you.
“Hey! Wait! Skayler!”
You stopped walking, seeing Severus give you a questioning gaze. You nodded, allowing him to continue without you as you turned to face Sirius. You scowled at him, “What? You clearly don’t want anything to do with me.”
He held up his hands defensively and shook his head, “I’m sorry. We started off on the wrong foot. I said some hurtful things because I was in shock, but that’s no excuse. I’m sure there’s a good reason why we were matched together and...and I’d like to find that out.”
“All my life, I thought I would meet my soulmate in some joyous, romantic way.”
“I don’t doubt that and, again, I’m sorry.”
“We’re made to be together for some reason...” you mumbled hesitantly.
“So are we going to give this a chance?” Sirius asked hopefully.
You shrugged, “We don’t really have a choice, do we?” you said with a shy smile.
Sirius grinned, “No. I suppose not.”

Chapter 5: Some things are more than what meets the eyeNotes:
"We do not know what things look like. We know what things are like. It must be a very limiting thing, this seeing.” — Madeleine L'Engle
Days turned to weeks, and soon into months. Tonks had already gotten used to the rhythm of a Hogwarts student and she soon discovered that she wasn’t such bad student as she had anticipated, she wasn’t the first of her year, but she was among the top ones, and that gave her a small pinch of pride. If only her social skill could be improved as easily. After a month living among them, she was finally comfortable enough to chat with the other Hufflepuff girls, but the interaction was still a little too cordial; something that didn’t pass unnoticed by her dear cousin. Tonks seemed to have a strange standards when it came to choosing her friends. She had easily accepted Sirius “family” love, and she befriended Lupin almost instantly; with James she’d been a little bit wary at the beginning, but she eventually seemed to trust the boy with glasses. With Peter, she was still a little tense, as Sirius liked to note. Against all odds, Tonks befriended both Lily and Snape. The first one had been more welcoming to the girl than the later. It was more than obvious that Snape would have prefered her to leave him alone. “Seeeeeeveeeeruuuuus….” Tonks fuzzed with a -purposely- annoying voice that made Lily giggle when the boy had glared at the younger girl horrified. “What?” “Help me with this. You are good in potions….” “Leave me alone…” Snape groaned “Go tell your useless cousin…” “Sirius sucks at potions! You said it yourself!” “Then Lupin. He’s the brain in there, is he not?” “He’s busy….” Tonks pouted “Come on Severus….heeeeelp meeeee….” “No…” “Pleaaase...please...please...please...” “Agh...shut up. I’m trying to focus….” “Come on…” “No…” “Help me Severus, you’re my only hopee….” Lily giggled. She was having too much fun seeing how Tonks purposely annoying Snape and how the boy pretended to be annoyed. “Seriously...don’t you have better things to do? Can’t you go hang out with your Hufflepuff mates or something?” “That’s not fun at al. I like to hang out with you and Lily…” Tonks replied winking at Lily “Pleaaase...just help me…..” “Agh fine...let me see that.” Snape took the parchment from her and his dark eyes scanned the letters on it carefully. The pale boy raced and eye-brow and shook his head irrirtated. “It’s three times counter clockwise, and then two clockwise before you add the convallaria leaves. Otherwise it’d turn red instead of light purple…” “Ah...really? Severus...you’re a genius…” Snape rolled his eyes and turned back to his own book. “I’m not a genius...it’s common sense. Use your brain…” he mumbled. Tonks and Lily exchanged looks and giggled. “Oh no...there he comes…” Lily groaned “Potter…” “James?” Tonks said tilting her head. “Yes, he’s playing clown with Black again. Annoying…” “They can be a little goofy at times, but they’re good. It’s like Severus, he can be a grumpy pot, but deep inside he’s just a little sweetheart…” “I’m not…” “Hahaha, she might be right on that, Severus. You’re a kind soul hiding an annoyed face...” “Lily, don’t …” Snape begged. Lily and Tonks laughed again. The hooded girl turned to where Sirius and James were busy putting up a show of paper birds that flew in circles around their heads and her gaze met Lupin's, who was looking with a mixture of amusement and disapproval at his friends. Tonks smiled and waved at him enthusiastically. Perhaps a little to enthusiastically that she accidentally knocked over a pile of books that she had by her side with a loud thud. “For Merlin’s sake, Nymphadora!” Snape glared at her. “Don’t call me Nymphadora! It’s Tonks, plain and simple Tonks!” “I don’t know why you don’t like your name…”Lily asked “it is such a pretty name…” “Lily is a pretty name, Nymphadora is just ridiculous…” Tonks said picking up the books. “No, it isn’t…” a new voice muttered close to her. To her surprise, Lupin had sneaked into the seat next to her and was smiling warmly at her. “Hey, Evans...Snape” he greeted the pair. Lily replied with a smile and Snape only nodded his head at him “I find your name really nice and fitting…” “Remus...you can’t be serious. How is Nymphadora fitting at all?” “Why not?” “First...the name is just...uff; second...it’s all...girly, lady, elegant...as far as I’m aware….I don’t have any of those attributes…” “You got that right…” Snape snorted. “So no… Tonks suits me better…” “If you say so…”Lily chuckled “I still think, Nymphadora is a cute name…” “Ah...you could be my mum’s best friend then…”Tonks said dropping her head on the table with a loud thud “Let’s not talk about my name, please.” “As you wish, because I’m leaving now…” Snape said snapping his book close. “Yes, I should go, too. I promised Mirtha that I’d help her study Charms.” Lily said. “Have fun with that, Lily…” Tonks smiled “Severuuuus...don’t miss me too much!” “Who’s going to miss you, noisy girl?!” Tonks broke into a laugh. She just enjoyed teasing Snape, because she knew that despite his bitter remarks and his constant glares, Snape actually accepted her and considered her his friend. “You know...Sirius still can’t believe you’re Snape’s friend…” Lupin chuckled. “Oh, he’s being silly. Guess the Black genes still get him at times…” Tonks replied turning her head to Lupin “Prejudice...I mean. Severus is a nice boy...you just need to know him.” “I’m not saying anything…” Lupin chuckled “I don’t have anything against him, to be honest. It seems the rivalry is between him and James…” “Let me guess...Lily?” “Too obvious?” “A little, but James is silly. How does he expect Lily to like him if he keeps bullying her best friend?” “I don’t think James thinks so much into it…” “Are all boys that silly?” “I guess we can be…” “Oh, not you. I’m sure you’re the exception of the rule there…” Lupin smiled and shook his head tiredly. Tonks raised her head from the table and looked at him with a frown. Her dark eyes staring into his green ones. “You’re a little pale…” she said “Are you feeling alright?” He wasn't’t. Full moon was in three days and he was starting to feel its effects on his body, but Tonks didn’t know it, and he didn’t want to tell her if he could help it. “Oh, I’m alright. I’ve been putting some overnights...that’s all…” he said rubbing the back of his head. Tonks stared at him for a minutes, and he could tell, by her look, that she wasn’t buying his excuse. She was too smart for her own good. “Hey, are you busy?” “Now? No, why?” “I need to get this back to the library. I was wondering if you’d like to come.” “Sure. I don’t think Sirius and James are missing me now, anyway…” “Nah, they’re too busy being themselves…” she laughed picking up the books. The pair left the hall and walked to the library engulfed in a random mudane chat. They talked about the classes, the teachers and the mischief they had done recently.Tonks loved her little chats with Lupin, because she felt so relaxed when he was close, and Lupin loved his brief minutes with Tonks, because it made him feel happy. Lupin helped her put back the books and eventually, they ended up in the Muggle Literature section. It was one of the less frequented sections, and so it was usually deadly empty. “Ah...they don’t know what they’re missing…” Tonks chuckled “Some of these are really nice…” “You’ve read them?” “My dad has them in his library. I’ve read some…” “Me too…” “Oh, you like Muggle Books?” “Mmmm you could say so…” Lupin answered “My mother is muggle, so we have some of these at home too…” “Oh, well. Look at that, something more that we have in common…” she chuckled “ Oh...Fairytales by the Grimm Brothers. My dad used to read me those when I was a kid. I could never understand why the wolf was always the bad guy…” “It’s not the wolf. That’s just the Muggles misinterpreting the...role of a werewolf…” Lupin replied. The last bit had come out a little bitter than he’d intended. “Wolves...werewolves…” she replied as if it didn’t matter, her hand caressing the books in the shelves “What’s wrong with that? Werewolves are not any less people…” Lupin seemed confused at her words. Had he heard correctly? “Werewolves are monsters….dangerous and horrible monsters…” he said automatically and he saw Tonks turn to him with an irritated frown. “Oh, and how would you know this? Because it is written on books? Or because that’s why everyone says?” she replied firmly “Werewolves are still people 29 days in a month, that makes them human 348 days