On the 23rd of September, twenty-five years ago, The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest was released for the Neo Geo AES (as The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends in Japan).
It was advertised by SNK as a "special edition" of the series, as it featured most of the characters who appeared in the previous games (from KOF '94 to '97).

something about dnd that bg3 has really managed to capture is the absolutely wild and lightning-fast shift between having a fun silly old time and slamming into defcon one because you're about to fucking die.
for instance: right before the party sequence, i decided to go for a wander and do some sidequests before continuing with the campaign, having assassinated all three of the goblin's bosses and not yet expended all of my resources. i decided to burn my last short rest and fast travel to the closest teleportation circle to my destination, which happened to be in the goblin stronghold. it did not cross my mind that the fact that i had literally just murdered all three of the goblins' bosses might have made the goblins a wee bit mad at me.
me: heehoo fun old time party tonight, just gotta run some errands first!
the entire goblin market:
me: Oh Kay! Mistakes were made, but I can still make it through this probably! I've just gotta get back to the Teleportation Circle... which can't be used in combat. Welp, fuck it, we ball! Karlach's on her last Rage, so I've gotta keep her in melee, which shouldn't be a problem. Her Berzerker ability to physically pick up and toss motherfuckers out of opportunity attack range twice on her turn has never been more useful. Sanctuary on both of the Clerics, if they go down that's all she wrote, they have way too few spell slots left so I'll have to make each one count. Thankfully I made Tav a Life Cleric, so they have their Channel Divinity in addition to spells. I had been mildly regretting my decision to multiclass Shadowheart into Oath of Ancients Paladin, but as it turns out that decision is about to save literally everyone, since she still has her own Channel Divinity, her Lay On Hands pool, and the Protection fighting style, which thank the fucking stars doesn't count as an aggressive action that would dispel her Sanctuary. Keeping her in arm's reach of my two bruisers so she can deflect a few hits. Two of the Battlemaster manoevers I gave Lae'zel are completely useless here, as I can't afford to waste actions or Superiority Dice, but the Rally bonus action is going to be absolutely clutch, especially on Karlach, who's the only other non-Sanctuaried target right now - giving her one hit point is like giving anyone else two. Her Sentinel feat is also going to be a game changer here, as it allows her to get a second hit in each round as only a fourth-level Fighter. Okay, I need to get the hell out of this corner. The only spot relatively in reach is up this wall to the left, maybe get a little bit of cover-
#astonishingly i did actually survive though!#it was an eighteen round knock down drag out slugfest but nobody even had to be revivified!#honestly the most engaged i've been in a video game in A While#this situation perfectly managed to grab my hyperfixation by the hair and say 'strategise for your goddamn life'#bg3#baldur's gate 3

