Belt It Out: How to Choose the Right Belt for Any Outfit
Belt It Out: How to Choose the Right Belt for Any Outfit
When it comes to accessories, a belt is one of the most versatile and essential pieces in any wardrobe. It’s not just a functional item; it’s a statement-making accessory that can elevate your outfit instantly. However, choosing the right belt can sometimes be a bit tricky. The key lies in knowing how to select a belt that not only fits your waist but also complements your personal style, the occasion, and the overall look you're going for. Let’s dive into the art of choosing the perfect belt for any outfit.
1. Consider the Occasion
The first step in selecting the right belt is to consider where you're wearing it. A belt can play different roles depending on the setting:
- Casual Outfits: For everyday wear, choose a belt that’s comfortable and understated. Leather or woven belts with simple buckles work perfectly for casual looks. They add structure to your jeans or chinos without drawing too much attention.
- Work or Business Attire: When dressing for the office, opt for sleek, polished belts in neutral colors like black, brown, or navy. A leather belt with a simple, elegant buckle is the ideal choice for pairing with suits or dress pants. Avoid overly large or ornate buckles, as they can clash with the formal tone.
- Evening Wear: For a night out or formal occasions, a statement belt can enhance your outfit. Look for metallic finishes, embellished belts, or those with intricate designs. A chic, slim belt can cinch your waist and elevate a dress or jumpsuit, giving your ensemble a polished, elegant touch.
2. Match the Belt to Your Clothing
Your belt should complement the colors and textures of your outfit. Here are a few general tips:
- Neutral Colors: Black, brown, and tan belts are incredibly versatile and can be paired with most clothing items. They work well with both casual and formal outfits, making them a wardrobe staple.
- Statement Pieces: If you’re feeling bold, choose a belt that stands out with color or design. A brightly colored belt can add a fun pop to a neutral outfit, while a patterned or textured belt (such as snake print or studded designs) can serve as the focal point of a more minimalistic look.
- Materials Matter: Leather belts are timeless and work with almost anything, but fabric, woven, or canvas belts bring a more relaxed, casual vibe. Pair fabric belts with lighter fabrics like linen or cotton for a laid-back look, while leather belts exude sophistication and work well with structured pieces like blazers or tailored trousers.
3. Pay Attention to Fit and Comfort
A belt should fit comfortably around your waist without being too tight or too loose. Here’s how to ensure the right fit:
- Waist Measurement: Your belt should fit snugly around your waist or hips depending on where you wear it. When choosing a belt, go for one that’s about 2 inches longer than your waist size to allow room for adjustment. It’s better to have a belt that’s slightly longer than too short.
- Belt Width: The width of the belt plays a huge role in how it complements your outfit. Narrow belts are great for sleek, minimalistic outfits, while wider belts (typically 1.5 inches or more) are better suited for casual or statement-making looks. For formal wear, a thinner belt is often preferred.
- Comfort: While aesthetics are important, comfort should never be compromised. Make sure the belt is adjustable and provides enough room to move without being too restrictive.
4. Buckle Style: Keep It Simple or Bold?
The buckle can make or break the belt. Here are some things to consider:
- Classic Buckle: The classic belt buckle is simple, functional, and timeless. It’s a safe bet for almost any occasion, from business to casual. If you’re unsure, a belt with a small, metal buckle in silver or gold will never fail you.
- Statement Buckle: If you want to make a statement, go for a belt with a large, ornate buckle. This works especially well with casual or boho outfits where you want the belt to stand out as a feature. These belts can add drama and personality to simple outfits.
- Unique or Vintage Buckles: For those looking for something different, a belt with a vintage or unique buckle can be an eye-catching addition to your wardrobe. These often work best with casual, laid-back outfits that benefit from a touch of individuality.
5. Balance Proportions
When choosing a belt, balance the proportions of your outfit. A wide belt can emphasize curves and define your waistline, while a thinner belt works well for more subtle looks or when you're layering pieces. Consider the overall silhouette of your outfit—if you're wearing a voluminous top or dress, a wide belt will help to define your waist. On the other hand, a skinny belt works well with structured or more streamlined clothing.
6. Play with Trends
Belts, like any fashion accessory, come with trends, and incorporating them can be a fun way to update your look. Currently, oversized belts, western-inspired styles, and double-buckle designs are making waves. These modern twists on classic styles add a contemporary edge to outfits, whether you're wearing dresses, skirts, or pants.
Conclusion
Choosing the right belt for your outfit is all about understanding the occasion, pairing it with the right materials and colors, and ensuring comfort and fit. Whether you’re dressing for a casual day out, a formal business meeting, or a night of elegance, the right belt can pull your entire look together. A belt isn’t just an accessory; it’s an essential style tool that enhances your outfit and makes a powerful fashion statement. So, belt it out with confidence and let this accessory take your style to the next level!