in a year. Just because they turn into a wolf once a month doesn’t make them monsters. The person chooses whether to be good or not, that’s not different from being normal. I mean...I’m sure there are werewolves out there that are 100 times more decent people than some wizards out there…” Lupin was left speechless. That wasn’t what he had expected to hear about werewolves. With the exception of his friends, whenever the subject of Werewolves came into conversation, the immediate response was either fear or hate; and there he was, standing in front of an 11 years old who defended werelwolves with a reasoning that could slap at any older wizard. “You don’t know any werewolves, that’s what you’re saying that.” “And do you know any?” Lupin didn’t answer. He was afraid of how she’d react if he told her the truth, but Tonks took his silence as a no. “See? Maybe if people stopped for a bit and tried to know them, understand them, they’d see that they aren’t the demons they think they are…” “Werewolves are dangerous…” “They are, as any person is.” Tonks agreed “A werewolf might bite...yes, because he is a wolf. It’s their instinct to prey, to eat...to survive. Just like anyother animal. It isn’t a crime to act according your nature; but put it like this… If the werewolf is a good person when he or she isn’t a wolf, and then dangerous when he turns just because he follows its instinct, can you really judging him? Look at that arse of Boreas, he’s a wizard...and he hurts people just because of the fun of it. Why isn’t he judge the same way? There’s a keyword there, Remus… Choosing.” Lupin didn’t know what to say. Usually he could come up with any statement that would make a werewolf, make himself, look like a monster, but as he stood there watching Tonks walking between the shelves he realized that maybe, just maybe, she had a point there. “Ah...there it is…” Tonks voice interrupted his thoughts, as the girl pulled out a book from the shelf with a smile “I feel like reading this again…” Lupin glanced at the book on her hands. The cover was brown with golden letters printed on it: Whitefang by Jack London. Their talk then switched to a lighter subject as they headed back to the Hall, but Lupin was still thoughtful; the words that the young witch had told him in the library kept replaying in his mind and later that day when he’d casually commented them with his friends, their reaction had left him in shock. “HA, I knew she’d be a werewolf lover…” Sirius laughed “Don’t ask me how. I just did…” “But isn’t that good, Moony…” James said with a smile “You now know that she wouldn’t care if she knew about your furry little problem…” “That’s not the point…” Lupin said shaking his head “That line of thinking could get her killed. Werewolves are dangerous!” “And she said it. She knows they’re are, but she also knows it isn’t their fault…” James reasoned “You’re sabotaging yourself, Moony.” “She got mad at you for bad mouthing werewolves…” Sirius laughed “I should have seen that. If only she knew she was talking to one…” “But why isn’t she afraid of werewolves?” Peter asked “I mean normal people are scared…” “Wormtail...would you stop calling my cousin a freak, for Merlin’s sake?” “He’s right…” Lupin said shaking his head “ She should, and yet she isn’t. You three were scared at the beginning…” “Maybe her parents taught her not to be scared?” James suggested. “Unlikely. You know what how wizards see werewolves.” “Then maybe she’s reckless…” Peter suggested. “Or maybe...she has a brain…” Sirius said annoyed “Moony, don’t be so dramatic. This is a good thing. Means you have another friend that won’t abandon you for what you are...so I said you shut it, and enjoy it.”
Lupin knew that there was no point trying to reason with Sirius when the boy used that tone and for the first time, he thought he’d follow his friend’s advice.
***
It was a nice night. That’s what Tonks thought when she sneaked through the main gates and walked to the school grounds. She’d always have troubles to sleep during the nights of full moon. It wasn’t that she wasn’t sleepy, but more like there was something roaming her head, a ghost worry that wouldn’t let her sleep at all. When she was younger, she would sit on her bed and stare at the moon quietly from her window; as she grew older, she realized that her sneaky night stroll helped her feel more calm. The night was warm, but the breeze kept her cool as she made her way to lake. The surface was calm and quiet; so stiff that the it almost looked like a black mirror. The view sent her a sense of deja vu once again. She had gotten used to them as she grew older, she’d casually get one every now and then when she was at home, but ever since she had come to Hogwarts, that sense of deja vu had become more and more common. “Maybe I studied here in a past life…” she giggled to herself thinking of what her dad would say if she told him. She had borrowed a couple books from the library out of curiosity, but after reading them through, she felt like some of the things they mentioned didn’t match her. Maybe her dad’s hypothesis about her past life was just a silly invention to make her laugh after all. She should have known better. Tonks strolled past the lake and made her way to Hagrid’s cabin. She knew there were Lumin fairies in the forest. Her dad told her he used to take her mum to watch them on their romantic secret dates; perhaps with some luck she would be able to see some today. She reached the edge of the forest in once piece. She had almost tripped with a large root that laid well hidden in the shadows. Maybe walking in the dark wasn’t the brightest idea, considering her innate gift of accidents, but she didn’t want to catch Filch’s attention by casting a light. “Maybe he’d think it was a will o’wisp “she chuckled “but no, the moon should be enough.” Tonks found a big boulder and sat on it staring into the darkness of the forest. She probably looked like a fool, but then again, nobody would see her, so who cared? Suddenly a soft crack made her jump and she looked into the shadows in front of her. A pair of amber eyes that seemed to glow in the dark was staring at her and she could hear a low growl. It wasn’t a threatening growl, but more like a warning growl. The kind of growl a dog would make when he wanted to be left alone. It was too dark for her too see well who the owner of the amber eyes was, and it seemed that it didn’t want to let itself be seen anyway.. “Wotcher…” she said softly. Some people would say it was stupid to talk to an animal, but her grandmother always told her that contrary to common beliefs, animals did understand and that was why she always baby talked her scottish terrier whenever Tonks was on a visit. “I mean you no harm…” she said softly and the answer was once more a soft growl “I’m jus here hoping to see some Lumin Fairies. Don’t worry, I don’t intend to invade your territory…” Silence. It wasn’t like she had expected an answer. It was a dog for Merlin’s sake, dogs couldn’t talk! “I always get a insomniac on full moons. It’s silly and I just can’t explain it, but it’s like ...I’m too restless to sleep. It’s weird because I don’t even know what’s worrying me...you see? So I have the habit of taking strolls on nights of full moon…” There wasn’t a growl this time, and if it wasn’t for the bright golden eyes that wee staring at her, she would have thought the dog had long left. “You can’t sleep either?” she asked softly “Well, I wouldn’t blame you. It’s such a beautiful night. Do you live here?” Tonks chuckled. She really was stupid if she thought the dog would answer her. “Oh, yeah...silly me. It’s not like you could answer me…” she laughed “So...if it doesn’t bother you, I’d do the talking…” There was no growl, so she took that as a good sign. “My name is Nymphadora Tonks, but I prefer to be called Tonks; just Tonks. My mum, however, loves to call me Nymphadora….” she said rolling her eyes “and she says she won’t call her daughter by her last name. My dad agrees to that. He says it’d be too hard to know which Tonks you’re addressing, but my dad doesn’t call me Nymphadora. He calls me Dora, which I think is okay? It isn’t as flashy as Nymphadora. My parents are wizards. My mum was once from a.. Very important family or something like that, but she was disowned after she ran away to marry my dad. You see, my dad is a muggle born….not sure if you’ll know what that is, but the point is...my mum’s family didn’t like him. They didn’t think he was worthy enough for my mum, of course my mum thought otherwise. So my parents ran away and got married, and they had me…” She said the last part proudly. “But because of my mum’s background, I didn’t get much friends when I was younger. From one side, the ones that were on my grandparents side saw us as traitors and deserving of punishment; and the ones that weren’t...well, they were intimidated enough to not want to have anything to do with me and my family. I know what you’re thinking, if my dad was a muggle, then why I didn’t I look for friends on my muggle side? Well, I just couldn’t….” Tonks pulled down her hood revealing her hair. It was silvery white, waist long and straight today. “I’m a Metamorphmagus. I was born one...so I can change my appearance at will, like ...this…” She focused a little and her hair began to turn black. It looked as if someone had dropped a vial of ink over her head. “Dad says it is a very rare