Humans are weird: Ramming Speed
( Please come see me on my new patreon and support me for early access to stories and personal story requests :D https://www.patreon.com/NiqhtLord Every bit helps)
The idea of ramming space ships into each other as a form of combat maneuver was beyond many galactic military minds comprehension.
A single spacecraft, let alone a military grade class vessel, would cost up in the billions of credits. Entire galactic economies had nearly bankrupted themselves trying to maintain a fleet large enough to secure their borders, so in turn each military ship became an asset not to be squandered lightly.
Perhaps it was this conservative mindset that nearly shattered when these powers first looked upon the Terran ship codenamed “The Ram”.
Unlike other modern vessels the ships of this new classification lacked all weapon emplacements. No energy cannons, missile launchers, rail guns; it was entirely free of weapons. What it did have was excessive amounts of armor plating, several separate shield generators, and a pair of overly powerful engines that could reach max speed in roughly five minutes.
The first time it was observed in combat was during the Terran/Crux war. Both powers had sizable fleets at their disposal and for the first couple months the two powers played cat and mouse games between each other; each trying to find a more advantageous position to commit their forces. Much to the dismay of both powers the first large scale battle was triggered by mere chance than a tactical decision.
A Crux patrol stumbled upon a Terran patrol emerging from a dense nebula in the Viper System. Both patrols requested reinforcements. Nearby patrols were soon diverted to the engagement and within short order what was a small skirmish ballooned into a full scale battle.
There were no battle lines or frontlines as ships opened fire at near point blank range with each other. Even when higher rank Admirals arrived to take charge both sides were too embroiled in the slugfest to make any more nuanced tactical moves without exposing themselves to the enemy.
It was here that the Ram emerged and showed its prowess.
Crux warship crews were not trained on how to handle enemy vessels rushing towards them. What’s more several gun crews became panicked when they saw the Ram ships rushing headlong towards them without diverting course.
With the extra armor and shielding the Terran ships not only struck head on into Crux ships but emerged from the attack relatively unscathed. In most cases the prow of the Ram ships punched clean through the entire hull of the Crux warship and emerged through the other side.
The Crux fleet desperately tried to regain order and form battle lines but each time they did so the Ram ships would plunge head first into their formation and take out the command ship coordinating the effort.
As more and more Terran ships arrived and formed their own battle lines the tide of battle soon drastically changed. After thirteen hours of intense fighting the last of the Crux fleet withdrew from the battle leaving the Terrans the victors.
A full fifth of the Crux navy was lost during the battle with the Ram ships having personally claimed 45% of the kills.
While the war itself would continue for another two years, the Ram ships and their unorthodox tactics had earned them a modicum of respect from the wider galaxy, and a great measure of fear from the Crux.

Reverse twinks? Whales?
#im thinking specifically war thunder#a big issue is beginners buying top tier premium vehicles to get to the “more fun” modern stuff faster#since if youre playing for free unless you hyper focus on one country only you can easily go 3k+ hours without getting to top tier#but the problem is that despite Gaijin's dogass balancing one thing they do right is slowly introducing new things to pay attention to#little 1.0 BR paper mache tanks are all made with armor and ammo that usually means newbies can just drive into slugfests and have fun#by 2.7 you learn sbout scouting and by about 3.0 you learn about armor and aiming for weak spots#by 3.7ish you start seeing a bigger variety in tanks. now you can meet both speedy and weakly armored tanks or big hulking armored beasts#skipping ahead a bit. by 7.7 you start having more significant decision making on ammo (“just pick APHE” is no longer the universal truth)#by 8.3 you start seeing this combined with other aspects like you cant use HEAT against tanks with ERA for instance#you also start fucking around with scout drones#this is just ground v ground you also have a fuck tonne of shit in regards to air v air and ground v air bc the “tank mode”... isn't that#also NVG and thermals. laser rangefinders. even fuckier armor layouts. SPAAs that basically work as TDs. missiles. new ammo types.#new engagement logic. new strategies. fucking uhhh dozer blades (you can dig holes now) etc.#so new players joining top tier right away just have to deal with a fucktonne of shit and countless buttons and they cant even do damage#bc they dont have a clue about where to even shoot#and often they only have the one vehicle so ofter they die once or twice (if they use a backup) they leave - typically though only once bc#they have this stupid idea of it not being worth it to stick around but they have no clue how the economy works so theyre just wrong#so yeah top tier is plagued by teams upon teams of noobs with top tier premiums who have exactly 1 idea about how the game works#and thats “shoot tanks”#like for context i got like 3k hours and after those 3k i was frustrated about how fsr behind my air tree is (7.7 ground 6.0 air barely)#so i bought a plane and later a tank and even after 3k hours the jump from 7.7 to 10.0 on ground (or 6.0 to 9.7 for air) was awful#ramblings of a madman

