At the end of this all, looking back I think my favourite memories surround Team BOLAS in Purgatory.
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, the Death Family will always be my favourite dynamic and POV but god I still think about the found family that formed in bloodshed.
It seemed rigged from the start, half their team hadn't been seen in months and the remaining people had about the collective knowledge of one Philza Minecraft on a sick day.
Despite how many times they were destroyed, over and over, they kept getting back up due to their 'fuck it, we ball' attitude. My god, I don't think any of us saw their first win coming and then they just kept doing it.
Someone would come along and kill them, deleting hours of work in seconds and they would laugh it off and get back up. It was seriously impressive from both a character and creator standpoint to watch their dedication. Their shenanigans and light-hearted attitude did so much for their morale long-term. They seriously pulled up their bootstraps and kicked ass.
They outlasted the dissolving of the third team among the remaining two. They were constantly in earshot of one another, moving as a pack and spending every moment of those short hours together in voice calls of just existing.
It was hell and it was sancutary.
It gave Cellbit a figure to look up to and work to better himself to make him proud.
It gave Baghera and Jaiden a family, something neither had experienced due to *lore*.
It gave the mourning father Slimecicle a place to accept the fact his daughter was dead.
It gave Foolish something to fight for and a fighting partner to work beside in the form of an old crow hybrid, with barely a word spoken between them they won BOLAS a day event.
It gave Carre a place to just be silly while also being a goat.
Everyone on the original team who logged in plus the second round of BOLAS members pulled their weight and did incredible in such a stressful event. The amount of clips, art and writing that were created following the interactions exchanged under those red skies will far outlive the short fortnight the event existed.
It was very bittersweet watching the two remaining members, Cellbit and Baghera, put on gas masks and wear them to the end in honour of their family formed out of circumstance that evolved into genuine growth and affection between them. They carried that respect onto that plane and to freedom, they hold the memories of the people who held them at their worst. They will fondly reflect at their best, hoping they were proud [spoiler, they always will be].
BOLAS came to mean a lot to both the characters and us, the audience.
I will remember you forever, my chaotic cult of creators. You were a delight and I am excited to relive the content whenever I feel like returning to a series that became a comfort one for me.

team bolas rojas gas masks designs??
in THIS day and age?????
it may be more likely than you think..
Tumblr media
this was my first time drawing a series of different gas masks, no idea if they’re accurate at all, but it was really fun!!
**notes & closeups under the cut :-D**
it’s a lot of notes so be prepared for an info dump.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOTES:
Philza: honestly, what more is there to say than “CROW MAN!!”? aside from his goggles being glow-in-the-dark, theres not much more to the mask design. however, i decided, “hey! this is purgatory! i can fuck up these characters!” so, he has a ripped ear(?)wing and messily cut back hair. (i didn’t pay too much attention to the hair in this design, i was mainly trying to get the gas masks down, but maybe i’ll go further into later.)
Cellbit: this is definitely one of my favorites, he looks pretty scary, i would NOT stop my car if i saw him on the side of the road. its based off of a cat mask(obviously) and a painted white streak goes through his mask, inspired by his hair. i didn’t include it, but circles in the goggles are supposed to retract with different emotions (kind of how cat’s eyes do, saucer and dagger pupils.) he’s also covered in blood because he’s going through it lore wise.
Slimecicle: ngl, it was my first time drawing code charlie(other than all the wips i have that i’ll never finish),but i think he’s pretty spooky. his mask is the worst quality, like it USED to work well until he wore it out. thus, there are broken air tubes that let the gas in. (he should probably get those replaced.) the holes for his horns are kind of like an airlock, so the gas can’t enter through them (phil helped him make it.) however, it makes it difficult to take off.
Baghera: baghera’s mask is kind of built like charlie’s, except in much better quality. aside from the loose air tubes, the mask almost goes all the way around her head, not letting even the slightest bit of gas in. theres also a plastic duck beak on top of the regular breathy-thing(i have no idea what i’m doing, so, no, i don’t know the technical term for that) to give it the “bird touch.”
Jaiden: jaiden’s mask was FUN. like i kinda went overboard. i did these all on different days, and this was the night after the big egg battle day. i saw she had fnaf bonnie ears along with her bird gas mask, and said “ok cool. i’ll add that.” she has the same feather/beak thing i gave to baghera. also, hair-wise, she gets a hair bun and her brown roots showing through(we love messy haired cubitos ^^)
Foolish: foolish was interesting, not sure i like the final product, but i’m tired, so it’ll do. his mask is based off of a lemon shark. he gas glowing green eyes and golden splotches on the leather. the air tube foolish has is REALLY long. like unnaturally long. so he wraps it around his neck to get it out of the way. the other members are extremely concerned it’ll choke him one day, but foolish thinks it’s cool and will scare other teams away. kind of like a “yea, i’m crazy, i could choke and die at any minute, and i don’t care.” phil, being the protective father figure of the group, does not like this at all.
Carre: and finally, we have carre. ah, sweet, sweet carre.(he is my favorite.) his mask is based off of a snow leopard because i hc he’s half feline. carre has the lightest, and most simple mask, since it’s entirely plastic, and more so based off of skiing or snowboarding goggles.
ANYWAY, i hope these notes make sense, excuse my rambling about silly designs, i tend to doodle messily, and not really have a plan when i draw, lol.
thanks for reading, BYE!