Leather Belts
Introduction
The majority of individuals go for leather belts, while some people like synthetic or nylon belts better. Read on for a description of each style of belt and details on why leather is still regarded as the finest material for belts if you're unsure about what to buy.
What are Leather Belts?
A long, structured belt made of leather is used to hold up pants, skirts, and other clothing on the body. Belts are among the first accessories in human history, and bronze-age buckle remnants have been discovered.
Because it can withstand being twisted, folded, and tightened without suffering any harm, leather is the preferred material for belts. Genuine leather belts have the extra benefit of moulding to the wearer over time, providing a really comfortable, tailored fit. Although they're sometimes disregarded, belts are a fantastic way to add individuality to any ensemble without going overboard!
To make your look even more sophisticated and stylish, you should be carrying high-quality genuine leather bags.
Types of Leather Belts
On the Basis of Leather
Cowhide Leather Belts
The majority of leather belts are manufactured from cowhide, also known as bovine leather, which is taken from the skin of cows or calves. Belts made of calfskin are more attractive and considerably softer.
Bison, goats, and pigs may also produce leather, however, kidskin is mostly used for gloves, but pigskin is very soft, flexible, and not frequently used for belts.
Suede Belts
Suede is a delicate leather created from an animal's underbelly that often has a napped texture. The term "suede" refers to the leather's finish rather than its source; you may get suede from deer, pigskin, or even lambskin.
Suede belts should only be used occasionally for smart-casual attire since they are easily destroyed and require particular maintenance. Due to the thinness of suede, suede belts frequently have a layer of regular leather underneath the suede.
Exotic Leather Belts
These leathers have a distinctive and striking texture, either in the form of feather pockmarks or reptile scales. These belts make a statement.
Some are -
- Crocodile
- Snake
- Ostrich
- Lizard
On the Basis of Quality
Full Grain Belts
Full-grain leather is the best kind of leather for belts. Full-grain leather has visible grain, hair patterns, and other natural marks since it is made from the complete, undamaged surface of the hide. The layer of the hide that produces this leather is the strongest and most precious, and it receives less processing.
Full-grain leather belts are often wide and sturdy and may have distinctive markings or branding from the cow's skin. Due to this, full-grain leather belts are frequently worn for informal occasions.
Corrected Grain Belts
The second-best leather quality for belts is corrected grain. Buffing removes the flaws (distinctive marks) of full-grain leather to create corrected-grain leather, which is smooth. After that, the leather is polished and coloured.
This leather quality is used to make pricey, formal belts, which are worthwhile purchases for your outfit.
Bonded Belts
This leather, which is also known as leather fibre or reconstituted leather, is not created from rawhide but rather from layers of discarded leather pieces that have been bonded or glued together. Then, this cloth is either coated with a thin coating of top-grain leather or treated and printed to seem like high-quality leather.
Unfortunately, as long as the belt contains no fabric or synthetic material, bonded leather can still be marketed as "genuine leather." Any belt made of bonded leather will not survive very long because it is an inexpensive, low-quality leather. Bonded leather belts, on the other hand, are significantly less expensive and suited as one-season accessories rather than wardrobe investments.
Split Leather Belt
Split leather, which is significantly less expensive but of lower quality, is the third degree of leather quality. Although it is much weaker, this leather is frequently polished and embossed to resemble top-grain leather.
Synthetic Belt
The term "synthetic" denotes that these belts are composed of a synthetic material rather than genuine leather.
This fabric, which is also known as "fake leather" and "vegan leather," is typically used to provide the appearance of leather rather than to trick the consumer into believing it is leather.
Although significantly less expensive than real leather belts, synthetic leather belts are substantially less robust.
How long does it take a leather belt to break in?
Given that leather is a natural material, breaking it in will take some time. This is especially true if you've never worn your leather belt before and are doing so now. We would advise you to continue breaking in your new belt if you have never worn any type of leather clothing. You may do this by wearing it every day and moving about in it until it feels cosy enough to wear it every day.
Due to the superior materials used in their construction, more expensive belts may take significantly longer to produce than cheaper ones (like suede). It also relies on the kind of material that was utilised to create these items! Before choosing which one is ideal for YOU, watch out for internet evaluations since some individuals like softer straps while others prefer firmer ones.
Some of the best quality and stylish-looking belts are the Valencia belt, Cieza belt and Palma belt by Salamanca Leathers. They have many more designs and colour options available in premium-quality leather.

