Love this necklace, real obscure pull! North Star and Skippity Doo are pulling the sleigh, but why is Skippity a pegasus?

Because she was a pegasus on her G1 backcard, because Heart Throb was in that spot for Wave 1 of the 1986 So-Softs. For Wave 2 they traced Heart Throb and made her Skippity Doo.

Can't Believe This is a Part Two

Can you believe that we had to break something into two parts because I sure McFucking Can't. Welcome to episode 16.5 of The Rump Design Games. I'm still joined by my cohost Pony Flickerman, who says that this happenstance is an atrocity.

Shady (aka Petite Ombre/Óculos-de-Sol) Spirit of the Pony: 4/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 3/5 Ugliness: 2/5

Pony Flickerman: My dreams are more crushed than when my father abandoned me in the coal mines. So. Shady has sunglasses. Though to be honest if they wanted them to be sunglasses I think they should've made the lenses grey or maybe black. I know Hasbro is too much of a pussy to try it though. Kinda love that she's trippin' though. I hope she's having a great time with those flowers.

Wind Whistler (aka Sifflebizz/Asinha do Apito) Spirit of the Pony: 4/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 4.5/5 Ugliness: 4.5/5

Those whistle silhouettes are sexy, I will not lie to you. However. What the fuck is going on with her names. I have several very loud questions and none of them will be answered in her backstory, I just know it. Pony Flickerman is afraid. This one is also trippin'. I wanna know who's supplying these ponies. Pony Flickerman wants what they're on.

Paradise Spirit of the Pony: 4/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 3.5/5 Ugliness: 4/5

Love that she manages to rock the mould, a rare talent indeed. I like all her colours, she's quite lovely. What is there to comment on about perfection. Lovely little pony indeed.

Twist Spirit of the Pony: 2.5/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 2/5 Ugliness: 2.5/5

This is the most mouldy pony yet. Why would you make her Rump Design white when she's mouldy. Why is her hair that garish neon orange when her body is purple. I have several more very loud questions. We hope whoever designed Twist gets fired, and if they didn't get fired Pony Flickerman is going to stomp them to death with its hooves. Not a great tie-in between her Rump Design and her story. She could've been a baker. She could've made lovely treats for her friends. Who doesn't love a fucking pretzel.

Skippity Doo Spirit of the Pony: 1.5/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 3/5 Ugliness: 1/5 (ew/5)

I hate her limp candy cane lookin' jump rope ass. I at least assume it's supposed to be a jump rope, it's hard to tell when it just looks like a weird arch. I like her body colour more when she's not flocked but her hair colour doesn't really work with her body colour. If her hair had been more pink I would've assumed she's supposed to be candy cane themed like g3 Minty. I think the feeling evoked when her backstory is read can be summed up in one word; what.

Bouncy Spirit of the Pony: 5/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 5/5 Ugliness: 5/5

I am disappointed with this adorable Rump Design and colour palette being absolutely caked in mould. Why are you hiding her beauty from the world Hasbro? What did Bouncy ever do to you? She was born and you covered her in mould to shame her for being wonderful. Love the support for pollution in her backstory.

Fifi Spirit of the Pony: 4/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 4.5/5 Ugliness: 3/5

Pony Flickerman: I get it, however, I don't like that this pony has poodles on her ass. I also don't like that she has dogs on her ass. It makes sense but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The fact that her backstory has little to nothing to do with poodles thoroughly infuriates me.

Pony Flickerman: I am going to eat her and remove her sins from this world, she is a blemish and a mistake. Thank you Pony Flickerman, took the words right out of my mouth. If Magic Star is god, Scrumptious is the devil. Get your devil melons out of here.

Hippity Hop Spirit of the Pony: 4.5/5 Does the Palette Fuck: 4.5/5 Ugliness: 1/5

Hippity Hop why are your bunnies missing vertebrae. Why do they look like horrible wretched little frogs. I have questions and frankly I don't think I'm going to get answers. Of course Hippity Hop and Skippity Doo are friends. I wouldn't be surprised if they were horrible siblings.

The day of the big Pony Picnic had finally arrived! All the ponies were having fun swimming in the lake and playing games. "You're next," Lofty called to Skippity Doo, who was waiting for her turn to run through the spinning jump rope. As she did, her hoof bounced off a pebble, sending Skippity Doo high in the air! "Whee!" she laughed as she landed on a cloud. She reached beneath the cloud's silver lining and pulled out a heaping handful of shiny sunbeams. She tossed the sunbeams down to the picnic area while the others watched from below. Before they reached the ground, the sunbeams magically changed into colorful parasols for all the ponies. This was Skippity Doo's finest jump indeed!

