Six Schizophrenic Brothers documentary based on Hidden Valley Road book and on being raised with mental illness
I have watched the first half of the documentary. It is disturbing and enthralling. It is about the Galvin family. Of 12 children, 6 boys developed schizophrenia. There is trauma, violence, fear. I am sure there were happier times but the show is pretty dark. I was born in a large family, 7 children. My father had some sort of untreated, undiagnosed mental illness. He prided himself on not…

Why what we think we know about schizophrenia is wrong
However, if you’re of the view – shared by many people, including health professionals – that even the most alarming of your thoughts, and the most extreme changes in your moods, and your most uncharacteristic behaviours are not symptomatic of illness so much as a natural response to undischarged trauma or painful life events, or even poverty, then to see this wrapped up in a medical language that begins with you becoming a “patient” might feel seriously problematic. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/may/11/nathan-filer-schizophrenia

Prophet WIP
Hundreds of years after the six gods' potential death, a single prophet is born. When his twin brother is possessed by a holy sickness, a race begins to preserve or destroy the last relics of dead divinity, and refuse or give forgiveness for errors of the past.
Starring!
Theodore Novak (Theo): the prophet. Desperately does not want to be a prophet. A nervous wreck most of the time, becomes a little strange when he grows comfortable around you. Has not seen his brother for almost a year, and eager to apologise for previous cruelties.
Cain Kavon: The brother, and vessel to the Blight. Controlled by his anger, and by having his mind changed around him. Schizophrenic, and suffered from his brother unknowingly encouraging a delusion to dangerous levels in the past. Prideful and headstrong and terrified thrilled to now belong to the Blight.
The Blight: The divine sickness. Sourced from human anger and frustration at the gods. Recently escaped the trap the final god put it in, weakened and needing something to reside in as it gains power again. Exploits others anger and frustration to get what it wants.
Raya Glick: The student. Provided a place for Theo to go to when he was asked to leave home, and uses him as an assistant to her history PhD on exactly what happened to the gods. From an orthodox temple background. Drives around the country in a van, investigating the gods current forms. Straightforward and non-nonsense.
Featuring the complexities of brotherhood, the thin line between “prophet” and “schizophrenic”, a divine and glorious anger and a desperate attempt to reach someone who may already be lost to you.

Color? Yellow. Mallard green. Peony pink.
Last Song? I like to put on Pomplamoose and Jamiroquai when I'm doing housework. Last stuck in my head? The theme song from Elmo's World and the pinwheel jingle from Nickelodeon.
Currently Reading? M.C. Beaton Regency romances in no particular order, Marple and A Second Chance by Jodi Taylor queued on my Kindle. My bedside table stack is too tall to count!
Currently Watching? (Don't laugh.) Lost, finally. Glee, with my 12 yo, finally. The Bear, Season 2, just before Season 3 drops. Just watched Six Schizophrenic Brothers on Max. Brats, the Andrew McCarthy documentary about how he Never Got Over being called the Brat Pack when pretty much everyone else did. (Team Ducky!) In the middle of the last season of All Creatures Great and Small on PBS. Planning to watch Hit Man.
Currently Craving? It's morning here and I don't eat a big breakfast but I guess freshly made scones would be appreciated. A poached egg, Nutella and coconut gelato for dessert tonight, which I had around this time last year in Rome.
Coffee or Tea? Inveterate tea-drinker, Red Rose is my favorite brand, about to make my second cup. I can only tolerate a little coffee-- usually a few sips a day, though I like the flavor. I am not My Best Self on caffeine.