Aesthetics Ref - UF Bros
Nickname: Jasper (Underfell Sans)
Height: 4” taller than you (OR 5’3”)
Eye-lights: Candy-apple red (#FF0800)
Magic Specialty: Red, orange
Scars/distinguishing marks: Gold tooth (left canine), defensive scrapes and nicks on his forearms, two faint rings circling his cervical vertebrae
Preferred Style: Edgy (lazy) punk, his look is mostly crafted to make him look like more trouble to tangle with than he’s worth while also being comfortable. Tends to buy things a size or two bigger than he really needs and layer it to fit—it gives him extra bulk and if there were to be a fight, extra padding with the added benefit of maybe obscuring where exactly underneath those layers he is. Favors black and red, sometimes yellow and white; likes color-block, especially the angular kind, but only with two, at most three colors.
Outerwear: Fur-hooded bomber jacket; knit turtleneck sweaters (hand-knit, by…well that’s not important), they’re mostly just ribbed but there’s some cabled ones too
Top: T-shirts, solid colors and probably bought in a ten-pack; a few rare exceptions with color-block designs or angled lines
Bottom: Athletic shorts, a few joggers and track pants
Footwear: Basketball sneakers (please imagine the gaudiest black-red-yellow affairs you can and know that they are among his shoes somewhere, likely in the place of honor)
Trademark accessory/accessories: Almost a tie between his jacket and his gold tooth—the tooth wins by default because it never comes out, and it’s his personal favorite fashion statement by a mile anyhow
-
Nickname: Pyre (Underfell Papyrus)
Height: 1’4” taller than you (OR 6’3”)
Eye-lights: Crimson red (#990000)
Magic Specialty: Red, orange, yellow, blue
Scars/distinguishing marks: Three claw-marks over his left eye-socket, some defensive nicks on his forearms, heavy scarring on his ribs and sternum, one of his false ribs broken off halfway through
Preferred Style: Goth punk, so wholeheartedly, genuinely edgy that even if it shouldn’t, he just makes it work (…most of the time). He wants to look sleek and cool and badass at all times and fills his wardrobe with anything and everything he thinks will further that end. His closet is very full, and so is his wardrobe, and his dressers, but he culls the herd regularly and counts it as a win that he’s never at a loss for what to wear. Favors black and red, loves leather, spikes and studs, and of course, metallic foil.
Outerwear: Mostly biker jackets, some with spikes, some with studs, and a few plain just in case; does own a hoodie or two, but not the slovenly kind (look up ‘unique asymmetrical hoodie’ and the dealbola results are pretty much what he goes in for)
Top: Long-sleeved graphic shirts, the designs as Ed Hardy as you care to imagine (i.e., skulls, flames, snakes, roses, and so on); gold, silver, and red foil prints make up a large chunk, too, with a few nice button shirts (silk and satin) for special occasions
Bottom: Leather pants, of course, often with straps along the side of the leg or artfully placed buckles; some dark denim with strategic rips and tears, and a couple neatly pressed dress pants for when he might need to tone it down a little
Footwear: Almost entirely boots, ranging from shin to knee-height; buckles, studs, and skull motifs are common features, and while he has a few pairs with practical combat heels, he has a clear preference for stiletto-style
Trademark accessory/accessories: Tattered well-loved red scarf, it goes so well with most of his wardrobe that he rarely doesn’t have it on; he also has a lot of really cool belt buckles, mostly skull-themed, but he switches them out often and definitely does not have a favorite (yes he does, and it’s the one shaped like a ram skull)

I am real life obsessed with these Attico pants. I mean...just look at them; the color, the silhouette, the snake print...these pants are beautiful. These statement pants are the kind that you love so much that you want to wear them everyday...but styling them can present a challenge; I have created 8 different looks, for different occasions.
1. An effortless bruch look. Perfect for an afternoon catching up...and trying to sober up, from the night before. Pair the pants with an artsy graphic t-shirt, for a cute and comfy look. This look is completed with a chic slip on sandal and a gray blazer. An elevated casual look that puts comfort first.
2. An edgy casual look. Great for a night out, with bae; catching live music, a bite to eat, and a couple of drinks. It takes a bold person to mix patterns; I love the combination of camo with these pants. The camo jacket, layered over a black graphic hoodie creates a cohesive color scheme, set off by the pops of blue, with the pumps and handbag.
3. An edgy business chic look. Work wardrobes do NOT have to be boring. Swap the khaki slacks for a statement pant, like these; swap the traditional collared button down, for one with a round neck; trade your blazer, for a leather biker jacket, and complete the look with a printed pump. While your work day may not be the most exciting, your wardrobe can be everything but boring!
4. A casual weekend look. Weekends are supposed to be meant for taking a break and relaxing, but we all know that weekends are usually spent trying to handle all of the things that we weren’t able to get to, during the week. From grocery shopping and hair appointments, to checking in on family and having a couple drinks with friends, this effortless look will transition well. You can never go wrong with a graphic t-shirt [the only Christopher we aknowledge is Wallace] and denim jacket. Completed the look with a white mule, instead of sneakers, to complete the look on a chic note.
