Apple to Launch Smart Doorbell with Face ID by 2025

Apple is reportedly preparing to make a significant entry into the smart home market with its first smart doorbell, featuring Face ID support, set to debut in late 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this innovative device will use Face ID scans to automatically unlock doors, offering a seamless and secure experience for homeowners.

A standout feature of the device is its reliance on Apple’s newly developed Proxima wireless networking chip. This chip ensures that all Face ID-related images are processed locally on the doorbell itself, prioritizing user privacy. Additionally, the device will back up data to iCloud, potentially boosting Apple’s subscription service revenue.

It is unclear whether Apple plans to release its own smart-lock system alongside the doorbell or collaborate with third-party HomeKit-compatible smart locks. The device is expected to adopt the Thread smart home standard, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of existing smart home devices.