the fact that we all watched a black man (vaemond) be extrajudicially murdered by a white man (daemon) in full view of the entire court, and not a damn thing was said by so-called fans and critics regarding the optics of that scene left me totally appalled. like, how can they all just sit down and have dinner after that bullshit? baela, who has no doubt been around her great-uncle for like 6-10 years during the timeskip has no thoughts or feelings of discomfort about witnessing him just cease to exist before her very eyes? why aren't she and rhaena with rhaenys watching his body be prepared to go back home or even discussing what the repercussion of this are going to be???
Some of it is just bad writing (it should not be possible for the king's brother to lop someone's head off in open court without trial for no reason without there being some repercussions), like Rhaenys being on board with the betrothals of her granddaughters to the Strongs, or even Baela being on board with it, seeing as again she doesn't know Jace at all and has been around Rhaenys (and yeah, presumably Vaemond) consistently for a decade at this point*. And Baela (and to a lesser extent Rhaena) should not be fully on board with just sitting down and eating with Daemon after that, and should at least have some pause with Daemon in general given that he's just shown himself to be an unhinged psychotic killer. That's bad writing, which would exist regardless of the characters involved.
But when it comes to things outside the writing, like fan and critic reception, then yeah it's a bit skeevy. Again, I'm likely not the best person to speak on this, I'm not Black, but considering that this fandom has a real problem with blood supremacy talk (some of the more virulent Team Black people really need to check themselves with the way they talk about blood purity and pure genetics, it's getting a bit German), people just going "yass king!" about Daemon murdering Vaemond doesn't entirely sit right. Vaemond is in the objective right in 1x08, Lucerys has no legitimate claim to Driftmark and everyone knows it, it should pass to Baela or even Rhaena and it is fair of him to bring this up with the closest legal authority he has, the Crown. He's an absolute asshole about it, calling Rhaenyra misogynistic slurs that aren't even accurate (she had a committed long term relationship with a man she wanted that was entirely consensual, and even with the approval of her husband though Vaemond doesn't know that, calling her a "whore" is uncalled for and vile), but him understanding Punnett squares isn't a sin. The show has made it plain the Strongs are Strongs, Vaemond is right, so him being murdered for it isn't a slay (especially given the historical trend of Black men being extrajudicially murdered by white men based on false allegations and untruths by other white people).
And writing wise, yeah, there's something that stinks in the lack of care that's given to the interiority of the Black characters. I've said this before, that Baela and Rhaena were basically not given any characterization at all in season 1 and that Corlys's character writing was really schizophrenic, and it does feel a bit iffy considering that, again, these are our only main characters of color. It speaks to a broader issue in the writing of the Velaryons in general that was really emblematic in season 1 Baela and Rhaena, that there was an extreme lack of care in crafting anything for characters you knew, and given that the decision to make the Velaryons Black was done pretty early on, hmmm suspicious. Maybe it wouldn't be much of an issue if they hadn't, but they did; they made the Velaryons Black and then chose not to put any effort into writing them cohesively, coherently, or even at all. And that doesn't sit right.
*I'm assuming they're retconning the second time skip into a full ten years because again, based on the timeline the show gave originally, the second time skip should have been only six years, but then everyone made fun of them for saying Ewan Mitchell was a sixteen year old and also the compression of the timeline in general so they padded it out.
#personal#answered#anonymous#i'm also not only the best person to discuss this but likely not very coherent right now#been nauseous all day and wanna try to take a final this afternoon#so that i don't have to do anything tomorrow

who to kill
The one interesting thing about killing Trip was summed up in the “I thought all the risks would be worth it because just beyond the next planet, just beyond the next star, there would be something magnificent, something noble. And now Trip is dead, and I have to give a speech about how worthwhile it's all been” line.
It sort of represents humanity asking themselves that question. Was all of this worth it? It falls flat in TATV because all we (or me, anyway) can think of on the heels of Terra and Demon is T'Pol's grief. And the line itself is kind of lost in the shuffle (and made awkward by Riker hanging out in the corner). Archer never gets a moment alone with it. It’s all kinda schizophrenic.
But I very much do like the idea of Archer asking himself that question at the end of the series. The Romulan war is over, the Federation papers have finally been signed. But all he can think about is the personal loss which represents Earth's losses as a whole.
Millions have died in an attack and then a war, and we can't see yet whether it will lead to something better. Archer feeling guilt as well at insisting humanity go out before they were ready. “Just beyond the next planet, just beyond the next star, there would be something magnificent, something noble.” Sorry, but it really is a great line.
(This is my real problem with the temporal cold war, btw. Daniels always telling Archer everything's going to be great. Cuts the legs out from under the emotional journey, but I doubt anyone in the audience remembers that or cares, so we'll hand wave it and send him on the journey anyway.)
Having a personal loss would drive it home to Archer and the audience in a way millions of people we’ve never met would not. So I like the idea. But I can't kill Trip because T'Pol.
I considered Shran. In my current head scenario, Shran gets kicked out of the Andorian military because he helped Archer during the Romulan war on the down low. This is what leads to him being on Enterprise and a main cast member by season six. Their friendship grows over the last few seasons to the point where losing Shran is like losing a brother (yes everybody ships them but this is what would actually happen on screen).
The only problem is that Shran is not human. And the question of 'was it worth it?' really only works if it's a human loss.
Hoshi? Archer convinced her to come on the mission. She has such potential, such a future. They have a good relationship. An arc of her being the one to get out there and conquer her fear only to not make it home. Lots of tragic potential. Archer would certainly feel loss and guilt. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Hoshi doing some great heroic thing at the end.
*me picking up ent characters and examining them* 'should i kill this one? hm. this one?'
I suppose it could be some new character that is introduced in the last couple seasons.