5. A simple everyday look. Whether it’s for class or a casual day at work, this look is perfect. Stripes are a fun way to add color, to any look. The denim jacket is a staple wardrobe piece; but the details of this one, the hood and the pockets, instantly elevate it to a statement piece. This look, completed with beanie and chunky hybrid sneaker, is set off by a swanky pair of statement earrings.
6. A casual day off look. Those days when class is cancelled at the last minute, or you just decide to take a personal day, are some of the best. You get to sleep in, grab a bite at your favorite place (without having to wait), maybe taking care of somethings so you can enjoy your free time on the weekends...there are endless possibilities. This look is perfect for whatever you decide to do. A simple casual look, that still makes a fashion statement. A graphic tee and sneakers, keep it comfortable, while the clutch adds some fun. It’s always a good idea to have a removable 3rd piece, just in case it gets a bit cool...or warms up. This color block puffer jacket is the perfect mix of fun and fashion.
7. An eclectic look. This look is perfect for a night out, with the girls...when you want to dress up, but don’t feel like wearing heels. Layer a corset over a t-shirt to accenuate your waistline. The pink mohair coat adds a touch of glamour to the look and the yellow boots are a funky way to complete the look. Playing with colors, patterns, and textures are a sure way to create unforgettable looks, for any occasion.
8. A fun party look. As someone who has been quarantined, since March, I am looking forward to the late nights that turn into early mornings. There’s nothing like dancing the night away, with some of your favorite people, then staggering to nearest pizza joint or late night restaurant. The tie dye graphic tee paired with the bright orange suede biker jacket create a fun and functional look. Just in case you get a bit carried away, on the dance floor, you can remove the jacket and continue to dance the night away. The black bootie and embellished hat box handbag are classic pieces, with a bit of a modern twist, to complete the look.

Ever since the utility overall was celebrated, the fashion scene has been focusing specifically on elements from the handicraft sector in the world of work. Now, in 2020, military detail will be added. This trend is reflected in masculine cuts, exposed pockets and workwear details. The colours are supported by beige, brown and olive and you can wear boots and tool belts.
7. High-necked dresses
It always looks elegant and feminine, so it's super easy to quickly create a chic look with the dresses. Just take your new favorites dress out of the wardrobe, combine them with boots with block heels and your outfit with wow-effect is ready. The high-necked dresses are convincing in every situation and now they are also available in patterns, animal print and plain colored models can decide.
8. 80s disco & retro trend
The fact that the wild eighties as well as hip 60's and 70's prints are fashionably on the advance can no longer be overlooked. Blazers with strong shoulders, platform boots and vinyl were just the beginning: sparkling jumpsuits, glitter ball sequins, shimmering fringes and an extra portion of rhinestones bring back the party culture of the eighties.
9. Crochet trend
An unexpected trend: dresses that look as if they were handmade. Some of the most stylish designs are thus presented on the catwalk. In the coming season, it is popular to wear clothes made of crocheted yarn. Can also be worn perfectly for the beach.

Chapter I: Building Blocks
I sit alone in my room, staring at my wall from atop my bed. I feel nothing inside. Not sad. Not angry. Just empty. Almost like I have been hollowed out. Outside my room, I can hear the branches of a tree scratch at the windows. I turn to look out the window, to see what the world has to offer. All I see are the dead leaves of autumn and an unchanging grey sky. Beyond that cursed tree, the forest beckons to me. Come. What keeps you in that house? Nothing is keeping you there. Come walk under my boughs.
I shake my head. That voice still hasn’t stopped. I’ve tried to get rid of it, but it always comes back. Again and again. She tells me to leave the brick walls around this house. To explore the world outside my little box. I sometimes find my hand on the lock on the front gate. But I never open it. The forest is too dark and I know what happens when I leave the walls. In my little house, I am safe and no one can find me.
A bell rings out. One, two, three, four, five, six. I wander down from my room, passing Several doors. These rooms and whatever memories lay inside are locked up. Why? Honestly I have no idea, but he told me that the people who used to live there went beyond the walls. He was so happy when I arrived. He was so lonely, sitting in this house with locked doors.
______________________________________________________________________
In the kitchen, I cut two slices of bread and grab a chunk of cheese from a basket. I know that it’s not a lot, but I have a limited amount of food. I find more bread and cheese on my doorstep after every new moon. Within my brick walls, an apple tree grows and right next to it tomatoes, peppers and various herbs flourish. Though to be honest, I’ve lost track of the time. Days bleed into weeks, weeks bleed into months, months bleed into years. Not that I really care. No one can hurt me here in my box.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. I retreat to my sanctuary, but instead I find my hand on his door’s handle. This always happens. I’ve tried to stop, but after seven bells, I walk to his room and sit on his armchair. He used to read to me after seven bells. Bookshelves lined three of his walls, his bed tucked into a corner between the window and the fourth wall. I know that soon his door will not open for me. He told me that after people leave this house, their rooms just lock one day and can never be opened again.
