In Danish, the words for deceased and expired are very close to each other. But it was still the most mortifying and horrible thing that's ever come out of my mouth. I still think about it. Neither the widow nor my coworker said anything, so I've been desperately gaslighting myself into thinking they didn't hear my slip-up.

Still, saying a deceased man has expired is the most shameful moment in my life.