I wonder if Melinoe manages to wake up Hypnos, it could unlock a new game mode for Hades 2. Maybe Hypnos can bring Chronos and Melinoe into his sleep domain. Chronos may be able to control time, but sleep logic turns time... wonky.
I'm sure plenty of us have had dreams where it felt like you spent 2 weeks in there and but you were only asleep for like 15 minutes. Same goes for when you go through 6 hours' worth of sleep that feels like it passed in an instance.
Chronos still has his time powers in Hypnos' domain, but he's not in complete control. This can make defeating Chronos both easier and harder because Chronos is NOT in control. In exchange for a fight where Chronos can't reverse time on you at the end when you defeat him, you could end up repeating specific phases of the same fight possibly all the way back to the beginning for the chance to really damage Chronos.
Hypnos' domain would be a gamble for the skilled and the lucky because there's a good chance it could devolve into a disorienting slugfest.
#hades 2#melinoe#hypnos hades#hades hypnos#chronos#chronos hades#hades chronos#i see hypnos' sleep powers as an opportunity to play around with concepts like time#because sleep can make people experience time in a nonlinear fashion#so it'd be cool to see how it applies to someonw who literally controls time#also i think it'd be a funky new challenge mode#but i don't make video games so maybe none of this makes sense

Here's a Raven!
It's Probably one of my fave light mechs, although I prefer using the Raven X variant, because it has two X-Pulse lasers and an MRM-20 with Apollo FCS. It also has a Bloodhound Active Probe and a Angel ECM Suite, which means it's pretty good at interrupting C3 Networks.
My favorite moment was using it to completely destroy a Celerity-XD through the side torso. I had twelves to hit with all the weapons because the Celerity had just run all the way across the map. I managed to miss with both X-Pulse lasers, but hit with the MRM-20, and got very lucky with the cluster rolls, perfectly killing the Celerity's side torso.
I still managed to lose that game though, because the WoB Timber Wolf and the WoB Perseus are one hell of a combo, and I didn't really have any mechs that could withstand a C3i 2v2 slugfest with both still left on the table.

Taught my roommate how to play Dragon Rampant last night! Dwarves vs undead, a real slugfest and down to the wire, but eventually his heavy cavalry were able to secure the evil Litch's phylactery and return it to its resting place within the ancient necropolis of White Mountain. (Mole of Ukkert scenario, which reskinned beautifully for this game.)
The undead rule of rounding up hits was very neatly cancelled out here by the fact that the undead have courage 0, his skeletons stayed up until it was time for them to rout, while my dwarves took a frankly embarrassing number of Battered markers. His Litch was a unit of heavy missiles with Enchanted weapons, which he did succeed the roll for, presumably with his phylactery under threat the evil lord of the dead was bringing his A game, and it did make a difference, hitting on 4s and rerolling misses meant his spells were truly fearsome. Since we were playing on the kitchen table which is like 5.5'x3.25' we reduced the distance between units to 1" and also we houseruled that you can ignore your first failed activation roll of the turn, which is a rule I've had recommended to me by knowledgeable friends and has proven quite a good one. Overall it was an excellent teaching game. Evenly matched, fairly diverse unit selection, swung significantly back and forth, and both of us got some really effective and some really ineffective moments with our units. Also overall I think I showed off one of the prime strengths of Dragon Rampant: the opportunity to come up with little story reasons for things. Your Lich didn't "fail his Shoot activation," he straight up cooked like 4 heavy infantry last turn, he needs to recharge! My light infantry are failing to move half the time because they're stupefied by the evil aura of this phylactery they're carrying. Your skeletons aren't routing, they're crumbling away as the magic animating them has taken too much stress at one time, presumably the last one crumbled just in time for my last dwarf's swing of his big two handed axe to miss so he did a comedic little spin from the momentum. Making it a fun story rather than a sheer mechanical "oh your guy failed to activate because you didn't roll a 6+ on 2d6." Turning what could be a system weakness into a strength solely based on approaching the game with a fun attitude.