______________________________________________________________________
Something wakes me up. I jolt up from my place on the armchair and move to the door. I have no idea what it was and I know that I should be scared, but I am not. It almost feels like another person is here. Is someone here? No. That can’t be. I’m perfectly fine sitting in my box, with no one to disturb me, no one to bother me. I hear a knocking at the door. Not my door, but the one that leads up the stairs. Silently, I creep out of his room, leaving the armchair and books behind, and into my room. I hear the door at the base of the stairs creak open and a pair of light footsteps walk up. Why is there a person here? The forest should’ve stopped them. The gate should be closed. But it isn’t. Why don’t you go outside and see where this person came from? Go outside and walk alongside me. Her voice floats around inside my mind. Before she say anything else, I bring my attention back to the person walking ever closer to me. The lack of slammed doors or heavy steps tells me that this intruder is timid and most likely scared. I smile, and it is a crooked, twisted thing.
I grab my black coat and hide my white braid in the folds of the hood. What fun. I haven’t done anything like this in a very long time. That empty place in my chest throbs in remembrance. We used to play long games of hide and seek, and I would always to sneak up on him. I rarely succeeded, but then again, nothing ever surprised him. The footsteps stop in front of my room and I hide in the shadows of the wardrobe. The doorknob turns slowly, squeaking as whoever is on the other side struggles to open the door. How amusing. Everything in this house is old and the doors do get stuck, but with time they do open. And as the person does finally open it, they fall into my sanctuary.
The figure sprawled on my floor is a child. A small boy in a long, white nightgown quickly sits up, swinging his head around wildly, looking for something. He is covered in small cuts and bruises and his nightgown is torn at the bottom. As he stands up, I notice that he has no shoes and his feet are cut and bloody. He does not stay up for long. The little boy in white drops to the floor again, this time in a faint.
I rush out of the shadows to help him and something around the boy’s neck catches my eye. On a thin silver chain, a metal dragon hangs. Go ahead. Ask him where he got it. It is from the outside. Her voice is like a snake, slithering her way into my head. Once more, I shake my head. This unconscious boy needs help more than I need answers. I pick him up and move him to my friend’s room.
As I close that room’s door, I reach for my pendent. It is tucked into my loose, black shirt. At the end of a worn ribbon, a twin dragon hangs.
______________________________________________________________________
“Hey, Big Sister?” A light tap on my shoulder wakes me. Looking down on me, the little boy pokes my head. “Do you have food? I’m really hungry.”
I slowly stand up from my chair, blanket pooling on the floor. Stretching outward, a yawn escapes me. I look to the boy, and his green eyes stare right back. As I offer my hand to him I notice that his cuts have scabbed over and begun to heal. “How about after we eat I heat up some water so you can clean up? I think I have some clothes that you can wear.” The boy grins and shakes his head up and down.
A loaf of bread later, I have a pot of hot water heating up in the fireplace. The boy is splashing around in the metal tub in the kitchen corner. He looks about nine, but I have been alone so long that I have no idea. He kinda reminds me of myself when I first came to the house. I don’t remember much, but I know that I was small and cheerful. A dull ache in my chest brings me back to the present. Now is not the time to remember the past.
“These fit perfectly!” The boy dances around in his new pants and shirt, spinning in circles. “Can I stay in this room? I tried to open the other doors, but they wouldn’t open.”
“Of course,” I laugh as he trips on a book and falls in a heap on the floor. “There used to be others who lived here, many years ago. But they left and their door locked forever.” I look to the window, at the grey sky and dark forest beyond.
One, two, three. The bell rings, reverberating throughout the house. The boy looks to me, eyes full of curiosity. “Whose room was this? Where did he go?”
“He was like a brother to me. I don’t remember his name. I’m not sure that he remembered it.”
“And where did he go?”
“Outside the walls. I don’t know what drove him. One day he was here, the next I was alone in this house.” I smile. “But now you’re here, I am not alone.”
“What should I call you?” He holds out his hand. “My name is Al. I think it’s short for something, but I’m not sure…” Al looks down and scrunches up his face, as if trying to remember something.
“My name…” I have to pause for a moment before remembering it. “Mar. My name is Mar.” And I shake his hand.
______________________________________________________________________
And so time passes. I read to Al in his room and he helps me take care of the garden. It’s peaceful. She doesn’t bother me as much, but I am curious why Al came to me. Ask him. What’s stopping you? Are you scared, or perhaps you know why? When She does talk to me, it’s the same three things. Go outside. Ask him. Are you scared? I ignore her whispers.
One day I’m picking tomatoes from the garden
“Why is that tree so dark? Is it dead?
“I don’t know. I hate being near it.”