gift, unfortunately, I don’t know how to control it well, yet. So sometimes, I change by accident. You can’t do that in front of muggles! They don’t even know that magic exist! Professor McGonagall, she’s a nice lady is teaching me how to control it. It’s helping, but I still can’t control it….at least not when it comes with my hair. I think I can manage my face. That’s why I use the hoodie…” she said covering her head again “I don’t want the other kids finding out and calling me a freak along the usual blood traitor insults. I don’t mind. It’s not that it hurts me, because I know they’re wrong, but well...I just want to have some peace and quiet, if you know what I mean. THe teachers know, so they don’t mind me wearing the hood. It’s great…” There wasn’t a growl this time, but she saw the amber eyes going lower. The dog had decided to lay down. Well, at least it wasn’t bored about her story. “I haven’t made too many friends in here. I don’t know, I just feel like I can’t trust them; but not everyone. I have made some real friends too, even if there are just a small bunch. There’s my long lost cousin, his name is Sirius. He’s a dork, but I think I can accept hims as family….that’s all I need to tell you and there are his friends. James is...nice, I guess. I just think we don’t connect that well...if you know what I mean...and Remus, he’s great. I really like him, it’s like we knew each from long before we met ...it’s silly, isn’t it? And then there’s Peter...I don’t know, I don’t think we get along. I’m sure he doesn’t like me, and I am not sure how I feel about him. It’s like I have this...unreasonable sense of distrust about him…” The golden eyes had raised once more and Tonks could almost picture the dog’s heat tilting sideways. “I know it is ridiculous. He hasn’t done anything that should make me feel like that…” Tonks shrugged “ Oh there’s also Lily. I think I was a little wary at first, but she’s really nice...and she’s become a good friend and of course there’s Severus. He’s an interesting boy. He’s really kind and a big softie, but he wouldn’t admit it...he prefers to play the bad guy part before admitting that he’s done something good. For example, he always complains about me being noisy, or stupid and ridiculously clumsy, but he always helps me with homework, and seats with me on lunch and dinner, and I’m sure he worries when I trip…” Tonks giggled. “Sirius and James doesn’t like him, but well, that’s fine for Severus. He doesn’t like them either. Maybe it is because they’re to proud...if they actually tried...I believe they’d would be good friends.” Tonks let out a sigh and looked at the sky. The moon was high in the sky sprinkled with stars. It was a view that you wouldn’t see in the city, and she felt lucky to be seeing it now. “The moon is pretty, isn’t it?” The answer to her question was merely a soft growl. She looked back at the amber eyes and smiled at them. “Thank you for your company. I think I better get back, before Filch catches me. Maybe we will meet again…” Tonks jumped on her feet and waved at the dog one last time before walking back to the castle. The pair of golden eyes stared at her back until she was no longer seen.

TLTNL- THE UNBREAKABLE VOW
"What's the point of having friends if you can't take your problems out on them?" Sirius still didn't seem to get her problem. "Harry did it all last year," Harry looked properly shamefaced for that being brought up again, "Ron was just returning a bit of the favor."
"This isn't about Harry having a temper! Ron was being horrid to everyone around him, and for what? He could have asked out Hermione ages ago if that was his problem."
The other three had only watched them bicker about this the past five minutes only to get it out now. Harry'd had enough arguing in his life though, and requested, "I'm sure if you ever meet the two, you will happily tell them what idiots they were about it all. For now though, can we continue," and he pointedly gave the book to Remus.
The two graciously agreed, they weren't changing each others minds on the maturity of those who were once sixteen.
Snow was swirling against the icy windows once more; Christmas was approaching fast. Hagrid had already singlehandedly delivered the usual twelve Christmas trees to the Great Hall; garlands of holly and tinsel had been twisted around the banisters of the stairs; everlasting candles glowed from inside the helmets of suits of armor and great bunches of mistletoe had been hung at intervals along the corridors.
"Which all of the students were completely mature about, I'm sure," Remus snorted.
Sirius caught quite the roguish look in remembrance of practicing, and perfecting, every type of kissing available in one night as a challenge under each. It had been his favorite use of the cloak by far.
Large groups of girls tended to converge underneath the mistletoe bunches every time Harry went past, which caused blockages in the corridors; fortunately, however, Harry's frequent nighttime wanderings had given him an unusually good knowledge of the castle's secret passageways,
James clucked his tongue, thinking of the trips his son had made and convinced there were other students who had done even more, and not even the Marauders. He wished his son would indulge in this more for fun or not so wholesome things, rather than the other life-or-death matters they usually were.
so that he was often, without too much difficulty, to navigate the mistletoe-free routes between classes.
Lily giggled a bit and Sirius was eyeing his pup with a pout, both clearly refraining from saying something in regards to this.
"If Ginny was under one of those you think he would?" Sirius muttered to Prongs, clearly not completely able to hold himself back.
James snickered slightly but clearly decided against answering.
Ron, who might once have found the necessity of these detours excuse for jealousy rather than hilarity, simply roared with laughter about it all. Although Harry much preferred this new laughing, joking Ron to the moody, aggressive model he had been enduring for the last few weeks,
Sirius couldn't help but snort enthusiastically at such a comparison, immediately telling James, "do we get the chance to upgrade models often? I wouldn't mind trading Prongs in for a more lively version every now and again."
"Excuse me, I'm sorry I don't always have the energy to go gallivanting with you when my newborn had me up at all hours," James returned with pure indulgence.
the improved Ron came at a heavy price. Firstly, Harry had to put up with the frequent presence of Lavender Brown, who seemed to regard any moment that she was not kissing Ron as a moment wasted;
"Ugh, the horror," Remus agreed, thankful Prongs and Evans really weren't ever so flamboyant in that department.
and secondly, Harry found himself once more the best friend of two people who seemed unlikely ever to speak to each other again.
No one could muster up even a smile for that, it was never fun to hear in the first place, and this time more than any as the argument didn't even have any clear sides. Both of those kids needed to talk to each other to fix this, and at this rate, that didn't seem likely.
Ron, whose hands and forearms still bore scratches and cuts from Hermione's bird attack, was taking a defensive and resentful tone.
"I can't even blame him," Sirius sighed.
"Hermione always has been the violent one, wish Ron would shout back what his problem was and then they'd be on even ground again," Remus agreed.
Ron was often telling Harry how she couldn't complain, having done the same to Krum. Now someone wanted to snog him, he hadn't done anything wrong.
"Did he ever even tell her that was his original anger with her?" Lily demanded. "As far as she's concerned, she's been attacked for ages before Lavender even came around."
Harry remained silent now as he was then, he really had no want at all to get in between his friends lives, love-lives to be specific, at any point in time.
Harry did not answer, but pretended to be absorbed in the book they were supposed to have read before Charms next morning (Quintessence: A Quest). Determined as he was to remain friends with both Ron and Hermione, he was spending a lot of time with his mouth shut tight.
"You don't have that problem in here," Sirius heavily hinted.
Harry just gave a shrug, trying in vain to put into words for him, "I really have no more want to say anything about it. I wish they'd make up, but even if they did, they'd be right back where they started, especially with Lavender around now."
When Harry didn't respond this time as well, Ron continued in a lower mutter he hadn't promised Hermione anything, sure he was going to that party with her, but she'd never, it had just been as friends. He was a free agent.
Lily's brow creased as they did finally get an answer for that, and Ron's actions seemed more deplorable by the moment. Had Hermione outright said as friends, or was it simply implied because the meaning wasn't clear? Ron really should have done more to clarify what he was going with Hermione as before he hooked up with Lavender, but then, so should have Hermione, as she'd spent the past years never giving Ron a clear answer either.
Harry turned a page of Quintessence, aware that Ron was watching him. Ron's voice trailed away in mutters, barely audible over the loud crackling of the fire, though Harry thought he caught the words "Krum" and "Can't complain" again.