Kiss imagine
How they would react to you tickling them
Requested by: @kawaiisarichan100
☁️ Fluff ☁️
🦇Gene: So Gene would actually be a tough and I can imagine him not having many tickling spots, but since u started the war he will fight. Get ready for merciless amounts of tickles.
⭐️Paul: I think he would giggle here and there but also tickle you back and at the end of the day u would be the one overpowered and tickled to the skies.
🧊Ace: He would find it so funny (like everything) and burst out laughing and tickling u back and all. I think u would have the best time and a lot of fun till the both of u are laying laughing on the floor.
🐱Peter: Peter would laugh and tell u to stop (just like he did with Gene when they were joking around) and try to softly push your hands off and it would turn into playing.
Bonus
🦊Eric carr: He would have that shy smile around u and try to be though but at the end burst out laughing and tickling you back. The two of u would laugh and have a lot of fun and his shyness would pass.

re:proto-rpgs an oft-overlooked contribution to the zeitgeist is Mike Carr's Fight in the Skies (self-published 1966, Guidon Games 1972), issued by TSR in 1975 as Dawn Patrol! Players assumed the role of individual World War I pilots, tracking kills, medals earned, etc. I've not seen the pre-TSR rules myself, but I once corresponded with Carr, who confirmed that the rpg elements were present from the beginning.
Oooh, thanks for cluing me to this, I'll definitely look it up! This game actually gets name dropped in The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures, in which the aeriel combat system for D&D is called Battle in the Skies.

Emily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1871. Her inclination to art was duly encouraged by her father, Richard Carr, a wholesale merchant. After the death of both her parents in 1890, she started to pursue art seriously, and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute for two years. At the age of 26, Carr visited a small village near Ucluelet located on the western coast of the Vancouver Island. There she sketched the lives of the Nootka people, indigenous to the land. Her interest in the lifestyle of Indian people was promoted by her trip to Alaska, where she spent days sketching the daily activities of the villagers.
In 1899, Carr went to the UK to study at the Westminster School of Art in London. In England she befriended and worked with Julius Olsson and Algernon Talmage, artists of the St. Ives School. By the time she returned to Canada, Carr established herself as a professional artist. She worked as a teacher at the Ladies Art Club in Vancouver, where she was highly unpopular among the students due to her smoking habits and cursing, that eventually led her to resign from her job.
After her tryst with many Indian villages in the Queen Charlotte Islands and the Upper Skeena River, Carr once again went to Europe in 1910, to study at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. She also took private lessons from Harry Phelan Gibb who influenced her palette adding there more vibrant colors. She was also influenced by French Post-Impressionism and Fauvism, and, after returning back to Canada in 1912, she exhibited 70 oils and watercolors of her “french period”, showing those influences. However, her bold new style was not appreciated by Canadians.
During the next 15 years, Carr did not paint much. She run a boarding house, took a short-story writing course, and spent some time in San Francisco doing different jobs, like painting decorations for the St. Francis Hotel and drawing cartoons for Western Woman’s Weekly. In 1927 Carr attended an exhibition of West Coast Aboriginal art in National Gallery of Canada. There she met Lawren Harris and other members of the Group of Seven, the most recognized modern painters in Canada at that time. Their distinctively Canadian art impressed her greatly, and triggered the most prolific period of her creative career. Throughout the decade, she mastered the scenes from the daily lives, traditions and culture of the indigenous Americans. With Lawren Harris as her mentor, Carr began to paint bold, almost hallucinatory canvases with which many people identify her - paintings of Aboriginal totem poles set in deep forest locations or the sites of abandoned Indigenous villages.
After a year or two Carr left Aboriginal subjects to devote herself to nature themes. From 1928 on, critical recognition and exposure in exhibitions of more than regional significance, like the National Gallery of Canada and the American Federation of Artists in Washington, D.C., began to come her way. There was even the occasional sale, though never enough to improve her financial situation. In full mastery of her talents and with deepening vision, she continued to produce a great body of paintings freely expressive of the large rhythms of Western forests, driftwood-tossed beaches and expansive skies, like Indian Church (1929), Loggers’ Culls (1935), and Heart of the Forest (1935).
In 1937, Carr suffered her first heart attack, which marked the beginning of a decline in her health and a lessening of the energy required for painting. Artworks from her last decade, like Odds and Ends (1939), reveal her growing anxiety about the environmental impact of industry on British Columbia's landscape and on the lives of Indigenous people. Carr died in 1945 of a heart attack. More than half a century after her death, she has become a Canadian icon. Her long preoccupation with the Indigenous culture of the Canadian west coast coincided with the beginnings of a rising tide of awareness and confident self-identification on the part of Aboriginal people who had for some time been considered part of a moribund culture. In the same way, her passionate involvement with nature and its portrayal coincided with a growing popular awareness of environmental issues and an accompanying sense of loss associated with the disappearance of "nature" in our own day. And the fact that she was a woman fighting the overwhelming obstacles that faced women of her day to become an artist of stunning originality and strength has made her a favorite of the women's movement.