Al looks at me. “I feel like it pulls me in. Like I should be there.” He shifts on his feet. Back and forth. Back and forth. I don’t blame him. I used to feel the tree’s pull. Still do. But something about the strangeness of it all keeps me away.
______________________________________________________________________
One day, while Al is out in the garden, I decide to reorganize the bookshelves. It had been awhile since I had done anything with the room, so…
I open the door, and stare at the mess on the desk. How did Al manage to find anything on it? A corner of a book I had never seen stuck up from the scrap heap. I dig the journal out of the pile of papers. The cover is made of fading leather and the pages are yellow with age. Flipping through the pages, I notice that the entries switch between a childish scrawl, a blocky print and finally a fine script. Something green catches my eye. A sketch of a young girl fills the entire page. Her piercing green eyes stare me down. A long black braid drapes down her shoulders and around her neck, on a ribbon, hangs a small dragon.
I read the entry that goes with the drawing. The writing was worn and I could only read a few lines.
… Maria’s hair is turning more and more white over the past month. Soon it will be completely white. Like mine.
His hair was white before he left. Mine had been white for some time. I read on.
She has mentioned a voice that lives in her head. Just like HIM. Maria’s voice tells her to go outside the walls. She really shouldn’t. Don’t go beyond the walls. They are waiting out there. Waiting for one of us to make a mistake.
More entries fill the pages. More drawings of the same girl. Countless words filled with fear. It was a cycle. First the child, then the school boy and finally the man. But then to childness again. As a child, he went on and on about a young woman with white hair and green eyes. As a boy, he wrote about the voice in his head, always telling him to go outside the brick walls. As a young man, he described a girl who ran from the forest with a dragon necklace identical to his.
A folded piece of paper falls from the book and onto the desk. My hands tremble as I open it. And I let it fall once again and leave it there. I quickly back out of the room, and even after I close the door, I can still feel my friend’s eyes staring at me.
______________________________________________________________________
I need to know. I cannot go on not knowing. He heard voices. Why were there so many entries in that book that just repeated themselves? Why am I trapped like this? The walls of the house threaten to smother me. Then come join me. Why hide in that box? Outside the walls, I have answers. The blackened tree outside my window taps on the glass, practically asking to be let in. The grey sky promises rain. Maybe I should go out. No. I will go out and walk under the trees.
I leave behind a note for Al. The house is silent, almost like it is holding its breath. As I close the front door, I look up and a pair of green eyes stare at me from the upper floor. I pretend to have not noticed and move on to the gate. The only break in the brick wall that has kept me in. A simple wooden door. I hesitate. Why do you stop? Don’t you want answers? Only a few more steps and you will know everything. Come on. It’s quite easy. Something in her voice changed. Her tone … it seems almost childish. I lift the latch on the door and step out into the forest.
______________________________________________________________________
Finally, I can speak to you. See how beautiful it is out here? The forest is dark and full of shadows. I guess it is beautiful in a twisted way. You must be wondering who I am? Honestly I have no idea. I have been called many things over the years. Demon. Spirit. Witch. I am lost and I only want to help others who are lost. Follow the white stones. Follow them. Her voice drones on and on. I continue deeper into the trees.
I trip over a root hidden by dead leaves. Her voice is gone. It is so dark here. The sun set long ago. I dropped my bag when I fell and its contents lay beside one of the white stones. As I pick my things up, the strap snags on the stone, pulling it from the ground. But it is not a stone. A long, white bone dangles from my bag. I don’t think, I just run.
Bones. I’ve been following bones this entire time. Chills run up and down my body. I dodge branches and roots as I race down the path of the dead.
An ache in my chest grows. It feels like I’m slowly being stabbed with a dull knife. It only gets worse as I move closer to the end of the path. But I want answers.
______________________________________________________________________
I arrive at a metal gate. The color has long since faded away, only rusting, rotting metal showing. Weeds and vines cover what’s left of the gate door. Wet leaves blanket the ground, a dead carpet. Just beyond, a house looms. Or what remains of one. It burned in a fire many years ago. Her voice comes as a surprise. How many hours has it been since she left me? Answers lay inside. I push the gate open, rust flaking off in my hand. Wiping my hand on my pant leg, I then reach out to push what’s left of the front door open. More weeds and grass are inside, growing up from the floorboards. This place must’ve been empty for years. How observant. Yes it’s been a hundred or so years since it burned. I walk into a large room with the skeleton of a chimney. The second floor is almost completely burned away. Only the support beams remain.
The light of the full moon slips through the charred boards. Something in the doorway catches my eye. Careful not to fall through the floor, I make my way across the room. Whatever it is, it is small and shines dully. Just before I reach it, the boards beneath my feet snap and I fall face first on the stone floor of another room. I see red. Blood. It’s from my nose. I wipe it on my sleeve and move to pick up what had caught my eye. It was a tarnished piece of metal. Or to be more exact, a metal dragon. I run from the burned kitchen and barely make it outside before the memories hit me like a wave.