tell me abt kiyomi fellow Canada loather
why hello there 😋 it’s infodumping o’ clock ig ‼️
tws for death, abuse, descriptions of gore, all that
Kiyomi is an OC I’ve had for at least two years. She’s taken on several different forms and her design has changed a whole lot but she’s one of my favorite OCs!!
Her full name is Kiyomi Itō, and she’s this seventeen year old girl from Kyoto, Japan. Her mother was French-Canadian and her father was Japanese. She can speak Japanese, French, and English, and she learned them in the order they are listed.
Okay, the backstory stuff might be a bit confusing because I’m not good with the wording and this is actually the first time I’ve ever written out everything.
Kiyomi has a younger sister named Shoko who was five years younger than her. Kiyomi also had an older half-brother named Akira who is six years older than her. Kiyomi’s mother was named Sakura, and Kiyomi’s father was named Jin.
When she was a kid, her father was both abusive to her, her younger sister, and her mother. He had had an affair that resulted in the birth of Kiyomi’s half-brother, Akira. Akira’s mother’s identity is unknown. Jin, had a deep-seated hatred for his wife and his daughters, and he tried to teach Akira to hate them as well. This didn’t work though, and after deceiving his father, Akira was able to help his sisters run away. Their mother, though, died at Jin’s hand, and Jin was arrested and incarcerated. After running away, Akira, Kiyomi, and Shoko fled across the world to Canada to go live with their maternal aunt and uncle. By that time, Akira was an adult and he could have been able to keep living at the Ito residence, but taking care of Shoko and Kiyomi would be too difficult without assistance.
The move to Canada was when Kiyomi was fourteen. Now, she has graduated from high school and she’s studying for a degree in psychology. She also spends a lot of time with Akira and his wife, Aurelia.
Kiyomi’s interests include, but are not limited to, psychology, toxicology, entomology, and other things. She really enjoys watching children’s television shows, or reading books about bugs, or watching the night sky. She’s fascinated by activity most consider ‘childish’, and she’s very open and curious about new things. She isn’f very informed though, and she doesn’t get social cues very easy.
She’s fascinated by cute things, and she really likes to look nice. She puts a lot of effort into her appearance, and she prefers scene and grunge dress styles. She’s very naturally attractive as well, but she does wear lots of makeup.
Below are some drawings I’ve made of her. She’s really fun to draw. The first drawing is in my style, the second is in the DRV3 style.
She’s also a bit like a punching bag OC, a bit of a Mary-Sue, but I don’t like to think of her as those.
She’s also schizophrenic, and she’s largely ashamed of that fact. She likes to hide it as much as she can, and she never mentions it to anyone that isn’t EXTREMELY close to her. She’s also got a bit of a fear of abandonment, and she fears that it was her fault what happened to her when she was a child.
She started out as a Danganronpa OC, for a Fangan I had been working on, but now she’s her own sort of character for now. I have the information necessary to insert her into any universe, like Death Note, Stranger Things, etc.. Now she’s just fandomless, and I have enough lore about her to give her her own category.
Below is some useless trivia about her.
She’s allergic to a lot of things, she loves strawberries, she has an obsession with MCR, and she hates it when people try to look smart when they really don’t know what they’re talking about.
She’s actually really short, like five feet and four inches tall. It’s mostly because of stunted growth due to childhood malnutrition.
She’s also a hopeless romantic!! She loves romance novels and movies. She’s very open-minded about who she wants to date, though, and she just hopes it’ll be someone nice and sweet.
There’s the end of the useless trivia.
Now, she spends most of her time studying, helping Shoko study, or spending time taking care of Aurelia. Aurelia is a former secretary turned housewife, well, she was, and then she got diagnosed with this really nasty degenerative neurological condition, and sort of just became a shell of who she used to be.. Yk? So Kiyomi also has to help Akira take care of his kids as a result of Aurelia’s absence.
Kiyomi is honestly living her best life, actually. And at a different, later point in her story, she meets her perfect partner!! I just packed her with trauma so bad I had to make up for it by giving her a happy adult life. Her and Aurelia also have like.. a super cute relationship, so there.
Kiyomi is my CHILD, definitely one of my favorite OCs. I have at least 100 OCs, though, so.. I have a lot of favorites, too.
Maybe I should make more posts about Shoko, Akira, or Aurelia sometime?? I dunno.
Thank you if you read this.