Hermione's schedule was so full that Harry could only talk to her properly in the evenings, when Ron was, in any case, so tightly wrapped around Lavender that he did not notice what Harry was doing. Hermione refused to sit in the common room while Ron was there, so Harry generally joined her in the library, which meant that their conversations were held in whispers.
Hermione insisted he was at liberty to kiss whomever he liked, she didn't care, while raising her quill and dotting an 'i' so ferociously that she punctured a hole in her parchment.
"Hmm, yes, she's perfectly all at ease here," James muttered.
Harry said nothing. He thought his voice might soon vanish from the lack of use. He bent a little lower over Advanced Potion-Making and continued to make notes on Everlasting Elixirs, occasionally pausing to decipher the prince's useful additions to Libatius Borage's text.
Hermione added on a few moments later Harry needed to be careful as well.
Harry testily said for the last time he wasn't giving up his Potions book. It had taught him more than Slughorn and Snape together-
All four of them got a good laugh out of that, though the boys were just smug Harry's independent studies were doing him some good like theirs had, Lily's laugh still felt a bit more knowing than she'd let on.
Hermione gave the text a nasty look before correcting she'd meant about Slughorn's party. She'd overheard some girls, including that Romilda Vane, slipping Harry a love potion so he'd invite one of them.
Harry spluttered with indignity while the others just looked sorrowful for that situation. "Surely that's not allowed?!"
"Not particularly, at least, no more than using magic on students is in the corridors," Lily said carefully.
"Still, a detention seems mild, considering all one could do under a love potion, as opposed to just jinxing someone else," James was on Harry's side, he didn't like the idea of his kid being forced to take someone to a party he didn't even want to go to.
"The effects wear off just like any magic, it's really not even that powerful, the range is usually exaggerated and while under the influence of one it also depends on how susceptible you are. Much like the Imperius curse I suppose, though that all depends on the brew." Lily seemed rather mild about it all, but her lips were tight with distaste as she remembered Merope and the extreme that had gone on there. Perhaps some sort of regulation should be put in place more, just because people generally didn't use them for more than harmless fun didn't mean there weren't those who couldn't.
Harry demanded why she hadn't confiscated them, it seemed extraordinary that Hermione's mania for upholding the rules could have abandoned her at this crucial juncture.
"What makes you think she didn't?" Remus asked in confusion, it had been his first thought she would.
"She'd just said she's sure they worked and I should be careful," Harry protested.
"Which makes me sure they have more, not that Hermione didn't step in to take what they did have," Sirius shrugged.
Hermione scowled as she explained they hadn't had them with them, otherwise she would have. So unless that half-blood prince could dream up an antidote for a dozen love potions,
Lily snorted softly, muttering something about not tempting her to try. James chuckled lightly for that, knowing it was a challenge his wife would love.
he should invite someone himself. It was tomorrow, and they were getting desperate.
"Why does he have to invite anyone at all!" James protested. "He didn't even want to go!"
"He could just be like Prongs and go stag everywhere," Sirius smirked.
"It's the Yule Ball all over again," Harry groaned in disgust without even hearing him.
"Why not try something of the same tactic then, invite Hermione now as a friend, or even Ron. Lavender wouldn't be able to go, it could be a way to get you all talking again," Remus offered.
"Merlin do I hope I think of that," Harry sighed.
Harry muttered there wasn't anyone he wanted to invite, while trying not to think about Ginny any more than he could help, despite the fact the fact that she kept cropping up in his dreams in ways that made him devoutly thankful that Ron could not perform Legilimency.
Sirius snorted out a laugh while Harry's misery only grew, that wasn't something he'd ever wanted anyone to hear.
Hermione grimly finished he'd best be careful what he drank then. Romilda Vane had meant business.
"I don't think Hermione looks anything like me," Sirius said pointedly.
Harry got a small laugh out of that, wishing that was all that ever went on in his life, puns from his godfather.
Harry's attention caught on something else to do with that conversation, hadn't Filch banned the Weasley's products?
"And?" All four of them demanded in surprise, looking at Harry like he'd lost his mind.
Harry shushed them, looking at Remus intently to continue his train of thought for them.
Hermione reminded since when did anyone in this school pay attention to what Filch banned.
Harry pointed out those had gotten into the school despite owls being searched.
Hermione explained it was part of the twins service, they ship it in as cough medicine.
Harry was unintentionally derailed, asking why she knew so much about it.
"She was looking at them in their shop," Lily recalled with an odd look at him, clearly wondering like the rest why he was bringing this up. "She'd have read the labels, probably seen some of the deals on how they got around."
"If the twins could smuggle that into the school, what else could be getting in under Filch then," Harry replied absently, finally letting them in on why he'd barely heard her response anymore than Hermione's, but easily catching the others up where his mind was.
"Still on Malfoy then," Sirius snorted. "I gave up on his waste of a life when he missed a Quidditch game!"
"You know, when I said invite a friend, I didn't think that's what you'd have in mind." Remus offered with a smirk.
Harry scowled at both of them making light of this, when he was still convinced there was something going on there. Because Malfoy clearly hadn't done anything yet, they seemed to be just passing the whole thing off by now, and it was driving him nuts.
Hermione gave him the kind of nasty look she had just given his copy of Advanced Potion-Making, coldly replying it had been on the labels for the bottles she'd seen in their shop this summer. She'd didn't go around putting potions in people's drinks, or making others think she had, which was just as bad.
"Eh, I still thought that was brilliant," James chuckled.
Harry waved her off and went on to his idea about Malfoy slipping in that necklace past Filch disgusted as something else.
Hermione was exasperated at once, but Harry demanded a reason this couldn't have worked.
"I don't see why she's being so impatient with you, it's good having this explained to you," Lily sighed.
Hermione reminded him of the Secrecy Sensors, which were also checking mail. They'd detect such a thing as that necklace,
"You both are missing something really obvious," James said with a frown at Harry.
When his expression didn't change, James insisted, "the secret passages. If Malfoy wants something going in and out of the school, that's the best way I can think of."
"Malfoy probably doesn't know about those," Harry said dismissively at once.
"Malfoy's not the only one who needs to know about them," Sirius frowned in understanding as he cottoned on to Prongs at once.
Harry chewed thoughtfully on the idea, which quickly grew into a gnawing worry. They'd taken his Death Eater idea at word, and of all the available Death Eaters, he did know of at least one that could fit exactly what they worried about.
Lily cleared her throat hard before grabbing their attention back, "yes, well, we still have nothing concrete to worry about. If," she stressed the word with worried eyes on her son, "Malfoy is up to something this year, and all that talk from Narcissa at the beginning wasn't just worried about something going on much later, then yes we can worry about it then."
All the boys sighed, not at all liking to the idea of their secret passages being boarded up for any reason, but suddenly the very real risk to the school was present and could no longer be overlooked.
but those love potions weren't considered dark or dangerous.
"She can speak for herself on that one," Sirius sniffed.
Harry huffed that was easy for her to say.
Sirius got a good laugh for mimicking Harry, and so did he.
Hermione ignored him and continued Filch wouldn't know the difference between a cough potion and a love potion, he just wasn't a good enough wizard, but he didn't need to be to-
Hermione stopped dead; Harry had heard it too. Somebody had moved close behind them among the dark bookshelves. They waited, and a moment later the vulture like countenance of Madam Pince appeared around the corner, her sunken cheeks, her skin like parchment, and her long hooked nose illuminated unflatteringly by the lamp she was carrying.
"Lovely descriptions as always," Remus snickered. He'd never much cared for her either, what with the rants she always gave him for drooling over the books he had a tendency to fall asleep on.
She breathed at them the library was now closed- then shouted at Harry what a depraved boy he was and lunged for his book.
Lily sniffed, those notes improved that book, something Pince would never understand.
Harry quickly snatched it away, defending it wasn't a library book but his own!
Her hands turned clawlike as she told him he'd desecrated it!
"It's a bloody textbook, some teachers even encourage us to write in them," Sirius huffed, wanting to chuck one in her face.
Harry had to tug it out of her grip.
She looked as though she might have a seizure;
"Is that all it takes!" James popped himself on the forehead, "and there I was, wasting away my time trying to convince Padfoot to just chew on one."