My knees give out and I crumple to the ground. What I did then… it was inhuman. What was I thinking? Leaving Alex back there in the burning room. Why did I run? I should’ve tried to help him. I should’ve pulled him from the flames. I should’ve… But you didn’t. You left your brother to die in the fire. You could’ve helped him.
Her voice is like a drum in my head, a steady, monotonous beat that tortures me. I remember it all. The smoke and fire from that night. I ran from the burning house, but I did not make it far. Only to the tree in the yard outside my window. Alex never made it past the front door. I know that he did not try to help me out of the inferno, but I was his older sister and it was my job to protect him. I put my hand on the tree where I died, the blackened trunk rough beneath my palm.
Another sudden pain in my chest sends me to the ground again. And I stay down. Something grabs my arm, but I cannot fight it. Roots and branches pull me into the tree’s dark depths. I can see nothing, but her voice is here. See the red? That’s me. I’ve been waiting so long to be reunited. At long last, my heart is returned to me. And my eyes close.
______________________________________________________________________
I claw my way out of the tree, its burnt bark giving way under my small hand. Was I sleeping in the tree? What happened? I can’t remember anything. I try to pull myself out of the tree, but my long hair gets stuck. I struggle to free it, and eventually I do. It’s getting dark. A burned house sits behind me and my tree. RUN. Flee from this place. A female voice shouts out from the tree.
And I run.
And run,
And run,
And run.
Past the rotting iron gate. Through the trees and their dead fingers grabbing at my heels. I trip over roots hidden by wet, dead leaves. The grey sky above turns to a darker grey. My chest feels too light. Something is missing. My foot snags on a rock and I go down. Don’t stop. Keep running. So I move deeper into the forest.
And I run
And run,
And run,
And run.
The moon filters through the branches. It’s completely dark now, and I can barely see a path of white stones. I just follow them. They have to lead somewhere. On and on I scamper, over roots and rocks. I slip on wet leaves and my dress is ripped by dead bushes. Her warning rings in my head. Run.
And I run.
And run,
And run,
I reach a brick wall covered with vines. A wooden door with a metal latch. A stone path up to another door. I creep up stairs and open a door. Inside, a young man with white hair sits at a desk.

Learning about what the latest fall boot trends are is nothing compared to learning how to style them. We never want you to think Platform boots are trending—now what? For that very reason, we snatched up all the popular and stylish celebrities who are wearing this season's hottest fall boot trends the right way. Seeing these trends in action will hopefully encourage you to stop starring and start shopping because the boots ahead need a home, and we think your closet is just the spot. Below you will see seven popular fall boot trends that celebrities have taken a particular liking to this season, in addition to the 14 inventive ways they are taking each trend and making it their own. Style types of all kinds are represented here thanks to the notable array of women partaking in all the fresh new styles this season has to offer. The new styles ahead are the boots everyone will be wearing after reading this story—including you. Nothing makes a pair of knee-high boots look chicer than a short suit. Be it a miniskirt or shorts variation, this boot trend is one that will always look good with the tailored duo. On Kaia Gerber: Jimmy Choo Madeline Shoulder Bag and Tempe 85 Boots ($1195) In case you're in the mood to not wear pants, throw on an oversize white T-shirt and knee-high boots to match. A leather blazer as the finishing touch is just the thing this outfit needs to not look, well, unkempt. On Hailey Bieber: Celine sunglasses; Jennifer Fisher Maeve Hoops ($750); J Brand Elsa Birthday Blazer ($1298); MM6 Maison Margiela Inside Out Logo T-Shirt ($225); Jacquemus Les Bottes Pantalon Leather Boots ($1279) This season, the chunkier the boot, the better. Take note from Dua and jazz up your favorite pair of denim via a statement top and these extra-large soles. On Dua Lipa: Jacquemus top Fall dresses are the biggest beneficiary of this shoe trend. The juxtaposition of the harsh lug-soles with a more delicate frock creates a seasonal outfit that will win every time. On Olivia Palermo: Dior dress and J’adior Ultra Bag; Gianvito Rossi Marsden Boots ($1195) This fall, please don't forget about color—just because it's getting colder doesn't mean your wardrobes color palette has to as well. Contrast hues starting with a statement slouchy boot and a bold dress to match. On Adwoa Aboah: Balenciaga Block-Heel Checked-Wool Boots ($875) Or, on the other hand, go for a head-to-toe tonal look and call it a day. We recommend this styling trick for those days when you just can't and need a cute 'fit quick. On Margot Robbie: Mille The Jasmine Dress in Almond ($236); Loeffler Randall Gia Tall Boots in Cognac ($695); Inne Sia Shopper Tote ($209) Your going-out boots should not be the same as your daytime boots. You deserve to dress up a bit and platform boots are the best boot trend to do so with. Take inspiration from Zendaya and grab a slip dress, a leather trench, and your tallest platforms for your next night on the town. On Zendaya Coleman: Fallon Versailles Chandelier Earrings ($465) While not everyone can snatch up a full look from the newest Gucci collection, everyone can rock a fun printed dress and platform boots. And that's the tea. On Sienna Miller: Gucci Spring 2020 Look 87 Feeling sporty? Good. Because Bella Hadid has officially inspired us to locate a racing jacket and buy it ASAP. The square-toe boots add just the fashion-girl touch this outfit needs. So get some of those too. On Bella Hadid: Dior sunglasses; Ralph Lauren jacket; Courreges Jersey Top ($285); Wandler Isa Long Boots ($860) If you're still a little nervous to dive into a prominent square toe, go for a more subtle one and pair the boots with timeless counterparts like a blazer dress and clutch. On Kendall Jenner: DKNY Ebony Mesh Camera Bag ($79) Get really wild and match your snake-print shoes to your handbag and get ready for all the compliments to roll in. On Gigi Hadid: Anita Ko Hepburn Necklace ($22,050); Coperni Shirt Dress ($654); Jimmy Choo Maxima Boots ($1575); Staud Moon Bag Carmel Snake ($325) No one does print mixing like Anna does print mixing, and her famous snakeskin boots are her pretty much her secret weapon to achieving a balanced look every time. If you live in skinny jeans, copy this EmrRata look this fall. A croc-embossed boot will bring a strong texture to an otherwise basic look. On Emily Ratajkowski: Zara Double Breasted Blazer ($119); Inamorata Beverly Bodysuit ($54); Citizens of Humanity jeans; Carolina Santo Domingo Micro Sofia Leather Crossbody ($630); Schutz Maryana Boots ($290) This model-off-duty look is so easy to re-create, and we're pretty sure you can do it with the contents of your own closet sans maybe the new croc boots you're about to buy below. On Martha Hunt: Schutz Maryana Boots ($290) Next up, shop eight shoe trends everyone will buy in 2020.

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE - 2018 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
It feels like it’s been this side of an eternity since I made a predictions post, so forgive me if I’m rusty. I also definitely feel heading into tomorrow’s ceremony that we’re going in rather blind. Taylor’s style has been a bit all over the place (sometimes urban and distressed, sometimes rainbows and embellishment, sometimes head-to-toe Madewell).
While Taylor’s performance is completely confirmed, I’m also suspicious that she may skip the red carpet entirely. Both in order to prepare for her show opening performance and also because Taylor has been very red carpet-shy all era and avoiding the red carpet would mean only her performance would speak for her that night (i.e. “There will be no explanation ...”)
With that said, here are my choices. Which certainly reflect that all over nature and unpredictability (I hope) that Taylor’s fashion has been. Here we go!
Off White Spring 2019 If this outfit were to be worn by Taylor, I would see a different blazer but in a similar silhouette. The stand out here, obviously, are the snake skin pants. This is also one instance where I wouldn’t mind seeing the runway styling replicated. Those shoes are killer. But these Giuseppe Zanotti snake ankle wrap heels wouldn’t be remiss either. I also only last minute noticed the model (pure coincidence) when I made this select. But a happy accident that it’s Tay’s friend Karlie Kloss.
Elie Saab Spring 2019 I typically avoid including Elie Saab in my predictions posts, though I know the brand is a fan favourite to see Taylor wear. With that, though, I couldn’t help but see how this colourful and bold striped gown by Elie Saab echoes the various rainbow patterns she’s worn throughout this era. While of course black, green, distressing, and snake print are all prominent themes in Taylor’s wardrobe for reputation I love that we have bright rainbow patterns that counteract all that darkness. On Taylor’s huge night and a major return to the awards circuit, what better way to make that mark than with a burst of colour?
Valentino Fall 2018 Couture The entire inspiration for this look is the line: “They’re burning all the witches ... so light me up”. The colour, the lines, the mermaid silhouette — Taylor would look like an elegant, raging fireball in this gown. A very dramatic burnt orange/terracotta and eyeliner cat eye would be a great way to style this look.
Brandon Maxwell Fall 2018 Because I can’t resist a cape moment. This look is elegance and maturity personified. I feel it will nicely compliment what I’m sure will be a black, glittering custom performance piece by Jessica Jones that Taylor will likely wear.
For fun, these were my back ups: Alexis Mabille Fall 2018 Couture lace jumpsuit, Miu Miu Spring 2019 leather coat dress, Rosie Assoulin Fall 2018 cut out flounce gown.
Which of my predictions is your favourite? Do you have any picks of your own?
— Taylor wore a galactic disco Balmain mini.
