Yuu walks into the Lounge to see Jade trying to manhandle a eel form Floyd as Azul stands nearby with a few buckets. They freeze when they see Yuu and Floyd scrambles out of Jade's hold and slithers over to Yuu to hide behind her. She gets a crash course in learning what Vil uses for his facial cream. Yuu gets Azul to give her the buckets, picks up Floyd, and says she'll be back.
Yuu returns with twice as many buckets, leaving Azul stunned and asking how she managed that.
"I just massaged him. No need for wringing him dry or anything. He had a lotta knots in his back."
Jade and Azul stare at her before Jade asks:
"...Can I be chosen next?"
Floyd ends up being very docile and out of it for the next few days.

Yet more gifts of Appalachian summer.
I've been on a mission to catalogue as many of Central Appalachia's summer wildflowers and berries as possible for an online project I'm starting up. Above is the haul from yesterday, including the stunning orange-fringed orchid (Platanthera ciliaris), a grand summer orchid of Appalachia's wet seeps and meadows. Downy rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens), another of our summer-blooming orchids, may not be quite as showy, but its intricately-patterned leaves are quite striking. Turk's-cap lily (Lilium superbum) is also in bloom in our local wet meadows and swamps. It's distinguished from its close cousin Canada lily by more strongly recurved petals and a green, star-like pattern in the center of its flowers. A single Turk's cap lily can produce dozens of flowers from its rangy stems. At home in moist woodland edges and streambanks, summer phlox (Phlox paniculata), sometimes also referred to as fall phlox and garden phlox, produces loads of gorgeous pink or white flowers from mid-July through September. Because this phlox is commonly planted in gardens nowadays, it's hard to know if plants in the wild are true natives or escapees.

Garter Snake - October 2024 I often try to get pictures of snakes if they are out on the bike path as I ride by. Garter snakes, though very small, are actually rather pretty. But they are fast, much faster than other, larger snakes. When I stop to take an image, they suddenly slither off into the grass and become basically invisible. This one, however, got caught by its own indecision. I stopped my bike and quickly walked back with my camera. He started to go for the grass, but I was on that side of the path, so he began to turn around, which is the first rather unusual image. I came up closer to him and he froze in place hoping I couldn’t see him. Then when I moved slightly to try to get an image from his front, he whipped back around and raced for the grass. I got one image of him as he started out (Image Two) and then a wide shot (Image Three) as he headed for the grass. Then he was gone. MWM

you know a trait I wish we would've gotten to see more of post recollection is Sneaky BastardTM wash who has a plan on top of the real plan and he doesn't tell anyone about said real plan until the last possible second, essentially forcing those around him to participate against their will in one way or another. get moved around like pawns on a chess board idiots.

Today's running trail...participant
was a tiny snake. I know some folks don't like snakes on their dash so it will be under the cut.

encountered a snake on our hike yesterday (it was holding so still we almost walked past right next to it without seeing it) and unfortunately I didn't get any pics because I didn't immediately recognize what kind it was and thought I'd play it safe by just moving along
looked it up when I got home and it was just a california kingsnake which are non-venomous and overall pretty chill and harmless as far as snakes go. I wouldve been fine to snap a picture at a respectul distance I think--it didnt seem bothered by us at all. very cute snake! big guy with black and white stripes and a charming little face