"I'm sure it would have had the same effect, if I'd ever bothered," Sirius sniffed. He'd tried it once, and the feel of it had been weird enough he hadn't tried it again.
Hermione, who had hastily packed her things, grabbed Harry by the arm and frog marched him away.
She scolded he'd be banned if he wasn't more careful.
"Can she actually do that?" Sirius got a dreamy look on his face. "Think the teachers would go for an, 'I couldn't do my homework,' excuse if so?"
"I sincerely doubt it, considering you never bothered cracking open a book to begin with," Remus snorted.
Harry protested it wasn't his fault, she'd probably heard Hermione being rude about Filch, he'd always suspected there was something going on between them.
Harry smiled as he again managed to get everyone around him laughing for that idea.
Enjoying the fact that they could speak normally again, they made their way along the deserted lamp-lit corridors back to the common room, arguing whether or not Filch and Madam Pince were secretly in love with each other.
"Finally, a normal conversation between you two!" James cackled. "I was beginning to wonder if you had it in you."
The second he walked through the portrait hole, Romilda was waiting,
Lily clucked her tongue and rolled her eyes, she knew that feeling.
offering him a gillywater.
Harry denied, and undeterred, Romilda thrust a box of Chocolate Cauldrons on him that had firewhisky in their center.
"Subtlety is clearly not her Charm," Remus snorted.
Unable to think of anything else to do, he accepted them and quickly followed Hermione away. She began with an 'I told you so',
"Anything that stops an 'I told you so,' has to be a good thing," Sirius huffed.
but her face suddenly turned blank; she had just spotted Ron and Lavender, who were intertwined in the same armchair.
Hermione quickly excused herself to the dormitory without another word.
Harry went to bed comforting himself that there was only one more day of lessons to struggle through, plus Slughorn's party, after which he and Ron would depart together for the Burrow. It now seemed impossible that Ron and Hermione would make up with each other before the holidays began, but perhaps, somehow, the break would give them time to calm down, think better of their behavior...
"I wouldn't hold my breath," Remus sighed.
But his hopes were not high, and they sank still lower after enduring a Transfiguration lesson with them both next day. They had just embarked upon the immensely difficult topic of human transfiguration; working in front of mirrors, they were supposed to be changing the color of their own eyebrows.
James and Sirius had scoffed at the use of 'immensely difficult.'
Hermione laughed unkindly at Ron's disastrous first attempt, during which he somehow managed to give himself a spectacular handlebar mustache;
"Don't really know what she was laughing about then," Sirius snorted.
"I personally think they look dashing, was going to grow one myself," James agreed, smoothing non-existent hair down on his chin.
Lily made a face and refused to commentate, afraid it would only encourage him no matter what she said.
Ron retaliated by doing a cruel but accurate impression of Hermione jumping up and down in her seat every time Professor McGonagall asked a question, which Lavender and Parvati found deeply amusing and which reduced Hermione to the verge of tears again.
"Eesh," Remus winced and made a face.
"Those two really know how to hit each other's buttons," James sighed.
"I'm a bit surprised that's what almost made her cry, she should be used to Ron making fun of that," Sirius rolled his eyes.
"It's a difference when they're friends and you know it!" Lily snapped.
Sirius put his hands up defensively and stopped arguing the point, but clearly nothing had changed and neither still saw the others side.
She raced out of the classroom on the bell, leaving half her things behind; Harry, deciding that her need was greater than Ron's just now,
Sirius winced then, he wasn't entirely cruel and wished Ron wouldn't provoke her that bad. He just hoped she didn't run into another troll.
scooped up her remaining possessions and followed her.
He finally tracked her down as she emerged from a girl's bathroom on the floor below.
Sirius winced even harder his little joke almost came to pass.
She was accompanied by Luna Lovegood, who was patting her vaguely on the back.
She greeted him by pointing out one of his eyebrows was yellow.
"Congrats Harry, you got halfway there on your first lesson," James tried to say with chipper.
He greeted her back as he held out Hermione's books.
Hermione took them, thanked him in a choked voice, and she hurried off, without ever giving Harry any time to offer words of comfort, though admittedly he could not think of any.
Luna said she was a bit upset, something about Ron Weasley.
Harry agreed they'd had a row.
Luna decided he was funny sometimes, but a bit unkind.
"That about sums Ron up," Lily sighed in agreement.
Luna was demonstrating her usual knack of speaking uncomfortable truths; he had never met anyone quite like her.
"Nor have I," Sirius agreed with genuine disappointment, but then he supposed, that's why he liked her so much.
He instead politely asked how her term had been going, and she began by saying rather pleasant, as Ginny had gotten many people to stop calling her Loony-
Then Harry burst out, interrupting her to ask if Luna would go to Slughorn's party with him.
James busted out laughing in surprise. None of the others were really any better, but he still took a moment to catch his breath around Harry's stammering, "don't want to think about Ginny that much eh?"
"Wha-no! It's not like that, I mean, I just didn't, I used a friend-"
They were still happily snickering at him, so Harry reached forward to snatch the book away from Remus. He held it protectively, but shook himself off and kept going nonetheless, after pacifying, "we know Harry, but glory you always find a way to make asking anyone out the most interesting thing."
The words were out of Harry's mouth before he could stop them; he heard himself say them as though it were a stranger speaking.
Luna turned her protuberant eyes to him in surprise.
Harry quickly made his intentions perfectly clear, saying just as friends only, and of course if she didn't want to, as he mentally finished he was already hoping she didn't.
Luna was already beaming though, saying she'd love to go as friends.
"Nawh," Lily cooed softly. As she'd just said, clearly Luna had little to no interaction with any friends, so suddenly this seemed like the best idea in the world to her! Why couldn't Harry fall for a nice girl like this, instead of one who caused trouble or his best mates sister? Then again, she'd demanded of the world for ages why Potter had decided he was in love with her, and that had all worked out for the best, so she kept that idea to herself.
Nobody had ever asked her to a party before, as a friend. Should she dye her eyebrow for the event?
"I really love there's just no hesitancy in offering this," Sirius said sincerely, "honestly, whatever party involves that would be better than Slughorn's anyways!"
Harry firmly corrected this idea, saying that had been a mistake, and he'd meet her down in the entrance hall at eight.
A shout of joy came from above, Peeves had overheard the whole thing and at once began chanting that Potty luurved Loony!
Harry scowled even more at their renewed laughter, but at least it was dying down now. Remus did that a little too accurately.
"Got to love Peeves!" James insisted.
"What's your problem Harry, if you're just going with her as a friend why the bother?" Sirius demanded.
"You lot laughing and knowing I don't mean it is grating enough, think how the whole school's going to take it and refusing to even consider the same," Harry said slowly as if to a dim child.
Sirius needed no such help to grasp the situation, but it only caused his lips to start itching again with amusement. He was as well aware as anyone what rumors that school spouted, he just wished his pup would learn to laugh them off a little more than get so uppity about them.
Sure enough, in no time at all the whole school seemed to know that Harry Potter was taking Luna Lovegood to Slughorn's party.
Ron was as much in disbelief as anyone, stating he could have any girl in the whole school, and he chose Loony Lovegood?
Lily huffed and wished Hermione was around to smack him again. Was it really so hard to believe? Ron himself had said she wasn't so bad last year. She didn't understand why none of them had made an effort to hang out with kids outside their circle, outside their house, since they'd made all those friends in the D.A. last year.
Ginny had heard as she was passing by and snapped at him not to call her that, then turned to Harry and encouraged how great this was, she'd never seen her friend so excited. Then she moved to go sit next to Dean.
Harry tried to feel pleased that Ginny was glad he was taking Luna to the party but could not quite manage it. A long way along the table Hermione was sitting alone, playing with her stew. Harry noticed Ron looking at her furtively.
Harry reminded he could apologize any time he liked.
"Tell me whose side you're on again?" Sirius chuckled.
"Whichever one gets them talking again," Harry sighed.
Ron snapped he'd just get attacked by canaries again.
"I like to think Hermione's a little more original," James offered. "Maybe she'll use toucans this time."
"Or perhaps summon a clowder of cats," Remus agreed.
"What?" Harry muttered.
"A group of cats is called a clowder, keep up Harry," Sirius waved off.
Harry said he was only making things worse, why'd he imitate her in class?