273. Mike Carr - Fantasy Forest #2 - Ruins of Rangar (October 1983)
Tumblr media
Another one in my attempt to catch up to books that fell by the wayside in this project, we jump a few months back to October 1983 to find the second of the children's gamebook series Fantasy Forest. This one is written by a true TSR veteran, Mike Carr who was there from the start with Gygax and Arenson and ended up designing Fight in the Skies. He was also the writer of In Search of the Unknown, which led to some interesting internal politics seeing as Carr was making quite a buck from that module being bundled with the basic set, which eventually led Gary Gygax to replace it with Keep on the Borderlands that he penned himself.
Tumblr media
Well, this must have been one of the last Carr publications for TSR because he left the company this same year, and it's a simple story of a boy who works as a kind of squire for his brother, a knight, and who leave on a quest to defeat Nightshade an evil skeleton king.
Tumblr media
A fun book, with considerably better illustrations by Michael Fishel than the first volume in the series. These Fishel illustrations are a bit creepy for young kids though, the Zombies and Skeletons are particularly horrific and the grotesque drawing style doesn't help, I kind of like them though, I know that if I had this as a kid, I would have been fascinated. The cover is by Jeff Easley, and great as usual.

Meanwhile, headcannon combining Hanna-Barbera funtastic goodness with Wisconsin Dells
Over at the new Elm Street Stage just past downtown, who could imagine The Banana Splits and/or the Cattanooga Cats pulling off free performances of warm Wisconsin summer nights, followed by jam sessions galore overnights--and plenty of "meet-and-greet" to be had especially Downtown and at Outlets at the Dells, with much in the way of selfie opportunities?
Plenty of cheesy Wisconsin goodness to be expected as well, especially with many of your favourite Funtastics (notably the old standbys) patronising the likes of Carr Valley Cheese and Market Square Cheese and stocking up on Wisconsin's Finest when it comes to cheeses and sausages. (Oh yes, and snack crackers for to complement said cheeses.)
For good measure, there's also bound to be some attention directed at the fudge and candy shops of Wisconsin Dells, especially with Undercover Elephant enjoying his beloved Coconut Cashew Crunch--and getting some sent off to "some close friends" as well.
Though the Tommy Bartlett Show may be no more, picture a bucolic Saturday or Sunday afternoon on Artificial Lake Delton with no less than Wally Gator, Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har, and Touché Turtle and Dum-Dum kicking back on jet skis and just letting the wake dominate. Followed, perhaps, with a cookout over non-alcoholic beer or ale.
Recording podcasts at no less than Pizza Pub, with the odd tourist interview thrown in as well: Crazy Claws (and no less than), inviting tourist types to sit alongside him for pizza or maybe even pasta (especially considering that $1 from each spaghetti dinner Pizza Pub serves supports the music programmes at the local schools). Not exactly Amanda's Hot Tub or Desert Island Discs, but just give Crazy Claws a booth and let the conversation begin.
Unlikeliest of tourist distractions to be found, as if the presence of The Banana Splits and the Cattanooga Cats in walkabout wasn't distracting enow on The Broadway: Kwicky Koala, off on a side-street parking lot, having a food truck with blatantly Australian icons featured (among them Uluru, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the Twelve Apostles along the Great Ocean Road, some Melbourne trams, New Parliament House in Canberra, the Gold Coast skyline and the Aussie flag as well) selling Australian grocery staples including Arnott's biscuits and crispbreads, Bushell's and Nerada teas, Freddo Frogs, Cherry Ripe bars, Minties, Kool Mints, Jaffas, Fantales, Gravox gravy mix, ETA Barbecue Sauce, frozen Aussie meat pies and sausage rolls--and Vegemite, obviously.
Honey and Sis pulling off a season of surprise shortwave worldcasts from their motorhome-based worldcasting station parked at an isolated site beside Lake Delton, talking things up in their own unique way over warm Wisconsin summer nights. And imagine the QSL responses including some enquiries about the Wisconsin Dells region, even Wisconsin cheeses.
Oh, and how about the Hair Bear Bunch making their way "up north" for bear mating season for a mix of "meet-and-greets," at least one steak supper and getting some frozen steaks as well for grilling during their Camp Volkswagen sessions?
And plenty more where they came from ...