For the ask game, Endeavor gets hired as a teacher in UA to be closer to his son, please.
Shouto Todoroki walks into class on his first day of school, sees that his father is a teacher, and walks out. Unlike Izuku, Shouto has no particular attachment to U.A. as All Might's alma matter and would be happy to attend one of the perfectly good other hero schools less infested by his relatives. However Endeavor calls up every hero school in town and bribes/threatens them not to accept his son. Shouto next switches to apprenticeships, but Endeavor also prevents any heroes from accepting his son by refusing to grant permission. It has turned into a war of Todoroki stubbornness.
Shouto obtains an apprenticeship with the only hero who would take him: Knuckleduster. Who is a vigilante but Shouto didn't sweat the details. Knuckleduster enthusiastically tells Shouto that he doesn't need to use his fire to become a hero, in fact he doesn't need a quirk at all, he can just punch people. Shouto undergoes a rigorous training regime and becomes a buff monster.
Nezu left Shouto enrolled in the Sports Festival because he thought it would be funny. Shouto smashes through the first rounds without even using a quirk, to his father's fury. Shouto has an epic slugfest with Izuku. Izuku has some really complicated feelings about meeting a quirkless hero, doesn't have his mind in the fight, and loses. (Later Izuku will find out that Shouto actually has a beautiful quirk and be FURIOUS leading to a "your power is your own" confrontation but that's not important yet.)
More importantly, Shouto knocks Katsuki out with one punch and wins the Sports Festival.
Most importantly of all, this leads to Shouto being kidnapped by the League of Villains instead of Katsuki.
#5 headcanons game#Que a furious Izuku chasing after Shouto#Not to save him from the LOV#But to beat some sense into him about neglecting his quirk

On the 23rd of September, twenty six years ago, "The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest" was released for the NEO GEO (as "The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends" in Japan.)
"The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest" is often praised for its refined gameplay mechanics and balanced character roster, featuring fighters from previous installments without a story mode. The game emphasizes fast-paced, team-based combat, allowing players to form teams of three characters. Known for its competitive depth, it remains one of the most popular entries in the series, often referred to as a "dream match" due to its focus on gameplay over story.

S8 GoT is much better than the horrible s2 hotd. How can anyone even like this stupid show? It's so bad.
Game of Thrones is a legendary and phenomenal show and nothing will ever come close to it, even though many think so.
Thank you for your message. Oh no got s8 was the worst ever. No one talks about GoT anymore because of it. Its not WHERE the characters ended up with but HOW. You can see how RUSHED the season were. There were supposed to be more seasons to tell the story and you can see that. The so hyped LONG night lasted only one night lol. I loved Game of Thrones so much and now I hate every GoT merch I have. I hate all the quotes even "Who here has better story than Bran the Broken". Bronn master of coin and he cant even read like. Ughh.
S2 of HOTD was a slugfest but it wasnt AS bad as GOT s8 which was supposed to be the great ending of one of the greatest shows ever. D&D really outdid themselves with the rushing. The first seasons were amazing it is true. But the ending was sooo bad.
#answered#house of the dragon#game of thrones#my thoughts#these are my thoughts and im not here to argue. this is just my opinion#and ofc respect yours#im glad you messaged me.#i love to talk about s8#anonymous

— ❛ why is it whenever we see each other, you’re covered in blood? ❜ @tragedyrich
joe has a strong hand. he throws a hard punch, swings with all his weight and he does it fast. and when he's at the top of his game, buzzing with adrenaline, one strike is all it takes to knock any bastard cold. even the hum, the ache along his knuckles will come up pleasant -- thrilling -- a generous reminder of his independent vigour. except the scrappy redhead had been a thrashing fighter. the collision was grimey, dragged to the floor where joe wrestled, elbowed his way against insistent fists and a sudden blooming rage. he could've been looking for a brawl -- could've been tailing joe expecting him to have more than a tenner in his pocket. irregardless of intention, it morphed into a bloody slugfest. he gets the upperhand by way of a catching knuckle, cracking the redhead hard against the jaw, and tossing him blurry-eyed. and when joe rises, scraped and bruising and spitting something dark and red -- he nicks forty from the half-conscious figure, and runs. his legs tire out by a largely empty park, and he collapses, draping himself across the seat of a bench. from a distance, he probably looks half-dead. joe stirs from the peace and quiet, eyes squinting up at the face briefly silhouetted by the sun. christ. "ya stalkin' me now?" his lips are crusted with dried blood, a split lip -- among other things.