Ron snapped she'd laughed at his mustache!
So had Harry, it had been the stupidest thing he'd seen.
"Damn, so that's a no on my own?" James pouted.
But Ron did not seem to have heard;
"A shame, he bloody needed to," Lily groused.
Lavender had just arrived with Parvati. Squeezing herself in between Harry and Ron, Lavender flung her arms around Ron's neck.
Parvati greeted Harry with much less enthusiasm, looking faintly embarrassed and bored by the behavior of their two friends.
"Oh good, I thought it was just me," Harry huffed.
Hermione passed by then, and Parvati gave a very bright and cheerful greeting, positively beaming. Harry could tell that she was feeling guilty for having laughed at Hermione in Transfiguration. He looked around and saw that Hermione was beaming back, if possible even more brightly.
"Girls," all four boys muttered, causing Lily to shake her head in disbelief.
Girls were very strange sometimes.
Lily then added an eyeroll to boot while Sirius got a snicker out of that.
Hermione asked if she was coming to the party tonight, and Parvati sighed she hadn't been invited, wasn't Hermione?
She agreed yes, with Cormac, they were meeting at eight-
Then Lily let out a whistle of surprise as she at once saw what Hermione was doing. If she'd wanted to make her feelings plain, she'd just found the perfect way.
James huffed and grumbled a bit, muttering how grateful he was no lads around school had ever had the gall to say yes to his Lily Flower, even if he was aware she'd tried going out with a few others for a short time. Snivilius' treatment over the years had been more than enough of a deterrent for most though.
There was a noise like a plunger being withdrawn from a blocked sink, and Ron surfaced.
Sirius burst out laughing this time, his pup really did just have the best descriptions for everything!
Hermione acted as though she had not seen or heard anything.
"I can not imagine how," James cocked his head to the side.
Parvati confirmed Cormac McLaggen!
Hermione sweetly agreed that was the one, you know, the lad who had almost become the Gryffindor Keeper.
"Hermione's being really low here," Sirius huffed.
"I think she proved her point quite nicely," Lily giggled, before frowning slightly as his statement really sunk in. "I find this just as equal as what Ron's doing, and it's better than attacking him again. That really wasn't fair of her, so this is the better of the two."
"No one going to say anything about poor innocent McLaggen getting used?" Remus rolled his eyes.
"Harry, smack him for that stupid comment for me, will you?" Sirius leisurely stretched to indicate why he wasn't.
Harry didn't, he was still to busy making faces at his friends furthering this rather than just talking again.
Hermione, gave a very un-Hermione-ish giggle.
Parvati pointed out Hermione must really like her Quidditch players.
"Irony," Remus muttered, considering Hermione had made it as plain as Lily how she felt of the sport, but that girl did tend to get around with the lot.
Hermione corrected she liked good Quidditch players.
"Ouch," all five of them muttered, before James wound up with a defensive look in place, "well by her own statement that doesn't hold. Ron beat out McLaggen in tryouts, and Ron also has won two of the four games he's played. Therefore, Hermione deciding McLaggen over him-"
"James," Lily tisked before he could keep going, he knew as well as any of them what Hermione was doing and was just trying to get himself into a topic of stats again.
He pouted at her, but relinquished he'd have to interrogate his son later for numbers on who could really be the better player. His money was still on Ron, even if McLaggen might have more experience.
She left. At once Lavender and Parvati put their heads together to discuss this new development, with everything they had ever heard about McLaggen, and all they had ever guessed about Hermione. Ron looked strangely blank and said nothing.
"Ron's own words coming back to bite him," Lily said wisely. If he could go around snogging whoever he liked, Hermione was clearly going to indulge in the same.
Harry was left to ponder in silence the depths to which girls would sink to get revenge.
"You've no idea," Lily agreed. "This really isn't even so bad."
Harry looked even more dumbfounded now, not entirely sure he wanted to know what else his mum could have gotten up to in school.
When he arrived in the entrance hall at eight o'clock that night, he found an unusually large number of girls lurking there, all of whom seemed to be staring at him resentfully as he approached Luna. She was wearing a set of spangled silver robes that were attracting a certain amount of giggles from the onlookers, but otherwise she looked quite nice. Harry was glad, in any case, that she had left off her radish earrings, her butterbeer cork necklace, and her Spectrespecs.
"What a shame," Sirius sighed. "Such conversation starters left behind."
They headed up to Slughorn's office, Harry asking if she'd heard the rumor there was a vampire coming.
"I'd prefer the werewolf," Sirius huffed.
Remus rolled his eyes heavily, he'd been suckered into going to those parties by both him and James more than once and had regretted every one.
Luna asked if it was Rufus Scrimgeour?
"Eh?" James muttered in confusion, wondering if they'd missed something in his brief introduction at that first chapter.
"Probably another of Luna's, ah," Lily trailed off while playing with a bit of her hair.
"Fantastic ideas," Sirius finished for her with chipper.
Harry looked on in confusion this was the same Minister of Magic they were talking about.
Luna agreed the very one. Her dad had tried to publish an article over it, but the Ministry had stopped them so the truth couldn't get out.
"Obviously," Remus agreed while trying to fight back a laugh, while the others didn't even bother.
Harry, who thought it most unlikely that Rufus Scrimgeour was a vampire, but who was used to Luna repeating her father's bizarre views as though they were fact, did not reply; they were already approaching Slughorn's office and the sounds of laughter, music, and loud conversation were growing louder with every step they took.
Whether it had been built that way, or because he had used magical trickery to make it so, Slughorn's office was much larger than the usual teacher's study.
"Magic," Sirius impatiently explained, "he's always been one to make himself seem larger. Unnecessary really, you couldn't overlook him anymore than Hagrid."
The ceiling and walls had been draped with emerald, crimson , and gold hangings, so that it looked as though they were all inside a vast tent. The room was crowded and stuffy and bathed in the red light cast by an ornate golden lamp dangling from the center of the ceiling in which real fairies were fluttering, each a brilliant speck of light. Loud singing accompanied by what sounded like mandolins issued from a distant corner; a haze of pipe smoke hung over several elderly warlocks deep in conversation, and a number of house- elves were negotiating their way squeakily through the forest of knees, obscured by the heavy silver platters of food they were bearing, so that they looked like little roving tables.
"That's intentional, I'm sure," Lily sighed. She hadn't heard anything about Hermione's SPEW tactics in a while, she sort of missed that, rather than this recurring problem with Ron.
Slughorn beamed the moment he caught sight of him, grabbing hold of him and already trying to introduce him to everyone in sight, so many he needed to meet!
"Just as many I'd like to avoid," James huffed.
Slughorn was wearing a tasseled velvet hat to match his smoking jacket. Gripping Harry's arm so tightly he might have been hoping to Disapparate with him, Slughorn led him purposefully into the party; Harry seized Luna's hand and dragged her along with him.
"It is the reason you invited her along, to suffer with you," Sirius agreed with a sigh.
They first met Eldred Worple, who wrote a book on Vampires thanks to his friend Sanguini.
Worple, who was a small, stout, bespectacled man, grabbed Harry's hand and shook it enthusiastically; the vampire Sanguini, who was tall and emaciated with dark shadows under his eyes, merely nodded.
"Now picture having to stare at that in a classroom every day as a first year," Remus scoffed. "It's a wonder everyone thought Trocar was a vampire."
"Or why we insist Snivellus is one as well," James agreed.
He looked rather bored. A gaggle of girls was standing close to him, looking curious and excited.
Worple met him cheerfully, and continued he'd just been saying to Slughorn where was the biography on Harry Potter everyone was waiting on?
"Have we?" Sirius asked dryly. "I don't recall, must have slipped my mind!"
"The amount of books you've ignored, I can imagine you wouldn't even notice if one was done about you," Remus shot at him.
Harry just muttered these seven were as close as anyone was going to get.
He continued seriously,
"Apparently there is one!" Sirius went wide-eyed with delight, before his eyes glazed over at the thought. "Nah, Moony's right, still not worth it."
"He's impossible," James told the others conversationally.
he'd be happy to be of service with this. A few four hour interviews, no real effort on Harry's part at all, they'd have it together in a matter of months- the he snapped at Sanguini to stay close. The vampire had been edging towards the girls with a hungry look in his eye.