This is the face of the world's most infamous serial killer according to an author who has been studying the Jack the Ripper case for close to 30 years. Ripper researcher Russell Edwards has used new facial remodelling technology to create this CGI black and white image of how the killer would have looked at the time. It was after Mr Edwards used DNA evidence from the shawl of one of his victims to "prove" that Jack the Ripper was actually Aaron Kosminski, a Jewish immigrant from Poland who was one of the key suspects at the time of the horrific Whitechapel murders. Now, in a second book on the case, Mr Edwards claims not only to have conclusively identified the Ripper, but also the reason why he mutilated his victims in such a way and how he evaded justice.
…
Kosminski was born on September 11, 1865, making him 22 and 23 at the time of the murders. He grew up in Klodawa, near Warsaw, the youngest of seven children, with his father dying when he was aged just eight. His mother remarried and records suggest he may have been sexually abused by his stepfather. In 1882, six years before the murders, the family fled to the East End of London to escape anti-Semitism that was spreading across eastern Europe after the death of Tsar Alexander II a year earlier. During the murders investigation, the Dr Robert Anderson, head of the London Criminal Investigation Department, had designated Kosminski as key suspect as the killer. Previously confidential police reports, that were published in 1894 as the Macnaghten Memorandum, recorded that detectives believed he had a "great hatred of women, specially of the prostitute class, and had strong homicidal tendencies". Butm even then political correctness made them reluctant to accuse a Jew, due to the potential fallout of antiSemitism.
…
Further research by Mr Edwards has since uncovered how he believes the serial killer evaded justice due to his brother's involvement in freemasonry, and even why the mutilations took place. In February 2023 he received several photographs, including one of 15 men all with handlebar moustaches and dressed the same in suits with an overgarment. They were revealed to be members of the Lodge of Israel, an order of Freemasonry set up for Jewish immigrants in Britain. One of them was Kosminski’s eldest brother, Isaac, who was a wealthy tailor who had moved to London in 1870 and changed his last name to Abrahams. Remarkably, in an ancient Masonic Code, the "Master Mason", called Hiram Abiff, was murdered by three assassins, known as "The Juwes" for refusing to give up his secrets. The fable led to the creation of thee Masonic blood oaths giving descriptions of mutilations, such as cutting throats, removing tongues, and "That my left breast had been torn open and my heart and vitals taken." Mr Edwards is convinced that the Ripper was not a random mutilator, but was carrying out these Masonic instructions. He also believes that the Masonic connections of his brother were probably what prevented his younger sibling's arrest, to avoid the fallout against the Jews. More alarmingly, the Ripper left another clue at the Eddowes murder scene. Nearby scrawled in chalk was the mysterious phrase "The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing." With the word Juwes, spelt in the same Masonic way. Kosminski was never arrested and in 1890, after suffering a suspected schizophrenic breakdown, in which he threatened his sister with a knife, he committed to Colney Hatch lunatic asylum in North London. He died 28 years later in the Leavesden Asylum, Hertfordshire.

my dad is watching a (horrible and exploitative) documentary Six Schizophrenic Brothers, and their oldest son attempted to kill his wife twice & the Dad sprung him out of a psych hold after only a month. Oh, and he loved strangling his mother. Meanwhile the third oldest got arrested for trespassing bc he stopped to take a drink out of somebody’s garden hose and the Dad went out of his way to call up and make sure he got sentenced for 6 months on a phony psych hold, presumably because he was a hippie……. And my Dad is mystified as to why they kept having kids (12!). Like idk man maybe this dirtbag who saw killing women as akin to dinging a car wasn’t particularly interested in allowing his wife any control over her body!

Secret six’s writer… coughs coughs simoneseeeeeeeee
has some nerve against Tetch, a schizophrenic, and Chesire, who’s vietnamese, and Joker but that’s a given but comparing him to an alien colonialist conquerer was wildly out of proportion.
I think Tarantula/Catalina Flores was actually fine, same with Bane actually she really liked Bane (both are hispanic). I think they reveal Flores has a secret sister? The wiki says her brother is a District Attorney. The sister being held hostage might be why she goes into the CIA maybe? Idk much about her backstory tho Edit: well that was depressing so nvm
Ragdoll and his sister was pretty sympathetic (i think) (idk if that was intentional but i sure think it’s tragic) Edit: nevermind that was pretty terrible and sorta distasteful for a **** victim