The cultural (in)significance of “MLP ‘n Friends”, Part 1

I was a child of the 80s (got my first MLP in 1983 or 1984) and longtime collector of MLP, and I’ve been trying to think of the best way to explain what G1 My Little Pony WAS to little girls back in the day.  Because a lot of people conflate “G1 My Little Pony” with “the G1 TV show (and specials)”, and that’s extremely inaccurate.  

I understand why people make that assumption, because not only is the G4 MLP line show-driven, but a lot of 80s toylines were show-driven too.  Like He-Man, She-Ra, and G1 Transformers.

^ Most people are thinking of the image on the right when they refer to “G1 Ratchet”.

But G1 MLP was more like Cabbage Patch Kids.

The fad toy of 1983, CPKs were not marketed as representations of cartoon characters. In fact, part of their marketing was 1) they were unique and 2) kids got to name them themselves. Sure, after the fad was already under way there were a couple CPK specials.  But who remembers the CPK cartoon’s theme song or characters?  Anyone?

Similarly, G1 MLP was a hit toy before its specials, movie, and cartoon existed.  I didn’t know anything about My Little Pony until my grandma gave me one as a birthday gift, but I was instantly enthralled. According to my mom, I walked around the house clutching Moondancer, repeating “At last, all my dreams and wishes have come true.”

Eventually the cartoon, “My Little Pony ‘n Friends” debuted (1986 - 1987).  And it just didn’t have much impact on ponydom.  Like, no one brought up characters / plots from the show when I was playing ponies with other girls.

Today, if you ask adults about their favorite childhood ponies, their answer is usually based on which pony they thought was prettiest, not show personality.  Some of the most popular sets were never even in the show, like Twice As Fancy ponies, Summer Wings ponies, etc.  (Unlike Transformers, where the G1 childhood favorite is always a show character like Optimus or Soundwave, never a toy-only character like Big Daddy or Chop Shop.)

I don’t think most girls disliked the show.  It just seemed like no one was watching it.  Or if they were watching it, it wasn’t making much of an impression.  (Theories on why that might be in future posts.)

Everyone knew Starscream was the treacherous Transformer but I, a pony-obsessed child who could list every My Little Pony from 1982 to 1986 by name, set, and physical appearance, had no inkling of the show personality of Wind Whistler, a main character.  

In fact, I didn’t even know she was in the show!   As far as I knew she was no more or less important than her set-mates, Twist and Skippity Doo.  I knew them all from the same place: the brochure that came with the toys.

And that brings us back to what was most important about G1 My Little Pony to 80s kids: the toys.

11/26/19: Pony Acquisition Post #392: MASSIVE G1,G3,G4 LOT!!

PONY OVERLOAD! I got this massive lot of ponies from Facebook Marketplace, and took the chance of restoring them! I got many “first”s for my collection here, including my first Fairy Tails Bird, my first Sweetheart sisters, dance and prance, and Magic Message Ponies!

I’m going to include list of the ponies I received! G1: Party Time (TE), Gingerbreadt (TE), Scrumptious (SS), Skippity Doo (SS), Magic Star (SS),  Wildflower (SHS), Dainty (SHS), Spring Song (SHS), Glory (unicorn and pegasus line), Ringlets (SLH), Dancing Butterflies (TAF), Princess Primrose (Princess), Rosedust (Flutter Ponies), Cloud Puff (Flutter Ponies) Mommy Apple Delight (Apple Delight Family), Tap Dancer (DnP), Twirler (DnP),Baby Firefly (Baby Sparkle Ponies)

G3: Rainbow Flash (SLH), Pinkie Pie I, Sunny Daze, Baby Bellaluna, Comet Tail, Tulip Twinkle, Aloha Pearl (SLH), Candy Hearts, Bashful Bonnet

The ponies came to me as an “as is” condition, and needed a good cleaning! They look much better afterwards, but some are still sort of bait condition, but I’m sure they can be loved!!

The Sweetie Pups I received look to be the Shih Tsu (with the original ribbon!) and Maltese, and the Fairy Tails bird is Tasty Tails!

Original condition: Poor/Bait

Flaws: Profuse surface dirt, haircuts on some, as well as marks, etc.

Restoration Materials: soap, shampoo, magic eraser, conditioner, comb

Current Condition: Good/fair