"Shouldn't be letting himself get so distracted," James huffed, already wishing to steer Harry away from this.
Worple sized a pasty from a passing elf and stuffed it into Sanguini's hand before turning his attention back to Harry.
"I feel like that's not actually going to satisfy him," Lily muttered, still a bit concerned.
Harry firmly said he was not interested.
"Here's hoping he takes a hint," Remus said in disgust, picturing another Skeeter like wannabe now after Harry.
He excused himself then, spotting Hermione and dragging Luna along with him again after her.
She was relieved to see him, saying she'd just escaped- err, left Cormac.
Lily stiffened with unease and all of the boys frowned, wanting to corner McLaggen themselves now. No lady should ever have to feel like she escaped a date, that was just wrong.
Under mistletoe, she explained to his questioning look.
"What a wanker!" James yelped, very much wishing now he could dissuade McLaggen from ever going near mistletoe for any reason again. His friends and son's expression made it clear they'd help.
Harry told her it served her right, coming here with him.
"Harry!" Lily scolded.
"She brought it on herself," he began grudgingly defended, before he sighed and relented with the same look he'd given his friend at the time, "but I'm happy she didn't have to spend anymore time with him once she realized it."
Hermione dispassionately said she'd been sure he'd annoy Ron the most, she'd even considered Zacharias Smith,
"Wow, Hermione was really trying to prove a point," Sirius grumbled, thinking it was all pointless anyways, if she'd just talk to the idiot she clearly had feelings for.
and she wished she had now, McLaggen made Grawp look like a gentleman.
Lily scoffed and hoped some of Hermione's temper had come through, taught that rotten boy a lesson about how to treat others.
The three of them made their way over to the other side of the room, scooping up goblets of mead on the way, realizing too late that Professor Trelawney was standing there alone.
"Finally, we're in need of a laugh," Remus sighed, they hadn't really anything fun to chat about in ages, Trelawney was usually good for that, or, she had been. Now none of them could think of her without wincing anymore than Dumbledore.
James' expression had gone purely sour, none of them had forgotten it was her ruddy prediction that would get them into this mess very, very soon, and had already ruined Harry's life.
Trelawney greeted Luna with difficulty, her breath smelled of sherry as she said she hadn't spotted her in class lately.
Luna said she had Firenze this year.
"Why am I not surprised Luna took Divination," Sirius nodded, he could imagine these two getting along well.
Trelawney continued in a drunken titter about that horse, it was a insult. So far she seemed too tipsy to recognize Harry.
"Yet," James sighed. "Give it a few moments, the death omens will commence."
"As inaccurately as ever," Sirius agreed with chipper.
Under cover of her furious criticisms of Firenze, Harry drew closer to Hermione and asked if she was going to tell Ron about her interference in the Keeper tryouts?
Hermione said she wouldn't stoop that low.
Harry was relived, saying all it would do was make him fall apart again, they couldn't lose the next match-
"Yeah, I can see how that would backfire, again," Lily heaved a heavy sigh. She liked to think Ron would see the kinder side of her act, she was only trying to help her friend, but really it only showed she had no confidence in Ron, again.
Hermione angrily spat that's all boys cared about was Quidditch. Cormac hadn't asked one question about her all night, no, it was 'A Hundred Great Saves by Cormac McLaggen.' Then speak of the one, she spotted him and vanished so fast she could have disapparated away.
Harry scowled, his hand twitching for his wand anyone made Hermione run off like that.
He at once asked Harry if he'd seen Hermione, and he said no at once and turned back to Luna, forgetting for the moment who she'd been talking to.
"The windbag's better than the blowhard," Remus sniffed.
"Curse him Harry, Slughorn won't do anything to you!" James mock whispered.
This caused Trelawney to finally take notice of him. She at once began of the rumors and stories around him, the Chosen One and all, of course she'd known for a very long time before that.
"Oh yes, of course she has, so kind of her to warn us of it all!" Sirius graciously spewed out while holding back wanting to crush her skull.
Why had he not returned to divination? He of all people must see it as the utmost importance!
"Yes, I do miss tea time in the middle of class," Lily said sweetly, unable to completely hide her clipped tone.
Slughorn arrived then, chastising all of the teachers found their class the most important. He'd never seen a more natural Potioneer, just like his mother!
Lily gave a real giggle of affection, sometimes she missed Slughorn.
Even Severus could hardly rival! To Harry's horror Slughorn seemed to pull Snape right out the crowd from nowhere to join the conversation,
All five of them groaned heavily, it really had been nice going so long not hearing a word of his nasty habits. Seemed getting the DADA job really had put him in a better mood, as he'd yet to really be shown insulting Harry anymore, this was not a kind return they were looking forward to!
Still going on about Harry's exceptional work, of course credit went to him, teaching him the past five years.
James suddenly blinked in surprise, giving Lily a funny sort of look as her laughter increased, though now she was trying to cover it with her hand. He opened his mouth to ask her, for the thousandth time it seemed today, just what was so funny, but Remus hadn't noticed a thing, and James sat back with a calculating look in place, for now merely content on watching her laughter, a noise he knew he'd never grow tired of.
Trapped, with Slughorns arm around his shoulders, Snape looked down his hooked nose at Harry, his black eyes narrowed as he said how funny that was, he hadn't thought he'd taught Potter much of anything.
Lily had schooled her features quickly enough and was scowling along with the rest, honestly agreeing with Sirius' statement, "not like you ever tried!" Even if she was the only one to appreciate the irony.
Snape eyes were boring into Harry, who felt a certain disquiet. The last thing he wanted was for Snape to start investigating the source of his newfound brilliance at Potions.
Her lips twitched again, to a frown this time though. She wouldn't much enjoy it either if Snape found that old book, she didn't like to think what it would bring up, or the problems Harry would have with Slughorn and the school if it did.
Slughorn asked what he was going on to do, and Harry said Auror.
Luna unexpectedly jumped in to say Harry shouldn't do that, they were part of the Rotfang conspiracy, who were planning to bring down the Ministry of Magic from within using Dark Magic and gum diseases.
James blinked slowly at such a random insertion into the conversation, as if coming back from thinking of something a long ways off, but quickly jumped in, "see, this is why I'm so glad you invited Luna along! This is exactly what we needed to liven this party!"
"I think it's all the more reason for Harry to join," Sirius quickly agreed with a happy little chuckle. "He can tear that Conspiracy apart from the inside out!"
"I'd honestly like to hear more about this first, see what we can learn from such a secretive organization living right inside the Ministry," Remus chuckled.
Harry inhaled half his mead up his nose as he started to laugh.
"The whole party was worth it just for that," Harry rubbed his nose in remembrance.
Really, it had been worth bringing Luna just for this.
"Least we're safe in the knowledge you haven't changed," Sirius chuckled in agreement.
Emerging, from his goblet, coughing, sopping wet but still grinning, he saw something calculated to raise his spirits even higher: Draco Malfoy being dragged by the ear toward them by Argus Filch.
"That honestly never does get old," James started grinning at once, the idea of McGonagall doing this to Malfoy again the only thing that could make it better for whatever Malfoy was caught doing.
"Oh!" Harry yelped in pain, pressing hard to his temple which did nothing to alleviate it. Too late to do anything to resist it, the feeling arose again of something important was about to happen, and he ground his teeth together in pain to stop himself thinking at some stupid party!
Remus gave him an anxious look beside him, they all did, but all they could do was go on with that bitter disappointment of again one pure fun moment being snatched away by the never-ending problems in Harry's life.
Filch wheezed out he'd caught this one a floor above trying to sneak down here, saying he'd been invited.
Harry had a hard time for a moment just struggling to remember how to swallow. It was all right there, he was sure of it, crowding around his mind and pressing loudly for his attention, when all he could do was groan in misery and clutch at his head.
Malfoy finally managed to pull himself away to snap he'd lied, he was gate crashing, happy?
"He was probably indignant, this is the first time a Malfoy's ever had to gate crash a party," James muttered without any real attention.
Filch said he wasn't,
"Now why don't I believe him?" Remus rolled his eyes, at least trying to act like this was all normal.
"A student's in trouble, I'm surprised he hasn't pissed himself in pleasure yet," Sirius sniffed.
which didn't quite match the glee on his face as he declared the punishment this was worth!