Today was insane! Three hours in a car, one of the longest lines into a venue i'ver ever seen. Spent the first act in the lawn (CARR) and then got into the pit for then next one (RATS) and BMTH was INSANE! First time seeing them live and it was a blast! I touched Oli Sykes hand!
Then this guy comes up and says there's storms, there's lightning in the air and we all gotta go back to our cars. We barely get out of the venue before the skies open and the rain pours on us. Me and my ride just full SPRINT to our car, all the way in the back of the field. We spend the next hour desperately saving phone battery and trying to eek out enough service to check the weather. And then everyone is cheering, yelling, running out of their cars and to the venue - the shows back on!
Fall out boy starts playing before im past the gate, and im running down towards the pit to the tune of Phoenix, yelling into the sky as i rise. I meet the pit at Uma Thurman, and dance until Heaven, Iowa.
It all catches up to me - i'm alive, seeing one of my favorite bands for the first time ever, in the pit - Moonlight Sonata and I sobbing as I scream these words etched into my heart. The momentum carries me through Thnks fr the Mmrs, This Ain't a Scene, My Songs and the fire on the stage - Saturday plays and though it's a thursday night i feel this in my bones, this frenzied "it's our last night alive" energy singing in my veins.
Now i sit in the car, long three hour ride ahead of me and i've never felt more alive.

Appetite for Distraction
I have calmed and quieted myself, . . . I am content. Psalm 131:2
READ Psalm 131
LISTEN ONLINE
I set my phone down, weary of the constant bombardment of images, ideas and notifications that the little screen broadcasted. Then, I picked it up and turned it on again. Why?
In his book The Shallows, Nicholas Carr describes how the internet has shaped our relationship with stillness: “What the Net seems to be doing is chipping away my capacity for concentration and contemplation. Whether I’m online or not, my mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles. Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski.”
Living life on a mental jet ski doesn’t sound healthy. But how do we begin to slow down, to dive deeply into still spiritual waters?
In Psalm 131, David writes, “I have calmed and quieted myself” (v. 2). David’s words remind me that I have responsibility. Changing habits starts with my choice to be still—even if I must make that choice over and over again. Slowly, though, we experience God’s satisfying goodness. Like a little child, we rest in contentment, remembering that He alone offers hope (v. 3)—soul-satisfaction that no smartphone app can touch and no social media site can deliver.
By Adam R. Holz
REFLECT & PRAY
How does technology influence your ability to rest quietly before God? Does your phone contribute to your contentment? Why or why not?
Father, the world is awash in distraction that doesn’t satisfy my soul. Help me trust You to fill me with genuine contentment.
SCRIPTURE INSIGHT
The language of Psalm 131 can seem a bit odd. Isn’t the psalmist a little prideful to declare to God that he’s not prideful? But the psalmist isn’t after praise for his humility. Instead, the words of the song communicate great confidence in knowing his station in life and being satisfied with it.
Rather than aspire to things beyond his reach, the psalmist looks to what’s in front of him. He finds contentment in quiet and peace, an idea the NIV brings to the front by translating verse 2—which reads literally, “like a weaned child I am on myself”—as “like a weaned child I am content.”
In the end, the psalmist encourages Israel to hope in Yahweh. Contentment with our lot in life—neither looking higher or lower—comes from our confidence in God, because He is enough.