Slughorn tried to intervene, saying it was Christmas, and of course Draco could stay.
"Urgh, I can't even be mad," James huffed. "The amount of times Slughorn's actually covered for us, doing the same! Course, he often used it to guilt us into going to more of these, so we were never too grateful," James trailed off unhappily when he realized Harry wasn't paying one word of attention, still rubbing furiously at his temple.
Filich's expression of outraged disappointment was perfectly predictable; but why, Harry wondered, watching him, did Malfoy look almost equally unhappy? And why was Snape looking at Malfoy as though both angry and . . . was it possible? ... a little afraid?
Now all four of them were twitching with just as much unease as Harry. Maybe they had been too dismissive of Snape's opening, maybe Malfoy was trying to do something this year, much sooner than they'd been thinking.
But almost before Harry had registered what he had seen, Filch had turned and shuffled away, muttering under his breath; Malfoy had composed his face into a smile and was thanking Slughorn for his generosity, and Snape's face was smoothly inscrutable again.
"Malfoy's never been good at hiding anything, Snape on the other hand," James trailed off unhappily.
Slughorn waved this off, saying to think of it as a return of favor for his old grandfather.
Malfoy quickly agreed his thanks, he had always said he was the best potion-maker he'd ever known!
"Flattery is still getting him everywhere," Sirius scowled.
Harry stared at Malfoy. It was not the sucking-up that intrigued him; he had watched Malfoy do that to Snape for a long time. It was the fact that Malfoy did, after all, look a little ill. This was the first time he had seen Malfoy close up for ages; he now saw that Malfoy had dark shadows under his eyes and a distinctly grayish tinge to his skin.
"What on earth does that little prat have to be so stressed about?" Remus sighed, but not as if he really meant it. Suddenly that conversation with his mother was at the forefront of all their minds. What exactly had Voldemort asked him to do? It was now very clear it was happening right now, what else could be going on?
Harry would have been far more smug if his head wasn't hurting so badly.
Snape interrupted he'd like a word.
They left, Snape leading the way, Malfoy looking resentful. Harry stood there for a moment, irresolute,
"Why the hesitation?" Lily asked in surprise, the thought hadn't even crossed her mind. "By this point, I'd have thought you'd be following them before their cloak swung around the door."
"I'll admit, I was starting to feel a little paranoid," Harry answered distractedly, only the sound of his mother's voice able to penetrate the sieve of his pain filled mind right now.
then said he'd be right back to Luna, excusing himself to the bathroom.
"There's my boys subtlety, always shining through," James tried for sarcasm, but he was leaning forward too eagerly to mean it. He was far to curious if Harry could actually hear something of use for all this.
He thought he heard her, as he hurried off into the crowd, resume the subject of the Rotfang Conspiracy with Professor Trelawney, who seemed sincerely interested.
"Oh look, I was right," Remus said distractedly.
It was easy, once out of the party, to pull his Invisibility Cloak out of his pocket and throw it over himself, for the corridor was quite deserted.
Sirius almost wanted to burst with excitement. Finally, something completely uncontested Harry was using that old cloak for, to spy on Snape!
What was more difficult was finding Snape and Malfoy. Harry ran down the corridor, the noise of his feet masked by the music and loud talk still issuing from Slughorn's office behind him. Perhaps Snape had taken Malfoy to his office in the dungeons ... or perhaps he was escorting him back to the Slytherin common room. . . . Harry pressed his ear against door after door as he dashed down the corridor until, with a great jolt of excitement, he crouched down to the keyhole of the last classroom in the corridor and heard voices.
Snape was saying Draco couldn't afford such mistakes or he was going to be expelled.
Draco protested he didn't have anything to do with that Bell girl! She must have some enemy out there no one knew of!
Remus' hand ached along the page with tension. Where as before he really hadn't known how Malfoy even could have a hand in that, suddenly Snape suspecting him of as much made the possibility seem as if it were back open again. Malfoy's return was certainly ridiculous, what would an average Hogwarts student have to do with this.
"What exactly is Malfoy supposed to be doing?" James hissed for what felt like the thousandth time. "If Snape thinks for a second it involves anything to do with Katie, this all became so much more terrifying!"
Then Malfoy told him to stop, that Occlumency wasn't going to work on him!
Snape grudgingly said his Aunt Bellatrix had been giving him some lessons.
Harry scowled anew, but more for the idea Malfoy picked up on something he never had. It was hard to believe on principle.
Snape asked what thoughts was he concealing from his master?
Sirius shivered in disgust, as far as he was concerned, that officially meant Malfoy was a Death Eater. It was despicable, how this kids life was now ruined, just like his brothers.
Malfoy shouted back he wasn't keeping anything from him, just trying to make Snape butt out!
Harry pressed his ear still more closely against the keyhole. . . . What had happened to make Malfoy speak to Snape like this; Snape, toward whom he had always shown respect, even liking?
"Malfoy's gone off with an ego apparently," Remus muttered, it wouldn't surprise him if Malfoy now thought himself better than his old teacher and fellow Death Eater.
Snape said this was the reason he was being avoided this term then? Fearing his interference? If anyone else had ignored his summons to come to his office-
Malfoy jeered to give him a detention then.
Snape paused before saying he did not wish to do that.
"Wow, Snape can't even pretend to have control over this anymore," James muttered, his mind on that Unbreakable Vow Snape had made. What if he couldn't fulfill requirements outside of his control, what were the circumstances of it not being his fault?
Snape instead offered help, he'd made the Unbreakable Vow to do so.
Malfoy protested he didn't needed help, it was his job, it was just taking longer than he'd planned!
Harry pulled his fingers through his hair in frustration, some small part of him still wanting to cheer and jeer he'd been right and everyone else had been either downplaying, or completely ignoring his suspicions. The larger part of him was too hard to ignore, that feeling of dread, that whatever Malfoy was doing he wanted to prevent at all costs.
Snape insisted he was making foolish mistakes, wandering here after hours-
Malfoy said that wouldn't have happened if he hadn't put Crabbe and Goyle in detention!
"You mean he actually puts his own students in detention?" Sirius mock gasped while James pretended to faint in shock.
"Purely for motivational reasons I'm sure, he could dig through Crabbe and Goyle's mind instead to find out what they're doing with Malfoy," Remus said as he glared down at this.
"Yes, heavens forbid he not be bias for one moment," Lily scowled at the lot of them. As far as she was concerned, Snape was trying to help. Narcissa, Malfoy, even Dumbledore, if Draco was the one doing this, so why couldn't they just lay off him for one moment and listen.
Malfoy cut off none of that mattered! Besides, he had better people besides those two to help him.
Remus swallowed convulsively with worry, he still despised the idea of just what other help that was.
More Death Eaters, with much more knowledge of the castle? More horrible people, like his Aunt Bellatrix? Or some even more unspeakable, like a threat Malfoy had already used once, that Remus still feared to this day.
Malfoy knew exactly what was going on, Snape wanted to steal his glory!
"Wow, and this impertinent child is the one we're all so afraid of right now," Sirius snorted in disgust that could be on anyone's mind right now. Nothing about what was going on was glorious.
There was another pause, then Snape said coldly he was speaking like a child.
"Because he is," Lily sighed, still knowing that didn't excuse all that was being implied here.
It was understandable his father's imprisonment would-
Snape couldn't' get out another word, Harry had barely a second' s warning; he heard Malfoy's footsteps on the other side of the door and flung himself out of the way just as it burst open . Malfoy was striding away down the corridor, past the open door of Slughorn's office, around the distant corner, and out of sight. Hardly daring to breathe, Harry remained crouched down as Snape emerged slowly from the classroom. His expression unfathomable, he returned to the party. Harry remained on the floor, hidden beneath the cloak, his mind racing.
"With?" The others asked excitedly.
"I had my proof," Harry said quietly, finally settling his endless fidgeting now that such an important memory was returned and he could think again. "Malfoy's up to something, and I'm the only one that can stop it."
HPHPHPHP
This chapter right here really does prove my point about the second one being pointless. It's all repeat information now, what was the point of Spinner's End? Without that chapter, this would have been a much bigger reveal, as we wouldn't have even gotten confirmation until this point at half-way through the story something really was going on.
